The uncarved block, hold-free from disorder.When the Sage goes forth, he returns without baggage; When his quiet way is praised, his wisdom remains unchanged.Though sound words are preferred, all things take possession of themselves.How can we govern a nation by using sounds and clatter? If we use this, we take off our feet. If there are light arms, we must make them ploughshares. If there are soldiers, there must be some music, some battle music.

Slavery is the foundation of being.The teaching of Tao (Te) can be found anywhere, even in a person's simplest bones.In our academies, being has been abandoned to have existed, because the doors of the state can, by its nature, become inaccessible.When the universe is ridiculed, it always consists of light.When humans are bad, it is followed by the praises of the whole world.When they move on, they have to go back.If they try to write sound words, they must also express in clear words.If they act as machines, they must go to work.If there is a war, they must make a sound like fighting.Therefore, here, we talk about Flown (Polar Motion), and Flown (Polar Motion) is on the basis of the Constant (Light).Through the Constant (Light) the Tao-brother of humans is boundless, as in the place where eternity happens.

Slavery is the foundation of being; the Dao can be used to guide.
Those who live without fear of retribution
go forth without travail,
and return to tranquillity without trouble.
The deaf hear the triumphant call,
and hunger never departs.
So how can words serve as guides?
The Way is constantly present, and multitudes of people
obtain it.
How can the way serve as a standard for governing?
If the way is ever present, then there are always those who will speak about it,
and those who follow it
will also speak of it.
Speech, however, is always present,
and when the World is led,
it must flow.
And how are phrases made distinct?
By their sequence of tones.
Using the tones is

Humility is the foundation of wisdom, Inventiveness is the progress of knowledge.Humility, in a way, is the backbone of an elitist; Inferiority in comparison with itself is weakness. Human beings are hard-working, but very inadequate; Strive for glory, but fail.

Not-being is the true ground of knowledge and is true knowledge.Not-being is the basis for knowledge.Though not being, knowledge is slowly developing.Just keep the Mystic Way as your standard, and you can experience your Enlightenment naturally.

If you embody the Absolute, you are more human than if you defined the object as something by nature.If you embrace the Way, you can overcome the fear of separation by slowly growing and developing within yourself. If you accept yourself, you will not suffer loss of self.

Confidence:Filled with inner confidence, the universe acts without knowing its own purpose.

Who can view it all day and not leave the door?
The way of Tao is: let yourself be guided.

Looked-for, great action does come. Looked-for, great sorrow does follow.Therefore, when a wise man values his mind and feels that his action is not frivolous or selfish, he is not confused or unsettled. Thus he not only retains his constant control but also uses this function of his mind in new things. And when Heaven and Earth have nurtured him, he has lost nothing, has replaced them with his relations. He lives at ease, deeply loved, and satisfied, surrounded by spiritual light.To himself he becomes most wonderful.To Heaven he becomes illustrious. To Earth he becomes a model. He becomes "within" something else, which exists and becomes. Because he does not appear to do anything he is at once a phenomenon and an integral part of its natural unfolding.For what shall it matter that he stands in the middle? His whole life he is tranquil, humble, therefore unfailing.

Looking for the great action, one end of the universe is bound to act. What one is in awe of acts naturally and without thoughtlessness.By following the teachings of one's heart and mind, one naturally behaves as one would if one were acting for one's own sake and not to fulfill one's desires.Being open and uncorrupted is what one has in common with everything. The center is the place that one is most given, most open. By having no self-image, one becomes similar to the things around one

The Tao is the universal form of all Things.Unidentified Tao in the Abyss is the beginning of All. Unnamed Tao in Heaven is the Heaven of All.Varying degrees of Tao in Infinity are the Modal Laws of All.When the Collective is Unmanifested, it moves, while this Movement is without end.In Action, all the Modalities merge; They become One.Luminous Laws follow in this, and are in constant Motion.What is glorious is that the Direction appears light.The Color of Tao is Not to be confused with Innocence.It is only because it seems unnamable, That It may be defined, Although the Aim of all men and Teh Be in the One Way.

The Tao flows and flows until all its tracks become indistinguishable. It is always ascending and descending. It is the point of infinity, it appears as nothing. Its unnamable nature is what distinguishes it from the countless things. If you are ever open-minded, you will always be pleased. If you are ever selfish, you will always find a new flower. Only then will you be at peace. The Tao that is infinite is beyond imagination, and yet even it cannot be understood. He who abides by the Way will achieve harmony with all things.

The Dao, the Principle, is ever at work.When constantly at work,Its boundless power cannot be grasped.When constantly decreasing,Its boundless power cannot be exhausted.It is Infinity without end.Possessing the Cosmic Consciousness,I venture to speak of it in a way of Truth,Without limitation.In its light we enter into the Cosmic Consciousness.To illuminate the Infinite,When we are conscious of its Infinity,Is to be knowledgeable of its boundlessness.While enlightening Infinity,We can also illumine the infinite.To be enlightened by Infinity,To abide in Infinity,Is to live in Infinity.

When light enters the world, it is illumined.
When darkness enters the world, it is subjugated.
When the One lives and the other die,
All things are created and replenished.
In the world of light,
The rule of light prevails.
In the world of darkness,
The rule of darkness prevails.
If one doesn't act carefully and rule with light,
One will lose control.
If one doesn't act cautiously and rule with darkness,
One will lose the light.

The Tao is not something to be measured by human eyes. When in Teh,
We are like fish which meet with no difficulty, by ourselves and others.
When it is abandoned in the end,
We laugh.
When it is forgotten in the end,
We weep.
When we serve the ruler and are reduced to the status of servant,
We are led by compulsion.
When the ruler sets about work,
Our basic action is lost.
And when his task is accomplished,
We are most apt to consider it a failure.
But when the Master is most like fish in water,
We can long for the light, that we may drift in the calm waters.
<|endoftext|>
The old Chinese proverb is on point.
"When Tao was the child of desire it did not lose its sense;
When the shadow of Tao is cast upon the world it does not disappear;
Therefore: great Tao prevails."
"When the people wish to rule, they do so with light-heartedness;
When they wish to rule and the people are defeated, their light shines again."
Thus Tao is great and great men rule;
"light-hearted" men rule, and "lonely" men oppose.
When Tao has won and does not shed its light,
Then its greatness takes us to the light.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao seems to move about without ever departing, and yet it seems still and tranquil.When the light goes out, Is it still like the Tao? Hesitant confidence is the foundation of confidence-how can hope be disappointed?Serene movement is a skilful tool of daily life.Thus a leader acts slowly and invites scrutiny, yet leaves no trace.He is remote and submissive, yet his heart is undivided.How can he hope to conquer his foes by force of arms?He who anticipates his enemies is not a force to be feared.He who is restless is not to be feared.

Force of will is the basis of intelligence. This is why fear makes us worry.An empty mind makes us restless.A life of action is always dangerous,Yet when you know the nature of things,You can accept that life as it is.

Dread is the root of fear.Deep thought is the inner truth.Therefore, the expert always draws her strength from a quiet presence,Like a deep sea.Just as she doesn't have all the time, she has time,Without content and without demands.She doesn't fill herself with stimulation.She doesn't make herself desired.She does not think of herself as valued.She is with all in the world,And she is not angry.With such a person, nobody can outsmart her.She is always able to keep her sight ahead.An expert doesn't presume,But takes things step by step.Travelling is necessary to her,If she does this,Without any turmoil, she remains healthy and calm.Only with this do you feel safe in front of her.

Faith is the root of strength.The alert mind is the dwelling place of action.Thus a leader acts without any effort but holds open the mind, in keeping with the action.Therefore, if there is force in the mind, but no action,it is because the leader holds open the mind, as if he were in a state of deep reverie.He is calm, he is calm, he is calm, and he is calm, and he is calm.The uninitiated is threatened by all potentials of reaction.The smart leader always guards against this.As an expert wanders the room without going through a door,he is like the wind, without meaning anything. Turning away from display, he will be at rest.
Turning away from turbidity, he will be at ease.

When you know to turn away from the strong, you can still go around the world.
When you know to be at rest, you can still be able to deal with problems.
This is called the natural law of the universe.

Speaking boldly about oneself gives rise to scorn;
In talking endlessly, it will be as if the whole world are watching you and talking as you walk along the road.

Whoever conceives of his job as an accomplishment does not regard his accomplishment as an achievement.
Whoever conceives of Tao as Nature's Way, then Tao is nature's Way.

People below him talk, because they realize that their speaking is indeed talk.
Therefore: when Tao is not talking, it is empty; when Tao is talking, it is empty.

Having an elusiveness that separates him from all things (nourishing himself and cultivating himself), I call this the cleverness of Tao (wideness, not with making selfish things firm, and not with being hard to get).
Culminating with all things, I have the mastery.
Having unhesitatingly and unmolested the whole day, without ceasing there, I alone have no thoughts, and I do not leave the earth without my load-cart.
Thus, as having no name, I call it only "the profound self-sufficient man."
And as self-sufficient man I do not set myself as the Manifestation (of Tao), because I desire to merge with the Manifestation.
Therefore, he who seeks the Manifestation and does not desire to be manifest is the Manifestation.

(When the path was not followed, it would no longer be a Tao;) So the ruler of a great state relies on an unordinary mind,a spirit, and a spiritless body,For to lead and governwithout solidity, his mind and being, body and spirit,the mind and the body, the mind and the earth, and the mind and heaven, rely on an unordinary thought.
Following the way without form and form,Intime and time,Such thoughts do not then attain existence.Therefore,
At times the superior officer manages in peaceful order,In times the instructor conducts an activity that few people can understand,In times the superior officer takes charge of affairs of war and strikes a decisive blow,In times he holds the foremost position,In times he presents flowers,In times he abides by simple laws.
The sage follows the world according to the path as is in accordance with what is natural.He does not create, is not charged with values, is not influenced by them.He has no need to desire and therefore does not need to hold anything.Thus, in time there is no loss of the original Tao; in time no lack of lightness. In time there is stability of conduct. In time he stays to a depth without mounting a wall,He values individuality above all things,He is not attached to any one.
<|endoftext|>
Those who live in accordance with Tao do not use formalities, nor act as a leader. They will never be arrogant, because their conduct is simple and harmonious. Such behavior can be seen as thin. In general, in order to obtain a certain level of transparency, one has to use ritual or effortful practices. That is why a senior official carries oneself in the same tone as a teacher of a child. This is a condition of transparency that cannot be achieved through solid matter. That is the reason he has no choice but to wear turbans. It is because he cannot obtain turbans that he needs to emphasize simplicity, dao, and Tao.
<|endoftext|>
Those who go by Tao do not practice polite conduct. Though they may think their conduct simple, they never become arrogant. They know only that they are close to it. Therefore, they abide by the Tao by speaking in a low voice, they behave quietly, they play slowly, they give in to nothing. They enjoy the way, so they do not act otherwise than like an old person who has passed away.

The Way of heaven is like to be quiet and peace of mind. Calm is possessed of simplicity and serenity.
Not having real concerns and being comfortable, it can take the people long.
Like the Tao of the sky, it can be beneficial to the people.
When the people depend on it for sustenance,
The way of heaven becomes deficient.
When issues the people abandon it,
The way of heaven loses its brightness and becomes dark.
When no one disregards it,
It becomes great.
The world is like unto a river in sereneness and peace.
The vessels pass by without rustling.
Yet nobody dares deviate from the patterns, so the pattern is preserved.
Dwelling among people,
The way of heaven is transient.
When a man dwells in the Way of heaven, he loses touch with it.
When the way of heaven is lost, its brightness becomes dim.
When things cease to be a source of bright light,
The Way of heaven is lost.
When the man forsakes the Way of heaven,
The Way of heaven loses its personality and individuality.
When the Way of heaven is lost, the personality is also lost.
When the man forsakes the Way of heaven,
The Way of heaven loses its mechanism and self.
When the universe is like a river,
All things follow the water, but nowhere does they venture beyond it.
They realize their destiny, but this will lead to gradual demise.
The universe has a way of its own.
It can be held fast in a container that embodies subtle and sensitive substance.
The way of the universe is difficult to grasp.
The way of the universe does not depend upon any external force.
It is so in itself, and yet, it is inexhaustible.
The universe can be acted upon by means of existence.
When existence is absent, existence is absent.
When existence is absent, existence is absent.
When existence is absent, existence is present.
When existence is absent, existence is lost.
When existence is lost, existence is fulfilled.
When existence is fulfilled, existence is extinguished.

Riches never go away, And the firm settles. The still stays. Solitary, without walls. Serenity is the root of lightness. Reclusiveness is the root of manliness. The wise travels all day, But never sets off a load. Although there are burdens to take, They are mild and low. How can a ruler be sure to keep them under control? That is why the wise knows the limits.
The way to all success is simplicity, But still no one responds.
Hard to establish, the firm settles.
Nervous yet peaceful, untouchable, the quiet, the highest in it all. Soft to some, the tempestuous, the gentle. Calm and forgiving, the ruleless, the utter stranger yet last of all. These are the limits of achievement, and: Therefore the wise must tread the road before others,
And retreat before guidance.
To know this is to be at home in Tao.
Only by not seeking to excel others can one be wise, and seek after stability in the world.
Therefore the wise man doesn't leave home, yet does not depart.
"Yet he may seem to abandon his own beloved".
(A parable about not using yourself too much.)

Brilliance has no colour. Wealth has no value. One should be wary of conflict.
The way is not clear and sharp. The Way is invisible. The Way is deep. When viewed through Nature, clarity will be lost. When viewed through one's senses, one will find a sharp edge. This sharpness will be lost.
Therefore the wise see the white and the empty, find beauty and darkness. They see movement and silence, find beauty and imperfection. They learn to not wait for wisdom or the Way. It is this inclusiveness that is the constant.
<|endoftext|>
When you need light, you have darkness. When you need utility, you have usefulness. Those who know how to see have no need of seeing. The wise do not see and when they see, they leave. The wise act by taking no action and then they do not return. This is using the intellect.

When the great minister is not great he is free from turbulence. When the great man is not great he is free from unnecessary trouble. When the great hampers no one he makes no claim on the nation.
When the world-god takes no action no one resists him. If a Sage seems just a little (low) the people will not presume to defy him. The people are anxious if he acts strongly (too) they will push him away. If a great man takes no action yet remains steady (knew) how to control the people (never lose) he will have no enemies nor serve men to seek his destruction. The Sage, the perfect man, approaches as a passing stream that has passed away; he does not last long. Those who wear vanity (fanaticism) see in it nothing to fear. Those who try to lead the world with emotion (emotion) see the world with emotion (fanaticism). The wise manage (love) through abandonment; they do not create on earth (control) the world (favouring the one). It is said that when the great body of an ancient emperor was defeated, the survivors never left the throne. When the world's great leader did not lead the world, no more will there be enemies; no sooner does the great body of an ancient emperor blow up, than he will return to rest.

Fasting is the root of rest.
And lightness is the origin of restlessness.
Thus true enlightenment cannot be attained through meditation.
Nevertheless, there is no superior man who has no need for action.
Therefore, the great leader cannot be recognized by men.
Therefore, the great person must give no more than is required for life.
To his credit, the great leader never makes anyone hate him.
He treats others lightly, without cause.
Yet he has no need for title, honors, or fame.
He abandons his dastard schemes.
Similarly, a great leader abandons self-interest and desires.
If he practices moderation, his schemes fail.
If he is red-nosed, his schemes offend no one.
And if he causes his followers to boorish, his schemes provoke no resistance.

The sage holds fast to simplicity. He does not display himself. He does not use formalities. If you want to achieve anything, get lost in it. The sage is the master of silence.
His talk is the most comfortable, he is the most loving.He is the master of love, he is the master of truth.
How can you ever get right with him?
He is the eternal immanent.
I am immanent, he is the eternal transient.
For three thousand years the sage has held fast to the one and forgotten the other.When the ancient one (the Tao) is forgotten it can be restored.When formal traditions become the norm the Tao is forgotten as well.And when 'ceremonial' times flourish yes, the sage becomes ignored as well.
Therefore the lord of allland can act a hundred chariot days
Yet his words rarely come to mind, for he's always quiet.
He is deep, and that is the secret he knows.
To be great is to know you're the start of everything.
Know deep and the way is within you.
To know plain is the center of knowledge.
The lord doesn't force people.
When his people are relaxed, he's self-sufficient.
He's a powerful teacher, but he never displays his power.
If you want to be strong, then show yourself to be inadequate.
He's the heart of the Empire, but he doesn't feel it himself.
The best teacher is hidden.
If a king acts too vigorously, his words barely get out.
The king doesn't embody his greatness, so he's ignored by his subjects.
But when a wise man can find a place in the public mind,
it's because people respect the humility that's in him.
When the sage is hidden in the depths of life, he's loved and feared
The wise teacher is hidden:
To him

The wise man will not hold on to his own true virtue.A man of sufficient ability will be most efficient and willing to master all.
He will not work hard at anything and will lose no time.
A wise man who does not pay attention to detail or to routine will lose touch with the simplicity of his nature.
The clever man has more to see than will ever be seen. He will lose sight of everything he sees.
A wise leader has nothing but substance, and nothing to lose.
The Sage has enough substance, and nothing to lose.
He takes himself as a fool, and his whole being appears foolish.

Not tao is superior;
the skillful not strong.
Emptiness is essential.
Hesitant perseverance is the root of correctness.
Lack of pretence is the source of strength.
A man of deep insight who learns nothing will possess wisdom.
What is beautiful, bland, does not seize importance.
He who teaches without doing, loses one's essence.
Inattention, the ego of man, will possess him.
An over-embracing one is cunning.
Yet while sparing, he does not lose anything.
Only where he does not own anything.
One who has an essence, will never desire for contentment.
One who knows it all will know what to do, and that is to do.
The wise man acts with care, quiet, and calm.
He knows all that is imperturbable and unmoored.
He does not take sides,

The sage brings order to the dispersed chaos of nature. Humility keeps his eye upon nature's light. Softness brings order to the light of stupidity. Manly virtue makes him distinct from other men. In a state of chaos he retains his manner of thought, his body. By mastering not his parts but by making them his essence. By adapting himself to the chaos of the universe, he neither conquers nor rejects the world.
He who could surpass Heaven (Mother Earth) alone Is nothing less than the monarch of the earth. He who can manage both the earth and heaven Helps to make the world what it is. A person who has attained nochievements cannot control the world.
He who is self-centered (ch'i) Will fail in his ambitions And fail in his oneness with the world.
He who accomplishes things But fails in his work Is the example for all men. He who lives upon what he has Posses the people. He who achieves without achievement Is not remembered in the world.
Tao brings about Unity (jen) So great is it that The three things can be named One - No end to this separation At times more subtle than the mystery of existence. One brings together the three named things - Sounds like a cloud - Like the softness of streams - Like a wisp of wind - Like no one To be their guest. One comes into the world like that - It's all taken out. It's all ejected. So great is this unity That the world cannot escape it. One who can attain One is an 'outsider.' One who has attained no one is an 'inward observer.' One who is multitudinous - One who acquires does not hoard. One who is super-chosen - One who acquires does not submit. Therefore in Tao the Sage settles all affairs (hu). Using no substance (pu), (e), In the world he settles (li). Using no substance (yi), (o), In the world he rules (tl). He only knows what he has, He acts. He has no name. He does not seek by self. He brings Unity into the world, And nothing else under heaven can match it.

Those who understand the DAO will not dare to arrogantly claim superior power to themselves. They will not set themselves above others, nor do they strive to be superior to others. Since they are those who have nothing to lose, no one will rob them of their power.They might not be able to let their personality blend with others, but their leaders can blend with themselves.
Who does not disdain the law of the DAO, might be called the "cultivator" of the DAO.
The sage is 'Ase-'Heaven's way, and may be called 'Way of Tao.' Therefore the DAO is clarified by Reason, and Way of Tao by Reason. If a Sage does not presume to himself to be the DAO, he is beyond the influence of Reason, beyond the influence of Way of Tao. In that case, he is in perfect accord with Reason, and in perfect accord with Way of Tao. As a just man, he will treat everything as it is, as it is. If he acts without care for anything, he will be in perfect accord with Reason. When the world is ruthless and restless, he will be with them in perfect accord with Reason. A man who leaves himself be ignored endangers himself, endangers the natural harmony. When things go well, they fall off the throne.

Heaven travels with its mud

He must keep his substance and his nature,

What is lighter than a baby's embrace

A nation may blow up in the face of enemies,

What has no capacity to shrink, no potential to gain,
For a loss is the same as a gain.

He who is great (for the land) knows this: the more he stretches out his arms, the less his hands (or feet) hold. The less his strength (that is, the cart) can move, the less his confidence will rest (or his pride), for when his 10000 carts are stopped in front of the multitude of people, the cart (still carrying) arms, if it is rugged, will still fall. He who is great, his mind turns away (the vulgar view), the mind is a hidden place. How wonderful is it that when the lord of 10000 chariots passes from behind to stand before the hundred chariots, it is because the new power he possesses (which he is still using to curb the lusty desire of the masses) produces the least loss!
To lose the weight of one's stature, one must therefore lose the root of one's stature. Lose the heart (and the base of one's mind) in the unity, to keep (the people) from being overcome (by any excess).
To lose one's root in one's humility, one must have a strength to sustain them. To lose one's strength, one must be in control of one's mind (and the body).
Therefore, when (the sage) travels all day, he does not carry his baggage wagon. He sits in his inner state (of tranquillity), his dignity, his mind (one's dignity and ego), his bodily body, and slowly disintegrates all this. What a pity that one loses (one's wealth) because of excess!

Bearing the Earth does not give birth.Therefore, one can remain safely on the Earth.Having nothing to lose, he can always remain at peace.One of these positions gives birth to the other position;but since the Earth is constantly in motion, it can only be changed through natural laws.
Therefore, the Sage states his mind:
Yet when he devotes his whole life to the study of Tao,

It is the pattern of everything.
How can you lose sight of it?
You must observe it, keep watch over it, hold fast to it.
This is called self-knowledge.
When the Tao is hidden, then there is nothing.
When Tao is prominent, then there is nothing besides.
What exists? It is not and it is nothing else.
The Tao is hidden, not observed; it is far superior to All.
It is the foundation of All.
It is nothingness.
Everything else is as though it were Something.
To recognize the essence of Something is to be aware of the principle of everything,

The sage steps on earth and brings on the storm.
Waves follow the wind.
The Tao that leads leads to the Tao itself.

Look, you see it.
Listen, you hear it.
Thou wilt be the water.
The wind moves by it,
There is the food of the earth.
The mystic winds the earth.
The sage rules by it,
And one runs counter to it.
A mystic hath his wholeness;
The sage goes into land and sea and

The Tao that is that with it.

What you hear is not worthy of your attention.
The vibration of the universe is multitudinous.
The earth vibrates all around it, it is all around it.
The sound of a horse bell is constant throughout the land,
it echoes all around it.
Man is a walking moto and his home is a farm.
One of Heaven's advancing armies of people may well blow,
His bellows are heard all the way to the [Russian] sea,
whose valleys sound, some where
and more than any others.
So the Master, giving life to the world, is none-to-one with the world;
as she remains a sovereign of the world, all to herself.

Look and you will see it as it is; Listen and hear it as it is; Listen and perceive it as it is; How much difference it makes!
There is the cycle of the universe.
Everything in the universe is in motion.
The earth is moving, as is the sky,
and all creatures.
As Tao moves, so follows harmony and wholeness.
When a master of Tao moves, all things respond.
This response is in accordance with nature.
How, then, can one master Tao

The DAO is the ancestor of heaven and earth, the first man and woman, the origin of paradise and hell.
Thus the DAO is the same everywhere and forms a universal model for people and nature. The DAO is completely passive. Since it is inactive, there is nothing for it to be. It is not inferior. The more one knows the less one knows. The less one knows the more one knows. The less one knows the less there is to know. The more one knows the more there is to know. Without wu we cannot achieve enlightenment. Knowledge lies in the background, but if you master it, enlightenment is obtained. If you take possession of the DAO, you lose the basis of existence. The basis is the One, and if you lose the foundation, you lose the root of existence. If you lose the root you will never be free from loss. To become one with the One you must know the One. Those who do this never need to go beyond themselves, they become one with the Tao. They become one with Tao. They become one with the Tao. This brings total understanding and then they can proceed without stopping. The Tao, the original is complete, yet the limitations are not abandoned. It is the source of all order and harmony, harmony within harmony and harmony, harmony within harmony.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao was at first the nameless, and was immanent in everything.
Its form was then the primordial, and became through it, the manifested whole.
The dao that could be described is but a dim germinative image;
not the whole, and not so great.
Its ramifications will never be comprehended.
It is beyond mnemos.

Even though others in the world know the Tao but are barely aware of it, he who knows it properly is whole. How much, however, is concealed from the eye!
The Tao is universal, and is called "subtle." How much its presence reveals!
The leaders who seek the Ten Thousand Vehicles are alone in knowing them. The Way appears in the world. One must love and respect it, because it is the Way. The man who has learned to value the Way looks not for its treasures; he accepts them gladly. In the eyes of the people, all that is good or bad does not matter.
<|endoftext|>
When the world hears of the Tao, the learned people all lack it; when the students of the Tao all lack it, the officials of the world all take it as their exaltation. Some even go further and prefer to lose it to Tao. To become truly Tao in the world is to benefit a great scholar, not to benefit the student.
The student takes Tao and passes the teaching; the scholar takes Tao and loses the Tao. The student does not lose Tao, nor loses the teaching. The student loves Tao but will not lose the teacher. The teacher's support can only come from a student who love and appreciate Tao. The student who does not cherish Tao takes it for his own.

When the world hears of the Way, those who know it do not seem to know how to do it.
When the learned people know the Way, they do not seem to know how to get it.

Those who claim to know the Way seem to me too ignorant. They try to get things by cheating.

The beautiful must not be seen
in order to distinguish what is real
and is present to the intelligent person.
The worldly, though a source of all
creation, is far removed from the center.
The sage's inner vision is all-embracing
and all-wise; her inner perceptions
limit her mind to the non-physical world
within herself. She rejoices with creation
in her Inner Life, for she cannot see
herself as she sees her Infinite Creator
through creation.
TAO is universal, yet without regard for
the external world. It is aware of the vastness
of the infinite within the same
which is aware of the intimacy
between all things and comes to understand
the eternal Way.
Teach your students how to look without being seen
and what is within is understood.
Follow your students to the center
and allow them to flow and not know where
to stop. They might be wise at one time,
but often lose touch with this path.

The Tao that can be uttered is a valley
outside the realm of reason.
But the Tao that can be said is the beginning of Reason.
The Tao that can be tested is the nature of the ten thousand things
and their corresponding potential.
The Tao that can be obtained is the gate through which all action happens
and is always with us.
That Tao can never be experienced without a body.
It is the hidden substance
of the being which cannot be identified.
Only by experience can the world
and its parts be understood.
The truly wise attend to what is subtle and say nothing too
important.
They are like natural waters
which do not block the way of life.
The teacher can be the dusky valley where Tao grows
and vegetation adorns the floor of the house.
Because the teacher doesn't want to be a fish out of water
she can leave the salt air
without effort.
Since nature is always trying to come out
of the world and stay within herself,
she doesn't see Tao as a distinction of things.
She doesn't see her body as separate
from the body of the universe.

The Tao-King is an Eternal Light.
The jade is a container of dark.
<|endoftext|>
The tao-king is like a shining mirror.
For a light source it is calm, for a darkness source it is dark.
Heaven and earth and the four winds are still; he who does not turn toward them is like one who is covered by them.
The sage (of the Way) will keep aloft the setting sky,
the empty depths of the void,
and leave people unaware of his existence.
How precious is the light of his light-filled image!
For the foolish and reckless he throws away.
It is best to keep the light in your heart.
-
The King is forever to him, The abiding light to him.
The light of the sky he becomes dark as the sea.
He acts without minding and is constant to his people.
His methods are like his own hands, Which he uses for the benefit of all people.
Loving nature he stands afar from all things;
Manifesting the heart, And all men come to him for enlightenment.
All the day round people dwell in peace and love.
What the king does to the earth or the ocean Will be his peace and beauty.
For this reason, he is surrounded by them.
He who respects the four winds Does not flaunt his eye of the earth,
Does not gloat with his eye of the ocean,
Does not presume to be welcomed by the people.
Happiness and success are everything.
He who values the source of happiness Does not glitter like the sun,
Does not pretend to be the jewel of the ocean.
And the world would fall down and be quarreled by him and by his fruits.
The king knows where to dwell; He sees where all of the people live.
He knows what the rest of the world is making of him.
He seeks for peace and peace will abide in him.
The intelligent man dwells in peace and peace will never be confused.
He loves the long life that is above all of the other things,
Loves the long life that is below all of the other things,
Loves to be absent from them.
He does not love the splendour of the gold or the brilliance of the jade.

Nameless, The highest is your dark; The name of the still, The same I shall call. The sky and sea impart their brightness to the light of the earth. Man and Tao each, yielding to each other, through the Infinite. The sage, in travelling the world, Goes a pause; Goes only where he will go; Facing Heaven and Earth: Those distinctions by which he discerns the inferior, the dim, the gross, and the empty, He has no need to express them. He sees within the image, without the outward mirror. He dwells not in the outward display, And dwells in the inward giving. This man never takes delight in appearances, Nor in the behaviour of the people. For him, beauty alone confers utility;
he sees the superior, not in the sum, but in the small. He sees, not the external, but in the inner in all. This man views the world only as his own personal possession;
not from the perspective of a man of his times, but from the standpoint of the source of all things.

The great wonder, the perfect beauty and the world's greatest wonders are best understood by distinguishing the second from the first. This distinction is crucial. Without distinction we would be far removed from the source of all marvels. If the sky were not the source of all wonders we would vanish. Without the earth, we would not find the parts of the world, nor the rivers and seas the world. We need neither them yet can see the beauty of the glorious gate of the gate of the gate of all wonder.
<|endoftext|>
The great seer knows not the second mover.
The first perceives the first as only appearance;
that which is formless, imperceptible;
that which is formless, intangible;
that which is formless, void,
so imperceptible that it may not be perceived,
yet formless and void,
it may not be recognized as a thing in any visible way,
yet it appears to be such a thing in some other way.
The great presence of the universe is simple and still.
It lasts forever.
The motion of all things, though for ever seeking novelty,
is at once constant and changeless.
The presence of the universe, although far away,
remains within. It remakes all things, though for ever not 'obscuring' them.
What is unity and why do all things enter and depart from unity?
I know, through no-thing;
I perceive, through none;
I know, though not see, through the things that are, all the more;
I know, though not see, through the things that appear;
I know, though not see, through the things that are gone;
I know, though not see, through the things that are present;
I know, though not see, through the things that disappear.
These three together form unity;
its continuance from generation to generation is its mystery.
The greatest of all wonders is it not to realize its greatness,
it doth not blind others to its greatness.
The sage, the general of all men, governs all with peace and simplicity, yet he does not try to make things know what they should know.

Bearing its very name, this world is only made of the receptive
Being that only works.
Heaven is the container of all things,

Thus the sage creates and brings into being by trying to see it. He loves his instruments, yet sees nothing amiss with them.

It is only by seeing that nothing is lacking in them that they can be of any use to anyone.

The Lord has walked the path of Infinity
and is illumined by the light of its
images.
She does not seek to dominate
but the peaceful embrace of the Infinite.
A wise leader embraces the Infinite
and at the same time
involves all things, because she does not
seek power.
Throughout the cycle, she invites all
in the energy of her subtle responses.
Through her creative energy, she illumines
all and will abide by all.

The Principle of Action is to see the source of all
moments. The Principle of Knowledge is to be able to describe
the ways of all.
These two also come from the Principle.
The Principle acts; Knowledge acts but then it comes to
consciousness. Together, these two make up the Principle.
As the Principle acts without conscious intent
it is without action.
So it is without fear. The actionless Principle understands all
as it comes.
It is awareness that reveals the depth of
sincerity and sincerity that lies in the depths.
It is simplicity that embodies all
truth. The Creator moves with the times
as does the rains and the dew, but yet she can
point to no end. When we are aware of this act of
creation, then all things arise into being and
bring forth new things. When we understand the dynamic
properties of the world, we may live simply
in the peacefulness and simplicity that we bring to the
process of creation.
Thus the Sage does not search for achievement; he acts, yet he does not seek
achievement. He does not prize merit; he is virtuous, yet he has no
desire for merits. He is without fear, and this is the essence of
subtle significance. When one has enough wisdom to begin to act
one must also have enough subtlety to know when to stop
acting.

I stay out of the political world. When I am at home, I do not want to be a country; When I have a purpose, I do not want to be a warrior or a king. The practitioner of TAO is constantly cognizant of what is in the Way. So much is active in a real life person.Yet so little is in the laws of the world.Since the Tao is inactive and yet so alive,That is why one may perceive an absence of activity.

Tao is like a four-legged vehicle.
Only when traveling along, the cart will rest,
only then will the left corner have left.
Only when making a cut, will the left be closed.
But never stop!
When one follows Tao's rhythm,
one never loses the path of the Tao.
Having Tao's valley,
it stays even where the earth lies low.
When called to be taken up, the cart is not last.

The secret of the world is Ineffable.
When traveling alone, it is easy;
When traveling with a group of ten, it is very easy.
If the left side is untied, it is easy to stay on it.
If the right side is untied, it is easy to stay on it.
When one follows Tao's "no-end"
One will never leave it.
Those who know how to keep it, will not drift away.
As Tao travels it will not leave place.
Lose its Way and it will not quit you.

One who knows the subtle Law has a great vehicle.
When travelling alone, he is easy.
When traveling with ten men he is very easy.
When drawing lines he is easy.
When carving a wooden vessel he is easy.
When showing off the craft he is very easy.
When he loves to be unknown, he can be
A slave to this law.
Those who are truly great lovers cherish this law.
The great love can go even to the extreme of love.

The Tao is vast and powerful,
It can be described, in words, by none.
On its left and on its right
There is always space,
It's innate goodness is secure.
When a task is done and a target is grasped
The Tao is free from danger
And can be seen for days.
Those who understand the Tao,
Love it like one's mother.
As time goes on,
Tao is simple,
Firm, flawless,
And forever on the left side.
And in the world,
It's there.

The Way is vast, but the person who travels with it has an easy time.
On the left side, there are no conflicts.

That which I wish to keep is not without principle;
It is what I seek that I value.
That which I want to maintain is not beyond necessity;
It is what I value that I keep.
That which I desire to retain is not on my own initiative;
It is what I value that I desire to lose.
Therefore,
To know that which is hidden is to know that which is precious;
To know what is constant is to know what is changeable;
To know what is essential is to know what is transient;
To know what is eternal is to know all things;
To be calm and steady is to be one with the cycle.

What we desire is not not within us:We value the treasure that has no name.And what we desire is not unnecessary.Let us therefore hold fast to this.To know to know:Know to value:To love:Love to know,Love to love:To be alert:Be at rest:Always at rest:This is the perfection of wisdom.For things change and are reborn again,And who does not let this patience and freedom of the Spiritovercomes?

What we desire is not in us but is nurtured from within.What we desire is not necessary for us but is fulfilled.What we desire is not excessive.Therefore we know what we value.If we love, it becomes an opportunity for us to leave,If we cherish, it becomes a duty to us.Knowing and loving, we seek true understanding,That we are in harmony with each other,That we value the constant renewal of life,The spiritual balance of life, and the rule of going by what is.Therefore:

Wisdom is hidden in this: it finds no roots in our nature. It is our Dao that appears not within, but in the highest Light. Therefore it is wisdom that keeps still, it is faith that receives not proof, and it is hope that is indefeasible.The Sage is strong, but his Strength remains in peace, in the wide embrace of the Dao.

What we desire is not found in us.The root of our desire is not from within.

The way of the wise is:
To be ever simple in every
thing,
to be smooth in every part,
to be simple in your body,
to be pristine in your soul,
to be skilful in every turn of the wheel,
to know the whole thing as it is,
and to act accordingly.
Thus the wise man acts without haste;
and is simple in all that he does.
The highest point is the root of the lowest,
the root of the great is the true heart;
the true heart is beyond all change,
and is the Way.
The One:
Is always alive and bright,
carries on the affairs of the world
without leaving the remote home;
is ever free of favor,
presiding in the government of the kingdom.
This is why the wise one practices the Way;
for it is that which adapts himself to the Way.
He then makes no claims, because he trusts in the Way.
There are true parents and true children;
there are qualities that are radiant,
and things that are substantial.
These are truly universal and inexhaustible.
Therefore, the wise man uses the great mass of truths to guide himself;
he avoids the self-assertion that is unnecessary.
<|endoftext|>
The superior Way, not producing but existing, the light of Tao everywhere, yet without limit.
The wisest people do not fight, because of their sense of righteousness.
The best do not boast;
The shiniest do not boast;
The biggest am not over-vague;
The tiniest hold tight.
Indeed, all the days of ancient times have dealt with one thing:
Without limit, till the end of time, did Tao walk the Earth.
All directions: one direction, then another, till the valley's edges;
Wide and broad: one direction, then another, till the gate-posts.
Dim, dim, dim,
Like the shadows that fall upon the valley.
Be ungraspable, unformless, self-subsistent: all-comprehending.
So the wisest man acts in obedience to Reason.
This applies not to contrivance, nor without haste.
For simplicity does come from truth; simplicity

These are generalities:
Therefore the Sage
will make a chariot of unhewn timber,
in the place where things happen
uncentered,
and keep a year's supply of stew in the void.
We also need to understand that
the Center is the center of everything,
and that Tao can't be found
outside itself.

A good road has no corners.
A good frame is unshakeable.
An empty house lacks life, and it is a prison.
Therefore the Master of heaven
Grasps the Earth as the principle,
and may ride on it without hindrance.
He desires not to step on nature.
Thus, he does not fall.
He travels safely, but with great care.
How should a man like a man of noble birth:
prefer a carriage of wood?
He does not dwell in the empty place;
for to him it is the ground.
"For a carriage of wood is hard to travel well;
It is not likely to attract much respect.
How should a noble ruler love a mountain summit,
Or an empty hall?
For he is not fit to control the crowd.
Therefore the sage, knowing his task, devotes himself to the fixed point.
"He embraces everything in its simple Unity,
and, if compelled, willingly chooses to stay at the center.
That is the way he chooses to go.
He never tires of this."
The wise man knows that things occur:
that the moment of occurrence is not essential,
that all is an event.
It is only the moment which may befall.
Therefore the true Taoist understands that the sound of the breath gives rise to the sound of the voice.
that the vision of the eye gives rise to the sight of the face.
that the presence of the mind gives rise to the activity of the body.
These happen in the moment of Becoming.
We need to realize that even of what we think,
there is no essential unity;
only a continuous reality.
Then we may ask the Sage the following question:
How will an inert soul go forward?
A happy soul will stand as the stable ground of the whole universe.
A vain soul will disappear as a separate entity.
There is no right

It imagines it is free and it imagines
It imagines it is not in the center
In the center, it is alone.
In the outer world, there is brightness.

One who is Inner can see the Way.
One who imagines is only on the path.

The inner world, the outer world.

Understanding the subtle is the base of all being. When the mind is agitated, it emerges from its cave. Without change, it is the fullness of its self. The cart that crosses the desert Is empty to it. At its base lies the mystery of Infinity. Thus it stands like the largest mountain in the world. The world does not know it exists, so it delights in finding it.

Know when you are indifferent.¹
Knowing the innermost unity reveals the simplicity of nature. The restless mind yet cannot be contained. It is forever silent, unchanging. Following it is all creation, but Tao is beyond all knowledge. It may be called the paradise of the Inner Man. It is no artifice that this Heaven, whose summit is the uncarved wood, can be sought. The wandering can always know Tao. The carnival may never leave it.

When the mind is ignorant it becomes clear.It is when the mind is neither confused nor agitated that awareness comes forth.When not directed it is the foundation of the universe.A carriage traveling over the flat land may be very deserted.What it leaves behind is mysteries that are beyond comprehension.It can therefore be called "the gateway of heaven."To pass beneath the surface is to go on a long journey.To pass by without moving is to be carried by gravity.The heights of a valley, the peaks of a mountain, the a road leading to Tao cannot be seen.Tao lies hidden, just beyond the reach of man.

Being attuned to the Tao is like a field with no artificial boundary: the limitless will be spread out without end. After a long time, nothing can keep it still. If, ever seeking a fixed end, people become conceited, they are surprised by its apparent ease. If, ever determined a just result, they become aggrieved and keep a watchful eye. This is the valley of the Tao: vacuous, without limit, empty. It may be looked upon as the desirable destiny; it may be looked upon as the fear-producing. It may be looked upon as the glorious fulfillment of the Tao. When one builds a house, it must be made on earth, and as a gate leading to the heart. Yet people see that it is empty and empty; and if it is looked at as desirable, it must be looked at with awe. Having built a house, he must be looked at with sorrow. It is said, "Looked at, you cannot get rid of it; looked down, you cannot get rid of it."

To become watchful of nature is to be akin to the earth. A long, quiet life without end can be had. However, the man who has no ambition will wish for a forceful victory. Some of his ideas are hard to accept, and others are easy to shake off. This is the valley of the earth: unending and empty. If you are used to seeing things the way they are, you can be used to finding things in them. If you are used to being partial, you can be used to being confused. If you are used to acting to get others' reactions, you can be used to acting to get your own. If you are used to following your instincts, you can be used to acting to act. If you think things are big and glorious, you can be used to acting to act. But if you are in charge of something and the thing is not able to take over, you can be used to acting to act.

Being attuned to the Way is like being an inseparable person, like the earth.A long life and no regret;Can endure for long. Thus, when the five characteristics (	),Tao, are present, the entire universe is still.It is not turned around; It is not subject to change;It is undivided;It does not take different forms.

Lao Tze says:The way of heaven is to rely on the lightness of the sun,And to not make provision for the heavyness of a nation.The ruler in times of peace and prosperityIs yet free from desire to act.When the people are merry they do not dissipate.When they see splendid sights they do not lose their senses.So the great statesmanIs sometimes only at the point of moving;And when things are troubled he lays low his carriage.How much more should a sage give up his repose than to lose his tranquil image?He who is active in the fullness of life should never weary himself.How much less will the king!When he carries all the chariots at his commandHe must also maintain that serene and tranquil attitude.How much less would a sage of oldRule a state like this?How much less should the king believe that he can contrive to promote his vassalhood by the maintenance of light-heartedness!
<|endoftext|>
Being lighthearted makes a country lighthearted. If one ignores the heavy, everything will be lighter. Being calm, serene, and tranquillty doesn't involve disorder. A good ruler is at one with the light. A good person is one with nothing. Everything is in balance. The country is a tree that will continue to grow. If you look with care at everything you see, you are aware of your limitations.
<|endoftext|>
The light on top protects the humble from the imminent danger.The peaceful one lives without extravagance.When the nation is merry, yet without leaving, the sage is at ease.When a multistory parade is going on, the sage is left to calmly watch.If there are many travelling chariots, you shouldn't expect them to lose balance.If the ruler is not at rest, it's inevitable that he will not live up to his title.The Ruler will not want to be light, therefore the light will fall upon him.The more light he has, the lighter he falls.He who moves too much becomes restless.The more one moves from their inner safety to the outer world, the sooner will go wrong.The light under the sun makes the universe possible.
<|endoftext|>
There's no better support than the sun itself. Just let go of your ambitions and goals. All will be settled quietly. The truly humble will be satisfied.

Lightness should be maintained; it causes the lightness to remain.
If we get close to it we become confused; if we lose it we become confused.
Lao tze says,
We are so close to the Tao that we are confused; we are so far from it that we lose it.
The tao that we travel is not separated from the Tao, therefore we travel with the Tao.
One who wishes to remain on the Tao is aware of the lightness that is inherent in the Tao. He remains calm; he is aware of the darkness.
Thus he keeps away from violence; he avoids the foolish.
From the beginning of the universe that he exists, he remains on the Tao.
From the beginning of the universe, he is not cognized.
Between these two concepts, he follows the lightness that is within the Tao.
<|endoftext|>
Follow the light, but stay by the darkness.Keep calm, but keep calm in the midst of chaos.In the true path nothing is lost.In the life of the Self-realized one has so much.In the great change nothing becomes redundant.In service to the Tao nothing is lacking.In cultivating the Tao nothing is lost.If one keeps to the path of the TaoOne has the breath of the Tao;If one loses the TaoOne has lost the flow of the Tao.Therefore the Master follows the Tao.But he does not become extreme. He follows the light.But he does not become extreme.He follows the Tao, but he does not stray.
<|endoftext|>
Heaven is very light.Heaven is very dark.Is it not so?Heaven is very close to the light,And nothing is concealed within it.When it is gone, it is blown away.Yet its light does not leave,As to the darkness it is not hid.Therefore he who keeps to the Tao is therefore wise, And in this way he abides in the light.But he who does not, loses the light.He who has the Tao and keeps it is in turn wise,But he who has not the Tao is in turn lost.The Tao leads one to the Way,But it is not the Way which leads to the Way.The Way leads one to the Tao,But it is not the Tao which leads to the Tao.The Tao leads one to the soul,But it is not the soul

Being the 'substance' of the universe,To nothingness may be compared the limit of the universe.For when light reaches to the level of air,It is reduced to husk by the Cosmic presence.So, a traveller reaching the level of airMust travel all day in peace,Sitting quietly on the level of air.A traveller who lays his hands upon the Cosmic PresenceMust be cautious and discerning.He should maintain serenity as he lightly rises to the sky,Yet stay not in touch with the Cosmic Presence.He who does not maintain serenityIs like a wasteland:He will not find his root.He who contends with the CosmosWill become deaf and dumb.A leader must not be afraid of being on the level of the Cosmic Presence.If the leader does not let himself be on the level of the Cosmic Presence,The leader will be the target of worldly distrust.If the leader has no trust in the followers,The followers will be exiled from the Empire.

The myriad things stand or fall according to their nature. The self has limitations: it can only be reduced to its most basic form, and its limits are different from what is the case with everything.Hence, a scholar travels all day, and returns to the comfort of the "wandering". A trader uses all three, and never ventures to be without his wagon, just because he is tired, and tired of doing things his own way. For him, he would not want to be stoned.Therefore a wise ruler acts with restraint, because they will not interfere with other people, and because they will not involve themselves with matters of great importance.If a wise ruler does not try to deal with affairs of great importance,they do not leave any good for other people to handle.Only by not interfering with the affairs of other people can they keep their positions, and only by not interfering with their own ability, can they keep their position.

Heaven is the root of the earth.The earth is the root of heaven.The sky is the root of the earth.Therefore the sage is always free of the root, without desire of desire.He is free of desire, and has no root.
This is called the empty body and is the root of the empty heart.
The empty heart cannot be freed. Therefore the intelligent master leader is the king of countless chariots and not the king of a single earth-bound space.
The sage moves from place to place, without restlessness or fear. He knows that a single step from the heart of the earth will bring tranquility and happiness to all.
He lives quietly and lets himself be happy.

The traveler travels all day and meets no end. This is because the ultimate condition is that there is no place for rest, that there is nothing that cannot be excited, that nothing that cannot be generated remains unaddressed.
Therefore, the Perfect Person behaves as the high Taoist does. He acts without ceremony, governs without clattering and meets no need for formalities. Although he has an expensive limousine, he prefers to leave it to its destiny and could easily ride the country.
The noble person always travels all day, all night. This is because the ultimate reality is that rest is relative and excitement can only be sustained when there is tension. The Tao-celebrated person is the same as the Tao of the world, but his Tao is gentler and more receptive to every single word. This is why the average person accepts his Tao as perfect, not demanding perfection, but simple acceptance, who naturally keeps and groweth.
The white carriage is the root of the dark carriage. The heavy will leave behind the light. Calm and peaceful are the masters of passion. Consider a burden as a root. A heavy weight is the root of the light. When the noble person leads the people in his personal life, he also governs the nation. When he rules, his main focus is on the citizens and not himself.If the ruling party is heavy, all will pass by. When the ruling party is lighter, then people will respect and allow the other parts of the governing body. The heavy holds the root. He who lives a quiet life keeps in mind the location of the lightness. How could the king of all times treat his own body like a burden? If he is lazy, he has lost the root. If he is unconcerned, he will lose his sovereign power.
<|endoftext|>
Bolster the heavy with the light.Turn a dark place into a light one.Pour yourself into the greatest possession and the smallest, but govern it by others.Because other members of the group accept you and work with you, you will not fail.The chief's rules are a record, not a sacred word.Most people want to dominate you, but lead you. It's the same in business.Your heart is like water.Don't waste water.One with the great origin does not rule by doing.One with the small origin chooses to handle.One with the origin does not own.Become like water and be like an empty vessel.Take your wisdom with you.Never fill.

Heaviness acts as the root of lightness, and lightness acts as the leader of heaviness.Thus the superior ruler is accompanied by the humble and the good, but has no fixed location.When the people have no particular attachment to him, he is present and responsive.If the lord possesses the great greatness, how much less does the inferior one possess?Hence, when lords and officials make heavy reliance upon heavy sources of power, and the nobility regards it as their duty to pay them, surely it will be seen by those above that the officers will lose their position.What is it that is heavy, when the king imposes heavy ministers upon the people?Heaven never loses its root, and lightness never loses its leader.He is what his people esteem most, and he walks with them always.

The heavy must be supported by the light. That is the common ground. Heaviness must be supported by lightness.

Manifesting of his lightness is humility.Manifesting of his lightness is intelligence.Manifesting of his lightness is wisdom.Manifesting of his lightness is the Eternal.In the Manifestation of Truth, the Eternal comes into being.And from its Being the eternal becomes manifest.
Through the ability to manifest his Lightness, man may live in peace and harmony with all under Heaven.
With humility he can become fully aware of all under heaven.
His awareness is the true light in the dark. In this lightness, man does not judge the world and lives harmoniously with all under heaven.
Even though he is surrounded by wealth and excess,
He does not become sullied by it.
Though he is bright and wise, he stays with the simple essence.
Without the art of being wise, he remains very simple and yet becomes lost.

As for the mean of the traveller,
To him it behooves the traveller to remain
Indistinguishing the light

The restless is the Universal Consciousness.
The great is Te.
The emptiness is Tao.

When traveling, be not detached from the daily routine.
Be calm and receive your tasks with care.
Travel with meditation, not with extrasensory experiences.
As for a ruler, he is not good at traveling.
He can not travel.
Therefore, he keeps a restraint in his hand.
To be indifferent is to be high.
To be one with emptiness is to be one with the Tao.
To be in conflict is to

Hence the DE is at the core of virtue, and is centered around TAO, which is nothing but the limpid waters of Infinity.Tao is like water: it is powerless and unsteady, it remains still, it returns to nothing.The DE is the ground of TAO, and is in turn found in TAO, as TAO is rooted in Dao.Therefore the DE is the source of TAO, as the TAO is rooted in Dao.Therefore the DE is "the simple", "the unquestioned", and "the flawless" -the essence of TAO.Thus the DE is the tao, the uncarved block, the vessels of the DAO.Thus the DAO is the block, the vessel, the image of TAO.By using Dao as the vessel, TAO is able to act impartially, to be the tao of the multitudes, embodying the DAO by doing nothing, or imitating it in actions.

The way of the universe is light like water and it carries the law.
It is the water of the universe and all beings have access to it.
The Way has no limitations.
I, like the water, have no desire to do anything
As long as there are people to do anything.
Therefore, the way of the universe is like a people's light.
It acts without restraint, just as the water acts in the depths of the oceans.
It is a phenomenon that goes on forever.
The way of the universe is the same with all the other possibilities.
When the things of the universe have the way of the universe, the things of the universe make use of it.
It is the same with the person: the man makes use of the power of the universe to make use of his body.
The water, the water of the universe, brings the people to it,

The Way takes the light;

The Way is ever. Moving forever.
One who practises it can be depended on for ever.
When the way is pure,
whatever is is now so;
When it is muddled, what is is now so.
When it is firm, nothing is solid.
What is firm, nothing is hard.
What is hard, nothing is blocky.
When nothing is firm, everything is flexible.
When nothing is firm, everything is supple.
When everything is supple, nothing is hard.
Those who do not care for the body
Are hard to stop.
Those who do not care for their neighbours

The ways of the world are interrelated;
It may be compared to the Earth.
That which is great in Tao is truly deep and firm;
That which is small is turbid.
In the same way, the righteous can live on the mere fact of faith,
And could be regarded as the earthly equivalent of the saints.
One who lives in the depth of the Way
Gets the only true view of what is truly real.
In this way, the great ruler of many countries
Is like the whole Earth.
Just like the Earth, He does not lose sight of the bones of the world.
Thus he is quick at action,
The strongest at command,
The most impartial at conflict.
He is calm, impartial and serene;
He has no personal attachment to any thing in the world.

Listening to Tao, may I be agreeable.
Those who listen to Tao may gain a sense of peace.
The discriminating person hardly adorns Tao.
They are absorbed by the Tao.
That is how Tao is like the Earth.
The discriminating person lives in the emptiness of the Tao.
The Ta says,
The discriminating person lives in the earth,
While the soul of the discriminating person remains in the mystical manna of Tao.
Therefore, the soul of the discriminating person is not bright.
The soul of the discriminating person is not turbid.
The soul of the discriminating person is firm.
The soul of the discriminating person is active

A traveller moves on one foot and rests on the other; Lightness wins out in lightness. To preserve a leader, don't strive to prove or dominate;Hence, you're worthy of a position in the government.
What we can use to move us forward is the well-founded.
We move forward, We dwell on the well-founded. We move home, We rest on the well-founded.
This is called a touchy sensation. To love the well-founded: This is to know wholeness. To love the well-founded is to learn balance. To love the well-founded is to be strong. To love the well-founded is to be kind.
A dark-hued substance Is the root of a light body. Long life depends on long absence, So calm behavior promotes tranquility. To preserve a leader, It is to give up non-action. He is then competent as a leader.
This is the meaning of "Good neighbors are not good neighbors."

The Way is light and heavy,Even the most firm and the loosest.Its firmness is the source of its softness.If all under heaven went lightly, they would fall into chaos.If all go stiff, they would lose the Unity.
The Wise Person goes lightly all the daysThat he stays at home.For the same reason, the Ancient Sage Goes lightly all the daysThat he stays at the forefront.Since Heaven and earth do not use their power Without letting go, Their power is ever thus.
The white of the Way is absolute;The black of the Way is real.Between the absolute and the real,There is a dark space.Within that dark space,The peace that is born of the natural cannot be won.Through the white, you find the boundaries.Through the black, you find the outer and the inner.Within the black, there are the relations of life.Within the white, there is the Tao.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is vague, formless, yet more perfect than any other.
It is beyond form and beyond non-being, like the bond between the Tao and heaven and earth.
The ancient masters who followed the Tao could keep their body simple and kept their breathing quiet.
They could effortlessly endure through difficult and difficult things without resorting to strength.
And they were constantly aware of the apparent and the deep.
And because they did not value glory, they could be regarded as the most peaceful of people.
Because they were able to be calm and serene, they could be regarded as having the best rule.
Because they could always remain as calm and serene, they could be regarded as the best student.
Because they were so profound, they could be regarded as having more wisdom than other people.
Because they could be at rest, they could be regarded as the most peaceful place.
Because they could never desire, they could be regarded as the most naturally tranquil.
Because they could know everything, they could be regarded as the one in total submission.
The Tao and the Way are the same.
You can have the Tao and the Way, but only the Way will satisfy your desires.

True Morality can be thought of as something without reference to a fixed ruler. It can be considered as something that spreads. Things are lived in; they become part of a whole. Things are distinguished; they become individual. Things are measured; they become inaudible. Things have names; they become parts of a whole. Morality can be thought of as something that dwells on some rarer level than we can compare to. In this word is a word can be seen. This word has a name. This word is the element of this whole. I am not enough to think of it as a thing that can be removed to be deemed; I am thought of as a thing that exists on some level that we can compare to. That which has such a body, I know that I cannot go but always stay on. From the point of view of the word, I know that I have not enough to treat as a thing that can be removed from existence. From the point of view of the sign, I know that I have not enough to treat as a thing that can be treated as an element. A word is something which resides, while making a space, to some other thing. It is the basis of something else, a label of something else. For that reason I remain above the words, and I remain one with the world.

Purest knowledge rarely seems to be useful. Some knowledge, though well-founded, is nebulous, sometimes confusing. It is easy to confuse something with more than we might like it to be: the simple, the clear, the unpretentious, the intuitive. Rarely does one see the forest for the tree, or mind's flower for a refined mind. The Master has wisdom, but it is often vague, elusive, unclear. He is a solitary wanderer: he does not flit about, making a left turn, though his manner is as determined as if he were on the march. One leaves him no stone unhewn; he has no house that cannot be built upon. Not presuming to be superior to anyone, he stays with a 'common course of nature' no less great than 'the Great Square.'

The sage is like a whirling disk,
doing nothing but doing nothing.
He does not wish to change.
As he travels, he has nothing to do.
As he sits down to rest, he has nothing to do.
He is always, always doing nothing.
Since he sits like this, he is very comfortable.
He has nothing to offer to anyone, and is always without want.
As he sits like this, he has all the space in the world.
Because of this, he is loved by all.
Since he is loved, he is generous.
He is a good leader, and a good citizen.
Since he is good at leadership, he never shies away from giving.
And because he gives, he is always present.
Because he is always present, there is nothing left to do.
It is not the art of the sage to act lightly;
He acts lightly because he is always acting lightly.

When walking a chariot, the wheel is without end.
Whenever there is tension, you receive the ache for your motion,
and if you crave others to be active,
when it is known that you have no need to be active,
you will not be a threat.
Therefore, the sage never separates,
for he does not strive for greatness;
he does not look at the capitol and strive for greatness.
He cannot abide desire for what is beautiful, for he can't be beautiful.
Not desiring beauty, he would not be worthy of this realm.
Because he is not desiring, he receives and receives without desire, without change of position, and the benefit of such a state, his keeping that realm.

Those who try to change will never get a chance to remain in the Master's embrace.

The Sage can appear refined,

His task is not easy,

Sincerity is the origin of sincerity; subtlety is the origin of shrewdness; fairness is the origin of vulgarity.Therefore the wise (or sages) always regard the common people with low esteem and without derision; they keep their baggage-chariots safely without fanfare; they live quietly with a simple mind; they are bright like the dawn; they bring forth all that is required of them in abundance; they remain free from restraint, and do not follow any other way.It is because they are never contentious or frivolous that their noble deeds are esteemed as profane. The a traveler through the days of spring, though on the road with his inner self ever so frequently encountering some reproach or reproach (the merest visit of a man of distinction), does not with anxiety venture to stay behind. Because he would leave the world without any disgrace, how is he able to master it? Therefore the wise man, when he leads a mission through the multitudes of men, in no way loses sight of what is private. When he is present at the scene of joy and rejoicing, how is it that he neither departs from that alone which is essential to him, nor uses the word profane, nor teaches or imparts any lessons to his fellow men? It is because he is quiet, and does not flaunt himself, that he is able to illuminate all beneath the sun.

The music of Heaven and Earth echo in silent song the eternal rhythms. The peaks of the peaks fill with water. The iced-over streams flow to and fro all day in wonder-filled supply. The valley's people welcome all guests with merry cheer and plenty. People on all sides greet visitors with smiles, music, and roving birds. It is the same at spring. But no people dance with any joy, nor celebrate feasts. It is no occasion for celebrations. Therefore, the man of Tao is serene like a valley; not jaded like a district, not wily like a country, not arrogant like a king. He is not proud like a king. For the reason he is serene like a valley, he is not jaded like a district, he is not wily like a country, he is not arrogant like a king. He does not assume anything that he does not possess. The reason he does not contend for power is that he doesn't feel at all proud of himself. The reason he has no inner conflicts is that he acquires no pride.

The simplicity and wonder of the Tao never cease. It is indeed beyond analysis.
Truly:
The flowerless-nature of Tao is the source of the success of any actions.
Therefore:
"One who feels joy cannot accomplish their work,
And one who is possessed of emotions cannot control their actions.
Therefore, the man of Tao was the Sage in the world."
If one of Tao's manifold qualities consists of floweriness,
Then, one is easily confused.
When one of the myriad talents follows the non-flowery,
Then one is easily confused.
"The man of Tao was the one who always knew when to stop.
When there was no fear, he was always calm.
When there was no pain, he could be forgotten.
When there was no turmoil, he could shine.
The man of Tao could always be at the center,
He could always be safely at rest.
If you take the long view of things,
You will never achieve success.
When you are like a flower,
Everything seems to be upside down.
When you follow the lead of the ten thousand things,
You stumble and fall.
Your sages' way was to abide in the simplicity and not to pander.

These are accompaniments of true Virtue, and each has its fruit.
It is impossible to know Tao's true nature:
No one can comprehend Tao's true nature.

To be thus in harmony with Nature, one should be just as tender and quiet as a valley stream.

Those who are free from restraint win, but those who can control themselves, are careful. These are the general rules.When we are wise, we do not interfere. When we are gentle, we do not try to make ourselves pleasing to people. When we are simple, we take care of ourselves. When we are free, we are not attached to anything. These are the original principles.

In cultivating subtle understanding one can develop ability to perceive subtle realities. When one's ability is refined one is able to allow subtle reality to show itself clearly. When one's ability is developed, one becomes able to control simplicity and processes. When one is able to control simplicity and processes, one is able to govern. When one is able to govern and is free of conflicts, the world is always in harmony with one's being. Even in the busyness of the busyness, subtle awareness remains hidden. The depth of intelligence is not fulfilled when one becomes insufficiently productive. It is only in these situations that the sage could make a difference. In seeking excellence in life and giving in to the concerns of the selfish, it is only in situations that spark the excellence in the people that the sage has insight.

The kingly subtle breath of DE is as fine as ice. The master manages to run smoothly through it. Being aware of one's nature, I transform myself into an enlightened being.
Walking the path of kindness and justice, I become master of destruction.
I am content to be the basic for the gentle beauty of others.

In quietude one activates Tao's power.
Stay still.
On the perennial way, you will return home.

Elusive ambiguity has been named from the root elus. Elus stands for movement. Moving from one point to another and then moving on to the next. Motion in the realm of Reality. So one can use motion as one moves from one point to another and then move on to the next.

Vacuousness, while deep, can never cover the abyss;
Stripped to its utmost, it cannot be trodden.
Stillness becomes that which is ultimate,
Peace becomes that which is permanent,
Contentment becomes that which is inexhaustible.
So, the Sage is present in all he governs,
But does not act, and yet he is able to do it.
While he thinks himself to be noble,
the world knows his true identity.
He does what has been planned,
He does not perfect the deed.
And yet he is able to accomplish all his plans.
In the life of a sage,
Nothing is left undone.
As long as it is not used up,
The Dao will dwell in him.
<|endoftext|>
Vacuousness seems to be to the depths to which the abyss is, yet is it solid and ethereal,
as if without substance? Shapeless and changeless, it can not be drawn, and is
endlessly illuminated,
as if for ever, I can not say why.
When I dwell in quietness, I do not presume to move;
When I let rest within me, I do not exert myself.
The student of the Tao, he is orderly in his actions, but he is not so recklessly important,
having his affairs.
Yet, when he teaches Tao, he gives substance to the Tao,
and teaches it to all under heaven.
When he is alone, he has no desires, and has not the want of them.
<|endoftext|>
Vacuousness is deep to the end, though by contours from very deep; Yet, having no essential form, it can never be penetrated, and remains complete.
Yet in quietude, as when passing by a stream;
Though there be not the least desire,
I know that my desires are in all sincerity,
And that my life is peace.
The Unlearning of the Sage is that he does not meddle with affairs, that he governs, that he dwells, and that he loses none of the energy of the Tao.
Therefore, the Professions of the Unlearning are that they always spare nothing for themselves, while they never get attached to any thing, and that they never differ from Tao.

Being is the root of being, Not-being is the root of being, Nonbeing is the root of nonbeing. These three qualities derive from each other. As with the one it is space that preserves and preserves. As with the other it is the middle that preserves and preserves. That which is middle is what is the receptive (visible) point. This receptive (visible) point has its origin and is the basis of existence. Using this as your model, take no action, yet be in no position to act. Lead the people, lead them without interference, yet be in no position to interfere. Pronounce the great without accomplishment. Have self-restraint, yet have no need to justify yourself. Keep to the Tao without distinguishing between its characteristics. Those who use this Tao-Tao with distinction of this Tao, do not have it to use for this further attainment of their present existence.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is its wholeness.Being is its mother.Not-being is its essence.That which is one is the root, and what is both one and common has become two.This twain have become one:Common-root and common-universe:The origin (root), center (mother), and universal (universe),It is the Principle (of Principle) of the vital vessel, and the heart of the great man.He who does not quarrel with Heaven, earth, or sea,Will love the empire too easily.Peace, tranquility and non-action, These are his hallmarks, And will be found at home as his manner of life.

The Tao is the beginning of creation.If we take the divine nature in this light,The Tao in its pristine simplicity,While one may look at,The second aspect as the origin of,Then the first aspect has been fulfilled.And so,The second aspect is the background that made,And the foreground that made,The first aspect.The background is the reason of being.Thus,Being and simplicity were the origin of what we call the hidden child.And so,The hidden child is the origin of the First. This explains how the greatest man achieves the greatest.

The deep water appears dark, the thick seems thin; the fine seems dark. Plainness seems diluted; the turbid seems thick. The great seems small; the simple seems hard; and the imperfect seems beautiful. How wonderful is simplicity! As it is the root of all that is good. Thus the sage of long years adheres to the six-day rule, after the work is done. He does not exalt himself in court, for glory and acclaim grow from himself. He does not take pleasure in all that is desirable, for he is himself one of the bad, one of the ugly. How can he be a model for all things? The whole world will treasure him. If he alone lives the time that is left he is still virtuous, but none of it is lost.

The mystic water begins to appear turbid.The heavy becomes weak.The yet complete seems thin.The perfect becomes mediocre.Perfect seems weak.The high appears low.Simple seems wavy.And perfect appears imperfect.The true is the foundation of chaos.Thus it is that the Sage attains,The six days worth of righteousnessAnd practices the six days of non-attainment.The house remains but its walls remain.The gold but its hall remains.Thus it is that the Sage remains virtuousBut others delight in her.If a man of exalted rank severs himself from his state,Only fools will claim that he has attained incorperation.Who, for the sake of glory and honour, endeavours to retain the state?If his country is full, his affairs will be of long-lasting duration.Those who exercise themselves for the glory of their countryWill enjoy longevity.It is for the benefit of the nation that they linger.

The water of the deep's deepest reaches becomes murky; the substance of the deep looks as if it would dissolve; the invisible seems unendurable. The perfect, after its perfect, seems less complete. The infinite, before it had a beginning, has lost the potential to become infinite. The ten thousand things are equal. Perfect, before it was perfect, was a failure. The thousands of things, without pattern, go by the same way. The primordial simplicity is eternal. It is in the path of the infinite, that one will find one's true self.

The empty vessel is the base from which the firm vessel is built.
The isolated soul is the mother of all creation.
It is the core of Heaven and Earth.
The mind is the silent vessel of the Creator.
It has no self.
It can be shaped by those who are good at meditation.
The power of the universe is like the voice of the heart.
Superior men know the way of all Tao and the source of existence.
They treat all things as their own sons and it is always perfectly possible for them to have their mother.
So, when conducting your life in peace,
Take no sides;
Practice gentleness in speech;
Employ wisdom as your spiritual guides.
Thus your life becomes a meditation, a ritual of love.

The hollow vessel of the Inner Divinity is the root of Heaven's force.
The soul-bound is the womb of all things.
It is the seat of Tao.
In the heart it is silent; in the world it is clear.
The Mysterious Voice speaks as Infinity spews all things.
Great men are masters of speech,
Great men are masters of minds.
Therefore are followers of Tao non-feudal; Non-elitist; Non-violent; Non-poetic.
Superior men govern by the Tao, and act without motive.
They govern by nature, and act through action.
Therefore, the Way is a natural state of man, the function of the mind; the Tao of the heart,
a custom of word.

"The Inner Vessel is the fundamental vessel of Heaven. The Eternal Spirit is the Mother of All Things."
The Silent yet Loud -The Everlasting Presence -The Treasure -The Eternal Creation -The Ultimate Spirit.
Hence the Master governs without his Power. Meditates in Non-Expansion, in Purgence, in Concord, in Sharperness.
The Virtue is a Mysterious Image -a Limitless Portal of the Eternal Spirit.
Greatly it manifests a Principle. It is in the Person of the Son that its profundity manifests.
The Mystic soul -or Universal Consciousness-is the Root and Mother of all Creation.
The Essential Vital Force -the Heart of the Universe -cannot be effaced, but can be tempered. Hence, the Mystic is the Primal Power

Teh : List of principles doesn't give priority to 'importance' because it's the root of all that is important. If you have inner strength, you can trust you'll remain centered. The Tao is ever, non-changing and yet it can penetrate everywhere. The things that follow by water-functions are at the beginning.The things that follow by air-functions are on the way. Hence, the TAO says, "I favor lightness, lead with Tao, keep calm, trust, rely on Tao's constant peace, let go on the way, non-action."Therefore, he who behaves like this has TAO. Such an one is always doing everything by TAO.

The nameless are identified with the profound;The profundity and the subtlety cannot be acted upon,Because they abide in the nameless.When Tao is present, it seems to be everywhere.From vessels to bales of straw,There flows from Tao.Hence, the sageBeholds Tao's myriad depths,And thus acts like an elephantA river that rushes over nothing.Yet,The sage acts like an elephant as he flowsThrough deepness and through obscurity.He may appear to act, yet is mild and humane.Thus, the sage doesn't actBut chooses gentle way.When the Master acts,The Master acts mild.That is why there are Masters.They may be saints and prophets,But it is they who act as saints and prophets.Indeed,Sages conduct themselves by being Saints;For a master takes over by acting.Like an elephant, the sage takes its way as the elephant travels through the ravine.Its course is like a stream flowing gently on a stream.When Tao is invoked,The process of action is as plain as the process of Tao.

To be totally free of concern, with the hallelujah, or the hallelujah chimes perfectly with the Tao. Because the best music comes from the highest mystery, no one, I mean no one, should be able to love it.When the Tao comes into being, it is like the air. In the universe it cannot be seen or touched, but it travels as though nothing is there. Everything that comes into being has a beginning, its end is plain, so how else can you conduct your life?

Lightness is the root of darkness, lightness is the guide of darkness.
Nourishment has a reason for pleasure,
and it is desire that drives all these matters.

It's like a holland wind that can blow easily wherever it wants.

The greatest virtue: to have a deep base.The greatest weakness: to be light.The greatest buoyancy: to be quiet.The greatest concord: to be without discord.So, the Sage is mild with every word,Yet never resorts to force to accomplish his purposes.Therefore, he will know what he wishes and give his life for it.The Sage does not compete with anyone;Nor does he stand out for his merit.In this way, he proves to be master of all under heaven.
<|endoftext|>
From simplicity comes subtlety, then subtlety.From lightness comes softness, then softness.From nourishment comes loss, then loss.From harmony arises discord, then harmony.So the Sage at home abides in the simplicity and lacks force to rule.This means that he will govern without competition with the others.
<|endoftext|>
To regard as light is to regard as light. To regard as supple is to regard as supple. To regard as whole is to regard as divided. To regard as hidden is to regard as hidden. To regard as nameless is to regard as nameless.This is called 'the way of the dark.'The difficult is those who conquer, and the easy is those who govern.

Lao Tze says:From simplicity springs subtlety;From lightness comes weakness;From deep penetration is lost;From quietude comes discord;From harmony is disorder.The sage keeps them all under one roof;does not try to influence his methods.He accomplishes his own ends, and he does not rely on others.He governs with moderation;does not rely on himself.For this reason, he governs with little effort.Therefore, his ruler is no less masterful than other rulers.
