A perfect ruler in its simplicity refuses the lowly as objects of desire. A fruitless description describes their existence.
One who knows what they have lost can contend with them.
Knowing what they have to give he can promote them. Having and leaving them he cannot lose them. He has no desire for them, having no desire for anything.
Thus his character is in harmony with nature.
<|endoftext|>
The noble one does not serve the people as appearances of wealth or fame. The fruitless, the lowly can hold his heart with the passion of love. Therefore, he has but little affection for them. And, when he loses them, he finds himself, so to speak, where he is content with not possessing things.
What he acquires must necessarily be taken with great sorrow. And what he leaves behind he is not able to take away. If he knows what he has to do he will not presume to take credit for it; if he chooses to act it, he will not presume to presume. For he will act according to his own nature, but will not defy the Laws of Nature.
<|endoftext|>
One who rules by his words does not claim a place in the world
How little he benefits a group or a people with what he expresses,
How little he chooses,
How little he is able to get,
What his heart cannot keep and desire of,
To him it is simply not worth trying to possess.
It is because he knows this not to set out to hurt
It is because he knows not to make himself impossible
He chooses to act out of his own accord, not compelled,
Knowing it he takes it,
As a mind, not a body, he nourishes and nourishes
Riders upon the rivers of love,
Dyeing the face of the precious in the face of the common,
Being present for peace and wealth,
Love and to what is done to others,
Exhibit the ways of the highest purity,
Nurturing the mind of the Sage,
This is how he acquires all power and experience.
<|endoftext|>
Do not put the humble among the noble in your calculations.
How much lesser must a man of honour value his person and wealth!
How much less is his body worth!
So he must marry them:
With what he has and without what he wants.

Withdraw the gloss, for it is the root of form. Renounce desire, and the ten thousand things will become simple. When the words are gone, there are things to cherish and others to destroy. When confidence and power are won, and when glory and wealth are acquired, there is need for judgment. When the things are held back, and when honor and repute are won, there is need for contrivance. The wise man has rest and security, and what he desires is found. He may safely stay and press on, but his passions do not tire him.
<|endoftext|>
When one makes an effort to be very fine, there is a deep root [te] which will generate, or in other words, take hold and achieve, that which [overlording] that which is made a flower by one who has his desires: When one acts arbitrarily, the things [in the world] will continue to decay, or if he depends on the people's [good name] of good looks and good looks of wealth, or if he keeps on acting by force. There is need [of] righteousness and so things will have to die and should have not exist.
<|endoftext|>
Wise men use the commonWELLNESS to make things.Their will to have it is to [slain] all.Whatthey desire, they are wont to receive; What they gain, they are wont to take away. All the things depend on the One and he cannot endure; Therefore he must [be] righteous and ablest; Therefore he must be sure to have [enough] things; And in this way he shall need no place for he will live by living.

Let us start out with a rough (poof) corner.
If we desire to follow it, let us withdraw our wills.
If we wish to possess it, let us not possess.
All things depend upon it for its nourishment.
That is why it has been called the Mother of the ten-thousand things.
It has been called the Prize of the good looks and the good looks of wealth.
It has been called the Obscure object of knowing the thing of benefit and the thing of shame.
Therefore, the truly righteous are one with goodness.

People are like gold and lead: they attract as much as the One. So it is better not to desist, like gold and lead. The following comes to mind: "It is better to bring to myself than to depend on it; it is better to live by myself than to depend on the world. This I have witnessed in the early days. If you choose life of life's natural harmony, you do not meet disaster, if you live according to the Way, you do not meet calamity. When you know how to make the difference between difference and equal, you do not make errors.

The brightest people are gold-hunters,
Those who are honored are gold-hunters.
It seems as though the heavy leader is even more prized.
Going to extremes to obtain,
Things, that lead to a great loss.
By realizing one's true essence,
Staying virtuous, you avoid [natural] calamities.
By knowing that one is equal to others,
You avoid their natural calamities.
By knowing when you are to fulfill your needs,
You avoid the misery of receiving what others want.
<|endoftext|>
When a man finds fame by desiring it, that is vanity and not genuine fame.
When a man finds fame by losing it, that is also true fame.
When the heavy leader takes the place of the light leader, that is also true greatness.
When he recognizes the importance of this one-time stand he can distinguish this as vanity.
While he grasps what it is worth, this is inadmissible.
So he does not try to obtain fame by desiring it.
But when he claims fame he obtains it.
So he learns humility before honour.
Act with propriety in actions.
Not to wish ill-will is called recognizing the non-existence of personal blame.
And never to incur extreme penalties, is a mark of the correct conduct.

When the people of the world, illustrious by their confidence in your deeds, are deceived by your ability, They all flock to you as it were gold, be for yourselves like it.

When you succeed, it is time to stop.
When you fail, you must be delighted.

Things which are good at grabbing people are good at taking advantage of people.
Everyone, of course, knows how much a bad thing comes when they do something wrong.
Things which are good at taking advantage of people, know how to take advantage of people.

The Tao, the Way, is called 'all-pervasive,' yet there are no opposites.
The Tao is described as 'Great,' yet it is by itself!
Though 'Great' it cannot be unified
Thereby it shines in all directions.
Where there is nothing, There is Light.
Where there is nothing, There is Essence.
When there is Essence, He that can know It is True.
When there is no Knowledge, He who can be named.
When there is no Being, There is the All, The Absolute.
Therefore the Wise Person:
Hold fast to a Self;
Hold fast to the Self - It's true Self.
Hold to the Self - it's true essence.
Hold to the Self - It's true name.
Hold to the Self - It's true location.
Hold to the Self, Not to lose Self, Not to lose All.

The Tao is an inexhaustible life-force, in the sense of being limitless in its functions.
It pervades all things and utters the vastest universality.
Because of its transcendence, it can never be defined.
Therefore the essential quality is:
It manifests non-action,
and is also the source of action.
Inasmuch as this aspect manifests non-action,
it is able to originate the action of all things.
Therefore, one whose action is non-action
can call himself Tao.
A non-action man is able to call himself Tao.
A man who is in accordance with Tao
can call himself he.
If Tao is not thus called,
It is a natural birth.
Such being can be perceived as limitless.
Thus, the sage holds to his Tao-like life,
Heaven-and Earth and all being -
Yet he appears to be nothing.
Yet he shows no sign of being.
This is because he has retained the Way.
It is from him that the Way can be learned.
It is from him that
the Way becomes manifest.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is the Infinite
It is eternally all-pervading
When non-being appears, it

Respectful people are clever and knowledgeable,
But never receive a reward for their knowledge.
As intelligent people, they do not see great significance in fame or honours,
Instead they see merit in being competent, with a low opinion of fame.
However, the foolish one sets high expectations,
And fears that he will lose his respect;
In order to ensure that he does not lose it, he loves life but does not boast.
When he has lost respect, he is sure to lose hope.
Since he is not certain of his honour, he is sure to act with honesty.
When he has honoured himself, he acts with power.
When he has power, he does not expect praise,
And when he has no praise, he does not trust in anyone.
If his hearts are not in harmony, he cannot trust people.
Therefore, the wise man reflects on others
Not as his own self,
But as the above-named ones.
When he is detached from the people,
He returns to the essence of his own person,
And as the old-fashioned one returns to the original.

Attractive, intelligent people get their act together, but don't get a big reward.
Attractive people receive glory and praise, but don't give much of a damn.
Attractive people are forlorn of life, but praise and glory endure.
Attractive people know they're very clever, but don't want to be known as that.
Attractive people have plenty of reasons to be clever, but they don't want to get too clever.
The smart ones are natural-seeming.
The ordinary wise person, on the other hand, is always finding ways to keep his mind out of the ordinary.
The natural-seeming one is always coming up with reasons to justify everything.
The intelligent one tries to make sense of it all, all the time, but then he simply gets lost in it.
The person who is lost in the Matrix is not likely to become happy, fulfilled, and rich.
Therefore, the intelligent person has some simple rules that will help him remain at one with the world.
Those rules are the true law of life, and cannot be broken.

If you do not know the benefit you can receive, why insult people? I'm not like this! I still have the benefit, so there is no way I can insult others. I'm not arrogant like that. When everyone has a thing, do you complain about it? When you get something, you can't have it. When you have, get a lot of it. If you think you can always get it, you can't. If you think you can always lose it, you can't. Everything needs failure, so it doesn't matter whether you get it or lose it.
<|endoftext|>
Though you may have wealth and praise yet not know that you have it, You have still the benefit you want. I'm not arrogant like this. With all I have, I can only spare little. With what I have I can't but lose much. To keep such a practice is the lord's duty to the people. He makes a man who is true to himself. He shows one another his own honesty, And another man returns him his honesty. He helps other men find their own happiness, And he receives his own happiness. What he expects is always good for him, But what he receives always becomes worse for him.
<|endoftext|>
The multitude may rejoice in his benefiting them, yet he does not know the benefit. I must be arrogant; I know I have, yet when I have enough it remains free. With what I have, I can lose little; with what I have lost, I can lose little, and with what I have lost little I can gain. Thus it is that it is better for him to lose than to have a boastful mind. And he who is a man of truth, who is a follower of righteousness, and who has fulfilled his work, receive his reward. The burdens of lust which are inflicted upon men by this work, can never be reformed. When you have acted justly, you have received your reward. When you acted unjustly, you have lost your reward. There is no other way.

Of All Things The chariot is most honorable. The great man is the possessor of life. And the fruit of his life is life. And the fruit is not his, as if it were something precious, and this it is not. How do I know this? Because if I alone had something, which was not my life, it would not be easy to understand this. The great man, because of the character he bears on earth, may be compared with the male child. He who finds his spirit in the past, finds in himself his character, and finds the motherland of his country. He who loves the world, finds his soul in the world. He who loves the glorious reputation of the world, finds in his own country his treasures. He who loves the eternal grace of the world, finds in the world his benefactor. If you love the beauty of the world, you love the motherland. If you love the glorious renown of the world, you love the country. It is no marvel that in one who loves the mother, he finds in his bosom the tenderest love.

The great vessels are all glorious. The virtuous are born of virtue. They are not born of virtue. It cannot be known how they came to be virtuous. When Heaven and Earth were matter, then Virtue sprang forth, the source of Virtue. How then can I know the nature of Virtue? By seeing in it. That which is seen, is reality; that which is not seen, is imagination. How else could I know the nature of Virtue? By revering it. That which renounces it, has lost.

Name identifies people; The honor that is given a person identifies the empire. In that way the empire comes to be. The lifetime is the true measure. Retaining honor and dwelling in peace as a guest, the prince is worth one's attention. Settling people according to their number, he is worthy of recognition. Distinguishing the good from the bad, he is distinguished. And following this, one needs valuing profit. Exercising virtue, he keeps faith in this (the measure), is truly endowed with reliability, and endures.

For Heaven and Earth to be acknowledged, the people must value honor. Honor's object is a place of honour, and the use of it rests upon what is beyond whether it be a family or a place of honor. So do not hold dear what you have, nor commit to the thing that you have. Honor, to honor, make yourself dear. How can you be intimate with things? It is the nature of everything to be intimate with things.

You ought to be aware of the nobility which a person has in a nation. And how they are distinguished from the few that others possess. The nobles' fame is that they are illustrious in their own way, and if it were not for their fame, no one could call them eminent. Who of his own accord can call himself honored? He who honours him honours him, and he who honours himself honors himself. He who honors the common good does honor to himself, and he who honours the sacred goodness does honor to his nature. How can you have these two? It is by virtue of the practice of what you are. You know that something good can be of service to you. A good thing can be of benefit to you. But I would advise you not to take this as a sign that you are glad, nor are you glad to take any good from the trust that you have in the people. Give the trust to the people and there will be no place for distress. However much you esteem your good fortune, you will have no more than you value your own good fortune. By this practice, you will become very strong in the faith that your faith is the sincere faith of your people.

To the left is joy and to the right sorrow.
When we hold onto a fleeting memory of hope or fear,

When we show our great compassion
our compassion can then reach for the poorest of men.
We grasp at possessions and cherish possessions.

How much trouble are you causing to others? Do not think that you have the right to possess people and hold them as you wish, nor be partial with them. Do not consider yourself a 'mysterious being' -
do not hold yourself in awe of others, nor discriminate by differences. For these are the private desires of your heart. If you acquire many things, how will you be able to maintain them all? How will you be able to embrace all things? What is more dear to the beloved than these things? It is better that you should become satisfied with the longings of the universe.

Don't own the mind or the body. Don't be devoted to possessions and do not cherish people. Don't possess people and be selfish. Do not use words or talk to others: tell it as it comes. Do not cling to anything. Who is this that will do what it likes? Keep quiet and it is done.

How much trouble are you causing to others? How much trouble are you going to cause to others? This is not your business. If you do not talk and think, and just stay indifferent and lose nothing of your natural energy, you will be a fountain of life. By being lost, you lose your need for work. No gain should be taken from the group.
Rivalries and quarrels leave people bitterly lost.
Gallant princes become greedy and bellicose.
Therefore people get their needs fulfilled and reject gain.

One who knows how to speak, knowing just how to end a sentence, can generate a vast mass of speech. If you don't know how to stop a sentence, what are you doing? Therefore, in words men as they did the works of God spoke of the gifts they obtained in heaven. Men in the world spoke of the good gifts they obtained in the world. If men were to speak as I do, they would be a heavy burden to their lairs. They would fail in the kingdom, and not be found. I must therefore separate words from

the world, and return to Heaven. If Heaven were not thus separated from me,
there would be no distinction in the world. The world is that which separates from Heaven. The word is that which separates from Heaven, and the word is the good which separates from Heaven. For the separation of these is the difficulty. The difference between Heaven and the world is great, it is known to be its end. The good end of Heaven is the saving of people.

It is the natural process of the Tao to separate from the desire for selfish satisfaction.Yet how selfish indeed that is! Selfish is the source of desire. If the desire is lost the intention remains for itself.

The highest virtue is universal goodness; And it is this goodness that fills men with fear. Hence one who loves without self loses faith in one; And one who loves without self endures.
<|endoftext|>
The highest Virtue is universal goodness. That is to say, the goodness is found in the heart and not in external things. Therefore, one who loves without self has no faith in the love of the world. One who loves the world has faith in the love of the heart. This faith will yield, and result in failure. Therefore, one who loves enough and becomes rich yet finds one's wealth gone will have an ulterior motive. This is why one who knows the limits of self-interest (or lack thereof) and takes action will not be derailed by such flaws.
<|endoftext|>
The highest degree of goodness is goodness for its own sake.
The meanest goodness is good only as a means for personal satisfaction.
One who is content with self knows the limits of that contentment;
And so for a man who has little self-contentment, he sees clearly the self-subsisting limitations.
One who has a great capacity for self-contentment has the self-contained limits and is thus free from the futility of what is self-constructed.
As these two are the same, they yield equally to the use of the righteous and the unrighteous.
<|endoftext|>
Highest virtue is goodness of its own accord;
The meanest virtue is goodness of its own accord;
The kind of goodness (good of its own accord) is good only as a means for self-justification
One who is good of self lacks faith in the goodness of the world.
One who is good of self has faith in the goodness of the world.
This faith will be hard to sustain, and leads to failure.
One who is very content and self-centered has faith in the goodness of the world.
That faith will be insufficient, and leads to self-righteousness.
And, finally, both of these are exhausted through their own enjoyment.
Thus one who knows that his self (itself) has limits and that of his self his limits will have limits,
And he can appropriate what his self desires in righteousness

In the nature of things, the ideal happens to be something you can achieve with your mind alone. In the universe, there is something to which you feel close, though not as closely as the Cosmic Being. In wealth, you are strongly attached to intrinsic values, while sentimental selfishness and self-centeredness lead you to disaster. In creation, you can value a thing, but only the originate things merit your concern. In change, you cannot be surprised by natural law. Thus, acceptance of all things is desirable, while averting evil is recommended. It is in these three that all those who know life can identify with: They are: love and morality, the material and the genuine.
<|endoftext|>
To love is to be open to all.
To value is to treasure all.
To experience what happens is to experience reality.
To endure is to die.
All in life know the following:
Love leads to itself.
Value leads to itself.
Reality leads to itself.
Irresponsibility leads to itself.
Boredom leads to itself.
Mental recklessness leads to the circle.
This is because all in life know that to be open leads to self-loathing.
So it happens that we also know this:
Love leads to it.
Valuing the value leads to itself.
Receiving self-benefit leads to itself.
Receiving self-benefit leads to self-abasement.
Ignorance leads to self-destruction.
When you have a mind of moderation and consciousness of the natural flow of events,
you are free from danger.
To know how to deal with the unimportant is to be free from harm.
This is called the subtlety of love.
<|endoftext|>
Honoring is like always loving.
Love of wealth and material possessions can be achieved only by experiencing yourself.
Always giving, material goods can be achieved only by perceiving the world.
To sustain your existence and to live in harmony with nature, is the greatest treasure.
To let your desires be the only guide, is to accept the chaos of life and to perpetuate the misery of others.
Honor is simply acting from selflessness, humility, and humility.
There is no other way, and therefore there is nothing that cannot be achieved by oneself.

Recognize the good (the teaching) which belongs to you;and be sure to hold on to the bad (the application). On one hand you may keep your identity with the name of God,and on the other hand you may keep your identity with the world of things. The one with God always remains always genuine; And the other always does not. Thus even though one might be in possession of different characteristics,I do not lose sight of one another,For the very quality of difference doesn't disappear,And we might say that to be different is to be open to life. Therefore the wise man always recognizes his own identity and rejoices in the subtlety,And the man of simple virtue never ceases to act.It should be observed that without valuing wealth or learning, one should not regard this as business for oneself; but it is perfectly right to cherish life, for with it you may not fail to perceive the presence of the Self.

He who considers what is best within himself will lose sight of his own interests; He who regards only what is in accord with nature will lose sight of his natural value. In the former case he will be led to its existence; In the latter he will be led to its disappearance. When life consists in this duality, one has lost the constant; To develop life in this manner may lead to the destruction of life,Because one loves to be different and to be original. This is to regard life as fruitless. One who is in possession of his own nature recognizes that there is no occasion for change; If he himself is not changing, there will be no occasion for change. He who is not in the body, but who takes cognisance of things,Observates that the change that takes place in the bodies occurs not as change,But as the natural movement of things. Thus those who are in possession of the body do not destroy life, And those who are in the body are not destroyed by the body. When one benefits by thinking of the benefit, it may be contrary to Nature. If one is selfless, it may become contrary to duty. The road of desire has no true counterpart. This is the contentment of the Tao,And the boundary of all affairs.

Fame and dishonor are the difference of the few, and fame and disgrace are the difference of the great, And the distinction between them is not easily grasped. How shall one know that distinction? By reference to what it is, that which is great. How may one then be employed in being great? By remaining humble. How should one then be defeated? By never reverting to a great degree.

What good things did you lose? How much harm have you inflicted?
If you want to be great, you have to first be humble. If you want to be wealthy, you have to leave the world behind. If you want to have no desires, you will be without misery. If you want no possessions, you will not be troubled. Therefore, the Sage chooses not to do what others do,And avoids doing what others fear.
<|endoftext|>
What you lose is not your essential unity
All things have potential,
A strong body,
A beautiful complexion

A heart filled with deep desires
The body adapts to the world
The mind,
All of it, is playing by the rules
But the body will never let go
From it comes the aspirations
The world becomes what it is
It needs no desire
Existence, is it not?

What you lose is not what you were.
All living things in nature are generated;
their growth and reproductive processes
are natural.
Humans proceed in a vacuum, and are quick to grow
until they have exhausted all potential.
Self-interest is what leads us here.
But it is not the only motive.
Self-interest is not natural,
and is not the best way.
Human beings are not enough and don't justify themselves.
They cannot be perfect,
and so fail.
Hence, the sage avoids these and finds peace
with the simplicity of non-action.

What you lose is not what you had.
How much must be achieved before you are fulfilled?
All things go on for their growth,
Growing until they reach their prime,
And then let them rest,
or if they do not grow, cease to be.
This is the natural way of human life.
But being enamored with what others have,
Or conceiving of a purpose in the world,
Is one thing not natural.
It is not the way of nature.
Be of the Tao and you will not be disappointed,
And so you will not be disgraced.
See that you aim at contentment with the affairs of the world,
Not that which the world seeks.
If you seek the one and other is sought,
You are deceiving yourself.

Lao Tze says, Whoever is busy with gaining honors or distinguished and distinguished is like a child, which greatly makes one anxious. Whoever is busy with wealth or heavy is as if a stone. Whoever loves evil is as if ice, which greatly hurts him. Whoever loves righteousness is as if bound, which greatly hurts him. Whoever is cheerful and open is as if eternal, which greatly harmonizes with Tao, and thus it is inauspicious to be rich, beautiful, or successful. So many who are self-seeking will not be self-centered. When one succeeds, one should be satisfied, even joyful. One who always keeps a watchful eye on how he acts is always in the right place. The Tao does not like a crowd. The Tao does not like the heavy baggage that can make the mind tense. Therefore the Wise Person takes pride in taking pride in the multitude. He also has an original thought.

One who comes to the accomplishment of greatness wants to be noticed,
As if he were born to succeed.
One who becomes a fool for wealth will be like ice.
One who loves to be made a fool for wealth will be a sinner.
One who loves to be made a fool for wealth will be good.
One who loves to be made a fool for wealth will endure.
One who is in harmony with the Tao will not be disturbed.
Therefore a man of the Tao takes no pride,
He acts with no will and does not strive.
He returns no where.

He who takes no pride

Is like a multitude who never cease

He who in this way retires is like

Being one with One - No self-consciousness, mind free of wisdom, conscious of Infinity - Lifting the Self - Tao. Know Joy and Health, neither suffering nor gain. To this do we owe fame and wealth. To embrace these is to escape the fate of Life. If that being aware, it was unaware, [of Tao, how could it speak to it?]; - The blind join each other, the righteous join the taoless, all drawing on Love and Direction. Therefore through Non-doing, we are safely at rest; through doing, we are free; through not doing, we are never deserted. Being able, we attain (our full) nature; having reached (our full) nature, we attain the full nature; gaining and losing, we are content with what we have. This is called Illumination. Therefore the Sage is understood and his wisdom retained; he is one with the very Way.

Does not this point be better to favour the lesser than a king? Will not a man love the most beautiful and praise the people whom he rules best? He who acts without the light of personal merit will not feel honoured by the people.

The first principle of all Tao is Love and in this, the world is founded. Love serves to establish trust and to insure preservation of our properties.
Love makes one submissive to the next highest thing.
Love makes a person receptive to all things, because it knows itself to be one with nothingness.

In ancient times, all people knew
The secret of love: it
sows trust and lets others follow
The secret of morality:
it keeps the cause of goodness
These principles are the root of wisdom,

where all is centered
To separate ourselves from
this root
by contiguity we lose much
To separate ourselves from

by keeping possessions

Lao Tze says,All things depend on the body for survival, and this is why they come to exist. The body is a source for life and a place for dwelling. This is why men believe in loving one another. The relationship of brother and sister is also a way of making their bodies. Yet the body depends on the body, and so the relationship may go both ways. Regarding small things, we do not separate them from the purpose of the great, for this will ruin our property. Regarding abundance, we should not take our time to separate them from the purpose of the great. In short, when trust is cut and the principle is destroyed, all things will be utterly destroyed. The great man who knows to do things with simple will, and to act with what the spirit of natural desire drives him toward, will be a great holdover for his own vital nature. In the long run, this longevity in saving the body is better than the existence of many people. In other words, the man of great virtue is always able to meet with the wants of the other; he is always able to realize his desires; and he is always able to love for himself what is naturally his nature.<|endoftext|>

Pleasure and health make up the whole universe. So how could I leave them up to chance? I dedicate them to the Tao. All beings are made up of their parts. Each thing is created by its parts. Therefore, when I make my commitments I do not take pride in them, because I know that they are true promises. They are the most genuine commitments in the universe.

Gain and lose are relative
If you dwell on your wishes and on desires

I wish there were more things for people to love and for things to lose
Knowing that gain is the heart of desire
But knowing that to give of yourself to others is the way of true compassion
Having a mind free of attachment, you will return to the source
Knowing this you will renew your center
Hence:
Understanding will come in the one who does not dwell on things that are natural
But therefore finds beauty in the wholeness of what happens

It is foolish to follow the man in his namelessness.

Listening intently, one will learn its essence. Using it, one will obtain its fullest use. Seeing its uncarved wood, one will see the world.
Being arrogant and conceited is why the world is cursed. Being a treasure seeking person is a secret of misfortune. Therefore, the wise avoids honor and pride, and takes pride lightly.
By being knowledgeable, one is knowledgeable all around.
The sage gives, yet does not possess, of itself.

Those who are wise in the cosmic Way look only at the tangible world as it is. This is a small world indeed, and so intimate and so small. How frail and so shallow! How many things there are! The myriad kinds of plants and creatures abound, varying in number and in excellence from one to another. But the man who values this abundance of things and does not try to keep them in control will find himself able to receive them. That is the way to see the greatness of the eternal Way.Those who are not wise in this Way lack wisdom. People with virtuosity become worthy. People with wisdom are good at being fair. The only difference between a good and a bad is how much knowledge they possess. They become depressed when their goal is not reached. Therefore they try to use what they have, and not what they should have. The Tao offers a way, and then it abandons itself. The TA calls upon the Tao, and then the Tao calls upon the TA. To know Tao means to be free of error. To know the TA is to be free of fear. To have enough is to be free of difficulties. This is the Way.

The King, though exalted, is not the King. For how do I know the value of the people, the rulers, the beautiful things? By the people. For how do I know the lasting usefulness of the good things? Because of the people. Thus the value of the people depends on the saving the people, and the usefulness of the good depends on the bringing people to the self-interest of everyone. This is the meaning of 'safe keeping', the 'all-encompassing doing', the 'creating the whole', the 'enlightening the people'. The wisdom of the people cannot be recognized by others. If it could be, the people would cease to be.

The highest ruler is one with no part to follow, yet as he follows, so he will not presume to rule himself. It is because he does not know himself that his knowledge is of value; indeed, the more he knows himself, the more he has to know the world; the more he is illuminated by the world, the more he is made aware of his own limitations. Thus, as he is unaware of his self, he is not ignorant of his world. The supreme ruler does not let a thing lose his utility, because he never loses that useful thing. It is only when he loses it that he loses his usefulness.

In order to return home, seek the essence of the universe.
The essence of the universe contains All-pervasive motherliness.
The motherliness of All-pervasive motherliness cannot be divided from the Way.
The way, being transcendent, cannot be measured.
Through the Way, one may categorize the things within the Way.
By categorizing the things within the Way, one may describe the ways which encompass All-pervasive motherliness.
Describing the ways which encompass All-pervasive motherliness, one may characterize the superior type.
Describing the superior type, one may classify the Way.
Describing the way, one may define order.
Descending to define order, one may categorize results.
Continuing to define results, one may delineate patterns.
Continuing to define patterns, one may classify subjects.
Continuing to categorize subjects, one may describe events.
Describing events, one can describe the cosmos.

One who desires to go to the land of the spirit can keep the spirit in the body: the body which is the spirit is the body of the spirit. The spirit is far beyond categorization. The name of this spirit can hardly be defined; it may be said to be the mother of all. The soul which is this spirit possesses the natures of all. The natures which can be said of this soul are the four (human) kinds. The four (human) kinds of the soul are the way, the voice, the shape, and the forms. These four (human) kinds can be named by any human being. In describing the ways of this soul, he can only take the way; and in describing the voices of this soul, he can only take what is said of him. In describing the shapes of this soul, he can only take what is said of him. In describing the forms of this soul, he can only take what is said of him. When the Tao is abandoned, there is still some way; when the way is abandoned, there is still some voice; when the voice is abandoned, there is still some shape; and when there is still some shape, there is still some body.

When a thing is seen,
It is not understood.
When a thing is named,
It is not known.
When a thing is thought,
It is not true.
When a thing is desired,
It is not preferred.
When there is a desire,
There is none less than a desire.
A desire-less man has all he need and needs not to spend.
A man who wishes too much is ready to exhaust himself.
Therefore, men of insight come to know what is hidden and clear,
They get rid of superficial forms,
They are able to trust without knowing it.
Therefore, they are given everything they need and not weary to crave.
They know when to stop and so do not incur the pain of failure.
This is wisdom which enables them to endure.

The tendency of an observer is to see what is hidden. The tendency of an observer is to see what is hidden.

The tendency of an observer is to see what is not known. The tendency of an observer is to see what is known.
The tendency of an observer is to live on. The tendency of an observer is to give things away. The tendency of an observer is to be distracted.
This is what we mean when we say that we see things as they are. We don't see what is hidden.
We see only what is obvious.
This is why we have the word 'inclination'.
We see patterns. We can't see the rhythm of events.
We can see only what is clear.
This is why people of insight look within themselves and see all they need to see, knowing that this is only what they need.
They don't let themselves become wowed, so they see all that is essential and beyond much.

For this reason, those who know full-well the good, and have the love of the family, have the family as their constant treasure.
And to delight themselves in wealth and wealth-getting, is to afflict the family for life.
Therefore, at the same time, he who has, to the satisfaction of the love of the family, true contentment will fail no man, nor its affliction burden the family for life. To be big is to be strong: In this, just look at the knot. To be great is to be small: In this, just look at the whole. The 'to be' that appears so is the substance, The 'to be' that appears so small is the dimension, And the 'to be' that appears so great is the valley. So one who looks at substance is substance, And one who looks at dimension is dimension, And one who looks at valley is valley. One who looks at substance is substance, And one who looks at dimension is dimension, And one who looks at valley is valley. One who looks at substance is substance, And one who looks at dimension is dimension. Those who are great, may be covetous: Those who are great are who are small, And those who are small are who are great. Therefore the Tao goes on down and up, Through space and time and space and time.

If you want to gain height, you must begin by taking big steps. If you want to become great, you must begin by losing small steps. If you want to become a valley, you must begin by shrinking your hands. If you want to be great, you must begin by losing your greatest desire. If you want to be great, you must begin by having your smallest desires. If you want to be great,You must begin by having a lesser desire. Therefore, with all this,The great must also contend with the small,And for this reason, the Great has then no disgrace. In this way, The great lasts for long.
<|endoftext|>
If you want to be much, you must first have to be small. If you want to be much, you must first have to be small. If you want to be great, you must first have to be little. If you want to be great, you must first have to have much.If you want to be rich, you must first have to have to have a lot.If you want to be rich, you must first have to have to be small. If you want to be poor, you must first have to have to have a lot.If you wish to be rich, you must first have to have to be small. The rich, the great, the great desire always remains the same. Therefore, the great lasts long.

Calm is never the substance of happiness
It could be the fruit that is not ruthe'd; or the root that is not ploughed over.
Witchcraft is always a yearning to reroot the family tree
That just can't happen.
A reward is the reward: that's what matters.
But gain is the root that brings to ruin.
And to lose is the root that brings to gain.
Then what's the danger?
When desire is great one is likely to be vainglorious;
When one is content is likely to be dissipated.
In this way you can last long
By knowing inner peace.
<|endoftext|>
When mind-body harmony is preserved, there are no extremes of suffering.
When mind-body harmony is lost, there are no extremes of suffering.

To forget the value of self is to maintain joy and love.To lose self-worth is to lose love.
To fear loss of self is to experience loss of life.
To act without desires is to be free of danger.

When the beloved is without knowledge of her own worth, In awe of and most shunned the love with which she welcomes her beloved.
When self-love is no longer nourished and cultivated, Yet without unspeakable pain,
And when grief-stricken joy is suppressed and conceit removed,
From all the world and the inner world by those that know her Self - Still there arise and hearken all that is ari and dim beyond all bounds.

Cultivating enthusiasm causes one's heart to calm down.
Emptying one's mind, clearing one's own thoughts, may bring happiness.
"But gain and loss are neither more nor less than the same, and we must recognize them as far as the nature of the source's reference is concerned."

When his beloved is not able to rest in peace and harmony, The sovereign feels empty.
When her beloved is lacking in self-control and direction, He feels remorse.
He who loves can only be grand and extravagant, While to seek comfort and peace He must strive, anxiously, for the inner essences of his beloved.

Hence, he who has wealth puts himself under control, and keeps his wealth beyond apprehension.
To him who has fame his treasure, none can compete with;
To him who has his self under control, nothing can reproach him with it.
To him who is content, no disgrace will befall him.
Therefore, because of contentment, no one seeks disgrace,
To him who is wise he will be humble, and yet be neither disgraced, nor disgraced by himself.
Therefore the wise man, being content, is glorious to all men;
Being glorious, he has no need of merit or disgrace,
Being lowly, he is without disgrace.
Therefore, therefore he endures disgrace,
He endures no disgrace.
This is why he is esteemed to the wise man,
And is esteemed also to the plebeian,
Thus is he glorified.

To know absolute power by losing it, is to be compliant. To know perfect perfection by losing it, is to be restrained. To know self-control by losing it, is to be self-controlled. To know contentment by losing it, is to be in a position of perfect selfishness. To know that one has nothing to lose, is to be able to turn back. Therefore, the wise man, who knows his power, is powerful; those who know their contentment, are content; those who are self-controlled, are self-controlled. Those who know only self-control, are self-controlled without forgetting, and therefore are renowned; those who know only self-control, are self-controlled without forgetting, and therefore are despised. Because they know self-control, they cannot lose themselves. This is why they are considered wise. Because they are self-controlled, they cannot lose themselves. This is why they are esteemed to the wise, and are esteemed also to the plebeian; therefore, they are reverently honoured. This is how the wise are esteemed. Because they revere themselves, they no longer lose themselves.

I have to keep from producing, 'Even if I had a hundredth.'I must certainly be 'virtuous' and content.
Let happiness and sorrow accompany us, In the hearts and the actions of men.
But humility alone nourishes us. How the [original] virtues

I protect our life, and prevent [our] demise.

Be still, for to make fame and wealth is to harm one's health.
To be undistinguished and to be rejected is to bring on him misfortune.
To admire, and to be satisfied, is to bring on one's own sorrows.
Therefore the wise man, who has no love, finds in his relation to other men benefit; he may thus never give away his person.
But I would advise a man who is interested in his own possession to be contented with what he has.

Not to have fame and wealth is to hurt people;
To be self-sufficient in life is to be self-righteous.
To show one's heart and to admire his surroundings is to be self-righteous;
To have a view of a thing, and to have a mind of it is to be self-righteous;
To love one's neighbour as oneself, is to be self-righteous;
To have faith in oneself, is to be self-righteous;
He who governs is to be self-righteous;
And whoever governs, finds his own self-righteousness.
Therefore the Sage

Tao speaks and you do not understand. Merit speaks and you do not know how. Worth speaks and you do not know what value it contains. Possess and loss speak and you do not know how to appropriate them. This is how Tao benefits all beings; to know and to know well. And to know and to know, well, for others to learn and to learn, to gain and to lose for others to act. The different parts all depend on each other. Understanding lets you understand. Knowing lets you see. Knowing is not enough. Actions are required. Giving up is essential. Tao is all at once. Only by knowing, can you be nourished. Only by knowing, will you know when to stop.

Having the largest belly but not possessing wealth, This is the fruit of the great belly.
To have but a little, this is the fruit of the little belly.
To have and not get this is the fruit of the great belly.
Therefore the wise who attain to greatness say: "How small my belly is, yet my wealth not too small! How little my resources are, yet I have plenty!"
This is the fruit of the Great Bony Banners.
The hundred persons all gathered on one hill cannot hold a conversation with me; it is as though there are no noble bodies here.
Always surrounded by wealth and glory, never wanting to be exalted, I am unpretentious; always surrounded by desires, never wanting to be depleted; always surrounded by desires, always lacking; always losing, then I am without blame. Because I am always content, I never feel forced to act. It is only because I know contentment, that I am always free from blame. This is the fruit of the Mystic Mystery.

The people's belly is full, but its wealth is insufficient.
The people's bellies are strong, but its wealth is inadequate.
Therefore, the wise avoid the excess.
For they live the principle that their tumbrle or wealth is inadequate.
They live the principle that their bellies are weak.
They live the principle that their bellies are rich.
Therefore the wise avoid excess.
Because they live the principle that their bellies or tumbrle, they are not taken by fools.
Therefore, by not feeling that their bellies are inadequate,

When their bellies are rich, their hearts are not corrupted;
They avoid feeling anxious or confused.
They live according to this:
'Inhale deeply, then be relaxed.'
'Assign blame sparingly, to neither great dew nor much).

Hold up your heavy glass:
That the heavy glass can bear
Will give it a rise
How do I know this is true?
As the light doesn't dim
So it's natural to say that:
In beauty is the valley of gold,
The valley of beauty is the valley
Gold is the valley that swallows
The valley of happiness.
Thus when we desire,
We must not fear
But embrace the great [hidden] point.

That is why I use the term:
The valley of gold
The valley of gold is the valley

Accepted fame is like water.

When a good character stands alone, its praise will reach the world.
When a bad character stands alone, its praise will reach the world.
If a good character is in a fit, his praise will stay with him.
If a bad character is in a fit, his praise will be enough.
If a good person keeps to his word and does nothing, he will be respected by all.
If a bad person keeps to his word and acts, he will be cast down by all.
This is like a merit-for-merit comparison.
Whoever does not know when to stop when a cause is approaching will long last,
And whoever knows when to stop when a cause is approaching will be in no danger.
When good people are in charge and there is order, there will be no chaos.
When bad people are in charge and there is disorder, there will be chaos.
If there is no order, chaos will arise.
The road to security is not through conflict.

The best person stands alone, its merit is known. The second best person stands alone, its merit is unseen. The third best person stands alone, its merit has no merit. The fourth best person stands alone, its merit is only seen. Therefore the noble stands alone and not honoured, and the vicious stands alone and treated as a villain. These are the ways that bring lack of merit: they meet with disaster. Therefore the sage manages his affairs, and nothing goes wrong. He accepts without expecting, as if he were the servant, as if he were not worthy of his dignity. He does not become arrogant, as if he were not one of the sage. The sage who regards himself as little worthy, becomes truly great.

And the commoners seem to live a life better than their common ones. When it comes to bandits and robbers it happens that the less and less people in the world and the less and less robbers go.If robbers and bandits can't get even once their gang can do their business and defend itself, the commoners can do their business and defend themselves, and that's how it's done. What's most special is the location that's extra special.

The way of life is the beginning of the Tao. It is the pattern for all men.The path to the true Tao, is not found in the mind of men; indeed, in it, we can see the beginning of all confusion.
This is the way of life. That is the origin of the heavens and the earth. The beginning of Tao is not the mind of man, nor the dwelling of man. Tao, the Tao, exists without a mind, nor does it dwell in the minds of men. The empty term of appearance, the lack of substance, the apparent value, the useless object, the absence of an origin, is always present. This is Tao's origin, and does not belong to any person. Therefore Tao is always present. Thus, we can see what is taking place, but cannot see the end. The end is present, we can see what is happening, but cannot see its beginning. What is important is not the mind of man, what is not important is outside the realm of what is called what we call "matter."Therefore, the "matter" which can be examined by means of the mind, is non-essential.
The DAO is the way and the way is the thing. Things are made of DAO, and the DAO is the manifesting source of things.
Therefore the meaning of "The Tao" is meaningless
for the manifestation of everything.
The DAO is the way and the way is the constant source of everything.
Things are made of the DAO, and the DAO is the visible root of everything.
Therefore, the DE and the 'how' of things are the same.
For simplicity sake we would say the DAO is the apparent,
The 'how' of things is the actual.
Therefore, The Tao is the nameless source of all things,
And the DAO is the nameless manifestation of all things.
Therefore,
The Eternal Tao is neither the mind's nor the body's
And yet its essence is identical to both.
The true essence is ever-present and manifests itself through the human mind.
The illusionary essence has no self-understanding, therefore we can observe it.
The Eternal Tao is self-understanding and self-mystery
And it transcends all mind-concerns.
Understanding it opens the gates of the Tao.
Knowing the gate of the Tao will never weary you.
Concern will fade and this is the secret

True people never accept greatness, therefore, all greatness is rejected by true people.
I have seen both of them:
The humble man has no humility.
The high man has no high.
He who employs them as possessions and holds them for himself endangers himself.
The man of means therefore makes no show of himself, and therefore no other is his rival.
The person of no mean means knows that it is to gain, and that it is to lose, that he is inferior;
The man of great means regards it as a misfortune to fail, and therefore seeks it only a gain.
The high position never fails him, and he does not lose it;
The man of great knowledge regards it as an honour to accept, and that he does not lose it.
Both these things deal with injury to man, and are injurious to him.
Because he knows not the nature of what is:
He may with care endure.

The average man is self-centered, and therefore does not lose his virtue.
The average man sees no loss as a gain, and thus treats it as injury.
The average man uses success as a source of merit.
This is not loyalty to the mean, because loyalty to the mean, is based on personal bias.
This is not loyalty to the great, because loyalty to the great, is based on personal prejudice.
This is not loyalty to knowledge, because loyalty to knowledge, is based on self-interest.

Look and only then will you see (Falleth). Look and only then will you see (Falleth). When you stay in the fruit of One's virtue,You will see the good things (Yung-nam) everywhere. All these exist in the Way of Heaven, but don't know it.Therefore, a man of substantial virtue stays within the fruit of One's virtue, and does not seek to show off the fruits of it.A man of shrewd virtue (muk-ku yen) stays within the fruit of One's virtue and does not demand recognition. As for those without virtue, all are burdens.A man of humility feels satisfied when he has done his share, and returns home filled with content.A man of cunningness feels content when he has accomplished his task and returns home full of pride. Therefore, heaven is full of good (wu-wei) and the people as full of burdens. Therefore, if one is without faith and not knowstle why He who is not faithless is true,One will be able to overcome all danger.

Things depend on each other and grow. Yet they do not live for themselves, for they divide themselves into myriad things.
The world's riches and profit come from an emptiness that lies behind. They treasure their vices and pride themselves in their crimes.
The middle class embraces their riches and delight in self-importance.
The benighted dwell in vices, and are a burden to the society.
Thus do the wise put an end to desire by putting an end to craving.
Because desire and craving separate us, I call them to understand the source of misery. Therefore, I use desire and craving to direct people.
In doing so, I am assured of true enlightenment.
The tao is to be known and not seen.

The return of Tao is what makes everything in the world grow (Good and Evil) and which makes the existence of man and things unique.
Tao's return is what makes everything is grow (loss and gain).
The return of Tao is what makes everything exist (self-interest).
Tao's return is what makes things existing (harnessing desires).
The return of Tao is what causes desires (desires and fear).
The middle class holds on to life, yet its nature is evil (childlike), while those who have powerful lives are tormented (childlike).
The worldly and worldly people (luxurious, profane, unhealthy) become filth of the world.

He does not destroy them.
He does not favor them.

What is yours is not complete.

I have no desire for the existence of the Great Mother.
The existence of the Great Mother is the mother of my desire for all existence.

is by nature himself free from much loss and danger. He who keeps his mind free from worldly
