Wikiquote Vandalism

Hello,

What exactly do we do about the IP here harassing us on Wikiquote? Thanks, Hummerrocket (talk) 18:10, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hummerrocket, you could request a global block. You can check out meta:Steward requests/Global#Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding for more info. Thanks! -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mind submitting a request for me? For some reason I am unable to edit the page you linked. Thanks! Hummerrocket (talk) 18:17, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hummerrocket, not a problem! I added the request. -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:20, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Revision Deletion request

Thanks for your request for Revision Deletion at ActBlue. The IP making those edits has been blocked for a month, but if they reappear and are disruptive, please ask at WP:RFPP for page protection. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:05, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Cwmhiraeth for the message. I'll keep an eye out on the article for any further disruptive edits. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:09, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Mlcastellanos

Mlcastellanos (talk) 13:28, 15 June 2020 (UTC) Hello LuK3, you responded to my third opinion request with, "Hello Mlcastellanos, I saw that you posted a third opinion request regarding an addition to Augmented reality#History. Unfortunately I had to decline your request because the issue has not been thoroughly discussed on the article talk page. If the discussion on the talk page comes to a standstill, you can then post a request over at Wikipedia:Third opinion#Active disagreements. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:09, 15 June 2020 (UTC)".[reply]

Maybe I'm not comprehending but isn't this what I did, which you responded to? If you'll note, the "editor" who deleted my addition had not responded to my multiple attempts to engage in a conversation! Thus as you put it, it hasn't been discussed.

On a side note, I'm really saddened with this platform. I've edited here for probably 10 years, and I've never encountered these unnecessary blocks.

Thank you for the message Mlcastellanos. I saw that you posted a note on GermanJoe's talk page and he advised you to discuss your addition to Talk:Augmented reality. You were also directed to the article talk page by RichardWeiss. Third opinions are only given if there was a discussion the article talk page beforehand (see Wikipedia:Third opinion#How to list a dispute), which you have not started yet. Please let me know if you have further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:39, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Alcohol70

Alcohol70 (talk) 13:57, 16 June 2020 (UTC) Good morning. He's been accused, not proven. Is that difamatory? In our country criminals are not shown in given sources until they are convicted.[reply]

Hello Alcohol70, thanks for the message. If there are no reliable sources for those accusations, they have to be removed from the article per WP:BLPRS. Those are very serious accusations and we can not leave them in the article without high-quality sources. Please let me know if you have any further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 14:03, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello LuK3,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Editing questions

You removed my edit about Wade Townsend because I did not add a citation. Forgive me because I am new to wikipedia and just wanted to make sure that his page was properly updated with his views. How do I add a citation for a facebook post? What I said was very true, I have an image that I can add of the post itself. I dont see any reason to exclude this information if it is fact. Thanks. Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 22:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymoushackerdude1912, thank you for the message. Unfortunately Facebook posts, and other self-published sources, are not suitable in biographies of living people. I would suggest finding a news story from a newspaper or news outlet. Please let me know if you have any further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 23:37, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Does a YouTube channel count as a valid self-published source if the YouTube channel is Mr. Townsend’s own channel? Thanks - Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 23:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymoushackerdude1912, self-published YouTube videos fall under self-published sources, see WP:BLPSPS. If you cannot find a reliable source that covered the incident then you will have to exclude it from the article until a reliable source does publish an article on it. -- LuK3 (Talk) 23:56, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay but the section about self published sources says that if the source is published by the person the article is about, then its okay. So I don’t really see an issue with using a YouTube video as a source if that video was published by Wade Townsend. Please advise. Thanks. - Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 00:14, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymoushackerdude1912, the issue is that your edit includes claims involving other people, see WP:BLPSELFPUB. Those are very serious allegations to add to an article. I would highly suggest finding a reliable source to verify the information or else it will get removed again. You can take a look at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources to view a list of what the community deems a reliable source. -- LuK3 (Talk) 00:58, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for June 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited James Gandolfini, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vanity Fair (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Game of Thrones

Hello:

Just a quick note to let you know the copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors has been completed.

I'll send you my notes/suggestions later today.

Game of Thrones Copy Edit

Hello:

Here are some notes I made as I went through the article of various areas you might want to look at before submitting it for FAC:

Cast and Characters

”In 2016, several actor contracts were again renegotiated, reportedly increasing the salary of five of the main cast members to $1 million per episode for the last two seasons, which would make them the highest paid actors on television.”

The citation does not support this. Only Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is mentioned and it is unclear whether his salary was a result of a second negotiation or the result of those that took place in 2014.

Adaptation schedule and episodes

”Eight seasons were ordered and filmed adapting the novels at a rate of about 48 seconds per page for the first three seasons.”

I hid “adapting the novels…” as this is a trivial and basically pointless exercise, I think.

Update sections Effect on locations and Directing – there is likely more current information following the 8th season

Visual effects – update?

”More than 300 visual effects artists had worked on the show by season eight.” – more after season seven?

Update Copyright infringement section – details only up to season 5

Viewership – details stop at 2013 – update section

There may be other areas you'll spot as you review the article.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best of luck with the article moving forward.

Twofingered Typist (talk) 18:43, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Twofingered Typist I appreciate you for taking the time to copyedit and reviewing the article. I will look into addressing your notes soon. Thank you! -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:58, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Basic math

It is hard for you, you want to call yourself logical, or smart or w.e, but the one thing built entirely of logic, you are incapable of. Call it truth, call it positive information. Overcoming denial starts with admitting it to yourself, not running away and saying I am mean to bring it to your attention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.198.76.125 (talk) 19:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what you are talking about because I was not the editor who reverted you over at Kenosha riot. I am, however, the editor who removed your inappropriate comment about another editor. Do not add personal attacks again or you will be blocked. -- LuK3 (Talk) 19:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Walter Lure

Please stop reverting me. As well as dealing with blatant vandalism, I am trying to correct the death date per the talk page, AND correct the formatting errors that your edits are introducing. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:50, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ghmyrtle, hello. Feel free to reintroduce the edits, looks like I mistakenly reverted too many edits. I would, however, put his date of death only as reported in reliable sources. This NME article said he died on August 22nd, not the 21st. -- LuK3 (Talk) 17:55, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point - I will point this out to the IP (nephew?) whose comment I have moved to the talk page. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:59, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ghmyrtle, not a problem. If the sources amend the date of death, the article can be updated appropriately. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:01, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies if I came across badly. That is essentially what I have said to the IP. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:05, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ghmyrtle, I'm sorry as well. I should of have paid more attention when I reverted. I also see one IP editor vandalizing the article. I'm going to withdraw my RFPP request. We can always re-report if it picks up. -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:08, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:05, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi, I've created an account since I'm 63 yrs old retired I felt I could contribute to Wikipedia, what work can I do here? Aden25 (talk) 13:16, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aden25, congratulations on creating an account. You can visit Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia to learn about the basics of editing and some suggestions on how to contribute constructively. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:21, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Luk3, I read that page thoroughly and I think that fixing vandalisim and keeping Wikipedia clean is the best way to start. Aden25 (talk) 13:34, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aden25, I would first off check out Wikipedia:Vandalism to see what is and is not considered vandalism. From there, Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy is a good resource to help new editors in identifying and removing vandalism. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:56, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I had some health issues over the past few days and was unable to edit, extremely sorry for that. Anyway, today I have done some counter vandalism work, I'll be grateful if you can me some feedback on my work. And about the academy you mentioned I saw most of the trainer's dosent have a free slot and the one who have is far away from my timezone. If you can pls give me some suggestions. Aden25 (talk) 08:46, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aden25, thank you for the message. Overall I think you are on the right track. One thing I note is that you are not warning editors after their disruptive edits. I generally start with level one warnings (general notes about disruptive editing) with escalating warnings after each instance of vandalism. Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to help. -- LuK3 (Talk) 11:35, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to warn users? Aden25 (talk) 18:09, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aden25, you can take a look at WP:WARNING which has a list of all of the user warnings. Level 1 is generally used for first warnings with Level 4 used for serious policy violations. -- LuK3 (Talk) 00:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Prosponsive Page

Hi Luk3, how do I remove/dispute my article "Prosponsive" for deletion? I have removed any sales language and would very much like to keep this page active. It has nothing wrong with it now and I really want to prevent it from being deleted.

Hello Timgriffin27 and thank you for your message. I find that the Help:My article got nominated for deletion! and Wikipedia:Introduction to deletion process pages to very useful in learning about the article deletion process and how to respond. Having said that, please do not remove the deletion template on the article. -- LuK3 (Talk) 14:05, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I see you have blocked the IP address at my school, which is 63.159.0.197 I would recommend blocking anonymous users on that IP forever. Also, my school has a second IP address, 63.159.0.198, which I used to make a few edits earlier today, but I recommend the same course of action for that IP. PhoenixSuns8-0 (talk) 03:49, 18 September 2020 (UTC)PhoenixSuns8-0[reply]

PhoenixSuns8-0, hello. IP address are not usually indefinitely blocked. I see 63.159.0.197 has been blocked for a year so hopefully that'll stop their disruptive edits for some time. As for 63.159.0.198, I do not see enough vandalism or disruptive edits to warrant a block. You can always report editors to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism if they are vandalizing. Please let me know if you have any questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 10:42, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing your name around the RC log and the ARV noticeboards, and keeping the vandals at bay! Thanks for cleaning the Wikipedia and keeping it clean! Good luck on the mop! Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 14:35, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey LuK3 - I'm jumping the gun a bit, but at 100% support with a couple of hours to run I don't think I'm taking too much of a risk of getting egg on my face - congratulations, welcome to the team, drop me a note if you ever want a second pair of eyes on something. Happy mopping when the time comes! GirthSummit (blether) 12:52, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • A not quite as early bird from me - I'm incommunicado for a few hours, but I wanted to drop my thanks here first. Congrats on a good run. Best of luck with your mop wielding! Nosebagbear (talk) 13:47, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Big congrats from me too! Will miss your posts at AIV but great to have you clearing the backlog with us. Well done! Glen (talk) 13:49, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • In addition to your crappy t-shirt, you also have some other bling you can take advantage of - User:MelanieN/Admin_bling is a good starting place. Welcome to the team! GeneralNotability (talk) 14:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats! I really thought this was a close one. Now time for admin indoctrination. Natureium (talk) 14:20, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi LuK3 and congratulations on passing RFA. I have closed your RFA as successful. It looks like you may not be newest admin for very long, possibly not long enough to make the tea as there is another on the way later today. When you get bored of scrabbling down the back of the sofa to find the right block message have a look at my Monobook - some kind soul put a really nifty script there that gives a useful dropdown menu. Once again, welcome. ϢereSpielChequers 14:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Congratulations on passing your RfA. All the best with the shiny new tools and buttons. —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 14:34, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Always a pleasure to have an RC patroller as an admin, good luck with your new tools. Cheers Megan☺️ Talk to the monster 14:53, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thank you everybody for the kind words and support, I truly appreciate it. Now to learn some new buttons carefully, thank you again! -- LuK3 (Talk) 15:09, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Congratulations! My only words of advice is that it is never a bad idea to ask for a second opinion if you are unsure about a decision or have a conflict. Even admins who've been doing the job for years and years do it in particular situations. It's how you learn...which never really ends. Good luck! Liz Read! Revision deletion

Hi, LuK3,

Please review Wikipedia:Revision deletion#Criteria for redaction. We try to limit revision deletion to copyrighted material and truly appalling or disruptive content. Elements like signatures or comment headers that have regular content do not need to be revision deleted. Even insults are borderline and are not usually revision deleted unless they are racist or incredibly vulgar. But you made the right call on Jimbo's page. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 19:37, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good for you, for trying out your new tools immediately. Keep it up, that's how you learn. When you are ready to do some page protection, you might want to read my essay User:MelanieN/Page protection. (I see that Kevin has already pointed you to the bling page. Oh, and General Notability did too. Gotta get that bling while it's still shiny.) -- MelanieN (talk) 20:04, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict × 2) Thank you for the message Liz and MelanieN, I appreciate it. I'm definitely going to start at slow and always get a second opinion or ask if I am unsure. Thank you again. -- LuK3 (Talk) 20:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked vandal

Hi there Luk3. I note that yesterday you removed talkpage access from an idiotic editor (or account). Good call. That said, I am perturbed by the visibility level of this lunacy in which I am directly insulted and would appreciate it being revdelled if possible. Thanks. --Coldtrack (talk) 18:04, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Coldtrack, apologies for the delay. I went ahead and revision deleted those edits. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. -- LuK3 (Talk) 20:24, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2A02:587:C447:7500:64C3:826D:1551:686F (talk) 21:17, 25 September 2020 (UTC) Could you please explain me which of my information was wrong? Why did you revert my changes?[reply]

You removed sourced information to add your own opinion, which is directly against Wikipedia's policy on original research and not adhering to a neutral point of view. -- LuK3 (Talk) 21:19, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sourced information? Since when propaganda is sourced information? I can give you too some sourced information which proves the exactly opposite. Would you like to read them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:587:C447:7500:64C3:826D:1551:686F (talk) 21:22, 25 September 2020 (UTC) Read these articles https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/moral-landscapes/201109/more-circumcision-myths-you-may-believe-hygiene-and-stds https://intaction.org/circumcised-vs-uncircumcised/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:587:C447:7500:64C3:826D:1551:686F (talk) 21:29, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
