Damaged pot shipment leads to Washington Parish bust

FRANKLINTON, LA (WVUE) - The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force and U.S. Postal inspectors on Monday intercepted a shipment of pot addressed to someone in Angie, according to a WPSO spokesman

Investigators said the box, which was mailed from Los Angeles, was damaged in transit smelled like marijuana.

The two investigative teams took the box to Rayburn Correctional Center and put it in a room with two other cardboard boxes and a milk carton. A narcotics canine then was allowed access to the room and quickly focused in on the box with the illegal drugs.

The box was then returned to the post office, where agents waiting for the addressee to claim it. A woman arrived to pick up the package and left the post office in a truck occupied by another woman and a man. Officers converged on the truck and seized the box, which had about approximately five pounds of marijuana in sealed bags, four plastic bottles of marijuana and several packaged marijuana cookies, brownies and candy.

Mabel Lee Mingo, 47, who claimed the package, was booked into the in the Washington Parish Jail on charges of distribution of Schedule I drugs, distribution of Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of failure to appear in court. Whiel she was being booked, deputies said a crack pipe and a small piece of crack were found concealed in her bra. Her bond is set at $88,468.

Liza Michele Huber, 47, was booked into the Washington Parish Jail with distribution of Schedule I drugs and failure to appear. Her bond is set at $75,500.

Keith Kennedy, 44, was booked with distribution of Schedule I drugs and Failure to Appear. His bond is set at $76,000.
