Jury trial for accused drug smuggler

A Dunedin man accused of smuggling drugs into New Zealand has been ordered to appear in the Dunedin District Court for trial by jury on November 13.

Nicholas Peter Heatley, 22, faces a life sentence for importing controlled A Class drug LSD into New Zealand.

He has pleaded not guilty to seven of nine charges against him, which include the importation of controlled drug MDMA, possession of a psychoactive substance with intent to supply, and possession of the controlled drug Ritalin for supply.

However, Heatley pleaded guilty to two separate cannabis charges – selling and supplying cannabis – when he appeared before Judge Phillips this morning.

The offending is alleged to have taken place on several dates between January and August this year.
