TFL notification

Hi, Josh. I'm just posting to let you know that List of awards and honours received by Angela Merkel – a list that you have been heavily involved with – has been chosen to appear on the Main Page as Today's featured list for November 6. The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 01:47, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that due to a TFL request for the original date, I've moved the appearance back two weeks to the next available date, November 20. Giants2008 (Talk) 21:45, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PRODs

Hey, Josh,

I've noticed that lately you've been giving some attention to reviewing PRODs as they inch towards their deletion time. A comment though, typically, as you might notice with AFDs, the admin deleting an article in the main space of the project removes red links that might appear after the article deletion by unlinking mentions of that article subject. What I do with PRODS is delete them by using Twinkle, selecting the CSD option and the PROD deletion rationale appears in a field in the text box. So, it looks like you are doing a speedy deletion but in the deletion rationale, it notes that this is a proposed deletion and supplies whatever deletion rationale was used by the article/file tagger. You might handle them this way already. But after deletion, when the article and any redirects are deleted, there is an option to undo any links. You can click on this link in the text box or, if you forget to, while you are still on the deleted page, you can use the Twinkle menu and select Unlink to undo them.

I should add that there are a few editors who disagree with unlinking deleted articles. But, when I started handling PRODs, this was what I was told to do and I think it's also done by other admins who patrol PRODs like Explicit so I just thought I'd pass along the advice. You are starting off great as a new administrator and I just wanted to thank you for helping out with so many different areas of page deletion. Have a great weekend! Liz Read! Talk! 22:45, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Liz, I'm sorry for the slow response, I've been away on vacation. Thank you for the feedback, I'll absolutely keep it in mind moving forward. Hey man im josh (talk) 22:51, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Query

Hello Josh, I once had my perms removed here because I wanted to gain more experience in WP:AfD and WP:AfC, the latter which I was laser focused on, lately I have been going through (mostly) closed AfD discussions and participating in few, to learn more about WP:N and obviously WP:RS. I have created multiple articles since the removal of my permissions and I'm happy to say I had no problems in doing so (as I'm also autoreviewed). I was wondering if you could check if I'm eligible for WP:NPR perm or if it's still early, I'm ready to tackle the NPP backlog Thank you. dxneo (talk) 16:27, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Problem solved. dxneo (talk) 22:57, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not getting back to you @Dxneo, I've been away for a week on vacation. Glad to hear the problem has been solved. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:57, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man

Good day, hope you are doing well. Thank you so much for your great admin work and for granting me pending changes reviewer, I really appreciate it, as I have been able to start contributing more and helping the encyclopedia by reviewing changes that are pending. But, there isn't too much backlog on there as I would love to contribute more. Can I be granted the patroller right? I am already autopatrolled too. I know the policy says 90 days old account, which my account isn't up to currently (but close to), I would love to contribute more on administrative backlogs by patrolling new pages. I usually have special:NewPagesFeed as an open tab (lol, so that I can always get there faster). You can also check my draftification log at User:Vanderwaalforces/Draftify log. Would love to hear from you. Many thanks again! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 01:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Vanderwaalforces. I've been away for a bit over a week and I have quite a bit of catching up to do, both IRL and on Wikipedia. I encourage you to apply at WP:PERM/NPR, as I don't think I have the time to evaluate whether I should give you the perm or not. For future reference, permissions are best requested at WP:PERM anyways. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:19, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much:) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:33, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS. I very much appreciate your interest in contributing and I wish you the best of luck on your request @Vanderwaalforces. I always encourage new reviewers to start in their area of expertise / niche of interest by checking out WP:NPPSORT. The process can seem daunting at first, so it's best to start somewhere where you're already comfortable. We also have a Discord server if that's your thing where you can get some help along the way or ask for a second opinion. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:53, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh Thank you so much for your kind words, I will go ahead and request at the WP:PERM as soon as possible, so that I can assist in the AfC November drive if possible. Also, I will have your advice in mind. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 13:57, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @ClydeFranklin, I am aware. Thank you for your concern though. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:57, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Meant to reply to this, but I took care of it shortly after this reply as part of my catching up on things process. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:53, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Hey man im josh:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2800 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Josh, thanks for reviewing the Western tulku page. I was wondering if you could take a look here at the AfD since you are a (newly-appointed!) admin and maybe give your thoughts. I want to take a break from creating the page but I'm afraid to leave it, lest I come back to it merged into Tulku and censored (perhaps this is paranoid.) Or, with your approval, perhaps move it into Draft:Western tulku for me (I'm likewise afraid to do it myself.) MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE IS REAL EMO!(talk or whatever) 13:28, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just so that you're aware @Mychemicalromanceisrealemo, I marked the page as reviewed as a matter of procedure. Pages sent to AfD are meant to be marked as reviewed as they are undergoing a community review. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:17, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rule? Not sure.

Hi Josh, Hope you're having a good start to the week. Not quite sure about this, if it's an unwritten law here or not. The edit you reverted for Tom Brady, that user is adding first team All-Pro to several players with (PFWA, SN etc). Is it AP only? Because some have the second team there already for AP, no first team at all, that's what raised the flag. I can't revert them if there's nothing there to go on. I'll go with whatever you say. Thanks in advance, John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:25, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Bringingthewood. I've typically only added All-Pro to the infobox when it's been awarded by the Associated Press, as they're, at the moment, the de facto authority based on the NFL Honors. The issue from past discussions has been who is the "de facto" awarder and why are some awarders more recognized / valued than others? WP:NFLINFOBOX specifically mentions that league MVPs selected by the AP, NEA, PFWA, UPI, and the Joe. F. Carr Trophy are all relevant to include in the infobox. However, it does not make a distinction for All-Pros. This might be a discussion that should take place at WT:NFL. I think you should give it a shot and ask the question there. There are some long time editors who were involved in making these guidelines who should be able to chime in. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:23, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, Josh. I agree with the AP, and I will send a message out there. You see, I said I would agree, lol. Speak with you soon and hope all is going well. John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I just had a look and just like to point out, I said to redirect to Zarzis and not the football club, someone said something else, and two users didn't clarify. But said as above directly under my direction. So, I don't think you set the right target. You might want to review the AfD again and fix appropriately regards. Govvy (talk) 08:32, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Govvy. I've re-read the AfD and I see where the misunderstanding came from. I've updated the AfD to note that the page is now redirected to Zarzis instead of ES Zarzis. I don't think re-opening the discussion is necessary at this time. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:26, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, much appreciated, regards Govvy (talk) 17:54, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

👾

In respect to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 October 21#👾, I am looking for advice. Point is that 👾 is now linking to a disambiguation page. According to Templates with disambiguation links, that is a problem that needs to be solved. But I fail to solve the problems in Template:Unicode chart single emojis and Template:Unicode chart Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs. Can you advice me how to solve that? The Banner talk 00:01, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @The Banner, it looks like there's quite a few disambiguation links in those templates. While it's generally best practice not to have disambiguation pages in templates, I think that, in some cases, there are going to be exceptions to the best practice. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:47, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A trick possible is using a link "subject (disambiguation)|subject" (a redirect to the disambiguation page) what fools the maintenance bots into believing this is not a disambiguation page (don't ask me why). But I could not not even find the symbol. The Banner talk 15:11, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Dear Hey man im josh , Hello, Can you semi protect my Usertalkpage for indef; as per my request ; I know it is not necessary, but I'm college students and I edit on wikipedia time to time, and revert their nonconstructive edits of ip editors and other editors, I have no interested to reply some ip editor, we are very frustrated about that, please understand my probelm, neither I'm going to here. @Aviram7: I don't typically edit on weekends, so when I start up on Monday there's usually a lot of catching up to do. I'm in the process of doing so now. It does not appear that you have been receiving severe vandalism or abuse on your talk page and, as such, applying a protection would not be appropriate. We also do not pre-emptively protect pages. As someone who did quite a lot of anti-vandalism, I'd say you should just keep reporting the vandals. If they come to your talk page and out themselves as the disruptive folk they are, all the better, because then you can report them to AIV. With that said, in the future, if you are receiving a lot of vandalism on your talk page, you should make a request at WP:RPPI. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:36, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Hey man im josh, Thanks for your reply but We remove nonconsecutive edits on wikipedia and also try to clean wikipedia. When I revert any ip user edits, they are coming on Usertalkpage resort to vandalism and personal attacks and I don't know how to feel safe from personal attackers who directly attack on wikipedians but I'm feel well to your reply. Thanks for your understanding. :) ~~ αvírαm|(tαlk) 14:49, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aviram7: I believe you meant nonconstructive instead of nonconsecutive? Never the less, I am absolutely well aware that nonconstructive edits are removed. Looking through your talk page history, I'm not finding anything recent in terms of these vandalism and personal attacks that you're referring to. Every editor has a right to question why their content was removed or why their edit was reverted and I'm not seeing anything recent on your talk page in terms of harassment. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:56, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Hey man im josh, Yep! you're right I mean to say (nonconstructive) and I support your thought every editors have right to ask to why their edit has been reverted, I understand my Usertalkpage has no need to protect. :) ~~ αvírαm|(tαlk) 15:08, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About your closure of emoji RfDs

Hey Hey man im josh [sic], I wanted to check in with you about your closures of the 🧑‍🦳, 👾, and 🫥 RfDs. The RfC to determine community consensus on the topic is still open, and so I was wondering why you decided to close these (and retarget all three) with the possibility that your decisions might be reversed in the forseeable future. Let me know what you think! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:37, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@TechnoSquirrel69: Please note this reply by Firefangledfeathers. We aren't waiting on the result of an RfC at this point in time, so it felt best to close these discussions to get them out of the way. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:25, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

mistakes what you did

Hey man what you did to the page of Libya–Vietnam relations it’s a very big mistake because you didn’t provide logical evidence for that that deleting so can you correct your mistake or you’ll have to blocked Lamise 2023 (talk) 08:41, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) Hi! The article wasn't deleted, instead, it was draftified and moved to Draft:Libya–Vietnam relations where you can improve it further. The 2 sources aren't quite enough to establish notability of the subject. Also, many sections are unsourced, and thus can't be published per the verifiability guideline.
Asking a question normally usually sounds a lot nicer rather than threatening to get blocked. :) NotAGenious (talk) 15:51, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not threatning to have me blocked @Lamise 2023. The only part that I had in that article is deleting the redirect that was left behind from someone moving the page. The redirect left behind from the page was a cross-namespace redirect (WP:CSD R2), in this case a redirect from main space to draft space, and was deleted. The content of the page was unaffected by the redirect that was deleted. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:52, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article info

Hello Josh. Please, put this on the back burner, I know you're busy. My question is about how in the future to make the T. J. Watt page a good article. Is this an accolade or just a presentation deal? Like I mentioned earlier, my computer is out of date, no edit preview etc. etc. Just wondering if this is something I can work on for let's say a year or so to make it a good article. I hunt, so I can wait days on end for something good to happen, lol. Since 2017, I live and die with this guy for as long as he plays, and I would hope that after he retires, maybe something would be substantial on his page. If you say it's a dead issue ... not a problem. Just wanted to ask. Thank you. John Bringingthewood (talk) 02:55, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Bringingthewood. I'm glad to hear you're interested in helping to get content promoted! I think you'd be best asking @BeanieFan11 about this. Right above this post you'll actually notice that Beanie won the recent WikiCup competition and created 75 GAs in the process. Most of those, if not all, were actually related to football and the NFL. I myself have worked on featured content, but only lists, and have never actually helped to promote an article to GA, so I'm unfortunately not the best person to be able to guide you through this. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:48, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth though, I don't think it's a 'dead issue', and I think it's very much possible. With all the time you're probably spending in a tree stand, I'm sure you'll have time to chip away it. Be aware though, it can be a bit more difficult to get active players promoted, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a shot! Hey man im josh (talk) 12:50, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Philipnelson99, I'm sorry I wasn't able to get back to you on this last night. Reviewing the logs, I'm glad to see that the issue you emailed me about was handled within 15 minutes of your email by someone else. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:38, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh Thanks! I didn't realize it was handled so quickly. I just didn't want it to go under the radar! Philipnelson99 (talk) 13:58, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed conversion of redirect into disambiguation of Indian Empire

Hello Josh, the long-standing page Indian Empire has since long redirected to the article British Raj, but recently Celia Homeford created a new page Indian Empire (disambiguation) and redirected Indian Empire to her own new page. After that you moved her page Indian Empire (disambiguation) to Indian Empire. All this happened without an Rfd or talk discussion. I redirected it back to the article. Could you please revert your move too to restore the page's edit history and also protect it against further instances as the one above? PadFoot2008 (talk) 11:39, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are wrong and your above statement about me is false. See Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 October 26#Indian Empire. Celia Homeford (talk) 11:41, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry, Celia. I should've checked the Rfd myself before coming here like a fool. I haven't been editing a lot recently except today. I'm very sorry. PadFoot2008 (talk) 11:49, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This misunderstanding is entirely my fault @PadFoot2008. When I moved Indian Empire from Indian Empire (disambiguation) I absolutely should have included the RfD link as part of the move summary. I made a mistake and I'm glad you've brought this to my attention so that I can worker harder to not make it again. You could have checked the RfD, and I should have moved the page with an edit summary, a small trouting for both of us! trout trout trout
Thank you @Celia Homeford for pointing to the RfD as an explanation. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:04, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations, Hey man im josh! The list you nominated, List of National Football League annual scoring leaders, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, PresN (talk) via FACBot (talk) 12:25, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your time and consideration. CAJaganaddamRJY (talk) 02:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@CAJaganaddamRJY: You keep saying we. Just to be clear, are you sharing your account?
I've also not been involved with that article, so this message feels quite out of the blue to me. It sounds like you would be better off requesting that the article be moved to draft space in the AfD discussion if the outcome it trending towards delete. Hey man im josh (talk) 03:24, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Mr.Josh,
"We" a respectable term (plural) "Collectively" is a dignified alternative to the singular term "I." CAJaganaddamRJY (talk) 03:35, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding recent edit to Matthew Stafford

You didn't add a source alongside a revert that you made on the article even though in the edit summary you said you made the revert due to the previous edit being unsourced. What sources did you find that agree he is 6 feet 3 inches instead of 6 feet 2 inches? Equalwidth (C) 06:53, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Equalwidth: See the NFL and Pro-football-reference pages that are at the bottom of the infobox. These are what we typically use for this info. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:02, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the two revisions with contributions by IMRiom23 are copyvio from here, could you revel them? AryKun (talk) 07:15, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AryKun: Sorry for the delay, I don't typically edit on weekends and had a busy Friday. For future reference, it's best practice to add the {{copyvio-revdel}} template a page when requesting a revdel. That way someone can handle the request more quickly. With that said, I've taken care of it. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:56, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional city

Hello. I notice you have removed links to fictional city following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fictional city. As you can see, the link has been recreated as a redirect to Fictional location (as it should have been). Can you revert your link removals? If you'd rather have me do so, I can do that, but I didn't want to inundate you with revert notifications without giving you a heads-up. Thanks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 04:53, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh I sure do wish that was suggested in the AfD. By all means, feel free to revert or simply re-add the wikilink where appropriate @InfiniteNexus. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll get to it. InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:51, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just an FYI, I found an even better target: List of fictional settlements. It was right there in {{Fiction navbox}}, no idea why it was never brought up in the AfD. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:15, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why either, but I'm glad you've found multiple useful targets and restored the wikilinks where appropriate. In hindsight I feel silly for not looking for a redirect target given how many places it was linked. Yet another learning experience for me and something to think about when closing AfDs. Requesting autopatrol listing

Hi. I have submitted my request on Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list. Would you please review it? --Mann Mann (talk) 05:48, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Mann Mann. When submitting an application or request it's best to be patient and wait for somebody to be by at their earliest convenience. So, with that said, myself or someone else will be by to process requests at their earliest convenience. Thank you for submitting a request! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:15, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. A question: I saw your message. If I'm already in the list since March 2022, then why DannyS712 bot III still patrols/reviews my new redirects? I'm confused. --Mann Mann (talk) 18:20, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mann Mann: The bot is meant to automatically patrol/review new redirects created by people who are on the list. The fact that you're receiving notifications about this means that it's working properly. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:25, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh... I got it. Thanks again. Regards. --Mann Mann (talk) 18:29, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tags on Jill Ovens

I have reverted your removal of the tags from the article talk page. These were primarily in response to from the subject of the article. The tags were not placed there without good reason. PicturePerfect666 (talk) 22:28, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@PicturePerfect666: It's overkill and unnecessary. Additionally, there's no archives to search but you added the options to search them. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I put the arcihve back and if I did I certainly didn't mean to. PicturePerfect666 (talk) 03:54, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

revert of 287 (Number)

287 (Number) is the only number page with an uppercase N. Clearly when user:ReyP02 requested its creation he made a typo when capitalizing Number. All his other request as spelled with a lowercase 'n'. Can you explain your revert? That page with a redirect has no valid reason to exist. Can you make a case to show otherwise? Dhrm77 (talk) 16:12, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Dhrm77: You tagged the page as {{db-error}} and I declined the CSD because but it's not clear that the page was created in error. Additionally, there doesn't initially appear to be anything obviously wrong with keeping the redirect and it's not the only redirect that exists with a capitalization (see 285 (Number)). If you feel strongly about this then you should nominated this redirect at WP:RfD, because I do not view this as uncontroversial maintenance. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:20, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing to 285 (Number). I don't know how you found this page, but that's clearly another one that doesn't need to exist. Unless you want to argue that every number page (some 400 of them) need an additional article with a capitalized N and a redirect to the proper page? I'm not shooting for "uncontroversial maintenance", I'm shooting for consistency. Dhrm77 (talk) 16:36, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhrm77: Redirects based on alternative capitalizations are extremely common and I personally have no issue with the page titles "xxx (Number)" redirecting to "xxx (number)". For what it's worth, for the numbers 1-500, there was only 2 addition redirects that existed with this formatting (13 (Number) & 22 (Number)). I'm not sure I see a reason that these would be deleted if sent to RfD, so if you feel strongly and you want to create the additional redirects, I don't really see a reason not to. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point. But I also like consistency. So either all pages have a redirect or none. Now, I understand that in some cases, for pages other than number pages, one might capitalize a word or not, and we might want a redirect to the other page. But in this case. If someone search for any number xx in the search box, one of the earliest option to choose from is "xx (number)", so one can just click on that. Another way to get to a number page is from some other number page (which always uses the lower case 'n') or some math page, which also point to the proper page. These pages 285 & 287) have also recently been created so there is no long history from some other website to be worried about. I really don't see a reason to keep the pages with a capital 'N'. BTW, I already submitted requests on Wikipedia:Rfd for these 2 pages. Dhrm77 (talk) 17:11, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhrm77: That's fine that you want consistency, I just don't personally see how deleting these redirects improves the encyclopedia in any way (redirects are WP:CHEAP). Never the less, that's a conversation to be had at the relevant deletion discussions. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

NFL nicknames

Hey Josh! I noticed your removal of all the unsourced entries at List of NFL nicknames - I've heard of probably two-thirds of those nicknames and could probably source a decent chunk of them - would you be alright if I were to, at some point in the near future, revert your removal of the unsourced entries, source as many as I can, and then re-remove the unsourceable ones? (due to it being too time-consuming to do it all manually) Thanks. Oh, and congrats on your umpteenth FL! BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:18, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BeanieFan11: Of course! I trust you to do so and wouldn't revert your revert of me. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:29, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Asian Games redirects

Hi, I noticed you redirects some Asian Games redlinks (in sports of wrestling, Sailing and athletics) like this Athletics at the 1951 Asian Games – Men's 10,000 metres to the main article. since you are also an admin may I ask why you did that? I mean what does this add to wikipedia? they are mostly only linked to the main page. I'm asking because I want to know if there is a policy here to not having redlinks at all? even in this case I think it's better to unlink them rather than useless redirects. you may say it doesn't hurt but I think it does. because when they are redlinks people like me will always know that article doesn't exist and should be created (if the info is available someday, because unfortunately some old results are missing) for example look at this template, 1951 and 1954 links are not red but they are not created either. I'm not fluent in English but I hope I make my point clear. Thanks Sports2021 (talk) 00:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sports2021: There is not a policy or consensus that I've seen that says it's inappropriate to redirect an event to a more general page. Personally I don't believe the redirects are useless because if someone is looking for that event information then they'll find a relevant summary of the event at the target. I feel confident in saying that there's easily tens of thousands of these types of redirect, if not hundreds of thousands, and I think they serve a purpose. If you have a set of pages that you're interested in working on where you'd like yourself to be page creator then I'd be more than happy to G6 delete them for you. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:35, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See also Template:R from subtopic, it's a redirect category specifically made for situations like this. Hey man im josh (talk) 00:37, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your time. I didn't say that's against the rules. I was actually asking if having redlinks (and not redirecting them) is against rule. I think it's fair to say that everybody who looks for Athletics at the 1951 Asian Games – Men's 10,000 metres will automatically check Athletics at the 1951 Asian Games.
Yes I know there are tons of those redirects and to be honest I was always disagreed with them, but they are mostly about future events, those pages will be created sooner or later. but when you do it for past events ... hmmm. unfortunately there is a chance they always remain a redirect. I absolutely don't care to be the page creator. I like them to remain redlinks mostly because that always reminds me and other wiki users that those pages should be created. let me tell you this way, I checked this page Sailing at the Asian Games and when I saw all previous games links are blue I got happy that someone had enough info to create them but then I realized they are just redirects. so I hope you accept this from me and delete them all. I hope I can create those pages someday soon though. Sports2021 (talk) 00:55, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair to disagree. How do you feel about pages in categories? When redirects are listed in categories they're listed in italics, which would make it obvious that the event title is currently a redirect. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:12, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes they are shown in italic which is at least better and helps if I have to go that rout to see which pages are not really created. but again my main point is about pages like this
Speaking of sailing, for example this page is only linked to this and this. nobody is going to click on that redirect from anywhere else and whoever does it won't like it when is redirected to the same page he was already reading. it will be useless for him. or check this what's the point of redirecting a page to the only page linked to it. that's why I called it useless. again I'm not fluent in English so I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear but I hope you get my point. Sports2021 (talk) 01:31, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, you just stopped answering my messages. should I consider it as a "no"? I don't think I was asking too much. Sports2021 (talk) 23:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are not being ignored. I'm working on something to address the issue. As mentioned, if you'd like to work on the pages I'll go ahead and G7 them myself. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:26, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
as I said before I don't want them to get deleted just to create them myself! who cares who is the page creator, (I don't care at least) I explained before why I think it's a bad idea, I want them to be deleted simply because I think those pages should stay red link if they are not created yet. now I noticed you did that to several other pages in other sports like Table tennis, Tennis, Soft tennis and Bowling too! now that's too much, I think I'm going to unlink them. it doesn't make sense to have a page like this where all "details" links are redirected back to the same page! Sports2021 (talk) 22:26, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sports2021: I've actually asked someone to help me out with a script to semi automate the process. I believe the redirects are useful, but I also agree that circular redirects can be misleading. The goal of my request to them is to search for the specific template for summaries and check whether it is a redirect or not, and if so, comment out the summary. Hey man im josh (talk) 23:34, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Page

Hello , there was a quick deletion of the page of an entrepreneur in Sri Lanka. May I know ask why Johnmark2384 (talk) 16:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnmark2384: I can't tell you unless I know what page you're talking about. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:30, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Draft:Ravindu Nawanjana page was deleted by you about a few minutes ago.Was it because of less information or less edits made or some other reason ? Johnmark2384 (talk) 16:42, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnmark2384: Based on the page logs, it looks like I deleted a page at that title on September 27th. Looking back at it, it was deleted as unambiguously advertising or promotion, in part because it was created by an account that was named after the company he works for. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:49, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes , I realised there had been a page made by his own company as to page logs about 2 months . Is it possible to get it undeleted as I'm not related to his organisation and would like to make a page for him as his work in Sri Lanka related to the environment is currently growing and many references are made by media related to him. Johnmark2384 (talk) 17:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnmark2384: Pages deleted as promotional are not typically restored. Additionally, the draft that you've created at Draft:Ravindu Nawanjana already contains the information that was included on the deleted draft (it was a very small draft when deleted). Hey man im josh (talk) 17:09, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any possibility of restoring the page if more data is added to Draft:Ravindu Nawanjana in the coming future ? Any if not , what would be your guidance in creating a page for the said entrepreneur in Draft:Ravindu Nawanjana Johnmark2384 (talk) 17:18, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnmark2384: There's no benefit to restoring the deleted content. What I think you're asking though is about moving the draft to the main space (as in when the draft is completed). For that I'd recommend reading through WP:Articles for creation. A couple other useful links for you are Help:Your first article and Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:25, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This article was merged before becoming a redirect and should have been tagged {{R from merge}}. It needs to be undeleted to preserve attribution. Srnec (talk) 20:52, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Srnec: The page history now exists at Elegiac Comedy. This honours the result of the RfD, which viewed the redirect as problematic, while also maintaining attribution. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RevDel

Picked you quasi-randomly from Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests. I think these two diffs should be suppressed as they appear to make defamatory claims about a random Italian person presumably still living: [1][2]. Mostly it's ridiculous nonsense, but the claims to have a mental age of only 6, and a few other bits, are probably suppressable.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  23:13, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @SMcCandlish, I've taken care of it. PS. It's fine to leave requests like this on my talk page, but if you don't want to get more views on those revisions then sending an email is also fine :) Hey man im josh (talk) 13:11, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, if you do go that route, which no pressure of course, just drop me a you've got mail notification on my talk page and I'll respond in general terms to that post or to the email directly. I also understand that leaving the request here gives an opportunity for other admins to see it and respond before I do, so there is that advantage to it. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:12, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okey dokey. I don't come across too much of this sort of thing, and it's its bad enough I go the oversight route.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  19:51, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft question

I was told I needed to provide 2-3 sources which were reliable and independent of the subject to demonstrate notability. I have done so, what is the issue? this is about https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Matti_Charlton ==

Thank you for your time. 216.209.142.143 (talk) 21:22, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a lot of time right now and I don't typically edit much on the weekends, so you might be better off asking this at WP:AFCHELP. Additionally, you'd be best to ask the person who most recently declined your submission, @WikiOriginal-9. The version that I declined back in October is drastically different and I don't have the time to look over this version of the page right now. Hutchinson

Hi Josh. As always, hope all is well. It takes a few edits for me not being able to view before submitting. But I added a second NFC Player of the Week for Aidan Hutchinson, using the reference from the article. It now shows the same reference listed under two different numbers. Ref#'s 23 and 26. Should one be removed? I really didn't want to say in the edit summary that it's referenced already in the article. Hope I didn't make your eyes bleed! - Regards, John Bringingthewood (talk) 23:08, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HA! Looks like I missed a congrats for the annual scoring leaders. BIG CONGRATULATIONS! That'll teach me not to spy on people. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:30, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Bringingthewood. Yessir! One more to do the list with several others in the pipeline.
As for the Hutch ref, I can check it out in the morning. Hey man im josh (talk) 01:50, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic work! At least if I check in on your page, I might actually learn something. Believe me, it wasn't for you to have to do extra work. I thought it might be a rule to not add the same reference twice etc. etc. No big deal. Enjoy your Thanksgiving if we don't catch up by then. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:57, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bringingthewood: No no, you can absolutely reuse references, but that usually involves naming the reference so that you can just use the name in the second instance where you would use the full reference. I'll give you an example tomorrow when I'm on my PC. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:01, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Bringingthewood. To re-use a reference, you would add a name to the ref portion of the reference, as shown in this diff on Aidan Hutchinson, and then replace the second usage of that citation as I did in the dif. So instead of having the full long citation, you're just pointing to that name that was defined elsewhere in the article. I use named references quite often so re-use refs and I think WP:REFNAME is a helpful wikilink for you in this case. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:23, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And now my eyes bleed, lol. But then again, I'm not the brightest bulb. Thank you for that change ... and they say Helen Keller was in the Miracle Worker! HA!!! Stay well, my friend! John Bringingthewood (talk) 22:33, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

Looks like a could have just G4'd the top-ten charting song lists. The Mainstream Top 40/Pop Airplay ones were deleted a few years back in this discussion. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:45, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, I wasn't aware of that AfD discussion, sorry. Just figured there was a chance they were notable and were worth discussing, but apparently it already happened :P Hey man im josh (talk) 01:48, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2011 NFL Draft, NOTable undrafted players

Hello, sorry for bothering you.

The IP 72.133.196.210 keeps adding players who did not have notable careers to the "Notable undrafted players" section, I don't know if there is a way to block their edits, since it is quite annoying for me to have to remove those players every time it adds them.

It's been adding to all draft pages, not only in 2011. It adds literally every player, sometimes they don't even have official stats =/

P.S. Just to clarify I've left it messages on its talk page and in the edit summary, and yet it continues to add these players, I am sick of removing them repeatedly. Sergio Skol (talk) 06:10, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sergio Skol: Wasn't this discussed at WT:NFL recently? I believe the issue was that there wasn't consensus as to what makes a player notable enough for inclusion on the list. Though I do agree with you that not every player who makes a roster should be included on the list. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:54, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Special drafts

Hey, Josh,

I just discovered that we have hundreds of drafts passing through the G13 soon lists that should not be deleted. Take, for example, Draft:William Kramer (athlete). It was draftified as part of this Village Pump decision but it was determined that these drafts on Olympic athletes should sit for at least 5 years before being eligible for G13 status. Unfortunately, they were not omitted from the SDZeroBot reports until a day or two ago so the lists from the next four days include these drafts on them even though they should not be deleted. But they do have a tag on the draft page that will let you know which ones should have a delayed deletion and they will also be categorized in Category:All drafts subject to special procedures.

I only became aware of this yesterday and I'm not sure how much you work you do in the G13 area these days but I just thought I'd give you a head's up. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 21:40, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz thank you! I'll keep an eye out for this. Hey man im josh (talk) 02:15, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
