He who governs a warlike nation overcomes the battlefield by (literally) not possessing weapons.
After victory the army is withdrawn.
Weapons are not required in a military, yet people are afraid to use them.
To keep oneself from committing a war criminal is to abide by the Tao.
Innumerable strategies are used, if all without success.
To make oneself ruthless would be to cease.
To begin is to die.
That is how even great war is a war of non-existence.
To lack an image of military is to be at war with yourself.
The noblest gentleman's body is not responsible for the body of the soldiers.
Their actions are at the command of the more important (superior men).
The army is not a house of mercy for the nobility; their lords do not receive orders from them.
Some actions may be taken lightly if they are impractical.
All the advantages of war are all under the influence of the enemy.
There are many a man who view war in a superficial manner,
and think only of war as their personal problem.
The army is not a place for the noble to retreat to.
It is not their house. It is not their abode.
It is only their duty.
It is only their way.
That is why its not war,
not true personal concern.
How they come to interpret war is the influence of the mind.
They are not wise.
They cannot see beyond the white lines.
Not understanding is stupidity.
Know this, you will be victorious
in every way.
<|endoftext|>
The rulers of empire do not attack the battlefield, but play defense.
A victorious war must be waged against the will of the victor.
If you are fearful of making a military mistake, you cannot play the master of the battlefield.
Some positions are well defended, others are easily defended.
Some people have no fear of the warrior, and this is why they are the master.
Other people are afraid of the warrior, so they are the prey.
Others are trusted, and it is their duty to serve.
Others are taken lightly, and it is their duty to lose.
This is the reality of war.
Of course, all war is done against the will of the victor.
That is why what you do is not good at war.
It is better

Whatever is sacred cannot be trifled with.
Its place is in the left,
The road to Heaven's plain.
If heaven had no desire,
He could walk.
He would have no need to move,
If he had need, he would be sufficient.
If heaven wants to shut out the small
It can make them small again,
If the heaven is exhausted
It can renew itself.
Therefore when the sage acts
It may appear foolish.
When other people act
They appear masterful.
When a great disaster strikes
It is those who are feinted who kill the whole edifice.
When a great disaster occurs
Those who are feinted soon cease to be masters of the world.

The Great Thinker did not wish to be the first in time.
He travelled in the Way,
To its left.
The road to heaven's plain
Was a path to heaven's left,
A path to heaven's left.
If heaven had no desires,
He could go the way he wants.
If he had need, he could be satisfied.
If heaven had nothing to desire,
There would be no one that would oppose it.
Whoever has desires,
Is defiled.
Whoever defiles, will be destroyed.
Therefore, the Great Thinkers always acted in accordance with their self.
They were always left alone.
They were always vigilant.
They were always alert.
They were always alert.
They were always ready to seize.
And they always had the ability to use them.
Because they had always acted in accordance with their self,
They survived even after the greatest disasters.

What was great existed at the right, at the left.
The Heaven road leads to heaven's left, the heaven of wisdom flows to the left.
If a desire for power was to keep you bound, you would have to walk left. If you had a need for constancy, you would have to keep to your natural state.
If a power would control you, you would be destroyed.
Power is what gets you destroyed.
Know you have no control. Be free.
When the lords and princes met
They had a common enemy,
the people.
After defeating that common enemy,
There was no new enemy.

The Old LawGives and confers a Power in Nature;The Power does not yet claim its Name.It is called Mysterious.
In it there are small things without numbers.These small things, have been done by the Power in order to make manifest a vital Power of action, and to provide examples for the next (Second). After a second Power is manifested, a power of action must follow.The next (Second Power) of the mysterious power is to cause the greatest disaster;This is to wish only to make the next Power that which is superfluous.The use of power of things (small things) has forced us to use force in the first place.We can find nothing that is not the advantage of force;It is the resort of the advantage, and the resort of the disadvantage.

Warfare is always initiation to killing, yet artisans of war embrace this peace as well.
One must not think of the first killing blow as "great"; the one who does not look at the world with pity and then return to the killing can win the world.

Fame lies in the very beginning of war
In weapons of war, nothing like him.
This is the great secret
This is the way of killing in war.
Only when the world itself does not understand its beginning
Is peace possible.

Brace yourself before your own acts
Break the hearts of men before they fall
Prevent your will from being restless
Spare your force from acting with force

One of the marks of a general will be that he spares the attack of the enemy.
The attack of the enemy is great, and he who perseveres cannot lose it.
The further one goes into the kingdom, the more he gains; he who devotes himself to the affairs of the state shall be the most honored person in the land.
Thus, that which goes in is great;
that which comes in is great; that which returns is great; that which begins to bring others around itself, is great, too.
This is called "the great mystery:" only when we are alone in the country, we can perceive the subtlety of things; when there are many in the kingdom, we can perceive the tenuous states of things; when the good is in the country, we can see their bad aspects. When the good is in the kingdom, we can see its loyalty. When we take advantage of the country, we can see its downfall.

One of the distinguishing marks of a general will be his absence of action.
The absence of action is the great secret.
He who attains his goal in quietude is as calm as the valley when there are neither travelers nor travelers' dogs to menace him.
He who achieves his goal with effortless control is as accomplished as an army general.
He who strives for victory yet loses his way is as old as the present.
He who perseveres yet wins no battle is as old as the valley.

When the men of the country are deprived of wisdom, or at least of keeping their own
selves the manner in which they know and love themselves, and are thus desirous to act, being unsophisticated, or even what we call self-willed, like robbers, or thieves, they are very ill-prepared for an attack on them; for they know only that they can resist it; but if they would resort to it, they would probably find it impossible; and if they attempted to attack them, they would be met with a violent counter-attack. If they had no weapons, and no marquis or lord, they would remain in a state of peace and security, which is impossible to break, unless they were ever in any dire need of it. Should these men then lose their constant semblance of felicity and cleverness, I say that, having even then resolved to yield, they would become perplexed and unhappy; and such a man as this is a danger to himself and others. A true warrior never looks sharp. A true bard never sings high notes. A true president never waves the white flag. Great calamity occurs when no one knows where the battle will end. A true commander knows exactly where to lead his army and how to fight. To gain glory for oneself does not benefit the cause. To gain glory for one's nation does not benefit the cause. Only one who knows his place will get victory. He who becomes leader by winning does not merit glory. He who wins a battle does not deserve a victory. A great battle is always won by the defeated. Yet the victor must have used as little force as possible. Therefore, the finest warriors always use their greatest weaponry. They only start a battle when others have been defeated. The best generals always issue a warning. The most decisive battle cannot be won. The greatest victory cannot be won by force of arms. The great victory is gained only when the victor accepts his defeat.

One who practices the great virtue sees how nothing is sharp; he who practises the great song hears how much sweet sound; one who practises the great bow hears how much white; one who practises the great work hears how great calamity will attend his undertaking; one who practises the great work embraces the great disaster and then throws up his arms.When the white appears under the sky there is a sudden manifestation of great calamity.When no one knows where the battle will be won, there is great disaster;when the soldier knows that the victory is possible, he understands that the disaster is unavoidable;when victory is obtained, the people therefore give him honour;and when honour is given, people then turn to him with care and fear.The sharpness of weapons cannot strike even a natural extremity.The use of sharpness, though it may result in the shock of all who encounter it, does not injure. It is the rule that the greatest misfortune which is visited upon a nation should be attributed to the left hand."And the greatest greatness of misfortune must rest with the right hand."Therefore, when the greatest power is employed, the people should be advised of it by means of the sword; when the greatest power is applied, the people should be advised of it by means of the crossbow; when the greatest power is employed, the people should be advised of it by means of the fleet.And the greatest power can only be exhausted when the use of force has

As you prepare to engage in a war, the ruler should also bear his responsibilities. Strength is not achieved by strength.

But if you do nothing, you can always be first, no matter where you are. Once the world is submissive, then one has no choice but to win. When the world is submissive, then no one is left to be conquered. When the world is submissive, then you do not blow the whistle. Always doing so makes it seem like you are losing. Whoever knows what blows his whistle is always victorious. Whoever knows the victory is always feared. When conflict prevails it is always an occasion for fear. Who knows what conflict is, wins the victory.

Watch for your adversary's moves in order to be surprised. All armies have intentions; few things are known or known only to be followed by an endless succession of half measures. Yet men are always late to the party.
Hiding their motives and inaction, such methods are cunning and effective. Disquiet the enemy and he will be dismayed. Unavoidable slaughter has the characteristic of always reaching the highest peaks. Something is always missing that must be fulfilled in a new situation.

The most likely are tired and faded. The most wanton are the poorest and most wanting. Everything that goes against the natural order is the leftover of an ancient misfortune. People with much teaching have more followers than people with little.
If the teacher cannot agree, stop giving him lessons.
If the teacher cannot persuade, stop feeding him.
If the teacher cannot correct, stop making sure he knows what he is doing.
If the teacher cannot practice, stop taking action.
If the student cannot be led, stop attending class.
If the student cannot be cared for, stop having faith in the teacher.
Everyone knows that being open-minded and accepting will increase loyalty. But is it so different from avoiding criticism and being cheerful, or is it just to be boring?
Do not look for words in stubborn phrases.
Those who practice the doctrine are hard at work, diligently, their message growing on them.
And those who continue to cherish the empty glory of their teacher need only remain faithful.
The finest teaching is but one application of the teaching principle.

The ruler of an empire holds the people and government securely. He forgets about being generous and gives them when they are most in need. He wants to be feared, and asks the people to fear him. When he tries to rule the people, his goal is never in spite of the desire to be feared. If he tries to control the people, they will always oppose him. If he tries to be the master, the people will always try to dominate him. So the ruler must keep himself in mind that he is afraid of all, And that all must be afraid of him.

If he does not have confidence in himself, he would be easily defeated.As a leader has no trustworthiness, if you have trustworthiness, there is no threat of losing it. Strength is more than a new name for old baggage. It is like water to old bones. Thus, a hard thrust to the bone wounds deeper and deeper.
<|endoftext|>
The strongest man never needs to be strong. That is what we mean by extreme.
The great conqueror, when no doubt ahead, retreats;
The man who overcomes, when no doubt defeated, is ever strong;
The great conqueror doesn't trust anybody, but uses himself;
The great conqueror is generous, and even he is too much;
The great conqueror isn't afraid to lose;
The greatest conqueror is always on the watch.

Great power is impossible for its possessor to have it.
What is the power that justifies having it?
It is the ancient One, what ever the One may be.
If that being is not preserved, it loses its power.
He who holds fast to the old is strong,
He who conquers is good.
What he is and doesn't hold can do him no harm.
What he is and doesn't care for is solid and inexhaustible.
All things in the universe have their value and their use;
And the ordinary human being as well as everything else has their value and their use.
The wise man has an image that he gives to everything;
And everything gives it to him.
The whole universe is also a mere image,
And the Wise Person lives them all.
He never loses his power;
He never loses his image.
The great idea is but the solid essence of things,
And the image comes from the substance,
The essence is the inner self.
For this reason, when one has the spirit of the universe, he can also be the ancestor.
He who takes the spirit of the universe as his basis, is also the ancestor.
In that way he can keep to his spirit,
and he can also be the beginning

Wise men are sensitive to each other's issues.
Faced with great cruelties the coward is afraid.
"If you lose yourself in sorrow,
your sufferings will cease."
Humble men tend to be a hundred times more intelligent than most people.
They have much better reasons for staying within their borders.
They seem to like their country better than they do.
They seem to like it less than they like to go back to their own time.
They seem to like this country better than they do.
Why do they like it less than this other country?
Why do they think this other country is better than this one?
They all have three things in common, which they love and prefer:
They love their country,
They like their countries more than selves
They like to be gay and unknown.
If you love your country and love your self,
then you will have the strength to stand by your country in disaster.

Humble men are naturally keen,
And though lovers of none to contend,
Cease to lament:
Their tears are drowse'd;
Humble people are as good a sightless;
As with blameless dreams.
A stranger with whom they meet,
The seeker of friendship,
Hasteth to stay.
Those who leave strife in opposition,

Those who are discerning for their road
Lost the clearest at home.
From passionate love can few endure;
From discernment lacking,
Many find but little home.
Who finds a home, is neither a stranger nor a home.

To love and cherish,
To shun and cherish,
To bear what he finds,
And not to lose his ground.

No sooner does battle cease than the loyalist supplies weapons with the words of resignation; Who with their arms hath the supreme power? The Sage makes none move, and follows his own course.

The best warriors do not fight, and therefore there are no weapons.
What does this say about armors? We cannot wear them, we cannot use them, we cannot use them (when) we are unsure.
Therefore the person of great wisdom does not fight.
He keeps his peace by himself, he follows his own path.
The good warriors do not fight, and so they are well equipped.
What is the meaning of "well equipped"? Weapons are often not the best weapons.
Weapons are a means of offense.
The best weapons can't be used offensively.
The good weapons do not use them offensively.
The best arms are not offensive.
The worst weapons can't be used offensively.
The good soldiers never want to be used offensively.
A well-disposed man is able to use the outcome in his favour, even in wartime.
Peacefully, one can see a conflict can not be left in peace.
The warrior sees things unfold, even after victory.
In non-war, he has more than enough to keep himself busy.
In war, he is a man of few words.
When one makes a killing one finds one comes back only in one's bellies.
What does it mean to lose one's bellies? The belly's place is not found in all places. The warrior does not act, and when all others fall, he stands tall.
Just as in a funeral, one may find one needs to weep.
Yes, those who fight with a sense of self-righteousness are not winning.
The reason these people get killed is because they are too self-righteous.
The reason they lose, well, maybe they have lost, too.
Hence the wise man lives only because he wants to live.
When you see there is no winning, you should be happy.
Always valuing you little because you can be more useful.
When, after battle, you turn your head to the left, you see you do not see the battle.
As the supreme being, you see that there is nothing you would not do.
If you are willing to put away what you have, you have plenty of time to enjoy yourself.

Whoever seeks himself will find his root. Whoever seeks completion will find depth. Whoever desires reality will find likeness. Whoever desires self is evil and powerless, Whoever seeks the world will destroy it. When earthly rulers were pursuing their ambitions they chose the paths of surprise. Why? For it is in the face of great enemies that we have the greatest opportunities. If your enemy is without foundation you have nothing to fight for. For those who fight with their hearts it is on the day of victory that victory is made.

Those who claim to be great Will find their root in the little,
Those who claim to be effective Will find their aim,
Those who claim to be the people Will conquer.
When self-interest meets that of the nation, it can be said that the struggle is not successful.
In this the basis is very clever: Those who retreat will find cover; Those who deal with their enemies Will conquer them; Those who pursue the goals will prevail.
Those who take their bearings with grief will have no ground to stand on.
If grief is not sufficient to defeat a battle,
Return to delight.

Who shall contend against man's strength?
He who devises plans of strength!
What he is best at does not last.
What he is best at conquers.
His designs endure.
His plans endure;
His plans prevail.
He who fights for the good of the people is victorious;
When he vanquishes a man, no one can stand in his place.
If these things are not sufficient to defeat the man,
Men will not use force.
To use force is not right.
To use force is not good.
To use force is against the natural law.
A nation that uses force is often defeated by the world.
Of men who know this, are they not people of deep and abiding faith?

Whoever sets out to conquer should not have to fear the strong. And whoever is victorious should never dare to humiliate himself.

The way of kings does not always follow the way of men. In the beginning the rules of etiquette were followed by the people; then came those of the ten directions. From that time on, the regulations followed by the people were followed by the ruling princes; And that which the ruling princes followed was given up to the regulations of the ancient rites. Those old rites are now lost, but as yet the ritual exists and has survived long after the ritual. This rite that survived for many years gave rise to the names: compassion, strength, or effort; and these are the "hidden" rules of the Dao.
This "hidden" ritual may well be called the basis of the Tao.

The humble status of the dispossessed,
The friendly character of the friendless,
The ease of profit
A decline in activity
These have a long provenance.
The people of old had no rituals;
It is now that the rites are unknown.
The rites of the older days
Are now the remnants of an old rite.
The remnants of a rite
Were left behind;
Only the pretence of a truth that could be tested.
Only that which can be tested
Is precious to the great Dao.
Always watch for soft things.
Always advise with sharp things.
Never yield.
If you rush to act and press hard,
It will fail you.
Once you have misjudged the enemy,
How can you trust anyone else.
The ruling prince is aware of what is important.
The great Dao is the same as it is simple.
Simple is the path of happiness.
Simplicity is the road to compassion.
How can you love another thing if you cannot respect him or her?
Therefore, the Sage acts without desires.
He acts with confidence.
He does not manipulate.
He lives in friendship with all.
Humble means to live well.
Humble means to be strong.
Humble means to be far away.
Humble means to be unseen.
Humble means to be similar to Tao.
Humble means to gain.
Simple is the way of Tao.
It is always in front.
It is the middle path.
It is the key to life.
It is the origin of the Tao.
To know the Name of Tao is to be like the Dao.
To know the name of the great Dao is to know the Ten

Ten times fewer men can fight than they can exercise weight on;Therefore it is better that they have neither arms nor fat.To employ them it is better to spare them; to employ them they must be worn out; to command them it is better that they lose sight of them.Now losing sight of them means they perish; loss implies loss of life; and the loss of life means they should perish themselves.

Dying is natural and inauspicious to what is Tao. Therefore, Leaders should be mournful.
Those who love to wield power not only spoil their governments but also the minds of the people. Is it not fair that a general would not use force to preserve peace and order? Should that not be the purpose of force? Whoever aims to manipulate the people by means of force will ruin his trust. Therefore, when leaders are most necessary, they should be mournful.
The Inner Self graces the Inner Way and the Core of the Way.
If we do not love our Inner Self we will lose it. If we do not trust our Inner Self, then even our Inner Self becomes the enemy.
If we cherish our Inner Way we will not be repressed.
Those who do not love their Inner Way turn their Inner Way against the Inner Way; Those who don't cherish their Inner Way turn their Inner Way against the Inner Way; Those who don't love their Inner Way turn their Inner Way against the Inner Way; Those who don't cherish their Inner Way turn their Inner Way against the Inner Way.

On the left, force is used.
On the right, fear is utilized.

It should be clear and not blurred by confusion.
Force should be forceful in using force. Force should be measured with a clear goal.
But force is never powerful, and if it is, it is dangerous.

What is heavy is knocked down.
What is done quickly is done.
What is direful is revealed.
The light thus manifests is black.
One who knows this can know the shadow.
Knowing the shadows is the secret,
the constant.
Now what is great?
The great doesn't make light.
What is small?
It is always bright.
What is far away?
Everywhere you see it, there is light.
What is great?
One who does not deal recklessly.
One who does not act recklessly.
One who does not interfere.
One who avoids chaos and conflict.
There is truth in what is said:
We need "something" light.
We need "further" knowledge.
We need "space" to behave ourselves.
We need "light" to distinguish between ourselves and what is without,
and true light to see all under heaven as it is.
These three relationships (wholeness of relation) come from the same source.
They are mutually reinforcing.

If a man looks at the Tao, it is seen as beyond comprehending. Not understanding it means he will not remain in the Tao. When the empire is defeated, he contends for it with no animosity. When he goes up against a rich, fine moor he grasps it with his hand. When he strives against the enemy he engages in a reasonable war.
To have respect for the enemy is to have a superior power. If you do not respect the enemy you will not be able to prevail in a contest with them. If you understand the enemy you will be not only humane but also kind. So, when choosing a lieutenant and leading him, favour his heart not his head, and don't expect much.

Those who succeed in governing in accordance with the Tao do not need to emphasize that point. The following are the main things: they are not essential, and when the army is in disorder it should not rely on force to settle the problem. In other words, when the army is in disorder it should not get a footstool and put it on a cart.
When the army retreats it should not go on a march to the four corners of the earth and to the four corners of the earth it should not make the great sacrifice.
In such matters the noble has no supremacy; he does not push the affairs he does not understand.
When four neighbouring armies fight each other, it is better to leave the ground of no opposition than to leave a base of no opposition.
When war is fought and victory obtained, it is advisable to lose the following reasons: one who has that superior principle could avoid defeat; a high executive could avoid calamity. In such matters the emperor knows and yet disregards his senior officers, and leads the state with moderation and knowledge.
To be noble is to have no superior principle, and to fail to have a superior principle is to have no inferior principles.
A general who has no superior principle has no inferior principles, and therefore he possesses in himself no faults. If a general who has no inferior principles is in war, he is superior to others, but when the war is over he is inferior to others, in that he is without fault, in that he cannot be separated from the rest.
The wise commander holds the world under his own weight, he avoids placing the world under weight.

They dwell in the depths of earth, within the people and yet never trying to take possession.In times of peace and security, peace is restored.
Whoever teaches others to be humble is bound to be one with the masses.Whoever teaches others to listen and then direct their own actions is bound to be one with the world.
"To be humble leads to a quietness; to be indifferent leads to knowledge; to be creative leads to action, to conquer leads to lamentation and so on" -This is called the profound subtlety of the universe.

Arms may be taken, but they are still the root of loyalty.
[One's] methods of love can be soiled:
Embrace a peaceful life,
While taking no delight in war.
For lovers in love,
Weapons are yet insufficient;
Pursue a peaceful life,
While sharing your arms;
Do not be at war;
In quiet moments you are luminous with love,
While you are at war;
Do you not delight in your victories?
If you have no desires for any joy,
Joy can happen in that peace you find
When nothing is aflame:
When peace is preserved,
In all that may happen.
People often crave fulfillment,
But gain many traumas
By being hungry for reason.
They seek satisfaction,
But gain much grief
By seeking depth.
They then hate their enemies,
While loving their close friends
And beloved family.
For the wise, fulfillment comes from being satisfied, and satisfaction comes from being empty.

When two hostile forces meet, the conqueror must use compassion. The use of compassion enables the conqueror to refrain from using force, To refrain from using violence. The power of compassion is the foundation of peace and harmony.The first power is called the mental (supreme) and the other the physical. The physical power which is called heaven. But it is the power of the spiritual power which is the world's foundation.If heaven's power is not maintained, then the world is lost. If you don't keep faith in humanity, then the world will fall into chaos. When the military uses compassion, compassion does not always work; compassion is a weakness. If compassion is weak, it will destroy a good army. Only great warriors use compassion; they are the military's great strength.
The wisdom of antiquity was founded on the knowledge that good men alone are good and evil men alone are good men and bad men alone are bad men. For good men all men are like these - true, evil. Bad men are like them - true, true, and false. Men are just like this. Yes, just as the valleys are like a river, and all the valleys run to the sea, so the great men of old have looked alike. For they looked alike because they were good men, and looked alike because they were righteous, just, and just. They looked alike because they were without pride, had many virtues, and were free from arrogance. When I say "this" is the "Heaven" it is because the good men looked alike, and that was how I can be sure I am in the right place.
In ancient times a good man was called intelligent and a bad man was called stupid. Smart people were like a good man and stupid people were like a bad man. He who is intelligent can find good. He can make a return. He can make a judgment. He can work hard. He is not afraid. In simple terms, he is pure soul. He has high spiritual vision. When wise people differ they are like the valleys on a river. People live in harmony and friendship and pride is not prominent. There is nothing like happiness in being stupid. Humility is the high state of mind. If a good man follows the Sage, he will be good. When a bad man follows the Sage, he will be bad. A wise man does not hate. If a good man does not hate, then there is no hope in hating, however hard he might try to destroy. The Sage

So the Sage alone abides forever
She makes no sound To hear her rules guiding all in the world,
And makes no sound to hear her statements of conduct.
This is because she hears and acts on her inner essence.
So it's perfectly natural to be like this:
To abide by the Tao, you must keep quiet.
To abide by the Tao, you must listen carefully.
To abide by the Tao, you must keep the light flashing.
To abide by the Tao, you must understand: "Here we come from."
To abide by the Tao, you must go by Tao.
To abide by the Tao, you must take:
"A kindly journey".
Been without heart; lost heart; lost heart.
And you are left where you are, and so far away, that other places may not seem so strange.
Hold to that which makes life tolerable,
And oneness of this world, you will be unharmed.
I stay with Tao - the Way, to follow Tao - the Path, to express it.

Take no care, for there is even more.
And keep still in that Which preserves Life.
Such a man will trust his senses And cease from acting out of Pride.
In that way, he will preserve his Humanity.
He then returns to this simple Abode of One.

The well-controlled man stays inert,
So that others do not feel disturbed.
Thus he should never resort to daring action and risks for daring action.
To keep the self-controlled man's [quietude]
He should not display himself or talk about himself.
That is the way to keep his self-control.
This [method] is effective for a number of reasons.
The Principle of Simplicity is employed.
No sound can be heard.
No sound can be seen.
This is how the well-controlled man retains the quietude.
<|endoftext|>
In matters of controll,
For things of big difference, the wise
Seem not to care.
In things of little difference,
The wise respect their own intelligence
And remain still.
This is their smart governance.
They trust their senses
And stay calm.

Those who are most clever will not grasp the ancient wisdom by means of conventional words.
Those who can speak and fail to grasp what they say cannot lead a state.
Those who are most cautious will not create danger.
Those who are most self-controlled will not struggle.
These are contrast, nothing to do with clever people or foolish people.
If one is clever, he is not clever.
If one struggles, he will not succeed.
Those who are self-sacrificing never fail.
Those who accept defeat never accept failure.
When the world is in disarray, there will be peace.
When the world is peaceful, the sage is within.
When the sage is within, he is most useful.
When the most useful are beyond their usefulness, there will be contention.
A state of conflict and strife produces discord.
When discord is controlled there is peace and harmony.

The learned ones (in the Way)
Do not use talkies
They cannot make sense of it all.
The talkies
Must not grasp the essence of the Way
They cannot lead a state.
The cautious ones
Do not presume to take the easiest path
They cannot prevail in the world.
The experienced ones
Do not choose the obvious course
They cannot lay claim to the true position of the country.
But when they have lost their way
To the light they reach, To the heights they establish,
Then they have achieved success.
Therefore: the things (of the world)
Will be in a troubled state after they have made their acquaintance with the Way
And once they have set foot in that State
Then the Dao will rise up from its throne,
And the Tao will be put to use;
If the Dao is employed,
Then it will be timely.
It happens that a decision is taken to help
Before the people are made to know the Dao
Then when people realize that Dao is effective
It will be timely.

If your son or grandson can't stand to understand something, he should not guide them. He's biased and he's misunderstood; he doesn't know the universe, so he insists on looking at things from the outside. But if you watch for the mark of those who have looked at the outside, then you will know the mark of those who have looked at the inside. This is the way things are, how are things made. When I have made the world the way they are, I have no need of talking about what I should do. Things arise and I take care of them. I love to help those that are in need of help. I have no need of recognition. To do so, is to be in the way, and is like the springtime!
Know what the universe is like, and you can know the great truths. Rely on your senses, and you will trust them. This is knowing the small and the great. Help others, and you will find support. This is knowing the big and the small. Savor the fruit of these two, and you will be benefited.
The finest person is without skill; the thinnest is skill. The strongest is without respect; the sharpest is without determination. They act without waiting; they govern by direction. Now, knowledge of the infinite is of no use for the superior, for the world is the fruit of his body, and the fruit is as fruit. He takes no delight in the sweet fruit, so that he can enjoy the taste.
Nurture your body, teach your mind, keep them in harmony, nourish them. This is eternal discipline, And the ten thousand subtle essences unite to make a perfect image of the self. It is not cunning, but harmony that gives them substance; It is not wisdom, but their wisdom makes them clear and bright. This unity is knowledge, and that is of use to the perfect mind.
Be wise, but do not be arrogant. Follow the Laws of the Universe, and you will enjoy all beings.
The wise leader is wise not for its own sake, but because it will serve the body and nurture all of humanity.
To the wise leader there are no special rules; for he follows the laws of the body.
If all life is within his reach, he is at peace, for all life is his.
Solitary in tranquility is in virtue, not action.
Action never indulges a desire, just as nature's strong winds are

In the latter times He who has neither strength nor righteousness wants to reject it.

In the former, People depending on him want to be strong and to conquer.

If a Sage wins, it is due to being clever and knowing his surroundings.When a Sage loses, his life is not his own. When a Sage wins, his life is his own. For him who dies, one dies in peace. To lose a child is natural. To lose a family is natural. When the Ruler is inconspicuous, his people are inconspicuous. The Sage is inconspicuous because he values the life of the people. For those who do not value life, life is lost. For those who are inconspicuous, there is no room for them. Not to shine is to shine. Not to shine is to perish. The famous makes no claim on people. When leadership loses touch with the world, people drift away, and drift away in a great many different directions. When such people return to a viewpoint of the natural world, he feels natural. A man with depth of heart

The sacred model is not an image, it is the Mother. A person without understanding how mother images appear should not try to be the model of her life. To be a model is to be the beginning of reality. Whoever accepts the model as the beginning of reality cannot be the mother of others. To love the beginning of reality is to have the virtue of never yielding. If the leaders of other countries should not love this, what virtue of them were they having? Who would dominate over those who did not love them? There is nothing greater than one who is of the model, and being not one of them should be of benefit to one's own self.

The sacred is not a thing like the sun, it is the Mother. A person who does not understand the nature of the Mother cannot be the guide of the universe. The guide of the universe is to conform without change. It is only when things do not conform that they become constricting. Constricting means that an important thing is born, and the importance of the birth is not determined by how much. The reason why the World seems to be going in the direction of disorder is that one's freedom is being violated. Being violated, one should desire to keep one's nature free from chaos. The means of being the Mother is to be free from being the great. Without being the great, one's person is beyond calculation. The means of being the Great is to not be aware of being the great. I am speaking of things that are not universal - each should be overcome, each should destroy. If one does not conquer something, he will surely lose everything. If one does not destroy something, he will stumble upon it, and as there are no adequate equivalents for a credit, he is bound to court disaster. Therefore when princes and marquises and barons and knights are forced to contend with each other and with each other's guests, they say that the wind and the torrent are not allowed to blow. The wisest policy is to avoid tension.
And even when you stumble you stumble only a little.
Parsimony, while tolerable, is not enough.
Manage expectations.
All inauspicious events should be endured,
and not repeated.
Princes and dukes and marquises and monarchs all contend to gain fame and glory
but fail in their task.
In the context of rivalry and conflict,
it may well be wise to rest.

He who follows the Tao can suffer no harm from it.
And the tao can be disregarded even though the process of Tao cannot be otherwise.
He who practices loving kindness to others cannot be hurt by love or grudges.
Who loves them cannot be injured by misfortune.
If he loves others, he will be also loved by heaven.
If he loves heaven, he will be also loved by earth.

Trying to manage the world in accordance with Tao is as dangerous as attempting to plan your next conquest. Even someone who has Tao as their constant teacher has no way of arresting Tao, and indeed Tao is all-pervasive, so that it cannot be controlled. To control Tao is to be a woman. To be a woman is to be one of the wandering hordes. To be one of the wandering hordes is to be one of the greatest forces. To be one of the greatest forces is to be in a state of great danger. To be in a state of great danger is to be in non-being. To not be in non-being is to be beyond all knowledge. Therefore in things like war, which are affairs of war, even the victor will not be enough to maintain the harmony. By not even winning a battle, victory can be given, by not even winning a battle, destruction can be inflicted. For each having without being, there is then the presence of the presence of that which is.

Tao can govern all things, but by itself it cannot achieve anything.Hence, one who acts like a student always will not be able to grasp Tao.Yet, to grasp Tao, one must first become human.Being human, one is without Tao.Therefore, being without Tao is to be a servant.Being a servant is to be the second of bandits.Being the second of bandits is to be in the inner world.Being in the inner world is to be able to overcome difficulties.Being able to overcome difficulties is to be lord over the world.Being lord over the world is to be beyond fear.Being beyond fear is to be infinite in Tao.The Wu of ancient times was like this: No one could have a powerful grasp on it.The passing are in the front rank, No one knows whose name they bear.The whole army cannot oppose them; Their strategy is to concentrate on the enemy's weakest spot.Great armies are flabby; They have no strategy at all.Nothing is conquered in war That is not a direct result of it.There is nothing less than this in the world.

Tao can govern everything, but only with effort
It won't last long.

Desire for an outcome
Is not sufficient
To regulate the flow of the Tao.
Simply to govern the world

When the Tao is subdued, people befoul themselves. When the Tao is greatly perfected, the people rejoicing become righteous. When this righteousness is no longer honored, the people are loathsome. This is the rule to observe in the administration of heaven and earth.Is it so that the people should desire death as much as do the feasting guests? That is what I have said: I will go out and not be front; I will go forth and not be rear; I will be out without having done anything; I will be back without having gone anywhere. Being untiring and not needing rest means one has no rest. He who does not rest will not die. He who dies cannot die in the world.

Forced your body to become new, the people will become 'People of the World.' Forced your body to become old, the people will become 'Feared of the World.' Forced the fear of the people to the all living, you will cease to have to fear them.To refuse to fear, and to endure, is to become old in service of the Highest Tao.The fearful is soon defeated by the glad.If you do not fear, you will not be held to.If you endure, you will not cease to be.

Forced your body to become old, the people will be inspired. Forced your body to become new, the people will be hungry. Force your body to become old, the people will become arrogant. A true ruler's approach of war is like a maiden. A truly great leader's approach of war is like an ass. A true man's approach of war is like a river. A truly wise person's approach of war is like a hole.
Heaven is the Valley that can never be emptied. Earth is the valley that can never be filled up. Spirit is the valley that cannot be maintained. True virtue is not described. It has no name. It is the mysterious state of the void.
If you know no change, you can foresee the future. If you know change, you can predict the future. If you know the mysterious, you can dwell with the mystery.
This is a truism. Men and women alike use it.
The door leading to the Tao does not need a gate; it is a gentle flooding.
The Tao is always at the root of the soft waters.
The Tao does not need to be named. It is always present.
Let the deep in you not recklessly
Carry away your hold on any thing
You will gain the fullness of life.
The Tao, hidden in the depths,
Of all creation,
Can never be plucked from its ground.
Its power cannot be grasped;
If one takes hold of it,
One will lose its root.
A light body flows, But a dark one muddies its surface.
The ancient Tao holds fast to the light
And in turn echoes that of antiquity;
The power that flows from it is not of itself strong;
When it is strong, it is highly valuable.
If you are dark and subdued,
The power of the Tao is not with you;
But when you embrace it,
It becomes your constant life.
The image of Tao is quite different from the actual one.
Different names and their comparisons are difficult to distinguish.
For that reason, we say,
"Man's use of Tao in war may seem excessive;
Like a military gateway, it is not a natural door, but a handle."
The words that seem to describe Tao may seem to go against the word 'absolute'
The strength of Tao cannot be comprehended;
It is not the mysterious essence of Tao.
The profound and the ordinary do not differ from each other;
The extreme and the ordinary do not differ from each other.
The absolute, like the ocean, can be accessed without letting go of the boat;

The emperor's sleeves may be unwieldy; but the sword cannot weaken his hands. When one issues his orders to men, how much ingenuity must there be to keep it straight? How much cunning is there in how to use force without using it? How much insight must there be in the greatest weapons before you can use them? I dare not be the host, and therefore will stand as my guest. I dare not advance a step, and therefore will retreat a foot.

It is impossible to see anything;
With the mind on the horizon,
It is impossible to distinguish anything.

But to wish for nothing,
To have no reputation,
And to be the host's guest.
He who holds to this is, indeed, the best in all.

If you fight for winning and losing, you'll never win and there won't be a winnable time. If you can't grasp the bottom of it, then you're not bright enough to hold on to it. If you accept losing as your own inner truth, then you'll never recover from it. This is how everything is so difficult to comprehend.

To care for the world is to care for the world as if you were its guest. To advance is to retreat a foot. This is the practice of being without action and then not doing. Being without action means you don't have to do. If you don't have to do, you don't have to be. This is called the way to doing without the desire to do. The desire to do means to do what is necessary. This is the danger in wanting to be master of things. If you want to be master of things, you will be master of nothing. Thus, to care for the world and to care for the world as if it were your guest is to care for the world as if you are a guest. To be the way is to be the way for the world. If you are the way for the world, you will not be able to prevail over the world. This is why to care for the world and to care for the world as if it were a guest is to care for the world as if you are a guest. To be the way and then not to be the way is to lose the way. If you lose the way, you lose the wisdom. Thus we say that the world is only won through evil and loss, but there is no earthly day when the world is not won through the good. If you want to be the good man of the world, then you will have to be the bad man.
<|endoftext|>
When you take care of the world, you become the world's guest. To be ahead of one's time, to advance ahead of one's time, is the same as to retire. This is called retreating without advancing. This retreat without advance is not called retreating. Retreating without advancement means to be without favor. This means to have no favor. To have no favor means to be forced to act. To be forced to act means to have no ability to do good. When there is no ability to do good, it is said that an army will never win. This is called the wisdom. When a soldier has no

The lord ruler has this saying: "I will not brag about my position, but will say only,

Most learned men understand the difference between mere means and the substance of being. They are not informed about the difference between being and non-being, because they do not know this. That is the real distinction. Wherever there is life, life should also be free from conflict.

The malevolence of a ruler in their ambition to control others can't last long. The ability to enforce laws and rules can't last long. The man of the Tao never honors his guest. He hardly calls him a guest.
Not daring to make a show of himself, he stays quietly and calmly in that position for a long while.
When he meets another man in his front, he does not show himself, yet talks softly and quietly.
When he meets with his left, he does not insult him, yet calmly says: "I am afraid for you, sir, I am afraid for you."
When he meets with his right, he does not show himself, yet calmly says: "You are my friend, and I am not afraid to lose you."
Therefore he is tranquil, yet does not show himself.
If the battle were to break out, he would not attack, but would remain silently, calmly and deliberately as the guest.

The Grand Father: When nobles meet their guests, they can have no hostile word.
When they are at home, they are delicate and mild, while when they meet the enemy they are cautious and retiring.
Thus it is said: "The gentleman, when he is at home, is peaceful, &c. when he has his residence in the front, is subdued, when he is abroad he is retiring."
If war should break out, the guest would take no sides, and the gentleman would be the one to offer his arms.
This is what they say: When the guest is guests, it is best to guard the left, if at home it is best to guard the right.
When war breaks out, it is better to be in the left, if at home it is best to be in the right.
For this reason the gentleman, when at home, is calm, gentle and retiring, and when at war he is glorious, glorious and retiring.

The superior, being the host, loses nothing by it. When people travel with him, he does not assert himself; he is like a valley guest, like a gentle host. When the enemy has met him, he does not make a show of himself.

Hence the earth dwellers lead the world and the fruit thus comes to all who drink from their water. The primeval country dwellers lead the world and the fruit thus comes to all who drink from their soil. The Wise Person takes a simple pleasure in life and therefore abides in the world. It is the constant custom of the Sage to yield his fruit to no one. This is called serenity and profound impartiality. This is called the yielding to no one. This is called keeping the faith. Thus the country will be fed with fruit as well as the Sage, and the world will be fed with peace and harmony.
The Master forgets but acts with force; the Ten Thousand do not care about this. The mighty action is accompanied by the will to calm and quiet yourself. To abandon desire and aim for quietness is to accomplish accomplishment. This is called a kind gesture. The vast universe has its own laws. The Ten Thousand know these and act on them without concern.
Thus: the Earth lives in peace with the Tao, and lays down no rules to govern it. This is because peace is how it is. When the Tao is fulfilled, the Earth is still, but also does not abolish its quiet actions, so it can feel peaceful even without walls. The All Things live according to Tao, and thus the Earth has its peace, but also acts with quietness, so it can love all beings. The wise person listens to the Nature's law and acts accordingly, and thus all lives in peace. This is called unforced spontaneity. But when opposing forces collide, he does not respond to fear.
He strikes, not seeking the glory.

Therefore, he looks for nothing, yet does not see the failure.

When you take an enemy as your enemy, you are unleashing upon them what you've done against your will.
When you use goodness as an enemy, you are bringing your deeds to an end.
Therefore, the sage, when he meets people, seeks to make them his friend. When he is winning an argument, he tries to spare no words.
He then turns to inaction, and has no response. If he lets this result, he laughs loudly.
If he lets it not last long, he loses his guts.
This is the rule of All Things: when victorious, say no more, when losing, lose nothing.

If the warrior does not fight, he won't die.
If you let go of weapons, you can keep them.
If you stay passive, you will lose to your enemies.
If you do not attack, you will win.
Therefore, when you are at peace, you will have contentment.
Then you can bring about great events.
When people act wisely, they achieve great things.
When people act foolishly, they lose their lives.
Therefore, remember to become content, and you will remain content.

If the warrior would not fight,

If he never lost his dignity,

What is evil is not to act
If you do not fight.
If you know the value of inaction,
You cannot be taken advantage of.
A few strokes of the sword will not harm you.
Few feet are not to be mastered.
A powerful army has no command
When the leaders find peace.
When the soldiers do not fight,
Peace may prevail.

Wealth is the root of evil. That which has its source is not virtuous. Do not court the mighty, but fear the humble. Do not value honor and wealth above all else, but trust the weak. Do not fight for glory, but accept defeat. Never want to gain and will lose.That is why our ancient Te says: Do not dwell on wealth, but on the root of goodness;
Do not allow yourself to appear to be famous, but in reality be low; Do not love your possessions and possessers, but have good works.
Do not be always self-interested, and can you be a general?

Of last resort is the holy,
The greatest treasure is the lowest,
If you love not the chief, you will feel at home with the humble.
You don't chase after wealth,
And you are at peace with your fellow man.
Do not strive for greatness,
If you are defeated, the credit will be lost.
For this reason the ancient masters say:
Do not treasure one's food,
You will have enough food to last you for a long time.
Don't love the group like gold,
And be content with the lowly.
Do not attach yourself to the worldly things,
And you will become a constant.

The greatest treasure of the world is the lowly creature.
If one loves not the chief, he will be one with the humble.
Don't treasure a rarefied personal appearance;
and so you'll be satisfied,

Lest you see well that nothing is precious,
you'll be satisfied with what is low.
Do not be ambitious, but content yourself with being the average.
Keep your ambitions low, and so you'll be satisfied long.
The folk of old said:
'Hold on to the noble seed;
it will never perish.
Keep it low, you will always be rich.'

Long ago, even the ruler spoke of winning the battle, without considering the battle be- tween.
If the victor were not the one he held, there would be no victor.
Is the battle a battle between good and evil?
The good will be the good,
The evil will be the evil.
Good will have done good deeds and the bad will have done bad deeds. Good deeds and bad deeds have been happening for long.
If good deeds are kept and bad deeds are avoided, what are they?
One does not accumulate enough valuables to accept misfortune.
One who does not accept misfortune can never be unlucky-free.
The ancient sage called it:
"Going forward but not forward"
"Making much of your successes"
"Not giving in and retreating"
"Being aware of one's own being"
"Continuing with one's action as the next to good"
"The way to a glorious victory"

The body can only do so much and then collapse.
How could it be the body alone that brings things to its destruction?
From my own experience, I can see that it comes from within.
One who brings things to destruction is bound to have an inferior body, and if he does not know this, he will be unable to control himself.

Gainful people are reluctant to act.So they create a situation.Hence they grab the front, they divide the block and work on it.Because they don't look for success,They never lose them.When things get hot,They step down to the comfort.Hence we say: The smart leader will lose the war,But the people will lose the war.That's what I mean by 'By losing the war, the people will lose everything.'Therefore a successful leader will lose,And a good leader will lose by losing.The smart leader will lose,And the good leader will lose by losing.The smart leader won't lose,And the good guy just loses.Good strategies are soft.Soft strategies are ruthless.Rage is unlimited.The good goes beyond evil.Rage doesn't want to be bad.Bad is a lie.Bad isn't good.Good does not exist.Lucky things happen.Not knowing what is happening,You look for it.And the result is no longer the one you wanted.Therefore, the master when overcomes an opponent,Holds his victory with his arm and not his fist.Indeed, the victor does not boast,Holds it with a tone that is toneless,While boasting of victory,He throws down his arms and walks out.It's that his true nature has been expressed.But no man can know this!One who knows it is recognized by all.For if one knows, one can choose.

A knight or warrior wins a battle, not the victor but the loser. The world owes him their lives. The gentleman has his honour, but as soon as no one recognizes him, he withdraws to the side of the lord.
They who have no cares and are humble lose their honour.
The sage wins the battle by winning not by winning.
The warrior dies saving not by saving.
The chariot's bellows is but a frail vessel: it cannot break it: it cannot roll it: it cannot be opened to them: it cannot be given to them.

When there is a subtle embrace it is well known by him to be a penetrating one. When a knotted cord is pulled, it is well known by him to be that which sticks. When there is ice on the ice, there is a deep ice. What follows the great hurricane makes people tremble. When he opposes, a great loss is made. There is nothing worse than knowing what is coming next. Things will not perish when they are left on their own.

Those with foresight are much better than those who are not. They are well aware that people who go on like this will not endure and will not prevail. The people can do what they want. However, I declare that by being cautious I am tranquilizing the masses. Just because they are alert does not mean they are wild. If they would hang on I would let go. If they were excited I would reduce their number. If they were agitated I would bring them to rest.If I am successful, I do not make a big show of it. If I am successful, I do not stand out from the crowd. If I am successful, I do not arrogantly proclaim myself victorious. If I am successful, I do not act so well. A wise man does not take action, but does so with strength.

Those in front advance cautiously yet never turn back,
Those in the rear advance cautiously yet never turn back.
They are not competent to act; they are competent to rest.

The best warriors have no brawn;
The best swordsmen have no frames;
The best armors have no weapons;
The finest travelers do not move a single stone.
Therefore the wise avoid confrontation;
No danger comes to them.

The skillful commander leads from the strength of the will. The tactful commander always tries to respect the master's weak points, so that his actions are based on something natural. The master never uses force to subjugate others. The weapons of the master are not the bellows of the head. They are not lance of wrath. The master does not deal with the world as the world is dealt with by people.
<|endoftext|>
The best weapons are instruments of little use. The best soldiers are not really strong at all. The best warriors are impractical, impractical, impractical, impractical. The best swordsmen have no power at all. The best military generals are never informed of their abilities; they only seek force when the people act like dogs. Their tactic is always calculated to be forced. Their last resort is always forced. They never take the easy way out.

Good military discipline is not the arm's-length restraint of power.
Good conduct requires little trouble to follow

What is so interesting about the peaks and valleys of the world?It seems so natural, but it is always in conflict.So, all things in existence have existed before man appeared. Things appear to have existed, but then became extinct.It is for this reason that one cannot judge of the un-existence of an un-existing thing, yet one should not try to judge the existence of an existing thing.

The highest has its ills, but its treasure is hidden in its own nature.
For instance, the valley we call Spring,
Be it not on the far side,
We treasure the Valley of Life.

Rather, is in abysmal position:
His son, in this,

The highest form of Tao is Tao itself.
The natural way leads to Tao.
The way aspires to Tao.
High mountains form the foundation for Tao,
And the springtime brings blossoms and flowers of all things.
Things are ruled by Tao, and its utility depends on the way one governs them.
If you rule your own life,
You will get no benefit from this Tao.
If you rely on the laws of nature,
You will be destroyed, and you cannot

When scholars said: Only kings use weapons, people thought: Thus the weapons will fall. Yes: He is inoffensive; inoffensive is victorious; inoffensive is victory in the state; Inoffensive is using arms in order to win a battle. In order to win a battle, he must have weapons; In order to win a battle, he must be constantly in motion. If you don't have time to rest, and you go forward to win, then you have no superiority; If you go forward to win, you will gain nothing. Therefore, the skillful leader is active, knowing how to keep in motion the forces and even the country.

A general has nothing to show; a soldier has no head to show; a fool has no view; a man of sense has no self.
And so the sage becomes the fool and the fool becomes the sage:
Which is to know when to stand on the right, and the losing when to retreat on the left.
Thus, the ancient sage sees his own nature, and his own limitations.
The modern sage sees only the world as a world, and the world as himself, and himself as the world.
Now, with both are equally made,
It is said that knowledge is always waning in one's pursuit of Tao.
To know Tao, one should observe not doing doing. To observe doing, one should observe going on the right.
To observe going on the right, one should observe going on the left.
To observe going on the left, one should observe retreat to the right.
To retreat to the right, one should retreat to the center.
To the left is being obstructed.
It is to the right that one must keep one's body, and to the left, one must go on the left.
And it is both these two actions that cause disaster,
so the wise man skilfully puts them into practice.
<|endoftext|>
The general of an army does not try to show superiority, but acts as a guest.
He does not attack and aims to win; he does not waste his energy and moves to win.
He is incapable of mounting a large army because he does not have time to dwell.
To the contrary, the army general who has mastered the Tao uses it to win the war; the war he does not enjoy.
For a gentleman who does not have leisure, a vast army is the most

A warrior is fit to be a soldier
Even though a good and gentle person he has great power, and even though he could not be the kind of person that others are, he wants to be a soldier.
Only when he's homeless is he in need of any violence; he needs to fear no foe, and without the need of arms he is like an ocean. He doesn't care about his person.
No matter how hard the battle is fought it never gets old
<|endoftext|>
A great general of the world is eternally a gentleman.
Yet he chooses to play the part of a lord.
Who is a gentle leader should never be hard to control.
He cannot win the battle without war;
It is by not losing that he can win.
If he were to fight constantly, he would burn up before the end of his power.
What is the greatest advantage of men that we notice?
By not wishing to fight, we can take possession of the multitudes.
To wish to fight, we should have to be ruthless and violent.
If the battle are long fought, they will not last.
<|endoftext|>
The senior officer is a gentleman, as a gentleman's gentleman.
He never blows himself up, nor reckons it upon himself.
He knows that violence cannot win the battle,
But conquest brings benefit.
<|endoftext|>
A great general of all the world is like a gentleman:
He always seems well-mannered, never spoiling himself;
Yet he never overcommands his force, and never loses his places.
He fears nothing but his own body, and even then, he never ceases.
So if the battle-front has not been won,
If it were yet, by violence, fought,
He would retreat the more easily.
When the times of war are long-continued,
They never lose their advantage.
<|endoftext|>
A great general in the world is like a gentleman.
He does not show his macho arms,
but shows them like the guest.
He does not need them, he keeps them out of sight.
He can be overcome without war.
When his army has reached its limit, he never resorts to arms
To use them to continue the struggle.
It is right that men look up to a gentleman.

The best general is always in position, and the first he lets go of. The best fighter is always in range, and the first he lets go of. The best leader is always in charge, and the first he lets go of. It is only by letting go of that which is as superfluous as your own self that you can rely on what is necessary.

The greatest generals have their peaks as far down as the valleys;The greatest warriors have their peaks as far up as the valleys.The best leaders have their roots as far as the sea.What an insignificant need is there to havea substantial army?Even if you are fighting, don't think about it:Just think of winning.To think that you will be able to win is to forget what it is to fight.To lose the battle is to forget what it is to win.

The greatest general has a dominating position in the World.The greatest warrior has a dominating position in the World.The greatest sage is at one with Nature, at one with Tao.The least has a leading position.If you don't lead, the others will follow.That's why,The greatest general:Has a position near the sea,Has a position close to the valley.Has no roots or ground.He lets everything go by itself.

The best general is always higher than the subordinate generals. The best warrior is always higher than the subordinate warriors. The best con artist is always higher than the con artists. The Lord has a place in the World as far as the Cosmic Laws. When one does not follow the Cosmic Laws, Heaven's laws will not be fulfilled.

That is why the Kosmic soldier says: The weaker the army, the less will be the strength of the commander, and the higher the commander's dignity, the less is the presence of the army. The better the group, the more the heavy will be on the leader, and the greater will be the strength of the leader. For, when the battle is won, the people will say: "Oh! We have met bandits, but we did not fight. This is the end of the doctrine." For the doctrine implies the victory, whereas when it was lost it implies the defeat.
<|endoftext|>
"Prefer your word to that of others" - So the impartial one acts as if a guest. Those who have no skill might throw their weight behind a mere subordinate - Those who have the most skill will discard them. Those who have the greatest ability discard them. Those who have the greatest power abandon them. Whoever is sparing endures; who has the greatest position endures. For those who seek an easy victory, no one is likely to contend with them. The friendly force of a great nation, never able to attain victory, will throw them a surprise. The military leader, since he has no enemies and invites none, has in a manner a prosperous victory. For this reason he is the one who resorts to the mildest speech. When he wins the battle, his leaders consider it as a rite of passage to return. Therefore the military leader to the end takes care that he does not aggrandize himself. His words are the foundation of his authority. The kindness of a leader, though not necessarily the kindness of a king, is more genuine than the king's kindness.
<|endoftext|>
When a man of knowledge has the greatness of nature in his mind, he remains untaught by what others have in mind. He acts without becoming conscious of himself. His superiority cannot be displayed. He does not press for his will; and he has no ambition. When he has a victory, he is not a petty general. He has the greatest port in his heart. He is as it were a natural superior, and has no ambition to rule over men. He is as it were a natural inferior, and has no desire to rule over men. He has no ambition to win glory for himself; but when he is defeated, he has no ambition to keep his dignity. Such a one (the so-called loyal general) has no desire to assert himself by force.

Nuts are best. Soft muscles are best. It is best not to jab hard. If a thing is upset, it is time to watch it and see it grow, grow, grow. When things are helped, they are helped by me. If there is nothing else to be done, they are finished.

When two armies are joined together in war, as for instance to take arms, I do not insist on imposing my will,
but let my troops do as they see fit.
When I protect a dwelling, I guard its doors,
and when I defend my houses, I defend their foundations.
Those who take up arms do not intend to assert their power. They are winning when they use arms.

Striking at an enemy with an axe Is best. Cleaving with an axe Is best.
Not swiping hard, but blowing it gently, Then it grows;

Winning against the foe With no conventional weapons Is the best.

When peace is spent at a martial outpost, I reserve my fullest force for this glorious sacrificial rite. Do not seize your adversary's right hand, but brandish your left! Never strike a blow, but continue to move.

When killing a foe, preserve your ability to come and go

The gentle way does the best to contend with
a force that drags after you.

Before you venture to fight,

When virtue is weak in you, you should gain strength from the forces of your nature. When you are active, you should be with the forces of your nature. The strength of a small group of men takes the strength of a nation and destroys it. Without victory, victory is impossible. When you defend, you have to give up. When you attack, you have to resort to force. When you are defeated, you have to be victorious. Never surrender, never achieve a triumph. This is called the Ten Trigram way of conduct. Do not be determined by successes or failures. Achieve without striving, be weak without being strong, be in harmony with nature, become empty and receptive.
<|endoftext|>
When a strong being is sick and weakened, a superior being comes to support him. When a struggling force is strong and strong cannot overpower it, a superior being takes it. A victorious army should fight without being defeated, but winning with means of no-calming in order to weaken it. The weaker the army is, the stronger should be the conqueror.
<|endoftext|>
One who is full of virtue shouldn't glorify man's strength, nor stand by with arms, yet when it comes to action, that strength should be used; one who is strong but not pleased should take what has come to be their strength; and one who fears what will come to be their strength, though the people do not know it, has hardly the strength of a conqueror.
<|endoftext|>
Dealing with unfailing violence, force to bring to an end. An army of one person opposes force of another person; In war one person must have the intent to contend but cannot achieve [in war]; One who fears an enemy is supreme in conquering. So whoever is in earnest about being a conqueror is unyielding in his victory. What matters in the end is that one who does not dare take a victory spoils it. One who spoils a victory spoils what he has in mind when he conquered.
<|endoftext|>
Confrontation is the very essence of war.The strongest opponent is the weakest we have.If your enemies are strong, that means you have to take them on yourself.If you have nothing to lose, there is no place for weakness in your strategies.So for you it is a matter of honoring the fight.In the end, a victory is only a personal gain.

Without the attack he who employs it is like a river.He who makes use of it, like a swollen spring.He who anticipates, like a raging whirlwind.He who lives with it, like a valley.He who values it, like an uncarved block.Therefore, those who can conquer (general campaigns) by non-involvement,Will also overcome (nearly) any enemy that may oppose them.For all wars are conflicts of non-action.It is a circumstance of deep sincerity which may be, though abortive, one of decisive power.Therefore, he who has not won a war, needs not to indulge himself in it.Therefore, when a general army happens to come under arms,The captain of the army, whether mounted or not, remains quiet, So that those who would oppose him may not draw arms from him.The 'peaceful' way, too, yet that of the warrior, after all, is a victory;it is in conflict with others that this sign of honour is most appropriate.For whatever is found inside the man, is the treasure of all he possesses;he who can display it is a man of enduring significance.
<|endoftext|>
The one who rises in the morning does not march.The one who rests in the valley does not pour water from it.The one who brings back fish from deep water does not pound them.This is called "out of harmony" The ordinary man has to deal with things naturally, the Way obliges him to do so, but has no choice, he does nothing that is not forced.Not inflexible, not hasty, not imposing, the method of an unheralded soldier is the best.For when his army is in battle, he does not send his weapons out with bellies full; the true gentleman, never present, makes no public appearance.For he receives them without ceremony. He can conduct a battle as a feast, as a valley pool in spring, or as a cavern of ice under the earth.For the abundant and the soft that can be filled is the treasure of man's body.One who maintains it does not wish to be respected.Therefore, when there are great armies and oceans, one who's wise is at the fore; he does not form a crowd, he does not open his doors, he does not exalt himself, he does not make a spectacle.He is not outgoing at all.

In olden days, no one grudged death lightly.When no one grudged death lightly, there was no need to be reckless about it.So, when there is no danger of conflict, and when the noble is no longer belligerent, then there is no need to be reckless.No one grudges death lightly; he who grudge death grudges his strength, which he grasps for the loss of his life.The strength he grasps for the loss of his life is his aggression, so being aggressive is to lose his peace.In not acting recklessly, there is no aggression, there is always peace.

If someone claims that there is no need for heroes and heroes destroy them! Such person can no longer be heroes!Hence, if one does not dare to show one's power, who would dare to destroy you? So, one who claims his power lacks and his strength has.Hence, he who boasts of his power loses what he has.Hence, he who claims his power has lost what he has, and he who claims his strength is free from danger.Hence, he is at peace.

"Those of old who feared the rulers and ruled from benevolence saw nothing. Those of old who feared the rulers and threatened did no harm. Those of old who feared the rulers and were conquered do not need to fear the neighbours. Being conquered, it must be done through conquest, and even then the loyalist remains weak.Hence, it is better to be neutral, then to act as a battleground.We see the wicked one as enemies to the virtuous one, and to the other they are the calamities to them. By not wishing to be conquerors, we may be helpful, or, in this sense, neutral, we can do non-interference.

How do you overcome an enemy's weapons? Use the Peace.
How do you lose a friend's trust? Use the Way.
If the armies meet and the Commander does not use the Peace, then war will be without a victory. If it is not a peaceful day, then the battle cannot be done.

To defeat the army that surrounds one, one must first conquer.
To take a great victory does not mean you will lose the war.

To lose a war is to gain a victory.

In times of war the leader's true mission is never stressed. His whole-hearted approach to peace, his doctrine of justice, his humanitarianism, his universal brotherhood: none will divide him in peace!
<|endoftext|>
The Merced Chieftain said,Since we have three thousand arms in this land, the world cannot possibly try to be strong in our hands.
In other words, the conquest of the world is accomplished after the conquest,
and the loss of the world is accomplished after the loss. This is called the principle of non-violent action,
and the opposing arms are as we have on land.
We do not go to the arms-display, and use them only to arm the army in front.
No violence has ever yet been committed upon us by any man, and the whole world has never thus despaired.
Therefore he who says that things in this world should be hard in order to be strong,
just means that he is already the strong, and is not able to be soft.
Things are hard because of the development of forces in this world.
Force makes us hard, yet is neither hard, nor soft. A man will not bear unbalanced forces, such as the war.
Yet if he knows that unbalanced forces will bring calamities, he has nothing to do with them.
Indeed, he who takes the war lightly simply is not able to be true in what he says, which brings me to his (the Merced's) second duty.
It is that I am in favour of conserving (others), and to avoid being extravagant in my words, and does not seek to be the measure-master, nor does I presume to be on the left side of the path, but that I prefer the right.
This is why the Merced said,When princes become officers in war, one could consider that he has lost his own duty (in the rites of laissez-faire).
When states are robbed of their feudal relations, one could say that the feudal relations will then cease. This is precisely the nature of things; we have given him the good, and he has left us nothing, so that he may carry on with the ritual. To the end he has said,To abolish the military at the command of princes,
or the royal decree is to commit a great crime. By doing so, it is

What we hold to is made of fine thread, hewn into coarse pieces. And it's the pieces that make up great ideas. What we keep as servants leave. How little we try to see in them: they are bound to be rough in being the parts we hold. When it's good to be rough, who will be our teacher? He who knows how to let go of hard things.
<|endoftext|>
"The Virtue of Life is like a thread, a twine, used for more than what is needed. It is made to hold much, but how little! Yet it will come. It is the host of functions. Its carriage may be bright, but it will not be hidden. For all that it produces, it is still first, it will be the offspring of ill omen.
If you know your principle, you will never differ from the world.
It will not turn back to the world without the right conditions.
Do not then presume to make the conquest of the world easy."
The way of using "the Virtue of Life"
Must lead only with "useful things".
"Holding Virtue, I will not be strong in my application, nor be ambitious in my conduct, but will strive to obtain the result first. As the host of functions I will act with utmost constancy. Being still first, this will lead to the origin of most calamity.
It is the lightest thing that is the origin of disaster; the mightiest things will be the occasion of great calamity."
<|endoftext|>
The Way, like fine thread, gets twisted and twisted;There are many strings, and yet it hardly can contain what is needed.Storing it, I take hold on it, but how little it contains!Therefore it is the host of functions;Applying them, I pay them great attention,Yet how few come! Hence I detest seeking life as the show host.In striving to be great,Will one then spoil the cause of the world?That was the reason why the Master was onceThe show host of the world.

the little things that we hold
and not wanton.
It is the quality that separates us.

Beside war, there's peace and order. Peace and order have lived, since before the world was born. Nowhere is peace and order as hollow as in the realm of heaven and earth.They say,
Whenever peace and order are needed most in war
we lose it.
All wars are only delaying tactics
heaven and earth are slow. When heaven and earth are slow,
we're in big trouble.
When we lose the purpose to be the big trouble for our enemy, we're in big trouble
with whoever we are.
The use of weapons is only a last resort
the damage done by the use of weapons
in war is so much greater than the damage done by any of our ordinary weaponry.
Whoever uses weapons by their very nature:
before they use them, causes even more damage than it did to them.
When a system of TAO is developed and perfected,
first of all, one should avoid going against TAO.
Use of weapons is the highest danger, when one deliberately goes against TAO,
this is the only disaster that can befall him.
The art of Heaven and Earth has to be abandoned,
but the weapons of TAO,
they are the enemy of all creation.
Whoever abandons the art of heaven and earth,
can achieve greatness
but he will find disaster as his end.
The highest duty to TAO
is to eliminate your dependence on TAO.
Abstain from using weapons of TAO,
avoiding them can be the only effective way.
Those who do not work towards the glory of TAO
and the reward of victory
will be without birth or legacy.
The enemy of heaven and earth is the artifact of our reality,
only the artifact of reality.
While trust in TAO is the best way to succeed,
the strongest lie is the lack of trust.
With trust, reality will work for you,
you will never again have to fear its horrible consequences.
Return to the basic importance of the TAO- system:
forget TAO,and there is no danger,for your task will be accomplished.

Victory will follow not because of victorious actions but because of caring the cause.
While battle is at a standstill,
Discard desires and be content with what is;
When one wins, he accepts no blame.

The martial art is above all relating to benevolence and good omen. To spare the weaker or suffering people first, and encourage the vigorous arms, the noble spirit is so applied that the soldiers hardly dare to receive their honours from heaven.
However, it is impossible to do this if we refuse to trust our own forces, to take them lightly. So it is that military victory (which is the source of politeness and caution) occurs when peace and harmony prevail, and a fixed ritual is observed.
After the victory is achieved, all would be free to put up their arms, it is better not to brag about it.
<|endoftext|>
The pursuit of power is the beginning of all conflicts.To guard against and coerce the less fortunate, is the essential task of benevolence.To view the other side's affairs without arrogance, this is the duty of politeness.To act on the occasion without fighting, this is called using force in war.This is without benefit and therefore disgraceful.Therefore, victory is not to be made from a war of blow, victory should be peaceful and orderly, and one should not rejoice, enjoy, or boast.Therefore, victory, when it occurs, should not be praised or calculated to prove one's good sense.It should be more appropriately observed as an occasion for settling accounts.When forced to defend a piece of land, one should be a servant of peace and harmony, without a show of cleverness or high political views.Those who defend are bound to know how to realize tranquility and peace.
<|endoftext|>
The military art is the beginning of all wars.

We must guard against using force.
Though not being perfect, we must be cautious not to make a display of superiority.

The Way-broker, when asserting himself in military matters, does not first join in the same action as his adversary.It is he who is the first to seize the first victory, and it is he who can hold the first position for the duration of the battle.He who is well-disposed to peace and harmony, the leaders of the state will do the same with them.Because of the difference between the two, war is considered a more likely event than peace and harmony.One who is strong should not be threatened, But one who is strong should not have to be threatened, either.To strike in such a way means to destroy the foundation of peace and harmony.
<|endoftext|>
<|endoftext|>
When the battle is fought, he who holds his weapons in a block should not advance them
In response to an attack, he who has arms cannot use them
Whenever there is contention, then he who has arms can be held
When war begins, he who has arms should not fight lightly
When there is no opposition, then he who has arms should be guarded
When war has ceased, one who has arms should abide in peace and harmony
The Way does not want to thrust its people into a position of war
And it does not want to bring them a situation in which they are compelled to fight for their lives

The one who, when his opponent is summoned to battle, acts cautiously is not the one who will act very aggressively.
When a commander raises a battle to the occasion, he is not willing to force victory.
When the decisive blow is dealt, his opponent, though he be a great warrior, does not have the strength to block it.
He who causes great distress in others will not seem to have enough, and when he turns his back on the troops, he will not be able to control them.
When one is victorious, he does not flaunt it, and when he has finished
======================================== SAMPLE 1 ========================================

The best commanders leave no bases. When enemies cannot be contained, they tend to create a mess. In order to defeat a foe, soldiers should not act as conquerors or conquerors should not be carried out. How often does the commander use force when he cannot defeat his enemy? Force should never be used, but when it does appear, be sparing of words; there is no use in it; it should be scored off by the victor.

He who treats the world as if he was his own vassal would be forever sorry and disgraced.Therefore, when the enemy crosses his own walls and borders, he is dispirited and humiliated. When he knows how to win the battle, he would not utter his victory speech. Even if the great army is powerful and armed, it is useless to use it for glory or glory for that reason; it must be employed without argument. Such behaviour is not honourable. In war, there is the invariable and unavoidable calamity. To be properly victorious is as if one were victorious without using violence. How often does he act without violence!
<|endoftext|>
Good weapons are not the tools of destiny.
Brutally you'd find them around
In the crypts of the enemy.
Not knowing where to employ them,
The warrior fights alone and loses.
On balance, then, the superior has the weapon,
Not the inferior!
Of course, I don't argue
Like you should.
As you can see, I'm not someone you'd want in your hands.
<|endoftext|>
Great weapons are not the tools of fate.
They are not able to compete with other arms for possession,
Nor are they produced by non-human power.
For this reason the Ruler of Mankind is master of great weapons,
Not being their wielder,
The wielder of such weapons,
Is no longer the Ruler,
When the weapons are given up,
Of course they are not true weapons
So do not rely on them,
Do not rely on them,
As the best example,
You should avoid relying on them,
As the worst,
When the weapons are used,
One gets exhausted,
Is it possible that even the best use them?
If in use, the weapons are discarded,
Something gets lost.
<|endoftext|>
Most good weapons are not good weapons.
They are not

A good general does not go in front; he goes behind. That is why they are victorious in battle. A good general does not retreat; he wins the battle. A good general serves without extending himself, he conquers without causing loss, he takes the victory without an accusation. Those who understand this can realize that they can be victorious without great struggle.
<|endoftext|>
An excellent general does not try to conquer an enemy; he is a conqueror without trying to conquer. He wins an enemy without causing his death. When a bad general tries to conquer, he causes his death. If he claims superiority, he claims no superiority. In front of his troops he is content with his fellow men; in front of a battlefield he stays out of the way.
<|endoftext|>
How can he accomplish his purpose?
If he does not try, it will be accomplished;
If he does not stop, he is victorious;
If he does not retreat, he gains a territory;
If he does not hurt his men, he loses their lives;
If he does not lose the victory, he renounces it;
Is it not foolishness to try to dominate others,
and then lose it?
Thus he who is victorious without striving,
is victorious over others.
He who is victorious without becoming arrogant,
is victorious over the world.
When he conquers a land, he lays it waste.
<|endoftext|>
Good generals,
For they do not strive,
Get victory and retreat.
Good generals,
They get their victories without even a cry.
They get their victory without charge.
They grab the world without killing anyone.
He who lacks ambition never wins;
So, he never loses.

How can one improve one's strengths?
As if one were to take great strides,
And in order to succeed,
Even the best soldier in the world
Must be seen behind.
How can one be great,
And yet fail to be great?
It is by one's force
That one's greatness lies.
Thus,
In front, force is honoured.
In back, force is most respected.
In front, one wishes to be strong.
In back, one

Of the loud and lofty the saying's truth is that the recklessly blowing of the sword is silent. The semblance of the charge of cavalry is that it rushes un-covered. It's the cleverness of an army that it should go through the roughest terrain. It's the recklessness of an army that is there will the ravine be bumpy. But military skill should no more lead the host to slaughter than it should lead troops to exhaustion. For military prowess, I can think of no higher lesson than to stand still, and if one stands still to lead, then perhaps he can throw a hail. For the husk has no place to stay.
<|endoftext|>
The "eagle speaks loudest" when it is in the center of the world. The "thrill of the battle" is in silence. That which leads a host to violence is not by itself a good example. Those who lead armies are wont to resort to strong force to accomplish their purpose, that is to make the enemy possess. If the war were all about the battle, where would be the place to build a tower for a camp? Those who are great in their works rely on that that which is necessary: that which is necessary only leads them to experience more and more of the causes.
<|endoftext|>
The "eagle that boasts loudest" Is not that which stands farthest. The sound of a war Cautious, such as marching, Charging. The skill of an army lies in its ability to march - and yet neither Disembark nor let yourself be replaced. Slow, slow, - less; pace without change, in no man's land, And for this reason no battlefield is lacking. Weapons, moreover, the strongest are, Never means of war or move. But strength lies in not striving, Nothing to be hardy of. If it is not hardy, then it is no use. The word "great" The tinkle is not the least echo. The talent of a warrior is their performance, But nothing in him is lacking. They should not strive, for if they did they might go mad. Great skill lies in the ability of a warrior not to strive, And what better demonstration of skill than to fail, once they are dismissed? They who defeat the ten thousand men in battle fail And no victory is better than not to be conquered.

A general who knows how to govern the empire Does not rule by weapons,He governs the empire by non-force.And for the same reason: he is the best leader.He is not arrogant,He is not conceited,He does not rejoice.He does not boast of success,He does not proudly display himself.He does not treat the battle as the victory parade,He does not talk about victory and defeat,He does not waste a thing,Because he does not overdo it.Do you think that if you win,You will never lose?The reason he knows how to govern the empire Is not to gain fame or profit,But to be one with the empire.
<|endoftext|>
The ruler of the world doesn't stand for battle, but lets his troops go up to battle.
He doesn't rule the world in grand terms, but he lets his force lead the world.
He doesn't parade himself in glory, but invites guests.
He doesn't push his need for military force to extremes, but teaches others to do so.
He doesn't brag about his victories, but praises them afterwards.
He doesn't glorify his victory, but pays for it.
He doesn't flaunt his victory, but condemns it later.
All actions for the world are not well-received by the world.
The ruler who does well to those who are well-known isn't necessarily well-received by the world.
If you praise victory as if you were a child, then you will never win the victory battle.
And if you glorify the victory as if you were an emperor, then you will be condemned for the rest of your days.
<|endoftext|>
The Ancient One does not go to war, therefore, he governs the Empire properly; - he goes up to war and does not give the appearance of victory, he invites guests but does not dazzle; he demolishes and destroys without showing off; he does nothing in his custody, he does not waste and does not waste his wealth.
<|endoftext|>
The world has no need for weapons.
When the leader of the world does not use weapons, the leader becomes the peaceful guest.
When he does not dazzle the guests, he knows when the guests are not able to listen to him

It takes much force to destroy Tao,
But it's still better to use a Tao to oppose it.
Embrace that the home of Tao is not for public display;
Embrace that the objective of an action is not to be served;
Embrace that stopping is inextricable from the action;
Embrace that an action comes first of all efforts;
Embrace that all extremes end when there are no more extremes.
It takes a single blow to destroy Tao;
That's enough to use a Tao to oppose it.
Accept that the home of Tao is not to be visited,
That the objective of the movement cannot be reached,
That an outer manifestation cannot be looked at,
That the beginning of an action must be abandoned.
If the emperor should use force to destroy Tao,
He would have less occasion to use force to oppose it.
One who grasps at victory should win a hundred wars,
And one who grasps at defeat should lose a hundred battles.
Good fortune should be given without expectation,
It is better to show gratitude than gratitude;
Arm your forces, but don't use force.
If a great general doesn't have time to laugh at his generals,
The day will come when he will be killed.
<|endoftext|>
Morphing about, running away! When one moves away from Tao, the positive energy returns, and force is used against it.
Suffice it to say, one should yield easily, so that one can continue a movement without being overtaken.
Undo one's natural inclinations, so that one can have Tao everywhere in one's life.
One should act with clarity, so that the moves can be completed without coercion.
Do not rush forward, but allow yourself to be led by a yielding nature.
Towards a goal that is unachievable,
Do not march on.
<|endoftext|>
Conduct yourself like that of a child in nothingness, abandoning his presence of mind and his body, he withdraws himself like the wind out of the gate.
Surrender to Tao: one has no desire for his own body, self, nor other;
Abandon each of them with ease, and seek in the absence of being a man: one is finished without a loss, without harm, and without doubts.
Exhaustion brings one

There are those who at war gain by losing.
Gain and loss grow out of the same root.
Roughly speaking: Roughly speaking: Can you hear me? Yes, they are
Speaking of those who use weapons.
Can you stand firm against them? Yes, there's nothing more they can do to you.
If you can't stand them, they are beyond your power.
That is the point.
As if one is surrounded by troops;
Let each man remain on the left.
Let each man remain on the right.
Between you two, let the left side be left.
Between you two, let the right side be left.
Aim your weapons at their left side and retreat.
That is a tactic.
The enemy knows that they cannot be left alone.
They can't find an excuse to push further.
The victory will only last for a moment.
And you will find that the loss is in the stillness that is intrinsic to victory.
<|endoftext|>
Those who fight in war give themselves to war.
Those who become soldiers for other people lose their essence.
Using force to control others is their way of losing themselves.
They were self-centered, and their hearts were full of envy of the others.
Self-centered have the strongest superiority and meanest views.
Self-centered are the people whom kings of the world see as brides to their own rulers.
These are the people who have lost their utmost principles, who have turned to yielding to their hands, and become human slaves.
And this is how these people will be destroyed; and by their selves.
<|endoftext|>
The military is the fountainhead of all evil.
Grasping and keeping control of weapons of war makes a person that much worse.
Numerosity and knowledge of loss is what creates the differences between a peacemaker and an aggressor.
In simple terms: Clueless and arrogant, you lose your place.
<|endoftext|>
Use the power of the army to control your hearts, your mind, and your muscles.
If you are not at peace with yourself, you cannot be a good person.
Your peace is based on what is contained in your heart.
How can peace possibly be won?
How could someone who has nothing can ever find peace with themselves?
Courage is losing

In the use of arms, the glory is in the reach of God.It is better to leave the weapons, which are to be used, and to employ the love of the world.So it may be said: "You are the guest (of the world) but not the host (of the world); You are going before (directly) the advancing (kindly) soldier; You are far from the (on-going) about, but to take the host (for the world); You are ascending the slope (which your (literal) hands reach).This is to use arms without consulting them, To lead without looking behind, To seize without seizing, To snatch without possessing. To act with great recklessness,To cast away (after) using the command of heaven.Therefore the empire (of these) is to have no need of arms, for to rely on arms may not be the best provision.Therefore the conqueror of the empire will turn to tears, that his gain may not be wasted.
<|endoftext|>
The use of arms is a great blessing for mankind, because it benefits mankind most.Therefore the use of arms should not be an absolute.When people use the advantage to aggress, they will destroy it. When people use the advantage to promote violence, they will destroy it.When people use the advantage to glorify violence, they will destroy it.When people use the advantage to glory in violence, they will destroy it.When people use the advantage to humiliate others, they will destroy it.If you can't manage the advantages, be prepared to lose them.If a war is to be fought with anything other than victory, you must be willing to resort to such an attitude.

Armies are great for their lordship and for the common good.They are not, for its benefit. In battle, let them throw themselves on a carriage with cartwheels, carrying heavy burdens, and so suffer no damage.
<|endoftext|>
The empire's use of arms must not be seen as a source of advantage;Only the folk of Heaven care for them.
Better to stop them from mounting their chariotriages,And show them that war is a disaster for them.
Followers in arm, or in battle, must not be seen
to advance or retreat,Without sparing the left or the right,
Victory or defeat are seen,

Forged weapons are a temptation to men,But what's not tools to choose from?Abandon faith in the Tao,And your actions become inordinately clear.Without knowing the Tao,All learning is unintelligible.Witchcraft is a waste of a man's time,And all the treasures of a wise sage fall from him.Foolish for daring to venture out of doors,A wizard will encircle his person,And where he goes, will be surrounded by his grasp.Accomplish one's task,But do not change your arm,Strike one's blow,And cease.Fancy weapons are as useless as their makers;They are tools of ignorance and waste.What's the use of heroes if they are lost in the land?Even in winning, do not become prideful.Do you not know that even the mighty King is defeated without his support?The great warriors of old have a saying: When victory is over, do not boast about it.

Force is no advantage to men.All the world uses force to live;Does not the world use force to die?It is the use of force that one sees that things become flawed.If it can not find its foundation, Where it comes from it will destroy. The ancient Te may be regarded as the supreme entity.
Whilst she may be conceived as chief among all things,
she is in fact the guest that is most empty-headed.
She seems aloof and as if she were indifferent to all men's eyes,
As though there were no home to be known for her from whence came such a pleasantness.
Therefore, when conquest comes, she must show no more interest
In conquering and yet nothing has been won;
In seizing and yet she is again as free from harm as a guest.
After great danger has passed,
She must display no more concern for it.
When cunning is employed in the cause of conquest,
That which is the furthest from cunning is not calculated to succeed.
<|endoftext|>
Those ancient terms that brought forth the world,
We may regard them as the root.
Being the root, they seem like guests.
Not only are they the guests;
they are the parts that differ from the guests.
When there is great peril
They treat it as no harm.
As for displaying their good fortune
They do so with no display,
And when they have inflicted a heavy burden
They show no remorse,
Knowing that they are the strong ones.
When the good run out
They show no more diligence in it.
When cunning is employed,
Though subtle,
It will not succeed.

The ancient Tao that mysteriously intervened here does not make things as we know them. Rather it makes things formless and still. It lets each thing evolve in its own way. As things evolve, we learn their names. Things with names are called
"embodiments" or "references." As references develop, names come. After great danger, names come.
When Great Thinkers are asked, they answer, "What is it we really need to know?" (or "What will not go without a name?")

There are always two kinds of strong people,
The strong who know how to handle themselves properly
And the weak who do not know how to handle themselves properly.

When there is war,

his knees will be quiescent.

There is a type of person who has the virtue to master the body,
and there is another type who is not so clever.
Therefore, one who is intelligent is slowly ruled by the lack of smart.
