When Heaven and Earth have become One, they become like a single knot. Earth becomes one with the One, and becomes nourished. The spirit of a woman becomes like a single plank. The ten thousand things, without self, become one. This unity is called the Way. If one grows up without this Way, he will turn in error. At times we cultivate the whole Self, when in truth our individuality is limited. We grow up in greedily desireing all things, and then fall into delusion. To cultivate the whole Self is to rely on the One. To stray from the Self, is to fall into delusion. The exalted seek selfless nourishment, and they are only being held in bondage by the failure of self. The great value gold and beautiful things as if they were precious stones. By disregarding the distinction between these things, we can see that they are inseparable. We naturally seek the highest in simplicity. We look at the Collective Whole, and see that its One is the Highest. This is to lose touch with the Collective Whole.

Nature attained to the One, the Absolute. Heaven attained to the One, and became therefore one. Earth attained to the One, and became thereby one. Spirits attained to the One, and became thereby one. Water attained to the One, and became thereby one. The ten thousand things attained to the One, and became thus virtuous. The King attained to the One, and became thereby the model for all. The Sage attained to the One, and became thereby self-existent. The value of gold and jewels seems little compared to this. Tearing down all these takes up little space. Thus the man of sages prefers the clearest to the least. They look for the highest in simplicity. They look at the Collective Whole, as if they were straw.

When Heaven and Earth became one, they became One. Earth attained One, and became therefore One. Spirit attained One, and became thus One. The ten-thousand things obtained One, and became thus virtuous. The sage attained One, and became thereby Immortal. Therefore, the taoist identifies the ten-thousand things with Being. They are the Essential. Earth is not absolute, therefore one is. Spirit is not absolute, therefore one is. The ten-thousand things are not absolute, therefore one is. The sage is not absolute, therefore one is. Therefore,

The 10000 things are all-gracious, and therefore everything in it can be made. The rulers and kings are all-gracious, and therefore everything in it can be made. All this can happen with natural processes. He who regards Nature as just, doesn't believe everything else. Therefore he has compassion for Nature, but does not regard this as heartfelt. All-graciousness is yet a matter of belief, because that's all there is to believe in Nature. If he makes sure he's not just a witness, then he doesn't believe anything. One who doesn't value anything will not trust everything. That is why the truly wise are constantly on the march. Even if they're in a muddy place, they never lose sight of the roots. As for themselves, They are ever content with what is empty.

By virtue of being, he becomes great. So is humility an argument for praising greatness? No! If you work without approval and merit, you will be in no position to praise yourself. One who works without praise is not right. Should I praise something so highly, and then denounce him? Yes, I do! Should I then sing of him as being just and great? Yes, yes, I do! The first father does not demand that his son perform the work for which he is responsible, Nor does he receive the work of the work, and does not issue judgment upon it.
It is as though in the ground there were no energy and no force; That is why it is alive!
The earth, with its countless vessels, Has responded to the longing of the spirit, And has made itself useful to serve the world.
Thus does the Ruler satisfy this want with what it is able:
He who takes up the earth, but does not give it over, Puts it to use for the purpose of the world;
He who takes up the spirit, but does not give it up, Puts it to use for the purpose of the world.
These, therefore, are the aims of the Ruler: For to give (both) is a means of giving (to the spirit), To give (one) is to receive (another); And for to receive (one) is to be received.
And so it is that this is why the Ruler knows the worth of servility: He does not own (everything) himself, But, by letting others own him, he will have a share in them.
And if the land is then in a state of disorder, And the relation of the people to the ruler Is one of carelessness, I say, But does not blow away, And then let them maintain their independence?

There is something in our nature which shows itself to be "originless." Tao is truly "originless." "To know Tao" is to be in touch with the great mystery. By being in touch with the great mystery, the origin of all things, everything becomes a continuous thing. Being a continuous thing, everything is continuous. Being continuous, there is nothing for nothing. Being nothing for nothing, everything can keep itself. Being nothing for nothing, everything can fulfill its destiny. Being fulfilled, everything can live. Being living, everything can change. Being changing, everything can die. Being dying, everything is eternal. Being eternal, the Tao is the essential principle, and the ruler of the universe is the greatest. Therefore the man of Tao, the simple is the origin of all things. Before the Tao of old
there was a unity that was the basis of all things
and became so clear,
the Earth became so stable
that it may hold together
and return to its original nature
whereupon it was born anew
and became replenished with stillness and peace
and was freed from the danger of instability
and was able to turn back to the primordial reality where all things were born
and thenceforth continue in their inexhaustible cycle
at the center of all creation was a stillness that seemed
natural
and a peace that was calm
and the result of this unity is that nothing can be fathomable
therefore they are called 'beyond belief'
and they are therefore referred to as the lowest form of knowledge
and the source of great hypocrisy
when one pretends to know the mysteries of nature,
it is only by resort to the self-concept, the low-brained essence of the mind
that one really knows nothing
and unknowledge is the root of knowledge
and lack of knowledge makes one an idiot
this is the way that all Tao is real - real as it is at the center of all existence,
because it is
so real and so spontaneous
like water that flows, like a wave, as if none exist,
Like water, it flows everywhere
even in the deepest places,
that is why it is called the 'sweet water'
because of the peace it creates
and the fact that it can be opened in any way to the deepest,
and all the great truths
can be put into its mudbray shape
and so become the foundation of great myths
because they are so real and so spontaneous
and so, within all things, real, they are little more than cracks and shadows
and the raw essence
and that which was born from the mother.

The Tao is that which was and is not: white, unfading, like a mirror, but an image inside a thing which has no face, like a sponge at the center of all that happens. The lasting pattern is the Tao, and all things are created by it. From its beginning all things have existed. When they are past their prime, they are reborn. The universe of today is neither chaotic nor stressed, and is alive with life. The valley of the valleys, in which all the world flows, has no vistas. In its valleys all things exist. Inhabiting all the world, myriad thoughts and vistas exist, whether it is the valley or the peaks, the valley or the river, the valley or the rocks, and the river or the ocean. Yet none of them can be the limit of the universe.The perfect ruler honours the center. The king is not cognose. All things have life-bearing natures, the valleys don't possess them. All life is in the valleys. Hence the kings know the valleys are safe, whilst in the valleys he pays no regard. The valleys are sanctified; the throne is built of water; a leader works for the well-being of his country.The ruler honours the lowest station, while the king honours the highest station. The former makes for different purposes but is honoured by the latter.
<|endoftext|>
There is nothing that has emerged earlier but the form that is timeless. Within these things there has been nothing to disassociate. Unfathomable emptiness surrounds the entire universe and all things have arisen from it. The valley of the valley is void, the valleys of the valleys cannot be seen, and the valleys of the valleys are abundant in seed. The valleys of the valley yield but can never be walked, the valleys of the valleys are hidden but could lead to many [moved]. The valleys of the valley are tall, but they cannot be seen from the ground. The valleys of the valley produce, but are ever unfulfilled. The valleys of the valley are rich in natural supplies, but do not offer them to be taken. The valleys of the valley are wealthy in waters; but through them they are rooted and nourished, and do not deny them their role as rulers. The worthy respects the mediocre, the worthy honours the illustrious. The eminent possess the modest, the illustrious possess the exalted. This is why the truly wise honour the people, as if honouring their ancestors.

Therefore the ancient one had expressed: The heavenly and celestial things were eternal, [a] the earth and the firmament eternal, [an] the valleys and the mountains were eternal, [a] the saints were eternal, [a] the nobles and kings were eternal, [a] the gods were eternal. Without [ending] and [perfecting] they became faint and faint. [The saints] become extinct without end. Without [end] [doing] [or] possessing [having] virtue, [the saints] perish without preservation. Therefore [the highest] man is magnanimous; [the highest] man is kindhearted. [The highest] man is shrewd. [The highest] man is levelheaded. [The highest] man is plain-spoken. [The highest] man is sagacious. [The highest] man is intelligent. [The highest] man is thoughtless. The sum of his parts is but insufficient to sustain the state. This is why the ancient type makes the doctrine clear. The ancient type possesses benevolence; the ancient type possesses righteousness; the ancient type possesses rectitude; the ancient type possesses sagacity; the ancient type possesses insight; the ancient type possesses knowledge; the ancient type possesses endurance; the ancient type possesses endurance, and the ancient type possesses the ability to foresee. The highest wisdom, Eternal Truth, though imperfectly spoken, has an essence of complete truth.
Indeed, the highest reality is not the source of all reality.
There are those, in the extreme, who can speak of the Heaven, though imperfectly drawn, as if they were quite clear;
who can speak of the Earth, though imperfectly drawn, as if they were quite dry;

When nature dies and dies, it returns to the Mother. When the Mother-in-law becomes a Mother-in-law, and becomes a Mother-in-law, in turn, she becomes a Mother-in-law. And the Mother-in-law is a source for the universe. Earth must be a Mother-in-the-earth for the Earth to develop. The Earth must be a Mother-in-the-earth for the Earth to become fertile. The Mother-in-the-earth for the Earth to develop. She must be a Mother-in-the-Earth for the Earth to become more than a source of food. If all things need Earth to nourish them, Earth must be a Mother-in-the-earth for the Earth to become beautiful. The image of the Earth on the mother-Earth must be a Source of beauty. If Heaven and Earth, without the Son or the Virgin, could be One, Their power would not be limited.
<|endoftext|>
Nature is one source of All things.The Mother-Earth was One source for the life of the 10000 things.And the other Earth was produced by the Mother-Earth.The Son is the Mother-Earth and the Virgin is the Mother-Earth.Both must be the same.In the same way all the things of the universe depend upon the Mother-Earth.And if there were no mother-Earth the Mother-Earth would not be able to produce all the things.Therefore, the wise leader should be a very substantial.The Leader of this world is truly an infinitesimal particle.
<|endoftext|>
Nature is of one origin, a womb to all that arises in it.
Earth is the womb to all that cometh into it.
While the Son is the womb to the world.
The Earth is the womb to the world.
Both have one source, The Earth being the mother to all things
and the Son being the mother to the world.
They are one in source, And such as is the Son

The great invariably reverted to the rootless. The bright dwindled to darkness. The fertile to the barren. The Tao to the void. In decline the heavens became so. In vigour the earth became so. In gradually it obtained its strength. In its efficacy it was worthy of patronage. In harmony with Unity, to be open, is to be illumined. In robust, it is to be firm. In penetrating, it is to be penetrating. In virtue, it is to be virtuous. In good manners, it is to be auspicious. It is not to be elegant. So the sublime flourish on the humble. The deep stem on the shallow. The high are founded on the low. Lead in silence as waves. The deep give rise to the shallow. The high are founded on the low. Hence a wise leader is one who finds fullness in deepness, strength in weakness, goodness in righteousness. He is one who is honorable without befitting it, high without being high, like an image without being a figure, so self-effacing and self-contained. That which is of a high character ends in being a lowly one. Thus a superior man regards the common people as inferior. And being obeyed by others in deed he endows them with reputation.

By giving himself to the world
He became more abundant;
And the spirits become more ethereal.
The Heavens became illuminated;
The earth became hard,
And the valleys became fertile.
The spirit came to be alive;
And the things became virtuous.
The time of clarity was shattered;
The heavens became so dark;
The beings came to a pass;
And the valley became a pool.
The Tao became empty;
The Heavens became so dark.
The things came to be.
The Way became empty.
The creatures came to the world
To serve as models.
Leaders need not be great,
Because their subjects can be proud.
So a leader who is humble
Will receive respect from the people.
A leader who is present will be honoured.
A leader who is of great dignity
Will be kept in high esteem.
A leader who is of great humility
Will be regarded as mediocre.

Goodness and ability go back to before the gods and the earth existed. They are not what we think they are. They are just the opposite. They arise from a place of purity.The fountain of virtue flows through wholeness.It is calm and peace that flows out of the Center of the Universe.The DAO produces it. The DAO produces and produces.And because it produces, it will not die.Truly, it is the ebb and flow of DAO!It is the teeming waters of the DAO.To attain the fountain of virtue requires this: to be centered in the Tao.This is how it happens: When the sky is clear, the rivers are clear. When the valleys are full, the waters rise. When virtue is flowing, the rivers become calm. When the valleys are full, virtue finds peace. When the valleys become full of righteousness, the waters become full of righteousness.When righteousness is exhausted, a valley of righteousness is born.When righteousness fails, then the valleys of righteousness become empty.Therefore, those who can put themselves where the whirlpools do not come to make their places clear.Therefore, those who can put themselves where the whirling sound does not go do so anyway.They are mounting vessels with one hand; they are whirling about in the opposite direction of the wind.This is how good men take their place: In the centre, they have the TAO; In the mouth, they have the TAO.It is better to shine like jade than to be fixt like a piece of jade.

Before long after the appearance of Heaven and Earth, there was Substance. This Substance is indeed (a presence) when Heaven and Earth existed. It is called the Empty Space because there is no container which can hold it.It is its Inner Life. Those who reach it are said to be Virtuous. These are (the Primal) Virtuous -- He who stays, being steadfast, he will achieve his aim. He who forsakes, will lose the essence. Those who are Steadfast then get the Profound. Those who are Profound then become Essential. Essential being Profound, it becomes whole. Profound becoming Profound, it becomes whole. Profound becoming Profound, it becomes whole. Those of old times (known as the world) became clear; the sky became clear; the earth became clear; the valleys became clear; the spirits became clear; the things (or humans) became clear; and kings and high leaders became clear; with clarity comes closure. If the clear were not so, the sky and the earth would be tempestuous; if the clear were not so, the valleys would be worn out, and spirits would be exhausted; and with exhaustion comes passing out. If kings and lords did not become so, the valleys would long ago be deserted; if the valleys were not so, the people would fall; if the people were not so, the king and lord would be un-trustworthy; if the leader did not have a certain amount of faith in himself, it would come to the point where he would lose confidence in his people. In those days, that is where trust came to rest; the main thing is that one should strive not to be so highly esteemed.

The best politics was the time of antiquity. A man must not depart from his place of origin to serve as king or (human) magistrate. Such is the lesson of ancient politics: He who takes the time to return to the valley for nourishment of a home, rejoices to bring back to it husks of husks of the fruit of nature. It would be a fool to think that one can return to those who have no human nature and become king. For Kingly virtue in human nature cannot be regained. The best king is that which most perfectly approximates humanity. He has returned to what he has always known.
<|endoftext|>
The best policy is that of antiquity. That is why the wise man is not tempted by killing. For when he gets lost, he will return, till he is right at home.

The best is ancient. Therefore: Never do evil. Like straying, never do wrong. So if an ox cannot die, it should have no left to die. Is it true that an animal cannot die, That it is as hard to die as an ox? Is it not better to die if you can? If not, let it be. So do not become king: Then you will never have authority. The best is to return to the valley. So: the sage feels no pain; He feels satisfied as if he were at home.

The good is ancient. That is why he who is a good person abides in the people. He who is a good person abides in himself. He who is a good person is good at developing himself. Hence, all being by the unity,
Laws of law of eternity are not honored by them.
Since all Being was born from the One,
It can only be thereby made clear.
Since all Being was shaped before the great Creator,
It can be said to be newly born.
Since all Being is liable to come to nothingness,
It is able to be said to be newly produced.
Since all Being can have the secret and efficacious;
All Being can be called the active, the yielding, and the receptive.
Therefore the kings and princes call themselves "Non-Ancients," "The Lonely One," and "The Inadequate One."
Such is the origin of these doctrines.
All beings are without a beginning,
But no beginning is without a contradiction.
This is why the kings and princes call themselves "the New Humanity," "the First in Time," and "The Without Beginning."
Thus does their being express that which is in itself.
Thus, it signifies that which is unique.
That which is large is the foundation for the small;
That which is small is the foundation for the great.
All things are in the unity of the One.
If one existed, nothing could endure.
If one existed, something could cease to be.
If one existed, you can say you are old and unworthy.
If one existed, you can say you are hungry and homeless.
If one exists, it is better to keep to what is small.

If nothing existed, it could be said to be empty.

Therefore people seek oneness, Inner Depth - the superficial - the deep, they seek oneness, they desire oneness, they desire depth. Therefore the master craves oneness, oneness. His desire is to become plain. It is not for humility. For simplicity is his root, And his step is to follow this. The world wants fruit, He does not crave fruitlessness. The master is beyond Self, Within himself he has no need of Self, Within himself he has no need of Self. Within himself he has no need of Self. The master is one with all things, He does not interfere. He does not flaunt himself, Nor flaunt himself without being self-effacing.

The Light is Light; The World is like a hawk as it looks at the white sun.When the white sun is bright, it loses its brightness.When the Tao is low and dark, it becomes still.When Ten Thousand Things come out, they lose their origin.When lords of lords arise and rule, then become glorious and supreme.When ten thousand things arise, then they decline.When Heaven and Earth are bright, they become feeble.When the rain and the wind are blowing, they become stormy.When a nobleman comes forward and serves, then becomes a base of ignominy.When the people come forth and shine, then the system of the nation is destroyed.Therefore, the great ones draw their light from the lowly ones,They draw their light from the people,They draw their light from Heaven and Earth,They draw their light from the Tao.Therefore, when Heaven and Earth are shining, they are low and low.When the rain and the wind are blowing, they are violent.If you wish to remain humble, then you will become glorious like jade.If you wish to remain low like a rock, then you will become late like mud.

As the holy man once said,If you rule over others as if you yourself were one of them,the inner world will calm and then grow.If you rule others as though you themselves were not so,the world will be unsettled and the conflict will continue.Therefore, when things are merged, they are a type of flower blossoming or watercourse in the valley.When the love of the Tao overflows, it flows into the world. When the ego is divided into parts,they become things that are born.When egolessness goes too far, it becomes confused.Therefore, when the exalted become the lowly, the low become the high.So when the great leader and the great conqueror go through, then become the original offspring of the humble.Therefore, in the Sage, the One is called the womb of the people, and the level is the valley of the world.The center of the sage is not sharp like jade or sharp like stone.It is like the Dao.

The virtue of a ruler governs the people as though he were the sovereign.He governs with impartiality and disinterestedness, maintaining calmness and order.He rules harmoniously with all the people without argument, responding when the people stir in their meditation.He rules unconfinedly and with restraint, taking no position.He governs all under heaven as though they were his own children.Hence, if the Dao flourishes, it is the wreath of the people. If the reason is not strong, it seems weak.He governs all under heaven in accord with the natural course of things.He rules without ambition; there is no possessive attitude.He governs all under heaven with ease and purpose.He governs the world with justice.He governs in accord with the Tao.He governs the world with the clarity of divinity.

He who is the best ruler of men, being the ruler of them all;or as though he were the Mother-of-all: thus makes the valley imperceptible by being the mother of all.If he governs all as though he were their Mother;there will be no stir in the World.If he governs them as though they were his own Son,then they will become thus.The wise may consider it an inferior virtue,that with a rounded head and a confident face.His superiors will consider it an inferior virtue, that with an

When the Deities in the Tao recognize each other in awe, the Way appears like a valley; When the Ten Thousand Things associate in concert, the Spirit of Creation seems frail; The valleys and spirits seem as filled as a well; the grass and bushes appear beautiful, ripe, and flourishing as if led by nature; the ten thousand things can act of their own accord and become men and women; The realm seems to be flourishing as if reborn. What is once a valley becomes a valley, and what comes forth from it becomes a new being; And what once became new, must manifest itself again. What is strong and permanent becomes frail and fell. What is firm and durable is quiescent. What is deep and remote becomes present. Things in De are all like stones, Like rivers flowing by; like rivers flowing far.

When the Cosmic Core of Tao makes peace, It seems like a valley, Though all things in it live harmoniously. When the ten-fathom deep makes peace, It seems as if it's like a stagnant pool, Though water flows endlessly.The valleys and spirits are like clear waters, Perfectly clear as glass. Heaven is like clear waters, Perfectly clear as glass. The valley and spirit are like clear waters, Perfectly clear as glass. Heaven and Earth are like clear waters, Perfectly clear as glass. The ten-thousand things are like clear waters, Perfectly clear as glass. If heaven and Earth are like clear waters, And if the Ten Thousand Things are like clear waters,
The Way may change; But the valley stills forever. If Heaven and Earth become confused, The people will perish. If the earth become chaotic, the nation will soon fall. Only the humble is strong, And the lowly is rooted, And the great is upheld. The Valley is the gem of the kingdom, And the kings and lords are the roots of the country. Humility is rooted in honor, And honor is rooted in humility.

When your most subtle energy was yet too simple,
then was that simplicity soon revealed to you.
That is why we say:
"When clarity and stillness arise,
the fruit is followed by darkness."
When the spirit and mind are at their peak,
the whole world is produced.
Yet so
they grow,
and one after another
others
appear.
So each one gathers up its bits and becomes the new person.
These bits, though new and different
are all in a relationship with the old person,
and they all become new,
old persons.
No one is defeated,
only self-renewed.
Thus each person comes to life and dies.
How this applies to the Tao is plain:
The world becomes one to take it in,
and then becomes separate and opposites.
The earth, wood and myriad creatures are employed
as instruments for one purpose,
and then they all fail.
Their existence is not their own doing,
nor are they objects to be possessed.
It is by benefiting the self that one learns to hold on to one's self.
How self-renewal is needed for the Tao is obvious.
Where there is no personal fulfillment,
this is no place for disorder.
Where there is chaos,
this is no place to rest.
Thus the Tao is a profound truth that goes beyond your own knowledge.
<|endoftext|>
The first clarified clarity of the mind
is the love of the way.
The first attained peace of mind
is the love of the universe.
The Way is born from the universe and dies without birth.
Therefore it nourishes and brings forth and does not give away.
And its loss produces again.
One who loves the Way will suffer no harm.
One who loves the universe will suffer no harm.
One who loves the Way will suffer no harm.
One who loves the Way will never lose.
One who loves the Way will endure.
Those who suffer no harm endure by mutual benefit.
For it is from mutual benefit that harm will no longer befall them.
Therefore the Way is worthy of being recited in devotion.

The perfect idea, of which earth and sky are the parts, As of a child, the ten thousand things have become part of it. Beings of the ten thousand things grow by the power of it. All living things and all that breathe it all have their nature from it. The body that carries the ten thousand things is formless. It is solid, still and dark, Still solid, and dark. It is empty and yet full, Still empty, and yet full. Because all parts grow from it, I will call it simple. (Which the ancient one called quiescent.) That simplicity will perish if not checked by heaven. That darkness which stillness brings forth will perish if not kept up by earth. If the king and the nobles, In their task of being bestowed, Do not call themselves "orphaned," "worthless," Or "a failure," "wicked," "hurt people's pride," Or "dejected," They surely will be hurt people's pride or disgraced, In their humble ways, they may be disgraced, So surely, too, are the nobles and the kings The one generation before them the one generation after them. Valuing earth is like valuing an empty vessel; Valuing heaven is like valuing an empty vessel, Valuing the male and the female is like valuing an empty vessel, Valuing creatures is like valuing an empty vessel. Valuing heaven, earth, and male and female, are like valuing an empty vessel. And in so doing, they insult and hurt all who possess them, Is their method, too, ignoble. When the tao is as clear as crystal,

How insignificant a person the action!
How clear and placid is heaven!
How gentle is the earth!
How active the spirit!
How many things are born;
How ten thousand things are destroyed.
The people of the nation go through what they have done,
The sage leader acts from the follower's place.
How do you like to be modest?
How do you like to be rough?
Do you like to be active?
Therefore the people of the nation do not depend on people of other clans,
They are not dependent on nobles and vassals,
They are not dependent on the noble and the lowly,
They are not dependent on the ten thousand things.
Why are they without faith?
Because they are free from doubt.
They do not rely on the jade, the jade of the spring, the jade of the valley, the jade of the rock.

When Tao becomes impenetrable, it may not be the cause of perplexity.
When the Tao is not impenetrable, it may not be the cause of perplexity.
Virtuousness is the hundred things' mother; Their loss leads to new birth; Therefore, the Sage dwells in the host of ten thousand things; His office is to act as the host of ten thousand things; His task is to act as the guest of the host of ten thousand things; His task is to act as the host of one's own kind; Therefore, he acts without cloying the inner vessel of the people.

What is in tune with the eternal Way, remains forever Quiet. What is without (which may be called Dark or Calm, then) Calm, Remains ever sure. All things, though they move, Move but never depart from the Tao.
The Supreme Being, on arriving at the Tao, Exhalts in profound and profoundeness. Yet, Though he exalts himself to the point of exhaustion, Yet, While he elevates himself to the fore of the universe, Moves at a constant pace.
He is always at rest, always present. He acts without thought and as though he were simply doing something. He takes nothing for his own, yet he gives everything to everyone. He is free of desire for personal gain, yet he is not attached to personal gain. He forgets who he is. Because he is void of desires, there is nothing he is not willing to give up. In knowing how to be void of desires, There is nothing he is not willing to give up. Then the Sage claims to be ignorant, to have lost his reason. Is this not knowing the Tao as if you are seeing a stone, like the eternal radiance of the Way?

To know one's self is not a way to know another.One who knows one's self is in accord with the Tao.Earth becomes perfect by virtue of one, Heaven becomes holy by virtue of one, The spirits become exalted by virtue of one, The ten thousand things come forth by virtue of one.If one is in accord with the Tao, one will not be destroyed. If Heaven becomes pure, it might dissolve. If earth becomes holy, it might erupt. If the spirits become exalted, they might depart. If the ten thousand things come forth, they might perish. Thus, kings and lords, being leaders of the ten thousand things, Are said to be "orphaned." Do they not mean "orphaned" by virtue of the Tao? Is it not so? So, too, if one is in harmony with the Tao, One can not be destroyed. If one is in harmony with the Earth, One can not be destroyed. If one is in harmony with Heaven, One can not be destroyed. If one is in harmony with the spirits, One can not be destroyed. If one is in harmony with the ten thousand things, One can not be destroyed. If the leaders in the empire Are not sufficient, Are not sufficient, then they perish. If the kings and rulers Are not sufficient, Are not sufficient, Then they destroy themselves.Therefore, the sage has no special place to dwell,
Therefore, he honours his whole being
And becomes the center of the body.

The Way is nothingness, and by nothingness, can become an object of emulation.Earth becomes in harmony with the Way, which is the relationship of being, through which the Tao becomes the one.The spirit becomes one with the Way, which is the relationship of seeing.The spirit and the world become one in the relationship of their being.Manifests will arise from the Relationship of Being, and so the TAO will not die;And the ways of earth will not be shattered.The ritual of the spirit is unity, and the ritual of the world is union.Thus the ruler achieves the Unity of Being, as Tao does; and creates the relations of being of spirit and the world of spirit and the world of the ritual, of ritual, of ritual.The ritual is unity, as the ritual of the ritual and the ritual of ritual are unity, and so the TAO becomes the Tao.

Heaven and earth last and they never fall. Heaven is veiled through one and it is clear, Earth is solid through one and it is dim. And everything is born from something. The Valley is full of water and air and other things and yet it is unseen by all. It is because it exists that there are things and then it is empty. Since the sage values the sage person, he values having things and not being seen. Being without things, he is left empty. Being with things, he is right to have things. If you want to be powerful, be like a king or lord. If you want to rule the empire, you must cherish how your subjects are treated. If you prize things, people won't see what's precious. When you hold on to what you have, you will be strong. When you don't care for what you have, you will be strong. A lot of having is not enough. Just because you have, you are worthy. When the space is large, it makes a room. If you have a lot of things, you have to feed the living. A lot of things have value, but you do not rely on them. If you want to become wise, you need to trust yourself. If you want to be strong, you have to trust yourself. So, if you know what is natural, and value nature, the Master gives to you what you need. If you love nature, trust in the next world and the nature itself, you do not depend on anything. If you know the Tao, then your heart is the whole world, and the universe, and the One.

Those without a master are not slaves. Those who have masters are less likely to take them. Man-made things are abstract and changeable. All that we know is shaped by what is. That's why the greatest men in the world have two names, In the lower right and in the upper right. There's no need to know more about them. If the name the first one is a set of words for the other, it's because you have to follow it. Still, something that has shape, like ice, cannot be taken. If you've done as much as you can in them, you'll not hurt it. You can do something to it, just let it go, and it will return.

It is more hard to meet with success if you have no one to contend with. Nature abhors competition, and it will defy every effort to detain it. And so it has kept all beings and creatures under its ban. All things endure and return; and everything that exists, without fail, lasts and returns. If you try to change things you will change them, and that is what separates good from evil.The good one is, the bad one is. Heaven and Earth oppose action, action opposing heaven and earth. The princes and kings oppose virtue, virtue opposing the princes and kings. Who could submit to an honorific to be understood, a prince or king, as a simple block of wood? If you can do it, be done with it; if you can't be done with it, you can move on to another matter.

To be rare is to be a field of fruitless competition.
To be far removed from Nature is to be a barrier to its motion.
Therefore, the Ten Masters are said to be "Hundred Alone" and "Maiden alone"; but all people come to understand them by the title "Hundred alone". If they can not fit in with the fruitless competition,
they will cast off that boundary.
The ten masters have four names:
"The Female is Far Away, the Great Vessel, the Great Extent."
The Great Vessel is the "Old Female";
The "Great Extent" is the "Everlasting Woman."
"The Everlasting Woman is the Principle of Conduct."
Therefore, the Principle of Conduct is a barrier to the action of the Great Female.

There is something you must do for the Tao.
You must understand the Way.
The Way is so solid and immutable, so real that it seems like it cannot be tested or changed.

It flows and stretches and bends and shifts forever and forever.
The very idea of the Way is an insanity.
The Way is infinite.

The origin of Heaven and Earth. The son of the sky and the earth. The unformed whose sky and the earth (or souls) encompass. Hollow, unfathomable, all-pervading.
The Father is known as sky-and-earth, the Son is known as the Unformed. The Unformed all contains something and expands outward.
These ideas can be understood as "having a mother, the earth, the sky," however they seem unbearably rigid, ever-firm, and blunt, at the same time a kind of shell, like a sponge, is flexible, at the same time soft and supple.
The sky is the ground. The earth is the mother.
These ideas, together, form a vast storehouse of ways. This vast storehouse of ways. Desiring everything to be as it is, every being is as it were ordered.
It would seem most unfathomable to the wise, however.
The Unfolding of the Infinite mother. The Unfathomable abyss.

The oldest mysteries are as old as all past things.Because of the vast expansion of the Principle of Infinite Life,They have not changed.This principle of Infinite Life enables the individual to remain whole and free.Because of the great achievement of Infinity,It is hard for it to assert itself by itself.For if Infinity could not assert itself,This would lose the entire significance of Infinity.By the simple truism: "the fullest joy is to have no ambitions,"Heaven and Earth, the sky and the sea, and the 10000 things depend on the many for their life.They have to make use of all beings.It is in the Great Presence of the One that their existence can be measured.It is in the Great Presence of the One that they can be shaped.It is in the Great Presence of the One that they can receive provision.It is in the Great Presence of the One that they can direct everything.For this reason the sage regards the kingdom as the spiritual manifestation of the Principle.Therefore the Sage considers himself a solitary and lowly creature.He regards his earthly existence as the spiritual essence of his transcendental existence.He regards the kingdom as his transcendental essence.He regards the kingdom as his transcendental essence.He regards the kingdom as the spiritual essence of his transcendental essence.He regards his transcendental essence as the spiritual essence of his transcendental essence.He regards the realm as the transcendental essence of the Principle.Thus the wiseman regards himself as insignificant,And elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.Because his transcendental essence is so small,He considers himself insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.Because his transcendental essence is so small,He regards himself insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.Because his transcendental essence is so small,He regards himself insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.Because his transcendental essence is so small,He regards himself insignificant and elevates his transcendental essence.He regards himself as insignificant and elevates

Heaven is perfected and is resplendent;Heaven is stable and imperceptible;Heaven's light has an acute brightness,Through the vacancy within it!All creatures are alive! Without existenceThere is not death.Therefore, we call these things Life,The cosmic unity is great,The ten thousand things are instruments of the universe,The spaciousness of the valleys,The strength of all things, all divine grace,Abiding in the goodness of the ten thousand things,Heaven himself shines in the light of Life,Heaven's brightness and simplicity,And thus also is the humanity of the thousands of things.All things are born from life,And therefore heaven is ever illumined;Heaven's light is a serene reflection,Everything is made out of life,And consequently the universe is eternally replenished.But the life is not derived from the luminosity,And hence not the life. It is only because of it that heaven can be called serene.And the life is only because of it that the myriad creatures can be called instruments of the universe,Inasmuch as they are all instruments of life.Therefore they are called "The instruments of life" - And because they are instruments of life, They are said to beThe vessels of the universe. The thousands of creatures live in perfect harmonyAnd are therefore truly the instruments of the universe.Everything that comes into being is born of Life - yet it is not Life,It is only the Life - this Life, which is real,It seems therefore sufficient to make all other things make use of it.How is it, then, that Heaven is always manifest and lasting?Because the Unity is eternal!To see it through its Luminous essence it is as though one were seeing through the mirror.It is simply because the Universality shines on everything that it is the basis of its non-differentiation and the norm for existence.

Infinite Nameless seems to be and seems to be without change.
And yet the Infinite embraces and embraces and embraces it not.
Truly, the empty shell is all there is.

The clarity of an unchanging dao gradually melts away -
The blockhead of Tao dies away -
The high winds and downy rain falling from heaven -
Are all blunts. Thin as tinder, like a hole.
The emptiness of heaven's emptiness (of its simplicity)
Dies away. Heaven's emptiness (of its clarity)
Creates life. Realized unity appears emptiness.
Living without such appearance is inexpressible.
Yet those who are in that state
Eliminate the self. That is the base of the sacred character.
Than to know one's self means
Remaining anonymous.
And to love oneself is to be one with Tao.
To be aware of unity
Is to be truly one.
And being aware of division
Is to be one with Tao.
There's no way to be enough of both
There's no such thing as not enough.
It's just that one can have
One who has much, but not enough.

And if not examined, they blow.

It is because the whole universe has been able to continue after the beginning that some things might even survive. This is because the existence of the universe is so long that we can be sure of its longevity.It is because some things have survived, it is therefore possible that others might have also survived.This is why the common things survived; and because some things survived, there might have been others who survived too.This is why some things survived; and because some things survived, there might have been others who survived too.When the common things survived, some other things survived as well.

It is inasmuch as the Creator lives, that those who act on his behalf gain longevity.It is inasmuch as these souls are long-lived, that the Reason-Kings and great Princes can be recognized as gods.The existence of the Universe is a long-lasting activity, so long-lived that it can even be known to exist.All the things that can be perceived, can be long-lived.Those that can be named, can also be long-lived.If things have survived long, others, like themselves, may have survived long.Thus, the existence of the Universe is a virtue; it has longevity. The existence of the reason-Kings and the great Princes is a virtue; they can be known to exist.If things have survived long, other things, like themselves, may have survived long.This is the nature of Virtue.Hence the existence of the Principle is a virtue.The existence of the Principle is a virtue; the existence of the principle is a virtue; the existence of the principle is a virtue; the existence of the principle is a virtue; the existence of the Principle is a virtue; the existence of the Principle is a matter of difficulty.

In order that the universe and the world can be whole again after their cycles, all beings should live long.These may live long, for all beings live long, and so must all other things have lived long.What is longer is a point of departure.And what is further will decay, and become again whole.One of two lines of life can be preserved.One may live, and so another may live.These two are life and death, or life and recurrence, or some other source of life.One who lives again has, too, other lives, which, though long-lived

At the beginning of the world, Heaven and Earth were light and were eternal. However, they soon became dim and dim. So, they became static and merged into one. This unity was clear and constant. Heaven and Earth had a purpose and purpose could be neither false nor different. They were like the sky and earth. When Heaven and Earth's unity was not in disorder, then it would not be unstable. When Heaven and Earth's purpose was not in disorder, then it would be just as real and sincere. When you cannot achieve your purpose then who can? The simplest of your goals are things. Things become your focus. When your true nature is not manifested in things, then life is lost. If you do not deal with your life like an object or exist within what is like a physical container, then you will act out your desires and so destroy your self-image. In life, the basic matters that matter are spontaneous, subtle and on their own. They are the same as regarding the universe as the way it is and the manifestations of things as what they are.

All things were born and reborn by their eternal natures.Hence they were spoken of as "the myriad".From their ever-widening depths, we can clearly see that they resemble something: made of stone.Living all things were born of those depths.All things are born of the depths.Everything is born of the depths.Truly, there is nothing like it.It is as if the single thread of the Universe unravels and then unravels again.It is the primal, and the indescribable.It is as if the Great Remembers.It is as if the Great Remembers is the perfect moment of the Life.It is as if the Great Remembers is the root of the Great Lives.As long as the Great Lives endure, thus, yes, with the rise of Humanity, might also begin, and with that of things, begins.Yes, things, when they begin, are of the most minute form.And so are the Gods.The Gods call themselves "As they are forever, and forever more."As soon as they have established themselves, they go back into being.As soon as they have come out of the Cave of Infinity, they go back into chaos.As soon as they have become beautiful, they become ugly again.As soon as they have become intelligent, they become stupid again.As soon as they have become to achieve greatness, they are cast down.They are cast down. And so they rise, and go back down.The great brings forth the small;The great spreads far and wide.The great forsooth gives birth to the small.And so, for the small, the great cannot fail.The great must have the small, too.Thus all things have an beginning and an end;The gods have an origin and an end.Yes, with great, great comes great again;And great forsooth bears the small,The small forsooth bears the great.The great forsooth exists for ever;And so the living body has an end.Therefore the great must be great,And also the smallest;The small is the great,And the great the small.For the great body, the small is the great,And the small is the great,And so is the great the small.Thus we see how the different parts of the body are made up of the same substanceAnd how they are joined together to make up a greater whole.As the great is always great,and the small is

The different kinds of life have been with us since the beginning. They are to be regarded as the Light, namely, the Creative Force. The root and the outcome are different, but the essence of each remains the same. It is their multitudinous patterns that constitute their beauty. Each is as tenuous as a block of wood. One is able to grasp its various possibilities, but one cannot stay with its unity. The utterer will collapse when he is forced to do things his way. The chief magistrate, seeing the light within the world, can not deny it and will not. He is correct in the belief that what is light is the root; and that what is dark is the outcome. He is correct in the belief that the core is the foundation. So it is with the king and royal family. Their unity is the fundamental unity of all things, and what is called the primary truth. How illustrious this is! Never be disordered, never forsake self-mastery! To be, and to remain, in fullness.

The highest virtue is so deep and enduring that it hardly merits acknowledgment. The life of Nature is hidden and multitudinous. Its way and its image are different. Although, though, they are all with us as, by reference to this one universal life, the Dao leaves no occasion to assert itself.

To understand the beauty of Tao,

To appreciate the way is to have the way
And not the way.
To keep what is in constant motion is called enlightenment
To be partial to what is there is called success
To be filled with what is there is called contentment
To be with what is there is called merit
Only those with integrity can realize the Way.
Those without integrity cannot be illuminated by Tao.
To be spiritual is to be alive.
To be perfected is to be complete.
Those who have no ends do not lead;
Those who achieve do not cause harm.
Those who choose the weak will not win;
Those who lead by following the weak will fail.
If the Wise Man is ever peaceful
He is like an undisturbed river
And the State is like an undisturbed valley.
Be like the valleys,
Hold to the untouched
Hold to the simplicity,
And you can be alive.
Be like an undisturbed river,
Be like an uncarved wood.
Be like wood.
In the simple olden days,
There was no carving, no carving,
No carving, no no carving.
But the TAO WE COOKED up and down!
But the great teaching grew

The uncarved like the wood,
The unhewn like stone.
There was something there that never took a shape,

They all lived in purity, as well as light,
As the valleys do
For even the slightest dust can glow as it does in the light of the sun.
When the Wise Man did not depend on the physical,
He could be close to the Valley.
When the Sage did not depend on the physical,
He could be close to the Valley.
Wherever an idea is, the idea grows.
Wherever the Tao can become manifest, the Tao takes on form.
Wherever a vision is, the vision emerges.
Wherever a person needs to follow, a person needs to find peace, the Truth can become found.
Wherever the wise person can take action, the wise person can take action.

We all do it, but the people never do it. The way of the world is close. It moves slowly and evenly; heaven is also calm and full. Earth is tranquil and whole; the divine energy takes root in the union of each other. With each other's guidance, truth is made clear. If one does not have faith, the one will be left behind. To believe is to be unstudied. To be unstudied is to be freed. And to be freed, Heavens is wont to erupt. Earth is wont to quake. The spirit will not work. If we could master the Way, we would let go of affairs we are conscious of and focus on the things that are natural. If the Way is centered, then we would become detached from affairs and interactions, be tranquil, and be at peace. It is not enlightened. It may overflow, but it does not blow away. It is not firm. It is not a wall. It is not afraid to move. It is not bound by a binding contract. It is not dependent on earth for its foundation. Being aware of what is natural, we create the foundations of the things of this world. The Wise Ones are aware of everything. We believe in ourselves, which is not true. The true belief is that we are part of nature. The Wise Person is at one with everything and everything is part of them. We need to work together to provide the foundation for the world. Knowing that the Heaven and Earth have unity is called inner harmony. The Truth is alone that in it is the essence of all beings and in it there is harmony.Without unity the spirit and the spirit without soul cannot exist in the universe.Without unity the Earth could fail to serve as the mother of the universe.Without unity, the spirits could not be genuine and without knowledge the universal nature. If there were no distinction of human and divine, on earth might lose its primal spirituality and become secular and corrupt.Thus the Sage, in seeing the unity of the universe, always puts himself at the center, lives in harmony, and abides in the heavenly creatures, though, on the one hand, he prides himself on his being like the earth, and on the other, he cherishes the earth. How little are they who know how to work through solid ground!
How little they have, who can be master over them!
What comes out of heaven in its pristine condition is illumined and perfected.
What falls down takes its foundation, and from this, becomes everything.
Nothingness is nothingness, and so all things become one.
By this unity Heaven, Earth, and Spirit are pervaded, and men become one with them.
All men become in their turn united to the Providence, which works in them.
To realize this unity, just concentrate it in the one, and thereby get everything under heaven.
Everything has that unity, so everything turns toward it.
But if you try to do that, all you do is to rob it of the unity, and turn it into a thing.
When you rob something of its unity, you rob it of its freedom.
You must know the origin of your own freedom.
Get free from all these ambitions, and you will surely become a real man.
You know the nature of your Self, and have no choice but to be one with that source.
This is the origin of your intellectual freedom, the nature of your Infinite Mind, the way in which the greatest of all things is produced.

You will not know everything. You know how much you know.
Go on.
By everything that has come out of the common Earth, the Heavens, and the Spirits, we know that it comes from the same source.
They have created the same effect, with the same value,
however, in different forms.
They have produced the same effect, in different ways.
They have created the same effect, in different places.
They have produced the same effect, in different times.
They have produced the same effect, in different forms.
They have produced the same effect, but in different ways.
They have produced the same effect, in different forms.
The same effect has produced the same appearance.
They have produced the same appearance, and have given us the Universe.
This comes from the same source.
Thus we say that the principles of Nature are incorporeal.
In other words, they have no body.
No body is no body.
They can create and exist at the same time.
Thus they are like the ocean

Rather he will employ the stone tools of the lowly.
He will not adorn himself with costly jade vases and rare beads,
Rather he will simply use the simple implements of the lower class.
That is how the Tao will get right to work in every country where humanity has a vital place.
Direction such as this:
This is the way it was for All Things,
from the starting point of the Stars to the Meeting Rooms of the Earth,
as it has been the way of the Tao ever since the beginning.

B. That which is great cannot be reduced.
C. That which is small cannot be diminished.
D. That which is simple cannot be greatly reduced.
E. That which is natural cannot be greatly reduced.
F. That which is indifferent cannot be greatly reduced.
G. That which is spiritual cannot be greatly reduced.

In the average man, it is beyond human capacity.

Be humble before the Tao.
Even people of lesser virtue cannot be mastered.
Those who are not at all modest,
Are a source of great trouble.
Lowliness in the Tao is to be feared.
Highest places may be lost.
Lose high places, you lose your mind.
To the depth of the Tao is the depth of fear.
At the depth of the Tao are the depths of fear.
Hence the great does not tremble at the diminution.
Thus, greatness is feared by the weak as well.
Be humble before people of lesser virtue.
Leaders will not dare to fear the great.
Therefore, it is a grave peril.

If you are humble before the Way, you will be in a good position to be called on in the future.
If you are high on fame, fame will come back to you and destroy your personality.
If you blow the whistle, blow it smartly and without concern.
If you say "only with me, said lovingly", it won't last.
If you lose your place, then you lose your place.

He will not try to make a show of himself.
For the sake of his empire, he will act as humble as the timber log is the foreman (or chief executive) looks to the car for the center of his vision.

As kind as he looks out for his people, so he looks out for himself.

If his faith is not there, he will not be kept.

The righteous are different from the wicked.
The righteous move on,

Goodness is a ladder,
and the wicked are the corners.
The righteous hold onto what they have,
and the wicked cast away everything.
Goodness is an overflowing river,
and the wicked encroach upon everything.
The righteous stand up and do no harm,
and the wicked look on and do harm.
The righteous are single and together,
and the wicked are separated and alone.
The righteous keep to their birthright,

The righteous lay low,

Humble are the heads of the righteous,

A truly great ruler is one who would create peace and joy within the empire,
And not to show such a jewel.

When Yin the sacred was lost,
The ten thousand things sprang to life.
The Ten Thousand Things were born of Yin.
Yin is invisible, unnamable.
It does not enter the belly,
It does not leave the heart,
And so has no reproductive qualities.
It becomes equal to the earth,
Rejoins with the vegetable kingdom
And is capable of reproductive ability.
It becomes equal to heaven,
Becomes lord over heaven,
Puts down heaven,
Widespread multitudes of things come under its rule.
It becomes one with Nature.
It has reproductive potential;
It is equal to the Sage.
It is called the fruit of the womb.
The Sage's being veiled and 'tightens up' His teaching.
A Sage moves like a breeze
Without exuding mystery or impurity.
And without being a vessel to the world.
He fills his body, humbles himself,
Unites with the myriad qualities
And fills his mind.
While his work may seem very great,
it is only his body that holds the world in place.
This is how the great Sage acts.
He stays in the midst of the body.
While his work seems great, it is only his mind that stands at the heart of things.
This is why the great sage acts with Tao.
When Tao is felt by the Tao spirit,
He cannot be rejected.
That is why the great men were never rejected by Tao,
Only rejected by themselves.

Ancient times could be considered as following the Tao: The Tao flowing in all directions: Indistinctly. The Tao unifies, each pulls along and flows back in the same direction: The Tao real and intact: The ten thousand things harmonize and arise and yield, Exactly the same thing as Tao flowing in all directions In the Tao there is no differentiation: All entities are ever perfectly blended: The hundred thousand things are uniting and growing and flourishing, And each of them returns in a very small space, Just the same as the Tao flows in all directions. And by keeping to the Tao they realize perfection in their day. The Tao does not act in this world. It is the nameless and never-used source of everything that happened in the world.

The ancient clay pot is the basic of all vessels. It is invisible, yet it can be used. It is immaterial, yet can be used. It is at rest, yet it can be used. It is beautiful, yet can be used. Everything within its container becomes useful, becomes beautiful. If not, it would become worthless. This is why the ancient people did not use it for carrying things, nor for conveying anything. When they carried anything, they always carried it safely. When they handled precious things, they always kept them safely. When they did not use anything, they naturally had nothing to lose. Because the Ancients have not cared about valuing things, they do not need valuing things.

When all things originate, As the Unknowable originated, Then the shape becomes clear to the senses: The wind is a whirlwind of dark, Yet it is the shape of the wind that Is bright. As water vapor diffuses, In times of flooding the appearance appears, Yet it is the shape of water That is changing. Heaven and earth of old Have existed in calmness; In times of flooding, The appearance of darkness; As valleys flow into the sky, The shape of the sky On the contrary, cloudless and then dark, From this source of the clouds Their form became seen; And the sky thus formed Is dark, But the sky is a plain: The shape of the plain, In times of flooding, Difficultly It is seen, And the form of the plain is plain: The valley passing into the sea, The shape of the sea, Difficult to see, And the shape of the valley With flooding follows flooding. Hence there is a change in appearance; Heaven and earth of old, That is to say, Calm, Has originated again; When the change is seen, Is the change visible. Hence the highest that is seen, Is the shape of that which was plain. The shape of the plain is that which remains plain. This is the ultimate point of view; The summit of the highest view is the plain. Hence, Heaven and earth has origin of the shape. The shape of the plain, Heaven and earth, In times of flooding Has become clear; Plain is the source of clearness. On the summit of the highest, Heaven and earth, Clearness, is absolute.

From the earliest times men of superior intelligence have held to the Principle. [1]
When they did so,
They were most enlightened;
They were also free from folly,
They were also profound,
They were also simple,
They were also vigorous,
They were also smart,
They were also erudite and wise,
They were also firm,
They were also illustrious,
They were also low and worthless,
They were also the chief of families,
They were also [the first] strong men of the land;
Therefore,
They are usually bright and glittering;
They are the best at working and ruling;
They are most repose and rest
And therefore,
They are the lowest among the ten thousand.

They are the best at drawing upon others,
They are most hard to control,
They are the most reckless,
They are the best at governing their own affairs;
They are the best at saving their own lives.
They are the most profound in their knowledge and their action;
They are the best at exercising their will and effecting their wishes.
Thus,
They are the poorest of all in being exalted and wise;
They are the least deficient in being genuine and true.
The latter they are.
Why are they so

Leaders of old used to think of the realmAs a simple residence, And use the coarse counter as their daily utility.
In their ignorance of the former, They believed the stones to be very fine, And it is the past appearance of their utensils that they consider as impracticable.
That they may govern well, They should use the counter as their daily symbol.
They think that such use is only impracticable if they consider the counter as a facility, And the mere possession of the counter as useless, And the mere organization of their lives as degrading.
Not too many years ago, As for the use of the counter, This is quite different: It is a simple instrument, Just as long as it is used, And it should be understood as a simple object.
Not too many months ago, As for the use of the counter, This is quite different: It is a simple instrument, Just as long as it is used, And it should be understood as a simple object.
Thus it was that those who had the following smiled upon their own bright way of living;
The good-tempered smiled upon their own clarity;
The right-minded smiled upon their own justice;
And the honest-hearted smiled upon their own gentleness.
On the one hand, the good-tempered smiled upon his way of life; On the other, the good-minded smiled upon his goodness; The honest-hearted smiled upon his honesty; And the just-hearted smiled upon his virtue.
