Yo Ho Ho

Notice

The article Sophia Tolstoy's rebuttal of her husband Leo's accusations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

content of the page as well as sources have been added to the page of Sophia Tolstaya. This page is now duplicative, the topic does not have sufficient notability in itself and the title of the page is misleading (because the response consists of two separate novellas, which need not be referred to as one item)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Tiff vs. png and jpg

Is tif the best file format for your uploads to Commons? See a discussion here and check your phone settings to see what options you have. Certainly, go for the highest resolution possible, but not so high that the files are difficult to use. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:48, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks... tried again (please check (setting prob.))... do I need to do them all again? Whispyhistory (talk) 15:10, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, you don't need to do them again. All the formats have their pros and cons. Tif is accepted but produces large files. JPG is much smaller but lossy. PNG seems like a good compromise, although I see most of my uploads are jpg. I need to look at it myself. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:49, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JPEG is fine for photos, but because of the lossy compression is not much use for line diagrams particularly where there is fine detail. Other than the issues with transparent images and the size thing, I've never really seen any disadvantage to TIFF compared to PNG, so I normally go for PNG unless it's a photo.
I can't make it to London tomorrow. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:52, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And after we arranged some rail disruption just to please you too, with all sorts of unusual detours along little-known branch lines. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:20, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Redrose64. Please clarify... so which one do I save as (jpg/png etc). Whispyhistory (talk) 01:41, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I use JPEG for a photo (my camera saves photos in JPEG format, most do), SVG for self-drawn vector drawings, PNG for everything else including screenshots. See Special:ListFiles/Redrose64 and c:Special:ListFiles/Redrose64.
So, Philafrenzy. was this your fault? Go fetch your JCB at once. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 08:26, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We thought you would enjoy it... There's nothing to talk about in a train journey that goes smoothly, not that that ever actually happens in this country. Philafrenzy (talk) 08:36, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we should be using jpg if we can avoid it, as some detail is lost permanently and more every time the image is re-saved. It's more suitable for images we are using on a temporary basis that don't matter very much (see here, which is not the case for anything here. But if the only option is tif or jpg, png not being available, then tif may be better after all. It would be worth Whispyhistory also checking the quality settings on their phone to ensure the best quality original is captured when taking the image as that could be a separate setting to the file format. Philafrenzy (talk) 08:48, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This page comes down in favour of PNG and against TIFF and says TIFF is only allowed "as a courtesy". Philafrenzy (talk) 09:18, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks... all crystal clear I think. Whispyhistory (talk) 01:25, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I note the native Paint in Windows and Paint.net (download confusingly not at paint.net) both support opening of TIFF files and saving as PNG and other formats. Philafrenzy (talk) 07:26, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Something that may interest you?

I noticed that you've done a lot of content work in regards to healthcare related topics. Quite awhile ago, I noticed that iron fortification was a redirect. There's not really any content about it at iron supplement even if it's somewhat related. I think it might be worth its own section (whether it's there, at food fortification, or its own article). If you're not interested, that's okay. I just figured I'd ask in case you were. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 23:58, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out @Clovermoss:. I'll keep the topic in mind and have a read on it. Whispyhistory (talk) 19:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ancestry

That link may be unique to you. Also its UK. Are you aware Ancestry is free here: https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/ Philafrenzy (talk) 09:38, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I didn't know. Whispyhistory (talk) 09:39, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I registered as a subscriber, either on co.uk or .com, and then clicked your link, would I see the same result? There was a reason I didn't link the url. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also page 2 from the results in the Wikipedia Library version doesn't work. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:44, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh..okay .. btw.. which is the parish church, Tooting? Whispyhistory (talk) 09:50, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It said exactly just that, but possibly St Nicholas, Tooting Graveney. BTW, one thing I really like about Ancestry is that you can view the scan of the original document which you can't at the Mormons or Find My Past. Did you know that you have probably been baptised into the Mormon faith as that was the original purpose of their geneological activities, to make more Mormons whether they agreed to it or not. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:08, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
More here and here. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:13, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
yes..agree, viewing the original document is very useful. I think I have walked past that church many times... would have taken a photo but done already. Good work Philafrenzy. Whispyhistory (talk) 17:51, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well we could always do with a few more and of the interior and any monuments... Philafrenzy (talk) 18:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
