The nominating ballots are at the MidAmeriCon II website. They must be completed before the end of the month, so don't delay. I encourage everyone to fill out their nomination forms completely, as it was readily apparent last year that both Puppies and SJWs alike were lax about that.
What I choose to recommend is no one else's concern or responsibility, regardless of why I chose to recommend it. I will not entertain requests for removals from this list of recommendations, except on the grounds of ineligibility.

Just FYI. If you include quote marks in your ballot submissions, the code inserts a semi-colon after each one. Every time you update your ballot, it inserts another semi-colon after every quote mark, so if you click Submit Ballot after completing each section, like I did, pretty soon some of your entries will have a dozen semi-colons after each quote mark.
Seveneves must be in there for strategic purposes, I suffered through the whole thing and it was not worth it. Neal Stephenson has created more or less his own unique genre with masterpiece tomes of fiction, but it's like he decided to give in to the dark side of the spectrum and spend 900 pages trying to make us all care that the train is fine. (Billions of people just died. Whelp, spilled milk and all that. Now let's do a chapter telling me -exactly- how the doors on the spacecraft work)

Just in case you don't know, and if you don't have young daughters, you may not: the MLPFIM episode in question is basically a retelling of 1984 and Animal Farm in pony terms. It's really quite excellent.
I find it amusing that Black Gate is again recommended for best Fanzine. They either accept you putting them on the slate (that is not a slate) or they never win a Hugo.

Proposal: castaliahouse.com authors should maintain a SRBI rating (prounounced ssssRibbie) which will be kind of like a batting average, but where each book they write is ranked against Space Raptor Butt Invasion, 1 being the obviously impossible situation where they match it for literary greatness, 0 for throw away dreck like The Book of Feasts & Seasons, and then the average across all books is taken.
I would expect a .300 SRBI to be what most mortals could hope to achieve.
Call .200 the Scalzi line.

Maybe you're using "curly" typographer's quote marks (“”) rather than simple typewriter quote marks ("")? The latter are always safer to use over the 'Net, as they are part of the original ASCII code set, while curly quotes were coded much later, and HTML has trouble handling them (as well as other punctuation beyond the basics). I don't understand the details, but note that sometimes a simple punctuation character is replaced with a complex code that always ends with a semi-colon. Most word processors these days are set by default to produce curly quotes, so if you're preparing an Internet post or submission in, say, Word, you need to change that setting.

To spell it out:
If you purchase during the nomination period, then you are eligible to nominate five works per category, as well as vote for the Hugo Award winner, that year.
If you register during the voting period, then you are eligible to vote in that year's Hugo Award, and to nominate in the next year's process.
tl;dr, registering for Worldcon entitles you to take part in the next two cycles of the process.
Best Related Work is going to be a toughie. They're all very very VERY good.

It'd be more accurate to say that you always get to take part in one complete cycle of the awards process, which includes nomination and voting.
Otherwise, you have an awards cycle (nomination) where no awards are given out.

I was absolutely enthralled by Gunnerkrigg Court right up until I reached the point where the author erased over thirty chapters of a major character's character development for the sake of cheap virtue-signalling. Then I rage-quit. I might possibly go back at some point, because it was a really intriguing story, but that part made me mad, much madder than I would have thought. It was like Michelangelo dropping his pants and taking a dump on the David out of sheer contempt for his own work. I hereby condemn Tom Siddell to watch Revolutionary Girl Utena repeatedly until he learns how to do "surprise lesbianism" with a modicum of class and internal consistency. He can start by not giving the reader a finger-wagging lecture right after doing the reveal.

@73 Oh, my feelings exactly! I am still keeping up with the comic, but only because I feel the duty to finish the translation project that I started a few years back (y'know, when nobody would have suspected that the comic would undergo a SJW implosion eventually.) It is a bother, because this could have been an excellent and timeless series... until the author himself basically destroyed it for sake of appeasing the lesbian-hungry fans. Doing so to a character whose defining, fundamental trait was always "obsessed with boys" makes it doubly as atrociously stupid.
@71 A number of people seem not to realize this is an award for 1940 works. With this misconception in effect, the already quite small (I assume) number of Retro Hugo ballots will probably have quite a few invalid ones. Of course, all this means is that every nomination for Retro Hugos counts even more than the 2016 Hugos.

I.e. "Best Fan Writer" has a section for examples right next to who it is you're submitting.

SJWs faced almost exactly the same dilemma when "If You Were A Dinosaur, And I Was Your Lady" and "The Magic Rain That Falls On Liars, So It's A Perfect Time To Out Myself To My Family (spoiler alert)" were both on the ballot.
Based on the results of that previous election, I predict SRBI will win the title.

I know you probably meant to submit that episode of My Little Pony as a joke but it happens to be a fantastic episode. I thought of Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery' when I watched it. It's one of the best written episodes of that season and absolutely deserves a Hugo IMO. I just wish all this puppies nonsense hadn't tainted it. The people behind the show and the shows fans deserve better.
