Probably a non-free file (tagged as PD-Iraq but this could not possibly be the case because it was not published more than 50 years ago). Even if this file was converted to non-free, it would likely fail WP:NFCC#1 (replaceable) and WP:NFCC#8 (no critical commentary) FASTILY 08:00, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:NFCC#8. A photo like this should normally only be used in an article about the person, not in an article about a radio station. Also, there's no source. Stefan2 (talk) 18:46, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Dowling began a six-year effort to license and fund an educational television station for Florida's First Coast." I think it's fair to say that the radio station's founder is a person of significant importance to the radio station, given the amount of work he put in to get the radio station in the first place. Additionally, it doesn't violate BLP because he's dead. Banaticus (talk) 23:05, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But since it's not an article about him personally, the picture should not be there. You could easily understand what the radio station is about without seeing a picture of its founder. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:16, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Stefan, I have to respectfully disagree with you. Just as an example, the article for CBS features a history section with a photo of William S. Paley, the network's first president. Should his photo be removed as well? No. He is a significant part of CBS's story. You seem to have a very deep knowledge of the site, so you likely know that this sort of thing is not uncommon. By your logic, no page for an organization should feature a picture of its founder because you never need to see the person responsible to understand what the organization is. A Wikipedia where each page can only contain photos of the person, place or thing being described by that page is a less rich Wikipedia. Bstephenson (talk) 13:19, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any non-free photos in the CBS article, so I can't see why you're comparing this to that article. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:18, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Should I take this to mean you'll stop contesting the use of a picture of Dr. Dowling on grounds of WP:NFCC#8 so long as it's free? By your rationale, the photo from the CBS page also violates WP:NFCC#8. Bstephenson (talk) 13:17, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete There is no rationale provided for the use of non-free image of the radio station's founder in an article about the radio station. The image fails WP:NFCC#8 because there is no commentary about the image thereby doing nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the radio station and its exclusion is not detrimental to the understanding of the radio station. unused locally/already on Commons, Wikipedia is not a web-host, no reason to retain local copy FASTILY 22:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep This file was copied on to Commons without my knowledge. It has a {{keep local}} template because I choose not to have to keep a watchlist of images in which I have an interest beyond the one I have on English Wikipedia. Commons has a track record of copying my work from the English Wikipedia; then deleting the copy here; and finally deleting the image from Commons without informing me. I do not intend to repeat that unfortunate experience, and there is no reason why I should have to.
I have no problem with having a copy on Commons, but I object to removal of the local copy here that I uploaded. This is another back-door attempt to subvert editors' wishes in the form of bypassing {{Keep local}}, which has shown in three deletion attempts (see Template talk:Keep local) that consensus is in favour of respecting editors' wishes. --RexxS (talk) 00:30, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On Commons, there's virtually always a notification to the original uploader when a file is nominated for deletion. You decided to opt out from that notification by delegating the uploading of the file to someone else so that you wouldn't be the original uploader on Commons. Your problem if you can't easily opt in to notifications after you decide to out out from them. --Stefan2 (talk) 20:15, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's a complete falsehood. There often is no notification to the original author. I never opted out of any notification on Commons, nor have I ever delegated the uploading of any my files to Commons. You and your ilk simply come along and move files created by other editors from Wikipedia to Commons without any notification whatsoever. See File:Suba Divers Office.jpg for an example. It was created by me on 25 October 2008 and in use on my user page when it was moved to Commons (renamed c:File:Surreal Scuba Divers office.jpg) and deleted from English Wikipedia on 30 October 2011. On Commons it was deleted on 11 October 2015, following a deletion discussion that I was never informed of. As usual with your meddling, the first thing an editor here knows about your shenanigans was that the image disappears from where it was in use. So you know where you can stick your BS about "virtually always a notification", because we all know it's simply not true. --RexxS (talk) 12:54, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, per Template talk:Keep local. At the same time, if uploaders wish to keep their file only on Wikipedia, as having little likelihood of usefulness elsewhere, I recommend using {{Esoteric file}}. Bishonen | talk 09:45, 24 October 2017 (UTC).[reply]
  • Per WP:NOTHOST, we do not keep files on Wikipedia only for the purpose of hosting the file. Do we have any other reasons for hosting the file? --Stefan2 (talk) 20:15, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Per WP:NOTHOST: "Please upload only files that are used (or will be used) in encyclopedia articles or project pages." or did you miss that bit? Files on Commons are deleted without informing the original uploader. We do keep files on Wikipedia for the purpose of hosting the file because it can be monitored on the enwp watchlist of the uploader, and {{keeplocal}} is an indication of that. "Already on Commons" is not a reason for deletion of any encyclopedically useful file carrying that template, and we are not short of filespace. Do you have difficulty in understanding "The uploader or another editor requests that a local copy of this file be kept."? or are you trying to do yet another end-run around the consensus that "keep local" has established? --RexxS (talk) 23:47, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep This file is used on enwp and so the terms of WP:NOTWEBHOST do not apply. Thincat (talk) 22:02, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free file not critical to understanding of the article. – Train2104 (t • c) 23:54, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Er... non-free? It is text only.
I know; it has a non-free license tag, but really, it is colored text in a monospace font, with no artistic embellishment, no coherent units of meaning. Unless I am mistaken letters alone are not copyright protected in the United States.
Why not put a {{PD-text}} on it?
