The Likeaballs was a 2006 BBC animation about a team of ball-shaped aliens traveling the galaxy after their home planet was destroyed. They play against other aliens in football matches, their reoccurring enemies being the Dislikeaballs.
Tropes found in Likeaballs:
- Aliens Speaking English: The Likeaballs, along with most of the other alien species they play against, can speak English and understand each other just fine.
- Can't Take Criticism: Actually, this was a Compressed Vice for Invinciball, when his shield of criticism was stolen, he had to learn the moral that criticism is not a bad thing.
- Compressed Vice: Because the show had to include lessons in every episode, once or twice one of the Likeaballs would have to temporarily have a vice that needs resolving, although toned down for the children.
- Harmless Villain: The Dislikeaballs were hardly a Take Over the World type group and would often get hit by their won traps, or would end up losing big time. If anything, they often failed at their goals.
- Nice Guy: Kickaball the main protagonist is nice, and it is one of his major character traits.
- Punny Name: All of the Likeaballs and Dislikeaballs have names that end in "-aball," being puns of words that end in "-able." For example, Laughaball is a play on "laughable."
- Status Quo Is God: Zig-zagging and Enforced. The show didn't need to have any major continuity changes, but changes to the status quo for morals the football protagonists learnt did stick.
- Team Spirit: A reoccurring theme throughout the show. The Likeaballs always win by working together, while the Dislikeaballs always lose because they argue with each other.
