Fridge / Barney & Friends

Fridge Horror

  • Barney is a large, stupidly cheerful Tyrannosaurus rex whose band of special friends changes every year. T. rex is a voracious predator. Did Barney manage to figure out the perfect camouflage to remain beneath suspicion as he gobbles down a bunch of school-aged children each year?
    • The whole camouflage thing probably isn't true. Barney said at one point he isn't a carnivore.
    • So did Bruce, Anchor, and Chum, and look how that turned out. All that has to happen to make Barney and his friends recreate the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park is for little Tommy to get bloody nose, followed by the purple one catching a whiff of his blood and the next thing you know it's chow time!
    • Considering they change every year, it's probably because the kids just outgrow him. The theme song's lyrics are "Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination..." He's just a part of the kids' imagination, as evident by the fact that we see a toy version of him at the beginning and end of each episode.
    • Not to mention the fact that several of the cast members from the past have made guest appearances years after they left the show as regulars.

Fridge Brilliance

  • Ever notice how Linda and Jill share a cubby at school? Their actresses, Adrienne Kangas and Lana Whittlington, respectively, were sixnote  and sevennote  years old during production of season six; they were just barely old enough to be legally able to keep the time commitments needed to play their roles. The way to deal with that was to have Lana come in to essentially double for Adrienne; the girls were basically job-sharing. it would have been more like they each had a part-time job on the show, but it would have been demographically redundant to have them appear together since they weren't twins.
    • Since Lananote  was about six months older than Adriennenote , there's also the possibility that the character of Jill was created so there would be a way to play episode concepts of a more mature character who filled the same niche.
Fridge Logic
  • In the second "Barney and the Backyard Gang" video, the kids make believe they're traveling to various destinations, with Barney's help, such as a park, the moon, and a petting zoo. When they arrive at the park, Jason complains about wanting to see animals, so Barney transports him to a petting zoo. This is problematic since the kids are really just in their backyard the whole time pretending their in other places. So... where did Jason go during this time?
    • An imaginary petting zoo. Jason goes and pretends he's at a petting zoo, while the other kids and Barney pretend to be at a park.
