Man, I love that artist.

I always assumed it was just because Mrs. Cake was sleeping around.

[–]yay855Twilight Sparkle[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The cakes are shown to have a very happy couple, and I highly doubt the missus would sleep around unless she was either unhappy with her husband or had express permission from him.

How can you say confidently that they're perfectly happy when we've seen so little of them?

[–]yay855Twilight Sparkle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, of the few times we have seen them, they are perfectly in sync. They might not show off their love for each other like we saw Big Mac and Cheerilee do in the love poison incident, but that's because they are a married couple, now with two children, and married couples that have happily been together for a long time will synchronize their thoughts and actions.

For example, when the Cakes were about to leave for a convention during 'Mystery Express', they quickly covered each others' bases, making sure that they didn't forget anything and happily, albeit while stressed, reminding each other of what they forgot. That's something a happily married couple might do.

Would explain why Mrs Cake never appeared pregnant. Nice theory.

Thank you, but you spelled 'theory' wrong; sorry, i'm just particular about grammar.

[–]TheKnackermanSugar Belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be offensive, but how would you be able to tell? Mrs. Cake has a rather robust build as it is, and I don't believe there has been an example of a pregnant pony in the show. Ponies may just not 'show' until closer to the time of delivery.

It's a nice theory, but it's missing something important. They're not nervous about anything. The whole idea that Mr. Cake was making some kind of excuse is a fan invention. He was just confused and didn't know if he was making sense. That's it.

[–]yay855Twilight Sparkle[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That's possibly it, and it's certainly an explanation, but why would mister cake be so nervous about the species of his children when explaining it to those who are literally physical incarnations of friendship, one of which is also a living lie detector? He could literally just have himself and his wife say 'these children are our genetic offspring' to applejack, who would be able to tell if it was true.

[–]suddenly_ponies 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I didn't see him as nervous at all. He's just tired and rambling and realized it.

[–]yay855Twilight Sparkle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also a distinct possibility; first-time parents can be easily overwhelmed, especially with twins.

[–]smapple 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well he does say something like, "That makes sense right?" Might give off a nervous vibe, or at least unsure.

[–]suddenly_ponies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. He realized he was rambling.

I do think it was a joke for any adults who might've been watching. That scene is open to interpretation.

[–]suddenly_ponies 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I understand that it's possible, but it seems too indistinct. Most adult jokes are very clear. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that I find it highly unlikely. Even if they make a joke, what are the realistic odds that it would be about infidelity? That seems very unlikely.

[–]TheKnackermanSugar Belle 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I find it very unlikely that they would reference a movie like the Big Lebowski (where a woman swings naked from a bungee harness to make a work of art and several people are mutilated/murdered) but that happened in Cutie Pox. Don't underestimate the kind of jokes they expect to go over pre-teen girls heads.

[–]suddenly_ponies 0 points1 point  (5 children)

THey didn't lampoon that scene though. Just because those things are IN that movie doesn't mean that ANY reference to the movie is raunchy. If they had someone in netting and fuzzy curly hair in the background, does that mean that they've lampooned the homosexuality and raunchiness of Rocky Horror Picture Show or is it nothing but a tiny nod to something adults would recognize?

[–]TheKnackermanSugar Belle 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm not sure I see where you're refuting it being a reference anymore. It is a tiny nod, a light hearted joke. I'm not saying it's meant to be anything but a bit of an inside joke for adults and a non sequester for children. Now the elevator blood scene from the Shining being referenced in the more recent episode is close to going a little far. Can't wait to see the D minor versions of that scene on youtube.

[–]suddenly_ponies 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I was saying it was unlikely that they were making an adult reference. You suggested that because Lewboski is an adult show, they've done it before. I said that referencing a movie is different than referencing an adult topic directly.

I didn't know about the shining reference. Was it really spewing blood. If so, that would definitely prove me wrong.

[–]TheKnackermanSugar Belle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Obviously there was no blood in show, only Smooze, but the scene being a reference is emphasized by a little Danny Torrance look alike colt so there's no doubt about their intentions there.

They can be making a reference or a joke without it being canon. I'm not saying Mrs. Cake was unfaithful anymore than there's a Jack Torrence pony running around with a croquet mallet. It's just a joke, meant for those who can spot it.

[–]suddenly_ponies 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's what I meant. That I haven't seen the shining, but if that was a reference to something that specifically violent, then I suppose they could have made an joke about being unfaithful.

[–]TheKnackermanSugar Belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well, then we are in agreement then! And you should see The Shining, at least the Kubrick version. It's much more dramatic and disturbing than outright gory, and quite enjoyable as a result.
