YMMV / Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky

Go To

  • Broken Base: Depending on who you ask, the Final Boss theme, "Colony Collapse Disorder", is either one of the greatest songs in the series or one of the most obnoxious, Narm-filled ones, something that pretty much boils down to how you feel about the repetitive "ko-ko-ko-ko-ko-ko" permeating through the entire thing.
  • Contested Sequel: The game is still generally agreed to be good in its own right, but while its status as a critical darling for its accessibility and an easy gateway entry into Atelier got many players in the mainstream gaming circuit to call it an Even Better Sequel, returning fans were a little more critical of it and would often prefer previous game Ayesha or even Meruru for various reasons, ranging from Escha & Logy''s more slow-paced plot to it being a little too much on the easy side compared to its predecessors.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Solle, as a new, non-returning character from Ayesha, was placed the highest after Logy and Escha in the official popularity poll. Thanks to his popularity, he plays a larger role in the next game and is even Promoted to Playable in the Plus remake (through DLC in the original PS3 version).
  • Even Better Sequel: The game was a critical darling among mainstream game reviewers for its easy accessibility to get into compared to previous entries, with the Time Management Game aspects being lenient and the battle system having some of the most depth an Atelier game could have at the time. While these factors were a bit polarizing for returning fans (see Contested Sequel above), it made the game into an easy entry gate for Eastern RPG fans and was treated as the best Atelier title among gaming press for a long while.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Having the homunculi clone a Purple Crystal with multiple traits that increase its selling point at shops makes it very easy to rack up massive amounts cole. Not only that, but you can use this money to buy benefits that directly increase your stats and alchemy abilities, as well as other benefits. Additionally, any money you have at the end of the game will carry to a New Game Plus, meaning that you can start getting great benefits right away.
    • If you synthesize an Elixir or Elixir Base with the properties "Perpetual Motion" note  and "50% Automatic" note , it becomes nearly impossible for you to lose: whenever your health gets anywhere near low, the Elixir will automatically activate and heal everyone to nearly full health.
    • Escha's ultimate attack item, the Knowledge Book, when used in a Double Draw with the proper build, can inflict over a million damage, more than enough to inflict a One-Hit KO to any enemy in the game including the Final Boss and Superbosses. Even if you don't take the effort to craft the exact equipment and properties needed to reach that amount of damage, it can deal insane amounts of damage if you give it just decent properties.
    • The Sun Flower comes with max points in every elemental category, so you can just freely toss one in any recipe you can and max out just about everything. Plus ended up nerfing it by having some of its new recipes rely on reaching precise numbers in order to prevent the player from just indiscriminately spamming it.
  • Gateway Series: The Dusk series was already made in the hopes of pushing more actively to get the Atelier series to reach a global audience, but Escha & Logy was especially successful at this, since its presentation style and the inclusion of a male protagonist managed to get the attention of Eastern RPG fans who would have otherwise passed the series off as "Moe bait". While its sales were moderate in Japan, it sold like hotcakes in Western countries, and word of mouth among retailers says that it was probably the most successful modern Atelier title there until the later Mysterious series and Ryza games became even bigger breakout hits.
  • Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading: Believe it or not, Escha and Logy weren't intended by the devs to be pushed as a romantic pair when the original PS3 version of the game shipped, but when you have a pair that works off Opposites Attract with a deep and meaningful bond plus some things that are really hard to not read as Ship Tease, you're inevitably going to get people shipping them really hard. By the time Plus came around, Gust gave up and let people go for explicitly romantic options if they wanted.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The theme for the world map has a bass line that almost matches that of slow introduction part of Yes' Heart of the Sunrise
