TRNC = the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

[–][deleted] 79 points80 points  (13 children)

Fuck that country.

[–]neutralkushhotel 37 points38 points  (9 children)

It's not a country. That area of Cyprus was illegally invaded and seized by the Turkish Army in I believe the '70s.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Illegally invaded, lol. Well why didn't the police stop them, then?

[–]imrollin 17 points18 points  (6 children)

There is such thing as a legal invasion in international law

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (5 children)

They are all illegal if you ask the invaded country.

[–]neutralkushhotel 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Yes, that's why there are larger institutions that have been formed to regulate interactions between countries. You may not have heard of international law, but it's basically the only legitimate method we have of regulating geopolitical actions between countries.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

What comes to mind is the US Law stating that if an American were ever tried in the Hague the US reserves the right to strait up invade the Netherlands.

Also a Kissinger quote "The illegal we can do immediately, the unconstitutional will take a little time."

[–]neutralkushhotel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm not saying international laws are always followed, I'm just trying to explain how an invasion can be considered "illegal" in the international system.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then it is a matter of debate, I just find the nonsense of declaring whatever temporary rules established under a diplomatic alliance some sort of binding rule of law that transcends nations absurd.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha hahaha oh wait you're serious let me laugh even harder.

International law is nothing but the shroud of diplomacy. No sovereign nation cedes legal authority to it.

[–]EverythingFeels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come it was never taken back?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It's really nice though. Good place to get high. Beaches and castles... It's really easy to find hash actually, in Famagusta and Leukosia, at least. Too bad...

edit: it's not amazing hash so don't feel too bad. at least what i could find. but being right next to lebanon helps.

[–]The_Cure_941 82 points83 points  (2 children)

You need to get to the other Cyprus ASAP your school can wait, your life can't. You're in a de facto country only recognized by one third world country and if they wanted to they could miss you disappear and there would be no reprocussions. If you leave and they set a bounty on you or try to bring you back somehow they will most likely fail in the attempt. You need to make the smart move. Besides your college is on record and if you go to a new school you may be able to get a transfer

[–]GreenRainbowz 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. Literally nobody recognizes the TRNC aside from Turkey, and there are no extradition agreements with countries other than Turkey because the TRNC literally has no authority at all in the eyes of the rest of the world. Go somewhere else, see if some credits will transfer, never go to Turkey or the TRNC again. Honestly you've lost some money but that's all. No legal record if you dont want it

[–]norleck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was just starting to post this. Absolutely this!

[–]RalphWaldoNeverson 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Escape that fucking country.

[–]YoJoshua 114 points115 points  (36 children)

I'm really sorry you have to go threw this! Marijuana needs to be de-criminalized globally ASAP. Were fucking throwing intelligent people in jail, were ruining the lives of good non-abusive parents, were destroying the lives of people who are mentally ill and just need to have some sort of grasp on reality. But no, due to the fact that the government knows how good marijuana is, it can't be legal. I don't even know the whole political scene to this fucked up ordeal that we call "war on drugs". National legalization!

[–]6indy8 96 points97 points  (35 children)

importing illegal things, regardless of what, isn't really intelligent.

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (5 children)

Your life is not ruined. You fucked up, bad. I don't need to tell you that though.

If you end up getting time then buckle down and learn, read, get in shape if you can. I don't know how the prison system works in your country but you might be able to do courses.

It's not the end of the world, just a little glitch, a year isn't a very long time, hell I've wasted about 4 years in my life. Good luck

[–]Cypher_Diaz 31 points32 points  (3 children)

I'm not sure you quite understand. The laws in his country haven't been established yet because that country isn't really recognized as a country. Coming as a lurker of /r/DNM he's at the mercy of his government. We may never see this guy again.

[–]thechilipepper0 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He should honestly stop contributing to this and delete everything. All of this could be evidence. Unless he thinks that any trial will be a sham and it doesn't matter what he does now

[–]Cypher_Diaz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The trial will be a sham. The country he is in is pretty much a police state. The "friends" ratted him out to the feds and he's butt fucked.

[–]fodgerpodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hence why he should do his best to get the hell out while he is out on bail...

[–]one_seventy_five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third world country prison = Share a 5x5ft room with 75 other inmates, hole in the corner to shit in. Not to mention the other inmates may or may not be in there for something like murder/rape/other bad shit.

[–]baseballer197 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one here that thinks maybe you should hold off on putting this on here? Maybe I'm being paranoid but I'm curious.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (12 children)

As much as I want to say how sorry I am that you're going through this, and how much I hope the laws change so we can all have our freedom; this is the EXACT reason why I refuse to use these methods of buying, I would rather be dry than risk my freedom.

We are all aware of the trouble that these types of sites are going through at the moment, and the risks of getting weed in the fucking mail... I hope some people who are considering these alternatives can learn from your story, and make the decision not to use them.

[–]BJ2K 9 points10 points  (2 children)

If you're in the US, ordering it is EASILY the safest way to purchase as long as you encrypt everything.

There's no contest.

[–]spiderholmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. Buying from someone you grew up with is the safest way.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, so ordering it is easily the safest way to guarantee a prosecution.

[–]Anamorfico 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your life is NOT ruined. You seem to be a smart guy with high tolerance for risk. What you need is to earn money so you can survive. Work online. Be a freelancer. Try to move to a more moderate/liberal country.

Maybe you'll have to change your goals and dreams. Maybe it will be difficult to graduate and earn a diploma. But you DON'T NEED THOSE. If you are smart you can learn how to code and make more money by yourself than all your friends who graduated!

You don't need approval of anyone else but yourself.

[–]terrabadnZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for you bro, but has to be one of the stupidest fucking things I can ever imagine doing in a country like that.

[–]sanic123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who are dumb as bricks don't understand that drug criminalization actually causes crime. People like OP might just as well think "oh well, my future is ruined anyway, I might just make my living as a criminal from now on".

Tough shit, bro. Try to stay strong. Hope it turns out ok for you. Where do you live btw? I'd figure eastern europe, but I may be wrong.

EDIT: Seems I can't read, totally missed TRNC.

[–]civilian11214 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I am empathetic to you guys, but you knew the consequences and made the choice to tempt fate. Guys, don't fucking buy weed over the internet.

[–]BetweenTheCheeks -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

Why not buy it over the Internet? Only if you are certain you know the correct and safest procedure of course, then it's no riskier than buying off the street

[–]civilian11214 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Well, for one good reason, I'll refer you back to the story in the thread you commented in. Hey, do what you want, but be prepared to face serious repercussions if you are caught.

[–]tehgama95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a third world country, where apparently they don't have to wait until after you open the package to arrest you.

[–]BetweenTheCheeks 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sounds like he didn't cover his tracks properly to be honest, If he admits the bitcoin were linked to his account. Gotta launder your bitcoin before you do anything with them, or you're just asking to get caught

[–]civilian11214 1 point2 points  (1 child)

like I said, do as you will. Just not a very good idea.

[–]BetweenTheCheeks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! It's good enough for me :)

[–]shit_abyss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

ill put you in the worst position in a turkish prison- vinnie paz

[–]siderealdaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HELLO, other person on earth that listened to JMT and watches Trailer Park Boys. You've got a double barreled shit shotgun pointed right at your face.

[–]Benjammin172 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Get the best lawyer that you can, learn from your mistake, and dial back the drama. It's an awful situation, but you're way too young for your life to be ruined. Just remember in the future that the law is the law regardless of whether or not you disagree with it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lawyer won't help in a police state like he's in. He needs to run, no countries have extradition agreements with TRNC so if he can get out he's mostly safe. Don't risk a bullshit police trial

[–]ProstZumLeben 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Can you flee to another european country that won't extradite you back to that country?

[–]JdH-AU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geek Cyprus comes to mind

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Run run run run run run run. You're in an essentially imaginary country. Don't take risks with a bad trial and police government run now ask questions later, college can wait

[–]KidDynamite2 2 points3 points  (3 children)

dude, you need to leave the country. Delete this post. Stop talking about it, and just do it. Get on a boat. Fucking walk across the border. Just go. Right now.

[–]Terrahurts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, why the hell did you get it delivered to a post office under your own name and back accounts.

This isn't a oh no I am a victim this is a "I knowingly broke the law and was caught due to stupidity "

I really hope your lawyers can get out of the country, as I know they are really harsh on all narcotic charges over there.

If you haven't seen the movie Midnight Express I suggest you don't watch it as it may scare the living shite out of you.

[–]wENTtobuyweed 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Fuck your "friends". They ain't homies of they throwing you under the bus. Sorry about all this bud. It's hard but you can get through. Lots of hard work, by you can do it! I'm down to help you through anything so pm me if you wanna chat :) but forreal those guys are spineless assholes.

[–]FrostyNugs 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Bitcoins are scary and confusing

[–]BetweenTheCheeks 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Not really that confusing, takes a few hours to read up and learn all you need to know

[–]bidoh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

learn more then.

[–]swfl55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dont fuck with them

[–]Bidet_Named_Frodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. Shit definitely sucks but I'd say you just gotta focus on how you're gonna fix things. Don't give up.

[–]Done_Goofed_Again 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I feel for you, i was arrested here in the states and it wasnt a pleasant process by any means. Cant imagine what you are going through OP. Just remember, you are not a bad person. Peace be with with you and God Bless.

[–]aarongillis 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He's got the right idea about it

[–]Done_Goofed_Again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i just know how shitty of a place it is to be in your life. Everyone needs engourgment.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck in your future bro stay positive

[–]zetafy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make it out of this with no jail time, loose those friends.

[–]isactuallyspiderman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus...

[–]YetAnother_WhiteGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely sorry to say that I'm too high to handle this kind of sadness so I couldn't even finish reading. Not that I have any knowledge that would help you out anyway. All I can say is my prayers are with you (figuratively, I haven't prayed since I was a kid) and I sincerely hope you and your friends will be alright. Now I'm going to selfishly exit this thread before my mellow is permanently harshed.

[–]YoungToke 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I heard Cyprus is the toughest country in terms of weed. Police will literally beat the shit out of you over it

[–]Bertojones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that already happened.

[–]Butters_Thats_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

weed doesnt ruin lives, law enforcement enforcing archaic laws ruins lives. Its the same exact shit with gay rights too, fuck police.

[–]captainmelatonin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This too shall pass. Life doesn't end because of an unexpected circumstance. Just take your chances and start again once you've weathered the storm.

[–]michaelscott33 1 point2 points  (1 child)

that jackass with the top story today 'how smoking ruined my life' has a sorry ass explanation for what 'ruined' really is. Damn dude, I really hope everything turns out well, if not best. That must really be hard times. I also plan on getting a BSc. and also am a frient. I wish you the best through these difficult times :(

[–]Malacath_420 7 points8 points  (5 children)

You fucked up.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Wow, you're getting downvoted too.

Let's fix this.

"Trying to smuggle drugs is a TERRIFIC idea. You got caught because the world sucks."

[–]f0urk 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I think he gets that he fucked up. Do you two have aspergers, because that's the only thing I could think of to justify this level of lack of empathy. Fuck both of you.

[–]BJ2K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should see the comments when someone posts about a dealer getting busted. Tons of people say that they deserve it, etc...

No respect...

[–]Crk416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry bud, not that I don't feel bad for you but it was pretty fucking stupid to try to import drugs into a third world country where they are a serious offense. I love pot but I don't love it that much.

[–]DennisReynoldsAMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking Turks.

[–]popsontops_yo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yep, come lived with us civilized people in WA, USA

[–]joeturn007 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I used to live in the kktc ( Turkish name for trnc) about 4 months ago (I am English). My old English teacher got caught growing in his basement up in the beautiful hills of belapais. He was sentenced to 2 years in jail and his journey through court was hard. I have always found weed quite easy to find in the kktc but never knew if it was real or fake. I feel for you because I know first hand, what the Turkish police can be like. I hope that you get your degree and that you do get passed this stage in your life. Just a quick question what uni do you go to?

[–]bombchron 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heartbreaking situation I feel terrible for you. Could you not have gotten your hands on some high quality afghani/paki or moroccan hashish through a friend? Hoping it turns out ok.

[–]YouMcFuckedup 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Any idea how you they caught you? Im trying to make sense of it as it seems you would have been in the clear if you all would of had your story together, right? Also what are the charge(s) against you?

[–]yepitsaent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jump on a cargo ship thats coming to the USA and then boom. We are now accepting immigrants.

[–]JdH-AU 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hoe about trying to flee to Greek Cyprus? No way are they gonna extradite you back to their arch enemy Turkish Cyprus. Play the political lines man.

[–]aarongillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn bro... I got caught with it in my pocket and I was beating myself up about it. I hate it for you bro, I just can't believe they're giving that harsh a sentence for some pot... Gahh that's a stiff ass charge to be having... You're smart to lawyer up too just sucks you told them anything at all. They shouldn't of been bothering you though if you asked for a lawyer... If he's not preset after you demand a attorney they're not supposed to be questioning you...

[–]omegaclick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out if your completed school credits will be accepted at another University, obviously in another country that won't extradite. Then get the hell out of there, if not suck it up, do the year (1 year is not really that long, you can use the time to work out or increase language skills). Stay positive, you didn't kill anybody this isn't as bad as you think. 10 years from now you'll have a great story to tell.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably get murdered in whatever jail they throw you in, run while you still can and let those pieces of shit that turned on you get murdered in that shitty piss soaked, disease infested jail.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so shitty that I'm about to go roll a J with great weed I picked up via a 5 min walk from my house.

Life really isn't fair is it?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear this story. The punishment does not fit the crime, but what the fuck were you thinking? You must have known the consequences, why chance it?

[–]methamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the original post if anyone was wondering what this guy's talking about.

[–]swolingstoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry dude, I thought bribes work in all 3rd world countries. Really crazy mistake. It's all done now, just hope you manage.

I have definitely learned from you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I actually just teared up a tiny bit. Stories like this hit me hard. I don't think people realize how fucked up this is

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

This is why I don't butyl drugs from the internet

[–]OldHippie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Amyl rite?

[–]BetweenTheCheeks 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Because you don't know how to do it? It's no riskier than buying on the street

[–]Bad_Advice_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the risk is the same, but in terms of law the stakes are much higher for importing drugs.

[–]Agatha_Vanguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for what happened to you. I really hate how this drug is so illegal. Sure it isn't some miracle cure to every ailment, but goddamned, it isn't the fucking drug that lawmakers think it is either.

[–]WindowsDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your life isn't ruined dude, it's just altered. Don't let it control you, control it.

[–]-ATLien- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

geez, just ask anyone you see with a Phish shirt and you have your source of weed lol!

[–]TheRealGoodman 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You get no sympathy from me but I will say that it is not the end of the world. It REALLY sucks but you'll get through it if you manage to keep a positive outlook

[–]chiliman411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you go to a country that has a star and cresent on its flag if you want to do anything enjoyable like smoking weed?

Also, everything here is synthetic cannabinoids.

Are you saying that fake weed is all that is available on the streets, or that is what you ordered through the mail?

Almost no food, no water, no hygiene.

yeah, there is no reason to be treated that way. I would get the fuck out while you still can. The international community does not even recognize that government, because that part of the island was overthrown by a coup d'état. And the Greeks hate the turkish government, they wouldn't send you back if you find a way to escape.

[–]Szos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ha ha.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

That's wrong. Funny part is that I can guarantee those in power are dealing and using.

[–]BetweenTheCheeks 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You can guarantee that?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Dude consider who the government is. Yes.

[–]BetweenTheCheeks 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The Turkish government of cyprus are known to be weed dealers? I'm not following here

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said they were known. I'm saying that just about any government deals shit between each other under the guise of something else. In short. Never trust the motherfuckers.

[–]vapedragon -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Did you use the silk road ?

[–]muzog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silk road hasn't been around for a while. And no one with half a brain would attempt to use SR2

[–]LoneKharnivore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

breaks law

no common sense

gets caught

blames everyone but him/herself

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

That was so incredibly stupid. Risking all of this just to smoke some weed.. I understand that you made an awful mistake that you horribly regret now, but you did make that mistake and now YOU have to own up to it. I really hope it gets better for you, but youve got to live up to the consequences of your actions and not blame others. I spent a few days in jail for selling weed here in the states and a full year battling in court. But no, I don't blame the kids that ratted me out. These were my decisions and my actions and now they are my consequences.
