Final Exam is a 1981 Slasher Movie.
It's midterms week at a small North Carolina college. Only a few students are left. Perfect hunting grounds for a Serial Killer, don't you think?
Not to be confused with the survival horror video game series.
This film contains examples of:
- Big Bad: The unnamed Serial Killer terrorizing the college.
- Cacophony Cover Up: The Gammas fake a mass shooting so that some of them can cheat on a chemistry test.
- Developing Doomed Characters: There are fifty minutes between the first kill and the second.
- Event Title
- Final Girl: Courtney, who is bookish and studious, of course.
- Generic Doomsday Villain: The killer is simply a guy with a knife who kills college students, who eventually has to be stopped by the Final Girl. The audience never learns anything about him or what his motivations for the killing spree might be.
- Horror Doesn't Settle for Simple Tuesday: Finals week.
- The Last Title
- Novelization: By Geoffrey Meyer.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: The Gammas happen to have a lawn jockey in their frat house for no other reason than to further demonstrate they're assholes if you hadn't already figured that out from the fake mass shooting they staged.
- Shout-Out: Radish has posters for The Toolbox Murders, The Corpse Grinders and Murder is My Beat in his room..
- Tempting Fate: Mitch says that "There ain't not one bit of crime on this campus... Not yet." Cue a Serial Killer.
- The Unreveal: We don't learn a thing about the killer.
- Wacky Fratboy Hijinx: In this case, "hijinx" means faking a mass shooting on campus as an initiation rite.
