In the Name of the King 3: Last Mission is a 2014 action fantasy directed by Uwe Boll and starring Dominic Purcell. It is a sequel to In the Name of the King and In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds
Like the second film, it centers on a modern-day tough guy who is sucked into a dimensional portal to a fantasy realm where he becomes a hero. Unlike the previous films, it is shot entirely in Bulgaria and features a cast almost entirely composed of Bulgarian actors.
The film features examples of the following tropes:
- Action Girl: Arabella and Emeline are experts with the sword.
- Another Dimension: The fantasy world is in another dimension from modern day Earth.
- Anti-Hero: Kaine is a mob killer.
- Arc Symbol: The medallion. It's featured in the credits, worn by one of the kidnapped girls, worn by King Tervon, and tattooed on Kaine's arm.
- Armor Is Useless: Hardly anyone wears armor in the film. Notably, our hero is dressed in pants and a peasant shirt, while Arabella and Emeline fight in elaborate, ankle-length dresses. This never seems to hinder them.
- Big Bad: King Tervon.
- Did Not Get the Girl: Kaine is sucked back to Bulgaria and leaves his new girlfriend behind.
- Hitman with a Heart: Kaine is uncomfortable with kidnapping girls and tries to treat them gently. He's conscience-wracked about leaving them and ultimately rescues them.
- In Name Only: Like the previous film, this film has nothing to do with the first film in the series. It is more closely related to the second film, in that it involves a tough guy from the modern day sucked into a fantasy world.
- Just a Stupid Accent: It's not clear if everyone is supposed to be speaking Bulgarian or if they're speaking English for no explicable reason. Only the main character, who is apparently not Bulgarian, has a native speaker's accent.
- Name of Cain: Our hero's name is Hazen Kaine.
- Our Dragons Are Different: A dragon shows up, which is controlled by the villain.
- Professional Killer: Hazen Kaine is a hitman working apparently for the Bulgarian mob.
- Race Against the Clock: Kaine wants to return to Sofia to rescue the girls he kidnapped and locked in a shipping container.
- Sibling Team: Arabella and Emeline are sisters and help lead the resistance against King Tervon.
- Supporting Leader: Tybalt, the leader of the resistance against King Tevron.
- Tattooed Crook:
- Kaine has a lot of tattoos, including the symbol on the medallion that keeps popping up.
- King Tervon also has a bunch of tattoos, including Kanji, for some inexplicable reason.
- What the Hell Is That Accent?: The film was shot in Bulgaria, mostly with local actors, so everyone in the fantasy world and in Bulgaria speaks with a thick Bulgarian accent except the main character.
- Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Kaine will kill adults, but he's reluctant to kidnap kids.
