Stellar Bewitching is an RPG Maker MZ game developed by Starmage in 2023. A remastered version was released in 2024 featuring updated graphics and rebalanced combat.

In 212 AXW, Elya Seres doesn't want to be the only one in her friend group who is single for Venusia's Day, so she lies about having a long-distance boyfriend. Unfortunately, her friends want to meet this non-existent boyfriend, so now Elya has to find someone to play this role. Her slime familiar, Floryn, recommends kidnapping and brainwashing someone in the Limbo Realm to serve this purpose. While in the Limbo Realm, the party recruits Pokie, a penguin Master Swordsman with a massive vengeful streak, and Ivan Deltis, a Farseen spearsman who feels underappreciated by his tribe. Unfortunately, a mad wizard steals Floryn's magic tome, which he plans to use to conquer the galaxy of Xerxes. This is all happening in parallel to the events of Rave Heart, but is otherwise a standalone story.

Can be downloaded from itch or Steam.

This game contains examples of the following:

  • Ambiguous Situation: During the nightmare world segment, a woman's voice uses a spell to free Ivan's mind and allow him to fight back against the nightmare monsters. The voice's owner is never confirmed, though she seems to know Ivan and his background, making the Farseen mage Mystika a potential candidate.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Invoked by Floryn in the normal ending, where the party sends Pokie back to Yurielle, only for him to reveal his intention to kill off the Northern Pingu Tribe. Floryn brings up the possibility that the tribe is actually a bunch of evil maniacs and may deserve his bloody retribution, though this is mainly an attempt to ease Elya's conscience. It's also possible that the Pingu tribe didn't appreciate Pokie's extreme retribution against the Topher Tribe and considered him a menace to society.
  • Asshole Victim: In the normal ending, Pokie brutally slices the Big Bad Sedrick into pieces, who spent all game being a smug prick who constantly underestimates the party. He even put the party in a nightmare world so that they'll be tormented by their greatest fears forever. That said, the rest of the party thought Pokie went too far in his retribution.
  • Ax-Crazy: Pokie is introduced drawing his sword on the party, only to join them because he knows he needs their help to return to Yurielle. However, he reveals he slaughtered the Topher Tribe to avenge his mate, including the civilians. When he relives that moment in the nightmare world, he takes joy in slicing the tribe to ribbons again. In the normal ending, he hacks Sedrick to death in a Gory Discretion Shot and reveals that he plans on wiping out the Northern Pingu Tribe. In the good ending path, he tones down his bloodlust and realizes that his partner wouldn't want him to use violence to cope with her death.
  • Big Bad: Sedrick is the main antagonist of the game, due to stealing Floryn's tome. He plans on using it to revive his Dark Arcana Clan ancestors and take over the Galaxy of Xerxes.
  • Blob Monster: Floryn is Elya's slime familiar, who is drawn as a slime with a witch's hat, star-patterned skin, and two nubs as arms/hands.
  • Cast from Hit Points:
    • Elya's Diabolical Edict buffs the party's offensive stats, but also deals a small amount of damage to them. If anyone's HP is too low, this can actually KO them. Fortunately, this is also an Instant skill, meaning she can just follow it up with a group heal anyways.
    • Similarly, Ivan's Blood Pact heals 50% of his EP and buffs his ATK, MAT, DEF, MDEF, and AGI, but deals 15% of his Max HP in damage to him.
  • Combat Medic: Elya has decent ATK and MAT as a gun-wielding witch, but isn't as specialized in offense as the other party members. However, she's still the best source of Force damage against enemies that are weak to that attribute. She also has healing and barrier spells to keep the party alive.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Or rather, interquel. Sedrick's plan to revive his Dark Arcana Clan and take over the Galaxy of Xerxes is happening at the same time as Count Vorakia Estuuban's conspiracy to take control of Xerxes. The difference between them is that Vorakia is able to gather co-conspirators and take control of various institutions to gain political power while Sedrick has no political power and has no allies outside of summoned monsters. Additionally, Vorakia enhances himself with psionic powers while Sedrick already has magic powers to begin with.
  • Dungeon Shop: In each dungeon, the party can buy items from Kraden, a time-traveler. Since the game doesn't have towns, this is the only way for the player to stock up on goods and heal, though most consumables are fairly cheap to compensate.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Floryn is willing to have someone brainwashed to be Elya's boyfriend for a day, which Elya finds unethical. However, even Floryn is disturbed by Pokie's capacity and lust for violence.
  • Extra Turn: Pokie's Wrathful Edge buff grants the target a speed boost and an extra action per turn, which helps in keeping up with later bosses and their ability to act two to three times per turn.
  • Family of Choice: In the good ending, Pokie states that he considers the party his honorary tribe. The normal ending provides the context to this statement: he made an enemy of his original tribe, the Northern Pingu Tribe, to the point where they summoned a bone golem to protect themselves from his merciless blade. Even if he were to change his ways, he already burnt his bridges and the party is the closest thing he has to a family now.
  • Fragile Speedster: Pokie isn't much more durable than Elya and Floryn, but he has high AGI and can apply an AGI buff that also grants an extra action.
  • Good Is Not Nice:
    • Floryn is Elya's familiar, but she's rather blunt about her master's inability to find a boyfriend and she openly suggests brainwashing someone to temporarily act as Elya's boyfriend.
    • Double subverted with Pokie, who is willing to work with the party to get home, but he's also incredibly cutthroat and vengeful. When the Topher Tribe kills his wife, he has everyone in the tribe killed, including civilians, and he doesn't seem to regret it. However, the normal ending reveals that he's not actually the protector of his tribe, since his bloodthirsty ways caused him to turn on them to the point where they sent a bone golem after him. If the party finds the secret fight with Misha in the nightmare segment and unlocks the good ending, Misha will convince Pokie to let go of his rage and become a better person. Although he does make good on that promise, he still calls the party weaklings and he makes it clear that he's only giving Sedrick one chance to surrender Floryn's book.
  • Hero Antagonist: The Superboss is Misha, Pokie's mate, who fights the party in order to get Pokie to move on from her death.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Ivan has the best ATK, DEF, and HP of the party, but also has the second highest AGI.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Pokie became a mad avenger after the Topher Tribe killed his mate Misha, to the point where he killed uninvolved civilians in her honor. Worse yet, this caused him to believe Murder Is the Best Solution in other matters too, leading to him butchering the Big Bad Sedrick in the normal ending. In the nightmare world, he's faced with the Topher Tribe as the manifestation of his fear, but his fear is failing to avenge Misha rather than fear of getting his hands bloody.
  • Love Redeems: Although Pokie became a mad avenger for his fallen mate Misha, deep down, he knows that she would never approve of his actions, as shown when the nightmare world manifests his memory of her. She convinces him to stop using his rage to cope with his heartbreak, leading to him sparing his enemies instead of needlessly killing them.
  • Mage Marksman: Elya is a witch who wields a gun in battle. Her gun skills deal Force damage while her spells deal Ether damage.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Pokie's wife Misha was killed by the Topher Tribe, so he killed everyone in the tribe as retribution regardless of their involvement, including children.
  • Morality Chain Beyond the Grave: If the party finds the secret boss battle with Misha, she convinces Pokie that he needs to stop letting his grief control him. This changes the ending so that Pokie spares Sedrick instead of killing him, knowing that Misha would want him to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Sedrick traps the party in a nightmare world where they have to face their worst fears. If the party has the Yurielle Quartz, they can interact with a torch to find Pokie's deceased lover, Misha, who convinces him to drop his murderous ways. As a result, Pokie decides to spare Sedrick and give up on his vendetta against his own tribe.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Ivan is treated as rookie by the warriors in the Farseen Tribe, but when he joins the party, he's a Lightning Bruiser compared to the other members. This is less because of physical weakness on his part, but more because the other warriors consider his impulsive nature a liability.
  • Parental Abandonment: Ivan's parents left him with the Farseen Tribe in the hopes that he'll discover a greater purpose there. Unfortunately, Ivan develops abandonment issues and becomes desperate to prove himself, causing him to become too reckless by the tribe's standards.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: If the player wins the secret boss fight against Misha, she convinces Pokie to stop letting grief consume him, resulting in him becoming less Ax-Crazy, but still somewhat insulting towards the party. While he does spare Sedrick, he makes it clear that Sedrick only has ten seconds to give up Floryn's book before he changes his mind.
  • Rōnin: At first, it seems that Pokie is a katana-wielder serving the Northern Pingu Tribe, but in the normal ending, it turns out that he actually turned on his own tribe and is serving no one but himself. Even in the good ending where he gives up on his vendetta, he cuts ties with the tribe and wanders alone as a masterless swordsman.
  • Smug Snake: Sedrick is an arrogant mage with delusions of taking over the Galaxy of Xerxes, and believes that he can easily defeat the party, especially Pokie who is a small penguin. When they break out of the nightmare world that he trapped them in, he gets desperate enough to summon an Eldritch Abomination that he might not be able to control. In the good ending, Pokie intimidates him into giving back Floryn's book, showing that he's not the big shot that he thinks he is.
  • Squishy Wizard: Floryn has the highest MAT and MDF of the party, but her HP, ATK, and DEF are low.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Elya comes clean about the plan to brainwash someone to be her boyfriend and how Ivan is a potential candidate, Ivan points out that she could have just asked him to pretend to be her boyfriend to appease her friends.
  • Superboss: The secret boss is Misha, who can only be fought by presenting the Yurielle Quartz to a seemingly unimportant torch in the nightmare world. She's the toughest fight in the game, due to her ability to inflict the chill ailment to lower the party's agility and deal MP damage over time. She can also set up a barrier, and unlike other bosses' barriers, this one reflects Force and Ether damage, the former of which she's weak to.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: In the normal ending, Pokie repeatedly slashes Sedrick to death instead of finishing him off in one clean stroke.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Pokie is an Ax-Crazy swordsman who will slice anyone who crosses him to shreds. He's also the party's resident Fragile Speedster, and the other members only put up with him because they need his help to defeat Sedrick. However, if the party clears the optional fight with Misha, the latter convinces Pokie to stop using bloodshed to deal with his grief over her death.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • Pokie is an arrogant swordsman who believes Murder Is the Best Solution to all of his problems, leading to him wiping out the Topher Tribe and coming into conflict with his own Northern Pingu Tribe. If the player finds the secret boss fight with Misha, she convinces him to stop trying to avenge her, causing him to give up on his vendetta against his tribe and even spare the Big Bad Sedrick. Otherwise, if the player misses this event, Pokie remains the same Ax-Crazy killer he was at the start of the game.
    • Ivan is eager to prove himself as a Farseen warrior and is abrasive towards his fellow tribesmen for not recognizing his worth. When he goes to the Limbo Realm, he becomes a lot nicer, mainly because he doesn't feel pressured to live up to the tribe's expectations when he's traveling with total strangers. He even forgives Elya and Floryn for lying to him about his destiny and voluntarily acts as Elya's boyfriend for Venusia's Day.
