In the series premiere, Batman goes after Professor Pyg and Mister Toad, two eco-terrorists that are targeting executives involved in a land deal gone wrong, mainly Simon Stagg, Michael Holt, and Bruce Wayne. Meanwhile, Alfred tries to convince him to have someone help him, to the point of hiring his god-daughter, Tatsu Yamashiro, as his bodyguard and driver. At the end of the episode, the hostages are rescued, Pyg and Toad get away, and Bruce meets Tatsu.
This episode provides examples of:
- Animal Wrongs Group: The whole drive for the villains in the episode, to kidnap and hunt their victims, is that the targets indirectly hurt animals.
- Establishing Character Moment: Batman using stealth and deception to take down two bank robbers.
- Hunting the Most Dangerous Game
- It Has Only Just Begun: Batman's got a feeling that Pyg and Toad will be terrorizing Gotham again soon, but not for a while.
- Instant Sedation: Subverted. Professor Pyg shoots Stagg with a tranquilizer dart in the neck, but all it does is make him feel woozy and weak. Mr. Toad actually has to knock him out the rest of the way, courtesy of a walking stick to the head.
- Meaningful Name: The title, "Hunted", comes partially from one of the victim's last name being Stagg, another word for deer.
- Outrun the Fireball: Batman escaping from the exploding oil rig.
- Stupid Crooks: One of the thieves in the first scene actually thinks Batman was advising him on how to win the fight.Batman: "I Lied."
- Title Drop: "What's that they say? Oh, yeah. Beware the Batman."
- The Unreveal: We never find out who put Bruce's name on the list of land dealers.
