Rating script

Hi Toobigtokale! Just to let you know that in Special:Diff/1193361435, the rating script you used seemed to change {{WikiProject Newspapers}} to {{WikiProject Journalism}}. I just thought I'd let you know, as the gadget's documentation page mentions that it hasn't been updated in a while, and so I wondered if the WikiProject change may have been a glitch resulting from this. All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 17:11, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you for pointing that out!
Hm yeah maybe I should stop using the script for now, even if it makes rating pages faster... It has a couple of issues besides just this. toobigtokale (talk) 17:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I haven't tried it that much myself, but (from what I understand), WP:RATER is the successor to that script (in case you're not already aware). Best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 17:17, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Installed it, thanks :) Just in case you're interested in the script, my thoughts on it: I had tried it previously and found it loaded noticeably slower than the older version. However given that the older one is actively harmful, it's worth using. toobigtokale (talk) 18:48, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 07:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, was my mistake. I hadn't spotted that part of the MOS before. I should have undone all of the mistaken moves that I was able to undo already, with a few left over in uncontroversial move requests. toobigtokale (talk) 07:16, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Toobigtokale,
Why are you taking on a huge article move project....and then you end up reverting all of your page moves? This is disrutive editing to move articles unnecessarily multiple times. Please think through an action like moving an aticle and asking yourself if it is actually necessary. Pages shouldn't be casually moved around, there should be a solid reason to retitle a page that doesn't end up with your changing your mind a few minutes later. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 07:18, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies again. I've made over 30k edits in my Wiki editing career so far and made hundreds of moves, and this is the first time I've made such a mistake. I understand the implication of it, and wish I had done some more research in advance. All I can do is apologize; I try hard to abide by policies and I'd like to think my edits are normally productive. toobigtokale (talk) 07:21, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

166.104.225.72 (talk) 02:25, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

166.104.225.72 (talk) 09:54, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I know close to zero about East Asia so for all I know you are doing a terrible job as a content creator but I do know about writing and sourcing and...damn your articles are so cool. I learn a lot just from glancing at them and I'm very grateful that you've chosen to volunteer some of your time here. So thank you and keep on keepin' on :) jengod (talk) 00:21, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nicolinas DYK nomination

Hi Toobigtokale,

Thank you for taking the time to review the article Nicolinas and providing your insights on it. Your feedback is appreciated as I aim to enhance the article's quality and accuracy. I respectfully acknowledge your concerns regarding the language used in the article. While I understand your perspective on the use of certain expressions, I believe they accurately reflect the vibrant nature of the subject matter, as depicted in the sources. The phrases you highlighted, such as "vibrant assembly" and "reimagined the nomenclature", are drawn directly from the sources available. These expressions are not embellishments but rather reflections of the cultural significance attributed to the Nicolinas festivities by the participants. Furthermore, I stand by the neutrality of the sources cited. While they may have been produced by individuals closely associated with the subject, they are presented in a manner consistent with the objective of documenting information rather than promoting the festivities to the rest of the world and such. In maintaining a neutral stance, it is crucial to represent the subject matter as accurately and authentically as possible.

I appreciate your feedback and respect your perspective on the matter. Should there be any additional concerns or suggestions for improvement, I am open to further discussion and collaboration, but I must say I disagree with the points you stated.

Thank you once again for your contribution to the review process.

V.B.Speranza (talk) 23:51, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for being responsive to the feedback.
I recommend you take a close read of WP:VOICE. Avoid stating opinions as facts. Usually, articles will contain information about the significant opinions that have been expressed about their subjects. However, these opinions should not be stated in Wikipedia's voice. Rather, they should be attributed in the text to particular sources, or where justified, described as widespread views, etc. Even if the opinion is published in a reliable source, it's still an opinion at the end of the day.
Again and to be clear, you're still allowed to write in these opinions. The only thing is that if wording comes directly from sources, it needs to be made clear that that's the case. You can write things like "People reportedly really enjoy x", but you can't say "x is fun or joyous". toobigtokale (talk) 23:59, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
English isn’t really my main language, maybe those details flew over my head. I’m currently taking a brake from Wikipedia, someone else has to do it for me, or, you’ll have to wait until I regain my patience to come back to this app.
Regardless, thank you once more for reviewing the article.
V.B.Speranza (talk) 17:20, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, I recommend you close the GA nomination for now. You can reopen once you've worked on the article again. toobigtokale (talk) 19:22, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think we live in a community that can solve the problems as well, I significantly improved the article, but other ones can clean up the article as I’m not the owner of it.
The nomination stays up until either someone cleans it up as you suggest or it fails and becomes just another regular article.
V.B.Speranza (talk) 21:04, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:GAN/I#N1, we've established there's issues that will take a notable amount of effort to clean, this isn't good or polite practice. It adds to the already long backlog of articles that need review. Also you'd be surprised at how long it takes for many articles to get fixed. The majority of my edits are on pages that haven't been adequately fixed for over a decade. I'll leave the decision up to you, but please try to understand where my feedback is coming from at the very least. toobigtokale (talk) 21:11, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Hometown Village

On 8 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hometown Village, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Hometown Village is a community of Sakhalin Koreans who were finally allowed to return to South Korea after the dissolution of the Soviet Union? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hometown Village. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hometown Village), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
