Most physical things, due to being physical, have at least two opposing sides, since there's at least one dimension, exemplified by a cube. A cube has front and back, left and right, and top and bottom.
For non-physical things, like a piece of music, or a television show, they still have the dimension of time, where the opposing sides are usually the beginning and end of the work. But such works can have physical representations, like the parts for the left and right ears, or the left and right of a frame of animation, respectively.
"While opposing sides are usually different, what if they were the same?" That's the idea behind this index.
It's like Two-in-One Tropes, because there's two sides in one object, but they don't form a single object of the same type, usually. Unless they do.
Something involving both of a pair of organs, like eyes, arms, or legs, has a good chance of going in this index, since there's a good chance that the organs being symmetric, and therefore there's a lot of overlap with Stock Poses.
The amount of "similarity" between ends can vary, and the barest requirement is that they're the same type of thing, such that Two-Faced can count, since the type is "face", even though they look different.
This is basically the opposing index to Juxtaposition Tropes, although the latter is a bit broader, allowing non-physical pairings of opposing things, unlike this, which doesn't index things like The Horseshoe Effect.
The Competition Index, Dueling Tropes, and other indexes involving people, have some overlap due to having people interacting and being each of the two sides.
