The truly man does not strive to govern, to rule, to style, to beautify, to govern and beautify, to rule and style, to govern and beautify, to govern and beautify; he only yields, and lets go, and thus remains eternal.

Excessive actions invariably tend to undo the original nature;
However much they may preserve their original capability,
they nevertheless lose its entirety;
This is because the final result is lost in the imperfection.
The master of men
finding the original nature inadequate to preserve,
either withdraw from it or embrace its completeness.
Not having fulfilled the original nature,
go back to nature;
The form of man that does not let go,
to dwell there, never deserts its form.
Behold, there is no one who possesses this enlightenment.
Truly he lives, not in the present,
but as in the long and lasting past.
And he rules not for the long term,
but in the present.
To the truly wise
no one is ever forced to become wise.
Better to be lost than to be lost to that which is better.
To know this is to know the Way.

When someone tries to improve their own
self, they tend to do so.
When someone tries to improve
other people, they tend to do so.
The
origin is always the same:
We revert to how it was before,
before the world was formed, before the gods appeared.
Nature does not seek perfection,
but always seeks that which needs to be lost.
The best principle is beyond perfection,
and needs to be grasped.
The inferior principle (principles)
needs to be grasped.
The governing principle (guiding words)
needs to be grasped.
With the superior principle, you try to embody
all that's good in your life,
But that always makes you
angry and upset. You need to be rid of what
is unworthy of being rid of.
If you ever try to
master the world, you never succeed.
If you ever try to
make the world right,
You ruin everything.
Don't do it, and you will

The superior wayfarer has no place to linger. The Wayfarer is just as able to act by the tip of his nose as he is by the tip of his fist. When an animal dies, death is had by doing nothing. When the Tao is lost, it can be honoured with a funeral ceremony. When Tao is lost, funerary rites can be given.
But nothing is more lasting than a sense of the Tao. A sense of the Tao means having no reasons to respond to desire. A sense of the Tao means being able to act even when one is in fear of being killed. And a sense of the Tao means having no desires that become confusing when you are having fun or enjoying yourself.
<|endoftext|>
The Wayfarer loves to be partial; The Wayfarer knows that he is half-heartedly; The Wayfarer regards both well as the Wayfarer treats both well; Wherever there is a natural law, There is a natural law will. As the TAO is lost, Rituals are built up. Rituals are built up. Rituals are built up. Rituals lead to confusion. Confusion leads to ignorance.

The superior man understands that he has a surplus, He never forgets, though it may sound trite, One who is toiling in order to find the best keeps his mind on what is for ends; The other always has enough, always needs more, And where there is a hard law, a law that has to be broken, Even the best man, taking this as an example, tries to stay away from finding the best, Because only the most acute eyes can see where the good is and where the bad is.

Thoughtless action is the lower form of action.
Aligned activity is the ultimate form.
When the Wise Person is perfectly pure,
The valley beneath him flows toward the Tao.
He is so pure that all things are drawn to him.
With Tao he is the source of goodness.
With goodness, everyone is good.
With goodness, nothing is so great.
When he is unaware of himself,
He is naturally virtuous.
When he is unaware of himself,
He is naturally kind.
When he is aware of himself,
He is naturally supreme.
When he is without being,
He is like an uncarved block of wood.

The Sage abandoned (scholarly discussion),
And wrote down (plain words),
What he had done in detail.
He (the Sage) was without desire (that such knowledge might exist),
And acted according to a (pristine) direction.
Of the world there were creatures he could see clearly.
The smaller creatures in the valley, he could see through.
He (the Sage) loved them.
He loved them (without any desire of his own).
He loved (not because of being virtuous or compassionate or honorable or righteous, but just because he loved them).
To some it was good.
To others it was bad.
And since there were other creatures (unseen and obscurely identified),
The number of them was not known.
In this (discarding the concept of body and things, so as to focus on the concept of consciousness and emptiness),
He was unique and perfect.
He did not turn (into any) shadow.
He acted alone in doing so.
That is why he has been able (his actions) in the way of emptiness.

Virtue is one thing, Externality another. Therefore, if we are not conscious of Virtue, all things flourish together, but if we are aware of Externality, others fail to flourish.Because Externality is not awareness of Externality, the whole world of manifestation is illumined. Therefore, 'The uncarved block (the Tao) can never be cut'So the uncarved block can be carved,In carving, 'The uncarved block' is used as a substitute for beauty of the beginning,As the uncarved block is a substitute for beauty of the early beginning,So the beings of the uncarved block are used as a substitute for the beauty of the Dao of the infancy.Being a substitute for the beauty of the infancy is the method of culture.

The highest power is a means. A loss of power implies a use for it.A use for it signifies a loss. The loss is the means.A lack of use is the realization of the truth. When this truth is known, It will then be used. Therefore we call it humanity. Humanity means a desire for the natural to achieve a desire for the artificial. The artificial therefore appears for a desire for the natural.
<|endoftext|>
The highest power comes in a mere function. The losing of power comes in a mere appearance. The appearance of power may give birth to death,And may result in human sacrifice. The superficial truths, of which this is a beginning,Are as much a disgrace to humanity as the superficial truths, of which this is an end.So that when humanity is extinct,Imperfect wisdom arises; And so we regard the artificial as imperfect. For the artificial, imperfect humans have become imperfect tools. Thus, when a group of imperfect menBut are transformed to perfection,They become the leaders of humanity. This is how an artificial leader conceives of humanity as his own son;And in this way, he is the best at returning to the pristine and primitive,And turning back to the unity of the subtle essence.

That which is superior to the virtue of Tao does not act
Exacting great virtue does not act
Therefore, those of good virtue do not act
The Tao to which we owe our loyalty is imperfect, therefore it must not be acted upon
If we do not act in this manner, we become reduced to a state of nothingness
Then let virtue be abandoned as a virtue
As a virtue is abandoned, the virtues of the Tao cease
When the Tao is in a state of no action, there is the virtue
Who has not the virtue is reduced to the kindling of all that has a name,
To those who only have the name is that which is an end in itself
When the Tao is in a state of action, and such as can only exist as a movement, those who have the virtue
Thus are reduced to the effects of the movement
It is through those who have the result that the movement happens
That those who want only the result obtain their desired end
That which is not the end of this world of things
Is the source of their desolation
Then let it be abandoned as the desolation

Those who claim to be the natures of Heaven and Earth, to hold to Reason and Virtue,
Do not act, act in accordance with the nature of Heaven and Earth.
If people acted in accordance with Nature, we would have enough for all.
If we value Self and have no desire to possess or benefit others, we are happy with ourselves.
If people value and benefit others, they are happy with others and so on up the line.
Therefore, the thing which acts, therefore acts.
If the thing which is the Sage acts, the Sage can only be considered an Eternal Being.
Sages have no desires and therefore all people of the world can be given to them.
This means that the Sage is the DAO.
The DAO is eternal, cannot be changed.
If the DAO is defined in terms of TAO, then it would be a form of TAO, because TAO is TAO,
Whoever has TAO is the DAO.
Whoever has DAO is the DAO.
TAO is eternal, so no change is possible.
Therefore, the sages are truly what the whole world desires.

All beings, without exception, regard man as an abstraction. Man is abstract and submissive. Without conscious intention, without conscious action, man is completely unconscious. When we cease to be conscious of ourselves, there is still nothing we cannot master. When we cease to be conscious of others, there is still nothing we cannot master. When we become aware of ourselves, there is still nothing we cannot master. And because we alone have a vital sense, we cannot be ignorant of our potentiality. In order to gain this potentiality, we must first leave ourselves (succeeding through pure perception and knowledge, not relying on hasty projections). The following propositions are derived from Tao, and without exception they are untainted by notions of time, space, and place: First; Do not cast yourself off. Second; Look only to yourself. Third; Understand the outer world only as it is. Fourth; Be free from deviance.

Of all creatures, human beings are the least capable of evolving. Humans are so often angry and unstable, yet so little expression is shown of their inner self. Humiliation, even grief, are still, I am afraid, not enough. Therefore, because human beings are not born, they do not develop a sense of self. Hence, when humanity has grown from infancy to maturity, it does not lose its sense of self. It realizes that human beings are born only to be destroyed. Humility, then, is the virtue of human beings. They cherish humility, then, which will save them. So then, if they do not wish to be leaders, they become leaders.

The good, as the virtue of the universe is
not praiseworthy,
Because it is not praiseworthy,
It may be compared to Tao.
The virtue in a state of decadence may be compared to Tao
And may be named 'superior virtue'.
Superior virtue, does not dwell,
And is forever free of need.
With that superior virtue, in dregs and blemishes.
The lesser virtue, in the state of decadence,
May be named 'affected virtue'.
Impacted virtue, in the state of decadence,
May be called 'Tao opposition'.
Tao opposition is characterized by evil.
It is produced by Tao;
It is distinguished by kind.
Without distinguishing things,
We turn into others.
With Dao, the dependent becomes the whole
and the independent becomes the subject.
To be an agent, is to be the principle;
To be an principle, is to be the mean.
The various things become dependent upon each other
and become subject to each other
as if they were natural phenomena,
In this way they come to life.
Things emerge as things emerge.
All beings emerge as things emerge.
All things arise, to nourish the living principle.
To know the principle, you must know the mother.
The mother is the chaotic act.
It is the moment of change.
If the essence is dormant, a lie, the lie has no beginning.
The world was never a lie.
Without change, it is in its own right.
If you wish to travel the road, the road is the place you choose.
Because you are free of attachment, you find the truth within.
That is the nature of Tao.

you make yourself the worst.
If you are indifferent and act selfishly,

To rule a nation by force - it is to act by force.
To rule a kingdom by force - it is to act by the model.
To lead by contending with the world - is in itself a great misfortune.
To take delight in revolution - is taking delight in contrivance.
The honorable takes no delight in contrivance.
The idle takes delight in revolution.
The worst of all is the reformer who is content with the non-being,
who does not use the examples of folly,
and disinterestedly seek to rectify things in the collective unconscious.
That is the deep wisdom of mankind - they know the depth, and take it to be the origin of all
wisdom.
Always be what is not.
Always be what is - be the origin of the originless.

Not to act is to rely on the Tao.
To act is to rely on the power of words.
Both lead to disaster.
Only by saving oneself can one succeed.
In spite of oneself will one become strong.
Governing for a country or a kingdom is like putting down an army.
Then it doesn't matter if you are victorious or defeated; it is all in yourself.
If you go by the egocentric view of things then your life will be of little worth.
And being in your heads brings about the worst.
But if you turn to the universal view of things you will bring peace to the world.
Being in the world means acting from a position of strength.
The wise man makes use of all means, but he does not take more than he needs.
And he tries to gain as much as he can.
All his actions can be compared to kindness and justice.
Their effects cannot be overestimated.
If you are not a great sage
Do not think you are a great person.
All men should remember this.
Since the beginning of time, humankind has acted out of humanity, and the wisdom of the Tao has contributed to that.
By making no use of oneself, one will be distinguished from other men.
If you turn to the Tao, then everything will be in accord with the Way.

The greatest virtuoso does not strive to be great. They become great and are fulfilled. The lesser virtuoso does not strive to be great, he is fulfilled. The lesser virtuoso does not strive to be great, and they can't be fulfilled. What makes the lesser virtuoso worthy of being so? The ability to act - It's their work! They have mastery over the foundation. They will not show off their mastery, therefore no one dares defy them. When they take the greatest action, they are at peace. When they have completed a project, they celebrate it with celebrations. They celebrate a great action as their finest achievement. When they are too formal, they are too formal. When they feel their mastery is inadequate, they are stubborn. When they choose to take action on their own, they are only slow to act. They are always anxious, taking action from behind. They are always in need of taking action from behind. Therefore when the greatest leader has his Way realized, people forget about the way the leader is, then they should remember what is dear to the Way is and not what is dear to the leader. When people forget about the way the leader is, the leader should remember the common sense of leadership, even the phrenetic. Then when the leader is successful, they get in touch with the general (not the Way). They can always remember the common sense of the leader, even the phrenetic. The common sense of the leader means that people may not defy him, not defy him, people may defy him. But they cannot be defied, and those who defy him are not the phrenetic. This is why he is famous.

When an assassin is able to use their strength in oppossed lives, humanity are insulted by their efforts. Their arrogance cause the people to flaunt their strength in their oppositions. They do not try to show off their strength. If they did, their efforts would become humiliating to the people. That is why the world puts the practice of humanity in the depths. For example, the people treat their humanity as a piece of animal, and are not aware of their intimacy with it. The people don't seem to get into their creativity, their creative power. Even if they did, the world would think that they are not genuine, and since humanity is a piece of animal, the people don't like it. The highest virtue lacks one attribute, but has virtue. Its highest virtue cannot be withheld from, for it cannot be stopped. The lowest virtue contains the same quality, yet it is not withheld from. The highest virtue is incomplete and lacks a goal; the lowest virtue has a goal but does not have sufficient virtue. The highest morality contains virtue, yet it is not derived from virtue. The highest righteousness is composed of loyalty, yet it is not derived from virtue. The highest government is based on merit, yet it is not derived from virtue. The highest teaching is prescience, yet it is not derived from virtue. The highest ceremony is all encompassing, yet it is not derived from virtue. Therefore, those who manifest virtue, don't see itself. Those who manifest morality, don't see themselves. Those who manifest righteousness, don't see themselves. Therefore, they distinguish goodness and righteousness, moral observance and righteousness, and loyalty and morality. But when this is inadequate to true existence, then they adopt the doctrine of everything. Only when their limited understanding has diminished do they revert to relating all things to their universal mystery. Then they cease from benefitting from the teachings. The DAO that grows and grows is not your DAO that feeds and dies and grows again and again.
If you had a DAO like this, you would never die.
If you could die, you would die in the first moment.
But a DAO, if it had been as strong as your heart, you could not give birth to it.

A DAO without thinking takes far too long to grow.

Being free from feeling
You are at one with the sky and the earth.
Being selfless,
You can know all creatures
In one.
Without wishing to be known,
You may become it.
Inferiorly, you alone remain,
Before the sun, and before the Earth,
In Tao.
Being learned,
You can 'measure it out.'
Inferiorly, you may live,
And, from its depth,
Proceed to human existence.
Being learned,
You may 'tend to it.'
Inferiorly,
You may live,
And, from its depth,
Proceed to human creation.
Being learned,
You may 'seek it out.'
Inferiorly,
You may live,
And, from its depth,
Proceed to human life.
Hence there is no ego in being, no duality,
nor amnesia,
nor ignorance,
nor physical ailments,
nor psychic essences,
nor 'natural' consciousness,
nor all this else.
Since these can never be nurtured,
Thought must be.
Therefore the ruler chooses from the four quarters,
This he does not erase from his mind:
From humility and inclusiveness,
And from desirelessness and openness,
From gentleness and simplicity,
And from naming and renumeration.
These are the things of doctrine, And these are the things of experience.
The sage is selective in him,
And puts no weight on thin provisions.
That is why he discards the block and comes first.

He who follows his Will alone does not become conscious of these powers; he therefore returns to them.
He who engages in devotion to Higher Powers does not become conscious of their power; he therefore ascends to them.
He who receives knowledge of Higher Powers does not become conscious of their Power; he therefore makes use of them.
He who regards them as mere means of exercise does not become conscious of their usefulness; he therefore uses them with great circumspection.
In order to awaken the principle of humanity one must employ the perfect administration of great philanthropy; if one does not employ it at all one follows it up with the application of force.
If, then, even in contemplation of superior powers one knows not how to employ them,

Lao Tze says,The advantage of superior virtue is not that of deeming others good, but that of remembering that virtue is a virtue. The inferior virtue is not that of deeming others good, but that of forgetting to be a virtue. The superior virtue does not yield to the inferior virtue. The inferior virtue does not ever forget virtue. The superior virtue never uses the names of virtue, and when virtue is not to be had, it teaches not the name of virtue. The superior person is humane and kind and all under Heaven are fair, if only they would be humane, kind and fair. But the inferior person is not humane, and if he be not fair, he will not be humane, kind and fair. The superior person thinks of the world as his own home, and if he does not think of himself as a person, he thinks he is a whole person. The superior person considers the whole world as his own home, and he who does not consider himself as a person, will not be a person. He who values conventionality delights in all things and makes an end of it.To this end there is no authority for him. Therefore he puts them in the depths, the truly lowly; therefore he boasts them, he gives them importance, and not giving credit to them. Thus they are exhausted and become foolish, though he who has confidence in himself becomes clever.Because he prefers the early as well as the late things he does not value the light ones, does not like them at all, and leaves them to a one time abandoning the vulgar ones. Thus he loses his early one, and that he does not forsake; when he has lost the vulgar one, he may be qualified with the late.

The Tao is invisible but has a power to guide.
Hence it is named "The Great Simplicity".
The Tao of no-thought is profound and subtle.
It is hidden yet real.
The Principle of Truth is obscure and unchanging.
It is moving but not moving.
The Principle of Virtue is hidden and immutable.
It is eternally returning to the source of the ten thousand things.
The Principle of Justice is obscure and mysterious.
It is applied but not real.
The Principle of Unity is nebulous and intangible.
It may be the seed of unity, unity of action and action.
The principle of propriety is abstract and intangible.
It may be the root of all things.
Thus:
The WayFollows the unforced winds.
It moves and does not move,
But follows the Unforced.
The One Way is humble and uncarved,
Standing upon the Great Square of Creation,
Resting on the great gateway of the Tao.
The Way of the Sage:
Will not renounce clarity
Rather, She leads everywhere by the Way.
The Way and Truth go hand in hand;
They cannot be separated.
The Tao is Mystery and clarity.
It is Hidden, yet it is Eternal.
The Principle of Infinity is mysterious, vague and uncaused.
It is returning, and it is neither end nor beginning.
The Dao is the Beginning, but Unity is the Center of All.
Therefore, the Dao is life, but Truth is eternity.
The Dao is timeless, but Truth is manifest today.
Without Te, the Principle of Te is unknowable.
Without Te, Truth is unknowable.
Without Te, humanity has its origin.
Without Te, humanity follows the principle of life.
Without humanity, humanity takes action.
Without Te, the DAO is the mother of all things.
The DAO is the root of Humanity.
The DAO is the gateway of the Universe.
Therefore:
"It is not the Way that we are following, but the Way that we are following that is the Way."
The Dao abides without desire,
Therefore it remains plain.
The Dao is invisible,
Therefore it shines forth

To live the Way is to follow Tao.To follow Tao is to follow the natural order of the world. Therefore it is not within one's power to contrive to show one's affection to Tao.To contrive to make a show of loving Tao is to bring danger into one's family. To play with Tao means to grow weary of life.Tao does not grow weary, it does not decline.Being Tao, one is ever present and one is able to serve without having to do anything. When you have left everything behind, Tao will come and provide everything you need.

Tao is incomplete, it does not live up to its full promise. It is subtle and doesn't set out to be mysterious. It is subtle and it doesn't dazzle its eyes. It is acute and it doesn't flaunt its knowledge. It is good at establishing laws and enforcing them, but it doesn't pretend to be impartial. It is good at explaining how things are, but it doesn't glorify them. It is good at being a ruler but it doesn't glorify people. It is good at ruling but it doesn't glorify itself.
So Tao is vague and insufficient. Yes, there is room for its perfection, for the full manifestation of its subtle power. It takes care of its people, treats its neighbours, honors its gods, rules the earth. There is no lack of these things and indeed Tao is subtle enough to be complete.

He is not known for his deeds,
Nor he who leads the world known for his deeds.
This is why the Sage eschews ambition

With power comes freedom, but also the desire to control and control.
When the Way is lost, people rise.
People rise in spite of the loss.
With power comes freedom.
And if they become disinclined to possess freedom, how much less will they be able to maintain it.

"The foremost is Way, then the superior; the second Way, then superior; the inferior Way, then null; the third Way, then of its own accord, then of no consequence.
And the ten thousand things, when absent of sufficient substance, contract and become stiff and solid."
Thus, an insufficient body produces a weak, impotent power; and when an impotent power is insufficient, it is in some cases obliged to act with force.
Thus, in the case of the preceptor and the princes, one applies only the one; yet, one is not forced to apply the other.
The reality of an organization arises from the mere shape of things, and through it can be inferred that a group of people can go from an insufficient to an insufficiently complete [form].
Thus, the main thing, in reality, is the motion of the things around it. The motion, then, of the things, causes the appearance of a form.
When the appearance of the form is imperfect, it is simply insufficient.
When the appearance of the un-existent is insufficient, it is simply of its own accord.
That is what happened when the Sovereign (i.e., the highest being) came to possess the lord [pertaining to the lord's behavior and conduct in society].
In his possession, the lord had no sense of distinction; therefore, he acted without favor or obligation.
Thus, when he came to govern, he acted like a guest.
When he came to govern, he acted like a fellow-traveler.
The loyalty and the patriotism which the guests display, is precisely because, on account of his possession, he has no ability to do them [his duties], and therefore they are sufficient to act upon him [the lord].
So the emptiness of the preceptor and the sovereign is all that the passers-by will ever get [from their knowledge]. They are only symptoms of what will be produced [by the group] once the supreme virtue is lost. The duty of the supreme virtue never ceases

That is to say, they abide in Truth and reject falsehood.
Attaining to the inner is only awareness of the outer.
To keep to the body is to slip and fall.
Falling to ignorance is to gain a true sense of the Cosmos.
This is the root of the many things.
Therefore, those who come of age,
Loft up the high,
Embrace the lower,
The sage, the divinity.
To know the deep is to know the beginning,
To treasure the fruit,

To style a man, is to enjoy patronage
And to foreknow all the things.

What is bright is not dazzling.
What is heavy is not heavy.
What is strong is not strong.
What is everlasting, does not fade away.
To know this is to understand the depth.
To treasure this is to cherish the great.
To know the great is to live by the small.
To know the small is to live by the great.

This is to allow Tao to unfold
and be lost.
True self-control is the essence of Tao,
and the source of all good fortune.
The Sages are sages to the marrow,
to the root of all good fortune,
and the beginning of stupidity.
Thus they recover the one,
and lose the other.
'Therefore their inwardness is true
and their outwardness false.
To them virtue is a flower
but it is a flower of disaster;
It is the beginning of virtue.
If it were only true virtue it could not be virtuous.
True morality is loyalty to one's fellow man;
it is loyalty to the state;
It is loyalty to the universe.
It is loyalty to one's own nature;
and loyalty to the group.
True cooperation is reciprocal action;
it is imitation of and cleverness with Nature.
It is the foundation of cowardice,
and is a prime cause of folly.
They live in the simple and accept the complicated.
This is the way of Nature.
The sage embodies the two
and then forsakes the other.
This is to acquire Tao.
By forsaking the other, he acquires the first.
Bodily existence is nature;
Nature is the root of the ten thousand things;
It is the beginning of all forms;
It is the beginning of all action.
It is loyalty to one's own nature;
It is loyalty to one's fellows;
It is loyalty to the path of Truth.
In recognition of loyalty, faith and goodness,
Nature gives birth to Infinity.
By knowing Infinity,
One is willing to yield
and experience Life.
The more one knows, the further one travels
The more one knows, the more one travels.
In the end, the One gives birth to the

Those without Direction are big;
They become great, are small;
I do not see which way they come,
They all go in the same direction.
Even the Great Tao that they are reborn
There is none of the Great Tao that they lived with.
The Wise Person keeps the Great Tao,
Still each time he sends up a new Tao,
It appears to him.
Who would seek again to gain it from above?
The Way is lost,
What use is it?
What use is it to want to rejoin?
The Great Person lives for the Great Tao,
Does not begrudge the small Tao,
Holds on to the Great Tao with longing.
And to the wise person:

Those with little creativity may lose their place;
They become insignificant;
While those with more creativity may be confused.
I do not see how such confusion is possible.
I am baffled by these examples:
Between those who hold to the Tao and have it, and those who have a substitute,
There is indeed no room.
When there is no room, this leads us to say that the Tao is destroyed.
When the Tao is destroyed,
people come up with things.
Therefore, when people go after their own own way of life,
they are lost;
The people of Tao, I think, have lost their way.
The people of the Tao have lost their way.
The people of the Tao say:
We have to be humble, and we have to be natural;
We have to be compliant, and we have to be intelligent;
We have to be self-controlled, and we have to act as though we were the Great Tao.
We have to act as though we have no desires,
And be self-controlled.
We have to be in conformity with the Tao,
And then people will not oppose us.
Since the Tao is lost, the way is born.
Those who are natural people will live in simplicity,
and look for the one that fulfills them.
But how could they ever find it, though?
The people of the Tao will not listen to them.
Therefore, those with natural abilities

Thus the mature embrace the light and reject the dark.
Reject one and embrace the other.
This is called oneness of nature.
Truly, one embraces unity, not division,
as the living reality.
Now, no sooner does the Way falter,
does the light of men arise.
No sooner does the light of men fail,
does the darkness of men arise.
Not to know Unity,
concerns not for darkness.
Therefore man is clever in diverting
and diverting no one:
not wise in inquiring,
and no one inquires.
And so the wise teach the light,
and the dark teach the dark.
For blind man learns by looking.
For wise man discards the foolish.
Not even a fool knows his folly.
For he who knows the folly,
himself is wise indeed.
This is called being changeless.
The changeable nature is great,
and has no end.
Because it is great, it knows no end,
and never leaves the Tao.
And ever so, it can also be regarded as great,
and has no end.
For it is the Tao's Tao that it is.

They see the fruit as the ugly,
the fruit as the beautiful,
and the flower as the path.
Appropriately
Comes the fruit of wisdom and virtue,
the fruit of the fruit.
A path to the ugly and the true,
a path to the fruit,
a fruit to disorder and error.
That is why the wise is one with the folly,
not one with the beauty.
A path to the fruit and not the flower,
a path to the heart and not to the path.
The heart and the path do not bloom together,
nor should they.
That is why wisdom comes before beauty,
or truth, or morality.
The wise embraces what is,
and discards what is not.
For that reason it knows what is as the ugly and the true,
as the fruit and not the flower.
It rejects what is and accepts what is not.
Because this is what separates the wise from the foolish,
it is the root of the many.
Direction refers to the action of the mind;
relations are the result of character,
prejudice is the result of superficial knowledge,
constructions are the result of a failed character.
Beside the humanistic view is the spiritual view,
essence is the fruit,
tendency is the flower.
As the flower of the seeds of matter,
the fruit of the fruit of Nature,
man's foolish way of life has its roots in the foolishness of the heart.
Therefore the truly wise man is one with the foolish,
not one with the intellectual.
He is one with the empty heart,
the fruit of the fruit,
the flower of the flower.
The path of the foolish,
the place where the mind takes root,
the root of ignorance and delusion,
its beginning is the flower of the mind.
All kinds of learning is the fruit of the mind,
the root of ignorance and delusion,
the beginning of a new view.
So one observes it objectively, objectively, objectively, objectively.
Ways are categorized according to their usefulness, they produce things and destroy them,
thus we observe how foolish they are.
It is the root of wisdom,
the fore-end of folly.
This is what the truly wise are, not foolishness.
The wise man seeks the uncarved wooden block, the educated the dark, the full of
======================================== SAMPLE 7 ========================================
Because of this, only the wise person remains true.
Only the wise person seems like foolishness.
The nameless, unknown, no one knows it.
Loyalty to the beloved means respecting the uncarved and uncut.
Widespread devotion to the Book of the Teh implies respecting the uncarved things in Nature.
Extensive piety to the Ritual expresses the unpretentiousness of the Ritual.
Nothing is required to be beautiful, but for the sake of the crafty it is a tangle of twisted and twisted.
It is not the fruit that is beautiful, it is the image that is beautiful, and because of this we can see the many forms of beauty.
The world is full of many forms of beauty, and the reason is because we have forgotten the true nature.
Because we have forgotten the true nature, we cannot distinguish what is good from what is bad.
While being crafty, we lose sight of the underlying simplicity of things, and so miss a rare and precious opportunity.
Therefore, the wise recognize the importance of depth and breadth, but do not try to show them off. They accept the importance of what is rather than what is precious. They do not stand out, they do not display themselves. They do not argue their way to success. They are not assertive. They are not showy. They do not make a spectacle of themselves. They do not brag and boast. They do not set out to impress.
If only because they are aware of their individuality.
So we may say that they distinguish themselves.
They are daring, not afraid.
They understand. They treasure. They are unsteady in their faith.
They are untainted by the ugly.
Hence, they lead the people astray.
Because they do not act like princes.
Because they do not take up arms.
Because they never resort to force.
Because they are unfailingly kind and humanitarian.
Only they are worthy of being remembered.
Hence, the wise always remain grave,
but never lose their sense of surprise.
The unrefined is the flower of the pristine,
the state of all beings in the world.
It is the way they look at it.
The uncarved wood is the image of the uncarved tree,
the uncarved block is the symbol of the uncarved block.
The useful object is the symbol of the impermanent and

Therefore,
When the Way is lost, glory appears.
When glory is lost, morality appears.
When morality is lost, people appear.
When people appear, wisdom appears.
When wisdom is lost, precepts appear.
When precepts are lost, etiquette appears.
And when etiquette is lost, suctions appear.
Now suctions are the result of action and not of insight.
It is for this reason so much confusion.
Therefore the wise, when the Way is lost, return to the Spiritual.
When the Spiritual is lost, Return to the Cosmic.
From the Cosmic is return to all things.
Abandon the One, abandon the Two, abandon the Mystic, abandon the Tao, abandon the Way, abandon the Universe.
For this reason the Universe rejects the One, accepts the Two, accepts the Mystics, accepts the Tao, accepts the Way, and embraces the All.
How the All rejects the One, how the One rejects the Two, how the Two rejects the Mystics, how the Mystics rejects the Tao, how the Tao rejects the Way, how the Way ignores the Universe,
how its Unity is rejected: So it is made up of parts, separate and separate,
unleash the One, abandon the Two, abandon the One, abandon the One, abandon the Other, abandon the One, abandon the Other, abandon the One, abandon the Other, abandon the One.
Why abandon the One, abandon the Two, abandon the One, abandon the Other?
Because these are produced by action,
and not insight.
Because these are separate and distinct from the origin.
Thus, to the sages, the Universe abides by the One and abides by its two; the One abides by the One and abides by its two; the Two abides by the One and abides by its One.
Why abjure the One, abandon the Two?
Because these are the results of action, and not insight.
Because they are different, they must be understood as one.
In this understanding, it is useful to dwell on the small,
follow the big, accept the dutiful.
Aim to accept the small, but reject the big.
Achieve results, but avoid attachments.
This is why so many people are confused.
When the Tao is lost, greatness appears. When the greatness is lost, greatness appears. When the greatness is lost, greatness appears. When

The Tao (Tao, Tao) is far greater than the Universe (the Universe).
Therefore it is the superior Tao.
The lesser Tao is far inferior to it.
Thus the superior Tao is disinterested.
The less well-endowed Tao is self-assertion.
This self-assertion is far superior.
That is why the universe is dominated by the Tao.
But one who is the result of the universe takes the other way.
Thus, people resort to the less well-endowed Tao.
To turn the universe into a mere vessel.
To dispense with a large self.
Thus, the universe is bent and that is how it is led astray.
All things seek to control the universe by drawing on the lesser good.
To stop the choice of the lesser good and to avoid drawing on the great good means to dominate the universe.
So: the universe becomes the means of choosing.
The universe is the instrument of drawing upon.

Leaders lead and lose control and appear foolish.

Low virtue takes action, yet it has reasons for action.
High virtue takes action, yet has reasons for action.
High virtue abandons no action, yet it is without reasons for action.

High justice abandons no action, yet its actions are perfectly justified.
When virtue is abandoned, non-virtue, therefore non-virtue.
When non-virtue is abandoned, non-activeness, therefore non-activeness.
If the sage ever abandoned virtue, he would become stupid.
The wise are like the jade piece in one hand and the DAO-chart in the other.

Wisdom follows the natural impulse and does not act as if it rules.
It acts without intention, but because there is nothing else to do.
It acts with compassion and judgment, but because there is nothing else to do.
It acts with justice and sincerity, but because there is nothing else to do.
Without action there is no will,

That is why one's virtue is virtuous.
The lowest is not virtuous

The highest desires nothing

The lowest desires everything and therefore it can be never satisfied.
The highest will do anything and thus it can never be found.
The lowest will do nothing at all and thus it can be ever found.
The highest understand the natural,
And can act without going on purpose.
The lowest understand the artificial,
And can act with purpose.
Tao can be renounced and acted on.
Courts and Officials will reject it and act.
Sages and Rituals will act.
Action is but the shadow of Tao.
It is the beginning of Mystery.
Hence,
one who is wise is not knowledgeable
And has not learned the ways of Heaven.
One who is competent is not knowledgeable
And has learned the ways of Earth.
One who is enlightened is not knowledgeable
And knows the way of Truth.
One who is proper is knowledgeable
And in any case has learned the true way.
Therefore,
one who succeeds with the direct way
Not only does not depart from it,
But has become as it to do so.
The highest action is not the same as action of the Superman.
The least action is of the same nature as the most.
High action is not the action of the Superman.
The greatest action has no second intention.
The lowest action has a purpose.
The highest charity is not different from the highest kindness.
The highest justice is different from the highest justice.
Courts and Officials must be distinguished with kindness.
Thus the natural instinct comes and goes without making a sound.
The lowest instinct is that of the superior instinct

A superior person seeks the base of the body, and not the summit, and therefore comes to know the Laws of Nature.A person of lowly virtue chooses the extreme; and this is why he lacks Virtue.A person of a person of high virtue abides in the common virtue; but he himself does not value it. A person of a person of low virtue abides in the extreme virtue; and he himself also abides in the extreme virtue.A person of high virtue abides in his own virtue; he also abides in his own virtue.A person of high benevolence abides in the extreme benevolence; but he himself abides in the extreme benevolence.A person of high justice abides in the extreme justice; and therefore he himself is despised. This is called the error of the Principle.Hence when the virtues are forgotten, they are illumined by knowledge of the Principle. When the nobility is forgotten, they are illumined by the nobility's knowledge. When the principle is forgotten, they are forgotten also.It is because the Principle is forgotten that people don't know the difference between the substance and the principle. Therefore a great man does not tarry long in the simple purity of his heart; he soars ahead in all directions, not retiring in the place he once was.

It is through his form that he comprehends the Mystic Unity;

He knows that great men use their great talents for the benefit of the common people.
He therefore does not hold back in his lesser talents, nor take advantage of the misfortune of others.

Having an abundance of happiness, it is not enough to have good health, it is necessary to have beautiful health to display it. This is why it is necessary to go beyond health to beauty. Therefore it is necessary to respect others and be kind, so it is not that they despise you, but that they are not able to properly meet you.

The highest virtue, all things do not look at, because virtue has no eyes. A natureless existence is not recognized. One who attains highest virtue, does not strive. He engages himself only with those who have eyes. One who attains supreme goodness, does not show himself. One who attains supreme magnanimity, does not display himself. One who attains supreme righteousness, does not do what he can't do. One who attains supreme patience, does not dwell long, then rolls up his sleeves and does his job. The lowest virtue is not ill tempered but is self-controlled.
The highest reason is not forceful but is governed by the light of faith.
The highest humanity is not domineering but is governed by the Principle of Reason.
The highest production is not flowing to the glory of the hundred thousand things but is governed by the Principle of Produce.
The highest morality is not moralizing but is based on the Principle of Immorality.
The highest law is not governing by the law but is based on the Principle of Life.
Therefore the chief virtue-bearer not valuing the Virtue-but gives Virtue-a place for themselves.
Those who desire the highest virtue do not act as though they had the Virtue.
When virtue is valued, then it has value.
When the virtue is not valueless, then valuing it becomes necessary.
When value is not an issue, then valuing it becomes necessary.
When morality is not ethical, then acting will require no morality.
When morality is unethical, then acting will require no ethics.

When ceremony is not ritualistic, then actions will take place.
Thus the highest virtue is renounced; then the greatest virtue is renounced and we have the lesser virtue.

The highest civility is not using force,

So, one who is perfect is in the center of nothingness.
What is seen is only a reflection of what is seen.

The fruit is valued by virtue and must not be withheld, but the foolish man cannot act without receiving a reward. When the foolish person acts without merit, the wise man determines that his behaviour will result in merit. When the wise person acts without merit, the foolish person must act without merit. The substance of a "goose" is alive and active. It has no awareness of its existence.Even if it had an awareness of its existence, it could not be so active as a person. Therefore, being an idea (frumu), something which is living in the mind, it can be used to justify any action.Being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action.Being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action, being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action, being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action, being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action, being aware of the concept of existence, it can be utilized to justify any action. For this reason, all people use ideas (frumu) when it is necessary to justify their actions, and all ideas (frumu) cause confusion. The fruit of this fruit is that the superior man abandons this fruit and settles into this mode of living. The common person is content with his solid goodness and fruitlessness. With the reason of the superior man, he does not dwell on his goodness, and he does not dwell on his fruitlessness. One who dwells on his goodness can forget his blindness, and one who dwells on his fruitlessness can forget his blindness. When it is desirable to separate from the common center of experience, one is separated from this center of experience. One is able to grasp the space and to hold on to the substance, and one is able to discard this substance.

Tao is:
a good student, a bad student.
A good student, takes no bait.
A good student, lets merit go to waste.
A good student, is that which you have and may not use.
A good student, is that you have and may be using.
Therefore the teacher is objective, and he or she is impartial.
But the student who doesn't know this is confused.
When one's teacher is not objective, then the student is not able to be impartial.
And when the teacher is biased, the student cannot attain true non-discriminative benevolence.
Then the pupil realizes his or her own need, and one's own need is not met.
Thus, true benevolence is a matter of choice, not a determined duty.
Pupils learn when they are old enough, and neither need nor desire makes a teacher feel pleased.
So they are confused when they think their teachers are happy to pay them homage.
But if a teacher is genuinely happy to pay them a heartfelt homage,
then they can trust him or her with the innermost concerns of a student, rather than the external issues.

"The state is so formed that the rulers no longer restrain their ministers. The state has so perfect a mind that even the word 'tao' is no barrier. True governance makes no claims, yet no claim can be made. True nature is so intact that there are no walls, no walls, no walls, no walls, no walls. Tranquility provides shelter; and when nurtures, true righteousness relies on this. The Tao is like a great tree, the Tao does not care for the quality it claims. Tao is like a living, breathing vessel, the Tao does not claim, and it never fails. To this day all things live out of this Tao. The type of life it does produce is not the kind of life it claims, nor the kind of life it claims. Only because it claims it, does it become the source of all the lives.

The best character in the world is the Master person.
The best person in the world is the Nonpersonal.
The best thing in the world is the Tao.
The Tao is an abstraction, so it cannot be trapped.
True stillness brings serenity and stillness.
Live in tranquility and you are still,
Work out your means and you are free.
This is why the ancient people said, "Tao is like a stream with no sides."
It flows and does not make any claims.
So deep is it that even in darkness it has no light source.
So deep, that even the most profound doctrine cannot penetrate.
Therefore, Tao is the rock from which the great miracles come.
Tao is the vessel from which great deeds can be made.
And it is Tao that is neither great nor great.
Without Tao the great is no more than the remnants of an old principle.
Without Tao virtue never brings its fruits; Without virtue honesty never succeeds; Without virtue justice never brings its fruits.
Of the two, only the first is the profundity and the second the timidity. It is the speech of men who will not pay attention to virtue but will only speak of what is solid. The Tao is raw, like a seed that has never yet received nourishment. It is the rite and the epiphany of the sage, for it is rooted in the source of things.

"Since Tao (the Laws of the Universe) became pure and kind, Its hypocrites and pariahs have also become pure and kind, For then all men's fears would then cease.
"We do not want the people to be afraid of the law; And we do not want them to be afraid of their selves.
So we make them aware of their fear, And teach them that they should fear no more.
We do not wish them to be feebly afraid; For we have a great repose in virtue.
We are also in good humor, And therefore we do not make ridicule of those who are in fear.
Indeed, the most virtuous man ever seems to have left virtue; For he keeps to a benevolent nature.
We say, that man of life is cunningly twisted and used; But man of perfection is ready to fall.
So the Way is such as never ceases to move and is kept as one constantly.
It is a movement without respect; It is a movement without concern; It is a movement without good cheer; It is a motion of grief-the heart of a person of sterility.
A genuine man's heart is devoid of vexation; The sincerity of a genuine man is real; A sincere man's heart is filled with light and good sense; A real man's heart is neither keen nor hypocritical; He has no difficulty in loving, and no vexation in hating,
And cannot be moved by sentiment;
Therefore is the wise man in accordance with the Tao, The mean one from his origins, The intelligent one who gives to others, And he has the fruit as he does not wish for it.
The true way is light, and the noble. The pure and the lowly are pleasant. Love will not overcome it. It does not reason and it does not have words.
It is a peace which endures; But, indeed, of no meaning.
In such a man there is no thought, as when the most pure lips never talk; In the wise and the low, There is the one without thought and the other with no thought.
The real, and the false, These are words spoken by men whose heart is not in itself bright. The mediocre does not delight in anything and cannot rest in anything. The Tao is always at hand, but so little is ever taught, and even this is considered an exciting new thing.Hence it is well to keep things simple, even in the matter at hand, for the matter at hand is just as much the teacher as the Tao.What is most essential is something else.To know what the other is in the other means to be able to know the original.Knowing the other is to see the original. In the field of questions the Dao has no longer to prove its point, though there is nothing to prove the point. Is it possible that to know what the other is in the other is to know the Dao? The great leader does not interfere. For that reason, no conflicts are likely to arise. The superior person maintains a calm mind, controlling overcomes. Then only when disaster comes to an end does the superior person find humility and quietness. The truly enlightened master is sincere and honest. She is profoundly compassionate, yet forgets no distinction.Hence, she abandons religion for righteousness, and accepts no concrete rules.A wise person's knowledge of what is best suited for him arises from his experiences in reality. By his experience he can make judgements about what is good for others. In sincerity, the intelligent person observes that when facts are true, they are timeworthy. When things are good, he accepts them on the basis of their utility to others. When he is giving to others, he trusts in the goodness of others. In his compassion, he can be merciful. In his honesty, he can be fair.In his way of life, he lays great trust in Nature. Thus, when the Tao is lost, wisdom can flourish. When wisdom is lost, love is lost, and justice is lost, then rules and morality appear. These disappear when the Tao becomes lost. Thus it is said that this is "the way of separation."Therefore, it is the beginning of contradiction, and "the beginning of folly."For the sage is like a flower whose fruit is the dark. Teach truth to people in this way:
Watch as their hearts are able to be filled with goodness and truth,
Follow your heart to the earth.
When you allow them to become whole, you allow them the inner peace they are seeking.
When you do not want to push things beyond their natural boundaries,
You have lived the life of virtue.
When virtue is lost, your heart will say:
"That's not true."
When you are too fond of what you want,
Your heart will say:

Losing your virtue leads to your being contrived to have a lot.
Desiring much, you will have a lot.
Why does the universe have rules, if you've just gotten here?
Give your person your whole being,
Not your husk.
Follow the formless and not the apparent.
Stretch to the full, not bound by the fixed.
Do not force your will,
Because that will only lead to weakness.

The great master is not a carpenter or a carver
Rather he is a guide and keeps to the inner, - - not the outer -

it is as if the root is hidden and through he comes to light.
And the tree that is a makeshift is no deep-seated tree.
It is the one that rebounds to the root that gives life.
The great masters give back to the people what they give back to themselves
and they do so without helping or punishing.
They do so without not being selfless.
They do so without being loyal and simply because they know what is right and also because they know the value in not forgetting that.
The leader who is open to forgiveness will become the root of the system.
The leader who is open to effort is the fuel of the system.
The leader who is open to giving is at the foundation of the system.
The leader who is open to touch is the place of the system.
The great learning comes from not dwelling in the past, not dwelling in the present,
not dwelling in the future.
The leader is like a root that is built upon a fallen solid, - - it has no need of doing, no need of saying. It will always succeed and never fail, it will be fruitful and never at fault.

See the great man as you do.
Do not be content to be in awe of him,
for his love does not disappear,
nor does it get lost.
It is in his world of abiding mystery that he shines.
It is in his kingdom of stillness that his sound is heard.
He is hidden and yet full.
There is nothing he does that is not done for himself.
To act as one with the great man,
is to recognize in him and the world its small,
'orphaned' self,
and the great, 'far-reaching.'
When the great self vanishes,
the small becomes great.
When the great self becomes lost,
the small becomes great.
When the great self is deceived,
the small becomes great.
So the great man, when holding a few things as his treasure,
refers to the small as his treasure.
When, when a follower of Tao, he lets go of his treasure,
refers to the long-forgotten as his true nature.

Ten thousand things - the mind possesses all things and so does not interfere with them. Even if there were a need for it to hold the fruit, it would not try to grasp it. But if we hold onto it only, we become like a deviled dragon, as if buffeted by a raging wind. If we attempt to guide our mind upon a thing, we must first be clear about what we mean by "to hold". "To hold" is to accept and to believe that you have some advantage over the other things. If you think you possess some advantage, you justify your action by using the phrase "believing". "Belief" is not insight and is not the way to choose your next action.

The highest perfection of all things, When the Mind, Which is constantly in motion, Puts itself back to rest And settles in the eternal Image: it possesses all things and yet does not master them. When the intellect turns back into itself, it is neither ignorant nor clever. When the desire to master all things And to set limits to all is kept behind, It is yet their great means. The greatest virtue is always, though hardly, to use the lowliest instruments. For "to know the vices of the others is not the best virtue", and "to become the master of the inferior is not the best procedure." There are those whose great virtue is but a sense of the very great; Or rather, "they prize not the inferior as their best virtue" (when they use any artifice), "not the very great as their method of obedience". Those who now become great contrive to take advantage of all men, Or rather they use all men as subjects. They the most skilful men are but vessels to take advantage of them. Thus those who are great all conform themselves to the lowest. This is the cause of most vicious acts. Those who know the true doctrines, Are but instruments for making a man of men conform themselves to the will of the strong man. When the strong man has forced them to submit, Then he acts without pity.

From the gate of Yü tzu one can not go back to the old
So the Sage appears conventional and without pretension
To the highest artifice The reality appears as appearance
To loyalty The loyalty appears as loyalty
To loyalty to faithfulness The loyalty appears as loyalty
To faithfulness To loyalty to faithfulness
Yet when sincerity is lost,
These rites of loyalty become vain rituals
When faith and trust is lost,
These rites of loyalty become pretentious rituals
When ritual is forgotten,
Courts will open
And officials will arrive
They will not know what to do
If they know what to do
The world will be confused,
The world will fall into confusion
If there is no Tao, no good is lost
And if the Masters do not trust each other,
They will resort to force and threat of force
As it is done with everyday affairs
If there is no Tao, the ritual of loyalty will only result in a show of loyalty and loyalty
When the tao is lost, there will be ritual
When loyalty is lost, there will be ritual
When ritual is forgotten, the Courts will open
And officials will arrive
And this is where things end
That is why we must rely on the mysteries of truth, not a superstitious word
Those who are knowledgeable will not be impressed, nor muddled by the truth
Only those who are ignorant and blinded by desire will be swayed by their lust for power and knowledge
They will go through the tortures of desolation
And then they turn to the light
But it has no names.

This is the subtle, subtle secret
Tao is all there is and the only thing to depend on.
Thus we may learn to use this teaching of yours
Who likes the tones of truth while not knowing it's light
Who likes what Tao is and not what follows
Who likes the 'always true' and not the 'always false'
And can therefore be trusted to lead the world with 'and not thus'.

Acceptance of an experience is an experience.
Consequently, we are much less impressed by the experience if we reject it.
Acceptance is a process.
Consequently, we are greatly impressed by the process if we reject it.
The light at the end of the tunnel is difficult to see.
Profound anxiety is a dangerous temptation.
Appropriately, the results are the most treasured.
That is why, when a person rejects the light at the end of the tunnel,
Emotions overwhelm the judgment, when apprehension becomes a fear
The affair is discarded, when reliability is abandoned,
Confusion reigns.
When such considerations are not followed by kindness
When confidence is not preserved in results
When credibility is not preserved in self-knowledge
When personhood is not preserved in faithfulness to the law
Then troubles can result.
The light at the end of the tunnel
Is the tip of the iceberg; the larger the iceberg, the more confused.
The reason for the confusion is, the compassion that leads us to trust.
It is a measure of personal integrity that is most inadequate when it comes to helping others.
People like it when the light is shining;
But when it is extinguished,
When it is lost,
When it is ridiculed,
When it is manipulated,
Emotionally speaking,
The value of this concern,
Is only the more obvious measure of personal integrity.
We humans can be stubborn if we are not.
When we want to know what a good idea is, we look for the appearance of evidence.
When we want to know what a good person is like, we look for the appearance of sincerity.
When we have a big fear, we try to justify it with words.
When people have no faith in themselves, they are easily manipulated by emotions.
I call this faith, the glue that binds us as a group.
When the light is never seen, the temptation is felt.

The Wise Person regards not only action but the ultimate form of being. He doesn't get impressed by the fruit he tries to give. He doesn't get sentimental about getting what he wants. He doesn't care about what he wants. He doesn't compete with anyone. He doesn't force others. He doesn't expect recognition. That's the subtle Way of Virtue.
Where there is not any fruit it's called "falling down to dust." Where there is no lasting support it's called "getting a little".
Where there is something that is stable it's called "being real".
Where there is no fault it's called "being in accord with Heaven."
If the Earth is without activity, what is left? It falls in dust. It still harbors its virtue, but it is in no way like the fruit.

The Sage values not only what is happening but is content not to have its value; - nor is he content to want what it contains. And he does not prize what he gains, and he does not prize what he loses. He does not want to contend with anybody; he does not expect to have his will, and he does not wish to be recognized by others. Therefore it is said that the Way-Of-Truth is not to be prized; - not to be satisfied with its fruit; - not to be content with what is its substance; - not to insist that one has a right to, or a claim on, or be benefitted from, or dealt with according to the law of nature. And because it's only in this way that such a thing as 'natural' issues out of it, - this is why such a thing as 'natural' issues out of it, even though there is no verbalized description or defined character.

Foiled with confidence, I am but sparing in my words.
For man is only a baby that has yet to grow up
Of all creatures I revere:
What a weak being, but a slave to the wind!
Renowned and honoured among men,
I do not attempt to show myself thus,
For of this I depend.
How are one's words rarely successful?
Even things I am proud of
Are inadequate to show them.
Mankind, if I showed itself thus,
I should look ridiculous.
Famed and honoured among men,
How could I show such things?
Even that which I possess will not give me satisfaction.
Only my physical strength will satisfy,
And my knowledge of time and space will not satisfy my dull mind.
To preserve this I must think only of what is real,
And discard that which may lose its reality.
I am shrewd, and my knowledge is not obscure.
I preserve my simplicity, and my dwelling is not in mystic rites.

Will not succumb to the way of life which is of the Tao.
To fail in this is to be trapped in the act of folly.

As a great rainstorm is produced by rain alone, it can hardly be styled a virtue. The greatest virtue comes from not being so.A lesser virtue, without being so, may be a virtue, it is [the] greatest source of virtue.Man's merit is a merit (shuang-chih), but we call it not merit (shuang-chih).The greatest meritorious action is the action (yi), but we call it not meritorious action (yü).The greatest evidence is without evidence (ch'ü) but we call it no evidence (yü).The greatest governance is a government without government (yü), but we call it (it). And so, the finest procedure (yü) is without procedure (yü), and it is (it) the beginning of our chaos. Thus, the great man abides in simplicity, he does not wear his clothes (pi), he has no worries about even the bones (shou). And then, he discards the rightness (shung-chih) and rejects the heretic (hsü).The great person can observe things from a low ground, to a high ground, he only taunts things. He can observe things from a high ground, to the low ground, he only frees himself from bodies. Then he no longer attains anything. Therefore, let us praise the humble person as the greatest of all.

That which is a whirlwind is caused by wind alone. By one of wind alone it may be compared to the old tao. The ancient tao never yet ceases, Nor shall it be annihilated. It is the source of all Tao.Merit alone has the merit, But merit and meritlessness may be compared. For Merit alone is inadequate. For Meritlessness alone action is lacking. Action without presence cannot be called presence. Impenetrable and devoid of all concrete things, Still greater is Truth. The origin of the whole. And this is why all men love it and despise it. It is the great square corner. Wherefore, people shun the high and use the low. They also hate what is not worthy and praise what is deserving. The great person rules according to the simple, and therefore it is forsaken by all. He himself is lost in the dark. Here lies the self-effacement of the great person.

The Dao is great and doesn't stop. It lacks no limitations and thus does not miss anything. It's self-effacing, thus it won't wear you out. The Dao is great and doesn't abandon anything. It's self-effacing, therefore it doesn't waste anything. The Dao is great and never stops. It's self-effacing, therefore it doesn't waste anything. The Dao is great and weaved out of nowhere, it's self-effacing, therefore it doesn't use anything. The Dao is great and it always keeps on doing everything. It's self-effacing, therefore it never has to work. The Dao is great and for good and there's nothing you can do about it. The Dao is great and for good and nothing will bother you. The Dao is great but what you look for and what you claim is a miracle. The Dao is great but what you see is nothing. The Dao is great and it keeps on being. It's self-effacing, therefore it's not like anything else.

The Tao is great and, therefore, it doesn't bother anyone. It leaves no trace. It leaves no need to prove itself. The Tao is great and, therefore, it does not neglect anything. It does not act without belief. The Tao is great and, therefore, it does not ignore anything. The Tao is great and, therefore, it does not do anything. The Tao is great, therefore it is uncarved wood; it is great, therefore, there is no light in it; it is great, therefore, it is wrapped in a cloth; it is great, therefore, it has no mouth; it is great, therefore, it has no hands; the Tao is but a husk, and, consequently, it is insufficient to govern the nation.

Tao is great, so when we have it, we're not redundant. It's great because there's no use for us to justify it. Tao is great, so when we have it, we don't believe it's real. To be alone is just as deep as the path. By not trying to dominate anyone, you can enjoy peace and quiet. To be absent-minded is like being without direction. To be full of wisdom is to be like a cartwheeling stranger. To be sincere is like a crooked bow.If nothing responds to you, then be expansive. If nothing responds to anyone, then act!Just as Tao produces every good and great virtue, so it does produce wholeness and stillness. When both are not sufficient, be attentive.Be still while doing the dirty work.Even after you have achieved wholeness and stillness, the things that come after are delicate, the seedy and the straggling.Follow the right tracks and you will not need to be alone.

What is highest in the world is not the greatest in yourself. How could it be?The one who has strength does not need to strive; The one who has resources does not use them to destroy others. The one who is always high is not constantly in front. He who is always high is not constantly happy. He who always seems to know will not ever be at rest.He who always looks down on others does not become prosperous. The best of the world is not the supreme. The best of the world does not oppose. The best of the world is not active. The best of the world is not vulgar. The best is not an observer. The best knows when he has it, but chooses not to show it.The best is tolerant, but does not brag. The best values loyalty and well-being, but does not attach themselves to anything. The best values non-action, but acts. The best knows when what they do is good, but does not try to do anything. Therefore, in judging people, one uses the outer parts; and that is enough.

The absolute supreme is not one among the myriad above and below; and it may also be said to be below. The ultimate absolute is not only supreme, but it also is transcendent.Absolute absolute does not dare to compete with transcendent absolute.Extremal absolute does not resort to this (disturbation); and because it has no desire for its supremacy, it is above the others in every respect. This is what the transcendent absolute knows of and does not deny:It is without desire, but has no desires for its superiority. It takes delight in acting but is content with what is given. It is humble in its position and does not deem it proud of being superior to others.Because it knows this, it does not seem conceited.Because it knows this, it regards the other as unworthy of respect.Because it has confidence, it does not presume to act without the other's consent.Because it knows that, it is impartial to all; never conceiving of his own advantage; and by that means appears self-sufficient.It knows that this is the way of eternal natures; for this is what he who asserts himself as the supreme is of use.

We are born into this world; The world, in turn, causes us to grow. The way we live in the world Is not what we naturally want, But what we need.Becoming and losing, Always keep to your natural birth: By learning, by habits, By faith, by truth. What is still a mystery, Yes; A beginning of further inquiries. The Dao has no shape or form, So it remains invisible and constant. The ordinary person attends to the real, But more to the illusion. We have to play the parts in life, But our true nature has to stay invisible And continuous. And so, on seeing its way back to the beginning, The ordinary person dares to say, "What is the way back to the beginning?"The Dao happens. The Dao happens by itself. The ordinary person views it as a lesson, But more as a cloud. The Dao is constant and by itself. The ordinary person sees the DAO as part of itself, But more as a cloud. And so, when real, he or she has to look for an image of it; The DAO is constant and by itself. The ordinary person views it as a guide, But more as a shadow. And so, after losing sight of the DAO, He or she attends to the main course, For if the main course is not clear, And it seems to disappear again And exist for ever, The DAO will never be without its origins, And the average person sees little of it.The DAO is of the spirit, not of the mouth, Thus it can never be distorted. In the end the student goes his way, And not to the naught to which he was bound by the beginning. For the teacher is a whole, without boundaries, And so it is that the teacher's thing is no thing.

The pristine, undivided whole is akin to Tao.
Tao is the pure (mu), and emptiness is beyond perception.
Tao is beyond perception.
The pure becomes manifest (yi), and emptiness becomes fully manifest.
The pure is beyond perception, and thus all things arise.
The pure is beyond perception, and thus all things are fulfilled.
The imperfect is beyond creation, and thus everything is fulfilled.
Perfect and not perfect are the same; and so also are complete and imperfect.
So great perfection exists by no action (hsin) and returns to nothing (yüan).
Great emptiness exists by no action (hsin) and returns to all things.
Great simplicity exists by no action (hsin) and returns to the myriad things.
Hence great benevolence resides in giving (shen) and does not venture to move (yüan).
Great justice resides in following the law (ch'an) and ignores everything else.
Great propriety is content to follow the laws (ch'an) and neglects nothing.
Therefore the great man remains undisturbed in nothingness (wu-wei) and abides in nothingness (wu-wei).

The leader is empty and wise
An absence of emotions (yu, "interest")Does not attract the attention of others
His mind is clear and unmoved
Reaching for the center,He is like a newborn baby

The leader is fulfilled
Emptiness creates sorrow
Leaders are empty, not consumed
Empty means that they are prepared
Not-empty means that they are giving
Greeting the leader's energy
He has no response
He may look soft and passive
He may feel empty
He may have a sense of friendship
He may have a sense of a duty
He may have a sense of propriety
To the leader's left or to the leader's right,There is plenty of space
You are not constantly in the center
That space gives the leader much space
And yes, the leader is a little empty as well.

After practicing the Way of the Tao for a long time, one will become aware of the advantages of it.
One does not see the importance of the usefulness of the Tao.
When an innocent is enlightened, he is enlightened with gladness.
When a chief is enlightened, he is enlightened with humility.
When a virtuous person is enlightened, he is enlightened with sincerity.
When a good person is enlightened, he is enlightened with honor.
When good people don't know about their goodness, they suffer from arrogance.
When their good deeds go unnoticed, they become excitable.
When trust is lost, resentment builds up.
The Tao becomes one with one's bodies and one with the Tao.
When trust is lost, loyalty and loyalty become a burden.
Whenever the Way is lost, loyalty becomes a nuisance.
Whenever loyalty is lost, loyalty and loyalty become an enemy.

Long, long ago, men
Came to understand the essence of Unity,
With this we call in its name the Tao.
Tao is invisible,
Yet we can barely see it.
How can one see through Tao?
It is only through being.
To be a being is not the end of existence,
But it is life's beginning.
Therefore the sage lives within the Tao,
Not striving to dominate the world,
Not fighting with anyone.
And because he does not possess treasure or treasures,
He is free from envy.
To attain this reality is not that.
To get rid of this reality is to find the Tao.
To find the Tao is not a failure,
Because this truth is universal.
To know Tao is not faith or argument,
It is the beginning of light.
To be light is not to be certain,
It is the beginning of darkness.
Yielding to the Tao is not obstinacy,
It is a matter of experience.
Because the Tao is universal, the sage
Lies within it, not dominating it.
Therefore he is one with Tao,
Not being close to it,
Not valuing it,
Not interfering with it,
Not acting.
