So Selegiline is supposed to be taken consistently since it's a build up effect. Selegiline raises dopamine. I'm wondering if taking it for months/long term will have undesired effects on dopamine/neurotransmitters, since anything that messes with brain chemistry is risky. If dosage matters, say 3mg every day.
I've been depressed my entire life. Tried tons of anti-depressants. Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Pristiq. Noticed not an ounce of difference on them-no effect. So SSRI's, SNRI's don't seem to work. Is there another line of defense, sort to speak, psychiatrists in the US can prescribe if the typical anti-depressants don't work? Do they prescribe Selegiline typically? I'd just go ahead and order some from a well known vendor here but I've read it can create a false positive for methamphetamine on a drug test. That's an issue for me as I do get randomly drug tested at my job occasionally. If I just go and schedule an appointment at my psychiatrist and ask about Selegiline, what are my chances at getting a prescription you think? I've read they can prescribe the transdermal patches which bypass the digestive system entirely, meaning no diet modifications needed.
Hey. Sorry if this was asked before. I looked at older threads and the links were not working anymore.
My issue is that selegiline is not prescribed in my country, thus I want to order. I've seen it's not expensive, 35eur for 15-30 pills.
If anyone of you are on selegiline, could you tell where did you buy it? Was is prescription or online? does it work for depression?>
I've been on 5mg a day for about a week now and I haven't really noticed anything different. If anything I'm almost a bit more moody which I hear is the opposite of what should happen. I have tried taking it both sublingually and orally but didn't really notice anything different with either method. I know it takes a while to reach its full effects but I would think by a week I should be feeling it. I ordered it from a source that rhymes with "blue drain". Any ideas what could be happening?
If you have, I'm curious to know:
For how long you used it
At what dosage
What benefits you saw/see
If you've developed any tolerance
Any recurring negatives or concerns
Thanks so much!
I keep hearing great things about selegiline and because it's only a MAO-B inhibitor at low doses, no diet restrictions are required. It's been reported to increase libido, motivation, improve mood and concentration. It's also neuroprotective and boosts the immune system.
I want to take selegiline for my depression.
I've tried Wellbutrin(Bupropion) in the past and it destroyed my short-term memory so I stopped taking it. Wellbutrin helped increase my libido, improved my concentration and my ability to learn, but because of the horrible short-term memory loss, I decided to stop taking it.
Also, does anybody know if selegiline is available in Canada?
Studying a bit of pharmacology, and my attention was drawn to Selegiline. It is primarily an anti-parkinsons disease medication/antidepressant in the US, but after looking for it on Google I noticed an article about it on Erowid, where several people gave it favorable reviews as a nootropic/upper. It is a selective MAO-B inhibitor which means it slows breakdown of dopamine and phenethlyamine. More about it can be found here (wikipedia)...
Has anyone tried selegiline at MAO-B dosages and Adderall (not at the same time) and how do they compare? There was an article on antiaging systems that Selegiline/Deprenyl worked as well as Ritalin but they are also selling one and not the other. I know Ritalin is different from Adderall but they are (mostly) used for the same purpose.
They all increase dopamine so wouldn't they have similar effects?
I consider myself fairly new to Reddit, and so I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong forum, but I'm not really looking for personal recommendations or "stack advice" I don't think. My question is simply, "Is the pharmaceutical known as BPAP at all available, either commercially or otherwise?" And I realize there are some extremely knowledgable people who frequent this board, so please forgive my medical naivety, but really, that's why I'm asking this question here instead of elsewhere. In case anyone's unfamiliar with the history of selegiline, please check out this link:
I just read it and found it thoroughly intriguing. If I understand correctly, BPAP has been around for more than fifteen years, so again, is this substance only obtainable to researchers? Thanks in advance....
So I've recently delved into nicotine use through electronic cigarettes, mainly for its orexin promoting benefits as I have mild narcolepsy, but I've come to find out that nicotine restricts blood vessels on the topical layers of your skin AKA your head/face. This sucks! Call me vain, but I take extreme pride in my looks. I'm extremely into physical fitness and nutrition. I'm currently 26 years old and always get placed at 21-23 years. I love that!
Anyway, I'm also a college student and nicotine really helps me get through the grind of college life. I also use Swedish snus on occasion as it's, supposedly, the "cleanest" tobacco source on the market. I also take 5mg selegiline (deprenyl) and 50mg-100mg modafinil daily. I occasionally use phenibut (3 days/week), GABA and taurine for their relaxation effects, and to help me get restful sleep. Obviously, I'm well versed in nootropics.
So what I'm hoping to receive feedback on are potential ways to "hack" nicotines negative effects (restricted peripheral blood flow). Obviously the fact that I exercise 4-5 days a week helps immensely. I can tell that I look much younger than most of my classmates from high school which is a plus. Exercise is probably the best way to negate nicotines negative effects, but I would like to know what everyone thinks. I drink coffee, matcha tea, take vitamin c, vitamin d, magnesium, turmeric, black pepper, use sriracha on numerous dishes, take fish oil, along with numerous other supplements and I eat lots of healthy fats. I also use bentonite clay topically from time to time. When I drink heavily (it is college you know) I drink a ton of water (purified) and take 3-4grams of vitamin c along with 1-2tsp of Himalayan salt for damage control. I also stick to drinks consisting of vodka or gin due to their high level of purity over other forms of alcohol.
Alright, I figure that's enough self-background for everyone to know that I take anti-aging seriously. Let me know if you have any other recommendations on negating the potential long-term negative effects of nicotine usage.
Other than selegiline/deprenyl. What about quercetin as an MAO-B inhibitor?
I recently purchased Phenylethylamine(PEA) to add to my nootropic stack, however I thought I would experiment with it by itself before going out one night. Based on what I read, I assumed it would be a great social/party enhancer with its antidepressant/euphoric properties. Before drinking a few beers a friend and I consumed about 1.5g each of PEA and in about 30-40min I experienced a really intense feeling of euphoria and an aura-like sensation around my body; it was really awesome in a way that is hard to describe. The feeling definitely seemed to get better with drinking beer. I have never done any drugs like cocaine or ecstasy, but my friend explained that it was a mild feeling similar to those drugs. I have no evidence to support that claim, but it definitely felt like I was on something for a limited time(approx 30min). We definitely pushed the recommended dosage past normal limits which I would not recommend; elevated heart rate, elevated blood pressure, rash resulted.
From my research, PEA is metabolized very quickly by MAO enzyme (monoamine oxidase), and an MAO Inhibitor is required to prevent the breakdown of PEA to sustain the effects. Most people seem to use selegiline (deprenyl), a type of MAOI which is used for Parkinson's and dementia, in conjunction with PEA. This MAOI is only available through a prescription in the U.S.
Is there anything else that I can use as a MAOI that doesn't require a prescription? I am wondering if anyone has any experience with PEA as a social/nootropic drug and how it can be sustained by legal supplements.
Does anyone have any recommendations to stack with PEA as a social enhancer that will yield sustainable results? I definitely appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
Has anyone here had experience with or is currently on a long-term Selegiline regimen? I'm looking to start one to help treat issues with anhedonia, ADD and motivation.
I've been making positive lifestyle changes as well (proper exercise, diet, etc) and looking for additional support. I've always responded quite well to dopaminergic substances, but don't want to undertake the currently accepted treatments due to side effects, most particularly volatility in mood.
I've been looking for experience reports and have seen varying degrees of success with long-term use of Selegiline. Much of the cessation of Selegiline use seems to come from people dosing improperly and impatiently due to the poor bioavailability and required time of accumulation needed before it can take proper effect.
Thanks!
Has anyone tried this? Too much dopamine at once?
Hello,
Back in 2012 I ordered a 90 pack of Jumex brand Selegiline to try out. For various reasons I never got around to it, but I am interested in giving it in a try again. I still have the pack I ordered. It expired in april of 2016, but it stayed in a dark climate controlled closet with the pills sealed in blister packs.
I understand over time drugs can lose their potency, but can it degrade into something dangerous / toxic? I googled expired Jumex/Selegiline and got some mixed opinions, a few of which said can be very dangerous. One person suggested over a period of 3-5 years it can degrade into l-amphetamine, but that ways only one post. Most people have suggested it may simply have slightly less effectiveness. I have researched it for years so I understand the normal risks of the drug and it's proper usage.
Can anyone knowledgeable on this shed some light on the subject?
I've been taking UMP for the last two months religiously. Last Friday I decided to try taking Selegiline as well. I crushed up half a tablet and took it sublingually (2.5mg) and within a half an hour I started to feel it's full effects...and side-effects of vertigo. I was at the gym and nearly passed out doing some light cardio. I headed home and my gf checked my BP which was over 180. With my vision starting to blur and serious brain fog setting in, I decided to stop all supplementation. It's been three days since then, and I seriously feel retarded. I feel worse than coming off of an ecstasy binge. I suppose all I can do is wait for my body to replenish my MAO-B enzyme, right? Does anyone know if there is something you can take to speed up that process? Is it possible that selegiline inhibited MAO-A also to trigger the hypertension? Could it be that the UMP had a negative reaction with the amphetamine metabolites?
Got a little bit of depression myself. Hell, actually, not little but yeah. I don't really want to go too much into details about it and I know a lot of people are against the use of other substances for helping yourself out with depression (at least that's what it seems). People just think the best choice of action would be to go to the therapist, get professional help, etc. I've heard it all, actually. I know, there's alternatives, go outside, get proper sleep, go out and get exercise, etc.
I tried. My depression is more so like feeling numb about everything. Everything just feels like shit and I cannot even sit and think and relax like the old days. Music doesn't touch me like it did before, nothing really feels alive. I feel so gone. I get the thought of just being gone from the world because nothing seems to matter. And that's really the truth of it all. I don't see the point in anything, I feel so detached from it all, like I'm not feeling the enjoyment I'm supposed to feel.
I want to care about things and I want to feel alive, but it feels like there's something in my brain that's lacking and preventing me from being able to do so.
I don't really expect much out of any one substances. I've tried recreational drugs for their therapeutic effects but none of it really has helped me out of it.
I'd just like to hear more about Deprenyl/Selegiline. Where am I able to find some of it as I've heard it's legal in the states? Or is that against the rules for that?
Pref in the EU but its chill if they are outside shipping in. Thanks!
I found many post about deprenyl but none of them is straight to the point. So as of 2016, which nootropics (if any) should not you take while taking a daily dose of 1,25mg deprenyl ?
I'm suspecting I'm slightly low on dopamine (no, I can't be arsed to get me tested), and considering a long-term program of 5-6 mg/day of selegiline. Any reports from the trenches from mid-40s people here? Thanks.
I've recently started using p-f-deprenyl at 1-5mg per day oral and sublingual and I'm pretty happy with it. Previously I had used regular l-deprenyl (Selegiline) for almost 10 years at ~0.25-5mg per day.
Observations:
- p-f-deprenyl feels much less potent than l-deprenyl and I am dosing higher as a result.
- Energy, concentration and mood seems to be as good, if not better.
- Aggression/irritability is still a side effect as with l-deprenyl but more tolerable
Anyone else have experiences with this?
I realized that I have been taking deprenyl/selegiline consistently for 20 years now (5mg/day) and now that we have Reddit, it seemed like a good idea to give my personal anecdote (n=1) as that seems to be what people do here.
I started when I was 24 and I am 44 now. I am definitely sharper mentally and most people tell me that I look a lot younger than I am. I feel very healthy.
I've always been skeptical, and I know that it is a combination of genetics, lifestyle, and the other metric ton of drugs/supplements that I take, but I think that there is something to deprenyl.
At the very least, it doesn't seem to accelerate aging and mental decline.
I should add that I am not giving advice or advocating use. I don't honestly care what other people take.
I know that deprenyl can be harmful to some people and in various situations and that no one should take it without researching it thoroughly.
