Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

I have created nearly 600 articles over 15+ years. I have never seen the number of IP addresses and users with zero or few prior edits flock to a page that is only 3 days old the way they have to Khymani James and to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Khymani James. It took only two hours for the first anon edit to be made to the article.

Many of the users listed above are saying variations of the same thing on the AFD and the article talk page: he is a bad person, so he doesn't deserve to have an article. I don't have any hard evidence, and I think this is the first sockpuppet investigation I have ever instituted so I am not entirely sure what is required or expected. However, I don't want to see an AFD discussion to be swayed by several IP addresses and low edit users who may be one or two people. -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 19:34, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is any socking going on here. The article, created by the filer, is about a controversial figure and is going to draw a great deal of attention at the AfD. The IPs, for example, geolocate to different locations and are therefore unlikely to be the same person (some understandably, given the topic, geolocate to NYC, but others do not). That said, the AfD is very disruptive, generating not only a lot of heat that has nothing to do with notability, but also some pretty blatant WP:BLP violations. I have therefore semi-protected the AfD to prevent further disruption. In my view, this report can be closed without action. However, I'll leave it open for a while longer in case someone wishes to pursue it.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:39, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Insufficient evidence of socking, closing. Bbb23 (talk) 15:19, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
