Shin Megami Tensei: DeviChil is a 50 episodes anime that ran from October 7, 2000 to September 29, 2001.

The anime serves as an adaptation to the Devil Children games Black Book and Red Book, although it takes many liberties with the characters and plot.

Beyond the first episode, the anime never got an official English dub, meaning if one wants to watch the full series they either have to watch it in Japanese or Italian.

Warning: spoilers for the first arc will be unmarked!

The series provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: The Shin Megami Tensei franchise usually portrays Lucifer as a complex and affable character, and his version in the Devil Children games is particularly benevolent. Here, however, he's devoid of any positive qualities.
  • Big Bad: The story can be divided into three arcs, each with its own Big Bad:
    • The first arc has Lucifer.
    • The second arc has a Big Bad Ensemble formed by Demogorgon, Vibhishana and Paimon.
    • The third and final arc has yet another Ensemble, with a Big Bad Duumvirate formed by Demogorgon and Paimon, and Zebul as an independent antagonist.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: By the end of the series, every major villain is defeated for good, and the Devil Children and their allies can finally live in peace.
  • Lighter and Softer: While not without its dark moments, this anime is much more family-friendly compared to most other works in the franchise.
  • Monster of the Week: While each arc has its own Big Bad, each episode features a different antagonist the protagonists have to fight.
