PMD: Explorers of Death is a creepypasta based on Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers, specifically Explorers of Sky.
You can read the story here: https://pokepasta.fandom.com/wiki/PMD:_Explorers_of_Death
This creepypasta contains examples of:
- Adaptational Heroism: Shadow takes a Heel-Face Turn after his argument with Squirtle.
- Antagonist in Mourning: Inverted. Squirtle is actually glad that Myra!Vulpix is dead.
- Big Bad: Squirtle. Ironically, she was meant to be the main hero.
- Bloodier and Gorier: Squirtle’s appearance prior to a Soft Reset had empty eye sockets, exposed flesh and bones, and a near-cracked shell. It only gets worse with her second form, which has her skull cracked open, exposing her brain as well as her shell cracked open, exposing her organs.
- Body Horror: Squirtle’s forms. She returned to normal after Myra!Player reset the game.
- Boss Room: The background when taking the quiz, but red and rapidly glitching, and where Myra!Vulpix fights the Unborn.
- Dead to Begin With: Chatot was the first to die.
- Deliberately Monochrome:
- Shadow’s appearance is this, since he wasn’t the main character.
- Myra!Vulpix eventually lost her color when she died and became part of the Unborn.
- Downer Ending: Both Shadow and Myra!Vulpix get killed by Squirtle. The neat part? IT’S PERMANENT.
- Finish Him!: Shadow attempts to take both himself and Myra!Vulpix out with Discharge to free themselves, but it’s averted thanks to Squirtle.
- In the Back: Shadow gets a taste of this with Squirtle using Guillotine. It even split his body in half.
- Killed Mid-Sentence: Shadow attempts to warn Myra!Vulpix not to soft reset and return to the past, but dies before he could finish.
- Marathon Level: The dungeon, despite being the only one in the story.
- No Name Given: Squirtle is only ever referred to by the name of her species, since the player reset before her naming screen. The author has suggested Squirtle probably believes she deserves the name Myra over the Vulpix though.
- Plotline Death: Invoked, as the supplementary lore page explains that Myra can't die in the dungeon, as she'll just respawn outside if that happens. Squirtle is aware of this, and her entire plan is to enginner a scenario where Myra is killed in a cutscene, to ensure that she'll be gone for good.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Squirtle’s extremely damaged form.
- Schrödinger's Player Character: Deconstructed, when Myra!Player turns down Squirtle, it’s supposed to erase her, but she refuses to let this happen, causing the world to fall into stasis rather than be recreated for Myra!Vulpix. It’s also later revealed every starter not chosen is part of a collective entity known as The Unborn, which Squirtle was supposed to return to after Myra!Player resets, but instead, she exploits them as an army to try and finish off Myra!Vulpix, which would force her to be returned to them. By the end, neither Vulpix or Shinx are available choices, due to the Plotline Death of Myra!Vulpix and Shadow, with the character selection screen showing their corpses as Unborn.
- Slasher Smile: The close-up photo of Squirtle after her transformation has this.
- The Hero Dies: Myra!Vulpix gets stabbed in the head by Squirtle. Not even starting a new game could revive her.
