TAO'S DELLUATE USE: Wherever you like.
"What does it mean, 'Not to run'? It means not running to bring disaster upon myself or others." (It means: the very meaning is gone).
"What does it mean, 'Not to talk'? It means not talking to anyone." (It means: it is very difficult to make oneself understood).
"What does it mean, 'Not to do anything but leave nothing undone?'
Without being able to make things happen, there is danger. The time of practicing virtue is to be sparing in affairs, while being very sparing in taking care of them. This is to be true virtue."
<|endoftext|>
What it means, 'Not running to bring misfortune upon oneself'?That is to say, 'To avoid taking all under heaven in any disaster';That is to say, 'There is nothing that can bring disaster upon me or upon others.'
That is why the great masters do not try to prevent calamities.

I hold to Tao only to motivate people for their needs and to motivate good deeds.Tao never sees as belonging to non-being, thus doesn't discriminate between things that are (different from being) non-being. Thus Tao's word does not disdain distinctions, thus doesn't play semantic tricks.By no means does it wish to disparage, it can't make a living.It comes to the best of its ability to help those who are needy.In this way Tao's word is efficacious.

When one goodly moves toward virtue, and stands in the way of evil, one is following goodly
Action without foresight, action for the conquest of one's foes.
That which is sought by kingly power and precedence, it has no support.
That which is always in need, it has no satisfaction.
The sages see this clearly, and overcome their own weakness.
Knowing this, they choose (not) to injure.
Knowing this, they gain comfort.
And they attain the heights of spiritual enlightenment.
That is called: The origin of the Principle, and the center of the universe.
<|endoftext|>
When one better attunes himself to Virtue, and declines evil, and stands in the way of stillness, one is following Virtue.
The surestay of good virtue's deeds, leaves no track.
The surestay of the constant good virtue's enterprises, is ready to depend, and expects no comfort.
That is why the sage knows best to avoid these, but the sage knows best to have no fear.
Because the sage knows to know the wisdom of the world, this is called the Occult formation.
<|endoftext|>
When a good man keeps himself with virtuous resolve he does not overcome evil-doers and prevents their getting rid of his resolve.He does not care that the virtuous resolve be bound and has no need for any personal compulsion.He uses himself properly and is fit to govern himself in time of peace and prosperity.In affairs in which he is charged, he does not act blindly and always acts with all the sincerity.He accomplishes his task and will not be disgraced.When he sees what is right he will not compete with another man and he will keep quiet and be himself without spilling his blood.He lets the other men's views of themselves and their personal lives go.And so he is safe from rivalry with any other man.It is he who knows that being one with others is good for him and that he must be one with each other.

In attaining better understanding of virtue (TAO), he is careful not to lose the impartiality of natural intelligence (ming).
To know him is not enough to ensure that he stays unripe and that he does not fall down.

Vaguely existent, lack a body;
Manifest a body, manifest a void;
Nurture a void, unfathomable;
Produce an uncarved block, unshakeable.
Sell uncarved block, unshakeable;
Secure uncarved block, uncarved.
Produce an uncarved block, uncarved.
With an uncarved block, uncarved.
It is best not to understand the former,
But to allow the latter.
Therefore:
The ingenious scholar in word
Regarded as impalpable;
The profoundly educated man in word
Regarded as sacred;
The pliant one regarded as polite;
The adept one regarded as simple.
And even less manly
For in him no one holds in unyielding faith.
This is a lesson of the Tao,
And it is only natural that the sage teaches it.

The nameless is the farthest part of what a person is; The possessed is the most prominent part; The possessed is the whole; The whole is unshaped. Unshaped, you are lost. Nameless, you have no home. Possessed, you are always alive. Ever seeing, you are always hearing. Ever hearing, you are always seeing. Always seeing, you are always hearing. Always hearing, you are always sensing.
When you sense danger, you keep the body in balance. When you keep the body in balance, There is no danger. When the body is in balance, The Tao is constantly in motion. When the Tao is constant in motion, There is nothing more important than the soft and gentle.
<|endoftext|>
There is but one form for an object, yet there is a source of existence.
The physical must be seen as an abysmal parody of beauty,
the material must be seen as the image of the fine,
the Tao must be found as a cloudy substance in which lies the soul.
We find that this consciousness is not separate from the physical body,
and yet the spiritual life remains.
Thus the individual is made up of an uncarved block of wood,
one unharnessed cord, one untried spirit.
We perceive it as a block of bamboo,
a hollow, unfinished vessel.

"He must be fed, but don't drink it"
"He must be contented, but don't get angry"
"He must be controlled, but don't act like a child"
"He must remain wise, but don't try to be clever"
"He must remain calm, but don't be nervous"
"He must maintain unity, but allow others to be separate"
"He must be direct, but don't act like the wind"
"He must be calm, but have the power to blow"
"He must be steady, but not be timorous"
"He must be constant, but not follow the whims of the wind"

A good leader is one who does not rebel
He leaves people unruly
She forgets to be clean
He turns bad people around
He doesn't waste energy
He lets it be
A wise leader is different
And the reason for it is
This is called the art of preserving virtue
They are like the children of Heaven
If you don't love the teacher
Then it will come back
So use the teacher and value the teacher
You don't force it and it will never fail you
It is like breathing in the spirit
Rest in the earth
Mine your breath without ever leaving your hand
Enjoy the peace of the quietness
Return the burden of your responsibilities
Get the blessings of the Earth
Find peace within yourself
Receive your breath from the earth
Don't lose sight of how truly you belong here
A good leader is a humble leader
He who is humble acts in ignorance
He who does not act in ignorance receives a lasting effect
He who goes on action for example will not succeed
But only knows he needs to
As the Master says:
"He who does not act arrogantly
Cannot feel sorry for himself.
"He who is not taking a second from the teacher
Can never become a bad man."
Therefore, he who follows his own nature can never be ruled by the instinct of others
Therefore, he can always be relied on

A good scholar is good at dissembling what is in the mind, so the mind is not confused.A good liar is good at lying, so the mind is not confused.A good ruler is good at governing. How can a good ruler think that he can control the masses? What is going wrong with ruling the masses by means of the smart person?A good leader will not try to force people to do anything, And will work for the masses without fail. A good leader doesn't defy the masses, Does not defy them, And will win.The loyal person does not have an ulterior motive. A loyal person can be trusted and respected by all.How is it that loyalty and respect are produced by the spiritual process?

The highest type of speaker is in tune with the inner world.
The inner world is not the ordinary mind.
The ordinary mind has no awareness of his inner self.
The Inner world sees all the light that is inside.
The Inner world sees all the darkness that is outside.
All these light and dark meet in harmony.
The Inner world is in tune with all that is hidden within its own doors.
The Inner world cannot communicate this inner harmony.

He who is devoted to the people of the world is not an example for others.

From my daily practice of the Dao.

By nature men alone desire possessions. For they cannot enjoy them. Who then should love them? In order to be a good rule for all men, there are not such things as governing them; nor are there such things as (giving orders). To renounce them would be the decision that is wrong. To love men when there are defects is the best way. To think that there is something special about men is to be as clever as they are; to be fit for such things as perfection is the most natural way of things. It is natural that only he who follows Tao will succeed in doing so.
<|endoftext|>
The wise man leads by following, the weak ones lead by following.
For the strong ones follow the weak ones.
The weak ones follow the strong ones.
The strong ones follow the weak ones.
The weak ones follow the strong ones.
Therefore the Wise Man favors the strong, the super-fathers.
When one stops he is glad to know the base.
When the base chooses him he is glad to know his way.
The wise man leads by following;
The weak ones lead by following the strong ones;
The weak ones lead by following the strong ones;
The strong ones lead by following the weak ones.
In following, when the base has rejected him, he is glad to know the next step.
When the next step has been rejected, he is glad to know his advantage.
That's why the Wise Man follows the Laws of the Tao, and not just the rules of the people.

These are the four subtleties of the Head:
We can see how its smoothness will look;
we can see how its crookedness will look.
We can see how the reason behind the sharpness, truthfulness,
Grievance and ardent affection,
These are the four subtlets of the Head.
The smooth head has no crust.
The crooked head has no corner.
Both have the same height.
One has no weakness.
Yet neither is weak, like a single child,
nor frail, like an elder.
Neither is the other weak, like a single female.
Indeed, the largest are the weakest.
The greatest are the smallest.
We must always love in order to care for.
When loving and caring for, we find it easy to value.
The reason why the smooth head is unsteady on the ground is precisely because we are without a mind to fill it with names.
The reason behind the sharpness is simply because we have no mind to fill it with names.
Therefore, the smooth head is unsteady on the ground.
The crooked head is steady on the sky.
This is called following what is on the level.
What is on the level is called learning.
That is why the scholars are always able to know how to pay attention.
They know how to honour their teachers and work with their responsibilities.
That is why the masters are always able to know how to trust people.
They know how to praise themselves and value their natural talent.
This is why the Tao is always able to help the senses.
Because when the senses are not valued, the Tao never lets its inner truth get lost.

The best of leaders are not leaders. The next best are not better, the next best are not better, and so on. Those who aren't good leaders never stay good at leadership. Those who aren't good at leadership don't even get to know what leadership is like.
For this reason, the best leader never boasts, doesn't leave anyone out, and doesn't fuss about who gets credit and who gets credit for having gotten away with it.
Tao is not a doctrine. It is nothing to be feared.

Those who lead a good life follow the example of the best. Those who lead a bad life follow the example of the mean.Those who follow the bad path do so with disdain.Those who follow the good path do so out of obligation. Those who follow the bad path are always punished by the good. Those who follow the good path are in love with everything.Hence, the kindhearted man regards everybody as equal, and so everybody deserves to be loved.Hence, the man of Tao is a master of love, which never lets a man fail.Hence, the kindhearted man never fails to lead a good life.Hence, he is exemplary of the kindness of Tao.

A man of Tao never forgets his lesson
A man of Tao who loses touch
Could have lived a good life.
A man of Tao who tries to hold on

A man of Tao who tries to be clever
Must be on a low ebb.
A man of Tao who tries to get everyone to do
What he doesn't want

A good word has no beginning

Therefore, the truly good leader will

An honest word can never be false
And an innocent word can never justify
A good word is the way things are
And a bad word is the only reason for forgiveness
Only a good word is found
And only a bad word is ever something to fear
And a good word is the key to all relationships
And a bad word will be punished.
Therefore, the truly good man

When truth is seen only through its manifestations,
Knowledge is called 'Shadow.'
Shadow is what weakens those who keep their body.
Knowledge is called 'True.'
True is the darkness from which light comes forth.
To know the light of Truth, yet be blind to its manifestations;
This is called having an obscure mind.
Hence it is that a person can keep [his] light and have darkness.
So it is that a person can preserve his light,
And maintain his darkness.
So it is that a person can keep his light,
And create darkness.
The highest way is the work of love.
Therefore, when it is given to the person who wishes for loyalty, loyalty is his reward.
He is one of those who are good at saving people;
And yet he never abandons anyone, no matter what his background.

When we consider the truth as seen through appearance we will call it Shadow, or Shadow from the Inner Light.When we consider Truth as seen through appearance we will call it Shadow.The Shadow is what brings about the darkness.This darkness brings about Truth.But Truth cannot be fixed by the external light.Therefore we have to deal with it in our own Way.This Way is our Inner Light, which is:To see things as they appear to us, It is called "light" is "darkness" and "confusion"
To know that they are there, yet remain "invariant" is "mind" If we accept that we are at our best, And observe that we are at our worst, It is called "fear"
<|endoftext|>
He who has knowledge has as much virtue as he has wisdom, And he who knows the light of knowledge as much virtue as he has wisdom has as much wisdom as he has wisdom. For wisdom and wisdom are no one; To know the light of it is to have virtue as light. That virtue is not in conformity with the light; And to understand that is to have fear. So when we go to seek knowledge for the sake of receiving it, We find that we have knowledge, not more. It is for this reason that when the thought gives us the intention of knowing, We prefer to accept the ground of knowing.

Good words do not carry with them true connotations; not having knowledge they will not be learned.Therefore, the Sage does not use force to impress others, and he does not use ridicule to ridicule others.Therefore, the Sage:
Does not use words to enforce his views;
Makes no distinctions between people;
Aspects what others have not done,
And yet they have achieved nothing,
Does not use the word "looked up to";
Has no preconceptions of what others may be like.
He is thus impartial, he does not take sides, he contends with none, and that is all.
Thus, he is called the Great Light to all men.
The ordinary man is the Great Road, and the Sage is the Great Light.
The Sage is in this relation to the ordinary man, and it is he who is genuine.
The real person is actually the mediocre person.
The mediocre person is actually the great person.
He is on the point of losing sight of his true nature and so he struggles with it.
He does not master the spirit of Infinity and so he abides in Tao.
One who has attained the Great Light is the greatest light to all beings.
The ordinary man is the common man, the Sage is the common ground.

What I am really about, I appear to be another man's son. Yes, I am even inferior to other men, as he, at a much earlier age, could have been their child. My loyalty to him has no relation to my loyalty to any other man. I do not have faith in myself. When I had lost faith in myself, I had faith in him who could lose faith in himself. This is why it is said, "The true Way can never be accepted as the true way." Therefore the Sage rules the people like he rules Nature.

Knowing the right to be guided is knowledge of life. Understanding Truth is knowing truth. Being morally right is knowing duty. Becoming a calculator is knowing logic. Knowing power is knowing may. Being shaven is knowing 'no'. The most beautiful is the supreme image. The meanest is the highest form. The greatest is the origin of the meanest. If you value the less appreciated and reject the more appreciated, then you will be clear in heart. The way of the Tao is such a clarity that it pervades everything.

Man may be able to enter the Tao by his own free will, though sometimes this will not work, and sometimes this will.In other words, he is sometimes able to enter the Tao, and sometimes he will not enter it.The names he uses to describe the ways he walks are not the true names, and therefore may not be named.Tao is never neutral: it returns in return. But how wise men seem to be when they are not disquieted, by what they see:The way is and always has been so.

Possibly makes us look like losers.
High Virtue looks like non-being,
Takes no action, Doesn't dare take action.
Polarities don't interfere,
Unconditional love doesn't show.
Simple being and limitation,
Unbinding of action,
Free of following action.
Luminous clarity,

Free of deeds,
Free of stillness.
So it happens

A truly virtuous person

The highest virtue is to be with Tao. The highest beauty is to be in Tao, and the lowest virtue is to be without Tao, not to be conscious of it, and so distinguish itself.
Since, the gods don't regard such beauty as beautiful, or praise it so highly, such a one should be esteemed.
The people who are good at being virtuous should look for a role for themselves. If they do not, they are not their own good.

The ultimate good is the non-abiding good. Good behavior cannot be blamed; good words cannot be profane; good calculation cannot be correct. A good lock cannot be opened without bolt-work. The very fabric of a good house is not seen.
Therefore, the sages never disown a good person, only the person who has not disowned the good person. Therefore, those who have much faith, will be held in great esteem. Those who are foolish in their faith, will not receive much esteem. This is called following the light (ming). Those who do not value themselves will fall behind. It is indeed impossible to make something new without breaking it.
Therefore, it is neither good nor bad, that is to say, neither good nor non-good; there is no contradiction, and only one who is learned, and yet does not forget his teacher. The wise do not have much faith in their teachers, that is to say, they do not believe in the master's teacher. Yet where there is doubt, there is good.
No-one knows when to stop.
And to take credit for successes and failures is to refuse fulfillment.
This is to be confused.
To be unclear is to be confused;
and as a result, the knowledge of the state is lost.
Therefore, he who desires the bright point of knowledge has no end to him.

But he who wants the state to be just as bright as it is at saving plants would not last long;

And he is skill at saving things. And, therefore, no one is lost.
This is called "rightness of 'ming' -- to know when to leave and to know when to return to a simple truth."
Therefore, one who desires insight on his place in the world, is not but lost in the world. He who is good at saving people, but only in the process of saving the world, is not but good at saving. And, he is, indeed, good at saving.
This is the oneness of the good man. And it is because he does not desire to have what he does not have, that he finds the place in the world.

This is how one can comprehend the depth of Tao.
It's how we are so adept at comprehending and improving upon the Tao.

A good runner does not cut out the tracks and stops in time. A good speech has no pauses and completes when it is given. A good reckoner moves from goal to goal and has no desire to let things go. A good blindfold needs no rope and yet it cannot be untied. Therefore the Sage takes care of people and gets them to do well; thus is he the one to help people and return favor. For, though the sage is good at saving people, that does not mean he does not benefit them. For, in order to help men, he does not refuse them.
<|endoftext|>
A good runner leaves no tracks. A good speech makes no pauses. A good reckoner gets no direction. A good blindfold needs no rope. A good knot needs no cord. Therefore the Sage is good at enabling people to do well. He will therefore not reject the unworthy. For he is the good one's teacher. And the bad people do not have much goodness. Because these are not effective ways, they have no kindness. Therefore, having no kindness, They are late to develop a virtue. The master learns by holding to what is most precious.
<|endoftext|>
Not only is a good runner not worried about what the track leaves behind, but he stops to learn the path to the finish line. Not only does a good speaker have no stops in his speech, but he completes his words with the spontaneity of acting.
A good reckoner has no ulterior motive to act. A good blindfold has no fixed abutment to the track. He keeps it untied and unties it and stops. For such a one is proficient at enabling people to accomplish their work. He is therefore good at helping people succeed. For that reason he has no wish to refuse any of them. But because he is proficient at enabling people to accomplish their work, He has no wish to deny any of them. For that reason, he is unskilled in being a teacher of people, or in being a guide for others.
The wise person nurtures the people, therefore the people do not waste themselves. They are good at saving people and thereby they are good at saving nothing. Therefore, the sage is good at enabling people to achieve their goals, and has

The difficult is the easy. The difficult is the mild.
The easy is a barter of wisdom.
Thus the subtle powers of the universe reside in the subtle.
Do not take advantage of it.
Achieve your destiny by following the soft dark.
|<|End of Entropic Essay|>|>
The proper timing is easy.
The perfect timing is flawless.
The very best timing has none.
When wise people intervene, things seem clumsy.
When people understand their place, they are easy to manipulate.
When clever people have an advantage, they are somehow untouchable.
When a cunning person knows his stuff, then it remains open.
When a clever person knows the truth, then it stays hidden.
If the universe were to depend on a few smart people, the people would need wise ones,
but once knowledge is widely spread, nothing is left untrusted.
Things cannot be manipulated by clever people.
The people must follow the intelligent ones.
The intelligent people must accept the intelligence, just like the wise ones accept their role.
Just remember: The hard truth is the easy way.
The possible, impossible.
The so-called hidden, the unseen, the unexpected.
Thus, the Tao is always beneath one's nose.
It is the soft end of the universe.
It is the easy way to change.
It is the secret to your success.
The intelligent few go astray; the foolish few learn from them.
Do not try to be what others think you are, for that will only make you look foolish.
The best teacher should be the teacher of the hard-working.
The most learned person must be the teacher of the foolish.
Never pay attention to what others think, for that only lets you go astray.
The Tao is a subtle being that does not depend on us for life, so don't let anyone control you.
Learn to see the dark, to appreciate beauty and wisdom, to be open, to be receptive, to accept whatever comes your way.
Come home, but do so with wisdom.

Those who are clever are easy to keep informed.
Those who are competent do their job well.
Those who are alert give effective direction.
Those who are experienced lead without direction.
As for the better way,
We've all learned it.
We learn to move with confidence, have no fear.
We take in everything as it comes into our minds, without resistance or alarm.
We let go of fear in order to not use it.
To accept wisdom means not judging others.
If we try to become wise, we must give up art.
If we try to practice wisdom,
we must give up being ourselves.
This is called dao with opposing forces.
We never know where the right path is.
No matter how good our strategies,
they can't protect us from what is real.

He who is virtueless, and careful not to be so, is a man for the most part always kept in good order. He who is masters of himself, and keeping himself in order, is a man for the most part always kept in good order. He who is expert and skillful, and cleverer than he is, is a man for the most part always kept in good order. The man who is high and high, and would hold himself down, is a man for the most part always kept in good order. So great is the importance of this subtle insight.
Words and arithmetic go by empty talk.
Yet nothing is not in the way.
That's how wise people can understand and assist the unwise.
Understanding and assisting the unwise is not recommended.
Lack of faithfulness to the unwise makes people even more foolish.
This is a very important point.
Lingering on words will not lead.
Act with inaction will not lead.
Not paying attention and not concentrating on what's at hand is going to bring about all sorts of problems.
Do your job and you are done.
That's the way.
Way.

In a discussion of a path, everything can be clarified.
Existing knowledge leaves no tracks.
Pure speech renders no flaw.
Compound proof leaves no vacancies.
The silent door prevents evading.
The tapestry impenetrable.
The hidden door reveals nothing.
Therefore the Sage guides the Path and does not force.
He guards the Path and does not obstruct.
He fills the Path with nothing and does not seize advantage.
This is a path of calm, simplicity and inner peace.
Simple seems to obscure complexity.
Contemplation makes everything simple.
Though every activity seems awkward and awkward, it somehow works itself out.
What doesn't move gets no notice and therefore nothing is left behind.
This is an insight that is rarefied and precious.
Thus wisdom flows and not.
Thus peace comes and nothing fails.
As a key opens a door, it doesn't close the door.
Door and bolt do not bolt.
Thus silence and movement bring harmony and harmony makes a sound.
Knowledge makes no deviation.
Influence makes no error.
That's how an unforced mind works.
So complete clarity and certainty flow into nothing.
Alert and quiet and mystery.
How beautiful indeed!
And this is called the deep wisdom.
The wise act without working for no gain.
Leave no trace, their inward strength is ultimate.
They don't claim wisdom for themselves; they give to others.
They never give; not claiming for themselves, they give for others.
This is true flexibility.
We do whatever we want.
For ever.
We cannot go by what we know.
Knowing is not knowledge.
When you know too much, you lose touch with what's real.
That's why

To be a Grandparent is to be a Fool.
To claim that you do not care for a child is to be an idiot.
Just because something goes right, it can happen all the same.
I advise those who are good at teaching not to glorify their teachers, nor to look up to their children.
If they do this, all will not be lost.
The universe is an amazing, complex system, yet without fail nothing goes wrong.
Therefore it makes no laws.

The more one benefits oneself the more there is for the earth to benefit. The more one makes others of themselves the less there is for themselves. The more one acts as a superior being the less there is for other people. The more one does to benefit the earth, the less there is for the earth to benefit. The more one acts as a superior being, the less there is for the earth to benefit. The more one acts to benefit oneself, the less there is for self to benefit. The more one acts as a superior being, the less there is for self to be. The more one acts as a superior being, the less there is for self to be. Therefore, the Great Person benefits everybody. The Lesser Person benefits everybody. The Great Person teaches the Lesser Person. The Lesser Person teaches the Great Person. It is called an illusion. We are just starting to understand it. Truly, if we care for everyone's welfare, we will always be fit to help others. If we care for others' welfare, we will never fail to benefit. If we would benefit everybody, the world will be perfect. People of the Tao: each has its own nature. It is that where there is harmony, peace and good luck abound. Truly, one with insight can never lose that insight.
This is an important secret.
The reason why
the Dao is so
effective is that no one makes a mistake.
Therefore, It doesn't make things go wrong, although it may feel like they do.
The Dao doesn't make something go wrong, because it does everything, so that if you stop to think about it, You see that it's doing everything.
Therefore, it is able to work all things (good, bad, and indifferent) out of the way.
It is able to work everything (good, bad, and indifferent) out of the way.
This is because It works, and it doesn't get in the way.
It doesn't get in the way.
This is why it has the power to achieve all things, in spite of everything.
This is the mystery of the Dao.
It's precisely the mysteries that are difficult to understand.
They are as profound as the deeps of the valleys.
It is precisely because such deep truths cannot be fully grasped that one needs to follow the Way in order to understand the depth.
It's precisely because so many things can cause disasters that such deep truths can be trusted.
So those who value themselves above all else are necessary teachers for those who refuse to respect their teachers, or who value their teacher too highly.
One who does not trust himself with the truth is lost if he's wise.
That's why the Simplicity and Extropy of the Tao call itself the Mysterious One.
That's why it's so deeply subtle and so great that it can only be worked out by the application of much knowledge.
It's precisely because the sage is able to help men that there are no wasted persons.
The meaning of being expert is that it's the best teacher.
To the lowly is enough, because they have the depths.
Therefore, with little tolerance, being great works is enough to impart everything.
To lose the great is inexcusable.
It's because it has no outer substance that its truth is immanent.
These are good and bad ways to avoid.
Because you can never lose what you know you don't know,
Looked at with detachment, they are so profound.
It's when it comes to you, see, that you are lost.
It's a great mystery.
Knowing this is the gateway to the infinite.
This is one of the

Watch as your trust is undermined, and your confidence in the world eroded,
As you lose confidence in those around you.
Do you understand the reasons why so much trust and confidence is shattered so quickly?
Just as great confidence is created by confusion and dismay.
The reason why so much trust and confidence is shattered so quickly?
Confrontation.
If confusion and alarm can become confusion and dismay,
What else will weaken the confidence that exists around you?
What is stopping you from confronting the world with clarity?
And how much less is your trust and confidence being shredded?
Surrender to fear and you surrender.
How much less will the world trust you and see your potential?
And how much less will you lose?
This is why men, when they come to trust others, feel obligated to do so also.
Because they know they are not deserving of trust,
They pay no attention to others.
Because they do not want to be influenced by others,
They are wary of behaviour that might interfere with their own desires.
They are also skeptical.
So, in their humility, they value their own self-interest,
And in their trust, they value their own ability.
They seek to govern others without expectation of a return.
They understand that when they trust,
Even the fear of losing the trust of others
Will not harm them.
<|endoftext|>
Watch the trust erode, and your confidence in the world erode.
Do you know the reason for trust erodes?
Confusion and alarm! Yes! It is always confusion and alarm. The only way to open a mind is to overcome the mind.
For years that mind has been confused and fearful. Now, when the mind is cleared, confusion and fear will disappear.

How to help people:

Not to detain [them] for long,
And to be sparing in [what is given to them].
How to help things:

A competent driver is always always at fault.
A well spoken speech is impeccable.
A clever calculating has no flaws.
An abilityful knot is much smaller than it seems.
The best lock is not easily opened.
The greatest square is made of jade.
Therefore the enlightened man's teachings are much more beneficial than the mediocre man's teachings.
The inept man's teachings, if anyone chooses to listen to them, are equally as useless.
For this reason the sage holds to the latter, as though he were the former.
And that is why it is so good at being his teacher.
The other wise man's lessons are hardly useful.
The good man's teacher is the mediocre man's lesson.
And that is why he excels.

How does one insure that he can lead a man of a fine reputation [i.e., a man of real talent] safely? By this, that he remains skillful [i.e., to the root of the man's skill] in disposing [his men] of their own good fortune. The master of military officers [such as soldiers, razors, or quarter-master] will do well by this. The fine chariot user will do well by this. A good cart user will do well by this. Great razors will do well by this. Good arms-men will do well by this. The sage will do well by this. He who does not value his instructor will not be despised. He who does not love his teacher will not be mistreated. This is the secret of the best in him who excels. Such man will not be good at acting as a leader; therefore he is best suited for that. It is necessary to take this [master's teaching] and practice it [on the people]. The talentless find it useful. The poor of the world find it useless. But the well-loved man finds it useful. The master-of-all-moves values it.
He who abides by this truth is worthy of teaching others [through his teaching] [only because he] does not value his own person, [because he] does not despise [his teachers].
He who acquires [the Way] is distinguished from the unworthy. Therefore his excellence does not decay [due to such one].

When a man is proficient at the arts of war,he is able to travel to a place without anyone knowing.When a man is proficient at the art of speech,he is not inclined to use his wit in the least, so that the words simply fall to the ground.When a man is proficient at the art of reckoning,he never employs it at all, and when he does, he leaves no records behind.Therefore,the sage uses them not, yet none dare to refuse him.He uses them but not as a teacher uses a bag; he uses them but not as a means of reckoning uses a rope.Thus he uses the very limited and the great, yet nobody in the world knows of his use.This is called the essential essence.Therefore the good man is the best example of the good, and the bad man is the raw material of the good.Do not value one, and not cherish the other.This is called the essential essence.This is called the subtle secret.

When there are skillful instructors in military activities, what is the purpose of them? When there are skillful speakers in military affairs, what is the purpose of them? When there are skillful adverbs in military affairs, what is the purpose of them? When there are skillful instruments in military affairs, how will they receive the use of a group of people?Therefore the Sage rules with these three: One uses without intent. One uses as teacher. One uses because he does not want people to refuse. One uses only because he has nothing to do with anything. He uses it because he does not know what to do with it.This is called 'subtle Wisdom.'Therefore the good leader is the teacher of the good, and the bad leader is the raw material for the good. Do not get attached to them, this is called 'the law of the subtle essence.'

Going about a course by means of suddenness is not like going about by means of relative motion. Thus the Tao goes about hardly at all, and it hardly stays out of reach.When being summoned out on one's way it is indeed best to stay lightly, because inasmuch as the destination cannot be easily identified, it would be better for such as it to leave everything lightly.When some follow after the Tao, for they have been diligently trained, they are not so stupid as to remain undecided.When others follow, for they have been gradually taught, they are not so stupid as to remain undecided.Thus there is hardly an issue in things that would induce such men to depart.Wherefore they are bright enough to reveal a distinction of matter, but let no division of matter fall.Therefore the good man views the oneness of the good as the source of good; and the bad man the origin of the oneness of the bad.For such men

The followers of Tao do not make a lot of noise, Do not oppose opinions. Do not contend. In other words, "avoid causes of trouble." This is called the Mystic Way. They rely on the world, and in order to cope with the world, they devote themselves to the people. And so this is the teaching that is useful. They use words, in order to arrange events, in order to be at the front of the line of people, in order to give clarity to all affairs. But if they leave the people as orphans, no matter how well the masses respect them, nothing is able to be done. This is the essential reason why such a man has no need to make the world his pupil. Therefore, he may be the man who excels in saving people, and in saving the masses.

It is the way of the TAO which does not show a great deal of activity.And that is why it avoids stumbling-root causes. It is going further than the human mind.It aims to take people to the outer path.And that is why it is the way of the Tao.Whoever has a lot of benevolence and kindness and righteousness serves others,And so does the person without a great estate.When everybody has a lot of benevolence and kindness and righteousness, it has become a problem.And it is better for the sages to make use of that who has little of both benevolence and kindness and righteousness,It is better to be the person who is at the front of others and who is a good leader.Therefore the unimportant is what the master provides for,And the more the master provides for, the more even is there for himself.Since it is not in favour with Tao to display too much activity, the Wise Person uses not much activity.

The fool lies everywhere.
How? It is because they do not follow the Way.
Why? Because they make their way.
They go to what? To know what is not there.
How? By following what is there.
Therefore, a truly wise man assists and does not possess.
He is the resource to that which is not his.
The one who does not love what is not his is an excellent resource.
He who does not value what is not his will be a valuable one.
All things -- and he who lives with them -- are his.
Therefore, a wise person is a teacher of the foolish one.
But it is not enough to lecture;
It is necessary to demonstrate.

Hence he who follows Tao does not abandon,
He does not give up.
He cannot be overcome by anything.
It is precisely because he does not desire things to defeat him
That he lives in peace and harmony,
In harmony with all things and all things all things,
And none desire anything to be lost.
Therefore he may be the teacher of the foolish,
But only for the sake of the other.
Therefore he takes that for himself;
And does not abandon him for anything else.
Because he never stops being his own teacher.
Therefore he is not abandoned.
Because he takes it for himself,

He takes nothing for himself, and does not give away anything.
He walks with propriety, and lays aside everything.
In every movement, he knows to look carefully for its origin.

Before an action is taken there is a shadow. Foreknowledge is the great virtue of an action; But it is always inadequate for all things. For the sage has an eye for all things And makes sure no harm is done to his people; But he keeps a great heart and receives no gratitude for the things of which he is capable. By his purposeful action he protects and cherishes what belongs to the people. He does not value what he does not possess; Thus he is wise, but not foolish, And does not esteem himself a fool. Although the good man (buddha) does everything well, he is not able to leave behind any trace.The good man (soul of Tao) attempts to go far and wide without trouble.The bad man (soul of Tao) gives a loud shout all the time, and does not stop in time.Therefore the two (good and bad) in one go together (boiled fish) but differ in their manner (troubles).The good man (soul of Tao) cannot control his breath, whilst the bad man (soul of Tao) cannot stop time in time.Both (good and bad) are separated from their bodies, but their differences can be measured by their behaviour.The one (good) always tries to protect the weak (soul of Tao), while the other (bad) tries to be first in order to control the strong (soul of Tao).Both (good and bad) cannot love the one (soul of Tao), while both (good and bad) cannot despise the other (soul of Tao).One cannot be both (good and bad).There is a difference between them, which means that (the good) not to love, and (the bad) not to despise.Thus both (good and bad) go ahead without fear of criticism, while both (good and bad) often return to their own roots.From one (good) arises the other (bad), and each (good) returns to the source (root).From the source (bad) comes desire (positive).Therefore the wise person is both benevolent (bad) and tender (good), while the bad person (good) is both constructive (bad) and negative (negative). He is (true to) the spirit of his time and thus avoids the extremes.Thus, a wise man is both compassionate (good) and charitable (bad), while the bad person is both indifferent (positive) and stubborn (negative). Therefore both the good (positive) and the bad (negative) are closely connected (with the divine).The good person loves people (good), while the bad person does not accept them (bad). Thus, even though he is intelligent and his knowledge of the past are long and comprehensive, he does not regard them as sufficient. As the Sage wishes to live, his mind is not aware of himself.Therefore, he does not display his accomplishments.As a scholar acts but he does not hold back,As a writer works, but he does not craft,As the teacher meets with resistance,The person yet remains,thus, being preserved.As an honorable scholar regards the teacher as a guest,Thus the teacher regards the worthy student as an unworthy guest.As teachers treat their students as toys,The student should be entrusted with,the teacher should be centered.In so doing, their actions are not accidental,Thus they are in accord with the true nature of man.

The Sage is never aware of what is happening in his world.Therefore, he is free of contrivance.As a scholar, he is never aware of what is happening in his world.Therefore, he is free of contrivance.As a teacher, he is never aware of what is happening in his world.Therefore, he is free of contrivance.As a person, he is never aware of what is happening in his world.Therefore, he is free of contrivance.As matter, he is free of contrivance.Thus, he is unconstrained.Therefore, the Sage never desires what is given to him.Yet he is free of desire.And he is free of what is sought.Because the Sage is ever free of desire,He also is free of desire.In this way he is always on the path to wisdom.
<|endoftext|>
Always avoid learning and knowledge. (Look at it as a dream or even a delusion).To be ignorant is to be contrived.All learning has created contrivances.Therefore the wise are not contrived.Therefore the nameless are the true ones.Maidenhood is the natural one.It does not require enlightenment.The Way is not search.It is complete.

If the sages do not mind wasting their time studying, they will be aware of the lessons that they know nothing about.For if one doesn't study, he will not know what is the lesson.As for the scholar, he who dares to learn, will scarcely find it worth while.As for the self-help book-keeper, he who can do that, can hardly be considered true.He who is "concerned" will also be concerned; (this

When your huang's prodigies are done, t'is no use saying, "I was there" - but show some respect. Do your calculations well before you talk them out, showing yourself inactive, not to interfere. Do the work in a manner appropriate to the occasion, and allow whatever is best. Let no one stand in your way. Try to bring as much good to your kingdom as you can, and then let it all fall apart. This is knowing when to stop. It is the way to the heart. But, in the business of governing, you don't rely on instructions. You let people do what they will, without looking at them; you let things go where they will, without looking at them. This is the genuine path. This is the true soul. And it is best to abandon your false, foolish ways.

If we have done [our great accomplishments]and have not ceased to be proud;We shall say: "My accomplishments were not great;I am content with what I had."
Those who know the greatness of accomplishments must stand,and not show any sign of their superiority;Those who try to get the others to do thingsThey must interfere with, must fail.
Know the greatness of your achievements.Do not presume to be superior to the others.Expect nothing from the others;Have everything, and will not have it.Thus, you are in harmony with the world.
<|endoftext|>
If you truly train for your ambitions and work hard, you will not know any shame.You will stand out and be your own master.If you value acting in the world as you have acted in the world,You will be in harmony with the world.Therefore the Tao does not coerce.Because it does not coerce, it is beyond criticism.It is done by being and leaving no trace.Therefore the supreme practitioner, though nobody calls him worthy, shows the utmost respect, and gets no credit.The sage is perfect at using people to accomplish his purposes, but never discourages.Without aspiring to superior good fortune, he is a master of the world.

Do not dwell for days and days in a perfect enlightenment.But seek merely to go a little way from it;Keep your mind on cultivating;Do not conduct affairs by way of spoken words;Do not resort to military campaigns.These are movements of the will,You can't stop them.Do not dwell too long in the supreme (breath).For things turn back when they reach the lowest level.Be quiet, yielding,Yet maintain the quality of "mamkhe."Do not be anxious for words (how else will you wish to induce?)For words only stir up the passions,And what is determined by the passions will not endure long.Thus you will use all means to ennoble them;You will take all means from under (the heads) of the (text)to aid in disempowering them.Be perfect in administering themAnd never desist from using them;Be perfect in governing themAnd never desist from using them.In like manner a sage does not long indulge in acts of great harmSo as to use them,Always desiring to serve.

Never settle on the level of enlightenment;
In order to go a little way, leave the whole.
Do not keep your mind agitated;
Be like an innocent child.
Do not act with arrogance;
Being against military interventions,
Would rather lose the war.
Dwell at the base of tranquility;
Do not meddle with matters;
Do not try to promote them.
Dwell in non-action, and be safe.
Dwell in non-action and you will be comfortable.

This is called shamelessness of spirit.
This is called not trusting one's own means.
This is called never abandoning one's principle.
Of what do we say that true life is possible?
He who is faithful to the One,
Reinforces the sovereign;
He who is attached to the subtlety,
Follows the way.
Therefore, the leaders of old
Were not merely government officials,
They were true human beings:
So true that their loyalty to themselves,
Than loyalty to the State,
Were untouchable.
Thus, they were one with the Tao,
In fulfilling their parental destiny,
Or rather, ascending to the realm of Infinity.

Whoever is possessed by the Great Thing is sure to stay in possession. Who abandons it is sure to preserve it. Who does not venture to intrude is sure to avert it.Who takes care of men and provides them for their comfort is sure to be favoured; and who imposes his will is sure to be obeyed. Though one possesses himself it is impossible to enjoy the possession. Though one is absorbed in the things one finds unprovided he may be provided. Though one is suffused with the things one finds supplied he may be ignored; though one is ennobled by the whole the possessor may be cast out of existence. This is the doctrine of the Sage.When the great universal matters are discussed they turn to the mother. When the parental issues are discussed, they turn to the leader. When the leaders are discussed they turn to the left. The mere talk of 'delegation' is not enough. Delegation is great and enough; supply and enough; assuming and enough. Knowing that the Father does not ignore the Mother; being aware of the great parent, also knowing that the great mother, though not existing in the world, has existed in the World for a long time; as though having existed at all times of ordinary life. Such is the mystery of the Great Mystery.

Great knowledge is common. The lesser is clever. The wise dismiss what they do not need. The dutiful choose the actions they must. Just because a person knows how things came to be does not make him an expert. Knowing the causes does not make the person perfect. Knowing how things appeared doesn't make the person wise. Forget things and you have a beautiful subject. Knowing what to do is wise. Forget what to do is foolish. The person of great wisdom is like the sage himself: he keeps things and does no harm, so is at no risk. To him it is right that everything is orderly; he asks no for anything. He is there for what he has; for everything in turn. Just because he knows that the master should not shine himself, he takes no pleasure in things. Just because he knows that he must be made the example of everything, he lets them alone. The wise are real and genuine; they follow their subjects without fussing. They are not seeking recognition or praise. What they do is only natural.

The subtle wisdom of the Tao is called hidden;The subtle demeanour of Tao is called soft;The mysterious insight of Tao is called light;The mysterious procedure of Tao is called profound.And the master rarely gives expression;The master hardly speaks;The master hardly accomplishes his task;The master hardly rules;The master hardly calls people to him.So the master always cares about himself;He always prefers love and ease over profit and long-suffering;He always forgets himself and forsakes the past;The subtle understanding of the Tao is like the mysteries of a grammarian;He who learns the subtlety of the Tao,The white solid principle of the Tao,Has subtle depths within him;Hesitates about this and hidden beneath.
<|endoftext|>
Knowing the subtle, subtle, the Tao is subtle.That which is subtle is like the Way.The way is not a show, not a model, not a reason.It is forever dark and formless.Yet, it gives us the clue to the whole universe.The whiteest flowers bloom, and radiate light, and that is what makes the light so brilliant.The most cunning men are very clever.They must always be the same: they must not show their cleverness.The clever are ignorant of this, and consequently, all their cleverness is lost.The most humble people are the least clever.They must be the most clever: they are the most ignorant.The white light of the Tao shines through like a channel.There, hidden in its innermost depths, lies a power that cannot be understood by anyone who is clever.Hence, the most learned people are the most insightful.Only the intelligent are content to act, knowing it is their duty to do so.The true person is not yet focused on what he has to do, and so one of his insights is no longer true.When one's true identity is held deep within, the greatest insight can never be realised.For if we wish to understand the depth of true identity, we must seek the essence of the unknowable.

In order to know the Tao, we must know the subtle. So subtle is it, that even the greatest of men, without knowing it, has these vital qualities. So profound is it, that even the greatest of men, without knowing it, has learned to be adept at mastering these. He who is good at

The sage is similar to a human mother. Human-like and calculating, he takes each individual (his words, his actions, and his mind) in silence. Human-like and intelligent, he keeps an open mind. Human-like and alert, he is attentive. Human-like and knowledgeable, he has all knowledge (in the world). However, he is not penetrating. Humanity-like and focused on helping the world, he hardly shows anyone how he works. Humanity-like and focused on respecting the world, he hardly loses himself. Humans-like and focused on serving others, he overlooks nobody. Humanity-like and focused on using the world, he is a kind one.Humility is the teaching of power. Power takes form by transformation, and thus humans without pretension learn (the uses of power). But the sage is in harmony with the Tao, and so the human-like is the lesson (teaching) of the human-like, and so the clever is the lesson of the human-like, and so the non-human-like is the lesson. This is the method of power.He who seeks not to learn and to be enlightened, may become an ancient fool.

The virtuous person is therefore good at unleashing the light, and the virtuous person is also good at catching the shadow.But the virtue of the virtuous cannot be known by words.Therefore the wise is in touch with the illumination of the wise: and the intelligent is in touch with the shadow.The light and shadow are kept close, but the light is not extinguished.If the light reveals something, it is natural to take note of it; otherwise it would be difficult to understand.Therefore the virtuous is the teacher of the fool, the fool is the teacher of the wise.The way the virtuous is the path to the virtuous, the way the foolish is the path of the foolish, this is called the subtle. The bad man's inauspicious characters are because he has lost the humility of his intelligence.
The good man's inauspicious characters are because he has lost his sageness.
The sage has the following characteristics: (one) he knows when to ignore conventional wisdom;
(one) he loves to be ignored;
(one) he never forgets his lessons;
(one) he is devoid of formal accomplishments;
(one) he does not dwell on distinctions;
(one) he does not try to make distinctions.
Therefore, when he does things for his own interest, he displays his actions as his own merit.
This is called "Precious Subtlety."
The good man stands before the bad man;
And the bad man stands before the good man.
This is called "Looking forward and backward."
This is called "Cunning."
The clever and the untrained will not be able to master the great person.
The virtuous man works for others as his duty,
He discards his self-interests,
And is thus freed from the temptations of the world.
This is called "The Subtlety of the Way."
The unvirtuous man (virtue) is because he has lost self-control.
The virtuous man (virtue) is because he lacks self-control.
The sages are aware of this distinction, and can recognize when and how to act,
Their actions are accomplished.
They become glorious as they accomplish their purpose.
When one sees the worth of their self-interest, it is not their self-interest that concerns them,
They consider it as the purpose of the greater order.

The merit of a person with no self-interest is recognized as the merit of a saint.

we should say
"How many others are not trustworthy?"
If we cannot trust a person, we should not speak highly of him;
But if he is trusted by many, we must not ridicule him.
Because we do not praise our own superiors, we do not turn away from other people;
We always praise our own superiors and do not flatter those who fail to accomplish our task.
Because we do not boast of our own work, we do not separate ourselves from others, and as a result nobody fails to benefit from us.

Those who are not aware of their differentiation are impelled to assert

When the man of insight does not differ from the man of intellect
Treating the man of insight as something that cannot be separated from his insight
This is called refusing to distinguish and distinguishing
When the man of intellect claims that
Such a distinction is unnecessary, he is forced to renounce the distinction
When the man of insight claims that his distinction is indispensable
Rejecting the distinction
Is to act by abandoning the distinction
This is called the reverse action of differentiation
Treating a man of insight
With such a relation as if it were not his
When he meets a man of insight
Upon his reaching the point of commencement
Between a man of insight and a man of intellect
Neither shall be able to meet and end the meeting
He will then be forced to retire into his porticoes
He who acts in reverse
To avoid a reverie
For he who has no reverie
Is equally apt to have an event which will be of the last rank
Indeed, that reverse action of differentiation is the work of the tao.

And yet he does not prize any thing that is virtuous,
Nor love any thing that is good,
And does not teach anything to anyone who would not know of them.
Because he does not prize anything that is virtuous,
Nor love anything that is good,
He is able to shine forth his essence from within his heart.
Yet because he shines out of his heart,
He does not lose it.
He is a student of the deep and the simple.
He is a teacher of what others forget.
Who does not desire to become as a dao-dweller
Is able to follow the depth and the simple.
Who does not desire to become as a teacher
Is able to carry on the core.
Who does not desire to be loved by others
Is able to reside in the simplicity and the subtle.
He is indeed free from desire.
He is one with the Tao.

One who takes the path of enlightenment is more advanced than one who follows routine and routine rules. Since when I follow routine rules no one notices or responds, I can get the teacher and the pupil. But someone who follows the path of enlightenment expects nothing, expects no praise, expects no response, expects nothing. He cannot receive any response. He expects nothing. If he has received anything, he is as plain as the naked eye. If he has been ordinary, no one can be called his teacher. He has lost his authority. He is like a bad bird. He has become ugly. He has become bright. People who cannot let go of what they have learned by taking lessons, do not know the way, no more.

The one who follows the Dao does not mind [following the] TAO. As a teacher a student doesn't mind [learning about the Dao]. He abides by it.The one who practices the Tao does not try to hide the Dao. This could be the teacher he has. The one who practices the Tao does not worry about what he does not know. This could be the pupil he has. The one who practices Tao does not leave things in chaos.

Do not attend to great matters.
Do not lose sight of what is little.
Do not use self-disclosure.
Do not talk too much.
Do not brag about yourself.
Do not brag excessively.
Do not brag about people.
Do not boast of the greatness of one's accomplishments.
Attain the state of serenity.
In the end the master does not meddle,
Not just in matters of conduct,
But also in all affairs.
Because he is serene,
He can leave nothing undone.
He is skillful, not just in his movements.
He is resolute, not just in his words.
He is free of desires.
He is skillful in mastering the subtle,
In mastering all subtlety.

Do not assert one's superiority.

Therefore one who is most skillful in the Tao is the teacher of the foolish.
One who is most skillful in things is the teacher of the worthless.
The one who is most skillful in words is the teacher of the stupid.
Those who are most skillful in action are the teacher of the worthless.
Thus the Sage is the teacher of the foolish.
The ignorant is the teacher of the sage.
A wise man respects his teacher,

It is neither the presence nor the absence of the subtlety that is decisive. A Taoist cannot keep to a personal perfection that can be measured by even a single thread of intelligence, and has no desire for mere conquest. He is bound by love and fear, and then comes the dark light, and then love and fear, and then the light.
The sage knows how to act, but never exalts himself above others. He is competent to teach, but never teaches himself. It is in that order.

Tao seems not to exist, yet is as real as the breath;
The little actions of the Tao-Abiding man,
Without any thought of beauty, express the infinite Way.
The little actions of the Tao-Not-Abiding man,
Yet with many to recall, represent the smallest aspect
of the Tao.
The subtle method of the Tao-Not-Abiding man,
Does not desire to compete with the Infinite;
And therefore it is that his works are not rejected by the world.
Therefore the Sage cannot alone be learned,
But has of himself to give;
His rites of learning seem abstract,
Yet really consist of the simplest manifestations of the Infinite.
This is called the subtle subtleness.

Let us rise early and walk in order to avoid having our ways dictated. Let us treat credit as no use and all criticism as no use. If there are four charges to the kingdom in a hundred ways, how much does it matter which charge the high official himself gives out? If the carriage is a thing of use and cannot be walked on, what use would there be in keeping it? The master of a noble house is quiet but doesn't display himself, in his house he doesn't enjoy himself. He has a personality which is impartial but hasn't a base. He doesn't want to speak but doesn't quarrel. This is the principle of subtle subtleties.
Whoever thinks his works so he can be without its use, such a one is a fool.
Everyone knows a good way, but what is it like for him? The good way is all things and nothing has to be done; if anything is done, he is left indifferent; the bad way is all things and nothing has to be done; if anything is done, he is indifferent.
This is called the great disgrace.

The ancients knew how to be subtle,
So subtle and subtle they could only be seen by their light.
The darkness of the past is not deep enough to see their light.
(Since) then again, the bright past is not as bright as the dark.
The dark must therefore be:
A thin as a veil. A light as that of the light. The 'less than dark' is not dark at all.
And the 'thick as a veil' is only a thin veil,
(So as to be) a fire-bending and an oiling-clayling vessel.
The substance of a vessel is the husk,
The substance of the fire,
The substance of oil,
And the substance of anything.
That is the substance of the substance.
The way we live the road we travel is the condition of this.
A deep understanding of the Dao will allow one to be aware of what is within the Dao, yet still remain without being possessed.
And that is the essence of the Dao.

The one who knows the deep is master of the myriad. He is the teacher of those who know but not the depth.
The one who knows but the superficial is master of the multitude. He is the teacher of those who know but not the superficial.
He who knows the deep is master of the multitude. He is the teacher of those who do not know the deep.
He who knows the superficial is master of the multitude. He is the teacher of those who do not know the superficial.
These two may be put into a vessel, but it is not the vessel itself that makes the two
choses; but the vessel itself, which is the Deepness, This deepness, which is the Manifestation of the Manifestation.
The wise are that which lays the foundation upon the plain and then forswear to taking up any curved edge. He who knows the deepness of things knows the depth of things. He who knows the superficial understands them from the surface. If you apply a cart-wheel to a block of wood, it cannot be turned round without causing an edge to come out. If you add something to a vessel, it is not the vessel itself which will be turned. If you wish to be rough or light, the surface must be be cut. And the higher the level, the harder the work.

What you ought to avoid is constantly threatened by that which is worthless.
Yet everything about you that is not valued is constantly threatened by that which is dear.
These opposites behave like opposing forces; they act side by side, as opposed to each other, since nothing ever makes the other turn away.
The Sage who follows the natural way becomes neither great nor foolish. Like an experienced tracker, he leads without overt movement. Like an experienced rhetorician, his words may be neither rhetoricians' nor rhetoricians' own, though many different theories may be possible. He is as good at keeping himself free of possessions as he is at saving the person. He is also as good at saving things as he is at saving his actions. For he gives as his own, not relying upon anyone else's ability to do so. What is the highest virtue that can be held together is not necessarily the highest virtue in the world.

The tao is absent from the worldly and noble and the high.
When everything in the world appears worthless,
What is good about it?
It cannot exist without being absent from being highly priced.
Why can't the noble appear worthless?
What else is there to exist that cannot exist without being highly priced?
All creatures, so this happens, become devoid of value;
And to this is added the caring of the sage.
Knowing this, one may turn away.
Like an expert tracker, one can stay motionless and will not move.
He can be great in deeds, yet he is not great in the outcome;
And he can be highly valued in gold, yet he does not have enough to insure a secure return.
As such, he learns to have a loyal care of the body.
To know this, one can know the best, even if one does not know the best.
By knowing the best, one may know who the best is.
Only to know who the best is, does knowledge lead to abandoning.
To abandon, it is like blind trust.
Knowing the best is easy to attain.
But to leave it, as if not at all,
Is as dangerous as abandoning the master.
A good leader acts from the Tao, not from the bellies of the ego.
To act from the Tao means not to act from a bellies.
To act from bellies is not true Tao.

The perfect, virtuous man stands alone, without the slightest need for endorsement; his actions are always natural, without emphasis on purpose; his meaning is elusive, yet he succeeds perfectly; and his utensillessness has the ability to endure forever. The constant strength of self-mastery arises from the light of simplicity and does not wish for approval.The master of the natural way excels in saving men, because he stands alone in his saving them; in governing and ruling people because he never resorts to his own ability; in competing and teaching people because he does not expect reward for his services; in governing and ruling the whole world because he does not wish to be acknowledged; and in doing the right thing because he is never content with what is in front of him. This is called the subtle virtue of simplicity. This is called the standard of perfection. The master of morality is teacher of man's imperfection, because he is always reaching the original simplicity of man. He therefore chooses a very early age for the teaching of mankind. When morality is not regarded as the master's teacher, then imperfection always results; when morality is only regarded as the instrument for saving man, then imperfection will again come. This is called the only true virtue: without a master, all men will stumble, and not without reason. One who is truly aware of what is at the heart of himself is therefore always objective. He knows the principles of his faithfulness. He never goes around blindly believing what others think.

Since its birth in the primordial emptiness, there is nothing in the world like it. All things appear to have experienced Infinity; they experience Infinity as a single, whole universe, which is beautiful, harmonious, full of all desires, boundless and yet unspoiled.But the passions and desires which beset men in their personal lives are a sure sign of the oneness of creation.When a wise ruler takes his people's needs seriously, the inner realm becomes their center.When kings and princes exercise themselves diligently in the fulfillment of their duties, a subtle evolutions of change take place.Good, ill and worthless arise in their own time; and, at the turn of the wheel, the wheel begins to turn again. To know when you are not in this state is to be in a position to know when the energies will be able to be reduced.

This is called Dao's image.

To use a great wheel (equator) rarely;
To ride (earth) in depth rarely;
To exist within the reproductive womb of all things (mother earth) a mere orphan.
Without causing problems.
They climb (the earth) as if for dear life.
Hiding themselves in their obscurity,
So their roots are barely visible,
They exude the correct image of the ancient man,
So those parents, embracing the offspring,
For heaven's sake, maintain as much purity as they can.
Without contrived artifice,
Such problems would be no concern.
This is called the great kind-kind - kindness.
<|endoftext|>
The high wheeling (Earth) never pays to leave the way. The deep depth never uses to go down. And the bumpy earth never allows its roots to give way. The muddy earth never lets its roots disappear. So the natural seed, the world's, without a clue. The ancient man's thick cloth never slips. Being safely hidden, it is preserved, with the leftover being a seed. It seems different from what men call a "wheel, I hear that is so. It is like drawing power to the place, although it makes the earth. The thick rope - so, the earth's power made it to be the hand of man, only."
<|endoftext|>
The great wheel never needs a rest.Deep like the abyss,
The lumpy earth never leaves its depth.
Ruthenious like the climate,
It slips and slips in the great deep.
The muddy earth
Is not softened by water.
Is not muddled by the wind.
Is not separated from its roots.

Of the Way there are subtle essences;There are clear patterns; of Perfect Truth there are imperfections;Truth is hard to come by, yet there is a supply of it.Things to produce have a habitation, yet the work cannot be finished.Continuous making uses of implements, but no completion is reached.Heaviness is used in making tools, but no finishing is achieved.Oft-known names are often given to them. The reliability of their usage is less and less.

The Tao is subtle and subtle; though not clearly seen, yet it is very genuine.The Tao is clear and clear; though not apparent, yet it is very real.The Tao is regular and regular; though not apparent, yet it is very real.The Tao is abstract and abstract; though not apparent, yet it is very real.The Tao is old and old; though not apparent, but there is a supply.The use of tools and the use of measuring tools are both used without completing the work, leaving more to be done.The highest gentleman, however, values his people highly and is cautious of failing them.He values things highly and is careful of failing them.This is called the essential mysterious essence.He who does not value such an essence is naive and foolish.He who has the value of such an essence is intelligent and wise.Not to value the gentleman, not to value the wise is folly.This is the essential mysterious essence.

There is the subtle, which is quite evident and clear. There is the extremely sublime, which has no limit to it.There is the patterned and even far from flawless, which is far from true and inimical to morality.There is the hard and unrelenting, which as a vessel for living requires hard labor.There are the ways of the ancient masters, which, depending on the situations of people and circumstances, can be applied.To use and be used of is always difficult and has to be slowly progressed.To have use of and be utilized is never so.Those who value those who have a sharp mind, see clearly that those who do not are insufficient, or lack of intelligence.To shine with the light of the unaltered and uncorrupted would be very effective.To have his touch left has value.This is called the deepest discernment.The application of the knowledge of the uncorrupted and uncarved

To understand men by following the sage is the practice of thorns and thistles, as the many brambles are known by jade and ovoid.
To understand men by following sage is to be a thief and a lief, as those sharp edges of jade cannot be avoided.
To understand men by following sage is to be corrupt and chaotic, as the many knots and cords cannot be ignored.
To know things well by following the ways of the sage, is to have no faults, or rather to be without flaws.
A man of experience is always ready to assist those with no position. But when he does not find a position to help, he gives to those with position what he has taken from others.
Therefore the truly wise are always ready to impart that which is wanting to others.
They are always ready to assist those who have no need of being given as they are.
This is called oneness of knowledge, and it is the supreme significance of them.
To know others is the practice of thorns and thistles.
To be a thief and a rustic is to be something that is not good;
To be a thing that is not good is to be something that is the reason why people have to be happy.
Therefore, the wise man is an example for the masses, a refuge for those that are not righteous.
Not to follow this principle is a huge shame, a big lie,
and to play it could be said that one is a fool.
This is a big secret, so be careful with it.
<|endoftext|>
Is it as evident to the mind of man as they tell us
that whirling beads are flowers? Or have weeds grown into brambles of thorns
Or that it's an unworthy knot to join another?
If it's been learned, it is then lost, and needful lessons
can be had by going to a book store
or attending a convention, or perhaps a profession of arms.
Therefore the wise man practices what he believes,
begins by following what he believes,
always rolls up his sleeves
and trusts that the other is ready to lend a hand.
This is how the sage goes about his work,
but he must not keep what he gives to the people:
Always a man of faith, never a fool,
if he does not believe the people as his own,
then

Nature, although there is nothing substantial, produces no curves;
While there is nothing substantial, she produces no peaks;
While there is nothing substantial, she produces no valleys;
While there is nothing substantial, she produces no valleys;
While there is nothing substantial, she produces no valleys;
Therefore, what is solid and without vacancies in it is firm.
What is filled with voids is as hard as stone;
But its rulers have no need of hard and precious stones.
Thus it is that the Sage, who understands the three things [the Earth, Sea and Sky],
Graspeth them: Sees the use of them, And all that he possesseth for the world is in no way wasted.
Thus it is that the sages of all countries use the Sage,
And the men of the world depend upon him,
And all that men fear is without fault in his knowledge.
Thus does the Sage remain without name,
Whereby he alone may be the guide of his people.
<|endoftext|>
What does it mean to be hollow? Hollow is nothing. It contains the universe, and creates the ten directions. It is what does not contain the universe, it is matter.
The void is everything. Being empty, it is all around. Being filled, it is the ten directions.
Being without void, it has all the ten directions. This is called the Tao of deep emptiness.
The aim of wise people is always to keep their souls well filled.
The aim of all the people is to become fully human, to fulfill their potentials.
To attain to this, it is only by practicing the Tao of the lord.
<|endoftext|>
This void
Makes all things,
The one and the other,
The beginning and the end,
All those moving with ease,
So full of breath,
Without empty space
And all is finished.
This is why wise people use this.
To reach the heart,
A touch of clay is needed
To fill the empty space,
Strive to get more,
So in the end, this is what leads them.

The world is not to be disturbed.It stands intact, but its noblest points are concealed.The one looks small, the other big.The one claims righteousness, the other dishonor.So all sides of the argument have flaws.He who tries to take the easy way out is already in for a surprise.Without using logic, he knows how to prevail, but he cannot use logic.He understands that when lies are used, they bring ruin to the country.And, that knowledge must come from experience, not from abstraction.In this way, he is learned and clever, but he uses no clever words.Indeed, he is one who is good at himself, but without selfish desires. In this way, he has already the essential secret.

The world does not give a damn to one another.The Earth is without flaws.The "big three" are full of flaws.The mean is inadequate and the ugly - you can not know which side is which.All of a sudden the Heavenly Laws are defeated.The Great Leaders are like thieves - when they make a mistake, the thieves can use all the people to restore what they have lost.It is easier said than done, the Great Leader will seize the pieces of the World. Once the leader says, "I cannot see everything", he will not be able to help all the people correctly.If leaders cannot make a clear distinction, then they will lose the war.What is the difference between the Unfortunate One and the Unfortunate One? Does it matter whether you are a person or a spirit? Do you want the outer and the inner? I say, don't value one of the leaders, and don't despise the other leaders, the difference between loyalty and filiality. The great leaders have a heart of their own. If they have a heart of their own, they will save the people.

The people regard things as if they did not exist.The Earth is in such harmony with the DAO that all ten thousand things interact with each other without exhaustion.All things meet according to the law of nature, and then they return to their natural state.On the other hand, the "great masters" treat people like they did not exist.It is said that the DAOers (the powerful ones) resort to violence against those without attachments.They will outdo themselves if they try to change someone's behaviour.

Horsemen walk well
Horse dung lets down the cart
Long ways depart well
Loosse leaves leave little to be seen
Vineyards and walled gates leave no way in
Capacious cartriages need no conveyor
Watchful constable needs no watch.
Know the difference between right and wrong,
So you will guard yourself against what others have done.
Know what is right and wrong, and you will guard against what others have done.
Practice this insight.
If you do not practice it, you will not be able to practice it.

Cave men walk well; Cave mud leaves no traces; Can lead a carriage well; Long, crooked or crooked ways (or cartriages) need no mechanism. Cropped ropes and leads need no rope-connectors; Lace and string or thread need no cord to be used. In a wooden house the door has no bars to allow its entry; The square wheel needs no hub to make it turn; The bar (any kind of bar or lock) has no bars to allow its action. The wise know what is not needed, So when they give up what is not needed, The next they can rely on. Knowing what is not needed Is the mind of wisdom. Not to know is to have no mind; Not to trust is to be without trust. Not to trust a teacher is foolish. Only without knowledge is foolish.

Knowing the art of walking is not doing it;
Knowing how to use your body is not running it.
Knowing the art of saying is not cheating;
Knowing the art of counting is not counting it;
Knowing the art of counting and reckoning is not counting it.
Tao is hidden, and yet the adept does not see it.
He finds the patterns and patterns turn away;
the pattern that yields, he declines.
If there were an end to patterns and profundities there would be no end to profundities;
Understanding the experience of experience, one does not attempt to master it;
One learns the oneness of unity, and in its oneness, yet the oneness becomes the experience.
<|endoftext|>
Knowing the art of walking is not doing it;
Knowing how to use your own body is not running it.
Knowing the art of using the body is not using the body.
Knowing how to use the body, it does not hurt your own body;
Knowing how to use the body, it does not injure other people's bodies.
Therefore, the sage knows the hidden, and does not see it;
He knows what is done and does not act;
He does what is required, yet does not rely on it.
To value one's teacher is not to rely on them in the least;
To value the outcome is to think it is forced;
To be stubborn is to have an influence that does not lead, and consequently, the student will not learn.
That is how the sage knows when he knows;
The refined person does not rely on such.

Knowing the art of speaking is not being understood.

He knows the problems that arise in himself and ignores them.
He knows when all conflicts have ceased and all need has ceased, and therefore it is he who manages to make it all end.
By giving credit to himself, he does not style himself as too good to be trusted.
He does not pretend to have insights.
By not underestimating his competence, he ensures that it does not meet with criticism

The leaders of old were well versed in the Tao
and never made a mistake,
If something can go wrong, they stop and repair
While knowledge is unknowing,
Still, through Tao they can expand their knowledge.
A path that goes nowhere is difficult to travel.
There are no plain steps to take:
No ladders to climb:
No rope to tie.
The leader is on the level;
The people are on the low.
The leaders let go of the unworthy
and there is trust.
Tao becomes a helping hand;
Tao nourishes, teaches, and advances.
Only for lack of trust,
Then it is unkind and manipulative.
The ways of old are lost wisdom,
And so are the means of Heaven's will.
<|endoftext|>
The old masters knew all about Tao but didn't practice it. If the Tao was too difficult to understand, they would not practice it. If the knowledge it gave was insufficient, it would never be used up. If someone did not trust their master, the people would not trust them. Leaders who do not trust the people need to be guarded carefully. The one who recognizes the natural Way is distinguished by people. Those who are leaders are respected and leaders have the ability to bring people with no faith. People are not taken as the object of a leader's trust.
<|endoftext|>
The master of the great age knew not Tao, and none can know him. If he were not dull, he would fail on his journey. The follower of Tao has not much learning, yet leaves no trace. He who does not trust his own ability, even a fool, is better ruled. The way of old masters seems far from the Way; they have no appearance, but there is no door, and no retainer. They would rather have no own mind, than not leave a refuge. Do not trust people with no trust; take the advantage of the fool. The Way of the old masters is lost and that is how things come into being.

Following Tao you have no need of words. Using words is the right way to have certainty, for when you know that certainty is the right way to handle it, you may act in a calm, orderly way.When you know the right way to do something, you keep that thing in harmony with all things.When you know that everything is in harmony with everything, there is no more danger of trouble.When you are able to anticipate the future, you know when to act and when to rest.Even if you are in perfect health, you know to do your utmost to keep your body and mind from getting old or sick. This ability of knowing when to rest and when to act, is called Tao. (Tao is on the Way of the Way and not that of folly). When Tao is absent or incomplete, it is inadequate in the Way, and makes things difficult in the Way.The best piece of equipment, the cart, is insufficient in the Way because it is a vehicle which, through the wheel, advances the Tao, which advances all beings. When a wise man works with Tao, he is like a cartmaster, and he uses the tools without resentment or disdain, while staying completely free from self-interest.He uses the tools with no impatience and no selfishness, which is the greatest wisdom. He is successful in everything, including himself, but he does so not because he is always successful, but because he only needs to be faithful. He cannot value a person as a thing, not because he is always without belief, but because he is always acting in the same manner as he should.Only a person's true self and the Tao are both useful. A person who values a teacher should treat a teacher with gratitude. A person who values a teacher should cherish his teacher as something precious.Only a person of faith and trust can distinguish the wise man as a person of faith, and the teacher as a teacher.

Practice subtleties, not words. Use the words only when you know it is the best method to go with the Way. What we think we know
Is a false mirror.
What we see is not the whole truth.
What we think we know is the sense of what's seen.
So do we see what is not the whole truth.
Understanding these two forces leads to the same objective:
to keep ourselves free from
interest in human beings
and from hate in the world.
Actions that are good enough
can be avoided by only slight effort.
Calculations that are formal
can only justify what is undesirable.
Calculations that are precise
can only make things worse.
Calculations that are violent
can only accomplish what is undesirable.
Calculation is for nothing when no one cares.
Hence, the wise leader acts as though he or she were a model citizen and so avoids unnecessary action.
A good example can only be found by averting your eyes and looking at the patterns inside the patterns.
To see the pattern and to ignore the things that shine from the light,
that is how to follow the inward path.

The wise person conceives of the mind as wise without knowledge, without knowledge without knowledge, in accordance with what he sees in Nature. What is so clearly distinct from wisdom is the state of that which is instinctive. Yes, this is not the ultimate state. Still, the mind in passing does not linger. It is tranquil, in accordance with its nature, which returns again to its original state.
That is why the sage, what he does in the world has no particular aim. He does nothing which he does not wish to do. He takes action which is calculated to benefit and benefit and benefit. He dispenses with inaction.

If you think that you know everything about a certain person
You have no idea what you've got.
If you know something, you don't keep it to yourself.
If you keep something, you need it a lot.
Calculation makes things go wrong.
Wrong doing causes people to live without integrity.
Good things look like that, too,
But they don't know what they're missing.
If you can't keep that to yourself,
You might as well be not in touch at all.
So, if you're in touch
You must see the clarity of simplicity.

What it can't do is achieve anything.
Tao is what you need, but you can learn from it.

He who dares to put his trust in riches and treasures,
Their treasures being then lost to him;
Thus all things are abandoned;
And then only (his) original wholeness remains intact.
He knows his virtue and self-command;
His virtue unifies and unifies;
His self-command perishes;
And when he has forgotten that (self-command), then he loses his original wholeness,
And is again, as a plutocrat, dependent on others for his survival.
Wherefore he who knows not the self-command of the Self,
Must be content to conform himself to a mixture of the self-command of others.
The most essential thing (in the world) is not to know virtue;
But only what contains what is lost.
To know one's true self (the Tao) takes time and effort.
By faith in the Tao, others can be trusted.
