The Pest[edit]

User:Vegaswikian added a disambiguation needed tag to the In popular culture entry for The Pest. Just wanted to mention that this was added to the article in 2009 by an IP address user and never referenced AFAIK. I'm going to try and find some more info on it as I consider it suspect. -- Limulus (talk) 15:58, 3 February 2012 (UTC) I'm having trouble finding info on the older movies and I can't find anything that claims the 1997 one had a scene there other than pages that took info from this article, so I'm going to take it out of the article; if anyone can find a ref that supports it, please put it back in. Official city business only?[edit]

User:Jayron32 tagged the following text as needing a citation:

"The house may only be used for official city business. Only visiting public officials and the mayor's family may reside with the mayor at the mansion, even for a single overnight stay. As a result, Mayor Rudy Giuliani was unable to have his then-girlfriend live with him (because they were not married), because it would have violated using a taxpayer-funded home for a private citizen. Giuliani was forced to relocate."

A simple google search ('giuliani gracie mansion girlfriend') found several articles which basically state that the actual issue was regarding Giuliani's marriage:

ABC News (May 21, 2001) "State Supreme Court Justice Judith Gische granted Hanover's request for a restraining order barring Judith Nathan from Gracie Mansion, the mayor's official residence, and its surrounding grounds. Hanover, 51, and Giuliani, 56, continue to live at Gracie with their children, Andrew, 15, and Caroline, 11. Hanover sleeps in the master bedroom while Giuliani sleeps in a guest room. Gische further restrained Giuliani from permitting Nathan, 46, from being "present at any event attended by the children of the marriage or otherwise being in the presence of the parties' children." The case has addressed which sections of the 200-year-old, four-story house are considered to be public or private."

I prefer to review older nominations but find it impossible to ignore the hook with the public toilet. It is short, clear, and very attention-grabbing. The dirty bit is not in the preview we got here but it is in the cited article; you just have to ~~bypass the paywall~~pay to read it. I applaud you, Epicgenius, for the effort that went into expanding this article. It grew more than fivefold within the past 7 days and is brilliantly written and sourced. I see no neutrality or copyright issues. I love how it links to potential new articles (e.g. Maureen Hackett). I wonder if Susan E. Wagner could be notable if she was as active in society as the article states. The image is lovely in this size; shout-out and thanks to Jim.henderson for it. Grammar and other[edit]

"and it has also received accolades and been depicted in numerous media works." might be missing a word before been depicted

In the body we have "also known as Archibald Gracie Mansion" there is already a redirect from that title, so would it make sense to add this to the lead in bold?

This line reads funny to me, like conversational English. "The Europeans settled what is now New York City" what do you think?

This line also "This made Gracie Mansion one of a relative few official mayoral residences" It is up to you.

"New York City cultural affairs commissioner" Also wondering about capitalization here

"interior decorators; and Dianne Pilgrim and David McFadden were employed as the curators." Not sure the word and should appear after the semi

"designs of each room has been changed" might have meant to say have

"Prior to 1942," clearer language would be before

In the Previous site usage section the prose seems random and out of order from the end of the second paragraph and through the third.

Not sure if the citation should be inside the parenthesis here "mayor invited to the mansion[24])" I see this several times in the article so you intended to do it. I will research to see if this is MOS.

This line may read as conversational "Gracie was so wealthy that, when he lost $1 million in 1807 due to naval blockades, his net worth was hardly affected." what do you think?

I lose track of "Moses" as only his last name is used in the Conversion and La Guardia use section. Maybe use his full name at least once there?

"Susan had to change in a closet when official city meetings encroached into the mansion's living space" I know what this means but maybe we should make it clearer?

Would you consider using $ inflation templates? All of the expansions and repairs - especially the large amounts from the annex section - the amounts seem low but with inflation were actually high.

missing context for this line in the Koch use and expansion section? "He decided to live at Gracie Mansion full-time after having dinner there with his family" and "within four years, Koch had gone through four chefs"

asbestos abatement could use a link? And should ocher be ocher?

"mansion includes around 14 rooms" do we know how many?
