EPA was established in 1970 to address environmental pollution concerns across the United States. Since its creation EPA has worked to achieve measurable improvements in environmental and human health quality and outcomes through sound science, state of the art research, monitoring, standard-setting and enforcement activities. The research funded and performed by EPA provides the foundation for the Agency’s decision-making and directly supports the safeguarding of human health and healthy sustainment of our ecosystems and environment.
