Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears is a 1988 TV movie, released as a part of the "Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10" series. The film is notably the final time that Daws Butler voiced Yogi Bear before his passing.
In the film, spring has sprung at Jellystone Park, and Ranger Smith is determined to keep Yogi at bay. However, in the midst of their usual antics, Yogi and Bobo are abducted by a race of space aliens. The aliens intend to conquer the Earth via the use of duplicates of the bears. Yogi and Boo-Boo try to get back home to Earth, where Ranger Smith, Cindy Bear, and the others deal with an deluge of extra Yogis and Boo-Boos.
This movie includes examples of:
- Animation Bump: Cindy Bear's musical number has noticeably more fluid movement.
- Art Shift: The film utilizes digital ink-and-paint, similar to Scooby-Doo! and the Reluctant Werewolf.
- Company Cross References: Yogi inserts a "Yabba-dabba-doo!" into his rhymes at one point.
- Interspecies Romance: Boo-Boo becomes smitten with Snulu, an alien creature that resembles a small bear like him, but her actual species is not addressed.
- Love at First Sight: Boo-Boo and Snulu are immediately attracted to each other the moment they meet.
- Sanity Slippage: Ranger Smith is already on edge at the beginning of the film, but all of extra Yogi duplicates send him nearly to the brink of insanity.
