The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thank you Jenhawk777 for the message that you left on Gerda's page for me. Truly, the volunteers of these huge projects like WP, LibriVox, DP cannot go the extra mile without people like Gerda and you, who inject fresh energy into the volunteers. The kind words are our only salary, and fortunately we all can pay each other a lot. :) Qapisce (talk) 10:57, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A superior barnstar for you![edit]

The Order of the Superior Scribe of Wikipedia
For all the time and effort you have put in — across thousands of edits — to markedly improve numerous articles related to Christianity all these years. The magnitude of the positive impact you have had with regard to Wikipedia's coverage of academic topics related to Christianity is unprecedented; I cannot think of any other editor who has worked so rigorously and improved those topics to the extent that you have. You are a phenomenal editor and your work is awe-inspiring. Thank you for all that you do! — The Most Comfortable Chair 21:12, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing of Conversion to Christianity[edit]

ActivelyDisinterested Bless you! Thank you! I so deeply appreciate you and all your work. You are still the one I will reach out to when I have a problem, but you have taught me a lot, and this article was just too much to ask someone else to do for me. I would have enjoyed banging my head against a wall more, but hey, I followed your example and got it done. I put it up for peer review and others suggested adding back a theology section which I am beginning work on today. Thank you again. You are a great blessing. Question from Paulinefowler666 (16:59, 3 May 2024)[edit]

Hi! I have noticed some Wikipedia pages have lists of celebrities in a table, for example this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Simpsons_guest_stars_(seasons_1%E2%80%9320)

And some celebrities names will have † next to them to symbolise that the celebrity is dead. For example the table of housemates here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebrity_Big_Brother_(British_TV_series)_series_20 I was wondering if this is appropriate to put on any sort of article (like the one above) or is this not necessary? I find the idea very helpful, but if it's not needed on every sort of table including celebrities I understand. --Paulinefowler666 (talk) 16:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For lists try this: [2]. For the rest follow this: [3]. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:15, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't mention anything about adding † to lists, I was just wondering if it's okay on any list containing deceased celebrities, to signal that they have since passed away, especially on reality shows etc.
Like on the Big Brother one I linked, there is a † next to those who passed away in the table. But on the Simpsons one, there isn't any next to celebrities that passed from that table. I was wondering if it would be acceptable to add the † to those who passed on any sort of table. It wouldn't make sense to be okay on one form of article but not another. Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I like the clarification! Paulinefowler666 (talk) 13:45, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paulinefowler666, hi! I have no idea what is "best" here (my guess is no firm rule except WP:BLP etc), but you might be able to get a more informed opinion if you ask at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style. Looking at your table, my reaction is "I can see why someone would want to add that, by I wouldn't bother myself." Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:33, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the press[edit]

"But should we not seek the truth? Yes, of course. Nonetheless, as Maher said, like the volunteer writers of Wikipedia, we also must focus on "the best of what we can know right now." That is a statement of intellectual humility, not of relativism. Complex topics and problems do not lend themselves to easy assessments of truth in real time. Through broad sourcing, the Wikipedia model in theory moves us to closer approximations of what is true."

I think that's pretty good. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:16, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's perfect! Wow! I think I will put it on my name page. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:30, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Moly McMillan on Tom Dunn (golf course architect) (10:06, 21 May 2024)[edit]

On the Tom Dunn list of courses. Kingsdown has a [where?] Beside. Dunn was based in Somerset and the Kingsdown in question is very likely the one 'Near Bath'. So to be edited to read similar to the Lansdowne course. Ie. "Kingsdown, near Bath". --Moly McMillan (talk) 10:06, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sure - if you have a source you can cite, go for it. Jenhawk777 (talk) 21:15, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from KingLuuh (15:41, 22 May 2024)[edit]

Hello how do I edit a story. --KingLuuh (talk) 15:41, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have stories on WP. We have research papers that we call pages or articles, but they are research papers like you would write in college. Do the research, go to edit source on the article, and add what you found to an article including the citation to the reference you used, with the page number, where someone else could find what you have written. I'm afraid that's beyond my scope. You'll need to ask someone in that field. Good luck. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:40, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ThomasCup2024 (14:28, 29 May 2024)[edit]

Someone is attempting an edit war.

He said "NPOV" yet I've used sources that abide by wikipedia's trusted sources for impartiality. On the Lee Chong Wei page. Looking at his history he has said that the reason why he kept deleting another user's edits on Lee Chong Wei, was because he himself did not consider him as one of the greatest, completely ignoring the sources. --ThomasCup2024 (talk) 14:28, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I went to the article page and looked it over. First, create a new topic on the talk page and ping him directly asking him to explain his revert. Don't assume you know what he thinks. WP:NPOV says Avoid stating opinions as facts. but the problem here could be solved by adding an attribution - who says he is the best - and by including any statements of disagreement. Defend your sources and rewrite that edit to include attribution and opposition - if there is any - and put that on the talk page discussion. Next, if you get nowhere, go here: Wikipedia:Dispute resolution#Resolving content disputes and do what it says. Just know that the first thing Admin will ask is if you tried to resolve this on the talk page. An edit war will reflect badly on you, so stop trying to add that to the article for now. Let me know how it goes. Jenhawk777 (talk) 15:35, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say[edit]

I started two articles this week. Teddy bear lady Charleen Kinser and crazy Shakespeare lady Ola Ince. TBH I thought Ola was a dude when I started, it's not a girl's name in Sweden. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:55, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ola was my great-grandmother's name, but she was German I think. It's funny isn't it - I almost never start new articles. It's my mission to clean up old ones and there are over a hundred in my area of study. I will die before I finish. :-( Jenhawk777 (talk) 20:59, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently Ola (given name) is very "democratic" that way. WP isn't technically infinite. but from our perspective it kinda is. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:05, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah to all the above! Jenhawk777 (talk) 21:08, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
