Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Plpplp, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it will be removed shortly (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests, and consider using the Article Wizard. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Besides the nonsense title being problematic, this was a copy of Timeline of women's rights (other than voting). Please don't simply copy Wikipedia material into new articles.Template:Z43 Drmies (talk) 16:27, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't mean to create that page; I was just trying to copy some info for my own reading. It won't happen again. Maranjosie (talk) 16:29, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sure--problem is, you "break" the license when you do that: material copied inside Wikipedia needs to be properly attributed. If you're working on something you can do so in a WP:SANDBOX, though you should indicate in an edit summary where the stuff comes from--see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Good luck. Good to know. Thanks. Maranjosie (talk) 17:21, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for June 30

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Feminist movement in the United States, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 14th Amendment (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Recentism

I see that you're editing across a number of history articles. Please be aware of the problem of WP:Recentism; where recent events get more coverage than historical events. A number of the articles you have edited recently are imbalanced in this way. Stuartyeates (talk) 01:44, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. -220 of Borg 18:20, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Laverne Cox

Hi,

I'd like to thank you for your contributions, I see you add a lot to Wikipedia and I'm thankful for that.

I'd like to ask you, as you were the last to edit his page, is it accepted to call Lavern a woman on wikipedia, even though factually he is a man? I understand this might raise a long extensive argument, but I'd like to know if there's a easy answer to this. Please excuse my editing if its bad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OneArchetype (talkcontribs) 10:15, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Transgender women like Laverne Cox are referred to as women on Wikipedia, as you can see in other articles on transgender women (such as Wendy Carlos, Susan Stryker, etc.) Maranjosie (talk) 14:37, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FGM

Hi Maranjosie, this is just to let you know that I removed the addition of the London clinic from the FGM article. It's a one-day-a-month clinic in UCH that's being set up to test demand, so adding it (and details like it) would amount to a violation of UNDUE (part of the neutrality policy) for the article as a whole. I feel uneasy writing an article about the treatment of tens of millions of women in Africa, then having an overly focused section about the UK, so I've been removing that kind of detail.

I keep hoping someone will create Female genital mutilation in the UK, which would be a really interesting addition, given how much has been written about it. Best, SlimVirgin (talk) 18:30, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gender gap task force

We invite you to join the Gender Gap task force. There you can coordinate with editors who are discussing issues that affect the gender gap on Wikipedia, including editor interaction and gender bias in articles. If you would like to get involved, please sign up or visit the talk page.

Proposed deletion of Pilar Montero

The article Pilar Montero has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Being the owner of a bar that was a background in some films is not a sufficient claim to notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Adding references

Thanks for creating Muriel Petioni with plenty of references, but there are a couple of points to make:

  • Please use full references, not just web addresses: web content can change over time, and we need to be able to see what it was that you were citing. There are templates to help you to format a good refernce: please use them.
  • If you use one reference more than once, please give it a name and then re-use it: you can see how I've treated these refs.
  • We don't put a space between the punctuation and the tag - I've cleaned these up.
  • If you want to cite a book which is on Googlebooks, please treat it as a book, which happens to be on Google, rather than a web page. In other words, give its author, title, publisher, ISBN, and then link to the Googlebooks page. In this particular case you were citing the existence of her obit in the book, but you didn't tell us the page numbers (not available on Googlebooks, which only shows us that the book exists). On Amazon's "Look inside" I found the table of contents, which showed us her page numbers, and I also added the full details of the book.

There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey. Happy Editing! PamD 08:05, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues

Hi Maranjosie. Here's how you can create a page to replace the redirect at Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues: If you follow this link, you can see the redirect page. Click the edit button, and replace the text "#REDIRECT [[Caucuses of the United States Congress]] {{R with possibilities}} {{R from other name}}" with the text that you want to add. This will replace the redirect with your new page. I hope that's clear—if not, please let me know! —Granger (talk · contribs) 21:04, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues (2)

Hi Maranjosie, re: your note on the gender gap page, I can delete Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues if you want me to, so that it's a red link. However, there's no need to do it that way.

The normal way to do this is: click on the article link, which takes you to Caucuses of the United States Congress. If you look directly under that title, you'll see the words "(Redirected from Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues)," with "Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues" in blue. Click on that blue link, and it will take you to the redirect page. Once you're on the redirect page, click edit, and simply edit as normal (i.e. add your article).

Alternatively, you can get straight to the redirect page by clicking here, then edit as normal.

Let me know if that works for you. If not, I'll delete the title so that you have a red link to create. Thanks again, by the way, for creating Female genital mutilation in the UK. All the best, SlimVirgin (talk) 21:35, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please delete it so that it's a red link? Sorry to bother you, I just can't make it work otherwise. Thanks!Maranjosie (talk) 22:33, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll go ahead and do that this time (I may undelete the redirect after you've created the article, just to keep the edit history intact, but that won't affect your editing). Hope that works for you. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:48, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Brittany Maynard

Hi, thanks for creating the page on Brittany Maynard. It is indeed a very heartbreaking story and I hope that no one has to go through the suffering that she is now.

You may like to link this page to some relevant pages around Wikipedia, such as cancer-related and euthanasia-related articles, to make others aware that this page is active and that it's not orphaned (that is, very little or no pages linking to Brittany Maynard). By doing that you may get other editors to contribute significantly to the page that you created.

Any questions please do not hesitate to leave a comment on my talk page. Thanks, MasterMind5991 (talk) 08:21, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to WP. I notice that you are habitually and repeatedly making certain formatting errors. If you will check the edit histories of many articles you have recently contributed to, you will see that I have been following along, trying to correct these errors. I cannot continue to do so and would prefer to see you eliminate the need for it. I also notice that you are an Apprentice Editor (though qualified for the next rank) and still early on the learning curve.

  1. Per WP:REFPUNC, there should be no spaces preceding or between <ref>s. A <ref> immediately follows the punctuation.
  2. Per WP:BADDATEFORMAT, st, nd, rd, th, etc. are not used in dates (except when directly quoting).
  3. Duplicate references (reused sources) can be combined using "ref name", rather than be repeated. (You are doing too much work.) Examples of how this is done are found here and here, and discussion of the syntax at WP:REFNAME. Hertz1888 (talk) 00:41, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If you have any questions about adhering to the policies cited, please ask me. Problems 1 & 3, above, remain conspicuous in your latest article, Rosa María Hinojosa de Ballí. Hertz1888 (talk) 15:12, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
