Nightmare Fuel / The Kaskade Region

Go To

Like its origin series, the Kaskade Region videos have their own share of horrors...

  • Kleptarak, a Bug/Dark-type, is a cobweb spider-like Pokémon with an eerie face, a grabby tail, and a penchant for kidnapping other Pokémon.
  • Telemac, a prehistoric Pokémon with powerful telepathic abilities, has the ability to influence others with the move Overbearing Command. This is illustrated by showing creepy voices whispering into the opponent’s mind, causing the defending Pokémon to essentially have a panic attack as it becomes overwhelmed by the mental suggestion. All while the increasingly-desperate cries of its trainer become more and more muffled and distant. Even Lockstin admitted it was kind of creepy.
  • Folleming is a pretty twisted take on the Pikaclone archetype - a dual Electric/Psychic-type Pokémon based on lemmings... and cults. Specifically the Rajneeshpuram from Oregon. The leader, or guru, uses telepathy to command other, weaker Folleming into doing its bidding, and they will mindlessly follow it anywhere... including, as per the Suicidal Lemmings stereotype, off of cliffs.
  • The two boxart Legendaries, Manadza and Arctikull. A fire-wielding lizard and a bear in ice armour, each of whom brings blazing summers or freezing winters with their presence, roaming in circles around Kaskade to try and change the environment to their liking, resulting in the Bizarre Seasons the Region experiences. The more you think about it, the more nightmarish this scenario gets:
    • Much like Kyogre and Groudon, Manadza and Arctikull are treated not as deities to be worshipped, but as Godzilla-esque forces of nature to be respected and feared. And for good reason - Kaskade's ecosystem is kept in balance only because the two Legendary Pokémon are deadlocked by their neverending chase around the Region. Furthermore, the economy is tied heavily into the unusual seasons, prospering because the conflict between the Legends makes seasonal crops and tourism activities more readily available. Should the cycle break in any way, Kaskade could be facing the death of the entire ecosystem, either through an eternal heatwave or an eternal ice age, as well as the economic collapse that would inevitably follow.
    • What makes this idea worse is that neither of them seem to care how many people or Pokémon would die if either of them succeeded in their goal. Arctikull is explicitly stated to care nothing for the lives its winters take as long as it is comfortable itself, and Manadza itself seems largely indifferent if not overtly malicious. At best, all other forms of life are insects to them; at worst, they're annoyances. The fact that they react in outrage to Tom Bezzle's demands shows that they don't take kindly to these miniscule bugs trying to order them about - and, presumably, they would have no problem wiping humans out if they pushed their luck.
  • Calling Ωrogon a Mechanical Abomination might be underselling it. What looks to be some kind of a bizarre combination of Porygon and Rotom attached onto a mechanical version of the Great Thunderbird with Rotom's face being what is presumably the stomach of the beast. It can command the four Pokémon in control of the seasons and can use the remains of the Great Thunderbird to get even stronger, making it comparable to Ultra Necrozma in strength and power.
  • Orbtholods, the Cataclysm Quartet, and Endram-Odai, the true villains of the 'game'. Orbtholods are weird invertebrates that can control people and are said to be owned by every important person in the region, the Cataclysm Quartet are summoned by the opening of every soul in the region, and their boss, Endram-Odai is a nightmarish whale-thing that hurts the main character to look at and messes with the character's memory (manifesting as Interface Screw). While Endram-Odai is under the control of a Puppeteer Parasite and the Quartet seems to be reluctantly going along with its commands, there is little sign of the Orbtholods being the same, meaning they're trying to destroy Kaskade — and possibly the world — just for the heck of it.
