CEDAR RAPIDS | A Cedar Falls man faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges he assisted in a drug ring that imported ecstasy from Europe.

Authorities said they found a package containing more than 100 grams of the drug, which is also known as MDMA and molly, from Belgium addressed to Benjamin Walker in April.

On Thursday, Walker, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute MDMA in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. Sentencing will be at a later date.

According to court records, the package of MDMA had been ordered by Adam Lawin, a 25-year-old Waterloo man, who used the Silk Road website to obtain drugs from overseas and distribute them locally. Lawin also used friends and acquaintances to pick up his shipments in exchange for cash or a share of the drugs, authorities said.

The package addressed to Walker was intercepted by customs agents in April 2013, court records state. Authorities allege Walker received seven or eight other packages --- each with about 125 grams of MDMA --- that were passed on to Lawin. Walker received 1 gram of MDMA for receiving the packages, and he sold the drug at $80 to $100 per gram, court records state.

Police found 1.38 kilograms of ecstasy pills while searching Lawin’s father’s home where he lived. Lawin pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this month.
