Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names/Administrators

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Administrators' closing instructions for Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names:

  • Generally, allow for a discussion to run at least 24 hours, unless:
    • The user agrees to change their name (see WP:CHU)
    • The name is clearly a blatant violation of policy
    • The user in question has no recent edits and/or wasn't allowed time to discuss the name concern. Be sure to check the user's deleted contributions to ensure there has been no recent activity
    • There is a clear consensus to allow or disallow the username in question
  • To close a case, place {{subst:rfcn top|'''result of the discussion here'''. ~~~~}} below the header, and {{subst:rfcn bottom}} at the end.
    • If the result is disallow, then block the username and notify the user on their talk page with a link to the discussion.
    • If the result is allow, then notify the user on their talk page with a link to the discussion. You can use the {{subst:UsernameAllowed}} template for this purpose if you wish.
    • If the result is a speedy disallow, meaning the name was a blatant violation that should have simply been reported at WP:UAA, the entry should simply be removed from the page and not archived.
  • Leave the closed case on WP:RFCN for a few days so users may see the results, with the exception of blatant violations that have already been blocked.
  • When removing the case from WP:RFCN, list it on the archive pages according to the instructions given there.

Non-admins may assist in cleanup and maintenance of this page by closing cases which have already been addressed (such as cases where the user is already blocked via another venue) or archiving old, closed discussions.

  • To close a case, place {{subst:rfcn top|'''result of the discussion here''' {{nac}}. ~~~~}} below the header, and {{subst:rfcn bottom}} at the end.
    • If appropriate, notify the user on their talk page with a link to the discussion.
