Yep, that's all way dodgy for me. I'd love to get sheets in the mail, but no thank you, Silk Road.

I may be in the minority but I really don't think this information should be made this available. It's true, many people know of it, but it still takes a little time to find which many people are not willing to invest. It's a little buffer of privacy.

I just feel like shit will hit the fan if it gets too big and it looks like the population is about to explode. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong but we will certainly soon find out.

It has been on reddit couple of times already, and after the gawker article it was really in the open, in numerous web sites etc. It's just laughable at this point to think that Silk Road is some "insider" thing.

In fact, I think Silk Road has never been an "underground" site to start with. When it opened, Silk Road guy advertised it openly in the bitcoin forums, and even setup a gateway site so that people could get on the site easily.

For some reasons some guys still try to keep Silk Road secret, which it has never really been. I guess those guys want to keep other people from buying their drugs, lol.

I see what you're saying but I think you're confusing "public" with "lots of attention"

The more people talk about these things publicly the sooner someone figures out a way to shut them down.

If you care about drugs, keep this stuff quiet please

If it succeeds then there'll be quite a few other copy cat sites. It'll be cool to see them compete against each other...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

There's already one similar alternative, as far as I know.

[–]quzox 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sounds cool, what's the name?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Blackmarket something, I can't really remember. I know it's on tor

[–]gwern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BlackMarket. One SR seller discusses and links it in a comment, but said he stopped using it because no one was there compared to SR: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/inrbo/iama_seller_on_the_illegal_anonymous_marketplace/c25bb3s

I know of 7 others on the tor network. A couple on other "darknet" protocols and then a couple private forums. Am I going to discuss them or name them? fuck no, because the more attention these get, the worse off everyone on them is.

[–]lovebeer 1 point2 points  (6 children)

So what I want to ask, is SR legit then?

[–]Mc_Zee 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Yup, i've used it for ages. As long as you've got your wits about you it's legit.

See also: discussion over in r/Bitcoin (submitted by article author) - consensus there seems to be that this is an excellent article (I agree).

Sorry, wasn't much space left to mention x-post. It's not a bad walkthrough of how to get set up, I don't think it's claiming to be an advanced guide.

I'd like to emphasize that the gawker publicity rush made things worse for SR, not better, and yet you guys are still blatantly pushing it on every news venue you can.

[–]JackSparr0w 6 points7 points  (0 children)

could you talk more about this?

[–]TheUKLibertarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did it make things worse out of interest?

[–]Tylerharris101 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Fuck I wish this wasn't on Reddit... By posting this here it gives access to many more people that could ruin it for the rest of us.

[–]fuckdapopo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How do you think it will get ruined? I'm sure the cops are already working on busting it so more people using it won't make much difference as far as I can tell?

[–]andash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah half the point IMO is that it really doesn't matter how public this is. It's still heavily encrypted stuff, from the site to the method of paying and they can't really shut anything down or bust anyone.

The exception would be DEA/Police acting as a seller on the site I guess, which is illegal pretty much everywhere outside of the US AFAIK.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (9 children)

Seriously reddit this is a big fucking no no. Stop posting vendors on public forums! The only time you give this message out is to someone you have been in contact with and trust for quite a while, through PRIVATE MESSAGE!

Jesus Christ this is actually pissing me off. How could a drug forum break one major rule of drug forums.

[–]zunk 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Lol. Are you talking about SR? Haha. They've even been indexed by google in their infancy (when they were both tor and not-tor http://silkroadmarket.org/) I mean. Come on. They are as public as they will ever get. Probably the second most visited tor site (Hidden wiki being the first? :O An other spoiler for the unitiated!!) <- The last statement is pure guesswork

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that doesn't excuse posting them on public sites.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

sigh

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Take this shit down. Go fucking damn it.

[–]microderp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everyone - downvote this now.
