Basic Trope: A character feeds another because of affectionate feelings.
- Straight: Alice invites Bob, her crush, over for a home-cooked meal after a rough day at the office.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice quits her job to work as Bob's unpaid cook because of his hard work.
- Alice's cooking is so wonderful, Bob falls for and proposes to her after just one bite.
- Downplayed: A character feeds another because of platonic affectionate feelings (e.g. baking for a friend who's feeling down).
- Justified:
- Alice is a chef and loves to cook, especially for those she cares about.
- Bob is a Big Eater and making him good food is a very easy way to get on his good side.
- Inverted:
- Alice reminds Bob not to eat because she knows he's on a diet.
- Alice eats a lot more for Bob, to gain weight for him.
- Alice despises Bob and cooks him awful food.
- Bob eats Alice's cooking (good or bad) because he loves her.
- Subverted:
- Alice offers Bob a box of chocolates, but they turn out to be gags.
- Alice cooks for Bob because Bob pays her to do so, not out of love.
- Double Subverted:
- Except that's only one of them.
- But even if Bob had never hired her, Alice would still be willing to cook for Bob.
- Parodied:
- Bob is morbidly obese because of Alice's supplying him with food.
- Bob proposes to Alice solely for her cooking ability.
- Zig Zagged: Alice cooks for Bob, but it's Depending on the Writer whether she is in love with him or not.
- Averted: Alice never cooks for Bob.
- Enforced: "Feeding will show she can cook and her tender heart."
- Lampshaded: "Alice cooked something for Bob. Think she likes him?"
- Invoked: When Carol learns of Alice's crush on Bob, she teaches her to cook his favorite meals so she can do this.
- Exploited:
- Bob's on a tight budget, and leads Alice on because he likes the free meals.
- Alice uses mildly addictive drugs when cooking for Bob so he'll keep coming to her for meals.
- Defied:
- "Just because I like you doesn't mean I'm cooking for you."
- Alice only cooks for Bob to practice her cooking skills, and tells him as such.
- Discussed: "Dude, Alice cooks for you? Every day? She's totally into you!"
- Conversed: "Alice seems to really like Bob. Do you think she'll cook for him?"
- Deconstructed:
- Alice's feeding Bob is an attempt to make him dependent on her.
- Alice is so shy, the only way she can express her feelings is though cooking, but Bob doesn't know that. From his perspective, Alice is just a nice girl who likes to cook for him.
- Reconstructed:
- But her feelings are genuine, she's just learning to cope with them.
- One day, Alice gives Bob a cake with the words "I love you" on it. Bob immediately realizes why Alice cooked for him, and the two officially become a couple, with Alice still cooking for Bob.
- Implied: Alice cooks for Bob frequently, and it occasionally looks like she might have a crush on him.
- Played For Laughs: Alice is actually an oblivious Lethal Chef, and it's all Bob, who actually does reciprocate, can do to not hurt her feelings.
- Played For Drama: Alice makes Bob food because she sees herself as unworthy of love, and thinks her cooking skills are her only good attribute.
