The New Adventures of Nanoboy is a Canadian-Hong Kong-Singaporean cartoon series that ran from 2008 to 2013. It centers on 9-year-old Oscar, who takes on the superhero identity of Nanoboy and shrinks to microscopic size to fight against evil microbes along with the rest of the Nanosquad, scientist Issac Neuron and shapeshifting Corona Jane.
The New Adventures of Nanoboy contains the following tropes:
- Anthropomorphized Anatomy: Issac Neuron is an anthropomorphic… neuron. Other anthropomorphic human cells show up from time to time as well.
- Been There, Shaped History: Issac Neuron apparently used to be one of the neurons in Albert Einstein’s brain, and was seemingly responsible for helping him invent the Theory Of Relativity.
- Incredible Shrinking Man: Oscar/Nanoboy shrinks to microscopic size to battle against microscopic villains.
- Magnetism Manipulation: Ferro, one of the recurring villains, has this as a power.
- Monstrous Germs: Most of the villains in the microcosmos are, naturally, these.
- The New Adventures: The show is titled The New Adventures of Nanoboy. Weirdly enough, it's not based on anything; the trope is usually applied to revivals of shows.
- Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: Loads. Specifically, there’s “Finding Neurons”, “Greenhouse Rock”, “The Good, The Bad, And The Spit”, “Czar Zar’s New Clothes”, “Bog To The Future”, “I Am Sheeba, Hear Me Roar", “Bend It Like Czar Zar”, “Finding Memo”, “The Czar And I”, “Bride Of Nanostein” and “A Tale Of Two Elasticities”.
- Species Surname: Issac Neuron’s name combines this with a pun on Issac Newton.
- The Smart Guy: Issac Neuron serves as this to the Nanoquad.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Corona Jane wears a suit that lets her shapeshift.
