Curiosity, Adventure, & Love

You removed the film poster from Jessie Lichauco. The poster is now at Curiosity, Adventure, & Love so you might wish to remove it from there also. Roberttherambler (talk) 18:12, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why am I going to remove the poster in that article? The fair use rationale is for that particular article (Curiosity, Adventure, & Love), and there is no valid rationale in place for its use for the film's lead (Jessie Lichauco). The poster is supposed to be in the film article because it is perfectly valid to use the non-free image of the poster (copyrighted by the distributor) for infobox purposes. It is unnecessary for the poster to be placed in the lead's article because the absence of the image isn't detrimental and is just there for aesthetic purposes. The claim that Lichauco appeared in the film already is already referenced. See WP:NFCI.
This is why you don't see movie posters in the articles of the better known actors (as well as movie lists) because fair use only limits the use of posters in infoboxes of movie articles.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 07:22, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation. I'm not a copyright lawyer. Roberttherambler (talk) 13:21, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm not one too either. Learned about this when I was start editing in Wikipedia.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 11:52, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

You need to read WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE, because an Infobox summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article. --Osplace 13:15, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is this about the club listing of Filipino volleyball players played for? What I just did is moved the club list to the infobox. There is nothing to summarize in cases where I removed the list, I believe. I didn't remove any info on the article body regarding the player's stints. (e.g. winning a title, transfer details, etc.)Hariboneagle927 (talk) 13:32, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For example, in the case of Cristina Salak, the Playing career section already mentions her playing for the Army Troopers. So why mention it again in a separate list of the clubs she played for? Imho it's redundant when the infobox can already serve as a summary for the clubs she played for.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 13:40, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, you mean that if the information is already in the Infobox why should it be anywhere else! And that is why we have WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Is not rebundant, is not by your own concept. Anything listed in the Infobox must be anywhere in the article, and referenced. Please stop removing the club list section. Thanks, --Osplace 13:57, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Horacio Castillo III hazing case and hazing in the Philippines

@Hariboneagle927: The hazing case causing the death of Horacio Castillo III is big news, but why cannot you catch up with that? Looks like that case may further cause the revision of the current Anti-Hazing Act of 1995 to criminalize fraternity/sorority hazing or initiation rites, especially those causing severe injury or death. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 10:48, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Too add this up, hazing in the Philippines is not even covered. If you can, please cover those, especially past notable cases and the law[s] that regulated it. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 10:53, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'll deal with these topics within the following few days.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 08:05, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927: It was already a week after the incident, but you haven't worked on it yet. Are someone having an article for Horacio's death already created, and hazing in the Philippines covered in the "Hazing" article? If someone is eager to add those, no problem, but you may still continue on improving it or if there is no development, you'll do.-14:57, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
I am gradually working on Hazing-related articles. Anti-Hazing Act of 1995 already exists, and also List of hazing deaths in the Philippines. (both can still be improved) I can't promise any sort of time-frame. But I will work with such type of articles on my own pace. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 05:00, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Right now I'm focusing on updating the dates, I'm not quite sure at what level you are looking at for the other notes. I would like to add something for Ferdinand Tabtab indicating that no one was convicted, but as you indicated in the article, the standard here is mostly what the news calls it, not any resulting convictions.Naraht (talk) 21:12, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As an additional comment, I'm an Alumnus of Alpha Phi Omega (USA) which is related to Alpha Phi Omega in the Philippines, so please let me know if you think I don't have a neutral POV on the article.Naraht (talk) 21:12, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the efforts of improving the list. For the notes, any other information regarding the incident can be mentioned there (historical significance, convictions, etc.). Hazing deaths are a particular topic of interest for the Philippine national media as part of a larger debate on hazing practices by fraternities in the country (even though fatal hazing rites may be committed by other organizations). This particular dark side of fraternities are widely known in the country (While I don't know how big is the hazing death issue in the US is). But so far, I don't see your edits as non-neutral.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:55, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So "7 QQQ Brothers charged with ..., 2 convicted" if available is fine. Hazing deaths are also a topic of interest in the USA, but the characteristics of the hazing tends to be different. For cultural reasons, hazing deaths in historically Caucasian Fraternities tends to be alcohol overdoses and hazing deaths among fraternities and sororities that are historically African American (and other traditionally non-Caucasian) tends to be somewhat closer to what happens in the Philippines. But as you can tell from the two Hazing articles that even though the USA is five times the size of Philippines, that if anything, the Philippines has more. I nuked the single source template as well, if anything, it may be better sourced than the USA article, but given that 2/3 of the deaths are post-1990 on the Philippines article, and less than 1/3 are post-1990 on the USA article, that isn't a surprise.Naraht (talk) 11:14, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
