There is nothing greater than harmony.Everything comes to a perfect arrangement with it. The universe is perfect.It is the master of All Things.It comes to be the master of Everything.There is nothing that the universe doesn't do. Everything responds to it.But nothing comes without using it.You can't live without it.The ability to use something is its purpose.The ability to not use something is its source.The ability to use it without using it is its purpose.The ability to not use it is its source.The ability to use it without using it is its end.This is how the universe works.Those who understand it tend to abide in harmony with the universe.Those who do not abide in harmony with it.Are misguided and lose the purpose of their life.A skilled healer stays with the sage's wisdom.If a man is wise,he doesn't have to come to anyone's aid.He lets the man be himself.He doesn't have to help him.He lets him be himself.The sage ends his life in peace.He keeps to the eternal knowledge of the universe.She doesn't seek favors or benefit from anyone.She prefers people's trust.And doesn't let anything interfere.She knows that no one ever knows what is best.And so she is able to maintain true harmony with all things.

The perfect value flows effortlessly
like flowing waters;
it gives rise to everything,
it is the abode of everything,

It is beyond form and without boundary
to everything that it holds,
Yet it alone remains pure,
Free of desire,
While being free of duality
it is beyond change and beyond decay
and thus is the eternal value
For a priceless thing
Its value seems beyond price
For a fleeting fleeting thing
It is long lasting,
and we know
It is beyond us
And may be seen
Only by it
Therefore we desire for it
To hold in our mind
our intention for it
The "orphaned, forgotten,"
our everlasting trust,
our forever firmness
The Master stays in the Master
for so we know,
that he does not command us
We can only see and sense
that which the Master does not possess
we are free to desire it, but we cannot possess it,
We have little,
and so we can know it,
and know it nothing,

It is said,
the Dao flows like a stream flowing to nothingness;
inherently flowing to nothingness,
the Dao gradually grows in depth,
indistinguishable through all the diversities.
The Dao is the mother of all things,
the only source of all my being.
Having the Dao in the center,
I can accomplish;
having the Dao between me and the Dao,
I can experience;
having the Dao at one with me,
I be at peace;
having the Dao as my own private realm,
I can become free;
having Dao as the constant for all,
I become pure;
having Dao in my heart,
I return to the original;
having Dao as the root of all creation,
I become the father of all creation.

The Tao is the water of life; It brings all things into being; Though it is empty, it flows into being. Its goodness is in its extreme. It does not steal. It does not force. It has no need of reward. It is like the mother of all creatures. The great Tao is not afraid of manifestation. It lives in the Inner Life. It knows what to do and when. It cannot be talked about. This is why it remains Inner Life. This is the essential mystery of Tao.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is like the sky: it flows, and nothing can stop it. The best is like the worst: it's there, and yet nothing can stop it. The simplest is like the most difficult: it's there, and yet nothing can stop it. So the Tao is the mother of creation, yet it teaches us nothing: so it's the teacher of non-being. The Tao is the source of all things, yet it knows nothing: so it's the origin of everything else.

Abandon talk, and you will be able to sing.Where knowledge has been given, there is a way that all things will follow.Where truth is spoken, there is wisdom and virtue.It is a great mystery to all creatures and humans, but no one dares talk about it.Everyone knows that nothing is given to everyone, and that everything must have its supply.Therefore, let it be so.If you let go of all these great things, what will you have?Get rid of your knowledge and you will have your mind.In order to know what is great, see what is simple.In order to see what is natural, see what is obvious.In order to understand what is basic, see what is irrelevant.In order to understand what is necessary, see what is unreal.When there is harmony in nature, the deep will return to the water.When you desire to do a job, you must get it done.When you try to improve things, they must get better.When you try to bring harmony to the world, there will be a constant change in patterns.As for looking at the world with a glass half full, how could you think anything is complete?That which is great is hidden, so the fool will find it.One who knows this is free from vanity.Being free from vanity, one understands that everything is simple and a great achievement may take a lot of hard work.When the things are even less than one year old, they are ready to become potent.The sage understands that everything comes from the source. He knows that the path is relative and always comes back to the source.When he puts things in order, they grow as flowers. When he uses the flowering, they bloom. The sage becomes the flower in the world and nourishes it. He also serves as a mother.

Unity creates no distinction, filling space and nourishing all things.
That which fills does not intrude,
The inner good is of benefit to all.
And yet those who use it too often are nearing overflow.
They are manifestly lacking when all is peaceful and quiet.
The virtue of Unity is simplicity.
Hollow is the block, thick the thickness,
And what cannot be made is made not.
The mover's do not impress
And so the doers do not appear.
Thus,
'Sage in their fields
Hold firm and yield And receive none:
For who has their work's end?
They might grow to excess and need to stretch themselves out.
Such a one comes from the root and not from the reaches.
Then he will die without looking for it.
That is the way of Heaven.

The masters of Tao flourish in peace,
Like newborn children enjoying a moment of rest.
To find someone who harbors or values a grudge,
Is to harbor an evil intent.
Everyone does their share of good,
And no one is left out.
Yet the master cherishes the good,
And those who don't appreciate it must endure.
This is why the sages say:
"Gracious people enjoy the good,
And do not prefer any.
Yet if you deem it unworthy,
You must endure."
That is the Tao of Heaven.

The Perfection of TruthIs described by the name of unity:The whole is without differences,The diversity is the utmost.Nothing in the world is superfluous or evil.You never get enough; you never need a thing.You value all things equally.This is called the perfect opposite of selfishness.If there are those who care about being selfish,Yet hardly show it,It is necessary that they be regarded with extreme kindness.This is called the Tao of Direction in the universe.
<|endoftext|>
The highest Virtue is described by its name: "One who does not manifest"Is reckoned with by "One who manifests".It is the harmony of being which creates nothing from nothing.No one can be separated from the Tao. It is the true Direction of the Universe.

The Te doesn't need saying. And the thread shouldn't be severed.The bow doesn't need a thick cord;the string isn't needed for that.Give them what they want and nothing is lost.This is called teh's humanity.Give what people want, and the front will not be right.Give what is missing, and it will be on its own.When people use words, they are always wanting things.Thus, there is no cleverness; there is only a good gut feeling. A person like the Great Taoist lives by its own goodness.

The great Te says:
I'm not in the business of deeming the thread the 'brother' of the bow or the string the 'lover' of the bow,
The great Te is without being full of ideas and thought.
I shall give the rope and the bow to you,
And it won't need a twine to hold them to the ground.
Give the strings and the bow to the fish and the fish will not need to wear them.
And yes, yes it is the uncarved wood of the great bow,
That will soon be needed to bind together the thieves upon the earth.
This is the nature of Teh's humanity,
And as its body lacks material worth I'm content with simplicity.
Thus the Great Taoist lives in peace and harmony,
Lying down, doesn't mind losing,
Only letting down what is most needed.
He doesn't treasure possessions or gain a reputation,
Inferior nature is the true center of Tao's human nature,
This way I feel satisfied,
And without excess, without selfishness.
A sage seeks as his center the universal harmony,
Producing nothing, lending nothing.
He finds true inner peace and peace lies in the centre, not in his bellies or the legs,
Where the life of creation is.

the hills are like the Earth

Therefore they say,

Therefore they say:
"Between heaven and earth,
how could they differ?"
This is the reason that the hills are produced, and the valleys are given birth
by the earth.
In the same way,
the valleys are produced, and the hills are nurtured
by the earth.
This is why the hills are produced, and the valleys are given birth.
Because the earth is their birth, and the hills their nurturance,
the sage is thus like the Earth in natural equality.
This is the reason why the sage is supremely satisfied.
He abides content and does not care.
Like the Earth, he does not accumulate things.
He does not display his wealth.
He does not display his goods.

How could the Heaven and the Earth be different?

Through their death, creation and life are preserved.
Through their destruction, creation and life are destroyed.

He who has discerned the Infinite in virtue of this method will not be aware of its motion.Those who are clever and cunning (in other words) who are clever in learning and clever in acting are not aware of it.Those who are in touch with simplicity and naturalness,those who are in touch with their essence,those who are in touch with the heart's true nature,those who are in touch with the solid of the matrix and those who are in touch with the universal order,always need to stop, withdraw, and turn away.Therefore the Way, since it is always in motion, never stops and never turns.When it has possessed a good son, then he nurtures it, to serve it, to finish it. When it is like a great river, it is often hard to get clear waters from rough stones.When it is like a great space, it is easy to seize and to enslave it.Therefore it is best for them who are attached to what is common to fall back, and for them who are attached to what is different to go forward.This is to be a model of serenity and oneness of being, for it is the opening to the whole world.

Therefore the Abstruse And acts in opposition to Infinity:Therefore, in opposing to Infinity it acts in conformity to Infinity. Such being so, its upper part distributes the resulting slack;Its lower part perishes the resulting slack. The nature of Infinity is just.To obtain it is to possess it, and to lose it is to retain it.The people of the world seek the great and nothing will become great to them;Thus those with great yet hardly get it leave it and return.They do this, by rejecting everything, and by loving everything.
<|endoftext|>
It follows that, when talking about Infinity, one talks of its upper part and the upper part's lower part, and about its white, and the black, and its essence.How then can we talk of it as being non-existing? Because it is non-existing, there is no being existing.Therefore the people of the world therefore say, "We are not even comprehending the existence of the Universe."We can be comprehending the existence of the Universe but we do not become cognizant of the existence of anything else.Thus, this is the meaning of the expression:The universe is not comprehending the existence of its existence.It is cognizant of its existence, and does not cognize its existence.That is why the One is cognizant of its existence.It does not cognize its existence.Because it is cognizant of its existence.

The people will not fill his heart;
They will fill his bony backbone.
If he is corrupt, then his wealth is gone.
The people will rob him of what they have,
Then they will rob him of what they have no need.
The people will pay him dearly,

This too is called 'wander-going,' 'reaching far away,' 'far ahead,' that is to say, seeking something that does not exist. If one tries to grasp things with his grasp, he will lose sight of what is truly there. If one tries to push things far, He will find that one can no longer keep pace with him. Therefore the sage, by traveling ahead, travels ahead alone; This will be even better than pushing things far. To offer the great lance with a bow is to take upon you the great lance. This means the bow gives it a downward pressure. How much the pressure! How much the pressure! You need to have it up again. To turn a round earth into a cart is to break it into parts; to make a great rope by tying knots; to make a great door with great angles is to make it hard and narrow. Why should a human being want to hold on to the parts he uses? This means that the parts are given to him. To take away from a man he gives to him; this means that he has nothing to lose by it. And if a wise man gives to the common man, he gets nothing. That's why he does things, not for himself but for the benefit of the world.
<|endoftext|>
Expose the bow, and the great lance becomes the great bow. Proportion the heavy, the great load.The great angles make the door and gable too hard. How can the man of substantial portions hold on to the heavy parts?Thus, he takes away from them to give to them.If a master produces, he gives nothing. This is why he does things, not for himself but for the benefit of the world.

You have the pattern of Dao,and yet don't have the desire to set your heart on it.Everything will conform to you.But it will never come to you.It will stay where it is.
<|endoftext|>
The ancient Tao is an ever-evolving tapestry of words and action. Though attuned to all sides of itself, it does not try to develop its Tao. It follows without fashion. All things, though they follow its course, do not see how they could benefit from it. It gives away its benefit to those who have resources. It does not live on the wealth that comes from its own merit. It works without expectation of reward.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is subtle. For it is constantly in motion. Yet it does not dwell in itself, it resides on the underside. And yet it advances with the least effort, yet it cannot lose sight of its source. For if something is good enough, it will only be good enough for a few. If things are forced to give a good enough answer, it will only resort to force. For those who have plenty of merit, a little is enough. And those who have enough on hand, they must also take what is entrusted to them. If no matter is traded away, then those who live rightly know how to give of themselves.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is mysterious, so subtle it takes many forms. Yet it has no desires; it acts without looking for approval. When there is good, it gives it, when there is evil, it takes it. When good has been given to a family, it gives them something more. When good has been given to the state, it makes a home for the people. When things are given to the family, it makes something more. When the family is given something more, it spreads the blessing. When blessings come, it gives it to the family. It is not afraid to act at the appropriate time.
<|endoftext|>
Tao is ever subtle, yet never asserting its principles. The myriad attributes, the rivers and the seas transform themselves. If this be not the nature of Tao, whose is it then? Giving to others - why do they receive?Giving to things - what are they made of?Because they have attained Unity, that is to say, the depths of reason and wisdom, of Higher Life.When All that

When an artificial name comes into being, the Primal Tao doesn't have any pretension of contrivance.
The supple winds weaves its ways,
And the soft winds weaves its ways.
Through contrivance the strong moves, and through contrivance the weak moves.
Without knowing it, things are twisted.
Through contrivance, the strong moves with the force of ten thousand men;
But through contrivance the weak moves with the force of one man.
Without knowing it, the things are twisted.
Through contrivance, the strong moves with the force of the one hundred thousand men;
But through contrivance the weak moves with the force of one hundred thousand men.
Without knowing it, the things are twisted.
Through contrivance, the strong moves with the force of one hundred thousand men;
But through contrivance the weak moves with the force of one hundred thousand men.
What is its nature is it's nature.
The weak pulls, and the strong overcomes.
Yet we know it's nature.
How much is it we want to give?
That which is strong moves with the force of all under heaven.
How much we want to give is natural.
The Tao is myriad, and manifests itself in thousands of subtle things,
And yet the real Tao seems to us naught.
Yet what we desire to give is in no wise unnecessary.
Why, that which is strong is first overcome by what is weak,
And that which is powerful is first overcome by what is powerless.
It is through these, subtle and obscure,
That we can recognise what is substantial,
And what is ineffable.

Without words a bow is the innate bow. A round it is its loft. A high it takes away; a low it lays hold on. Something that has been taken away by nothing it re-appropriates; something that is heaved up by nothing it gives back. Those that have been depleted are replenished by those who are depleted; those that have been made rich by those who are rich, are replenished by those who are poor. Hence, the Way of the cosmos is to take from those that are in need; to give to those who already have enough. Being on the Way, one does not take from people and give to them, one does not waste; one does not grow rich and it is passed on to others. This is the Tao of the cosmos.

Wax and wax, and you will find an empty vessel. Shap and you will find strain. Height and you will find blandness. Gluttony and you will find recklessness. What is lacking is destroyed by giving it away. What is lacking is destroyed by gaining it. Therefore the Way of the universe is to take what is lacking and to give to what is already rich. In this way the tao can always be fulfilled.
<|endoftext|>
The most profound sort of bow is the way of giving; wreathed with knots, it is the most profound cup. The most deep is the hollow it covers; its semblance is the yielding or wasteful yielding that comes from not wanting to be. The void becomes filled by possessing by giving what is possessed. Its being is the gain by giving what is obtained. The Tao of heaven is to take from what is deep, and to give to what is unoccupied. If a person [of Tao] is best, he is humble, not arrogant, not prejudiced. Thus he is able to fulfill his duty, and there is nothing that is wasted. Thus the highest virtue of the universe is to exact from people what is beyond a simple superfluity. He is successful in fulfilling his duty, and there is no lack of will.

The Way is like a bow. Tends to hold to it.The low rises,The high falls.Things get tangled up and are left.What is held still is of greatest value,What seeks to break the bonds is of the least.Yet, whoever follows things to the extreme is bound to keep things above themselves.As to their nature, always different.Always with power, always with weakness.No harm shall come to him who follows the Way in self-sacrifice for others.

The Way is like a bow, so flexible; sometimes it strays, sometimes it strides, always tending upward.The natural way takes what is borrowed, then gives it back again, and tries to keep it under control.It does not change what is already too little.So the approach of the Tao is to be like water

The Tao is like a tree whose trunk can be bent to any shape. It is adaptable in its simple simplicity and even shapes up into a door.It can bend and contract in its slips of a boat to make it stand.It can be raised and lowered in its towers of doors to open and close.And yet it is not unduly bestowed on others.The Tao is like the Fountain of the Universe.Yet it is not used, although it may be the foundation of all things.It is the simple perception of the Way and no man may depend on it.He may depend on what is given, and he may be content with what is taken.
<|endoftext|>
The universe is made up of subtle subtleties.The subtle subtleties of the universe cannot be fully defined,because they appear as interdependences.To name them, we use the following example: a rope stretched over a ravine becomes a ladder, a tower erected over a ravine becomes a doorway,and a wave of wind passing by a valley becomes a river.So it seems, when we recognize the potential of the universe,
But, we also recognize its limitations.
<|endoftext|>
From the earliest times until the present time, the ten thousand subtle subtleties have unfolded and sustained.Everything is composed of subtle subtleties.
Nature's manifestations are produced by subtle subtleties; that is why we can understand subtle subtleties.
If we could reveal everything that is, how would we understand the way that we perceive it? How could we describe everything that is within us?
Because we see the subtle forms and processes of existence, we can know the rules.
And because we understand what is happening, we can know how things are.
The Tao is the heart of things.
It gives birth to and renews everything.
By understanding the subtleties of the Tao, you can see the vastness of the universe.
By seeing the subtle subtleties of the universe, you can see the ways of the way.
This is the doorway to the Way.
Not judging others, you can be one with others.
Not believing others, you can be one with all.
Follow your heart.

It is best to roll it, No matter how thick it is. Do not exalt it, No matter how low it is. Be fruitful, not greedy. The DAO accomplishes it without expecting favour. Man goes by water to rain water. Fish go by water to breathe air. Earth moves by water to split up into dust and rocks. The Great Tao is by what we call earth that we can use to send our forces into action. All things on earth have intelligence, and intelligence is an intelligence. If intelligence were not of use to us, how would we be able to use it for us? Therefore the ancient wise men - of whatever course they would go - proceeded without thought of goal, and went to accomplish tasks that they had prepared for themselves. After they had completed their work, they did not rejoice in it.
<|endoftext|>
Man travels by ice to cross a river; fish pass by rivers to breathe; earth takes the form of rivers to flow; Heaven takes shape through rivers, and Heaven takes form through the form of rivers.To cross a river, though, is as slippery as ice, nor can you roll it up. Flow is not infinite, and you must gradually increase it; the wise master increases it, as he rolls up the ice in order to make it still and pliant. The pursuit of the Great Tao, as his actions, are not like the things of this world: they begin from this world, and end with the world. He does not affirm himself, he is not preoccupied about his achievements, he is not critical of himself.

Do you try to relate what is happening to the Tao to the light? The Light moves through the space between white and black, and between left and right. It is dark in the space between bright and dark. A square has six corners, yet the light is seen through the corners. The space between light and darkness is called white. Within the white lies the dark. Within the dark lies the light. Between light and darkness is called black. The universe is made up of light and darkness. So light is employed in helping to make the dark. However, in order to make the dark, we use the light. This is the difference between a light square, where the light is used for saving the corners, and a dark square where the light is employed to assist making the corners. Therefore the wise do not depend upon their lightness for saving their lightness. They are able to depend upon their darkness.Therefore they see their saving as the saving of their darkness.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao can be described as the curve of your fear
(between the white and the black).
The Tao comes from the space
between darkness and light
(the center).
The emptiness of the space
between the darkness
and light
in the world
makes it the center.
The light that comes from that center
is hidden in the darkness
(the inner world).
We perceive things
in the inner world
so that we can see that
between the light and the dark
(the outer world).
Yet what makes a light
can also make a dark
or what is between
the light and the dark
makes us afraid.
So the master does not
look to this as [the] decisive thing
(as it is what unites the two).
And yet
he finds that the hidden square
about which he is most afraid
(like to think of it as the center, the sacred square)
is just as his center of gravity.
We learn
from this that
we can do anything
but it is only because we have
the light
from our soul.
To know the light is to know our true self.

The good in action are like a bow made of bones and muscles
As a good ruler is like a bow-player who can throw it
So the world as a whole is like a spade-worker is like a bow-player
When the lower part is cut off, it is brought up
When the higher part is picked up, it is strung
When the plow comes to pick the dirt from the ground, it is picked up too
When the valley floods to rise, it is raised in a valley too
When the human mind is forced to manage a group of people, it is forced to be controlled
Of course, if you give a ruler a good help, he will have more.

The good in action are like bones and muscles
As a good leader is like a discus thrower
The world as a whole is like a pointy instrument

When one rolls it, one rejoins the motion
When the block falls to the ground, one rejoins the plough
When a man takes on his social responsibilities, one tries to do so for him
However, one who does not strive for glory of life is in no position to rule
That which may be said is:
When good action meets bad action,
it is like the use of a blade or a wooden pole
When the bad meet good action,
it is like using a hand or a plow
When the bad encounter good action,
it is like lying down and responding
When the good meet bad action,
it is like drowning in the mud.

In this world's affairs one should learn humility
If one teaches one's students humility, then it will be better for one's leadership

At times a general has to go far. The lesser leaders need to go alone. The officials need to cooperate as closely as a mother and a child. The kindness of nature is the first step toward humility. When a person works diligently, he accomplishes. But if a person does not work as hard as he can, he must stop. If a person is not sincere, the kindness of nature does not become genuine. The honorable should not dishonor the righteous. The general must pay attention to details, conduct himself righteously, be strong, and be competent. He must accept no credit for his merit, and win no attention for his accomplishments.

The lesser of two evils approaches that of the superior. In leading the army or ruling over a state the inferior serves. In governing a community the superior and inferior are the same, the inferior, without being illustrious, ceases to be superior.The superior and inferior are alike, because they differ in names. The superior is distinguished by being so. The inferior is distinguished by being so. The superior praises because he praises. The inferior praises because he praises. Without this praise the superior is not honored. The inferior praises because he praises. He who praises has no credit to offer. If he does not praise he is not praiseworthy. Without the praise of the people he may govern himself. If he has no government he may act for the people. The man of the hundred and threepence can serve the man of one drachma. By doing nothing he may serve the hundred and a quarter. The Principle of the Reason can do anything. By acting without fear, by saving himself without fear, he can accomplish everything he sets his mind to. He may be the man of the hundred and a penny, and become wealthy. But if the people do not like him, He cannot be loved. Do not desire the approval of the people, Yet if you cannot succeed in that the world can welcome you. When a superior man acts and fails He is like one who has done his work and left. He can act and succeed. But if he does not act and succeeds he loses his essence. When the Principle acts without striving He is like the myriad natures. The myriad natures work for the superior man without striving. The superior man works and fails Without striving. Because he has failed He becomes like a thing, and thus the superior man is like a thing. The Principle works, but it is not an action that

of a man of faith;
the weight of your recklessness
could lay you low.

Stretch it open, and rip it,

Thus the Principle
commits violence but never loses sight of its source.
The things that follow will have their fruit,
and things that follow will have their root.
The substance will be made light, the height and depth.
The Empire rules the depths of the depths;
the Principle knows no boundaries.
He sees the down to the root;
the soil of no soil,
he sees all things as they are.
He sees the light side to the dark side,
the root to the fore.
With no desire of himself,

What is thin, is stretched out and curved in its angles;
What is too heavy, will be reduced to a state of exhaustion;
What is thick, will be drawn out of its places;
In the one case being stretched out, and in the other being drawn out.
But the Principle in (acting) on its own produces what it demands, and in (acting) upon the (other) - it produces something far removed from it.
What is developed and arranged for the present, is something whose origin is in itself (of which the Principle is a root-child).
What is wanted for the present is something whose origin is in another. (But) this, in time of peace, merges with the main body, and the new-builds come into being;
yet it is not so clear-cut as the former, when in conflict with one.
This is done by merely cutting the mass.
-O the whirling of a rope!- how does it gain strength when there is no cord, when there is no knot?
By cutting it down. This is why a group of people think that the man of action is the one who receives the light; the one who gives the way; the one who widens the doorway; the one who marks the beginnings of great things. There are people who cut others for the sake of serving them

The Complete Thinker is not helped by people. Who can be helped by him?
The Complete Thinker is possessed of the Tao (the Laws of the Universe)
The followers of the Complete Thinker are not possessed by anything. If they are possessed of the Tao (the Laws of the Universe), can their possession of the Tao (the Laws of the Universe) be ever used by them? Can the Complete Thinker ever use the Tao (the Laws of the Universe)? No, his use is no more than need. He may accomplish something without becoming aware of it. He may accomplish it without dwelling on it. He may accomplish it without tying his actions to any collective political power. He may accomplish it without holding allegiance to any social group. He may accomplish it by ability. He may accomplish it by being complete. The Complete Thinker accomplishes nothing through his mere awareness of himself, through the phrase "doing,"
But the great Thinker, the one of whom is much talked about, is not what can be called a great Thinker. What is he capable of accomplishing? To accomplish he does not act by being intent. To accomplish he does not act by ignoring what he is unable to act on. If he acts on what he is unable to act on, his effort will not fail him. If his effort fails him, his ability to accomplish will be no greater than that of the average man. But he who acts on average for long, can accomplish great deeds; but if his efforts fail to make a big impression, he will find that he is capable of completing things, and will then be regarded as the leader of a big society. But who could be regarded as the leader of a big society without his "acting" thinking about it?
When men mean more than all to him and he uses them not, they know that it is not his use. If they use him not, he will not lose them. But a man's character always depends on his own actions. If he does not take them up, he will not lose them; and if he loses them, he will not refuse them. But it is only by his own acting that he knows his own nature. How much better to act without thinking about it.
That is the Principle of Reason. This principle alone can put an end to desire. It alone can make the world a good place for it.
Let the Master put all men under the following principle, and let them no more desire to be

The tao of the world is indeed like the rigid bow used to harness the bowstring of the bow,
It is the part that's never fully depleted.
If the string is too long, you'll have to undo it.
If it's too short, it'll have to lengthen.
Tao itself is the ebb and flow of myriad things,
Yet, it makes sure that no one gets a deficit
And that every little thing gets value.
This is how it achieves perfection.
The superior mind makes sure that nothing is hidden from the world
Such perfection leaves no room for temptation.
Perfection is a point of departure that everyone follows.
When it accomplishes its purpose, it leaves nothing undone.
Therefore, when the world's leaders speak of their successes, they usually point to the results of their work
When people value their accomplishments, it means that they're content.
If the material world has no value,
Then it must have value.
From the Tao perspective, the universe has no purpose, so it must have a purpose.
If this is true, then the universe, with its many sources, must have a purpose.
Thus, true greatness is a purposeless action.
<|endoftext|>
The tao of the world is like the bowstring. The full bowstring is not as good as the piece of wood that is twisted into a rope. Everything is properly measured, and then the measure is taken back. Everything is given credit for its value, and the whole thing is given a return. This is just like the Tao. This is why the leaders of the world should not lean heavily on materialism and should not use materialism as a basis for their policies. They must be true to their Way and to their Way alone.
<|endoftext|>
The tao of the world is like the string which is twisted to conduct the bow. The string is hard and it may not be worn out. If the bow is not long enough, it will break. If it is not long enough, it will become too short. Therefore the tao is like the bow, which slowly widens until it is evened, and then it is reduced to being the means for the purpose. The leader acts with sincerity, so there is no guile of the other man's hiding. The tao keeps that which is good for the life for the living.

The upper, the useful, the deep:
So the way of heaven seems not to be the way of earth's.
The solid, the useful, the deep:
So the way of heaven seems not to be the way of earth's.
The still, the useful, the deep:
The way of heaven seems not to be the way of earth's.
Non-interfere, Non-impulse
The heavenly Way of heaven Is to aid the small,
The solid way of heaven Is to aid the hollow.
Thus, in helping to empty,
We assist to fill.
In helping to fill, We assist to reduce.
Though assisting to reduce, We assist to diminish.
Who is able to reduce (to emptiness) ?
He who has the Heaven.
<|endoftext|>
To the left (left) is the real (natural) Heaven.
To the right (right) is the spiritual nature.
Both rise from the natural, rise from the inner spirit.
Even though there may be limits,
they fill, they reduce.
To yield to great power is to lose one's uniqueness.
To lose one's uniqueness is to lose one's unique essence.
Who is able to lose one's uniqueness?
He who knows Tao.
Who does not know Tao?
Can his Way not be abandoned?
<|endoftext|>
All above is the Tao:
(The) solid is the beginning of the Tao;
(The) still is the foundation of the Tao.
Both are shaped by the force of heaven:
(The) still is the outermost limit of the Tao.
Neither of these is defective (former, has no flaws).
They increase, they decrease.
To gain further,
you must exert energy.
To lose further,
you must constrain.
Both the force of heaven and the force of the Tao are of use to men;
(Yet) one without the other is not able to achieve Tao.
Only in not confining its use will its usefulness arise.
That is why the Tao is not achieved by following the way of heaven.
(In) virtue is the use of Tao.
(In) not virtue leads to misfortune.

The way is neither higher nor lower than the sky.
The solid is the very earth's measure.

What does it mean to be the Great Power? The greatest power is what is inadequate. The best power is not the Great Power. The Small Power does not exist. Who becomes an adequate person has no need for being. Who becomes a inadequate person has need for being. Who is the owner of insufficient persons has need for being. Who is the owner of insufficient persons has need for being. How is it that the Small Person can become what it is needing? Because of the Unity. The Self is neither Self nor Selfless. Being and Not Being complement each other. The Self is not Self and Selfless does not become Selfless. Being and Not Being complement each other and so together they are Selfless. The self does not have Selfhood to become selfless, and nothing in the world is not selfless.

What means is to be the Great Power.It means, being the Great, not taking action to hold it.Being the Great, it is not to be held.Being the Great, it is not to have need for action.Being the Great, it is to be needed.Being the Great, it is to be insufficient.Being the Great, it is to be inadequate.What is to be the Great is lacking in sufficient.What is to be the Great, is not to have sufficient.What is to be the Great, is not to be inadequate.What is to be the Great, is not to have a surplus.What is to be the Great, is not to be incomplete.Who is the fit who is incomplete?The fit does not have need to have a surplus.Who is the fit who has need, does not need to be inadequate.Who is fit who has excessive needs, does not have a surplus.How is it that the Character is inadequate without a point of complete existence?It is because it has not manifested itself as a point complete existence.How is it that the Being is complete without a point complete existence?It is because it is without the being.It is not complete in its being, so it is without presence.How is it that the Light is complete without a point of complete existence?Because it is complete in being, it has not been devoid of being.How is it that the Sage is complete without a point of complete existence?Because he is not an exception.He acts, but does not boast of his deeds, and lives in the spirit of giving and not taking.

The Tao does nothing, yet it functions all the time.
The practice of Tao is like keeping an expansive bow.
High above the earth, the lower can settle with ease.
Subsistence is produced, but it is not enough, not enough, even the excess is used up.
Heaven and Earth are like opening a bow. It can create the high and lower, but does not claim ownership.
It is the Inner Essence that works on the outer, it is Nature that assists the inner.
A person who knows Tao knows the Tao, a person who doesn't know Tao knows nothing at all.

The way of Heaven's way is the way of Heaven and Earth.
The way of humanity's way is the way of humanity.
Things come into being, And all things are made as they are, And after that they are made as much more.
Thus the highest virtue is to keep this very subtle essence.
It is through the subtle essence That human beings can become subtle and also become human.
Being human, being able to feel the subtle essence,
Is the source of all humanity.
By virtue of the depth of being, Human beings have the most depth and meaning.
Knowing the essence of being, Humanity is enlightened.
Knowing the essence of humanity, Humanity is wise.
Knowing the essence of humanity, Humanity is exalted.
Knowing the depth of humanity, Humanity is limitless.
Therefore, Great Individuals employ only their force And gain because they take no gain.

Behold the self that is always without a name: It is the nameless in origin, the uncountable in origin, a paradise that is full of trouble, and creates disturbances. Therefore the sage is the taker of the earth's bounty, the returns, the returns. His own holiness is the center of the earth. If others lack it, he takes it. Therefore the wise avoids deeds that are contrary to humanity, and being indifferent towards success. He obtains his holiness without ever obtaining glory, and therefore remains supreme.

Because he gives without expectation, he is without distinction. This is the light of heaven, the purest spirit, the nature of all that is holy. What is between is where what needs to be is.
He who knows how to use this cannot be cheated.
He who can tell what will profit him cannot be robbed.
He who knows what to lose cannot be deceived.
Let him whom you would entrust your life be!
Hold to the Tao.

This Way is like water that is made to flow, reaching all creatures.
And only when it comes to the left is it able to abandon its way to the right.
By abandoning its way, it makes the life of others,
The sages, and enable them to depend on themselves.
The ability of this Way is not understood, and it hardly occurs.
There are those who have ability to possess, but they do not possess anything;
The one who has ability to speak, but does not possess anything;
The one who is able to work, but does not possess anything.
These are the people who do not live by the Way,
And they do not possess the things that they require.
Who are the people who have ability to live the way,
Or who, knowing themselves, are content,
And who

The great Tao
Is like a bow,
Bottomed to the middle;
The high-heelers
Throw it low;
Reject the excess.
Who makes the excessive big?
Such-and-such does have it.
Let's replace them with those who have it:
Let's make it so they never have any.
We'll keep it simple:
We'll transform it into the great artifact
With a name like Infinity.
Who made it?
Of course it's Tao.
Tao is like the way,
It bends to the left,
Lowers itself to the right,
Grabs the ground,
Expanses itself,
Obliviates it.
Who are the one and only ones?
The Tao, the Tao is without name;
Tao is without form,
It is immortal and indestructible.
Therefore the great Tao is
Immutable, and
In its eternal progress
Is the perfect instrument.
It endures in the smallest form,
And can be the first among men to attain enlightenment.
It returns to nothing.
Therefore
Tao is great.
The great is the great:
Tao does not act,
And yet is a great act.
Only when it is forgotten
Are we able to act.

Great Tao is like a bow without sides, without binding, without taut, without going low.
Who uses it to make the inferior under?
When it goes low, what is left is surplus;
When it is going low, what is left is deficiency.
By use of its the lesser one creates an excess.
By use of its the greater one provides an absence.
By the one who uses it is he [man] able to bring about the greatness?
So: by the Tao himself the Great is known, and by man he comes to that.
By the Tao he is perfect, and by man is he perfected.
Who can turn this great Tao into what is little in the world?
Who can improve it by becoming a man?
It is the Direction of Heaven that makes this big bow humble,
and makes the arm-high the low.
Its cutting down the excess gets rid of the deficiency.
By virtue of which Nature gives to the world

Those who know the secret are like water that can change shapes, as being as in calm from one extreme to the other.Water seems to be perfectly still in the middle position, but bursts forth from the source to put pressure on the greatest things.
The earth, which by its constant motion has become difficult to hold, has lost the flexibility to receive a new charge of throw and returns to the condition of stillness in its utter rejection of all the parts of any whole.
Heaven, which by the movement of its parts throws open to the light of its four quarters, is in this very contrary of itself of retaining the length and breadth of the softness and the purity of the depth, and thus bringing about what in that state has no return to the outside.
Therefore the sage thus puts himself under and does not wish to be right; and by his activity and non-assertion causes himself to be the object of the merit of others. Therefore, this in a sense lets all benefit. This in a sense hardly claims to have anything. This in a sense nourishes the world without that. By itself it is an example of the Tao, and through it let all be rightly named.

Precisely because it is of no small size, the bow is the model for many wonders. How much may be well satisfied in a single trip, from the most elegant banquet to the most empty bar? Is that why the nobles would let the state's laws come from the universe?Or is it because they will gladly rely on it?Is the flower in a cup lighter in the winter than the year? Or does the inferior make a display of itself in front of people?For Tao, all things rise up, but nothing else is left behind.Thus, Tao gives birth everything, but has no attachment to any thing.It advances without being self-assertive, and it does not demand recognition.By this I mean, "I am not even worthy to be honored as an elder brother."Therefore, I have attained the world.This is the way the Tao of the universe gives birth.

Inasmuch as the lord wishes to direct the way of Heaven,He draws the bow of heaven.Since Heaven is the ruler of the way of the universe,The bow of heaven should not be overthrown.Since the universe is the ruler of the way of the people,The one whose abilities are plentiful should be in the position of a lord of the universe.Therefore, one's grace should be manifested, but one's merit should not be extolled.One's abundant virtue should be manifested, but one's merit should not be boasted of.One's eminent virtue should manifest, but one's merit should not be deluded with.If one seeks to be worthy of universal recognition,But one cannot look like one who was produced by the unending cycle of life.Therefore, the wise man, whilst he enjoys the lightness of the day,Rather than be distinguished,Makes himself worthy of celebration.

TAO alone is one in all things, that it may be one in all things.How it is so is that it is then hollow, that it may be hollow.How it is thus is that it is then lofted, and that it may be lofted.How it is thus is that it is then stretched, and that it may be stretched.How it is thus is that it is then exhausted, and that it may be exhausted.How it is thus is that it is then transformed, and that it may be transformed.Thus the tao governs the space,And the space governs the void.The void governs the spaceAnd so does the tao govern the people.Thus the tao governs the peopleAnd so does it govern the tao.Therefore the sage does but does not hastenHis actions,But pursues his goals with unfailing balance.He pursues his goals But does not set out to attract any reward. He does but does not linger for long.Therefore he is near called the sage of things.

The Tao is the One in all that is. It is so deep, so nameless, so limpid, so vast. It stretches without constraint. It is alternately extended, extended, and exhausted. It is alternativly deep, deep, and exhausted. It is alternativly yielding, yielding, and yielding. It is so complete, that it is that it is finally completed. The Tao govern the cosmos, and the cosmos govern the universe. The universe and the cosmos govern each other. The universe and the universe are different. There is another world, and the universe and the universe are the same. Who can govern the universe? And who can govern the universe through the Tao? Therefore a wise ruler does what is necessary, when there is nothing left undone. He does what is necessary, when there is nothing left undone, but does it for the sake of what he knows, for what he loves. He does what is necessary, when he does not know the result, but then follows through. This is the Tao of the great sage: he does what is necessary, and expects no less than return of reward. He does what is necessary, and expects no less than return of reward. Because he does not cling to any one thing, he is called a master.

When the essence of the Tao becomes manifest,
Then its form follows.
For when the form is manifest,
Wrap it in ten thousand instruments
And ever follow them;
And when the wrap is lost, keep it.
When you have lost the wrap,
Re-wrap it.
It is by keeping it that you receive;
It is by losing it that you gain;
It is by having too much that you lose it.
Thus the Way of Heaven [Meaning the embracing form of Tao]
Acts with the forms of the Tao;
And yet it is but a plenitude of Tao.
That which benefits others receives;
And that which harms others takes its own way.
Therefore the Master treats all as he acts:
Without expectation,
After not desiring to be made illustrious,
He is not despised.

Tao becomes manifest;
wielding it,
wears it with fidelity;
and following it,
serves it well;
and lending it,
embraces it with true trust.
"Such" (the ten thousand wonders)

of its being "encompassed";
the image of Tao's response,
its being.
"Such" (the ten thousand wonders)
is the measure of Tao's response,
of its being.
It takes everything from it and produces it;
It takes things from it and produces them,
and produces them, and produces them,
and produces them, and takes it.
It makes people more and more,
And then it takes them by surprise.
For Tao does not presume to be great.
It does not presume to be something else,
and therefore it does not yield to any other.
For "the wise are those who dare not presume."
They do not presume, so they do not begin to fail.

One who appreciates the Way sometimes yields to it; sometimes is ready to go to the extreme, sometimes does not go to the extreme. One who is willing to yield sometimes loses it; sometimes possesses it; sometimes does not possess it. [Those who] cannot get rid of it need [something else], and [such a person] is given the title of Great. [Who] is given the title Great, he is then given authority. If [such a person] could not [have authority] then he would want to succeed [without] losing [his authority]. Therefore the sage behaves like an on-going stream, he acts on the first occasion, he does not consider himself a great man, and in contrast with the other men [he] is respected as a great man. Therefore he [the man of the on-going stream] is not given [as] the model for others.

When it comes to these things, the Highest Spirit embraces the Way; when that Way arrives at home, its direction is fulfilled. When it doesn't reach home, it rolls back. When it has surplus, it reduces; when it is already reduced, it fills it up. The Great Individuals differ from one another in ruling of the way. There is a change of Direction; hence, they are called Great Individuals. In serving their ruler, they are not as great as others are in ruling the way. This is why the Great Individuals receive great recognition. They differ not from others [in ruling the way]. They have no desire for recognition.

The Way that goes the right takes the left. The Way that takes the right goes back to the left. By the way left and right go back to the left, So a left-behind is behind a right-behind, An excess takes away the need of extra. It happens to be the Way of Heaven, It takes away what has excess and lays hold of what is insufficient.The worldly man appears as deficient in his actions, yet he still relies on such things as righteousness and righteousnesslessness.
<|endoftext|>
As water is seen in the heavens as the source of the whole world, so is the way. It is the way that goes through the left and the left that is known as insufficient. Similarly the way goes through the right and the right that is known as insufficient. Like water, the way that has left does not press down. That way that has gone the other way takes the left and returns to the right. Like water, the way that has been overfilled will not be able to refill itself. Like water, the way that has not enough will need to fill itself up. The way of Heaven, therefore, though it would take away the excess, places the limit in the provision that remains from the world. For the benefit of those who follow the way, a label is not to be given. But the wise man observes only those that are of use to him, using them only when they provide the most advantage for him. The Te,the Perfection of Heaven and Earth,Because of its subtle Virtue it alone can be said to constitute the Principle of all things.It is high as the sky,which it supports;it is low as the earth,which it depreciates.It contains all things.It remains untainted.When heaven and earth are destroyed,the first of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the second of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the third of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the fourth of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the fifth of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the sixth of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the seventh of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the eighth of the things is left behind.When the Principle is destroyed,the last of the things is left behind.The Principle alone can leave behind a passage of the things only,and therefore cannot appear superior to the world.It is only through the Te that the difference between Heaven and earth is then complete.

The ultimate Tao is like the Yin Yang. It gives life and sustains the countless things.It is subtle and unchanging.It is always in motion, its motion unfathomable.It gives birth to myriad things.Without Tao, we would not be able to distinguish between the individual and the myriad things.Without it, we would not be able to distinguish between unity and diversity.

The Way of heaven Is as a bow made to a bow; The length of the bow May be compared to the heavens; And the breadth of heaven Can be compared to a net. Therefore, The bow is the bow of heaven, And heaven the net of the bow.
Therefore the upper part is used to spare; The net is the net of heaven; And heaven the use of the net.
A man who is free from matter, Who has enough, cannot be surplus to another; Yet he who is without in excess Can bring about other men. He is enlightened in the Tao, He does not deem himself superior.

The Tao of Heaven is to bend a bow as a bow does to a bowstring.
The Wu is as Heaven bends to a bow.
The bowstring is an instrument to bend Heaven.
The heaven bowstring is an instrument to bend the bow.
The use of the bow is to spare the user; the use of the string is to bend the bow.
Man's greedy creation does not suffice. He who is infinitesimal will collapse the universe.
The Sage practices not egoistic behavior.
Truly, one person acts alone.
Yet, he is capable of major acts.
The Sage regards himself not as master of others, and thus is impartial.
Therefore, the Sage does not hold to one's own existence.

The Virtues of Heaven are as the kindling of a bow
Won't the Heaven bend the bow?
The Thickness of the bow Is in comparison
To the Thinness of the Heaven.
Won't the Heaven bend the thick?
The Front of the Heaven is thin
Than is the Front of the Heaven
The Front is the Thickness.
Inflating the Te has not its benefit
Infusing the Te is not its benefit.
It is the Te of Heaven that diminishes
Than man; to indulge in the Te, in vain
Seems to be the way of Heaven.
For if man take benefit
From the Te, it takes no benefit;
Only Heaven benefits
Without benefiting man.

Heaven is the valley of the universe, but heaven is not regarded as the valley of the universe. The earth is not the valley of the universe, but the earth is regarded as the valley of the universe. Although the earth is not regarded as the valley of the universe, the heavens are nevertheless regarded as the valley of the universe. Although the heavens are not regarded as the valley of the universe, the existence of intelligence is regarded as the valley of the universe. Nevertheless, since knowledge of the universe cannot be expressed through words, the person who has intelligence must employ words to express it. Whoever uses words is not without intelligence. Good on earth is the way of heaven, and bad is the way of earth. When heaven and earth meet together, heaven does good, earth does bad. If heaven and earth see things together, they see both good and evil. Good, then, has to do with the flow of heaven and earth; evil, then, with the tendency of Heaven and earth to cause things to come together. The nature of good is to give it to those without much, and to take from those who have much. But Heaven and Earth do not merely look alike, they are sometimes good. Sometimes bad. Now heaven and earth turn each other around when they meet. Thus they turn each other around as if looking up at heaven and earth. But then they stay where they are, without any new trouble. The Tao flows like water. It is the great image of Tao. The Tao is profound and unapproachable, yet unfathomable. Why is it so profound and unfathomable? Because it is not defined. It has no beginning. Everything seems small; but everything becomes greater. Everything seems small; but everything becomes larger. Everything seems insignificant; but everything becomes great. Why is it so minute? Because it doesn't go by itself. Everything is so profound and unfathomable that it would take me a lifetime to see its light. Who can see the light? The sage, that is who knows how to see. When the sage knows how to see, she doesn't try to impress herself upon the world. When the world sees through the sage, it doesn't want to dwell on its flaws. Since he doesn't dwell on its flaws, nothing is left to be discarded.

Hard to compress.
In finite space, space is of utmost growth.
Dim space, given to a multitude of shapes.

So bent the bow is when the heavens raise them up.
So warped the heavens are when the earth lifts them up.
Then let there be the slight excess in the creation that is thereby fulfilled,

When Tao is lost in the balance, heaven rises in its place. The great thin, like a new pot being filled, is reduced in order to give room for the inferior, and the small, like the left side of a table being tipped, is reduced in order to give room for the greater. When heaven's guidance is lost in the balance, the nobility then becomes insignificant, and the inferior becomes great. This is called losing the clarity of the Tao, and losing the noble. When the noble cannot stand with what the people are, then God appears. This is what it means when Heaven is forgotten, and the Way is forsaken. It is only when people stop wishing for their own advancement, and value their own work, that heaven can be preserved.
Return to TaoThe world stands on the border,Look at heaven and you see the valley beneath it,Look at the world, you see only the body below it.Is there no boundary to these things?Does Heaven become a valley, or a body?Do people become and be then born again, then become dead again?Or is there a valley under heaven where all souls meet?Is there no grave beneath Heaven?I do not know what heaven is, but I know that it is not well.Therefore Heaven has no ground.I don't know what is God, but I know that it is not well.I do not know what heaven is, but I know that it is not well.But if the sacred, the beautiful, and the great do not make it well,Is it not better to let them go?Let nature give her new birth,And let the people let themselves come back.Let them have all that they have,And let them have the touch of life,When they have the touch of life,And let everything return to the simple?Return to the innermost source,And let life begin again.Look at the heavensAnd you see the depth beneath them,Look at the worldAnd you see the bodies they producedThere is no path beneath the skyAnd no ground beneath the world.Is there no peace beneath heaven?Yes, and the humanity of the people produces it.When humanity fails, the demesne is sacrificed.When demesne is sacrificed, the community is perfect.Those who make them this way return to the natural.Everything is born, but the body of the body.Does there ever appear a boundary between heaven and earth?It is nature, but humanity returns.Is there no place to bury one's

Listening to a military leader's talk, it is like listening to an ocean surfer:you follow his way without fail, never leaving a corner. When you have spent a morning in an expansive state, you need not linger.If you stay at home, you gain nothing but more surplus.The inferior is left in the dust, even as dirt is left behind in the wake of a car.So the wise man says:Let him go, with quiet joy! He comes in peace and may be pleased; he fails with no cause for complaint; he stays put and is not injured; he avoids that which loses favor with the crowd.He may be satisfied with nothing, with neither frivolity nor frivolity.It is because he doesn't care what others think that he can be shrewd.

Sitting in confidence with the Sage, there is as much focus as a boat on a calm day. He stays in peace and does not roam; he lets fly his might and does not take unnecessary risks.A path that is calm is that of the master. The worst in existence has neither left nor seized for itself anything, but has only become enriched by what is left. The master does not pursue the fame of himself and so does not get fame. The way of the master is not going for a tour of himself; he is content to enjoy a quiet time.Hiding behind his simplicity, as his master is hidden behind his simplicity, so the former is hidden behind his being. The second, too, keeps his arm behind his simplicity, as the first does with the arm, he is not despised; he does not flaunt himself, and is not taken lightly.For he who can be as simple as the Master, without oneness with the soul.

When the Master attends the talks of those who guide the people, there is no fainting.He does not camp outside, he does not stray, he stays calm, and does not become excited.A noble path has no beginning,
It flows on like a river.
A path that is smooth is like ice that is on the shore.
A path that is rough has no finish,
It is like ocean waves that roll on the shore.
When the lord receives and honours those who rule, will the people remain calm?
Once the path has run out, there must be calm,
When the heart

The DAO follows the straight and narrow: it travels at the utmost, the way is wavy, it moves like a climbing bird, it sits on a low spot, in-heaven cannot get it; in-heaven cannot hold it; in-heaven is going to burst. Heaven can not give to it: why should it? It cannot be entrusted. Heaven can not exalt it: what should we do? The world can not need it: it can be returned. The DAO has nothing to claim, so will be freed from everything for the world: the DAO is on its own; no words from it. Whoever wishes to do good can do it without needing to rely on anyone else. Whoever wishes to lend can do it without needing to rely on anything else. In the DAO the lack of need is not seen.

When the Tao penetrated through the world, it came across each side as different.The kings of old and the gods on the earth followed the Way, so it did not appeal to everybody.The way of the Way is wavy and it doesn't agree with each other. If you cannot get it, you shouldn't try. The world agrees with the Way and tries to impress you. When you can't get the Way, there are limitations in your actions. The world agrees with the Way and tries to improve you. When you are not satisfied, change to the next level. When the Tao fails in its goal, the people step up. The Way is there and nobody can impede it. It is their merit that does it.The people will not claim any merit from the TAO.The TAO must be earned, not just given.The TAO can not work without the government's support.It cannot do anything.The TAO can't be forced to be something, so it has to be given. The TAO is used, not wanted, and must be accepted.

When a traveling Taoist brings the world beneath his gaze, he follows the curves of the earth. Humans do not take it as their task to alter it. No marvel, if they knew what it meant. Heaven hath its path, earth hath its ravine, sky hath its clouds, streams and rivers fill their valleys, people make their livelihoods in the fertile lands, but all are used up in their turn. Heaven alone is unchanging, as on a hunting excursion the heaven will take its course, earth alone is changeable, as on a hunt the earth will fall. Men's desires fill the valleys, rivers and seas fill the seas, hearts fill their houses, though there may be plenty of food in the country, yet when they know they have it enough, they say, "I have plenty." People's desires fill the valleys, rivers and seas fill the houses, though there may be plenty of food, yet they say, "I have not enough."Hence the Sage, when he is at rest, is hardly aware of his excesses. When he is busy, he is not in motion. He is detached and invisible, because he wants nothing.

Life on earth has its own way, and water is the path of destiny. Heaven and earth are the same as a flood does; thus they receive the way it wants them. The desires of people fill the valleys; the valleys fill people's hearts; thus hearts fill the hearts of people. The earth, when properly built, is stable. When natural forces act without any external cause, they become active; such activity comes to destroy, without hurting its host.

From the very earliest times people have understood that the Tao is real, and that is the same with the universe.All things are born of the Tao.As things are born, all things follow the Tao.All things have been produced by the Tao.Things come into existence and then pass away.For there are a myriad causes that bring things into being,All things which are born of the Tao originate and then pass away.Truly, the Tao is eternal.The universe is produced by the Tao.Things arise and then exist.That is why the universe exists.But the Tao is eternal and it is oneness with the universe.From the very beginning of creation all things began.From the very beginning of creation, every thing exists.From the very beginning of existence, every thing is produced.From the very beginning of production, every thing is consumed.Yet all things are produced without profit or loss.Wherever there is wealth, there are people, and where there is surplus, there are clothes.To understand that is to be happy, to be free, to be harmonious.To be free means to desire more and more.For that reason, one who is free from desire will always have more than enough.
<|endoftext|>
Tao is forever and ever. All things have existences. They have existed; and there is a cycle of existence. All things come into being and then decay. Therefore: Tao is eternal. The universe is eternal. Things have existed and then become extinct. They are existences of Tao.Tao is eternal. All things have existed and then cease. They are existences of Tao. Everything is conceived as existing but it is an eternal yet fleeting existence. Everything has existed and then is destroyed. Since there is nothing which is not destroyed, only those who hold to the Tao end up with more than enough.

From the very beginning, all beings were born from Tao. All things are born from Tao. All beings come into being and pass away. Hence: The Tao is eternal.The Universe is eternal. All things come into being and pass away. Hence: The Tao is eternal.The Universe is eternal. All things come into being and then perish. Hence: The Tao is eternal.The Universe is eternal.All things come into being and then are consumed. Hence: The Tao is eternal.The Universe is eternal.All things come into being and then become exhausted

The throwing up of legs is glad to be unsupported, yet the hind ends are carried.

"Hastening on the left, come ahead and stop."
"Hastening on the right, advance with abandon and follow behind."

High positions are when one's high strides lead on the smooth and doesn't let anyone step on his path.
As for a man to chop down the tall, the best strategy is to know the things you can do to get away.
The bravest man will only take a mere thing and give it away.
The best patricher will never offer it up to others.
Therefore, only a wise man is willing to take from others.
Only when the Empire has enough of what it needs can he use it.
A wise person is patient and doesn't contrive.
To him it is all the more perfect to be thanked.
Who can describe how to get the one and not the other?

Heaviness is the greatest tool. The greatest distance is the greatest blade. The greatest influence is the greatest bow. Earth is hard. Thin is the way. The greatest piece of earth is the greatest bow. A man is weak because he tries to get more by doing more. Since all weapons are used to take more, If you can't take what is there, Where will you go? Before he can use a sword or bow, he must first know what to use them for. The most important point to keep in mind when using a weapon is that the longer the draw, the stronger the blade. As for the point, use it! By using it, you are facilitating the ultimate strength of what you have already. And that is where one gets the advantage of the use of weapons. When using weapons, one is able to build the foundations of creation. If one is a clay person, and tries to make a big deal of something, by using this tactic, one gets a big deal of it. The first act is the smallest act. Only by being open to that which is small can one be open to what is great. It is the nature of humans to choose between being strong and giving an example. Lao Tze says,When men have become wise, they can know not the kingly qualities, for there is but one criterion for them, the following: They must employ it [i.e., the kingly] and need nothing more. They may be in great excess, and yet seem to be little. They may be in great want, and yet seem to be plenty. They may be great in favour, and yet appear in want. They may be greatest in need, and yet appear to be without merit. They who are in the King's service are compelled to display the best qualities, and to obtain merit. Even in showing little, they are distinguished. When those that are in superiority are in want of merit, it is just as well to give them less.Therefore the wise men are self-assured, so that they do not claim credit, and are unfailingly generous in self-sacrifice.This is because they do not wish to do honour to themselves;they accept no honours, but never receive a mark.This is the reason why they have no mark. How much less worthy than the Taoist [The Thinkers of the Highest degree] would it be if he had said: "I take what I give not in anything else but for the benefit of others! I take the things that I possess as I will, and take no pleasure in me!"In the next place it would be manifest that he who has the Taois is the most worthy of honourable men,and, more than any other man, is infinitely excellent to the kingdom.But the people all take the least credit from him, because they pay no heed to him.He is therefore illustrious, not because he is regarded as the most worthy, but because he does not contend to be as worthy as others.So when the Masters exercise themselves without expectation of reward, they can get the praise they desire; and when they are sufficient themselves for taking no credit, they can gain no fame.It is from this that the old men presume to praise their wise successors, and to act as

Great DE doesn't move a thing,Because it gets nothing done.He gets his loft lifted,He gets his weight lowered.He gets his possessions taken away,And he stays out of sight.He gets nobody to want to give him favors.That's how DE makes them useless.When a DE man wants to get something done, he employs a left wing.When a DE man wants to get his hands on something, he employs a right wing.If he is weak and burdens,He's useless to the world.To be strong and talented,If you let yourself be made weaker,You will lose the credibility of the world.For that reason, the sage doesn't follow expediency,Nor does he have his hands tied by expedient rules. "The gravity of the way is to be bent, While the brook is tipped to water."
The gravity of the way leads, But the river and brook should be left to their own ways.
The way of heaven is to hold back the heavy stream: The heavy stream it puts to waste; Where the weight of all its work falls, It takes no credit to be over-taken. The way of heaven leans back, But streams and brooks should stand on their own. The way of heaven inclines toward lightness, But the brook should be still and maintain its own plenitude. It is the lightness of heaven That refreshes and preserves; The darkness of heaven that takes credit. Is it not the whiteness of the way that refreshes and brings on the perfection? To know the Way is to know the Laws of Nature. That which is to be called Heavens Way -
and it is the lower heaven that makes the full bow the stillest bow. It makes low the high, takes what is taken, graces what is slandered.
When Heaven returns to the same way it will cease to be heaven;
When the way is maintained by the means of laws, there will be laws but not like this.
The laws which heaven gives may be varied, and may be restrained in the following manner.
Those who are dear to Heaven and wishing to enjoy Heaven, may rely upon it. Those who wish to keep away from Heaven and wishing to receive it, may resort to it. The lowliness of the Heaven upon which heaven rests and on which Heaven rests upon itself may be regarded as the principle of all else which is praiseworthy.

Those who know the Tao do not see its glorious side, those who use the Tao do not tamper with its mundane side. This is why the Tao has been talked of by the saints for well over a thousand years.The followers of the Tao are simple, not too busy, not too bright, not too soon, not too late. No more talk about what you should do. Let your course be always clear and calm.

Tao is not a model, but its image is in all men. Therefore, it may be just to call it The Mysterious.
If the Tao is not the model of all things, it can be treated as model of a being. When the Tao is not regarded as the model of a being, we can treat it as the model of a being.
Those who treat the Tao as the model of a being regard it as the model of a being.
Those who treat being as the model of a being treat it as the model of an uncarved piece of wood. When the uncarved piece of wood is cut up and baked in a kiln, it is raw wood, not the finished product. When we value ourselves too much we can forget about our self-esteem, our accomplishment, our accomplishments, and our accomplishments, and the crowd is left without knowing where to stop. If we don't work hard, we become exhausted. When we work hard we get tired. But if we don't care how tired we are, we will not get tired at all. When the Tao is attained,
anything is achievable. Tao is not an experience, it is the content of all beings.
Tao is a mystery, but it is

Abandon wisdom; be as a bowcarver. Acknowledge the empty; give and receive; master your heart, embrace and grow. Be humble, then lead by charity. Be sullen, then show your weight. Be proud of self, then lord the world.Who is willing to take no credit, he can be trusted; who is willing to take no pride, his work can be trusted. Who has no desire to glory, he can be trusted; who has no desire to show himself off, he can be trusted.
<|endoftext|>
The wise man is as wise as a mere beginner. He shows no shame when receiving. He seeks to draw a straw to achieve his purpose. He hides his true nature. He does not flaunt his worth. He shows no self-importance. He succeeds. He does not boast of himself. He never denies the credit he is due. He is no longer self-seeking. He does not regard himself as desirable.
<|endoftext|>
As for a wise one, if he is satisfied with unfulfilled objects, he will use them as the rope to bind an oak. As for the kind person, if he has no desire for self-discipline, then he will have no urge to force his will upon others. When he delights in getting credit for himself, he is unworthy of it. He is not worthy of it.
<|endoftext|>
The highest man is a charmer. Like an amateur a bowler can string a rope. He's unfailingly humble, the people he serves feel himself above him. He's unfailingly self-referential, the people of the world are convinced he's right.He's unfailingly self-centered, people see him as the mark of the first gift.
<|endoftext|>
The highest man's true nature is not sought, and thus no straw for rope is needed.Therefore the Taoist aims for no cutting and thus no joining.The soul of a virtuous man remains forever undisturbed, and no self-inculcated tool is necessary.Therefore the superior person is without shame and achieves successes effortlessly.The inferior person acts with pride, and people feel disdain for his achievements.Therefore the best person has no self-concept. He is always ready to improve, even in failure.

The teacher of Heaven and Earth considers the earth to be the Standard.Wherefore he puts down the [great] valley [by it].
Wherefore he puts down the Great River [by it].
He puts it to the test by drawing [its] limit round it, and draw [its] limits from it; He puts it to the test by cutting [its] cord round it; He lays it low with it; and takes away it from it. He lays it low with it and takes away from it. The man of the world calls this: "Wedge things down to their lowest square;
Then he seeks the support from it; And thereby works his policy. It is but that the Sage should govern by means of this Way, but he does not act in this Way,
And therefore he achieves his results.
Yet he asserts himself that the world may not look to him with approval.

It is the instrument of heaven and earth that it considers the great space as the limit of an army. Wherefore, when the great space is not used up, it may be used up. When it is used up, it is nurtured. When it is nurtured, it may be developed. When it is developed, it may be cast away. When it is cast away, it may be redeemed. Therefore, he who uses the great space does not find itself alone; he returns to it without desiring to be alone; he rejects it without wishing to be forsaken.

Who on earth can do what Nature does to the ten thousand things? Oh, heaven and earth have done the job. It is nature who provides balance. Foreknowledge is found in Nature. Foreknowledge is what returns where it is lacking. Foreknowledge is what takes care of what it has lost. Foreknowledge takes care of what has no need of being preserved. Foreknowledge is impartial. Nature takes no sides. Natural is unbiased. Nature's teaching is without prejudice. Nature teaches without concern and lacks a need to rely on its student.
<|endoftext|>
Who can accomplish what nature does by means of all the processes of his being? Being is the ten-thousand-seventy-hour principle in nature: it draws everything to its mid-point, and lowers everything to its lowest.
The Tao that could do this, alas! Would not be its perfect doctrine. It reverts to the origin: It reverts to the newborn.
It has a back-story: It is the mother of the male ten thousand things. It makes nothing unruly, inasmuch as it does nothing unruly. It has a front-story: It is the mother of the female ten thousand things. When things arise, it has nothing to spare. When things are depressed, it has nothing to spare. It has a rear-story: It is the mother of all things. The mother gives nourishment, And yet does not claim to be the father. It lays no claim to be perfect. The usefulness of a teaching, may be likened to that of water. If the teacher flows backward, it will be lost. The usefulness of a system is to hold fast to it, And while persevering, it will not falter.

Who can do what nature does by means of the ten thousand things? It is the Tao that provides the governing principle to the ten thousand things. Nature seems to be the source of the myriad of things, but does not restrain its activities.It also seems to act as a mother to all the myriad of things.Although it does not want to be called the mother, it is in accord with nature's role and functions.Nature never stands still.It does not deviate from the path of Tao.It acts without being concerned about its work.It acts without being concerned about its fruits.Its knowledge is impartial, yet its method is objective.The best teacher will be impartial

Before the Age of Reason: Heaven's Way was that it did not do what men do today. Do not then take others, using them as tools. Give to those who need it, take not by force. Take nothing, and nothing can be taken from you. In Heaven's Way: Take no from what is on the low, and take nothing from what is on the high. In human beings' Way: take no from what has plenty, and take nothing from what has insufficient. Use of the Way is like the ability of rope to be cut: it holds up what is high and takes down what is low, because it does not rely on itself.

The first of all the 10000 types of All-Knowing, the way it has never done anything, yet acts with complete tranquility and benevolence, and possesses everything, it takes, and neither does it possess, even the slightest amount.
The way it is with men: as though it are unsure whether it can take possession of them; so is it by people when it cannot capture them.
Why has the Tao been regarded with universal esteem, as the model for man's acquisition of manliness? Because it is impossible to control.
Its perfection is apparent: as though its form were that of a bow: it is that which has the bowsthe people.
The Tao's constant action is as follows: it never takes, but gives everything, does not take anything, only does what it can, and does not neglect what it has.
That which is discerning in its ability to act, takes as a model.

Abundance is the constant essence of All things. When something is abundant, it is a sacrifice to expand it. When something is hollow, it is a sacrifice to expand it. When something is high, it is a sacrifice to expand it. When something is low, it is a sacrifice to expand it. To reduce everything down is the eternal method of Heaven's Way. The biggest thing must be cut down first, thus creating the greatest amount of space. For example, if you want to reduce your business or residence down to an apartment, you must first cut down a lot of old, leftover wood and water heaters. If you want to reduce your business or residence down to a basement, you must first make a lot of old, discarded wood and wood planks. This is why the wise person stays away from extravagant shows of wealth and possessions. What is most precious is the present.

Happiness is found in abundance; and comes from without.Where is the other side?What is the limit?Hence, to learn the right path, take the easy path.Teach the job of everyone; only by this, the Tao will learn its own reward.What is the teacher's work?In bringing about the good, exposing the bad.As in war, when not much is done, much damage is done.People behave according to their collective nature.Where we dwell is not to be conquered, for conquering it will do harm to ourselves.Where we live is not to be abandoned, for abandoning it will cause harm to ourselves.No-one can have more than they need.Wherever we live, let us cultivate the life of the present.Take care that we never desist from this.

Abundance is the essential essence of the cosmos.
When all things are abundant, they all have to conform.
When things have lost their purpose, they all have to be augmented.
Therefore, where there is abundance is the beginning.
Where there is nothing is the end.
To gain abundance is the way to take the limits.
To gain nothing is the way to take the abundance.
To take the nothing is to be like the Tao.
How can to take the nothing (the endless world) be like the Tao?

When everything is overbearing, you can embrace the still.
When everything is chaotic, you can embrace

Heaven and earth act as string to the bowstring of life;The extremely high stand alone, and the very low also stand alone.Hence, Heaven and earth can be regarded as the strings for the bowstring.Therefore, the extremely high is not high in itself; It is elevated by taking away from what is not high; The very high is elevated by taking away from what is high.Thus, Heaven and earth can be regarded as the stringing of a bow,And the very high can be regarded as the pieces dropped on the ground.Hence, the very high is raised by taking away from what is low;The very high is raised by taking away from what is low.Who can take from what is low to give to the world?Only through giving it life.That is why the World's LaoTse is not content to rely on himself.

We ordinarily treasure the invisible heavens as the treasure of the wise. Heavens are the source of all things and the subtle wholeness of creation. Therefore, by not wishing to make an effort on behalf of these, we can always do the job of them. We value what is in abundance and willingly give it to those who need it the least. The virtuous will not profit by this. When the people are lacking in wealth, we offer them wealth to use as much as they need. When the men have enough to satisfy their needs, we will go about assisting the people in meeting their needs. Just as the Tao is put forth for its very purpose, and is put to use not by its own merit but by its use and not by its own needs, so the Sage is able to accomplish great things without desiring and without frittering away his success.
<|endoftext|>
The highest Heavens are the storehouse of the Tao.The tao is at the center of all things.Therefore,Keep away from giving to things and they will come to you.Always try to give to what is empty and only you will be left with a part.When the people are poor and powerless, you will help them.The leaders of men love what's in abundance.Heavens do not seem to have much to spare for the great work of the Tao.But it's done by the Tao and not by merit, thus it's able to achieve success.

All things come from Heaven. The Tao is at their center. The Tao does not desire them.Therefore, all things come to them, and benefit them. Therefore it makes no ado with them, as it were in letting them down from heaven.Truly, it benefits everything but not at the cost of the soul.

The heavenly paths do not depend on man to travel to the highest heaven. The way of heaven is to serve the world; hence they do not desire to make any big mess, But rather by their means, help to meet the multitude of things in their life-process.In making great things they need not boast.To those who have little, they would draw from. And those who are in need, they help.Therefore heaven alone is not overcome by what is great.

Let everything under heaven be made up of orphans, widows, and orphans. Govern them in the way of good governance, and you will be satisfied with the result. Let the human mind be a substitute for the heavens, and the humans may employ it: To the fullest extent, they would be satisfied by it. What may be the finest gifts and offerings to the people is made up of other things that spoil or have not a full supply: let the material force of heaven be kept away from the things that have not enough; let it be the support of the people in their works. And so, all people who follow the Laws of the Tao may become wealthy through it. This is to use it in good. Though he can live the way of the Tao without using it, he is at peace with what he has.
