A reviewer out of Australia who hosts three main segments: Infamous Queer, obviously, focuses on queer media, be it good, bad, or uncomfortably archaic. Period Drama Drama examines Costume Dramas from narrative, historical, and design perspectives. Her third segment stars her alter ego, the Gender Hipster, an androgynous, possibly genderqueer, Soapbox Sadie who does shorter, much more blunt reviews specifically focused on characters who subvert or play with conventional gender roles, that is, when ze isn't getting on Infamous Sphere's last nerve. Because most gender-bending movies and a surprising number of Costume Dramas actually have gay characters, the segments frequently overlap.
Tropes used and/or examined in Infamous Sphere Reviews include:
- Adaptation Distillation: Inverted with the 1983 TV version of Jane Eyre starring Timothy Dalton. Pretty much every scene from the book is kept, grinding it to a snail's pace.
- Bifauxnen: Gender Hipster in particular loves women in men's clothing.
- Brain Bleach: literally has a bottle on standby during her Ben and Arthur review.
- But Not Too Gay: A frequent source of ire.
- The Cameo: Diamanda Hagan has a couple.
- She was one of the five (non-Channel Awesome) reviewers to appear in Hagan's 50th episode as part of an assassination plot.
- Captain Ersatz: Parodied with "Diamanda Fakin'" and "Fauxancitizen".
- Crosscast Role: Gender Hipster, although ze doesn't really have an "opposite" gender.
- Deadpan Snarker
- George Jetson Job Security: Gender Hipster was terminated from zir job for being too difficult to talk about in the third person.
- Hollywood Atheist: Defied. She states plainly that she has no problem with Religion so long as it doesn't harm anyone. She berates Ben and Arthur for its baffling depiction of Christianity.
- Honor Before Reason: Her major problem with Bent was that it was trying to present a Gay Aesop about being true to your sexual identity when the characters could have been looking for a way to escape Nazi Germany."The Holocaust is not the time for gay pride!"
- Keanu Reeves: Her favorite "Bad" actor.
- Littlest Cancer Patient: The long sequence from War Horse featuring the "precocious orphan girl who lives with her Grandfather like fucking Heidi" tries to add to the drama to the war narrative but ultimately goes nowhere."Apparently she's got some kind of serious disease like glass bones, TB or something, but it doesn't seem to stop her from looking surprisingly healthy."
- Medal of Dishonor: "Heterosexual for 3 weeks!"
- No Biological Sex: The Gender Eliminator, an alien who wants to conquer earth and eliminate all gender expression completely.
- No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dine: One scene in Ben and Arthur depicts the heroes and villains dining together, only eating one cracker each. Bad manners, even for a movie villain.Diamanda Hagan: I would have served croissants.
- Pronoun Trouble: Gender Hipster was fired because people at zir workplace got tired of saying "he or she" all the time.
- The Queen's Latin: A big pet peeve of hers. Bent and War Horse in particular.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Although they have similar reviewing styles, hers is more level-headed while Gender Hipster's tends to be more judgmental.
- Rummage Sale Reject: Gender hipster enjoys wearing a rainbow tutu with a tank top, flats, and, occasionally, a mustache.
- Scenery Porn: an entire musical Montage is dedicated to the art direction and scenery of Far from Heaven, all be it with a They Made Me Watch This style text-rant.
- Shared Universe: Because of the cameos, she's part of the Reviewaverse.
- Shown Their Work: Episodes of Infamous Queer and Period Drama Drama typically come with history lessons for those unfamiliar with the context of the film.
