My 9 1/2 year old beagle has always had separation anxiety since I adopted him 8 years ago. We have done all the behavior modifications, dog walkers and crate training (a house saver). Since Christmas his anxiety has gotten so bad that he chewed through a dog crate, drools non-stop when I crate him, has diarrhea when we go to work and caused massive damage to our home. We took him to the vet today. After ruling out all the possible physical causes she recommended Anxitane (L-theanine), it costs $50+ per month. Or Reconcile (fluoxetine) that costs over $76 per month.
So I did some digging... L-theanin looks amazing. I also found out I can buy the human brand for $26 for 2 months from my local health food store. It is actually made with the same L-theanine called Suntheanine. The only difference is that it's not flavored.

Has anyone used this? Any successes? I also thought I would share this new info
Edit: We have tried rescue remedy, aromatherapy, homeopathic, chinese herbs and doggie relaxation CDs as well.
