'Those who assert the power of Truth do better than those who only claim to know.'
Who fears public opinion?
People have already worked out that 'True' means 'Not enough.'
'Who denies the DAO endangers the DAO.
Who discards the TAO believes in the TAO.
Who rejects the TAO abandons the DAO.
What is 'big' and 'cheap' are insufficient measures;
'less is has and 'more is.'
'Less' does not qualify as a guideline;
'less is not enough,' too much to bear.
'Difficult to define,'
'not enough defined.'
Therefore:
'Ideally, no need to make distinctions.
'Take the Way as given without seeking too much to explain it.'
<|endoftext|>
If you dare call it 'The Way' you are doomed to fail.
The world is already using what we call 'The Way,' and what is said about it:
Unclear, ugliness.
Heaven is full of ugliness.
In Heaven no one should ever act evil.
Deserving recognition, everyone will have hope.
He who does not do evil is loyal.
He who does not know is obscure.
He who desires will end up with nothing.
Empty words can be made empty.
He who wants to be superior or to do more than is reasonable can be compared to an unkind old dog that hasn't learned to lay a good bargain.
Simply saying: "Little by little you will be made better.""
<|endoftext|>
He who boasts his own glory
(of his own goodness)
Will not attain his goal.
The world already has a formula for it.
What is already unchanging must become stable.
<|endoftext|>
Favor and shame lead to inferiority
And disfavor and fear will cause people
To behave morally and appropriately.
Rather than experience hallelujahs or wantonness,
Be rather skeptical.
Things are only small in comparison to things
Before, after and after-expectations.
Things do not exist for ever and so they have no need for desires.

"Achieving progress is like loving simplicity."
"Achieving harmony is like loving depth."
"Respecting no one is like loving yourself."
"Accepting no one's praise is like loving others."
"Recognizing everything well is like loving all.
What a great squander.
To see the light in it all is too great for words.
To be able to understand it all is so much to desire."
The Ten Thousand Things may have interests which are important to the All - but it is never to be enumerated.
What I desire most is that people stop judging and just get on with their lives.
So I advocate the following.
"Make the most of what you have.
How can you value the things you have if you don't appreciate what is around you?"
"Love what you do not have.
How can you treat other people so you are forgiven for selfish acts?"
"Love everything and be satisfied with nothing.
How can you value your work if you do not love the things you make?
Achieve peace and quiet in your heart, and realize how your mind is your own body.
Give up materialism and practice the Way; the Way teaches you how to act, and gives you the ability to do so.
<|endoftext|>
What you value
Lessens.
What you love
Lessens.
Lessens serves you everything.
Loves that all.
Loves that one.
You can't trust yourself.
Keep things under your control.
You are a wanderer.
You don't know.
Go to other places.
Follow the Way.
Hence this:
You're not as important as everyone else
Why are you so important?
Your goal
Things grow
Things follow you
Things come to you
Things are yours
Things are not.
That's the reason you can't know.
Thus you can:
Follow the Way.
These ten strategies become apparent:
To value the things,
To love the person,
To understand the universe,
To love the world.
Give up ego, desire and worldly desires.
If you can
Take other people's places.
Stay in the present.
Heaven and Earth arise.
Comes you.
Becomes you.

If your business is treated with simplicity and propriety,
People will profit one hundredfold in the long run.
If your country's goods are helped by basic goodwill,
People will behave like good neighbors.
If your work is humane,
People will do good deeds without flouting the law.
If your words are ordinary,
People will understand with stupidity.
Now, all of this is hidden and is never clarified.
When you advocate this plain non-dualism,
People will become more sincere and be more pleasant.
When your business is in the public service,
People will become more business owners.
When your business is in the social hall,
People will become more cooperative and more moral.
When your business is in the world,
People will become more self-interesting and more enlightened.
And,
So much so,
Even if you live in the country,
People won't believe you.
When you talk and argue about doctrine,

the issues will be muddy.

The number one importance in Tao is not possessing a Tao.
If you have Tao, it is difficult to maintain a Tao.
If you have not Tao, it is easier to lose the ability to have Tao.
If you hold no Tao, you are self-satisfied and fulfilled. If you can only believe in Tao, you become ungrateful and vain. If you are ungrateful and vain, you are deluded and confused.
Things are not simple.
To understand the ways of the universe, be aware of the multitudes.
And understand the very nature of Tao.
To trust in this world and not with us is to not break the cycle of creation.
<|endoftext|>
The highest good is not to act virtuously.
The highest ambition is not to be overflowing with ambition.
The highest delight is not to crave for all things.
Things are nebulous.
If we know this, we will be free from the pretension to be enlightened.
If we know this, we will not want to act virtuously.
If we know this, we will not be deluded.
Since we know that these things are nebulous, we are like the sacred gem.
If we have to treat them as precious objects,
We love and follow those who cherish them as precious objects.

Returning from the return road
The virtuous walk the earth back in peace;
The hundred streams are kept quiet by serenity;
The king brings the people closer to Tao.

Preaching no wisdom,
People will gladly love each other.
Prescribing no good,
People are free to cooperate without end.
Hence, those three states are intermingled by different systems.
Conciliatory words may be called tenuous,
Concealed by obscurity,
Nevertheless, their application can end in completion.

Gathering with your abdomen,
Returning to rest.
Each one of heaven's four quarters --
the five flavors
of the breath,
to breathe naturally,
or press forward,
to overcome resistance,
or reach the ultimate bliss.
Breath can be regulated,
The flavor can be clarified.
But just as the fruit is not bound to its flavor,
similarly no part can be forgotten.
Keep to the simplicity of simplicity,
Separate all the vexations from each other.
Tao can be grasped,
But each thing can be followed.
<|endoftext|>
Returning to the natural, returning to the natural, returning to the natural, returning to the ordinary, the end of living, the beginning of death:
The flavor and brightness return to the tasteless,
The life and being return to the non-living,
The return and stopping of the senses,
To return to the Tao that's real,
To return to the Tao that's abstract,
To return to the Tao that's dispassionate,
To return to the Tao that's non-conflicting,
So simple as the Tao that's natural:
<|endoftext|>
Returning to the natural --
Returning to the natural:
One who lives in Peace and Harmony creates Life and All.
Who lives in Purity
Creates Love and Integrity.
To live naturally in Peace and Harmony is to be born of Peace and Harmony.
To live without being born of Peace and Harmony is to be to be without Love and Integrity.
To not live naturally is to be born of non-being,

The virtue that can endure in pain is also the virtue that can endure in virtue. Both can go out of their way.The virtue that is constant in activity is also constant in activity. Both can be excellent in the morning. Both can be outstanding at the end of the night. Both have their significance. The vice that is constant in affairs is also constant in affairs. Both can be injurious at the beginning of a campaign. Both are opposed by virtue.
Truly, these are two on the same level - the virtue which, by persevering, endures, and the virtue which is constant by persevering, endures even better, in spite of what appears to be opposition. The right virtue produces as much virtue as the left-handed, and the right virtue produces more virtue than the left-handed. Both produce in spite of what appears to be opposition. The right virtue is to be followed by the left-handed, the left virtue is to be followed by the right-handed.
One who makes no further ado about himself will not lose any of his virtue. He who asks for no favour will never attract the eye of people. One who is not covetous can never lose his place. He who does not glorify himself will never lose his position. What is to be done is to apply the ten thousand forms of goodness.
<|endoftext|>
The good life can endure harm, a wise man can even endure advantage,
the true life may even endure harm.
These things happen by what we would call going by,
but since they are because we go by, we can keep them,
and have virtues that are even better than what we have,
much better.
And so they are also followed by the bad and worse,
and they all have some importance.
Because they are as much as possible gone by,
we should care for them,
care for the less-good, and care for the better-off.
The virtuous way follows the way of the good:
You have no harm, no advantage, no harm.
If you don't give up on things, you will not lose them.
If you give up on your values, you will never be betrayed.
These are but ten points that some will need to clear up in their speech, but it is best to treat them as one principle
and to love all the other things as if they were you.

Accept the external world
and the miraculous is possible.
Accept the outer world and the routine will be exact.
Accept and conceal the Tao
and your mind will not turn away from your soul.
Accept little
and you will see some.
And forget much and you will lose hope.
These three are similar in origin.
Hold to this and the whole can be controlled.
To show kindness to all is simple to achieve.
Love to the people is not selfish and will make progress.
To allow (nam) money is just plain to simple.
There are things which are,

The wise person is receptive to all that is. Everything that can be known can be discussed by the wise person. Everything that can be investigated can be clarified by the wise person. Everything that can be clarified can be attained by the wise person. Everything that can be loved can be detested by the wise person.
Everything, including the Tao, could be twisted and coloured and turned into useful and opposing things. The universe is dynamic and tolerant. The wise understand that change is inevitable, but should not try to force change on anyone.
The wise person must follow the Inner Way (dao) and may be used as a teacher or mentor.
The Inner Way may have many names, yet it is simple and intuitive.
The wise leader works with both the inner and the outer world, and this means being open and engaging all others with compassion and kindness.
The Inner Way is what all things are and everything is on the path to perfectiveness. Be open to the inner simplicity:
What is is, what will be, and what will not be.

Proper provision is to one's being that of necessity.
Therefore a poor man is provided by being provided.
A creditworthy man is provided by being furnished.
A good man is furnished by being acted upon.
Proper provision is a simple act;
This is called 'how to.'
The knowledge of the true nature of action is only inadequate.
The essence of a truly good man is also knowledge, and those who do not seek to profit by his kindness may thereby benefit.
Yet those who think themselves good are often foolish.
<|endoftext|>
Nature allows all men to be better if they are made good by virtue of nature.
Being made good by nature leads to that which you need.
The good man can then use what is produced by his neighbor, for in this he is acting only with his neighbor, for he has produced his own creation.
To act when there is nothing is more to benefit him than to take over what is not yet in use.
This is called 'practicing virtue.'
The words of 'practicing virtue'
Must be as spurious as the words of 'following gentleness,'
And therefore cannot be fully elucidated;
It is only by this that we can say
That what is perfectly humane is no longer the use of the people,
And what is correctly calculated to supply happiness to people is no longer happiness enough,
That the ingenuity of men who use their ingenuity for the advantage of others,
Is as worthless as that of the man who lays the ordinary of creation out in their own hands.
<|endoftext|>
Proper provisioning makes a man good.
Goodness is possible through being made good.
To act with goodness is to justify the accomplishment of

Having knowledge that is inadequate is a result of foolishness

The learning without being natural is blindness
Borrowing for knowledge is the lack of proper understanding

The great way is open; it does not know rules and regulations. It has all things under heaven under its bright, clear wing. To those who seek it, what are there to compare with it? Yet, if they have the heart to seek, it is not without benefit. The teacher who invites others will find no discouraging atmosphere for you. He will not scorn his subjects. It is no matter how intellectual he is, he will be ready to advise and keep a young man to his heart. It is necessary for the simple man of faith to call his knowledge insufficient. He values the friendship of his people, even at great cost to himself.)

The Tao is a profoundly insightful substance.
It can be talked about all day long and every day,
but its substance is profound and hard to explain.
When it is overused, it gets dull.

Knowing the absolute Truth is being given power.
Being given power allows you to be an effective word, to be a model, a leader, a teacher, and a leader in action.
To be given power is to live according to the law of gravity:
Being given power is to not have much power.
Not having much power is as powerful as having enough.
To have enough power and not use it is to know the secret of life.
When you know the secret of life you don't have to act.
That is how one learns how to govern other people.
How does one teach others how to govern themselves?
He needs only to make the right plans and be efficient, And he can do whatever he wants.
How does he know what to do with his body?
He uses it to learn to do what he wants, To do what he wants, and the people love him.
How does he know the best way to deal with things?
He lets his body act and continues to grow, And he ends up with the perfect shape he deserves.

The old and the new are both with the same object. Therefore, nothing in the world is off-limits for what is "new."Without thinking too highly of the future, a person can be tolerant of others and allow things to happen naturally. If he is also diligent in saving his own life, he will always live with his purpose. The old takes care of people, then, and then lets them go on enjoying themselves. The "new" takes care of people, then, and then makes sure the people's lives are perfectly fit.
<|endoftext|>
The old and the new are both things of the same substance. Both arise from the same ground.
Therefore the wise man respects and accepts everything, and
protects everything without using force.
The old man respects and also accepts everything, and
protects everything with force.
Therefore the old and the new, both renew themselves;
Both possess the same substance.
So the wise man regards the one and ignores the other.
The sage does the one, and,
the other.
Therefore both cherish the one:
they acknowledge the other as something useful.

Heaven and Earth are one, for they both are formless.
They have always been formless, and therefore remain so.
Therefore the Sage uses the one and the learns the other.
He accepts the one, and adopts the other.
He is equal to both the former and the latter.

The heavens and the earth are the same thing, though one only.
It is formless and yet unchangeable.

He is equal to nothing else.

If people of old times could speak - "oneness" was a redundant word. Yet the people I have listened to and listened to them too - - to. The work of the world isn't done yet, so I'm saying: I'm an optimist - I see everything as it is. I've experienced the world too, and its examples - the whole world. The world I know well, and in a way that my human nature, too.
With humility I say: even without my successes, I can be happy. With humility I say: I'm not surprised. For all my life I've been the same as others are.
After becoming human, I think that: everything in the world, all the time, I'm in my own world.
If I have nothing, I don't need to say a word.
The people are all still - still, and I don't see anything to be sad about.
If I know they have their purpose, I treat them with the kindness of the people.

Humility takes its place.
Diffidence dispenses with argument.
Grace is not a virtue,
But only a false pretense for something genuine.
The way is but the shadow;
Nature is but the realization of it.
Should one use one,
Of necessity he is bound to other things.
Therefore it is:
Have patience, and if you have faith
You will work for ever.
Maintain the sense,
And you will never go astray.
And then the emptiness will be opened up
by the realization that there is nothing in general.
There is something, and everything is fulfilled,
Where the imperfection lies.

"A headlong display" is an indication of the second phase of the Spirit. It is not the measure of the way. Pride and vainglory are merely the pretense. There are no true acts or principles. It is like what has always been. It is necessary to live within its measure. Use Tao without extravagance, and you will never have to deal with expensive things. The Tao in every way reveals what is hidden. It permits the traveling, where you enjoy everything without needing to seek profit or status. Enjoy the simplicity of the uncarved block of wood. Be of no importance and you will receive much kindness. Chase Nature, and you will be a thief. Now, it is the Mystical ideal that has no pretension, and yet it is able to conquer everything.

But the wise one never relies on the kindness of the people, so he can't truly be kind.
Not believing in goodness is no way to being kind.
That's why the wise man always gives gifts, and takes delight in guests.
He follows the Tao and never needs them.

Without wisdom men's hearts are serene and their faith can stand firm. Without wisdom men's reason is robust and their justice a certain degree [certain danger is withheld]. Without wisdom people differ [their purity]. So the ruler, after attaining sovereignty and holding on to human kindness, if he knows that that's the rule he also allows the king and prince to be fit for their proper purpose. For the king and prince it is the empire that returns to. Without the king and prince everything is in trouble. In this way the governing office of the universe does nothing, and so the men, who all live without desires, are of use to the whole empire.

The Sage's heart was tranquil and unalert. He's without flaw or prejudice in all his conduct. He was like a valley deep-seated, with a great root, as if constantly being renewed. In good times, people return to their roots, and then in bad times, to their fulfillment. Therefore, the ruler should follow the same course as the sage:To stay with the people, and to always take care of their welfare. The ruler should bring everyone back to the condition of normal. He should give the people their fill.He should encourage them.I have said the Sage is without flaw, and there is no prejudice. Without prejudice, he is one with the Infinite.Without prejudice, he is at the root of everything. Therefore, the Ruler ought to be kind to people, and also to be kind to nature. The Ruler ought to be kind to the people, and also to be kind to nature. So he who keeps the Tao, how can there be evil? One who is kind to people should be useful to them. One who is kind to nature should be useful to them. One who is just is not worth mentioning. One who is just does not deserve a man.One who has no sense of loss should stay in the realm, because he alone is able to return to one's original nature.

With a long-forgotten impulse, in harmony with his state.
When well-founded, he would calmly preside

Keep an empty vessel to be a container of the Universe.
Keep a sage to be an instrument of the World.
The sage is an empty vessel but so excellent.
Hence, the world, at the moment of its delivery of ills, forgets the teacher and loves the follower.
Thus:
The use of an empty vessel reveals how good it is;
its value is great;
Its use causes things to return to their simplicity;
It is the most common true principle.
The value of wisdom is its prevalence.
Its empty use reveals the highest substance.
Its value is real.
It shows how things are not conformable to nature.
The use of wisdom shows the source of its usefulness.
Hence, the use of words will not be sufficient.
If you look at the use of words, it will become empty.
Look at the empty use of words, and you will have no need for words.
When the Tao and the Universe both die, this dimension of emptiness will have no use for non-Tao.

Highly esteemed people have their abilities, but their usefulness is greatly reduced.
Harmony has been established, but loyalty is very weak.
Unto what price?
Those who regard themselves as great, have little.
Those who esteem themselves as clever have much.
Those who regard themselves as mighty have hardly any.
Those who regard themselves as noble have no more than their people have.
These three (i.e., rarity and deficit) are inferior to those (below themselves).
Therefore they become the center of the circle, and the foundation of the carriage (their methods).
When the car is perfect, there is no need to center them.

The great leaders have their achievements and their lessons but are not put to use.
They are praised, but they are not displayed.
Their ambitions are not met.
Their accomplishments are not complete.

The highest natural ability
Must not take credit for one's achievements
And the greatest accomplishments,
Must have the support of one's family and community
Must not take credit for their greatness
The great achievement, therefore,
Must have a foundation in the humble.
And,
If you do not trust what you have
To trust what you have not,
That's when you will stumble, and know
That success is a mirage.

You should never let ambition or pride restrain you.
You should never let the idea of achievement blind your mind.
When the efforts of a great leader are complete,
You do not want to praise them.
Then you should listen to their unceasing achievements,

If the Tao is not the Master's Way
it would soon run roughshod over all that it touches.
All the world under Heaven would gain a hundredfold
by embracing this Tao.
There is no way to be like the Tao.
It has no secrets and holds no expectations.
That is the Master's Way, And Heaven's way,
Earth's way, Man's way, Nature's way.
And all these do just as well.
The difference is that in the one,
the Way cannot be helped by words, and
in the other,
it cannot be helped by speech.
The one leads, the other follows,
the latter all end in disaster.
Yet it is best to observe,
observe origin's way,
observe uncarved simplicity,
observe foresight,
observe indifference,
observe not-being.
<|endoftext|>
He who respects the great origin will not give up on the Way. The whole world will profit a hundred times. By embracing the great origin there is peace for the earth and heaven. By embracing the great origin everything will then return to natural unity. If heaven and earth abandon this they will lose all benefit of peace. Only so far do they gain advantage.
The difference is only in the name:
The master's Way is that which has no name; and heaven's Way is that which has a name. The earth's way is that which has no name; and man's way is that which has a name. All the things of nature and heaven are because they are by nature. Endowed with a natural name they all come to the same conclusion. Should Nature should not endure what it possesses it would be destroyed. The first men did not forsake the Way, and so should not be abandoned.
<|endoftext|>
Even if the mind would never give up on the Tao,
all men will benefit, and the empire would become happier. The great benefit
will come only if all get the Tao, and all will know its wonderful power. Those with Tao know that it is naturally 'superior' and 'ordinary.'
Those with Tao know it is 'exotic' and 'advanced.'
The latter has its natural place. It is

When he does not abide by the limitations that his nature imposes upon himself, he will be able to remain at his lowest and most humble level, and attain the level of his fellow men.
When he lets himself go of the noble characteristics that he takes from the "non-One," he will become a worthless, people's servant.
When he lets go of these noble attributes, he will become benevolent.
When he lets go of these people's same, he will become respected.

Those who possess imaginations are of no benefit to others.
The person of understanding is like this.
He has the appearance of the unformed,

Does not go to waste.
He is given up, then possessed,
And by possessing he is supported and re-directed by those who have already grasped it.

Utter failure is easily the step one took towards enlightenment.
Most worthless things make a great effort.
Not to seek knowledge is the matter.
We are like nothing more than dust from the sunrise.
Looked upon, we are like an empty void.
Cautious, cautious, forever.
Unskilled, skillful.
Victorious, then lose your natural lot.
Everybody goes on after what he wants.
He who does not have sufficient desire won't be satisfied.
The Tao is to be sought out, not achieved.
Only the yielding parts are useful.
Look to the simple, and look at the complicated.
Hear the sound of the single voice.
Focus your wisdom, and go where the Tao leads you.
The superficial guide and the superficial take you nowhere.
Look inside yourself and recognize the grand illusion.
Use your intelligence, not learning, so you can arrive at the easy and natural self.
Utter failure, your body's tumour is open.

With great failure, we may have recognized our true nature;
The worthless may have revealed themselves;
The good might have revealed themselves;
The bad might have revealed themselves;
In trying to be bright, we are sure to be dark;
In struggling with our substance, we are sure to be empty;
In striving to be strong, we are sure to be weak;
In striving to be clever, we are sure to be simple;
In pursuing our projects, we are sure to be intractable.
Of what use is it to go after this, when we are more likely to act out of trust?
The least helpful knowledge is already sufficient.
Look to the simple, see the curious;
Look to the profound, see the superficial.
And simply fall back upon yourself.

The best Way is to abandon that which is worthless.
The useless is to remain with what is perfect.

When the people are wise and intelligent they call themselves natural, but truly not so.
When the people are not wise and intelligent but clever, they call themselves clever, but not so.
When the people are ignorant and stubborn, they call themselves extra, but not so.
After they have conquered all these things and all these faults they leave the best-looking, and call themselves earthly, and is not so.
When all the laws have been broken, and every fault have been fixed, the best one (the formulae) for laws are said to be, "The formulae are best for the perfectation of the last degree." They are best for the perfection of the last degree, for we only need apply the formulae at a far distance, and then to the full.

The old state is wise.It has wisdom. The high is exalted. The low is lowly. The still is agitated.Thieves and robbers are excluded. The three are imitations of each other. They are opposites. And so the kind is called high. The tao is called the earthly. When the pair of opposites are brought together they are known as the three harmonious ones. They are the harmonious three. They are the three necessary opposites. So we know they are imitations of each other. And so we know that they can be no complete, artificial measure. Those who know this are called wise. Those who don't know this are called unsophisticated. And so the lowest is given precedence over the highest. The relation between the sky and the earth is called the harmonious nature.A state of nothingness and form is called the essence of Tao.This unity is as much an expression of the original person as a self-discussion or meditation of the Tao.

A good head is not a head, but a means for bringing clarity to the world. A bad head is not a head, and yet it will end in disaster. Thus it is that the sage is concerned with making oneself better than others, while the thieves he calls despicable. He who makes himself noble, and yet is despised. He who does his work properly, but loses what he really does to do it is greedy and ungrateful. I say that the chief of thieves comes from the example of "the Tao" (the Laws of the Universe). He has no title but remains illustrious. Thus if the followers of this Tao are ready to show their hands by taking action, the thieves cannot but take notice of it.

Good fellows are not good, not wise; and the reason for their not being good is they love to distinguish. Not wise are these people, and where there is distinction, there is a darkness.By not distinguishing, one can see the abyss.By not being wise, one can also see the abyss. Thus, thieves become thieves and robbers become robbers. Those who alone can go by the master's principle are the thieves' true master. By separating oneself from this life, one endangers himself.

Tao (law) is something that helps people to be better, not as something that stops them from acting correctly.
Others look at it as something bad and of no use to act on.They therefore hold to "getting" (shut down) and stopping (shut off from things).
They are not good at it and so give up being good.
Others look at it as something good and of no use to act on.They therefore treat it as undesirable and taking it.
They are not good at it and so take it as desirable and gain the world.
They look at it as something undesirable and of no use to act. They therefore treat it as undesirable and taking it.
Whoever delights in getting and not doing well gets them, and the people hate him (be they of the lower class or higher).
Therefore the self-sacrifice (tao) of the person of good character is that only he (character) can give up his good character.
Those who treasure their self not the best are easy to take, and the thieves are glad when they do not dare to steal from them.
Thus it is that the sage (

When an intelligent person starts to make use of his or her intellect, such as when a computer accomplishes its task, we all say that this could be a warning to one not to try. What kind of serious error is it that leads to the killing of people? If it does not happen to them, then there must be reasons for killing people. The second is that which can be walked on.
The first is that which can be disregarded.
How much difference is that which has between them?
It is difficult to know; all we can do is to observe the results.
We know that this way of walking is inferior to the other.
How much of an exaggeration is that which can be walked on?
Hardly a person of a hundred years' age would walk so lightly.
We do not seem to know how to finish one's actions.
All we can do is be orderly, impartial, and not to care.
Whatever is a matter of profit is a matter of misfortune.
Thus it is that the three things are sorted out in the Way.
While their models are different, they are put together according to the way of Dao.
We are then to be indifferent and obsequious.
How much difference is it between this and the other?
Like the great wisdom we know not the name. We only observe the outcome.
After thinking about it, we do not complain. We act according to the Tao.
Hence we realize how much of an artifice we are, how many small acts we have to perform.
Knowing this we stop. Because as Dao is, so it is not.

I am unable to live up to their standards of propriety,

Endless emptiness there is no other way to look at it. Therefore the sage gives life to the empty. He gives life to the vacancy, and so to the uncarved jade. This is called empty-folding. Thus does he rid it of its uncarved forms, so it will become jade. To fill it with formless simplicity and to make it immortal,

Return and the people will flourish.

When a ruler is built on the image of the people and not on the image of a god, the people will trust him and not abandon him. When he is built on the image of gold and not on that of the people, the people will love and not hurt him. When he is built on simple speech and not on that of the gods, the people will fear him and not ridicule him.
These three, when spoken of as the five things, are not enough; therefore, the Sage uses them as words. He departs from them, and thus is praised by his people. In this manner he elevates simplicity, and by it provides comfort for the people. He flattens the mind and in it displays the "filial piety" of the common folk. He empties the spirit, and in it sets them free from the "excessive passions."

In order to build a symbol-measuring board, walk in a respectful manner:
Seek unity of mind with the multitude,
When working together,
Be careful not to oppress one another.
So learn how to give up greed and lust,
And stop seeing the fruit of your labor.
From this then, you may accomplish all you want.
<|endoftext|>
With understanding, one can perfect the space between the enigma and the whole.
Be gentle and modest in the work of forging words and actions.
Like a beautiful vessel, an uncarved wood or a pot, the people will respect you and not care.
Accept humility, accept humility and begin to experience life.

In order to build a symbol-measuring board, Walk in a respectful manner:
Seek unity of mind with the multitude,

This is done, and in the end, the people will love and not care.
This is done, and in the end, the people will take care of themselves,
and become happy and prosperous.
That is called profound understanding.
Return and the people will realize the fullness of life.

In its models they seek:
The beauty of uncarved wood,
And the lack of wealth;

Hence, on passing from the sages' teaching,
To the guiding of images;
When the image cannot fulfill its task;
What is left is simplicity,
Morality,
Acting without being ordered;
When the creatures lose their rank
What then?
A valley of Sincerity!
Princes and nobles a thousand times undeserved,
Hors De and rust;
In an unhewn logyard,
Receiving gifts at good times.
The humanist supplants the atheist:
How?
By not discouraging action.
By making no statements.
<|endoftext|>
The sage discerned in this way
Mystified the origin of all things.
That is why he still keeps the dao as his teaching,
Not like the mathematician or the wiseman of the past,
Who were in excess of his power and daring.
This I call 'the valley of Daolessness.'
The people, I see, are happy,
And they return to their roots.
The wiseman then raises a voice of wisdom,
And teaches us to be merciful.
How is that!
Why shouldn't we take from non-action to fill the belly?
How can we talk like darlings, How can we make the uncarved block of wood our vessels?
Where is the impropriety of knowing?
If we can't know, how can we know others?
This is why he says:
<|endoftext|>
If the Sage moves forward, the people are happy.
If the Sage is above reproach, the people return to the state of their infancy.
Therefore the Sage says,
"Leave me alone and I am not amazed;
Leave me alone and I will be successful.
Leave me alone and I will be happy;
Leave me alone and I will not be troubled."
With this, the sage does not make things obvious.
In order to do this he takes the people back to simplicity.

That which has no name should not be described,
And this is the reason why all people agree.
Therefore they do not advise others to make use of this doctrine
And so it is to the advantage of everyone.
Abandon 'sin' and people will 'act generously',
Abandon 'morality' and people will 'act morally',
Abandon 'art' and people will 'act virtuosically'
And soforth without end - everyone will have enough.
Yet 'sin' can no longer be regarded as such,
Therefore the people are encouraged to value honour,
Know how to carve wood and 'keep it',
To let things go if the need arises.
See your physique and intuition,
and to your eyes see your body.
Because everything should have a nature,
To have no desire, you will not leave the valley.
<|endoftext|>
From virtue to sincerity, and from benevolence to paternalism,
the people of old have neither advocated them.
What has been asserted
is not no good,
Therefore there is no name for it.
The people of old have them without trying to use them,
and they have no craving for them.
But the people of the present have both of them,
and that too without striving,
And that too without desire.
Without desire nothing shall become limitless.

He who renounces the name of good (sin) lacks the reason for being good,
He who renounces the name of good (morality) lacks the reason for holding to it,
He who renounces the name of art (working) lacks the reason for his ability,

He who renounces the name of function (results) lacks the reason for himself,
He who renounces the name of change (provision of functions), lacks the reason for what he does,

The great man of old wrote down the way, not using words.

He walked in the valley, not using words,

He saw people, not using the physical tools,

He acted, not acting like a god.
Then all the people looked after him,
all the tools didn't hurt him.
Next he stopped thinking about being human,

The great men of old were not able to show us their mighty deeds, For only a general made a list. For it is only through a list that a general can act without fear, and only through a list that he can build a house without melting ice.
Not by words can they do this. When they take things apart; They cut them down.

The Tao is subtle and profound, and yet its use remains elusive. It is subtle, for it is concealed; and yet its use is inexhaustible. It is indeed, hidden! Nevertheless its use is inexhaustible; for indeed it is inexhaustible!
It may be said that the profane moves great distances. Perhaps it has far-reaching operations; perhaps it's cunning provides the tools for their use. But it cannot be conceived of, as I have said, that it does not act in harmony with Nature. The profane uses its materials: as wood-worker, it works, but leaves no trace. Its work is impeccable; its own energy, it absorbs, like water in a fire. When the profane uses its tools, it is strong and effective. Its methods are, however, of later antiquity. The profane uses its merit; its wit and merit, its knowledge and merit, and its mastery, its reach. Only its use of implements is of ancient antiquity; And its use of its notions is of present antiquity. If this be not true, let me search for the less obscure. I will venture to focus my mind upon simplicity and following nature: There may be loftiness within it and great glory. There may be morality and kindness. There may be far-

The people can benefit a hundred-fold.
Therefore, to remain silent and keep oneself simple.
Simply observe that simplicity is the only real unity.
Accept non-existence, but you will remain free of desire.
LaoTze told the nameless not to be 'pricked' in the middle of action, thus preserving simplicity and bringing prosperity.
When the ruler conceives of mastering virtue, one should not be surprised if people's egocentricities and selfishness overpower their actual needs.
When nobles and lords have finally realized that a comprehensive knowledge is the best way, that would be the time when the common folk will follow them.
Regarding 'humanitarian principles', the word comes from the number four - four differences.
The fourfold does not mean 'enumerated', but means 'that which fills space'.
<|endoftext|>
Between power and freedom there exists the light within power, in power there lies weakness, and weakness lies power.
One who chooses to suppress that light will thereby deal with a hundredfold greater number of things.
Who would suppress the light of power is then better able to deal with a hundredfold greater number of things.
And who is better able to deal with a hundredfold greater number of things is then also himself a hundred times more numerous.
Therefore one's discrimination of all is different from that of the others.
The one who really understands that is without desire, is like a river's voice which does not sound strange.
The people are those who know how to remain in their simplicity, and find that they can accomplish whatever they set their minds to.
To me these are all that is important.

Be careful of your way; people will be less likely to be confused.
Be cautious of the ways of life, and no one will feel awkward.
But because people value different things, people's lives may seem like separate worlds.
Therefore, a person of perfect Taoist teaching, for example, is careful not to show off, so that the people are less likely to feel confused.
Therefore, a virtuous person, too, is cautious not to try to show off, so that no one feels awkward.
So a person of poor Taoist teaching values, as much as possible, what the people have, and prefers to keep their own life in peace.
He does not accept his own soul as much as the people, and takes this life as a gift.

Too much learning makes one forget.
Too much recognition of oneself stops egocentric action.
Too much concern and comparison with others causes harm.
How do we know if they are valuable, or not?
We see the difference between the bright and the dull.
The bright becomes one, and is subsequently extinguished.
The dull becomes one, and causes disruption.
The wise keeps the bright and brings disorder to the group.
The group grows without difficulty because its members trust that they have a group leader.
Uncarved wood is easily carved. This is not enough, we must cling to the uncarved block.

they will ripen into such extreme agitation that you would be afraid to go outside.
These will attract the attention of cunning men.
True and illuminating wisdom does not arise from brightly shining hubris.
There is no such thing as intelligent wisdom.
A wise man does not seek clarity.
He is willing to let what is not needed be.
He would rather let a single speaker bear the weight of his words, than lead the entire community through a stream of comment.

The Prince and the lesser are the effects of the one with the hidden and the bright.
The common and the rare are effects of the One with the hidden and the dark.
The way is the reflection of the true nature and the Tao is the guide.

If you do not cut, then you'll be whole. If you don't have to cut you'll be fine. If you don't think about it, you'll be perfectly free. If you don't have to know, you'll be enlightened. If you don't like to think, then you'll always be safe. If you don't know how to speak, then you'll get no instruction. If you don't have enough money to defend yourself, the people will lose trust and power, and thieves will spring up.
If you accept the wisdom of the Tao, then you won't need much: you won't have to hunt for it.
If you don't like learning and building things, you won't have to

Eliminate all distinctions,And there will be unity.
To reduce distinctions is to help wholeness.
To refrain from discriminationsIs to preserve wholeness.
Difficult to obtain, yet to have it is to have wholeness.
The profundity of dao is difficult to grasp.
The reason for its difficulty is that in it are hidden the essence.
In it, there is light.
Hold fast to it, and it will save you from harm.

When we eliminate our discrimination and reduce our greed,
How we can be at the same level as God.
When we reduce our differences and renounce our glory,
How we can be as faithful and humble as a shepherd.

Since it is such an easy step, it is best to keep it to yourself.

He cultivates the Dao to make his soul whole. He uses it for his self.

Eliminate vices and practice kindness, and nothing is beyond reach. To be kind will make you strong;to keep to self and to follow on is called goodness.Difficult to be possessed of goodness, yet to have it is to have goodness.Lack of cleverness in helping is to keep to good order.Difficult to be humane in loving, yet to have goodness is to have goodness.Things that are difficult to get are what make up the Tao.So there is much stuff to work with.Strengthen and help what is strong, and you will have all your needs.Harmony with things that are genuine, and you will be in harmony with the One.You will reach the understanding of the world. So you should abide in your oneness.Keep your oneness, and then nothing will ever be out of reach.<|endoftext

Attain the Way - become like the Way-In truth, you will not be reborn, like a bolt of morning wind.Hurry and you will reach enlightenment,Wise leaders complete the work,Then all understand.Bad leaders, who are not in harmony with the Way,Return. And those who abolish it,Why?Because they forget their right to act. With that, the order of the world is harmonised,Things are in order, no more of the war.The Path is given, not rejected. From that day forward, people will rely on the Way,Or even consider killing themselves.Preemptive action, refusing to follow the Way is like saving a child,The Way is the only way, not to rebel against it.Good men and great men have put their trust in the WayAnd no one is left to lose.Appropriately - its use in saving the world:Proper etiquette and respect are as necessary to its returnAs a newborn babe feeds its mother.

Those with the mastery of the Tao appear innocent and simple-hearted, proud and without shame. Yes, these are traits of the Tao.
People learn to emulate them by loving others.
The follower of the Tao chooses to love others, but does not have pride.
He/she respects others, yet does not dishonor them.
He/she values others, yet does not abuse them.
All people love and honor the one, and hate and despise the other.

Tao is seen as good and kind.

We do not seek to be virtuous.
I value myself no more.
I bequeath the one to the other.
Accept the one and you lose the other.
Accept the foolishness of the other.
That is why the world's leaders avoid these three.
Those without virtuous actions attract misfortune.
Those without the kindness of nature receive misfortune.
Those without good will end up receiving misfortune.
Those without sincerity will turn out to be incompetent.
All leaders not with the essence are lost.
The people are ready to give them teachings.
But they do not have the basic talent.

The students of Tao are thoughtless, fair and simple,
having no ideas, but possessing unlimited potential.
They are untainted, but free from desire.
They have the Unity, but are non-different from each other,
and free from divisions,
finding on the One source of all things.
Their musts are following the Natural,
and avoiding the Inner.
Their imaginations are tinged with indiscretion,
but they are open to all being,
and pursuing their nature without attachment.

Knowing the Tao, one has free-will.
It is without standards of goodness, and therefore contains nothing to enforce righteousness.
The only good it prevents is that which comes from the self.
It protects each within itself, by no force of will; and if forced to do anything, I honor it.

Music acts as a mask to what the superior person feels. Music covers up the tao. It is like a curtain. Without music, the superior person's true nature cannot be understood.

The seer is subtle; therefore she is not distinguished by men of the people. The kindly decent man is clever; therefore he is not distinguished by men of the people. These fellows, fording the streams of destiny, far from the way and on to the top, cut short the days of filial piety and unspoiled love. Simple Virtue:
Like the flower of spring, it comes together as a whole.
It is the easiest to use.
To look at it leaves no doubt.
When it is in its prime, then change to the female (Urania),
Then revert to the male (Hades).
You will not be able to perceive the difference (such as) the male and the female.
When you bring them together, you do not wish to touch them.
When they are merged,
nothing will harm you.
Once you take up this principle,
It becomes clear to you.
Look at your own virtue, look at your relationships.
<|endoftext|>
When a man of unerring integrity is made aware of the constant way of goodness in the world, he will sense that to be really good is to be utterly unrecognizable. To be truly good is to be unrecognizable. This means that one is neither good nor bad, neither good nor bad.
If you take the same thing and combine it with other things, you will acquire the pairs of opposites. In this manner, you will thereby lose the identity of individuality. Being without any attachments, you will find a sense of self-mastery. Attachment means that you begin to be intent only on your self, or on completing your work, or on completing your relationship with others, or on completing the task which you are setting out to accomplish. You become detached from that which is your self. That is the reason that when you are not able to distinguish that which is your self, you will become attached to the relationship with others. Attachment means that you begin to become aware of the self. This is the reason that you will not be able to distinguish the self. This is the constant way of goodness.

When [benevolence is experienced] in a man of good insight, he will see that what is good is to him only good, and what is bad is to him only bad. What is good is then nothing; what is bad has no existence. We are so full of talk, I've stopped listening.
The reason I'm stopping is simple:
The lessons of life are never too complicated.
Most things we're taught is impractical, useless, and absurd.
But when we give them to people, the response is always simple: "Yes."
When they give a speech, we turn to the same thing they turn to:
"Yes!"
When the people are excited they turn to yes: "Yes!"
When they have desires we turn to yes: "Yes!"
But it is on the latter that the difference between yes and no occurs.
These are the common sense differences between yes and yes.

Do the old jokes still hold true to the way things were, a hundred years ago?

We have become so full of woe and worry,
That I am scared to talk at all.
If I could go back in time and turn back
I would do the same.
But there is nothing really old
in this world,
So I can't.
There was a time of a hundred things
These all were simple and orderly
Only human beings wouldn't like them.
There was a time
when they were simple and orderly
These were really complicated and empty.
They had problems:
Do the people
have problems?
Do they have problems?
It's in the center of everything.
We have to let go of claims
And accept what is already here.
What is right and what is wrong
are personal, and important.
We need to start over, by letting go of anything
That stands in the way.

We have no reliable guide to the "original:"
We have learned to read well only
But the results have had to be discoursed about

With long and deep probes
Because of answers that are the same
In the first chapter we have to stand here
We must hold fast to the earthly root
Because the earth doesn't stand on its own
We must go back to the middle and not be confused
Before creation began
We may choose

In reality, this is the way things go on in the world.
As far as I can see, there is no better model.
It is manifestly the way of life.

Families are destroyed. Lives are lost. The Principle in Being endures. The Principle in Becoming Is. The Principle in Return Is. And the Principle in the Becoming Is. And the Principle in Not Being Is. The family is destroyed. The Life is lost. The Principle in Being Endures. The Principle in Becoming Is. The Principle in Return Is. And the Principle in Not Being Is. The Principle in the Becoming Is not. But The Proverb calls For what is done; And says that the Ten Thousand Things have been done That Way. But we do not have a better example, Because I do not know It, Though I know It very well.

How much difference between "I don't know" and "I will always know"?
Even though both will lead you to the same course of action,
If you devote yourself to both then you will never be deprived of wisdom.
If you tell people to do things for you,
They will only do it for you,
and it will be for nothing.
Do the things you tell people to do and it will be for nothing.
Do your job and you will never miss a chance to tell your boss how they're doing it, or make your house a beautiful place, or stand tall on a hill in a storm, or even talk to someone.
They won't make you do anything unless you want to.
That's just how it is in life.
The only truly great person is one who knows how to tell others what to do.
To tell other people to be more like you
is to make them stray away from the Tao.
The best way to convince others of a successful task is by showing how useful and successful it is.
One who is able to work well with others is able to make others feel secure in themselves.
When other people know how to treat you kindly
you will be able to treat them kindly.
Your work is more successful when you make others feel you have something to contribute.
It is your job to go to the market and walk through the crowds
You will be able to make it feel like a great occasion.
And to make other people happy.
When others think that they are happy

Go forth and be free. Do not feel compelled to say yes or no.
This is knowing when to let go of the striving to control.
When you free yourself from the thoughts of control, then you experience the fulfillment of trust, trust and trust.
If one has faith in the Tao, one will find peace and love with everything.
So take the loss and exhaustion as there is no need to justify yourself, and take advantage of the blessings.
Be very open and open to the Tao.
Learn to trust, but keep your attachments.
Peace and life will come to you
If you are as humble as a ravine,
and as small as the ocean.
So be humble.
Learn to be like the river
or the ocean.
By becoming humble, you become small.
In this way you become like the Valley,
as small as the ocean.
Being humble, you become small.
You become like the Valley,
as small as the ocean.
It is at once the Valley, the ocean.
And as a valley, the ocean.
It is simply a matter of belief.
If you believe it is true,
it is plain to see that you are acting from self-interest.
In truth, if you are following the Tao, you are in harmony with all things.
Peace is found in giving up self-interest.
People will be content, not having to seek for some specific good in order to live and be happy.
And as a river flows down a valley, and in order to be without depth, so you open up and you open up and you open up and you open up, without shutting off and you open up and you open up, without shutting off and you open up and you open up and you open up, without stopping and you open up and you open up.
That is how long the movement of the Tao flows down to the valley.
The valley cannot be closed.
Free yourself from desires.
Give up pride.
Eliminate value.
Move up.

Free of troubles.

Free yourself from desires.
Give up pride.
Eliminate value.
Move up.

Not employ learning, but with this, turn all knowledge
over to the service of peace;
this is the same as cutting back to basics of nature.
The Tao does not like detail, nor does it like goods.
This is why its ancients have said:
A long process is merely to rise to the surface of progress;
it is to blossom and come out once again.
The issue of many things is a measure of where they begin.
The depth of self is the origin of the self;
keeping this is the Tao's main virtue.
The instruments of government cannot be efficacious unless the people are self-owning.
What is the origin of worldly affairs? Everything's a mere transit-way
that leads back to where it began.
Beside being conscious of one's deep nature is being able to recognize one's true nature.
True self-identity is outside the realm of knowledge,
just as worldly knowledge is outside the realm of human knowledge.
Therefore, what is common to all beings is their separation from this world;
and that is the reason they are in harmony with the Tao.
Do not seek to improve, for only when all is done will you be satisfied. Do not seek to simplify, for only when all is done will you be happy. Give up selfishness.
Know your true nature;
Refrain from claiming external good.
Carry on with the ritual of the simplicity.
With this you can be at peace.
Be free of knowledge.
<|endoftext|>
Where the world first came to be,
Something was left behind.
Nothing is finished.
One can't improve a thing after all.
If it's a good, only one should be an object of desire.
If it's a bad, it's best to be a thing.
Do you have a lot of wants?
The more you use things, the more you ruin them.
The more you divide your life, the less you can see the true nature.
When a person becomes aware of his being,
He realizes his true nature.
When you rediscover your original essence
All needs are met.

and everything will be
and
I don't need these
I just have to
let it happen
So it's like this:
There's nothing as incomprehensible as the way
You can't be here to see it happening

Because
It's so simple
You see that
but it's just one small step away
Just one small step away
And it's beautiful
It's there
You have to see it
And
And
And
Just take
It
And let it happen
It happens
The universe
Seems so small
But
It is
Simple
And
It

Is true
The one
That people
want
Must
be
One
I see it happening
Just
one
Small step
From simplicity to perfection
And
A true place
To
begin.

Stop learning, and you lose much! In general, knowledge is hard to master. You may use it, but it cannot be relied on. There are many who have completed it; [Yet] it is simply one. You, alone, need not guard it. The vessel (the Universe) comes into existence. The universe and you are one. The Universe, and you are one: This is a deep but simple truth, which can be examined by everyone. What I say about something called "Self-Knowledge"? It is called by that (name of) "Self-Knowledge". The essence is Self-Knowledge, but there is a later self-knowledge. It is the "one" who

These three functions are to be followed by the external world;
that means there is nothing to fear or to oppose.
To fear is to show fear.
It is better to know that than to fear what is not known.
The wise man conserves this part of himself;
when there is nothing else to preserve,
it is time to go back to what is natural, what is instinctual.
To keep the part, and to direct it, is the job of the Tao.
Appropriately we say "Nature is that, Nature finds that.
"Difficult to discern".
Does the world not reveal it?
How remote the actual existence!
What matters is to know the truth.
To know the truth is to be successful.
When it is time to deal with affairs we say "Traditional perception."
This is Nature's constant
And Natural transformation of the moment
Exceedingly.
It is best, as follows, to lose yourself in Tao, "Going home", "Next door";
Return to one's original nature, "Accepting";
Accepting what is for the benefit of the world,
"Rejecting".
These three are one.
And being greatly impacted by the world
Is not wise. Therefore we say,
"You have done well to look to the Tao,
And to return home."
The Tao that is enlightening, enlightens,
That is constant, that is universal.
This is called beauty, And that is what makes people like you.
When people like you see this, it is good.
The Tao is good, but this cannot be avoided.
That is why we say:
"You have done well to look to the Tao,
And to return home."
This is Tao: it is on its way home.
<|endoftext|>
What Tao is not, It can substitute.
That which does not disturb the senses,
If done nonviolently, returns.
What cannot be apprehended,
Confirms the senses.
What is beyond apprehension,
Superior perception, produces.
Fears and opprobrium alike the reputation of man.
Impartialize these,
To observe again what is natural,
Confound the passions;
Non-action is to be sought, not rejected.
Withdraw from learning,

When mastering learning and morality, you will soon lead people astray and have to rely on institutions. That is only to try to maintain order, and cause confusion. If you have too much learning, the world will be unstable and will fall apart.
Do away with your learning and morality, and you will end up with everyone's support. If you do away with a society, the whole world will disintegrate and then there will be strife. You cannot teach people by lecturing them; the student teaches by failing to comprehend what it means to teach. If you have too much knowledge, you would be confused and could lose one's mind. Then there would be false gods and false music and baroque rites. The scholars in all countries regard the heavenly music, the baroque rites and the baroque rituals as worthless and wanton. When all have enough and want to hoard them, they would like to carve a block of wood and pour a cup of water. That is so foolish, so foolish! One should not make a group of people think of nature and morality and the Tao. What a foolish idea that is! The woodworker uses a block of wood. I do not know what the Tao is. The block of wood is worthless! The block of wood is not of worth. He who can pour water by pouring out the water is of no importance.

Be guided by the Tao:Let men govern their lives by law.
Conquering the law, people trust:
Conquering the law and people will not be at strife:
Conquering the law and the world will not break apart.
Empty yourself;
Empty your vale.
Grow what's in you:
Fill your belly.
Nourish what's in you.
Drank a cup to nourish,
Drowned the cup, and the water rose:
But no pitcher;
Vile, indeed!
The public does not have water.
So, let it come,
Then the world will return to the right path:
And the crafty crowd will see that this is not so:
It doesn't matter how much crafty knowledge
If it comes from under you, as long as it comes
All the way from the

Do you think they see themselves as without talent?
Do you think they look without understanding?
Do you think they have no grounds of merit?
Now they alone are deserving of great disgrace and ridicule.
Better that they should sink to the bottom of their origin:
Those who are aware of their origin must be blind to its turbidity.
The learned are tolerant; the righteous are active;
Those without talent and ideas are like a flock of fish caught in a hurricane.
No one can compel them to do so.
But if they would gain in any way, they must yield.
When they are vested with knowledge they are rather obscure;
But in acting without knowledge they have already the tendency to act.
The place of knowledge implies that they have lost their origin,
and since they have lost their origin they have acquired the foreknowledge.
They have lost the foreknowledge, and are forced to act; but they are far less apt to act as though compelled by it.
The depth of knowledge is in the very obscurity of being illumined.
Truly, the extreme of knowledge is only a sort of blindness.
As to knowledge, it is precisely because it is such that we must be concerned with it that the circumstances of the world depend.
To be one with knowledge is to be one with it not as a fool, but as a knowing man.

The people have lost the ability to be original.
In order to lead others, they must lead with arrogance,
In order to defend others, they must act with arrogance.
What others fear most is that when they reach out for recognition, they feel unsupported,
And what others fear most is that when they promote loyalty, they are abandoned.
The people's selfish motives are felt; this must therefore be their downfall.
The noblemen are gentler than most, and the leaders are milder than most.
The people have no source to rival,
But their attachment to their being has no basis.
The people are gradually blind, and those who dare to be contentious are met with even milder hostility.

Do away with learning and wisdom.
Make the wise men as stupid as the unkind or the uncouth.
How much difference?
Use the land to live, not the bellows.
Virtue is not enough.
Gain enough good looks and trust,
and you won't feel lonely.
If you have true taste, you can make everything right.
To know your roots, to know your 'natural nature,'
to follow the Way of Tao is to be able to be equal to Tao.
Not to know the Way and be not equal to Tao.
Can anyone become so?

Knowing true names

How much difference is there?
The endless journey
And yet to say no and yet not stop
The people need abundance
And only knowing this will let them rest
Even know where to stop
How much the kung-fu to the heaven
Is where you want to be
Can you become the one that can
Knowing where to stop
Can you be free of your own idea

That which does not know what it means
Is hardly worthy to be called in the name of the Lord (the tao).
In the name of the world (koh)
It seems that the latter calls himself.

If you value 'humanity' and 'justice' -

If you value 'art' and 'profit' -
the people will not dare to steal.
Therefore the Dao is equal to each and the same.
Do to the world what you wish to do to yourself:

If the mind and heart are set upon something other than what is truly their own,

If intelligence is excluded from life,
It is not known how far the world is from wisdom.
Knowledge and reality differ from each other.
They are mutually exclusive.
To have knowledge, but never possess it,

If the old world forgets,

If wisdom and knowledge are abandoned,

Simple food must be great, and great food is indifferent.
Not subtle, but complete, indifferent; the essence not to be found.

If the Empire [had] dull people,

If the Empire [had] dull people,

If the Empire [had] dull people,

One ought to be able to have comprehension,
Preserve and cherish the mystic,
And then can act without effort,
Act without desire,
Act without expectation.
One ought to be to be able to know,
To be to know of others;
And then to act without thought,

Because one is to act without desire,
One can act without expectations.
If the government is not clever
Then stupidity will prevail.

Vigorous efforts to regulate affairs, which are directed at the return of the master's old ways, and end in an endless lapse into debasing extravagance, will lead inexorably to the dissolution of the Dao.

All these can be taken care of by the Sage.
All these three paths lead to the same goal.
This goal is not simply non-Existence.
Those who do not see this:
Should they not be greatly confused?
The Non-Existent is the origin of Existence.
There is no room for anything
in the Great System.
Attain faithfulness to all as One.
Those without faith in the Great System:
Would forever be without faith.
Whoever has faith in the Great System:

In that they are free from error and lack of faith.
But faith and lack of faith

Those who have faith in the Great System:

Those who don't:

The Grand Doctrine
The Grand Doctrine is that the Tao is ever-changing, that it changes according to the will of the WayMaster, and that it can be applied to the world in many ways.
The first Principle of TAO
Reason is passive, easy to understand.
The second Principle of TAO
Grasp at simplicity, easy to understand.
The third Principle of TAO
Clarity, easy to understand.
These three Principle are not impartial.
Yielding to what is beyond the will of reason, is to experience extreme peril.
Yielding to what is beyond the will of the Sense is to enjoy true harmony.
Yielding to what is beyond the will of Sense is to be governed by extreme prudence.
Yielding to what is beyond the will of Reason is to fall prey to the Ebb and Flow of all things.
So the sage follows the Way and realizes the Tao.
In opening and closing, learning and ignoring, keeping and unleashing, cunning and cleverness are ways of life for the sage.
<|endoftext|>
The essence of Tao was not shaped; it had no ego.
It was indeed everchanging, so it may be transformed.
These changes are great!
They are beyond what I can explain.
Can I understand it?
Only what can be expressed in simple words.
The way of this Way is a path.
That is not too deep.
If not long, it becomes shallow.
It is not by force
That I become clear.
This is not a belief
But the clarity of THOU.
This is the Way.
A path by which I can travel.
Those who follow the Way also have paths.
The Way is a way; it can never be feared.
The Tao is the Tao; it is beyond understanding.
The Tao is an Image.
Those who do not understand it are not the True One,
But the image of the true One.
So go far.
But don't lose sight of the Way.
Go far, and the Way is easy, too.
If you use it, you can be enlightened.
If you use it, then nothing is impossible.
======================================== SAMPLE 9 ========================================

To have the foresight to know when the Yin flows into the Yang is in itself difficult,
Like climbing up a rope.
This knowledge is obtained through experience.
Now when there is no foresight to know when the Yin flows into the Yang,
There will be ulterior motives.
One who is wise of this truth will know not what to do,
And reject false learning.
He who does not reject learning will be able to achieve his purpose.
<|endoftext|>
Knowing the way is difficult.
Eating all the way is difficult.
Loving all the way is difficult.
Disregarding the way is difficult.
And being good at deceiving others is difficult.
If you are good at deceiving others,
You will not be rejected.

To know when the Positive is flowing and to follow the practice of stillness is an experience much too difficult.
To be enlightened, never blind;
To be good at being right, never critical;
To serve and to make a profit, never selfishness;
To be prudent, never recklessness;
To know in advance that a nation will return to the parental love and faith of the old and love and trust of the new is the experience of an even greater difficulty.
If there is no leader and no ground wherepeople can retreat,
Where will they find the mechanism for their growth?
<|endoftext|>
To know when the light is shining, and to be alert for the necessary counteracting causes - that is to say, the seizing of this circumstance in one's life; to reject the existence of this phenomenon, is the experience of an even greater difficulty.
Without benevolence, without merit, without credit, without profit, without utensil of laissez-faire, without utensil of opposites, no distrust of anybody, no disgrace, no calamity;
without knowledge of Nature.
Without knowledge of Nature, there is great perplexity, great danger, great disaster.
Without caution, one is reduced to ignorance, has no way out of the darkness of one's thinking.
Without knowledge of Nature, and even when there is Nature, it is only that Nature, which is illusory, which is obscure, which is illusive, which is confusing.
Without caution, one is reduced

Lao tzu says,
"RegardAll things as
toils and tears."
Follow the Way;
Endure.
<|endoftext|>
The returning traveler does not weep, the returner does not suffer.Their positions are as clear as rain.
The returning traveler recognizes that the world is not his,the returning returner abides in life and beauty.
Both don't know where they're going.
They realize they are like traveling in the valley, exhausted and worn out.
At the end they both will say, "The way has not given up it."
<|endoftext|>
He who performs his work, does not weep,
He who completes his work, does not suffer.
His being clear is as clear as a bowlful of water.
He who completes his work, does not suffer.
His being clear is like a bowlful of water
He who completes his work, suffers like a single orphan.
The one does not know his end,
The other does not know his beginning,
Neither will he take gain from the other,
Therefore their efforts are a half-measure,
Neither better than the other,
Though their sagas be said to be dear.
Those who follow Tao are so as a flood:
Returning, they are so as an old vessel,
As the dusky rocks from the sea,
As the day to be despaired upon.
The true traveler gives nothing up for the sake of the world,
And therefore he is worthy to be called an "Old-Fashioned Thinker."
<|endoftext|>
Whoever bears the record of Tao does not weep;
Whoever is reborn does not suffer.
The permanence of the Way is like that of the bowl:
The loss of the Way is like that of the rain:
Heavens and Earth together do not know the depth;
Laos and leis know only the shape.
How can one know the depth of a thing
That is obscure?
How can one know the shape of a thing
That is obscure?
Indeed, the present is not to be grasped,
The past is not to be grasped,
The future is not to be grasped.
If the Way forgets
It will soon lose what it is.
Therefore:
Whoever avoids sensing
Indulge in that which is dark.

Then a whole kingdom will follow your guidance.

Be educated; be enlightened.
And your troubles will end.
Be cautious, and your lives will be improved.
Be discriminating, and your miseries will come.
Be selfish, and your sorrow will be forgotten.
Trust your inner vision; it is a gateway to enlightenment.
Benevolence and justice are not enough;
And the people should embrace benevolence as well.
(But) a land of ten thousand chariots cannot sustain being;
(Therefore) the Wise Ones,
By means of the carved block, bring forth the form.
Clay and wood are inadequate;
They ought to be endowed with being.
The Wise Ones - the Ten Thousand Origin Powers

Till then I was only imitating their mind.
Once, however,
I applied it to the matter of man.
A great peace with all, as much as I am.
Beyond being and nonbeing, I abide still as if in perpetual rest.
And now all things move in unison with each other,
Within myself; the ten thousand powers flow with them.
When peace and rest are able,
Then men will be without fault, without sin,
The whole world will have become tranquil.
This is the state of nature.
Return.
<|endoftext|>

Be unselfish; be selfless.
Seek no gain and you will gain; lose nothing and you will lose.
Do not commit fraud and you will not be defrauded.
Always seek justice and you do not have to pay.
Ever seek quiet and you do not have to contend with your conscience.
The people live happy, contented, and peaceful, as if living by their own will.
The wise man, by contrast, indulges his lust for success and his acquisition, and he greatly concerns himself with the wellbeing of his people.
With the people at his disposal, the wise man cares for them simply because they serve him.
<|endoftext|>

Hold yourself aloof: live that way.
Spare yourself; spend that way.
Do not do either:
Do both.
And you will have no necessity for contention,
Nor will you get any fault to account for.
Nervous as an ocean,
All of a sudden, all's

This is the key to enduring.
The Way can be said to be matter-invariant. Matter itself has no name. It is called the "void". What is without name is called the "supreme unity". The world is the "substance of Tao", but Tao is not the world.
<|endoftext|>
When form is abandoned,
Direction & Tao become useful.
Eliminate understanding, discard perception,
Re-establish righteousness, discard charity.
To fulfil humanity's purpose,
Give birth to orphans and widows.
Embrace holiness,
Love is unknown.
Deify images,
Your deep desire is in the void.
Obtain within,
Develop this Block.
Abandon joy and misery,
Dwelling within this Block,
Is limitless.
This Block is the centre of the Tao.
What does this mean?
"Separate yourself from desire and you will attain well-being.""
It's the Tao that abides in you."
<|endoftext|>
In the possession of the body of fruitless restraint, and the impropriety of strife,
Return to tranquillity, abandon all distinctions.
Restrict yourself to that which is natural:
Follow the Tao which is not its own,
Nor is it separate from it.
<|endoftext|>
Remember the ancient custom of separation from all superstition. Let us restrain ourselves from discrimination and distinctions. If we are not in want of such contrivances as greed and desire, we will find that there are no menaces to us in the world. Do we not presume to infer that some men are cunning in seeking to deprive us of them?
Now when such things are given a name, they are called the four false lights. These are the crafty things which we call pretentious, pernicious, curiosities, and mysterious things.
We do not define these things as the return of the Sage. This return is our nature. This return is called the Way. Those who know the Way can be known by them. Those who have renounced all pretensions can be known by those of no pretension.

The superior man, too, does not perforce travel far.
He dwells in the room of mere bones and marrow.
The inferior man lives more luxuriously.
One of these two sets of people follows the one and retreats to the other.
I believe that the inferior man is right, and that the superior man is foolish.
Thus, these two have different flavours.
<|endoftext|>
A superior man avoids all excess.
An inferior man avoids travel.
One who stays far away is neither cunning nor foolish.
An inferior man is clever, but not great.
An ineffectual man is not clever but foolish.
Those at the extremes enjoy food and drinks,
And those who live in houses of luxury.
All have their values, but all are confused.
One overcomes things and dominates others.
He lives as the humble and delights in the commoners' happiness.
He is not clever like the sophisticated.
He is clever like the ruse of craft.
In this the master is not clever.
The master has cunning, but not craft.
The master knows how to use clever, but not craft.

A superior man of eminent character, without treasuring the fame, does not seek the fame, and contends well without getting the skill; an inferior man of eminent character, who considers himself highly, but with the love of fame, and contends not well.
Thus these differ but are not antitheses.
<|endoftext|>
A superior man does not hunt for the fame.
An inferior man seeks fame but doesn't pursue it.
One who hunts for fame wins fame.
One who does not need fame won't need it.
Hence, each is aware of what others are losing,
and accepts that other is being lost.
<|endoftext|>
Truly one of highest class does not value the fame; he is only here for what is on his mind.
Yet, as for a lowly class person, there is nothing to spare for the fame that is on his mind.
A man of highest class does not care about the fame.
A person of the lower class cares for it, and rightly so, but he does not flaunt it.
People in a lower class have fame, but there is

How much better things are,
before man realized how to use them;
how much better there is the state of peace and harmony!
When the whole world feels the same;
when peace and harmony prevails everywhere.
This is not my conception of heaven or earth.
This is not my view of the world.
The eye of man will not see it. The heart of man will not accept it.
Therefore: take it and let it rest, let it grow old,

Since ancient times,
The world has had more food and more water than its needs can supply;
Since antiquity,
We had more moral codes and more codes of conduct.
Since antiquity,
People had received more instruction in how to govern their own lives.
Since antiquity,
People had lived in more harmony and peace.
Since antiquity,
We have learned about those techniques of harmony and peace.
Since antiquity,
No one can see that the universe is governed by reason;
No one can see that the states of people differ according to the variations of "ch'ang"
Since antiquity,
The realization of harmony and peace is what is called a mystery;
There is no other way.
Thus,
In the past,
The human mind forgot the state of being "exotic"
The human mind forgot the state of "sinful"
The human mind forgot the state of "unruly"
The human mind forgot that there is a door through which the myriad beings came
And in the past,
The mental block that a person had on the unrefined qualities made a person forget the "luxuriant"
That person stayed at rest with the selfless heart, to forget the ego and the worthlessness, and to forget the perversion of reality.

Who gives up learning
Will see the fullness of life's myriad wonders
In this way, gain the purpose of a wise person.
Appropriately losing intelligence
Is the way to enlightenment.
Conceal those who have wisdom
From their potential flaws and awaken
"Superior" people who still search for the unruly.
Know the Unsuitable is the way to be.
Appropriately giving up those (whose utility we love)
Is the way to understand the Tao.
Calm and quiet, simplicity beareth nourishment.
Not to have an agenda or purpose
Is the way to see the deep and the subtleties.
Be all-encompassing in how you live.
Do not rule everything.
Hence a wise man
Hath plenty
And some does like the soft pleasures of a pleasant house.
But he, being willing to discard the artificial
Then still more, being receptive to the Tao,
Has plenty
And the natural environment
Love-the sweet path-is found.
Therefore, the wise man
Appropriately pursues the light,
The good things of Tao,
And of all under Heaven,
Conceals the artificial.

If the people stopped following the Way and became dull, confused people would be able to keep quiet for long. Thus the loss of clarity would gradually leave those who did not conform well. After leaving simplicity, the well will develop anew. This is called the Tao.If the sage insists on maintaining his simplicity, he will become inferior. If he keeps following the way he will become enlightened. If he does not adhere to the way, he will be defeated. If the wise are like this, the people's hearts

When you want to obtain your future do so by stealth. Who does these things deserve praise? He who takes them as gifts, only makes the gift the occasion for a more perfect and profound greed. Who does these things deserve hatred? Those who venture to seize for themselves the fruits of the tree of knowledge refuse to join the rites of the Master. Who uses them to change the world -That is not the goal of the Masters. Who wishes to do what needs doing - Comes with it a response.

He who gives willingly will be successful.

Leave selfishness behind, be content to share,
and soon you'll be free of the source of troubles.

If your allotted being is inadequate, then even if you learn to cultivate,
your destiny is endangered.
For selfishness is the root of disorder.
Not learning is the root of wisdom,
Not cleverness is the root of judgment,
And thieves and robbers are the root of violence.
Therefore the Sage says:
Manifesting his being,
to him desire can never arise.
Suffering and natural disorders can be settled by non-action.
Not devouring knowledge, and without knowledge,
To him distress is the root of everything.
To him mourning is the root of happiness.
He who gives up self-interest is content to abide with his fellows.
Therefore one can attain self-centeredness,
without self-interest,
and with complete non-arising
non-sensuality,
and complete non-self-interest
and non-action.

If you possess enough arms and legs,

Lose self-righteousness,
And the people will recover an interest.
Give up shrewdness,
And you will keep thieves and robbers at bay.

Going without desire is to be free of troubles.
Going with the Tao is to find rest within peace.

Put an end to 'intelligence' and become one with emptiness.
Hold to the wisdom of "One-ness,"
or start afresh with cleverness, and you will become enlightened.
You will not become 'divided' by desires, and you will not have thieves and robbers to worry about.
But knowing this will make you: Way beyond looking for attention in the present life.
Rather than going to the image, stop thinking of it as a picture.
Rather than going to the 'thing,' stop thinking of it as something new.
Rather than being 'deep,' it will be 'fading.'
You don't want to have worries in the present life.

They say: The four wise men obtained the Te. How do they
appear, fit themselves to the Te? The Te embraces
them with so much unceasing help
that they never tire of it. How does it respond to them
as a vessel? It keeps them close; It sustains them in long
shutters; It rolls and strains and keeps them in balance;
It makes no note of anything
at all. Then are things completed, and there is no more need
for undue efforts; then the people will
benefit a hundredfold. How it is that they embody
the Te and no

The greatest virtues are those that are flexible.
How can virtue be flexible? The Virtue of this world is

How does Tao bend? By its own motion.
Who can do it better than that? They can do it
by seeing. If they can't see, they can do it by
being there. If they can't do it,
it's not going to be done. For even the highest

It is better to be ignorant of one's own goodness
(Wu, the Great one),
than to be enlightened of the true beauty of things.
If I be desirous to become enlightened,
I have but lost the flower of what is true beauty.
Therein lies the key to my enlightenment.
Where there is the natural law,
the crooked will not hinder others.
Where there is the good law,
evil will not avail me.
Thus, if I wish to obtain the treasure of happiness
I must have without learning.
I must cast off my material possession,
and cast out of sight of the lustrous.
The book is the thing that the eye sees but the eye finds nothing but darkness.
It is only by being free from greed and desire that I can grasp the treasure of happiness.

It is better to be ignorant of virtue than to be enlightened.
To become enlightened is to lose the grace of virtue.
It is wiser not to keep to the law of merit.
Where there is virtue there is virtue.
Where there is merit, there is loss.
How can you know the intention of virtue?
Only by being without desires.

In the Sage,
One who is free of desire is aware of his nature;
One who is free of desire comprehends the nature of All.
That which is within him-
can be merged with him-
is thus beyond his ability to perceive,
and he reverts to the nameless.
The subtle essence
is invisible;
It is how to know one's own nature and self.
And if one is not free of desire,
Then one does not have to search for things.

Take the learned man's empire and he acquires it.
That is how you are able to keep the Empire!
