All I read are horror stories, but the benefits look damn appealing on paper.
I’ve got both synapsa and bacognize but I’m afraid to pull the trigger. Someone convince me otherwise
Also, if you can please answer these questions also.
What brand?
Dosage?
Time of day it is taken?
With food or on empty stomach?
How did you measure improvements in memory?
How long did you have to take it to notice improvements?
Also, if you didn't see any improvements please share about that too?
I've been taking bacopa (300 mg 45% bacosides whole plant Bacognize) every day for about 3 weeks now. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my memory and cognition even this early on. However, I may have to stop due to the side effects.
Every night since I started taking it I've had to get up to use the bathroom at almost the exact same time each night. I've tried restricting my water several hours before bed, but no matter how much I drink, I still have the longest pee of my life every morning between 4:45 and 5:30 am. I have heard bacopa increases diarrhea in some people (which I have also noticed) so I figure this is related to that (increased fluid excretion).
Has anyone found a way around this? If I can't get a full night's sleep, I'm going to have to stop taking it because any cognitive gains I have will surely be offset by continual low sleep quality.
Edit: Well it seems my issue is not related to bacopa because I have been off it for a few days and still have this issue. So I made a doctor's appointment for Monday. We'll see what they say. Thank all for the dialogue.
I had a bottle of bacopa monnieri from Nootropics Depot lying around for a while and finally started taking it.
At first, I didn't notice it was making me procrastinate/avoid work more, because I have procrastination problems in general. I also didn't even know it was a common side effect with monnieri.
When I read about it, after already taking for a couple weeks, I started paying attention more. Eventually stopped taking it for a couple days and was suddenly getting more work done AND studying more (I'm learning a new language). At first, I was thinking, "eh, it could be something else", but the more days that pass, the more convinced I am.
In short, I'm going to stop taking it permanently. However, I'd still like to improve my memory.
So, my question is, has anyone effectively made the jump from monnieri to synapsa and effectively eliminated the negative side effects?
I know that's the theory, but I'm curious if it has worked in practice for many people. Or was it more of the same?
tl;dr I want to hear experiences from people who had negative effects from bacopa monnieri and switched to synapsa.
Edit: Thanks for all the feedback so far everyone!
I am extremely interested in taking bacopa monnieri to help with memory. My memory has always been awful, and I fear my marijuana use may affect it as well. I often find myself coming to realizations about my self and things that I need to change, only to remember I came to the same realization months before but simply forgot.
I've seen some research and user reports of bacopa affecting motivation and making people lethargic, which are both things I already struggle with and really do not want to have happen. I'm curious what people here think about bacopa, and if these motivational effects are common.
Would it be worth a trial run? Do these motivational effects come before any tangible effects on memory?
in the first day, I got brain fog from it
in the second day I also got brain fog from it
in the third day, I didn't get anymore brain fog from it but was less forgetful where I put my things ( I have adhd )
in the fourth day I didn't notice nothing expect the fact that I was less forgetful
in the 5th day I noticed an improvement in memory not the one you're expecting, I am simplify able to recall long code easily, didn't notice an improvement in long term memory. but that's only five days. I believe I got this improvement because it increases blood flow to the brain and clears the brain from prions and amyloid beta.
for example just by looking at this code I managed to recall it in less than 15 second
the code is: MsgBox(TextBox1.Text.count(function(x) char.isletter(x) = true ))
usually I cannot remember a way shorter code than this, I believe it is because I don't receive enough blood to the brain.
What do you think guys, sorry for my English, It might be a placebo but there must be a reason why I expected the most benefit from increased blood flow in the third day and got nothing expect being less forgetful
I just started taking ashwagandha (500mg/day) after a good amount of research into it. The anxiety reduction alone is amazing, especially paired with Bacopa Monnieri, but the noted effects on power output seem too good to be true. I'm pretty big into lifting so this would be great. I know of three studies on this relation and while one was a double-blind placebo, I wanted to know if any of you had a sizable increase in strength gains after starting ashwagandha?
Thank you guys!
I've been taking Synapsa for about 2 months. I'm sure my expectations were too high to begin with, but I can't say I've noticed improvement in my memory. I take a lot of vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as some racetams, but I've not heard of anything sabotaging the benefits of bacopa except cannabis.
People who responded well: how long did it take, and how would you characterize the improvement? What substances should be avoided and what might be helpful?
Well guys I don't know what to make out of it, but felt the need to share my experience so far.
I've been on bacopa for about one month, 1 ND synapsa pill a day, and even though I managed to observe improvements in longterm memory and word recall, the lethargy and tiredness, specially while waking up are killing me.
I am someone who wakes up and gets on with his day momentarily, but with bacopa I find my self waking up then sleeping in for another 2 hours or more, a day could pass by without me doing anything or just watching youtube and procrastinating.
I'm getting some bpc-157 within 2-3 days, and cerebrolysin in 2 weeks approximately so getting off might be a good idea regardless, still going to miss synapsa, it was one of rare nootropics that actually worked for me.
I tried bacognize and synapsa, both in tiny portions. The anxiety makes it unbearable to me, I'm a totally different person. There's pluses as well which makes it quite hard to admit defeat. Grasping at the last straw here, anyone has an idea what I can do? Thanks in advance
I just started 350mg bacopa monnieri capsules from yesterday. And since then I'm almost constantly feeling like taking a poop. I've read bacopa increases bowel movement as a side effect. Should I stop? And/Or Try with a lower 250mg dose?
Also Im feeling a mild head ache as well which I think might be connected.
Hi guys, I am excited about the potential memory benifits of Bacopa monnieri but if it makes me completely demotivated then there isn't much point. What do you guys think, is it worth trying? Trawling through the reddit threads has left me with mixed results.
Thanks!
Skip to the very bottom to get right to it. Yo, yo. Years and years of experimenting with different supps and noots, I’m finally just going back to the (mostly) basics: magnesium taurate, probiotic, good multi, lutein, BSO, and last but not least, bacopa! I am using Himilaya brand.
So I hear talk about how it’s good for memory, great because my memory is just terrible. I attribute this to depression and anxiety, possibly some rec. drug usage I’m not proud of but I’m human.
My questions: have you noticed any other benefits besides memory? Notice any benefit to skin/hair when taken internally? Ever deal with the dreaded demotivation that users report? Lastly, and this one is important to me, did you notice any affect on your libido? Black seed oil lowers my libido tremendously but it helps considerably with the stress related hair loss I’ve been experiencing so I continue to take it. Any experiences you guys have had with it are appreciated.
My friend started to consume Bacopa, and after some use he reported his aphantasia was gone... is there any science behind it? Also, told me that it makes him low motivated, so he doesn't use it everyday. But the aphantasia thing solved sounded good to me to see if someone has experienced it, or could explain why this happen.
I take Nootropics Depot Synapsa Bacopa - THey say on their sight (Nootropics Depot) that synapsa is so much better
I took bacopa for 4 years due to memory problems and it was helping a lot. I stopped taking it 6 months ago when I found out on here that most brands have lead/heavy metals in them. But I miss how much of a better person I was on it and I feel like I need it to function normally.
Are there any legitimately tested companies that show a 0 or negligible lead/heavy metal content?
Has anyone taken Bacopa and what do you think?
Also, I was looking for a good source for Bacopa without heavy metal and found Gaia Herb. They claimed that they grew herbs in the US. https://www.gaiaherbs.com/pages/meet-your-herbs-results?id=A68060-1#full-results
In their testing certificate, it says
I don't understand the specification, does it mean it doesn't contain heavy metals?
I'm wondering if bacopa effectivly reduce physical traits of anxiety or stress ? I bought synsapsa but there is not that much study on it beside on healty elderly (~10% reduc in anxiety, but they are healthy so..)
I know it can be quite demotivating. I don't really care. Ashwagandha don't fit me well so i'm looking for other de-stressor.
What's your experience with it guys ?
What are the differences between them? Can one say that standardised version are simply better than 'normal' extract?
I know topic seems trivial but i didn't find anything about it in the sub, and information on the web seems blunt, and I want to hear some subjective opinions.
I had some good effects with bacopa extract but then I heard about heavy metals and I want to get proper package from nootropics depot, and I wonder if I should just go for extract if I know it has worked for me in the past - may synapsa turn out to be even better?
Hello,
I was wondering the following. Most studies on Bacopa use the Synapsa variant and state a dose of ~300mg with 50-55% bacosides.
Now, considering that that bacoside percentage is derived NOT through the accurate HPLC measurement but through UV-spectrophotometry, one can easily demonstrate that e.g Synapsa is, in fact, NOT 50-55% Bacosides but more like ~8% (for an example, see here).
Due to this, if one were to buy a product that claims 50% bacosides by HPLC, would it be reasonable to lower the bacopa recommended dosage by 5 times? So, instead of 300mg used in studies, the HPLC-measured variant would only be 60mg.
A second question I have is this: considering it's the same herb, how is it possible that some people have experienced problems with the non-Synapsa version of Bacopa? What could the Synapsa version have that the "generic" bacopa doesn't that could cause different reactions in the same person?
I had the worst of stomach pains in my life, exaggerating. But seriously, first day I couldn't sleep all night. Kept throwing up. I thought it was the food. Days after, I take a bacopa pill and the same experience. Didnt even get to experience the positive effects :/ has this happened to you?
I recently stopped taking Rhodiola every day and started using it every other day. Why? Because I was having disrupted sleep. Immediately after stopping it I had good sleep again. Previously, using it only occasionally or 2-3 days in a row, I never experienced this.
Another thing that I found out: after a couple of days of no use, the usual side effects of Bacopa started to appear. I was feeling great before and noticed a slight increase in memory. Using Rhodiola is kinda helpful now but not as good as using it every day, I still feel demotivated and unfocused. This could also be a coincidence: I stopped taking Rhodiola after 1 month of Bacopa use. Bacopa is Bacognize 400 mg ??% (from local pharmacy).
I really really enjoy Rhodiola so maybe I'll try stopping Bacopa and starting to use again Rhodiola but just every other day.
So, been taking Bacopa Monnieri for over 13 weeks now, just thought I'd report the effects.
First of, I didn't take the Bacopa by itself, I took it with 2000IUs of vitamin D3.
The Bacopa I took is from Mind Nutrition, the ones with 250mg of Bacopa with 50% bacosides.
I've been basically taking them everyday, there was at one point where I had to stop taking it for a couple of days because of some seriously bad diarrhea, but that wasn't because of the Bacopa, I happened to have drunken some frozen latte coffee, and later noticed a puncture in the carton, so it must have been contaminated or something, after the episode I went back to taking Bacopa and was fine.
The effects aren't super, but I do seem to be able to remember things a bit better/faster, especially if I learned them during my Bacopa intake period, so I think it does improve memory. However, it doesn't seem to improve learning, just recall.
I haven't experienced any side effects, first couple of weeks I thought it was lowering my libido, but then a week later it went back to normal.
