"In fairness, as much as I loved the show and loved everybody, it had spread its wings in rather broad directions. I mean, we were forever doing songs and dances and having people getting out of the lift in a frogman's outfit saying, 'The traffic was terrible, so I had to swim up the Thames', all that sort of stuff, and it began to get a bit silly. I think it lost direction a bit."

Trevor Gordon Bannister, (14 August 1934 — 14 April 2011), was a British actor best known for playing Mr. Lucas in Are You Being Served?.

His career began on TV in The '60s, with some of his earliest roles in The War of Darkie Pilbeam as Darkie Pilbeam and in The Dustbinmen as "Heavy Breathing". Shortly after, he was asked to play Mr. Lucas in Are You Being Served?.

AYBS? was originally intended as a vehicle for him, but as the series continued, Mr. Lucas was given less to do in favour of other characters such as Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe. Bannister left the series after its seventh series, as filming clashed with a play he was to appear in.

In 2001, he was cast as the Golf Captain in Last of the Summer Wine. In 2009, his character became a regular and was given the name "Toby Mulberry-Smith".

He died of a heart attack at the age of 76 while working in his garden.
