A 2017 Interactive Fiction game created by Buster Hudson for the Interactive Fiction Competition.
You have recently been procured by the knight Ser Leonhart and his faithful squire Tuck. Believing you capable of sniffing out wizards, they have brought you to the keep of the evil shapeshifting wizard Queklain, with the goal of defeating him and rescuing the kidnapped Princess Joy.
Unfortunately, you are no wizard sniffer, merely an ordinary pig.
You can play the game here.
Contains examples of:
- All Animals Are Dogs: The dragon acts a lot like a dog, licking people's faces and being eager to play with a ball. It actually is a dog, transformed.
- And Now You Must Marry Me: Queklain planned to have the kidnapped princess marry his son.
- Attack! Attack! Attack!: Ser Leonhart will attack almost anything you sniff.
- Blatant Lies: Some of the things the lying flea says are very obviously lies.
- Broken Bridge: The first puzzle of the game is finding a way to lower the drawbridge to the keep so you can cross.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment: Laundry duty is feared by all the servants.
- Cutting the Knot: The vending machine puzzle can be solved, but it's much easier to bypass it by getting Ser Leonhart to destroy it.
- Damsel out of Distress: As you explore the keep, you discover that the princess has already fled.
- Dramatic Wind: At the start of the game, Ser Leonhart's hair blows in the wind as he poses dramatically. Tuck achieves the effect for himself by holding his hair up.
- Eldritch Abomination: One of the servants is a tentacled "unnameable horror". Gazing upon her will reduce a human to a gibbering mess.
- Evil-Detecting Dog: Your companions believe you to be a wizard sniffer, though in reality that was made up by the person who sold you to them.
- Evil Sorcerer: Queklain.
- Family Theme Naming: All of Queklain's family has names that end in 'ain' or 'aine'.
- Forced Transformation: A potion mixup at the keep led to some of the inhabitants turning into other things.
- Hero Academy: Hero Akademy is mentioned as a place that trains knights.
- Hint System: At the start of the game, you can pick up two fleas who can give you hints on command, with the caveat that one tells the truth while the other one lies.
- Intellectual Animal: You are remarkably smart for a pig, even able to read. Because you're actually a human who was transformed into a pig.
- Knights and Knaves: The fleas that serve as the game's hint system give their hints in this form, with one flea telling the truth and the other one lying.
- Lampshade Wearing: One of the heroes hides himself poorly by wearing a lampshade on his head.
- Locked Door: The doors to the keep. You can get through, but you need to find and bring back the keys to let your companions through.
- Love Potion: Queklain planned to give one to the princess in order to make the wedding happen.
- Never Learned to Read: Neither Ser Leonhart nor Tuck can read.
- Nobody Here but Us Statues: One of the heroes disguises himself (poorly) as a statue.
- Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: The flyer has several random verbs ending in -eth.
- Overly Long Name: The princess and the king both have these, as seen from examining the flyer. Princess Joyanna Marianna Novellanna Montcabernet Savignon, and King Aurelius Audacious Latinus Montcabernet Savignon XXVIII.
- Pepper Sneeze: If you shake the pepper shaker, everyone in the room will sneeze.
- Rebellious Princess: Princess Joy ends up giving up her identity to start a new life, remarking that now, maybe the citizens can get the democracy they've been wanting.
- Samus Is a Girl: Yourself. Your companions assume you to be a male pig, but you're female.
- Shaped Like Itself: Corporation Incorporated.
- Shared Unusual Trait: The family portraits are described as having violet eyes.
- The Squire: Tuck. He's doing an apprenticeship at Hero Akademy.
- Standard Hero Reward: The reward posted for the return of Princess Joy is her hand in marriage and a hefty dowry.
- Starting a New Life: In the end, Joy, Tuck, and Tristain run off to start new lives, with Joy casting aside her old identity.
- Two Aliases, One Character: The Player Character turns out to be Princess Joy, transformed into a pig.
- Wholesome Crossdresser: Tristain, whose room is full of dresses, wigs, and makeup.
- Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Parental expectations clashing with their children is a recurring theme. Queklain disapproves of his son's crossdressing, yet he broke away from the family tradition of puzzlemaking to take on a feminine profession. Tuck is pressured to become a hero. Joy is expected to marry whoever her father tells her to.
