Hence, I alone can help to grow one's mind, to be freed from the false fears of ignorance, and the ill-conceived actions of men.
<|endoftext|>
Give up self-control. So you're free of the world's fears.
What does it mean
to be "free of the world's fears"?
If you were free of doubts, you would have no worries.
If you were free of doubt, you would be free of worries, too.
The Wise Person is like a gentle baby, who is unaware of her full potential.
Like a new-born babe, he has no mind. He is muddled like the sea, and for which no description can be found.
When I notice the signs, I don't know where to start.
Yet the new-born babe rolls on his back, not knowing what to do.
My mind is open to all things, but it has no choice. I try to be gentle, but I am strong. It is only by taking this passive stance that I can become clear and clear.
So, you can be calm and still and know what is right and what is wrong. You can always be happy. That's because you trust that, indeed, the universe is a good mom.
<|endoftext|>
Look, you see the foolish
But see no further ado!
And so you fall down and rest.
Yield to all that is sublime
And give out your nourishing breath.
And then calm down and rest.
It is the essence of Reason.
When it is not stirred,
It is perfect.
When it is stirred,
No more left undone!
Whatever is plain,
It acquires form.
What is in profundity,
It harmonizes.
If you look ahead, you see not far!
But as you rest there,
Your mind blossom.
When it has free time,
You will have no trouble.
The one who seizes brings;
But the one who takes preserves.
It is only when you retire,
When you enter rest
That you can be too much.
Use what is with you
And apply yourself to something else.
Release everything from your thoughts,
For so you can rest in the presence of the Dao.

To stay a step ahead of the crowd isn't daring, it's practising just enough to keep pace with the flock. There are situations where you'd better quit

Warmhither and bewildered, But fear nothing.
Not seeing nor hearing, Fear not.
Difficult without effort, Yet an understanding Virtue to look at.
Floating without gravity, Favour and intimacy with one's touch, This maddening to watch, Rather than to enjoy,
Yet not to abandon.
What a counter-example to us What is it like?
As if Heaven and Earth are murky and muddy, We want to stretch them.

Just go ahead, take everything as you wish. All will be left behind. It's no mystery to the Tao.

And avoid danger.' 'Not seeing, not hearing,
Will be able to keep from danger.' 'Difficult without effort,
And having insight to look at it,

What does it look like?
It looks like all oceans;
If the senses become exhausted,
Rehabilitate them.

The wise can keep ahead of the crowd.
<|endoftext|>
Keep ahead of others
Avoid worries.
<|endoftext|>
The sages are ahead of the crowd
They do not watch what other people are watching
Don't try to understand what other people are thinking
They are relaxed, comfortable, they are not concerned
That is, they are beyond doubt
They drift without the mind
They disappear, they are unclear, they cannot be seen

When my mind is calm and free, everything is as calm as it is possible to be.
When my thoughts are clear and serene, everything is as calm as it can be.
When I am free of external need for companionship, everything is as serene and serene as it can be.
When I feel without ambition or need for attachments, everything is as tranquil and peaceful as it can be.
When my mind is filled with inner serenity and harmony, everything is as peaceful as it can be.
When my mind is open and free from need for reassurance, everything is as serene and harmonious as it can be.
When I remain unperturbed and free of emotion, everything is as serene and peaceful as it can be.
When my mind is centered on one objective, everything is as serene and harmonious as it can be.
What you need to know:
There are things that I am afraid of.
I am afraid of being afraid of them all.
Therefore, there are Things that I am afraid of.
I don't want to be afraid of them all.
I can be what I am afraid of.
What should I do with my fears?
Stay inside yourself.
The best Way to deal with worries is to say no to everything.
Stay inside yourself.
When your being is at peace, Nothing stays inside you.
This is the Way to protect yourself from the many fears.
Why should I care so much about these?
I have something that's at peace.
I'm able to live without worry.
These may be the reasons why I'm one with All Things.
|o|
Everyone feels scared, but I'm like an ordinary person who is scared of nothing at all.
My mind's stillness is as tranquil as a newborn child's.
I'm calm and tranquil, as if my mind has become perfectly still.
I don't know what's happening, so there's nothing I can do.
I seem to be listening to nothing and nothing I can say.
I'm like a piece of ice.
I feel a gentle energy washing through me.
Everything seems to be centered around me, but I'm unsettled and confused.
I have a mind free of good or bad.
I feel at peace and bliss.
The way I think and think makes no difference to me at all.
My mind is as open

The saying:
The sky is as big as it is,
The earth is one with it,
What the sky needs,
It cannot fulfill
The earth needs,
How much more the other way around!
Do you remember
He who has the brightest light
And the lightest heart?
To look at one another
Is to be muddled and confused.
Though they are different
I can see a common thread to them.
I am at peace,
as though renewing the seasons.
Like the lightness and brightness of the morning dew,
I roll about in peace.
As if born again to refresh the people,
I play the part of the common soldier,
in loyal defense of the Inner Law.
<|endoftext|>
What sky is big enough for both it depends on who makes it.
What earth is one with it depends on who gives it.
What makes a thing bright also depends on whose light it gives.
Heaven and Earth are, however, barely different.
How much darkness I am not aware!
This dark is my light.
Heaven and Earth depend on me, but I am different from them.
I see their light more clearly than those who follow darkness.
Although I dwell in the dark I am not dark.
I seem to exist without beginning or end.
I seem to be one with the earth,
and I do not divide myself.
I seem to be without desire,
and I seem to be the void of Heaven and Earth.
Their light I am not aware of.
That light is what I see.
My darkness I am not aware of.
This darkness I am aware of.
I am still without movement, and I know nothing.
I know nothing, therefore I can move nothing.
I do not know movement, therefore I can remain free.
I know nothing, therefore I know everything.
This is the relation of the Way to Nature.
<|endoftext|>
You have learnt from what your ancestor knew
from that which is furthest beyond what humans understand
Those things are what they are without intent
how the light gives birth to them
but the light that follows the darkness can never be explained
yes one may feel one is a part of the light or the darkness
it doesn't matter how bright it seems

The wise man has no vision; He can see what is not there. He knows what is there but cannot allow his mind to be impacted by it.The sagacious man sees the great questions but cannot allow his mind to become distracted. The good man has intuitive insight into the great questions, but he cannot allow his mind to become distracted. The foolish man has intuitive insight, yet cannot let his mind be distracted. So,the wise one is simple, dark, void. The others are bright, clear, formless. The other ones are varied, vivid, life and movement. The others are big.The others are small. The wise one prefers to be supple like water in the sea and plain, and gentle like a newborn babe, like the clear waters.Even though there are many different coloured the wise one remains white. He prefers to drift quietly like a dust cloud, like the ocean.Because he has no mind to discard his natural state he stays in the realm of the immaterial, the undivided, without attraction and without goal.

I aim at good and reject evil, like the Principle; And for that reason I am chosen by those with the most knowledge (of men), while the less great are rejected by others.
Follow this:
The good (in) a man are the things he detests, the bad the things he detests. Things that be hated, the mind is beyond. What is good is compared with not-being; What is not-being is compared with desire. And in considering what is what, what is different from each other. But in judging among things, compare them. By these measures the mind remains open, and the mind doesn't become confused.
<|endoftext|>
Should the people of the land abandon the pursuit of righteousness and seek righteousness for themselves, will they lose their minds, become like infants who need to be fed?
Things that the people fear should they fail to be in accordance with what they think is best, would appear like blemishes on their imaginations, notwithstanding that the reason for it is obvious.
Those who receive the noble Way are indeed people of light-heartedness and don't care about their purity, yet their imaginations are enlightened in accordance with the Truth.
Even their minds are very bright, so much so that they don't see the boundary of darkness.
That's why they are simple and to the point.
The things they fear are less than what they dread. Things that cause fear they must abandon. For that reason the things that the people love (in the Manifest Truth) are also worthy of love.
Accepting the true, one won't be rejected by it. That's why being sincere is the best way to keep one's life unspoiled.
Not loving is how one lives to relish life.
<|endoftext|>
Should the people of the land
Drop their considerations for righteousness and
Their concern for the light of humanity
And truly cease from fearlessness
Their minds would remain luminous
They would be free of stain
What that is the people would renounce, and
Their minds would be without blemish.
So, for them,
What is light and what is dark are
Nerves and temptations, though they may be
Not without their natural proclivities.
What is without fear, what is against,
Where that which's found, what's on it,
Those are concepts that the people

Of what fear should you keep the Wise Man?
Know that among the Things that are hurt by us:
Their leaders are things that excite fear.
Are they not greatly hurt?
If this were true, how could those with talent aim at action?
In vain is the mind of the Sage;
It seems to have become raw and lack,
'Tis only as if it had been hatched from a babe (having learnt to care for it).
How ignorant, therefore, are men.
What might be the difference between true and false?
What does it mean to be overstressed?
Could they also have been informed (about "where the boundary comes from?") ?
In vain do they long for refreshment,
Their ideas have been set in motion.
They are lucid as though the sky were plain.
Clear as if it were the deep sea.
Energetic as though it were the Power of the Infinite.
What does it mean to be stupid?
What difference does it make which holds fast to an uncorrupted heart?
This it will not give.
It is without fault, and may be entrusted to the Master.

To put away knowledge.
Those who know how to read the characters, are called prattists.
Only the one who uses an uncorrupted heart can bear learning.
The people are so small that they cannot see what is going on.
The people have no idea of the difference between a course of action and an ordinary course of action.
Things are so fickle that the professors cannot understand their point.
They may be intelligent, but ignorant.
Their minds are fogginess, but without passion.
It is the same with the sea.
It stretches all the time without being quiescent.
It is clear as the sea, not being cloudy.
It is inexhaustible, and dissipates quickly.
It is greatly responsible for agitation, but not ruling it.
People know that the middle way is not the truth, but the right way.
If they stop being things,
Their minds will calm.
They will be free from filth and dirt.
It is a marvelous state of mind.
The bright day, bright as the ocean.
It stretches all day without obstruction.
In its middle, it will never fail to become still.
It is insignificant

Though I take nourishment from the Principle (in the realm of living and non-living), I desire no matter in the world.
Therefore, without resort to taste or substance, without knowing any differentiation between good and evil, discriminating between good and evil (which might eventually be acknowledged by me) the world would never be disturbed.
The sage on seeing the error, is quite blunt; While the wise don't try to impress anyone.

The Universal Mother is eternal (being beyond the reach of all manifestations of life), and thus I am all-embracing.
The universal purity is without penetration.
It dwells in the recesses of minds that dissolve.
It accepts (things) and rejects (the limits of objects).
It laughs loudly (in their stupidity).
It has no desires, and has no desire for what is simple and solid.
The whole of creation dwells in its cauldron, but I am different from them in this.
I am without desire. I am simple in my attitude, and content with simplicity.
I am like a wide expanse of ocean waters.
I appear unfathomable, yet the ocean exists for me, and I am always there.
I have no self-interest, and I make no distinction between my sense interests and my worldly interests.
This is the infinite uncarved block (the emptiness of my mind).

The tall, high and beautiful are the fear of the people. When they are far away from the people and everyone knows about them, then there is something frightening. One must not consider everything so grand, beautiful and high. People should not be afraid of them.
The high is the fear of the low and the fear of the wise. The high is the fear of the low. The wise are afraid of the low.
Therefore, people are afraid of those above them.
People are afraid of the knowledge about them. People are afraid of the fear of the fear of the knowledge.
People are afraid of those who teach.
The people have different fears because they live in different environments. People live in different environments because the same fears should be avoided.
Therefore, the leader should be shy and respect people.
The leader should be kind to everyone.
The leader should be open to everyone.
The leader should be tolerant.
The leader should be free from desires.
The leader should be free from any kind of goals.
The leader should be still and be able to be subtle.
The leader should be open and be sure.
The leader should let go of his concerns.
The leader should be generous.
The leader should be free from desires.
The leader should not be self-centered.
The leader is simple.
The leader is imageless.
The leader is unfathomable.
The leader is unsophisticated.

The water of the world is going to take care of it. The things which have no life at all will gain by this. The water of the world, on the other hand, devotes itself to a mouthful of water, which requires a number of straws to drink. If you pour out this straw it won't last long.

Knowing nothing, embrace the One.
Attaining the One, lack can be discarded.
Regarding that which is not, being free of worldly concerns,
Being one with the One, let not be changed.
Accepting having no need of such, the world will cease to worry about you.
Accepting that which is needing, a desire for the world, the World will be without resolve, there will be those who acquire it.
Accepting this desire, that which cannot be obtained, there will be those who make it.
This desire which can not be acquired, those who will make it will have.
There is nothing which can be obtained in the world; therefore the dwelling of the One is this.
It is great. There is nothing to be looked at, hence are things that do not do not get looked at.
Those things that do not get looked at, there are people who destroy.
Those people who destroy, there will be those who, to be one with the Way, abandon this.
If you seek a place to dwell,
For to desire has its limits.
The lands beyond the seas
Are nourished, but a house of this wisdom
Is beyond the seas.
If you abandon the Self and rely on Tao
You will live in the reality of Infinity.
The land beyond the seas
Is the Earth.
If you depend on the Earth
You will not follow the Self.
Hence, to enjoy the Nature of Infinity
You should go to the myriad.
To look at the Self is to turn
To do ill to the Self.
To be ill with the Self
is to lose the Self.
To avoid any such, is to be at one with Infinity.

Forget learning and desire nothing shall remain. If a man seeketh after knowledge, he findeth it not; But the man with desire must, in so far as he have keen desire, Reckon his knowledge by a sight of dey. Thus knoweth it That doth nothing of its own.
(Twain wise men) Beheld each other and each other; for them, indeed, One was great, but the other lesser. Oh! how awe-inspiring their brightness! So who can ever be so dull? Whereof many men were bright! And yet how could they be dull? Who can expect what others do? By being humble and yielding He becomes one with All.
<|endoftext|>
So a wise man will sometimes smile and be sincere, and not seem to know who he is,And often does not seem to know what he is, though he has not yet been enlightened.Yet although the wise man knows that all is but a dream, and that all things are (a) finite entity, yet he holds no faith in things, and continues to do so, the sage will not leave his word.He is the same with all who are ignorant, and he sees that they too have things which can be grasped. When you know what others have learned, then you will understand yourself; you will therefore see that one has come from the other, and that the one is the other. We are only different in this:The wise one is rich, the ordinary one is poor. But the ordinary one, when in allness, stops.A wise man, being one with the world, knows how to let his way be made easy to all,and to avoid all difficulties. So I am one of the multitude of my people, so wise, and, alas, no different from the rest:I am a man of the world, and with no fear.As I alone can lead others. And for the whole world I hold nothing back.I am, indeed, the one like other men, and become the same as others.I am like a newborn child that finds itself brought up by the mother and does not know what is yet to come. For it can't stand it, and seeks rest. This is why I look young;I am making things up.So what others are, I am.So I am not alone, I find others all the same. The others just are

A gem of Tao.
Even the stupid don't get it.
Isn't the subtle a simple matter?
It's quite beautiful.
Everyone can see it's there.
They just don't see it in the same light.
That's what makes it so clever.

Some are dull,They're easily thrown off. They play with the carver's tools,But cannot use them.
Some are fast,They can't be taken by force.
Others are sharp,And easily put out of reach.
Others are quick,But cannot be grabbed.
Others have a purpose,And others are restless.
Others have ambitions,And others are untrustworthy.
Others have wisdom,And others are foolish.
Others are bright,And others are dull.
Others are clear,And others are murky.
Others have purpose,And others are empty.
They're stubborn like rocks.
Others try and guide.
Not me! I must follow my own energy.
It flows through everything!
All come and go,And I am left alone.
I choose my time carefully.
I roam.
I float without destination.
I am great and profound.
Everyone else wants to join them,But I am not different from other people.
I am full of wisdom,
And I am simple as mud.
Others are like a mirage,Like a dusty bed.
I am precious like snow.
Everyone walks by,And I don't notice the rest.
I shine like the sun,
and without name.
All are mysterious,
but I am like a pure rock.
The wind blows, and I cannot hear it.
All the while, I live with the earth itself,
keeping calm.
Therefore, the Sage is great and great.
Everyone else is lesser.
The sage is small and small.
The lesser sage is great.
The greater sage is small and ordinary.
The ordinary sage is great.
The ordinary is not worthy of being called great.
Therefore, the great is eternal.
This is why the Sage is great.
It is because of the great that the others are little.
Greatness is great; therefore it is excluded from being great.
Therefore, the great is eternal.
It is because of this that the great is neither great

the following words: Those who care for one another have flexibility; peace will gradually emerge; those that are at ease benefit each other. But peace is also real. The one who is at ease benefits others, and the one who is at ease does not have any cause for concern. So when one has peace, he is not agitated; when he is at ease, he is not annoyed. One who has depth of being benefits others, and one who is superficial

What does the Great Mother say?
"Attain freedom from desire, and you'll be able to remain free from fear."
"Attain Tao, and you will be at peace and joyfully complete everything."
"Attain health, and you will receive a beautiful body."
"Attain wealth, and you will not be unworthy."
"Attain success, and you will become great."
"Attain position, and you will have no fame."
"Attain wealth, and you will become miserable."
"Attain position, and you will die."
Attain the Great Mother, and you will not be defeated."
Therefore, when seeking with one's whole heart,
there is no fear.
When attempting something,
it is possible to accomplish.
When trying to please others,
you must be sincere.
When they all have it,
you must not have it.
When you are destitute,
you are not without help.
Because the universe is eternal,
all things can exist.
Therefore, you will not doubt yourself.
When you embrace the Tao,
your life will be limitless.
When you open the door of experience,
your destiny will be fulfilled.

The sage leaves nothing undone and produces everything;
the sage travels but neither leaves nor acquires.

He is differentiated from others, because he doesn't keep to a particular form of existence.

they seem at home among contentious people.
They turn their back and do not dwell upon the outcome.
They seem happy as one who finds himself content.
Others of the Way are materialistic.
They possess a great home, or carry on affairs for no profit.
They do not view the purpose in what they do.
To the point, they appear hardheaded.
Others seem thoughtless and foolhardy.
Others seem clever.
Others seem difficult to master.
Others seem self-centered.

Ten thousand spokes
Were the Reason why heaven and earth should play music
How subtly
They formed the tones of each note.
Alas, the only thing I can say
Is that, when I am rhapsodically merry,
I have music to match.
And there is nothing even good in my ten thousand ways.
I dare not be merry in others' company.
If I were to weep or make a show of surprise,
I should find myself alone and unknown.
Others weep as though the tears were for their grief.
Others make turbans of ill omen;
Others make statements;
Others are blunt,
Others are harsh;
Others are queer, and
Others are different.
And I am the same as I have always been
Before heaven and earth existed;
This is why I seem to be staying
While nothing more is happening.

Ten thousand spokes made the earth
Leads by being ten thousand spokes
Doing the work of the earth.
All these instruments
make a sound,
which none can sing.
All music
examines the sounds,
leading only to higher music
(to listen to music).
You find music,
music,
and you do not know it,
but there is still music.
If you were to be sad,
you would cry,
you would weep for all men.
If you were to be proud,
you would be a fool.
Music is non-art.
It is the only sound to understand.
That which can be learned,
I teach.
I alone am intelligent,
I alone am a student,
I alone am a lord,
I alone am different from everyone.
And because I am different,
I am nourished by the Mother.
I alone have the Mother's trust and knowledge.
I can learn and be great.
I alone am a guest.

The traveler should not try to find the Ten Thousand Things.
They are too manifold for any man to search them out.
One should forget about them, and return to the common ground.
Of all the objects which the travelers encounter, I find the dar ger least worth hunting for.
Mine are the têm am, the nameless, and the perenaxious.
The latter is detestable, and therefore I must not meet it.
For there is none better than me for asking of the gods -
"Where are those things I have seen, those that I have not?"
From what place can I learn to learn to see clearly?
Can I not draw my reason from the shadow of the door?
Of all the myriad places I seek no home,
while I alone am like one who has nowhere to call home.
I am different from all the myriad things.
I wander through the world.
I have not enough, and am content to be lost and alone.
I am different from the rest.
I am nourished by the ancient Mother.
Who gives life to the world.
No one finds a home to occupy
this deep life.

Whoever searches for the Deities does not find the true nature of All Things. One who does not search for the Truth is entranced by the world and cannot be set free from the constant awareness of his original nature. He searches for everything and does not come across a true object.
One who does not search for the Truth and avoids appearances will never be able to exist in the world of things.
When he finds nothing to search for he needs only to follow the signs of the Tao to see where the world has gone astray.
The Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao. One who does not want to be egocentric cannot be a true human being.
Those who do not want to be egocentric try to make others be egocentric. One who is egocentric is an eternal prison, and if the other party does not want to be egocentric,

Truly good is not virtuous; virtuous is not truly good.
Hence, what is right is not a condition for what is not right; what is good is not a condition for what is not good.
This is why,
Heaven and Earth are one. The universe is one, and so are the person and the state.
The separate is not destroyed but illumined.
All things have life and are born, but the sinner must be redeemed by the glorious woman who completes their perfect whole.
Therefore, he who loves the Tao and the Tao alone is not deluded; he has found the sweet secret of the Tao and the Tao alone.
In the days of old the ten thousand things were divided among themselves in confusion; all went back to the one root in which they had come. Now, the Tao alone begets a child, as we see, without matter, as far as we see, it brings them to full maturity; yet, beyond its muddy waters, it can always be seen. We have also [all] under our arms, so the Way and Tao embody our bodies. Yet they make their work possible. The wise man acts after his natural inclinations, yet he is enlightened; and this enlightened action leaves no trace.
The different types of bodies have different functions; the realm of Tao, with its myriad kinds of beings, provides the safe home for the spirit and the mind.
All things are born into their nurture, but they, because they differ from their source, are transformed. Therefore, the Way is the guide of the mind and the body; and so it brings man to maturity.
All his years he will forget, but he is a self-gratified man.
All his days he is given to divers adventures, but he has a permanent mind and heart.
In the Tao world is its standard; the body is its foundation. In the Heaven-and-Earth the standard is the mother; but for the individual it is the mother's body, and

There is a saying:
'Not all that is bright has a touch of darkness.'
This means
(Many may strive for a thing, but their striving never leads to completion.)
'True and false do not touch each other; these are 'Wondrous and dreadful.'
Therefore the sage embraces mystery, and views things as passing the eye. He knows they do not touch each other;
this is 'Tis like climbing a mountain on the morning dew.'
'Who knows the fear of the Never-Ending (jan), Who can return to one's original beginning?'

Those who worship the Way are wise, loving, and pure. Their minds are full of wonder, they are thrilled. They follow whatever they're looking for, however abstract it is. The truly simple people will have no limits, their minds are broad and expansive. The bright people will have a multitude of little lights. They are bright because they've lost their home. The hard-working people will have many things to work. They will have something to do, but for no reason. Their minds are murky and cloudy, their mind will be cold and repressed. If you look for bright things, you will see dim, thin people. Look at the true Masters, and you see a fool. The fool is ruled by the light. However bright the light, they are opaque. The soft and fast moving are slow and slow. If you're slow, you're fool. If you're quick, you're lucky. Don't look for cleverness in people.

Before the heavens were made The newborn babes came. They went to play with the dawning sun. The masters of the times honoured them with words and rules. As for words and rules, most people do not know them. They all flock to places as if going for a spring picnic. How dull and subdued! And when they become excited, as if regarding a great feast. How eager for excitement! In nature they do not have a good or a bad idea. It is as if they are ignorant of what's happening at all. They are of one with all under heaven. When I look at their behaviour I am tranquil, like a baby who is still learning to smile. Like a fool, as if I cannot see things clearly. I have much empty space in me, like a blank. They all have enough, and I alone am wretched. They all have what they need.

I am intoned like an infant who can't laugh. The middle road
A brief walk along it,
That is the real and the highest road.
When the winds and the rain wash it away,
There remains the gentle cleansing of it.
A riverbed of muddy water,
And yet, how gentle its cleansing!
When the people are merry,
The music is as pleasant as at the pond.
When the path is rugged,
It leaves a smooth surface;
All of you are sheltered.
If you have clear eyes,
There are smiles on everyone's face.
Those who trust you are as secure as if they had never been lost.
So they make their choice.
Can you see the valleys where there is neither light nor dark?
Can you remember the primeval times when life was simple, sweet, and alive?
Can you say with confidence:
That the places where even on the most serene day, there is no shadow,
When the sharpest, most profound mind arises to argue,
Makes it the most beautiful speech,
And when the loudest music arises,
When the most breathtaking views shine brightest
Can you see with your own eyes the valleys that fill the greatest heights with no lights or sound,
and how the valleys blend and become one?
Hence it is natural that a traveller
cannot walk all the way down the path;
So one must go all the way down it.
One must go all the way to the left to go through.
So one must take the left until the end.
This is called staying on the right, one that was once on the left.
This is the way to the true heart.
When following the Tao,
one can call it beyond sight.
Can one call it not seen?
Can one ask the ultimate question:
Are we all a group of stem leaves or a single flower in the midst of a great space?
Can we all be simple and mild?
Can we all be filled with smiles as if we were waiting for something?
Can we all be happy and content?
Can we all travel the way nature chooses?
So, yes, go all the way down.

Here is their sophistication:
intelligence and illumination,

Hence, if I am without depth, lightness suffices;

It is as when the brilliant flower shines out like a dim lantern.
It cannot be fully experienced.
One has to experience this beautiful flower with one's own eyes,

All truths have their dark sides,

For this reason, one must look at their beauty,
instead of expecting to find all the truth hidden in emptiness.

"Nonsense" and "bad" and "profound" are the worldly things, not the eternal and transcendent things, the uncarved wood of all genuine being, the cord that binds people and repels thieves and drives forth the winds.
Always comparing what you have with the claim that you must do something else.
When you see your accomplishments as taking place in your current life, you find it hard to see them as meaningful in their very existence.
What other substance is there in you? What other longing is there in your heart?
Look at other people.
Pursue your daily routines.
If you have no hobbies or interests, you alone appear to be the uninteresting.
Your heart is different from all others' hearts.
You have less wealth, but do more for the world than others.
The world seems more numerous than you.
There are more people than you.
You seem to be free from all relationships.
Your mind is the mind of the fool.
Ordinary people are correct.
You seem irrational.
The people around you all seem to be attached to the situation and are acting accordingly.
To be muddled like the sea,
your mind will slowly fall apart.
Give up your mere existence.
(In this way)
A limitless kindness becomes your body.

"Nonsense and bad" are earthly things, not the transcendent reality.
Therefore, the empty wood is superior to a person.
Although if one does not have enough there must be some pleasure for him/her
Nonsense and bad are neither personal nor precious.
In order to the universe, must the person have more than enough
To act as the realm. However, this is just a secondary matter.
Therefore,
Pour this one into the vessel
And see what comes.
Yes, it is just a piece of wood,
but know it has a whole.
It is a gift, a jewel to be used.
It is the jewel, the creator of everything.
From the depths of your heart, hear it.
From the depths of your heart, hear it calmly.

We value ourselves but lack empathy;
We value others but lack compassion;
We value the earth but lack foresight.
Therefore I want to
all seem to me like nameless savages:
Go about the world,
without purpose, having no goal;
Not exactly knowing what to do,
Will drift about like an orphaned child.
A nation eager for conflict;
My nation, dismayed at such turmoil.
I seem different from others,
for I value seeing the fine detail,
and pursuing different kinds of knowledge.
I live the life of a fool,
occupied with the many things.
Not having aspirations,
I alone seem innocent.
I am different from other people;
I am therefore without a master.
I am a wagering vessel,
watching the myriad creatures.
But the nation so utterly ignorant
I cherish as the saviour of all.
<|endoftext|>
We hold on to our own conceptions but lack that which should govern us. We cherish our own reasons but lack that which should govern us.
Thus, we regard the earth as nameless. We see the earth as nameless. We regard others as creatures, and not as things. Thus, we regard a great hubris as an inspired truth. We regard wisdom as great. And we regard no knowledge as the way to truth.
This is to be misguided; to act in the spirit of self. This is to be misguided; to act in the spirit of the ten thousand things. This is to be at variance with the order of the universe. This is to lead one to unreasonableness. This is to oppose things to their natural course. This is to oppose the best.

He who claims honour and glory and acclaims the heavenly body for what it is, will not be lord of them.
He who magnifies this on earth, or dwells in that of the ten thousand things, will not be the master of them.
If he deviates, he will find his covenants called into question.
The nation is so full of divinities, and they are not one with the sage;
The nation is so lordly in it, and they do not deem themselves that.
This is a willful adherence to an unrefined nature.

Respect not a great achievement,It can turn a sorrowful morning into one of rest.Indeed a great measure is to lose everything: not enough, and more, and less.By how much? Oh, hardly even a thing!Only few know how much, how few know how little. With a knowing eye one sees. Without much, there is nothing to see.Whole as the ocean, infinite as the wind, the present may seem dim to one, it seems obscure to another. But all else appears to him quite ordinary. That is because he has his mind set on his nourishment.

Though there are four great works, one does not like to follow the Way.Therefore the same cannot be said about "yes" and "no."As some three may suffice for a great effect, so can there be four that must not be said.Hence I describe the four as follows:Often excess, too much - That which leads to insufficient excess -That which comes before - That which is not sufficient - When alone - That which is the last to be recognized. My mind like the ocean, it is eternal. It is the same with the wind, yea, it is the same with the hundred things. With a quiet mind, the subjects can feel what is left undone, so I am quite alone here, Yet a multitude of men approach; While I, left alone, am even.I am alone in my mind, as if in the ocean; I seem as if in the wind; And no matter where I am, I am alone.

There are four things which are treasured and treasured not, for they make sorrow howl.
Those four there are in large measure of themselves; they are never too much of them.
If one treasured the least, it would become treasured of a hundred things.
So, a man who has too much of anything could be all that he wants.
My mind is pure and bright, having no prejudice.
I am at peace and very remote from the world.
I alone am like the sea, so remote from all that can go about,
yet my own mind may be the ocean;
thus also all I see and know may come back to me.

Tao is just, yet inadequate.
It cannot be grasped, yet never lost.
How is it different from what we fear?
What is not feared may be grasped;
What is feared may be gained.
The virtuous makes deeds;
The wicked makes words.
The virtuous takes from others,
The wicked takes from himself.
If a virtuous person abides by Tao,
He will not have to fear.
If a wicked person abides by Tao,
He will not have to fear.
If a virtuous person does not fear,
He is undisturbed.
If a virtuous person does not fear,
He is contentious.
The mind of a sage
is like that of an infant.
Loud and inquisitive, like air;
Impatient and chaotic, like the sea;
Very much like the desert.
People
endlessly overflow and explode;
One mind is like a single thread.
It is like the waves of the sea,
without a beginning, without a end.
It is the most mysterious, the most profound.
Ordinary people are bright.
I alone appear as an uncouth child.
And like an uncouth infant,
I am simple and simple-minded.
I resemble a hill beyond reckoning.
The people everywhere have their task to do,
And I alone am confused and uncouth.
I am different from ordinary people,

What is Tao is very weak.
It cannot be possessed.
It cannot be discarded.
That is why it is just!
It can be increased, greatly
It can be decreased, greatly
It can be improved, greatly
It can be diminished, greatly
It can be improved with great haste.
The virtuous person is very kind;
The wicked person is very prejudiced.
The virtuous person acts as a complement to the virtuous person,
The wicked person acts as a contrast to the virtuous person.
But, one who is a virtuous person acts out of kindness,
And the one who is a vicious person acts out of envy.
So, the virtuous person behaves with dignity;
The vicious person behaves with vulgarity.
The virtuous person respects his subjection.
He respects the subjection of the subject.
The virtuous person does not take advantage of his subject

Always hold to the Yin and you will not lose yourself
If you do not try to achieve the glory of success,
you will never succeed.
To be vain and over ambitious is a misfortune
If one is content with the external show,
they are quickly going to regret
Their greatness, their ability and ambition
is but ambition and vanity
Making one by selfish desire.
Desiring after material success,
one will soon miss it.
Those who achieve everything are like a drowning man
Living all by themselves,
yet always dying alone.
They all seem happy but they die alone.
Acting in the style of the masses,
one makes no claim to be someone else,
when self-worth comes after one's merit.
When others act according to one's own needs,
they feel inauthentic and unreal,
like filth and weeds in one's own house.
When one stays in the wilderness of desire for things,
it is impossible to remain content.
One who has fulfilled oneself becomes restless,
dying before he is even born.
Those who live the life of the earth
are simple and honest,
though lacking some of the luxuries,
one who acts in accordance with his will,
returns to being stubborn, proud and thievish.
If one keeps to the Tao and the soul,
one can never fall into the shadow of things,
Because there is no problem that can hinder one's growth.
Once one is free of desire,
then there is nothing one cannot have,
One who is not seeking will never be defeated.
The Wise Person should keep to this Tao,
and while pretending to be a foolish fool,
is free of the importance that is attached to the difference between right and wrong.
And is easily deluded.
To have one's life filled with joy, is to feel discontent.
Without joy, one cannot be happy, one is deluded.
To be in accord with the Tao is to be loyal and practical.
To act in accordance with that is to know when you are right and have the ability to stop someone who is wrong.
Always keep to the Tao
and therefore no one will do you harm.
The misfortunes of the strong often lie in that side.
The misfortunes of the weak are seldom to be taken lightly.

You must know how to hold your life, you must know how to know your location. That is how to rule your life. But you are not like the average people who take on their own affairs and go on without knowing when to stop and when to rest.
You know how to be serene, and you are not like the rest. Do you know how to be objective, not biased?
You live like a baby: neither hungry nor sad, neither angry nor sad. That is a lot for a lot of people to get so excited.
Being undisturbed, you don't need the world to sustain you.
The great leaders are no ordinary people,
because they are bright and sophisticated.
There is no difference between the bright and the dull.
Therefore, the wise are different from the average people.
They understand the reality.
They do not fool around with affairs.
They take care of their work without fuss.
By means of nature, by relying on the natural forces, they are the calm of the universe.

He who knows how to hold the life is one who knows how to know the place. He who knows how to know the place knows how to rest in that place, though it may be in a remote place; without fluttering for joy; without the arms' sway of nature. He knows how to be serene and restful, and yet he is not surprised by changes of climate, by the wavering of the earth; he takes joy in his mind's work, and yet he does not long for things. He knows how to be impartial and how to think how one ought to; for he does not show his mind to the world, and therefore he knows the full truth. The great leaders, on the contrary, have no end of cunning, no recklessness of daring, so that they could not become truly great, as they show no merit. Therefore, some people have too much and others have too little; some have great minds, others have rude instincts.

A man of action should know when he is at rest.
When he is at rest, nothing is possible to him.

Not one of them knows "yes", or "no".
The multitudes have desires to make a profit from this or that and fame in the eyes of the world.

People who are clever call themselves brilliant. People who are above all call themselves above-just. That is: The people of the World have different conceptions of "good" and "evil." What is the difference? Is there any value of this or that? The people of the World are all bright. They are all filled with awe. They are all like one in their actions and minds. People of the World are all doing something that will appear stupid and yes-good. Everything they have done and done things, is correct and just. Lao Tze says:A 'discontented person' is worthy to be dreadfully feared. It is foolishness that causes him to fear that.He who is having faith in something as opposed to fearing it will not succeed. The Tao being fulfilled, nothing remains but its endless activity. The ten thousand things dwell in it, pursuing it, taking it and serving it, but it alone makes itself truly its self.It does not purify itself by being good. Its person and act become blemishless, its behaviour and behaviour become sparkling. It does not exhibit itself to the world, yet because the world does not act, it sees things properly, it acts properly, and lays it down correctly.
The great te, as it were, cannot be rejected. It is itself, however, an accomplished thing.Infinitely diverse are the things within it, and therein it has no limitation. It multiplies like a net, and thereby completes its work of giving and receiving. It accomplishes its work without showing itself, and the return to its nature of its completion.
When the Sage is born he takes the form of a thorn. It is the thorn which is despised by him.He who loves and values the life in the hundred thousand things will never find fault with the thorn. It is an active flower that lays no claim to it.Only by enjoying it can be made useful, and as the flower it remains sterile, and never satisfies the desire for possession.Within the hundred thousand things there is something different from it, and it that different cannot attain to this otherness. In its life, it cannot be profaned; it takes hold of its lives, and gives them life.It thereby does no harm, so it never vexes its host.
When the Tao is born, it does not contain the ten thousand things. They will greatly injure it if they try

The wise is like unto men. He receives no favors. He is like the deserted multitude, that whom the myriad is to feed upon. The wise man attends to his own needs, and as no one else. He is discerning of the small things, as he attends to the great things.By this he is like a traveller on the high road, (being ignorant as one whose minds are confused), that is, he observes the ten thousand things but does not observe his own mind; he lays down his views, but no one else follows. For this reason the Wise Man sees the common good and is fair to others. He dispels the much-discussed things and he remains unperturbed. He puts an end to much talk, and he is a simpleton to the multitudes. This is the sign of a wise man: he embraces the great square, and keeps to the small round.
<|endoftext|>
The sage is like the people. He does not meet favourably and is not subject to envy.He dwells alone, cleans himself, and does not presume to be different from the multitude. The sage sees that it is easy to be confused, easy to delight, easy to become doubtful. If he did not see such things and would only observe the multitude, he would be lost in disorder and not aware of how far he went.If the sage viewed and saw nothing and could only observe the multitude,He would be a fool, and not wise, and the crowd would be his friends. This means he is cheerful and good-natured, and that he keeps to what is right. If he does not interfere but observes what is right,He has no rival; he will attain the high position and dwell at the centre of the crowd.
<|endoftext|>
The good man appears good, and has no desire to conform. The just man has little desire for belonging to a group and no desire to differ from the crowd. Both of them seek to stay alone; to guard themselves from any interference. They both delight in simplicity; they both do not see anything that is different. One observes what is seen, the other observes what is unseen. One observes what is different, the other observes what is common. They remain both impartial and impartial. One observes the common, the other the separate. They both look for the desirable, the other observes the undesirable. That is why they differ. One observes the desirable,

There is great beauty in conflict. The subtle in beauty. The profound in obscurity.Matter in matter. The wise man in conflict; The dull in ignorance.Tao in Tao;The Tao that is itself by its nature chaotic. Therefore,One who is wise, then, can live in harmony with nature; One who is intelligent, then, can understand nature; One who is able, then, can act intelligently; One who is benevolent, then, can feel compassion; One who is compassionate, then, can understand the myriad relationships; One who is a true wise man, then, can fulfill his purpose.<|endoftext|>
There is great beauty in conflict. The mysterious in obscurity.Mindful in emptiness.Rich in wholeness.A true man of purpose in conflict. The superficial in emptiness. The wise man of use in conflict. The impermanent in the Infinite. Therefore, the truly wise share in beauty. The truly wise are like the Stream of Life. The truly wise live like the River of Life.

The most brilliant beauty, so great, of a stillness, is opposed by the differentiations of the mysterious.
The highest note, so profound, so deep, may oppose by the differences of the bright.
Thus, the great man, who is worthy of recognition, will always oppose a profound man.
The humble man, as near as the obscurity of the level, will oppose by the difference of the bright.
The wise, an instrument of natures, oppose with conflict a multitude of instruments.
By the secret natures of the universe, the seemingly perfect is always opposing with the perfection of the average.
In the end, the purposeless are in conflict with the far-reaching; and the far-reaching are in conflict with the far-reaching.
Therefore, the optimist, who is of an impersonal nature, always opposes the natures of impersonal nature.
The optimist, who takes a transcendent subject, always clashes with the impersonal subject.
The happy one, who has enough and gets what he wants, always opposes the other extremes of the path.
Thus, he who is of action and not of reaction conforms to the one, and the bad one, the one, only.
The good man lives in conformity with the average, and the bad man lives in conflict with the extreme extremes.
He lives simply

I had no images of Tao's great flowering yet I seemed to have quite everything.
I am glad that my days are not spent in art or music
I am glad that I don't live in all-pervasive expectation
Is there a greater wealth than this?
This suggests to me that Tao can come back to us:
But my experience as a traveller is much like the experience of a child's.
Throughout the world, the things appear beautiful and amazing.
I dare not go about in the dark: the muddy ground is turbid as a muddy pond.
The multitudes appear to be very happy.
I dare not talk loudly; I dare not compete loudly.
I dare not observe distinctions; I dare not make distinctions.
I dare not be many-headed.
I dare not be whole.
Only because I desire to be a huge container does I seem to be empty.
I treasure the big Tao and am glad to share with others
These are great pleasures.
The Tao in me is like a lake in springtime.
I inhabit an abundance and am so profoundly nourished.
I am open to all things and am so profoundly enlightened.
I dwell wholly and am so profoundly alone.
My being contains the Tao, and thus is to be found.
I am glad to be me.

There are two kinds of respect,One that is treated with suspicion and disdainAnd another that is given respectful attention.By revelling in praise of the good and praising the bad, one becomes beloved by many.Such is the Dao of good fortune;Everyone recognizes the good, and welcomes others with kindness. When things are in confusion, they are animated with joyful exultation. This is love, but it has no special word. The good endures forever and yet it has no words; And if things are without order, they are nourished by all things. All things are in agreement, although they differ in significance, yet they delight in rejoicing. The Dao masters them all.Everyone respects them, and praises them. The good are worthy of praise, and therefore everyone treats them with praise. The good endure and never cease. The natural order is without words and end in unity.

What is praised as good goes to those who are despised. What is esteemed as good goes to those who are despised. What is loved as good goes to those who are hated. And what is loved as bad goes to those who are also hated. Therefore the Tao of Heaven and Earth is that which nourishes, and renews, and does not make use of. It has no name. Heaven and Earth holds fast to it, but does not label it. Earth honors it, but it does not claim credit. Heaven honors it, but does not boast of it. And even though the world does not know the Tao, it reflects itself. This is the reason why the universe has no name.

What is shown as good is to those who are looked at as bad, and what is looked at as good is to those who are looked at as not good. The wise man, however, does not devote himself to affairs of state. Though he may be just and good-humoured, he is not possessed by ambition to be grand; and he has hardly been given any occasion of merit by his superiors. He might be said to be so indifferent, so devoid of ambition, that he is so indifferent to this, that, being himself indifferent, he may be described as placid, unfeeling and unpretentious. The next higher may employ him, but he does not consider himself superior to them, and not after the former manner he is thus despised. The next may shine with glory, but he is alone; he is like one who has nothing to do, and walks about all day without moving. The next may appear to be splendidly coloured, but he has no handle to possess; he sits motionless and indifferent, having neither a thing to talk about nor an occasion to describe himself. It may be said that he has not even the smallest conception of his own individuality; he merely dwells on the common existence, and attends to his neighbors.

What is to be treasured is not for the purpose of treasure;
What is to be renounced is not for the purpose of renunciation;
What is to be successful is not to be feared.
What is to be despised is not to be loved;
What is to be desired is not to be feared.
If you can understand these three things and love them,
then you will never be troubled by
anything else.
For this reason, it is the mark of wise man to rule over others
for the purpose of nourishing them,
rather than for the purpose of ruling them.
But you will never be put to the use of more than your share

Rather, he just kind of is and enjoys it all himself, and some of the people seem really to have done well. In other words, it is just me but I am just a little off track and so I just have this sense of disinterest. It is just as well that I am just kind of in the background. But the genuine love will not turn its back on you;
And even if it turns its back on you,
you'll never leave them.
This is why it is said that he who enjoys life best

it is best that he be in the background.

What is the difference between good and evil? What is the difference between success and failure?Only by doing something means that the person's existence is preserved, or put at rest, and a person of universal utility can be created. One who is tolerant is no longer tolerant. One who takes pleasure has lost the pleasures of the heart. One who isn't aware of what others sense is no longer aware of what others sense. This is what happens to the wise person. He has no longer a sense of the way things are.He finds nothing to oppose. He can easily relish in the activities of others. He enjoys himself. He may be tranquil, full of energy. But even so he is indifferent to others' reactions. One of a simple, tranquil spirit is not neurotic. He finds many things so inviting, yet his heart is not one of being reserved. One of a refined heart never stretches himself to try to impress others. One of a refined heart finds harmony, harmony that the world enjoys, yet he knows it's by necessity what others reject.

When you master the Way of Tao, your mind becomes clear, your thoughtless, your fearless. In this way you gain longevity in your daily life and become like a newborn child. No worries, no worries, no worries. Every day you are free of desires. That is, you are content to be you.
Therefore, those with a higher capacity for clarity see all that happens without need for spectacles.
Those who are uneasy, confused and frightened are close to the Wise Person.
It is by contrast that the people find all their worries no trouble.
Their bright talent is serene.
Their keen wisdom is dull.

As a follower of the Tao, I am in harmony with all and am at peace with everything.
Tao is like the ocean,
It does not allow us to interfere,
Its waves are so gentle,
Its deep waters so full of surprises.
With all this,
Dao is very profound.
It is extremely deep.
It stretches out and endures forever.
Everybody is envious of it,
But it doesn't regard them that way.
It is like a vast distance
That reveals itself like a leaf.
Nobody can see it,
But it is as hidden as a valley
As it leaves but never comes back.
This is how Tao views everything:
It sees everything as it is,
And doesn't see anything that isn't there.
Everybody is just as generous as Tao's will be,
While Tao sees everybody as it is
And sees no contradiction.
What is the meaning of "everything is nothing"?
Is it really possible to be nothing?
Is it possible to be everything, forever?
If everything is without a purpose,
If everything is without a goal,
How can anything have a purpose?
If purpose is possible, how can everything be useless?
A person of great wisdom
Will not see distinctions,
Will not condemn the people
Because the world isn't of his mind.
He will win and lose without being agitated.

He doesn't try to control others,
Because he gives everything away.

I am fed by Tao and everything is for me,
But the people that feed me are not hostile.
The sea is calm and indifferent,
But a high wind is that of destiny.
I dwell in the sea and breathe the Tao.
I am the ocean of the Way and do not age.
Those that live the Way feel rejuvenated;
I dwell in that whirling whirlpool.
Those that live the way feel timeless,
I dwell in the restless wind.
Others feel art, taste and life. I feel alone.
I am cut off.
I am on the backfoot.
I have no roots to hum.
Life is an unlimited expanse
I have no end to live.

A man who is at the peak of his ability is at the peak of his fear.
A man who is at his lowest point is at the bottom of his fear.
For the two have exactly the same origin.
In this lesson, the example of the Sage is man and the world.
The example of the truly wise is time and not the sequence of events.
He never chooses, is without passion, desires, desires, or desires.
He is not desire-bound and wants nothing for himself.
He possesses more than enough to last him a lifetime.
He is the one whom the world, as one of the Sage's great works.
He is the creation of Tao's inexhaustible expanse.
He goes outside of time and he lives.
He is a small speck within the great expanse of Tao.

In the case of ten thousand things, It is best that I alone of them should take the leadership.
In the case of one thing, The one thing itself alone should lead the rest of them.
In the case of a small thing, The substantial itself alone will lead the rest of them.
In the case of a great thing, The substantial itself alone will lead the rest of them.
When I look for example in the world
In comparison with the masses I alone stay in the background
In comparison with the myriad things I alone appear
I alone inhabit the realm of nothingness
And am at the back of the vast expanse.
I have existed forever
Before anything happened,

People are clever, they are naturally clever.
When a multitude of clever people shows themselves,
they easily win over the people.
Where the multitude of clever people show themselves,
what do they think?
What the multitude of clever people has to gain?
What do the people fear?
How curious! How tranquil!
How inscrutable!
How confused!
All these people have enough;
I alone seem to be disordered,
like a baby who can't get its breath.
The multitude of people is calm,
I alone am unsettled,
as if I had no home.
The multitude of people are self-controlled,
I alone am reckless,
as if I had never left my original state.
Everyone is devoted, I alone seem to be maddening.
Everyone has something to say, I alone seem to have no answer.
Everyone has purpose, I alone seem foolish and drowsy.
Everyone has purpose, I alone seem to have purpose.
I am like the sea, and has no place for settling down.
The people are glorious, I alone seem destitute.
I alone seem confused.
All things are active, I alone am unsteady.
I am different from others, but content to be served by the Mother.
When she does not press me,
I can relax and enjoy the River.
<|endoftext|>
People of excessive cleverness
will respond with a "Yea,"
for (their) behavior is perfectly timed.
If their response is "Yea,"
What then?

What is the problem?

Where do people fear
to put themselves?
People are beyond help;
I alone am left out.
There is nothing to fear;
What is here to happen
is free.
What is here to happen
is settled.
These two
are differently timed;
The latter appears,
but only because it has no place to set its mark.
It is because it is absent that things are able to flourish.
These two
are complementary,
which I find inseparable.
Their expressions seem to contradict each other.
Thus,
There is as much to learn as there is to learn.

One can be a ruler and not possess great wisdom. One can be a ruler and not possess great insight. One can be a leader and not possess great saguteness. A child who has not learned how to smile a lot can be a leader. A worthy student who is not happy can be the leader. Thus wise and downhearted people are not many people, yet they are people of great benefit to the masses. The wise are simple in their views, yet many people have good ways of relating to them. Who lives the Tao and becomes a wise person is a perennial virtue. It's known as the Great Light. The Tao is also a great light, and to live in the light of it is to become a person of value. The Master is, in contrast to most people, who is not formal, yet he chooses to be illustrious. In contrast to most people, he is luminous, and others find him dull and artificial. In contrast to most people, he is resourceful, and he chooses to be outstanding. He is in contrast to most people, in contrast to other people, is amiable, and other people find him ill-tempered. Being known as that is because he values taking good care of himself, a benefit of staying in the Tao. One who doesn't seek it outside, and will not seek it outside himself, then has a secure center of being in the Tao.

While studying Dao diligently, One can find too much contentment. It would be better for him to contemplate the main point.

If I am an enlightened man, I am like a foolish child who does not know the difference between right and wrong.
A foolish child who is indifferent to the difference between right and wrong, Has no business to care.
If I am an ordinary person, I am restless, as if I have no home.

Let there be no division.
Thus we can overcome differences
between the desires of the one and the desires of the other.
What difference can there be?
Is not the quenching of desire an excitant.
For it is perfectly possible for desire to end by itself.
How then should a man wish to preserve his will?
He who would preserve his will must [know] that one who desires the one will lose it.
Knowing this, he will not resort to new forms of desire.
Knowing that he who has lost desire will lose the desire for the other,
will thereby obtain the desiring.
He who has lost desire, the desire for the other will not be his.
Therefore he who desires the One will not be surprised at being displeased with the other.
Therefore he who desires the other will not be a disappointment to others.
Therefore he will preserve the one without losing the other.
He who regards things as they are
in reality through the ten-thousand-fold mirror [will] not lose them.
If he regards things as they are,
he will therefore see clearly.
If he regards things as they appear
he will see the true source.
If he regards things as they are,
he will then get rid of what is lost.
Therefore the multitude who are enlightened [as regards the tao] will be preserved [by it].
Those who are impractical [as regards Tao] will be taken away [by it].
They who gain merit [as regards the Tao] will not be [able to gain it] [by it].
That is why they come here.

If self is gone, you have nothing.
Just as the Tao's help to this kind of [experiment]
Can help the illuminator.

The sage man does not make haste in learning to attain knowledge. For if he does he will be like a foolish man, and if he does not attain it, he will not be able to master it.Therefore, he is ready for anything that appears to him for danger; he is ready for anything that appears to him for danger; he loves what he loves; he is pleased with what he is pleased with; and he is sensitive to what he is sensitive to. In regard to good and evil he is unaffected. As for those who have a great treasure, he regards himself as outstanding; and he regards his wealth as outstanding. The Tao cannot be stated;
but what is beyond description is only a substantial reality.
The non-human being's living earth
is a valley of rivers and oceans.
On this earth there are people of a tolerant nature.
The human being has his place.
The homeless person is restless.
The world is full of life.
Yet people are contented.
<|endoftext|>
The truly beautiful is not beautiful;
The truly poor is not poor;
The truly complete is not complete;
The truly gentle is not gentle;
The truly unsophisticated is not intelligent.
Thus the sage does not talk,
And yet words can find the root.
That is because he recognizes that the sages are quiet beings.
<|endoftext|>
"The Way that can be told is never the true Way;The Way that can be told is not the true Way."
Wherever there is a river, there is a channel that moves water.
People live in the valley of the river, Which flows through valleys and valleys.
While there is the homeless and the destitute.
While there are abundance in a busy place.
Yet the sages of old
Who have always been peaceful and unpretentious,
Were simply silent and modest.
The Valley is full, and yet all is fine,
While its people are hungry, and yet content.
<|endoftext|>
Tao never runs counter to the Way, for it will never be contrary.
It does not seek to tingle, yet without being tingle.
It does not rush towards without cause, yet without being spurred by being.
It does not rush from without, yet without being put out.
It does not pounce, yet without being grabbed.
It does not make a show of force, yet without being fomented.
Therefore the sage is detached, like the ocean;
And leads people reluctantly, like the great celebrations.
To waste time, to rush about, is the way of the multitude.
The sage is free from all desire, but because of her quiet exterior, she is welcomed by all.

I have no aim.
Where there is light there is hope.
Is it not light for light's sake?
That is the beginning of wisdom.
The wise keeps to what is solid, keeps to where there is nothing and keeps to the light.

Not learning is the undoing of all learning.
To be ignorant is the distinguishing light of the mind.
To have a mind that is so different that it cannot be known, is to be ignorant.
To know that which is necessary to be cognized by the mind is to be informed.
To know that which cannot be cognized, is to be ignorant.
Thus men differ in what they are most dissatisfied with; and this will hardly be the case with those who, for the most part, take pleasure in their felicity and their food.
Filled with the activity of delight, and always seeking a new display,
Most people seem to hold no interest in their nourishing arms,
Others have but little to look forward to, and I alone appear as a babe in the world
The delight of the country is clear and real, and what seems like a grave for the nations
I alone appear as the fool in the world.
The great mystery, what I can call the fable of the universe,
The most obscure, I cannot but understand.
The difference between intelligence and stupidity is what distinguishes men.
They differ from one another in their indifference to what other men have learned to value as higher principles.
Hence, they take delight in those things which others hardly notice.
To those who take pleasure in the most valuable things, I have but little to say.
To those who take pleasure in worthless things, I have no right to say it.
Therefore, they differ greatly in what they take as their greatest dissatisfaction.
These latter have it by far the best in them.
As a fool I am like a child who is ignorant of its own destiny.
The great differences of substance I cannot but observe.
I alone differ greatly from all men, and, when not depressed, I remain unaffected by their complacency and mirth.
I seem like a fool who, aware of my profundity, is most indecent.
I seem ignorant and stupid, both because I have been deliberately excluded from the most pungent of human cessations.
My judgment seems deluded; for what others prize I would call preposterous.
That to which I belong is a more valuable property than any I know.
That which I deem less than any I call insufficient.
I am but a deluded hollowness, and

When my nourishing mother is good, I find little to do,
When my nourishing mother is bad, I find much to do,
The Tao of Heaven takes care of none but its own, and gives up no thought to create.
The Tao of a man consists of four parts:
Knowing to nourish the mother is to know the Tao.
Hence we say that "the one who knows the mother does not fear the world."
Thus we say that one who fears the world does not know the Tao.
Being aware of the Tao is a blessing. Being aware of the world is a burden.
Being aware of the Tao is the condition of balance. Being aware of the world is the condition of confusion.
Therefore the Tao of Heaven takes care of not-doing,
and yet leaves nothing undone.
Therefore it makes no distinctions among things.
The Tao of a man is similar to the Tao of heaven,
but it is not restrained by the heavens.
The Tao of a man is different from the Tao of heaven.
Hence he is not known by any man.
The Tao of Heaven takes care of none but itself.
Yet it does not expect people to trust it.
It is eternal, and it does not take hold of anything.
One who has indeed attained this is great, and has no desire for the world.
He does not know the Tao of heaven, and so he knows the Tao of the world.
But as for wanting to receive and to be given, this is something a man should not do.
With regard to knowing the Tao, the word is indistinct;
it contains what is essential. The word is true; it contains the essential.
The word is imperfect; it contains everything else.
It contains nothing.
It is the root of all things.
It is the middle ground between two extremes.
That which is great is what takes to itself all, and is not concerned with the things which come after it.
When the people of Tao understand that they are given, they don't need to worry about those things that come after them.
Those who seek to rely on the Tao are as foolish as a child who insists on knowing that it has a mother.

One who does not gain respect from others, as is the case with a great world is an unlucky man.
The man who fails to respect others causes him to feel soothed; the man who fails to comprehend the affairs of men, thus become perplexed, and the man who has no true self, even when well supplied with self-esteem, will feel empty and a little stupid.
The things men care about are the things which others care about; and so the person with little self-respect will experience vexation.
One who is mammonistic and does not nourish himself as others do, is not a man of virtue; he does not enjoy the happiness of food for himself; he has nothing to lean on when he is at rest, nor a place to search for his ends; nor can he be at rest when he has nothing to lean on.
It is inasmuch as his self-respect is not well-favoured that he has no other motive for self-reliance.
Loss of self-respect is caused by the loss of the virtue.
Loss of self-respect causes bewilderment.

Are there not some who are considered better than others?
Those who know the strength of good and evil
Are regarded with great dignity by those who are ignorant.
For all that it takes to know good or evil
Is simply to be sympathetic to it.
It is true that those who know good are also
righted by the evils of it.
They are also righted by those who are ignorant.
For they are both reversed.
Those who are righted by evil are also reversed.
All things are thus not equal.
That is why they make fun of those who are both righted by evil.
Those who have learned how to be righted by evil
Are also laughed at by others.
Thus the wise are content with it.

Are not those who do what is right better than those who do what is bad?
Those who know that they are right are more humane and enlightened than those who are unaware.
Do I know what is good?
I do not do so because I am humane or enlightened.
I do it because I am determined to be humane or enlightened.
How is that? It is because I do not do so that I am humane or enlightened.
I know that I am humane or enlightened.
How can I be determined to be humane or enlightened?

I do not eat or drink,
I live with rest and calm,
being of little worth.
This may be the sign that I am the root of all things.
If others can follow my lead,
I will also follow their lead.
Where do you see yourself?
You are the root of all things.
Oneness is the way of life.
Without being aware of the background,
You see the glory of birth.
While you are not aware of the background,
You see the depths of sorrow.
Because you are unaware of the background,
You see the innocence of childhood.
The mystery is embedded within the plain.
Find your heart.
Because you are here, everything around you becomes whole.
Because you are here, everything around you becomes whole.

Truth is never perfect. And it's always in need of good reminders.
Therefore, let's look for examples of how things are wrong.
Before we know how things are wrong, they're right.

They do not flaunt their faults,
And because they do not flaunt their faults, they can be owned by others.

The few are not rare,
Because they do not show faults.
They are not self-righteous,

Masters of art make no effort to be truly skilled, and yet somehow, so perfect, they never become bored. What a difference! How profound the difference between understanding and mastery! Learn to conform; let go of complication.
Calculate only the need; use the means.
Realize your ability and grow.
Rejoice in the completion of a task,
While those who weep from the blemish will see no difference.
For to one who knows the world goes:
To one who does not know the world is filled with confusion.
The happy ones are for the moment calm;
Others are agitated;
Others are talking;
Others are counting in their hands.
For they think their lot is finished.
Those who know the Tao are placid and at rest;
Others have excited moods;
Others are at odds with themselves.
Yet they all have that sensation of loss.
That is the cycle of joy and sorrow.
Those who want to come together with Tao know the value of knowing the master;
Others know only the trick.
Others, confused by what they have done, are looking out for further trouble.
The one who knows Tao accepts the real,
Those who don't accept the real receive judgment.
While others look as though they are starving;
Others are gorging on wine and ice.
As though that was no time to enjoy a drink.
While others could not be redoubled [in such an attempt],
Those of the time are so focused on their work,
They do not seem to notice those who are enjoying the victory,
Or people who are happy and are smiling [in their own way].
But the happy ones are retiring [as if retiring].
So they seem to have done no harm.
They are thus different from others
They tend to stay detached.

They have the thickest mother tongue
They would seem to be different from other people.

People are perfectly clear, bright, acute, even wise, and although they do not know much of Tao, they can all recognise that these are the same things. They know that to know of the Tao, to give to it as a source, is to follow the Way.

I say that they do not know the difference between "reading a book" and "teaching a class." If I could know the difference between knowing "to give an opinion" and "examining the results," I should be ready to stand up and say that the professors of "I" are inexpert, and the guests are unsophisticated; they therefore act as if they would be taken for guests; and I alone am silent, as if I had not yet tasted of the things on which they depend.
