- Word of God: Author Sandy Petersen has claimed creatorship of the Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath — basing them on the description of the "Shoggoths" from Robert Bloch's "Notebook Found in a Deserted House" (which the Lovecraft wiki says they originated from) but otherwise inventing their lore and abilities himself — and even snuck one into Quake as "Shub-Niggurath".
