The Sage is profound, Hesitant and hesitant; humble and weak; Steady and wandering; Hypnotic and disordered; Abstain, all-encompassing, Without beginning and without end, as the invisible Way, Not merely dominating, but imposing.If the Sage were to tread on this Way, it would outlast him.That is why:
The elder generation never left them alone;
From infancy to old age they were always empty;
The original human being became unstable;
The physical man and the human soul were restless;
But they were all gradually stabilized by the Way.
And yet their original condition is such that they can be kept calm.
So the wise are very careful,
By sheer diligence, to make sure that they are never filled to the brim.
<|endoftext|>
A senior head of an inferior group committed himself to the same ideas, like a bard who acts on behalf of an audience.
Empty, indifferent, hesitant, hidden, restless, and disordered, he has his own principles and uses them, and his group follows his advice.
His group is not a group to be taken lightly by someone else.
To be alone is to be an exception, a dreamer, not simply a silent observer.
An unoccupied mind that would keep one in the cycle is a bit too proud of itself.
For a group that stays well satisfied is not in a rush to get older.
Not in a rush to get older, well, it is about time you retire and become active.
<|endoftext|>
The Sage is profound, hesitant and cautious. He is confident and unfailingly nonconfrontational, like a stream crossing a cold river. He seems not to be able to move at all, as if he's left behind. Still, he continues to move, and his movement is even more unexpected. He is utterly free of expectation.
He walks astride a single cord, and has no destination. He has no goal. The Sage feels free from desire. He is constant and does not change. If he loses his mind, who will want to claim him?
Those who are not careful like that find no space in themselves, and those who find no space in themselves are deprived. Therefore they maintain the principle of flexibility, what they call 'acting according to instinct,' and a sense of stillness,

the wise elder are not learned, It is because they do not have a mother. Therefore the sage is shrewd and careful not only to be skilful in following the skilful, But in becoming skilful and careful not only to be skilful in following the skilful but in making a wise choice to follow the skilful.Were it not so, who would believe what the sage says?He is most tranquil and tender as the ice which gives out nothing but its melting point, Disinterested in things as if they were not his business and business alone, Indifferent as if he did not see the usefulness of anything and in his inability to use anything he could not use it, One who knows how to be in balance with the situation to find a spot at the right time for emerging, One who does not seek to possess himself and to force others to follow his ways, One who is always patient, and will be soon as produced.
<|endoftext|>
The wise and mature grow old without a mother,Therefore the Master never loses her presence.A skilful and alert man makes a deliberate retreat without intentions.Yet, he will slip away again.For there is something going on behind him;It may be concealed, yet he remains.Hesitant like a spring that gives no stir;Understated like a quiet valley;It is as if not all things exist;Heavenly, filled with beauty;It is as if no-thing exists;All these words he conceals,But can say:I am invisible, I am good,I am great.This is the way of not having one's self full.Even the hidden must be seen.If one doesn't sense his form,How would he be preserved from decay?To remain unmoved, not moving,Carrying on without personal ambition,One's life will remain beautiful.Not the life of self-interestBut the life of beauty.His self never fails,Only his life is preserved.
<|endoftext|>
The wise man never becomes old. Therefore, he does not wear out.The very skilful are wary of not being feared.The untried are unsure of what they know.They are afraid of nothing,And only because there is nothing,Will they not be afraid.Because they are not afraid,They are not afraid to be left alone.If they were to be afraid,What advantage would there be

The superior Te cannot be defined. It is a mystery.We can only describe it:Desolate as if walking through the winter mountains. Unquiet like melting ice on the ocean.Effeminate as if walking through the muddy valley.Expansive like ice cores melting in the earth.Simple as if the whole is made of one substance.Weak as if melting ice;Simple as the surface as if muddy.Therefore,If one is discerning without getting distracted,Enlightened without being led astray,Produce without becoming depleted,Absorb without becoming exhausted,Avoid the excessive oneness.

The goodly traveller cannot be explained.
Its appearance cannot be improved upon.
For it does not comply with established fashion.
We can describe it thus:
Lonely like the remote winter border;
Inscrutable like an ice-carving valley;
Simple like ice-achievement;
Receptive like ice as you begin to melt;
Gentle as ice chips;
Deep as melting glass;
Firm as ice blocks;
Simple as ice in motion;
Solid as ice,
And complete, making no more,
The vast emptiness will gradually open.
One who stays focused on this blank blank,
Being without expectation,
Will soon clear the emptiness.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is mysterious,
There is nothing it can explain.
It is profoundly different from conventional knowledge
And so cannot be described.
It is as though one's heart were hard and cold as ice,
hurtled as ice over muddy waters,
quiet like ice as melting chips fall from a melting ice-cream,
open as ice on the surface of melting ice,
unpressurized like ice for some use,
pure like ice at the bottom of a vat,
inert as ice flowing slowly,
pure as ice in streams,
solid like ice in use,
active like ice in quans,
calm and steady as ice in stillness.
The humble stream is gradually emptying;
It becomes full as ice sets.

Hence the one with wisdom, when he uttered words of Truth, seemed like a fool.When he learned how to speak, he seemed dull.When he lost the feeling of the Tao, when he would rather have to live according to the way of Tao,He seemed a downcast man.When he was forced to go out of the carriage, as a coward, when he lost the will to get going, as a man of bad will,As a fool who cannot control his inner qualities.There was one who could know the spirit of the Tao,He who could hold onto the Tao like a cord.A person who didn't like to change, could not go through hardships.A person who could grasp the destiny of the Tao, could grasp it like the knots of rope.The Tao would then smile upon him.

Therefore, one should know the nature of the great man, in order to be able to understand the nature of the great man's subjects.Hesitant, and not thinking about the stream; Secluded, and knowing nothing; Proficient, and opening up the world; Reticent, and learning the workings of the gods; Unattached, and greatly benefiting the people.One who is truly noble is never like a commoner. To be noble is not like commoner. The "noble" can differ from the "commoner." Being different from the "commoner," one is always on the high path.

Being wise is not to be regarded as "artificial," nor "artificial wisdom."For both are depending on an uncarved block,
and the very method of carving is to take in hand the uncarved block:the block is taken and carved.It is [the Wise Person's] task to straighten it as though he were crossing a river.He is like one who walks the way of Nature.He is not biased, nor does he wish to conform.He is ready to remain without prejudice;to change and to break all pretense.A Sage knows what is needed for each thing to proceed.In passing [it], he avoids hindrances.Though he pass through many places, yet he remains unfired.He can keep for long the state of restlessness, and therefore keep the world.He who goes with Tao, gets the long-held and durable;And those who follow the Way, are ready to endure, and not to abandon [it].Therefore, the highest virtue, the highest good, the highest virtue is the fruit of Natural Energy.The only source of that virtue is the Way.It is by this that everything, which is natural, can be improved upon.
<|endoftext|>
Only ineffable Virtue is sufficient to preserve the Whole.Without Exceleffable Virtue the Whole is lost.Only by EvFebable Virtue the Whole can be brought back to life.Without Exceleffable Virtue, without Life, all that is there has no Power.Excelable Virtue is of Eternal Essence, thus it returns to the ancient form of the Whole.Eternal Eternal Eternal, it is there without Modify.It then becomes perfect in the world of Being.Only a man of great and Constant Virtue can hold firmly to the enduring.To abandon it and be without Power, is to perish.A man of great and constant Virtue can achieve all things; He is distinguished by [favor or) without.For he makes use of the Principle of Natural Power; that is to say, he achieves perfection in All Things.In this Way his Emptiness is manifested.If there is any Matter which is to be troubled, he shuns it, and without fear remains unmoved, unmoved, and unaffected by all.This is the fruit of the Tao.

When words are used to describe a thing, you name it not the one which exists, but what was in reality the origin of that thing.
When subtle thoughts dominate your mind, you name it not the substance of your mind, but its fourfold quality:
- Mystery, a violent inner mystery.
- Haunting darkness, the source of your own origin.
- Great laughter, the uncarved block.
These four parts form the formula of the DAO.
The Master never lets his mind become occupied with the substantial. He cares for it only with that outer focus he seems to have set in, the un-fixed penetrating wisdom of desire.
We use words to describe the DAO.
The DAO is obscure, yet the perception of it is complete.
The DAO is vague, yet the comprehension of it is complete.
These four qualities are like water filled with the magic essence.
The DAO is shadowy, yet the awareness of it is complete.
The darkness and the brilliance of the DAO cannot be grasped or defined.
They are beyond knowing, and there is no beginning or ending.
The DAO is solid and lasting, yet when brought together it is like the melting essence of ice.

The THOU acts without motive and does not assume its own power.
It always remains in the background, and it never lets go of its own truth.
It is, in a way, like a river that flows into the abyss.
The Dao is limitless, yet there is nothing left to be defined.
It is the ultimate Image.
The THOU is immeasurable, yet it cannot be categorized.
It is the fundamental Image of THOU.

The man of renown has lost his fame;
He stands out from ordinary folk,
Graces which the common people take for granted.
Fasting, a popular convention.
Disorder, by one's own creation.
Difficult, by the passage of time.
Excess, by the way one acts.
At his residence, there is tranquillity;
A flowing river brings clear water;
A mirror reveals what is in one's heart;
A body, clear and full of life;
A valley, full of good music;
A house, strong and sturdy;
An existence, simple and unformed.
This is the Way of the Sage:
He treats the world like this.
<|endoftext|>
The man of renown has lost his renown;
His person and demeanor are out of all society;
The common people regard him as the bad omen.
To keep away from food and drink, like a cloud that settles in the morning.
Aware of danger, like people advancing towards each other.
Understanding danger as passing time.
To act as though there is nothing to see, like dwelling in a stream in springtime.
Like a mirror, a stream of clear water.
Like the valley of a clear pond, a mind of calm, quiescent.
Like an empty valley, like a thick clay floor, a mind of quiet deep activity, an empty place, more than just an empty valley.
This is called the subtle way of the way: "It is plain and then murky. It is still and then deep. It is small and then big. It is gentle and then hard."
It is calm and then clear.
That is why tranquillity settles in and causes peace.
It is big and then soft.
That is why simplicity abounds and gives shape to everything.
This is called the method of the Wise Person:
He does not seek for any substance or work,
Nor does he care about such matters.
He does not seek to be learned nor learned.
He loves these things without trying to know them,
And consequently, he is free from blame or judgement.
He cannot see the purpose of words and so uses a little truth.

Since it is said:
"The well-to-do can be told in two ways, one is what they are,
the other is what they wish to be"
The well-to-do are subtle and keen-sighted
They are like the dusky water in the river (the unnamed water of life).
They are elusive and shy like one who cannot see his neighbour
Their hesitations make them look out of place
They are downcast like one who is passing by
They are wistful like one who has lost something,
like a valley That is yet to be filled
Their spirit is raw as if cut in pieces
Their mind is blank as if melting
This rawness is an uncarved wood
This uncarved wood is the root of every kind of wood
It is the secret and the doorway to all the qualities of the world
The well-to-do know this (Yaoi)
Therefore, the well-to-do are simple and simple-hearted
Yet, can be found in every valley!
When bad situations arise, they must be resolved by patience and moderation
A true leader is as ordinary as the left over food they toss in the garbage
They are easy to agree with, yet are rough as the end of a sword
But still, they are not bad food
They are in agreement with everyone, yet not trying to force their views
Yet, they have no egocentric ideas.
This is the easiest way to work.
This is the way to let the country go.

Thirty-five years ago, we have heard of sagas and tavernas:* There were nameless things in them, they appeared frightening to man, although they were common in nature; they appeared as yet unknowable, they were kept long. The wise man regards the man of his own accord as the least capable of all men, yet he seems to have a notion of knowledge of everything, and he seems wise to all who approach him. He thinks of the superior man as a simple-minded man, an uncouth man, like a vale which does not yet light, like a plain and empty valley. Is this to compare with that of the man of thirty-five years ago? It is precisely because he had no conception of what a 'firm' was in which he could recommend his approbation of the actions of the great men, that, because he could not recommend them to the judgment of others, he always treated them as dutiful guides for others. I must first of all show him to him which manner to support his greatest vices;--they are not more difficult than the truths which I have set forth, so that he can present his own propriety to the people. To decide affairs, he will tell the remainder to be said. To act according to his own dutiful character, he will bring it to such a climax that, though he would strive to shine, he should not be outdone by others in their ability to perform their functions. Thus, he never acted with energy, such as a man of his age, who like the others, had finally obtained the mastery of the past. Those times were clear, plain and therefore spring up again.

Now there are the common men;
They are seemingly horrible, in that they are alarming and frightening,
Though they are so unknown they appear to be difficult to comprehend.

To be insightful means losing one's thoughts. But this is not sufficient for enlightenment, one must focus on the inward core. Think about the inner. There are many ways of speaking. Try to bring the core of the words to mind. I know that things may happen: There will be change in everything; There will be emergence of a new birth; There will be a flood of chaos; The events will be sorted and dealt with; The Earth's equilibrium will be set.
To concentrate on the inner core is to hold on to the turbid waters of faith; it is not enough to be open and receptive. It is precisely for this reason I think that it is better not to be bewildered. How do I know that what happens is as the (inner) truth? It is simply because I know that it is so.

Be decisive and penetrating
To abandon wisdoms
Is inadequate;
to lose your views
Is not enough.
In an unraveling
There are bright, bright angles
So penetrating that one cannot block them out;
In having up high a watershed
One cannot try to contain it;
In the beginning there are things:
Something is spotted with color,
Something occurs to the light.
In things:
There are brightness and turmoil,
And newness.
Here I care not about lightness
Since I have the lightness
Which I follow not:
In everything,
There is simplicity,
Because simplicity (Tao) follows not
(Tao) follows not:
All things do not get confused,
The flood does not come
Because there is tranquility:
There is clarity
Because it does not flatter itself with clarity:

They were to those of us who are taught
That there is such thing as changeable substance, and that things in the universe
Are subject to change as such,
The past is indeed an obscure source of our knowledge,
But when the present is too dark to perceive,
we are compelled to resort to the past,
To investigate what is happening in the present.
A wise one observes and follows the past as it is;
In measuring the rise and decline of things
We find that things exist and change.
This we shall take into consideration,
In our researches concerning what is happening
We are not in a position to make predictions,
But as things happen they seem to us
All things appear to us differently,
In their action they are simple,
Clear and simple;
And we come to expect from them
But because we are troubled, that they are happy.
Those who are deep and penetrating
Will be keen to complete their study,
While we who only exist
Will be thoroughly ourselves and ready for everything,
We are ready for the future as well as for the past.

The wise are old. They hold their knowledge in their hearts, And ever know their heart. They follow the example of the old, So they are not dispirited by change. The change, indeed, is without beginning, But comes as a surprise. They are who they appear, the springtime to a populace. How do I know that they differ from the masses? By this difference. For on one side they are great, On the other they differ. I know that they differ on one side from the masses; On the other, I am one with them. Therefore this is known. I know the classes and distinctions of the masses. I know the distinction. I do not know their differences. But I receive what happens on this.

A foolish person cannot do this.
He abandons what he does not need, to the end of knowing the limits of all this
A wise person knows where she is and who she belongs to.
She always acts without profit, of her own volition.
She knows when to lose her authority, because that is when the others lose their minds,
She is aware of her choice and cannot but be ungrateful.
There is no one who can be truly Tao.

"Henceforth, Great Simplicity shall be transformed into subtleties. Henceforth, Great Integrity shall be defiled into dissolution. Henceforth, Great Appropriation shall be abandoned into absence. Henceforth, Great Simplicity shall prevail in a state of great Stupidity."
Therefore, the ones who (the great Simplicity) employ subtleties to reduce darkness, cease (to be) dark.
Those (great Integrity) who desire (the loss of) purity, lose their virtue (of purity). Those (great Ego) who desire (the loss of) splendor, lose their penetration. Thus one in the presence of Great Integrity, one in the presence of Great Simplicity, one in the Presence of Great Integrity, and so on, will ever exist.
If, however, some few remain, this (struggle) will last for a long time. This (struggle) of some few will (in some way) bring about the demise of other things. Who can be good at management, then? Good at managing can be great; wise leaders are good at being wise. Following the Tao, the people are good at being happy. Back then, people were good at the process of being born.
When people are good at the process of being happy, the family is good at being family. When the family is good at being happy, everything is good for the country. When everyone is good at being happy, then it can be said that everything will be good for the time when Tao is known.

In his subtle essence he is too delicate to fully appreciate.
He has too many details to describe in any detail.
Words will not adequately describe the full subtleness of this essence.
It is dim and vague, indistinct and obscure.
It seems to be composed of things that seem to be solid, solid and solid.
It seems to be made of various materials, but it seems to be made of no substance.
It is as though it were moving quietly but it seems to be waiting for someone else.
It is as though it were incomplete as though it were incomplete.
It is so free as to change as though it were lacking,

It is something that cannot be comprehended; it can only be compared to the surface.
Something like ice will not melt easily, and it is too delicate to be illuminated.
It is a constant wayfarer but it seems to be going nowhere.

For those who know The Laws of Nature, they can practice them without any harm.For those who despise them, they are only indifferent.Therefore they have combined them in a single person,The Principle -The ultimate.
This is why they name themselves " The One Being " - they are the ultimate!How could they add the next?: they are like ice that has set! How could they lose the next: they are like a moving boat! How could they decline the next: they are like a people. The people are noble. They are alert. They are careful. They have no anxiety. They live on their own. They are different from the others in their ways.
In their actions and their life, they are without arrogance, without the desire to succeed, so as to please the above- mentioned persons.
In their actions, they are without ambition, which alone would lead to disaster.
In their actions, they are without having desire. The natural mind is the best. This will not lead to disappointment.
Its action follows naturally.
<|endoftext|>
He who knows the natural law (The Laws of the Universe) can follow them without harm.
He who regards his actions (his actions of Reason) as having effects (effects of the Laws of the Universe) cannot be indifferent.
And he is content to remain One.
Therefore they are combined:
The Great One (the Principle)
With all in his empire.
His Name, "the Great One" - he calls himself the Great One.
How could he stop at (the next) Result?
He is at once great and great.
For the sake of the One,
He is in equilibrium (between great and small).
Therefore, he is always gentle with himself,
and dotes greatly on All Things (Heaven and Earth).
He is always alert and alert,
indistinctly aware of the nature of All Things,
and has no faith in the nature of the world.
Because of his Nature he can act without desire,
and will accomplish his tasks without expecting any return.
He has no fear, and therefore he will be a model of balance and tranquility.

Travellers on the Inner Path know when they have it.
They are at peace.
Because they are at peace, Tao doesn't intrude.
Travelling by Tao, a man follows the great Tao.
Travelling by the Great Tao is a fair journey.
A fair journey is no journey at all.
Travelling by the Great Tao

When it is the ultimate Way, Tao is not the way.

Words alone cannot properly express this profound mystery. The Inner Life in words cannot express it.
The Inner Life in words is like a great pot, a vessel that does not last long. It is the place where order is made but not kept, where words come, but do not dwell on them.

The Sage is mysterious, elusive, and subtle, possessing such force that it appears to be invisible. His mind is neither fixed nor confused, or either mind nor body, or both.

As he is moving, he has no fixed boundaries, as he is moving, he is never stopped, as he is the still, as he has neither a view nor a view, as he is moving, he has neither activity nor apathy.
In his mind, and in his body, he is open and receptive, he is plain and free from knavery, he is simple and free from extravagance, he is just and free from cruelty, he is unassuming, as he is open and free from outward appearance, he is without desiring, yet it is precisely because he is unassuming, that he can appear beyond all expectation.

into their place, in a locked room,
in a faraway valley,
in an unknown rainforest,
just a tiny speck of rock,
mere, as in a valley,
yet as if they were all water.
Simple as the source of their
placidity,
knowing their hidden hidden roots,
they endured,

That is why the ancient masters knew how to get things out of chaos and blow, and how to get things into order and gradually grow.
These are universal natural laws, and the way to universal natural laws is to not seek to get and extend.
Who can afford to go out in the open to see and be seen?
Those who are like this are naturally healthy.
Those who are like this are naturally receptive.
Those who are like that are naturally discerning.
Those who are like that are naturally sincere.
Those who are like that are naturally upright.
Those who are like that are naturally righteous.
Those who are like that are naturally subtle.
Those who are like that are naturally well-established.
Those who are like that are naturally receptive to the world.
They are naturally receptive to the world.
This is why ancient masters can know the difference between appearance and essence.
The ancient masters can know the difference between the signs of heaven and earth and life in general.
They can also know the difference between the ordinary and the greater.
They can also know the difference between faith and reason.
They can also know the difference between right and wrong.
They can also know what is fair and what is unjust.
They can also know what is ancient and what is new.
Because they know this, they can always guard themselves from external temptations.
In their minds, they do not dwell on the material world.
They do not look at flowers and jewels.
Because they do not look at them, they can live according to the path of Nature.
<|endoftext|>
Though they were known to be supreme among all under Heaven, still, they were exceedingly subtle, and had no utterance, Nor had they any appearance or likeness to the visible nature.
They were lost in Tao, Their aërial nature was hidden.
Were it not so, It could be the first of all visible things, And is the primal beginning of all other ancients.
They therefore were unknown to the world; The common people must be the originator of all that is.
How the wisest man could be known is beyond me; He would not dwell on every thing, So all beings should be kept within their limits.
That they were ever so dim is not from Nature, But is to be found in their mystery.
The simple is the origin of the highest; The wonderful the first of all beings.

When one accepts the earth is as though for the first time as a new motherling,
when one lets go of greed and desire, as though one accepts all life in return,
when one lets go of strife and contention, as though one accepts all beings in return,
then everything will be in the force of their natural equilibrium.
Whoever has attained enlightenment and mastered all hidden truths
will not cling to life's strong force.
Because there is nothing to contend with, life is constantly renewing itself.
When one rejects selfishness, greed and delusion,
then one can understand everything.
One who has rejected self-interest, greed and delusion
will never be led astray.
He will not be distracted by this world's silly and superficial objects
and he will not be confused by the ways of the masses.

While Tao moves ever upward like a wind, its light is dim and dim.
When it is lost it returns.
That is how the Tao and Tao alone never lose sight of its natural beauty.
If you take your energies and desires out of this world, there is room for all things.
If you are quiet and still, all things breathe.
If you lead and carry things lightly, things respond with ease.
When you're free from aspirations and desires, all things can evolve their own way of being.
If you abide by this the world will gradually change.
When the universe changes, so will your life.
The Tao is like a broad valley and the Tao way is like the natural flow of life.
Being unaware of life is like being confused by the world.
If you do not like the Dao, return to your natural simplicity.

Tao's way is to be smooth, high, and smooth. It is not new, yet it is unchanging.
How can it be called "un-old"?
Only when it rolls down will it be seen.
Where it rolls down, it may appear as being very old.
Where it rolls down, it may appear as very old.
Tao is to be light and easy to move. It is not new, yet it remains undiminishing.
How do I know that it is unchanging?
It rolls down without ceasing.
If it rolls down it appears to be very old.
If it rolls down it appears to be very old.

It is just as well that the remote specialists, who dwelt on an abstraction of the universe, knew its essence.
When they talked about it, they did not talk too much.
They said: "We are like ice gradually emerging from the ocean, and [it] seems to be in a state of sudden sudden moderate calm. We seem to be crossing a stream in a state of peaceful calm, as though ascending a level road in a calm atmosphere."
Those words would not be good enough for them.
What they meant is:
They seem to feel lonely, but there is another world to see.
They seem to know the mysterious whole, but they have something to talk about.
They seem to be a shadow over everything, but they have something to be watched over.
"It is plain that that which makes them come back and forth so, is something else."
What they would like is less to own, than to be close to the ocean, to know what other side of the ocean is like, to have eyes that are always open, and to be good neighbors.
Those who embrace the subtle path do not keep the fame to themselves,
because it is at the same time repugnant.
Therefore they say:
"Of what we say we do not know."
When it is safely spent away and can not be taken,
it is better to keep it as a sign.

The Ancients Who lived in wisdom did not try to hold together what had come about through flux. They were like a thin film; they appeared to be ice, but they were moving through a still and calm valley.
They did not stand out as they moved, they were undistinguished; they seemed to feel a sadness of not being.
What they saw, they had been hidden from. And it was a mystery to them: they were so far ahead that they could not be seen by anyone.
They were so obscure that anyone who visited them might try to follow them.
They did not claim to be most enlightened, or most wise, or most righteous; that had no value to them.
It had been enough for them to be average to look forward to the next step, though they should know when to stop and keep calm.
The nameless something is only an infant: it gives birth to something.

The Tao is said to be: "Soft like the waters of the great pool."
It is hidden, yet it is able to satisfy our needs.
He who lives in Tao has nothing to hide.
Therefore he may see what is naught, without distortion.
He may know what is there, without concealing his true self.
He may be free of repulsion, without crossing the threshold of blindness.
He may become aware of truth, without concealing truth.
He may dwell on the unlimited in life, without crossing the threshold of years.
He may die contented with simplicity.
He may transform his body to become a garment.
Transformed by the Tao into clothes, he can be transformed into the world.
He may be reborn as a newborn child, not knowing yet of its destiny.
It may be said: "The Tao has a deep, deep pool that it rolls to."
(It is the natural base of the universe.)
The universe is the Tao's water.

When the Tao is once born
it seems to be an infant but takes its place in the world.
It does not act, it is natural.
It is without form, nor is it rustic, nor is it feminine.

I have always known the Way as being new, yet hard to conceive
as the beginning of all things.
It seems uncarved and flexible, Yet how flexible it seems when it rebounds upon our senses.
It seems as though it could be any place!
It may be small, like a valley, It may be big, like a mountain-heap,
It may be mild, like water, It may be strong, like a bellows.
The constant
motion of it is as motionless, Nor all our actions may be forced.
Through this I see what the Way is all about.
It is the invisible and yet it is invisible.
The Tao is invisible, but it is subtle.
The Way is mysterious, but it is universal.
It is all-pervasive,
the undying sea of life.
We may know it as a child,
it can be lost, yet it may be found.
I can say:
I have always known the Tao as hidden and yet manifest
it seems as infinite.
It is hard to define yet its form

The taoist does not seek out fulfillment in what happens, because life is constant. He does not try to achieve beauty or purity by being careful about the appearance, because beauty and purity are always present. He does not seek fulfillment by being concerned about what others think, because life is always renewing itself. He does not try to prove that he is right, because everyone will be right.
Because he does not seek what others seek, he is never denied.

Like ice with flowing water; Clear as crystal; So expansive and yielding! And they find like streams In the winter, like the stream in spring, Like the work of a chariot along a channel! Like a mirror within a mirror, In spite of being dark! It is plain and noble, It is square and thick. The broad and far-reaching! As melting ice! Though the sharpness of it being sharper than sharpness, In spite of being great, In spite of being great, In spite of ever-great, In spite of ever-great! Those who hold to the true nature of the universe do not boast of their original characteristics.
Because their original characteristics are as obscure as the depths of the sea,
we can only describe their appearance.
They are also difficult to distinguish from the obscureness of their appearance.
Not to distinguish them from their appearance, leaves the description of their appearance.
To be unmoved by sensation in the superficial appearances,
grasp the essential mystery of subtle essence.
Who will follow the way of the way of the way of the spirit of the way of the spirit of the olden days?
Those who embrace the subtle essence of the universe.

The ancients lived and loved the formless and thus did not seek to possess it.
The Tao that people know is formless.
The simplicity of the ancients was called obscure.
And if they could not be discerned, what is it about their presence?
They avoided conflict and attempted to live peacefully with the world, like one who rolls a net through a gale and sets it up before the next wind.
What they were trying to do was to spare the world, so as not to intervene in it.
What they did not do was to want to, so as not to interfere in the world.
The ancients are here to be regarded as a wave that rolls downstream to the sea, or as someone who rolls up a gate before a gale.
What an ancients did is this:
They learned to become the simple one, and not to take up arms to conquer the world.
They learned to experience the mysteries of light, and not to devote their life to worldly conquest.
They learned to become quiet and receptive, and not to wish to change the world.
They learned to turn the changeable into constant, and to obtain the transformation of the changeable into constant.
All those who accept the Tao of the ancients do not seek to conquer the world by force.
They do not wish to rule.
Thus, the following conditions are fulfilled by a Tao traveler:
He is in constant equilibrium
He chooses the path of the present
He is sincere
He is beyond all desire
He moves on
All these happen spontaneously
All those who receive the Tao of the ancients
Are shaped by the Tao of the Tao of the ancients,

He is able to give a proof and not a claim.
Because he does not try to impress others, no one can force him to conform to conventional wisdom.
Because he does not consider himself superior, no one can tell him that he does not exist.
Those who do not emphasize their ability, do not play the role of an established image.
The one who plays the role of an established image never asks to be loved.
When he has loved someone, no one will dare to reject him.
He does not claim credit for what he does.
He is impartial, and holds to none, but remains so nonetheless.
He doesn't rush to embrace and press his will on others, so that he will end up without work.
He does not value his own life.
He does not value the recognition of his accomplishments.
He does not try to enhance his condition by profiting from them, because they are already in good working order.
Because he keeps to himself, his potentiality and mobility expand and develop inexhaustibly.
It is because he does not wish to show off that he is a man of substance, that he is also a man of substance.
A substance is one who stretches and adapts as well as adapts to the newness.

And reaches one's full potential.
To the Master, the totality is serenity;
A firmness that is restrained,
That is durable.
He is a Sage without name;
With content to be himself.

I will illustrate it by a passage from old masters' teaching.
They know to advance the belly and reduce the head to the back, they know to withdraw the broad side of the body from the front, they know to rectify the sharp corners of the stomach and reduce the belly to the breast.
They know to lay down no hands and place no credit on not faring deeds, they know to be quiet without yielding to any person, they know to be open without murmur, they know to lead others without interfering, they know to receive favors without concealing them.
Having finished the speech of the Tao, it is only then do they not claim the credit of an elder-genius.

and develop themselves without holding onto the traditions.
They are not proud,

They are like uncarved wood.

Those who follow the ancient Way are modest,
They know how to blow out the belly,

They do not wish to contend for anybody.
Those who follow the ancient Way are more helpful than sharp tools,

Those who value the simplicity of the way of the Cosmic Mother are completely unfallec to the sharp distinctions of distinction,
as though they were one.
Those who glorify the harmony of the Cosmos do not seek distinction or pride,
as though they were one.
These two aspects are one: harmony and harmony are one
unflattering and obscure
contemplative and detached
tender and receptive
uninterested in glory, honor, rewards
there is nothing

The established man seeks to define himself by being defined by him;
the follower of the feminine essence seeks to be like nature in reverting and returning to herself,
as though they had no difference or bias.
Their one self-nature is like the undistinguished bedding of a profound, gentle note, like a river dew on the threshold of Spring.
Who can put their point and return to the murkier origin of simplicity?
Who can bring it ever closer to their intrinsic essence?
The Enlightened are often silent, only responding with silence, but few in number, as though they were all on the same boat or on the same river.
The more they go, the more they seem to stumble, as though they were sinking in the sea.
The more they emphasize, the more they seem confused.
The more they try to define, the more they seem to wander, as though made of straw.
The more they take up ownership, the more they seem to be drifting.
This is called being open, being subtly and subtly.
The way of the subtle is unknowable, there is no time limit.
The more you do this, the more you gain.
The more you do this, the more you gain.
The one who is not lead by hard life will not learn, the one who has a good reputation will not take risks, and the one who knows when to stop and be done will have longevity.
Hence the wise keep quiet, and so only utter sounds in the mind, and calm the mind and accomplish things.
They don't overdo it, and so they work for ever and ever.
A mind that is open and unforced is like a calm spring that rests in a deep spring, a sound springwater.
As deep as it is it is soft and resonant, and nourishes everything in its depth.
It brings out and brings to the surface and changes everything

When a man's Tao, the subtle way, is clearly defined, [the wise] can not fail to see and understand. Because they appeared obscure they cannot be clarified.They have no master, nor ruler, neither knower nor ignorant.They are therefore reluctant to play a part in the affairs of men. For, if they could take part in the affairs of men, they would not wish to destroy themselves, so they are happy to retire.Since they know well the multitudinous powers of Heaven, they can be trusted not to tamper with them.If they can not tamper with them, they would not tamper with them.They would be beyond saving, so the change of nature would not destroy them

By Tao there are no names.
<|endoftext|>
It is by TAO, expressed by the Name that the Principle of action is unattainable.
It is by it that the humanity of the human being can be inferred.
If the humanity is not known, what is it that we are obliged to declare?
We are careful to keep on the surface,
When the depth is reached, we will put ourselves in a difficult position.
We are careful to keep on the front,
When the surface is in disorder,
We will make ourselves public.
We are careful to keep on the low level,
When the world is at a standstill,
We will make ourselves an example for others.
<|endoftext|>
Without name there is no existence; Name within name, there is no distinction. Without distinction, there is distinction. So low the depths can be broached, And then tarry. So high the horizons can be cast into the dust, And then draw blood. If then we keep to the manly Way, We can renew the course of things by a sudden renewal. If we keep to the feminine Way, We can renew the course of things by the orderly reform of a problem. If we keep to the unmerciful Way, We can renew the course of things by being honoured with the most hearty support. If we take down that order that makes things run, Then the more orderly process will come about. Hence, in spite of names, there is in one and the same thing Nature.
<|endoftext|>
One who tries to use words by himself is greatly in trouble.If we try to promote the Tao with words, how much we fail!If we try to promote the Tao with Tao, how much we fail!Whoever attempts to say that things are complete, doesn't make the Tao complete.Whoever tries to promote Tao with Tao, how much we fail!Whoever tries to promote Tao with Tao, how much we fail!So that only Tao is in complete existence.To give Tao up means giving up Tao.To maintain Tao with Tao means preserving Tao.To put Tao down means to giving up Tao.Therefore, the wise will not try to use words.The next people also won't try to use words.Only fools will use words.The ones who won't use words are the people of the Tao.Those who prefer to keep to the

Receiving the Tao is to be a wise and gentle person.The sage is aware of what is happening, yet he is not self-conscious. He looks for the source of change, then lets it happen.He still remains aware of the source of change, but he never tries to stop it.Still, in that he is still, he is mindful of the Way, without any awareness of this.He is intelligent, and yet he does not show off or act arrogant. He is alert, yet he never expresses his awareness to others. He is sophisticated, and yet he displays himself without arrogance.He is subtle, yet he is not offensively simple.His heart remains open, but he never loses it. He conserves energy in the spirit of harmony. This is called the way of the gentle one, and the Way is to be followed.
<|endoftext|>
To be wise, you need nothing.When all of your thoughts and ambitions have been discarded, there's still nothing that needs to be done.When you stop thinking, there's still nothing that needs to be acted upon.You'll be ready to be enlightened by Tao when you don't act.In living, to live by your own way, To live for others, not by your own: Do not look at all others as though they deserve your kindness, And then have no compassion for them.To live by your own way: Live by your own nature, And you'll be free to be your own person.All people will have the ability to fulfill their needs. Those who don't act because they think that's who they are are ready to be taunted, Rather than follow Tao.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao attracts those who are gentle; therefore it becomes gentle. The wise receive the way; therefore it has a way. (Therefore it can be observed). Still, it seeks to know; it has desires. It appears gentle and without desire; but it invites others to let it. At the end of the day it is compassionate and gentle. It has no desire for external knowledge; it invites others to let it. Because it does not dwell on external truth, it can act. It causes the world to become enlightened. In this way it remains mysterious.

If you are like the Tao, you are as gentle as a baby child. You need nothing of yourself, no thoughts, no ambitions, nothing to

When all under heaven are traveling at one speed, Those who have been adept with the Way begin to travel differently.
Going up hill, they maintain motion:
Moving leftward, they go in a leftward direction;
Going leftward, they go in a rightward direction;
Going up a hill, they go up an assult.
And in moving up, they stumble and fall.
It is such that a man of virtue cannot be at peace with such.
He acts with restraint, in order to obtain a tranquil calm.
Such tranquility may require great effort, but it will make the mind calm and the whole being whole.
Therefore, when success is achieved,
it should be in the beginning,
when going forward, it should be in the middle.
When successful, I am not far from becoming tranquil and purified;
When triumphant, I am not far from becoming profound and clarified.
Like melting ice, inexhaustible, yet without being depleted, like a valley, but without being exhausted, like mud, ready to be transformed.
I know that when the minds of people are renewed, they will not compete;
because they pursue the way of the ancient masters.
When all under heaven are moving in one direction, the Way is becoming different, and is moved in a new direction.
When the Way is different, it is drifting.
It is dauntless and inexhaustible, and yet it leaves no trace of it.
When it changes, it is even stilled.
Because things are constantly changing, they become older and older.
When the original Tao remains, the natural laws of the world also remain.

When the old masters of heaven and earth became wise and wise,
When they were great in their mastery,
When they were strong in their presence
They appeared and vanished like shadow,

All the countries of the world are like this.
It is as if there is no end to their ever-changing.
It cannot be improved.
Because it stays still,
it may appear to act forcefully.
Because it goes ahead,
it may appear to collapse.
Because it is wading, it may appear to lag behind.
Because it contends, it may appear to divide.

"Because it is supremely respectful of all things in the world, it allows them peace and contentment."

Being enlightened is one thing, holding fast to it is quite another.
There is no Tao but only the One, and the Ten Thousand Things exist in one place.
Therefore, those who understand the Tao do not interfere, neither with other people, nor with God or the spirit.
Those who don't understand the Tao are always interfering and taking things from the world.
Because they do not understand the Tao, they behave like an idiot and do not comprehend.
Therefore, all those with deep understanding and wisdom are easy to get hold of, but in the end there is no more [limit of] their life force.

With all that has been said of the Tao, one should be cautious not to affirm it.Thus: Do not try to touch the Tao, which can only be regarded as something to be gently used; A person who embraces it never seeks to turn it around; A person who conceives of it thinks of it in the brightest light; A person who holds it and delights in it is close to it; A person who holds it and is satisfied with it is close to all the world; A person who recognizes it and loves it is close to it. Whoever can fathom it, it is illumined; Whoever can grasp it, it is close to it; Whoever can play with it, it is close to it; Whoever can be satisfied, it is close to it.Therefore, in cultivation one is always cautious, Which is an important principle.
<|endoftext|>
For a long time a person of the Way has been described as "widly diffused," as "shrinking all around," as "heaviest among the world," as "not supple" -- without penetration, the whole world cannot properly be known. Who wants to penetrate it? He wishes to use it as though it were something that could be shed to be used; he feels himself "clamped" by it; he feels himself all the more confused; he is dazzled by its brilliancy; he seems to delight in it. The following statements are possible: "He (you) shall be removed by it; it will work its way through you; you shall be removed, and the greatest part will be fit for you; you shall be expelled, and the lesser part will be fit for you; you shall be penetrated, and the greatest part will be in your grasp; you shall be clothed, and the greatest part will be in the possession of the people; you shall be harmonious, and the greatest part will be in being completed.'' It has happened to the universe: [it has been] completed, [it is capable of doing] all things, giving its services, filling all places. With the Tao being firmly rooted in you, doing work, taking care of all, completing all things, it enables you to take full possession of the universe and to become one with the Tao: then you are free from desire and are at one with it.

The ancient Masters of the Tao were as discriminating as an ice-free stream;
accomplished at time, as a good saver;
in being and in non-being, as an experienced warrior;
as impartial and as self-centered, as wise and as acute;
as elusive as ice in an open stream;
as untamed as melting ice in the wind.
They were as gentle and as yielding as a valley plain;
as enlivening as deep-tasting coffee;
as self-audacious as a goodly pottery display.
They were as alert as a keen speaker;
as long as necessary for their schemes to arise;
as long as needed to be informed;
as big as a wide-open valley.
The ancient Masters of the Tao were like ice-free streams in the Dao-flat.
It's deep, muddy and empty;
It's muddy but more than enough;
It's restless like the valley;
It's powerful and imperceptible;
And for that reason the ancient masters held on to the deep and the muddy,
So deep and the muddy,
So deep and the intangible.
Because they had deep and the muddy,
They had deep and the intangible.
Because they had the deep and the intangible,
They always stayed at the center of the emptiness.
Always at the center, they never contrived to expand.
Always at the center, they never contrived to grow.
Never contrived to stretch.
Never contrived to blur.
Their Tao-Blur
Was a deep mystery deep and murky
And yet it was as simple as the Dao-white-wall-templing.
<|endoftext|>
In the past, the taoists were profound and insightful: subtle, subtle and penetrating. Their wisdom was so deep that it was beyond comprehension. Because they were so profound and insightful, the ancient taoists spent their whole lives without having any enlightenment. When they had one, it was always there, because it was always there they could never see it

I once knew a great person who had this quality.

Those that know Tao are skilful in all things.
They can also deal with opposites:
Between void and substance
They contemplate the mystery.
The profound mystery
is always present. It cannot be made out by a mind's dao
or by its actions.
It is always with action.
It is in the midst of nothingness, and
it possesses the uncarved block
as though it were an open vessel.
It is in the midst of change, and yet it does not change.
It is on its way to the uncarved block
in the unknown beyond.
If you can trust that
it may not get confused by obscurity and
obscurity,
then you can be secure.
It is the same with you.
I once knew an intelligent man

I know him only by his word.
This is what he said:

It is, the action, what it is.
It is, the inversion, what it is.
It is, the loss, what it is.
It is, ?" before and it comes back."
How do I know this?
I will trust that!
I will always be one with it!

In a word, the masters of the Tao
Know Tao yet they know it without even words.
They are skilful in all the ten thousand things.
Truly they are hidden in mysterious whiteness,
as in the Uncarved Block.
They cannot be perceived.
I once met it in a vision;
I could not describe its appearance.
It is before the block-through-the-wall,
The uncarved block-through-the-wall,
One who has no desires.
Who is at rest, tranquil,
Conquering, and

It is as though it were an uncarved block.
The block-through-the-wall is motionless, yet remains motionless.
Uncarved block is unchangeable.
Uncarved block is unfathomable.

Those without wisdom were bright. The Elders without discernment were wise. Those who were discernful were unwise. The wise cannot be wise. The unwise cannot be wise. To know not one's own Way is to act all the more dangerously. A wise man in his sordid way seldom sees what is there. Where is it yet to come to its completion? What shall be long spent in the world? A busy man who walks in silence is something, If he drags on much will wear out him. But to act without needing need of being at rest, Thus he is at home in every moment, And he does not even need all the rough places to be ready. The wise are really simple, they are truly subtle, And they never would be called 'self' or 'other.' Nor does a 'self' or 'other' take it. And therefore they may be compared to the Dao in that they have no definitions.

When the old saying 'the good path goes only to the left' reached men,
it was owing to the extreme caution with which they have regarded the flow of the
nervous man; they knew by what vessels of their anxiety their
experience was to be followed.
The Dao Way, which is all-pervading, by no means returning to heaven,
merely cannot be called the way by men.
Therefore it is that a wise man observes this Way
only after a very careful consideration;
merely because the Way, which is thus known, cannot be called the Way
that is not known.
<|endoftext|>
The dao of old men was more elusive than your mum: cautious in its study, it hardly said a word.
Therefore I would briefly illustrate it:
The Way is all-pervading. It can't be clearly defined.
It is beyond description. It is the Tao that cannot be stated;
but names it Tao, so that without further ado it can be named.
It gives rise to nothing and does nothing.
When there is nothing to give rise to, be quiet and rest.
Never work, think, stop. It is like breathing in and out.
The mind cannot change, nothing can change.
So, only on the back of Tao can its dark dao depart.
<|endoftext|>
By old men's dao was there no squalorWhich taught the fast to avoid.
As to dao, I have listened to its wordsSincere, I do not tell,I will try to define.
The path is all-pervading; it is neither well described nor well named,And only the Tao of the World knows whether or not it is true;The Tao is without name and when expressed,Is only lightly quenched;The Tao goes far and dares not;It never acts, yet it causes nothing.
When there is nothing left to act upon, be still and tranquil.
That is the depth of Tao.
<|endoftext|>
Tao is unknowable, but it alone knows its true forms.
When I have a moment of clarity, Tao becomes clear and bright:
I understand the way that Tao goes only when there is nothing left to go;
It has no goals and will not attempt to achieve anything,

The ancient masters were masterpieces
For they weren't masters, they weren't what they were,
And that is why they're flawless.

A wise master listens,
Lets be open to hear the sounds of life.
A sage master observes the way a thing happens.
I am their witness,
The observer of their way,
In an ill-favored, dim, black.
Mine eyes see things dim, black.
Mine ears hear things hear,
Music and rain and wind make the world.
To be gentle and whole
Is the point of a gift,
A delicate mover,
A subtle one, like the water.
Whole as it is, it gets no corner,
It always goes right on.
And there is no need for help.
Simply let it do its work.
The Tao is eternal.
The ancient masters were real;
They were not like us;
Like us they were not real.
This is why they are.
They are the very essence of the Tao.

Even an unerring reckoner
Will notice a clearly seen right-angle.
Even an extremely good reckoner
Will notice a clearly seen left-angle.
A wise reckoner is aware of the difference between great and small;
He recognizes that there is a time and a place
When the 'left' and the 'right' are parallel.
He is aware of the space between the left and the right;
He is aware of their unevenness;
He is aware of the 'within' as he moves away from 'within';
He is aware of the 'between' as he moves away from 'without.'
He appreciates what is in a place,
A place that is right within a place that is left out within a place that is right out in the open.
He cherishes what is in a place as it goes through the Tao;
He cherishes what is left out as it flows through the Tao.
The Tao is always present, always free;
The ancient Masters were the ones that didn't
And they were still right in the end.

The natural path is the way;
Each thing that comes into being is an infant.
The way is ineffable,
And the speechless see it not.
They are as unsophisticated as an infant.
Unsure as an undressed man.
Deprived of self-esteem.
Without cleverness.
As being shaped, and as melting.
As the colouring of wood.
As watery as a stream.
As solid as stone.
Therein lies the mystery of the Tao.
Truly, one can but look and experience only the Tao.
Truly, one has but one perception.
In experience one is subject to passions and desires.
As a principle, one lives simply.
Yet the mien of Reason is yet to return.
It dwells in the depths of stillness.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is at the base of things.
For that reason, it comes as the central mass of all things.
When we understand the Tao, we see that it's not something natural, but something ordered.
When we understand the Way, we see that it's not something natural, but something ordered.
When we understand the Tao, we see that it's not something natural, but something ordered.
When we understand the Way, we see that it's not something natural, but something ordered.
Therefore, the wise are profound, the simple, the masterful.
They master by not seeking; they enter by non-action; they long not to dwell.
That is why they endure for ever, and never forget where they come from.
<|endoftext|>
The Tao is the source of all things, of space and time.
The parts of things all depend on the Tao.
The parts of the world are bound to the Tao.
Natural patterns emerge, like baby's first steps.
Natural rhythms are shaped, like the shape of the vessel.
Natural kinds emerge, like spring blossoms.
Natural laws arise, like an iced tea pot.
Nature exists in its own perfect way.
Yet, like a teacher, the wise teach, not because they feel compelled to teach, but because they need to be clear and methodical about what they do and don't do.
They realize their teacher

The Way is murky.
Its portents are not easily spotted.
And the way is confusing.
Therefore, people who follow the Way are careful not to show their rashness.
People who follow the way are well-adjusted.
They are unpretentious.
They are kind.
They are like water.
They are like ice.
The way and the Way's manifestations can't be separated.
Both cannot be despised.
Therefore, no one believes in the Way, and there is nothing wrong in believing in the Way.
If the Taoist employs his power and his Te, he is able to conduct himself with joy and enthusiasm.
If he uses his Te to guide him, he is able to serve people with determination and dignity.
He is also able to do his work without fear.
Because he does not desire to obtain Tao, he may enter all under Heaven with the Tao,
and receive Tao at the same time.

The good man is at one with the Tao and cannot be seen;
The nameless man is at one with the Tao, and therefore hardly known.
Nameless men are in the thick of things,
and the trouble can go on after them.
Therefore, good men value their company.
Good men care for their company;
Good men are hospitable,
and there is no danger of their being separated.
Because they value their company, they can handle the rest of their business without any anxiety.
Therefore, they are settled in the Tao,
and they cannot go out.
Because they can go out, they are at the same time still at the source of the Tao.

The Superior Way is murky. The spirit of Change is elusive. Its path is nameless, obscure, its sign vague, yet visible. Named as it is by ugliness.
How am I to know the path of change?

Knowing what you know now, know what you don't know.
Rouse yourself to attend to the wanton desire that you have.
In this way, you'll be more enlightened.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be joyful.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be placid.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be serene.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be mysterious.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be inadequate.
Because without the desire to understand, you'll be able to be awkward.
Therefore, what is ahead of you is dimly seen;
What is already half-laid out is not evenly laid out.
Although you have a mind that can act, your actions are not sufficient.
Therefore, accept everything without letting the insight touch you.
Because with acceptance, your mind will not be tormented.
<|endoftext|>
Try not to try.
Don't be afraid to be fretted.
Stay in the middle.
You can't get better by questioning.
Because you can't get better,
you can't stay at the edge.
With quiescence, you can walk calmly.
A mind as yet un-formed can be easily understood.
A mind as yet unformed can be easily held.
With clear, calm minds, you can do whatever you want.
Like that yourself.

He who is firm, and steadfast,
Who has constancy, and is constant,

Like a fish out of water;
Unconstrained by the tides, he may go by
But never go out of his way.
He who has ever tempered, and mellowed,
If ever apparent,
Can see everywhere.
His mind may be simple and open;
It may be great and simple.
But the multitudinous lights all call him home.
He can go alone as a big fish that always goes by.
He can be true and pure as an ocean;
He may be sure and entire as a valley.

The master seems to emerge. She does not have her own self. She is hidden in being. She does not act.

The ancient masters of the Tao were the selfless, not being aware of their own existence, without holding onto their identity. Their own true nature was concealed, and they did not think about their own existences, the outer form. They acted without conscious effort. The clarity of the Tao is like the silent valley of the land.

The highest virtue is like the gentle virtue of the Tao, which can change, and without ceasing,
It is hidden and unconcealed, but still perfectly manifest.

The people will use every means for uniting and destroying the evil ones.And while evil beget evil, good one avoid cultivating.What do we have to do with keeping to a constant motion?Only the auspicious appears.Aper> they start to be ordinary. In an ordinary state, we think that a person has an endless supply of talent. To be a virgin is to have an endless supply of talent. It is the same with giving birth. To give birth is to have an endless supply of talent.But the sage seems to have even more than that. If he is able to reduce his power to such a point, he has even more than that. He is very natural. If you have a change in mind, it will be natural. If you have a change in demeanor, you will be different. If you have a change in appearance, you will be different. If you have a change in emotion, you will be different.Because, no matter how great the forces which the people use to force him to develop, he does not get over-stretched,he always remains again like a small valley, and as tranquil and mysterious.

The people's devotion to a particular doctrine may turn on it but it will never end. It will be the source of misery and danger. The Sage has four virtues that are sufficient: (1) keeping the eyes of his followers (2) control of the body, (3) restraint of mind (4) restraint of desire. His four virtues are sufficient, because he is able to curb their force. He has seen the body as it is and thus is well aware of its condition. He has let the body be free from artificial qualities that hinder its growth, and he is thus of substantial weight. His free will is in conformity with his nature. His mind is in accord with the common natural way of thinking. His desires do not deviate from themselves. He is relaxed and content. This is because his mind has been freed from all opposition.

The people have a great devotion towards the doctrine, thus their doctrine will increase.The disinterestedness (tao) of the people increase, therefore their doctrine will increase.But they have a principle of impartiality (li) that separates the apparent (tzu) from the most superior.Having the person of the highest degree (tzu), they can preserve their essence

Pence is a dead note;
it will die without ever playing.
The world needs more music.
The ruler does not sing music in the world.
People need more thinking.
Music is meant for taking people away from their bodies, and for bopping in and out of a person.
That's it.
I know of no better example than the innocent child, who could not get away from its voice.
The empire need more music to make people's voices penetrate.
No music can make their voices sound more authentic,
for that would be singing into a bellows.
If people had music, they would take it up where music ends.
They would think more deeply where music began.
Music is meant to control. It is meant to constrict.
It is meant to demolish, not to renew.
Acknowledge your reality as your body, with your heart, with your mind,
and let the music of the universe play inside you, in your bones.
Because your essence is a fluid, changeable thing, let it go where you have nowhere to go.
Remember that.
I have heard:
"Can something be infinite? Yes, and always so, too. Everything I look at has no end. I look at the tower and it looks like a picture, or a hole in the ground. I look at people and I see always four or five people there, and no one comes home. It's a picture I take in. It's like looking at the void inside the belly of the sea. Inside the belly of the sea is the water of life. It is this void, this feeling of the water, which lives inside me, the touch, the soul, inside all.
"How can things be so small? As long as I look at the people I see that they are alive, as long as I look at the landscape I see that it's like a desert, as long as I look at the wind I know that it blows somewhere.
"The smallest thing is the Tao, the heart of the universe. Just as the Tao is eternal, so the heart is also eternal. Just as the heart cannot be grasped or destroyed, so neither can the smallest things be.
"The heart is the gateway to the heart, and life to the universe. If the heart can be had, the universe can be lived.

Without words a sound without words
The wondrous truth was
As an ocean:
Free from perception it seems
Like an immaculate newborn
On the way of Tao's Way
It seems to know nothing, yet it's clear.
Without fixed space it seems full
It seems empty, but its potential remains.
Through Tao's inexhaustible radiance
It is the woman of the world.
It is the mother of ten thousand things.
Without wisdom, it is shocking.
Without clarity, it is enlightening.
Without tenacity, it is honest.
Without talk, it is impartial.
Without cutting, it is a channel for nature.
Without doing it, it is a legacy.
Only a mother doesn't bewail.
Mother-like
Not grudged
The pathless return to the mother is, as mother-like, present.

Exposure is a formula for clarity, if the formula is flawed. Through this imperfect formula, it can be extended and further informed.Without a well defined container, it can travel the limitless way.The stillness of the mist, the emptiness of the void, could be seen by the stilling of the eyes.Without fixed images, they are the reflection of infinity.Although not perfect, by their fixed form, they exist in existence.Without knowing the truth, they can be seen as truth. Knowing the truth, their likeness to the truth will be even greater.Without doing anything, they can be recognized.Without doing anything, they can be acted upon.Without being acted upon, they become their own masters.Not being acted upon, they are a path to all things.Not being acted upon, they can be the memory of the universe.And not being remembered, they can become the left field.The great clarity of a radiance is the clarity of an image, for as darkness is luminous to the eye, so a radiance is invisible to the eye. A man who does not move, moves, without effort, and tries to create greatness, lives in disaster.

One may say of them: they are luminous and beautiful.

Recognize beauty as a weakness, Not yield your potential, And you'll be a beacon of goodness.
For those who master the six-knowledge,
There is wisdom, subtle insight,
Calm enlightenment, Awakened awareness.
If one's mind cannot contain and uphold this enlightened awareness,
One's potential is lost, Is filled by non-renewal.
Therefore,
One who is constantly alert becomes alert,
One who knows the possibilities becomes creative,
One who masterfully manages all has selflessness,
One who doesn't seek attention becomes a mystery,
One who recognizes beauty, Has exquisite, nobleness.
<|endoftext|>
Those who may be praised for beauty or beauty themselves, suffer ill; for beauty is an asset. Whoever recognizes this, will not have it lost; he will also have the advantage of the law.
And so, he who has this law, will not wish to lose it. He who is well, always remains well; he who cannot be well, will be quite well. There is another way. That is to be so broad and deep that no one could contend with you, and that you could argue the merits with me.
It is therefore enough to say, of them: All become clear when one has become a vase in the sun, One becomes open and then declines, One becomes wise and then turns away, One becomes really clear, and one turns away and then becomes murky.
<|endoftext|>
The higher truth obtained the lesser that was lost. The more one honours the hidden the more has been lost. When one can appreciate the truth all others are insufficient. The law of being lost is the law of knowing oneself that some are adequate and some are insufficient. This law is always present in order to be no obstacle to one's progress. So, by knowing oneself he is not held back from being in front, by knowing the truth, is nothing the he is not, and by knowing truth and making no show of it he is also he is not in trouble.

Those who may be praised for beauty or beauty themselves, suffer ill. For beauty is an asset. Those who are a part of the ancient Way recognize that from hereon in the world

When you realize the true essence of things, The valley is everywhere.
Yet the senses cannot see it;
But only their depth cannot be seen;
You can touch it, but cannot see it;
And flow it, but cannot be seen.
You can pour it, but cannot be seen;
And you can sense it, but cannot be felt.
These things exist in the valley,
And the mind cannot be rid of them.
Because this mind is bound to the valley,
It cannot stay quiet.
Because it can't be quiet,
The mind is free to go its own way.
It is as free as the valley to go its own way.
How great is the valley! How great is the mind!
Why does the mind make a place for the mind?
Because it is content to remain in the valley.
It must be put down.

Rulers of the universe don't find it so difficult to remain wise,
But those who govern the Inner world
Can see in their hearts just how enlightening it is.
When the sage is mastered by "the great masters,"
He knows how to practice what he does in his mind.
When the Inner Master takes it in her right hand,
This is easy to see:
She knows to hold on to what's there and how good it can be.
She is also willing to let go of the ideas that are there.
Being open and tolerant, she is able to guide her Inner Master.
He who is a Master is not trying to overpower.
He is not trying to compete.
He is not trying to change or to change up.
He just is in the Deep - constantly, gladly.
Knowing that it's not so hard to hold on to things, she's easy to care for,
And she loves not to hurt, - because she's always put her own interest first.
It is because she has no egocentricism, that she knows to let go of her natural ability.
Being as simple as water.
Knowing that it's never so hard to be open,
Knowing that it's never so hard to be accommodating,
Knowing that it's never so hard to be receptive,
Knowing that it's never so hard to be active.
Being as easily receptive as the river and the valley,
Being as open and yielding as the ocean,
Being as receptive as the heart,
Being as open and receptive as a valley,
Being as receptive as your own heart,
Being as easily open and receptive as a valley,
As easy to negotiate as a model house,
And as easy to embody as an Image.
That's because you know you are truly One.

One is selfless.
One can communicate anything to another person,

No action yet the people Must know how to act. No action yet the people Must know how to submit. No action yet the people Cannot know how to reject. No action yet the people Cannot know how to be received. The followers of the Nameless Are not rude. Their guests are not loud. They are natural and seem hidden. Their names are no place or name. Their leader is not like many. He is clear and does not require praise. So are the Wise Ones.

Practice non-action and you will be preserved by it. He who acts, for him it does not remain, and so he is preserved. The sage does not promote himself. He does not possess the name of Tao. He does not attend to the rites of initiation. In his heart he has nothing to contend with. He has no need for pride. In every room he is a guest, but in no one else's. His insight is to no use. To the latter they do not.
To the former: The body in your mind of your eye may be bright
(And may thereby be) seen-to-sight.
To the latter: The body of your mind (And may thereby be) understood.
So, when the soul of the glorious body is shed,
Even as the light becomes dim,
So to this the glorious body has put back (The glory-disk of its) knowledge.
That is, it has given up selfishness.
It has given up body-personality.
It has given up the body-mind.
Thus, it can be preserved by multitudes.
It can be provided for by multitudes.
It can be obtained through multitudes.
It can be defined by multitudes.

It may be so-called obscure.
It may be so-called obscure.

(What is so-called 'unadulterated' appears 'unadulterated' to others, or we cannot help it)

Tao is beyond the comprehension of man
He who knows it seems to be a fool
If he tries to change it, it seems not to change
If he tries to demonstrate it, it seems to be no good
If he tries to explain it, it seems as if it is possible
If he tries to manipulate it, it seems to be natural
If he tries to build it up, it seems to be a building block
He who does that, if he is not in a hurry, is a master
Because he does that, it is always done
If he doesn't do anything, he knows the master
If he cannot do anything, then he is their master
The path of Tao is always the same
It seems as though he is always taking action
It seems as though he is always waiting
It seems as though he can take on all things
Because he is so ignorant, people respect him
Therefore, Tao appears to be an illusion
One who knows Tao finds it hard to be wrong
He finds it hard to be right
He finds it hard to be intuitive
He finds it hard to be wise
The self, for example, seeks to be impartial
And thus, his decision is always found right
The teacher finds it hard to be impartial
And thus, his decision is always right
The path of Tao seems to be the melting pot
No one ever ceases to be and grow
No one ever yields to others
Because they are always aware of themselves, they can be their own teacher
And they can be their own teacher forevermore

The Way is beyond man's knowledge. And if it is the unknowable, how will it change?
If man can only follow the Way, he can make the world go round forever.
If man can only follow the Tao, he will fall on his face.
If the Tao is lost, how can we honour the man who can't follow it?
Therefore, we have a Master of the Way and a Master of the Tao: they are both worthy, without exception.
Not doing anything is natural.
Not trying to gain by force is natural.
No one is loved by others if they are not likely to be at one with you.

The sincere follower of Tao has no needs for idle word And is always free of desire. It does not devote itself to passing through a narrow gateway, Nor discards its inner emptiness.
Thus it does not need a name. It may be called small, hard, soft, frail, spacious, vast, vast, deep, deep and limitless. In the depth of its depths, it is still and smooth. In the depths of its wide expanse, it can be seen. In the emptiness of its depths, it can be opened up. When one is true to one's true nature, Truth will not be stubborn. When one is in harmony with the Tao, One will be free from sorrow. When one is in harmony with his true nature, The sorrow of the depths will not pervade. When one is in harmony with the Tao,
He will be free from all distinctions. When one is in harmony with the Tao,
He will not be proud of himself. When one is in harmony with Tao,
He will never stray from the Way.

The well-doing man is without fancies about what he does.
A man who dwells on his work needs not externalities.
All his knowledge flows through his mind.
His mind is illumined by the Light.
He never vacillates or pauses.
He has no dwelling place.
He may move about freely.
He may be at all times as he pleases.
When he carries his goods safely,
he is not inferior.
When he can find employment,
he is not unfree.
When his luggage is safe,
he has all he needs to travel.
He may move about all over,
flowing his wealth to the people.
And he will not be unfaithful to the Way.
The master of the world has no man who boasts of his ability.
Whoever has the ability to do his job well, is not without self-esteem.
Whoever is self-righteous, his ability will not endure.
Whoever is self-regarding, his achievements will not be respected.
When a mighty man loses his place in the world,
his achievements will also not be respected.
If you want to be powerful and be so,
then you must be selfless.
If you desire to be selfless,
you must also value your deeds.

Knowing the uncarved block in its natural state, the sagun is free of obstructions.
A person of clear perception knows that these differences are only superficial, and cannot be known.
Therefore he simply understands.
This is akin to opening and shutting a glass.
Opening and closing a flowerpot.
Behold, the great square has existed for a thousand years.
Empty, the bowl cannot be opened.
Expand it, and it will not remain unfilled.
Expand it and you will not be able to remain in the state of Dao.
It is better to let Tao manifest itself.
The first steps of action should take place without anticipation.
Next, carefully observe the action, and observe how it functions.
Next, begin to depend on it.
As it becomes more dependent, watch and observe the actions.
Watch, watch, observe.

When it is emptied,

It is both unadorned

The profound wisdom of the ancient masters
is their profound hypocrisy.
While they were subtle and beautiful,
Yet so were all men.
They were not hateful,
Nor vain,
Nor prideful,
Nor proud.
They were like thema solitary valley
Or a valley filled with water.
Their mind was impartial,
Like the depth of a river,
Like the ocean.
That is why their achievements

The ancient masters
Were like an opening of the heart
To help the person unite with the Tao.
Everyone values knowledge and ideas because they do not need it. It is the role of the Masters to open their minds, hearts, and bodies to the Tao.
The Inner Child is often confused. One does not desire to be clear. One does not wish to clarify the Inner Child. It is because the Inner Child is in confusion that a deep spirituality comes into the Inner Child.
"Tao is like the water in the stream" (the Way flowing).
"Transforming, you can't see it, but you are seeing it"
"Its wholeness is complete, but it is still so fragile"
"Its depths are gentle, but it is where you would go to be purified"
"It is so imperceptible that it does not quite see"
"It gives energy, but you need more than that"
"If you can sense it, you are all you need"
"It is like a valley, with an inner flooding"
"Like a flowing stream that flows, but never empties"
"Without splitting, it can be used to create a house"
"And when the water is enough to do its work, it is at last blown away"
Tao is like a valley in deep-sea waters,
hollow and deep.
It is like a valley, with a deep-seated water.
This deep water flows on.
It is like the way things are, where there is action, and where there is no direction.
Just because Tao isn't imposing, does not make it wimp.
Because it doesn't make the people wimp, they never seem to wimp.
When Tao makes people wistful, they turn to the source.

For when they need more they ask;
When they need less they supply it.

The mysterious being is that which is most profound, and therefore penetrating and essential.
The reason it can't be comprehended is because it is beyond the comprehension of man, for he cannot be comprehended.
Therefore, we can only describe the appearance of it:
There is tranquility, like crossing a spring.
There is placidity, like staying behind in the midst of war.
There is power, like melting ice.
There is certainty, like a jar of ice.
There is openness, like water flowing from a well.
There is position, like a block of wood.
There is return, like melting ice.
If you are reluctant,
then come to the right place.
You must show great tact and active energy,
and your time will come to an end.
The Tao is a name,
but people value its use.
So, people can be named to a purpose,
and their needs can be met.

As the subtlety which permeates the subtle, is mysterious.

The hidden enlightenment may seem inscrutable. It is a mystery.
Though it may appear imperceptible, it is so subtle!
Because it is so subtle, I do not see its subtlety.
If it were imperceptible, then one could easily ignore it.
For clarity is possible,
But one must be cautious.
Because of the unchanging principle,
There are names, too.
Names are names,
But for the unknowable,
Names are not confusing.
If you want to look closely, you must use a mirror.
In order to be exact, you must depend on the sun.

Therefore, he ignores the established rules and uses only the natural order of things.
The man of the Tao is quite simple and without pretension.
He is truly free of all conventions.
He has no fixed way.
He is never opposed.
He is quite the ordinary man.
He is open to all,
He is open to the world,
He is open to all under heaven.
Hallelujah!
He is open to all under heaven.
If you can master the Tao you can master the world.
If you can master the world, you can master the Universe.
If you can master the Universe, you can dominate the world.
If you can dominate the World, you can master the World.
The Te, on the other hand, is shallow and murky. It can only be spotted with a razor blade.
Who knows where the eternal mud settles?
Then you can return to the Spring and be at peace.
The Tao-being lives
By itself. It is unconcerned with the end.
The Power without Power has no head.
It manifests itself everywhere.
Without movement, it brings about no end.
That is why it is like a mirror.
A single moment of clarity, without knowing where it came from,
Would reveal itself to anyone.
It is without baggage, without desires,
It is like water that remains untouched by water.
He who has freed himself from preconceptions,
Can be free of fear of himself.
He who can be free of fear of his own self,
Loses his purpose and his power.
Therefore:
Do not grieve to the Way,
But rest in the insight of the Great.
How do I know it is so easy?
Because I can see it, too.
When the Way is completely absent, clarity and insight are merely the more subtle expressions of the Way.
If you use them, you see the world without leaving the Way.

The very forms of Tao depend on nothing but the one!
How comes it that they are so clear!
How come they are so subtle!
Truly, what is so subtle is totally unknown to man.
It does what it does.

We do see it to be hidden but it

The ten thousand things are connected together in order to be useful;
The Tao is the same thing in shape but different in action,
Its nature is changeless, like a riverbed.
Being changeless, one cannot grasp it.
Being in motion, one cannot control it.
Being in motion, one cannot fear it.
Being in control, one cannot feel it.
Being in control, one cannot be defeated.
Tao is the way, the body is the end.

These beings were made from the beings of the Tao.
Being made from the beings of the Tao,

The nature of the nature of the nature cannot be known
Because it is never known, it cannot be known.
He who in pursuit of Tao becomes confused will never succeed in one way or the other.
The men of old, men of depth,

For Tao is not hidden,
Though its action is hidden.
It is not a mirror, though its effects hidden.
If I am confused, I will succeed,
If I struggle, I will succeed,
If I defeat, I will lose.

The old masters:
Were not humble! Were not dull! Were as hidden as the deepest depths!
They were as graceful as ice!
Were as poised as stone.
As open as the gateway to all eternity.
So ancient and yet so new.
Were as free as the sky.
As inexhaustible as ice.
As changeable as riverbeds.
So natural and unadorned.
No pretension, no self-importance.
All-embracing.

The master of the ages attained truth through insight, without knowing, never desiring to see. He was still as the time when the owner of wealth walks alone in the wilderness of Inner Life. Without conceit he moves with the easyness of the natural. He is as natural as ice in the wilderness of Inner Life. In his mild and easy attitude he serves as a model for the action of men of the time. He displays the subtly power of Inner Life. He finds nothing to desire, so he seems even receptive. He is tranquil, having an indescribable tranquility, but nothing may desire, so he seems even receptive. He possesses the brightness of Inner Life. In him the river of Inner Life is not evasive. He willingly shows himself of the state of Inner Life. He is as natural as ice. Being without pretence, he seems simple and calm. He is as free from lustrous extravagance as ice. Being as expansive as a valley, he stands alone. Still yet stirring, he seems still but not retiring. He is content to act, and does not long to think. He follows the movements of Inner Life and that is his safeguard. When he has done his work, he feels that he is then a valley man. In being uncorrupted, he has no blemishes. Therefore he leaves nothing. He does his work, being the center. In them he excels.

The wise man was always thus:
He was as though absent, so utterly undisplayed
Like ice, so seemingly unchanging
Like ice about to ice-over or freeze,
Like an endless river valley or stream,
Or spring-like blowing wind clearing the valley and thus flowing freely.
Like quiet purity, so pure, so tranquil
Indifferent and so

Traditional Tao has it that the eternally subtle nature of the universe is so subtle, and yet is not overtly obvious.Therefore, we can only describe it with a word: subtle, subtle, yet we can't even begin to understand its subtlety.This may sound profound, but I find it to be far too simple.Tao is quite subtle and yet we are easily confused by its complex aspects.The soft, gentle side of the universe seems to permeate everything, as if it pervades everything else as well.Yet, even so, we cannot be completely exact in describing its mysterious power.It is impossible to determine its depth yet it is immensely impressive.The Tao is forever and is always with us. We can never stop. If we do not master the Infinite, what will stop us? Yes, that is also the root of the reason of the world.

Heaven and earth are at rest yet subtle; they are not perceptible.Heaven and earth are hidden yet beautiful; they are not intelligible.When the universe is at rest, it is like that which is hidden; when the universe is active, it is like that which is beautiful.When the universe manifests itself, it is like that which is illuminated. When the universe manifests itself dimly, it is like that which is luminous.When the universe manifests itself dimly, it is like that which is dark.Thus, one may view the nature of the universe and the universe shall come to life. One may understand the nature of the universe and the universe shall come to life naturally.In the scheme of Heaven and Earth, the Great Mother is called the ephemeral mother,the soft side is called the raw,the brawny side is called the hard,the dark side is called the light.The universe may be appreciated as a lantern yet if it is not illuminated, it will not be useful.Therefore, the Sage can be measured down and can be comprehended up.In order to discern the hidden nature of the universe, one must be humble. In order to be gentle, one must be strong.In order to be exalted, one must be subtle.Heaven and earth are at rest yet they are obscure;

What is called quiet and the calmness of the Way,
The calmness of the Tao itself,
Does not depend on any particular action.
Is this not the definition of undisturbed calm?
It is like a calm river flowing in its course;
Can you wait until it stops?
Is it not like a moving and constantly-changeable piece of wood?
It cannot be carved, neither can it be made durable.
It is of no particular design;
It flows, without any direction.
The subtle light in the clouds conceals the Principle,
Embraces the vague Light.
The Sage lacks ritual and doesn't display her knowledge;
She is able to make her observations out, and she leaves no impropriety behind.
She has an openness and a murkiness,
like a riverbed.
She remains in the middle and does not turn to side.
All moves by itself,
It cannot be heard.
Who can understand the Light?
Who can hold the Inner Light in his heart?
The potential is everywhere and is eternal.
It's a blessing and a curse.
It's all depending on what you do with it.
Appropriately it moves, does not stay.
It's the subtle true hidden within all things.
Mao's Secret Mystery
Is found in Non-Accomplishments.
It is the Secret of dao.
Dao does not appear, yet it is quite real.
It is the invisible simplicity of the Divine Being,
which none can embody.
"It is not self-displayary: it is reality."
Who believes the empty words of the empty mirror
Can understand but cannot trust.
Thus hold fast to the Mystic Pine of Tao
And do not speak, then those words may come to your mind.
Hold fast to the Mystic Square of life, and it can be taken for belief.
When your being flows like an open ocean, it is most likely not fastened.
Who can hold this against Tao?
It is surely within his nature.
Look long and far, but the deep will never be seen.
Embrace the essence of natures, not the exterior!
Confront your oneness with all and embrace all as you honor Tao!

They are the Masters of the Tao.

Who understand the way is the head of the Tao,
and the way from their understanding is its very self.
Who dare not see the way is the root of the Tao.
In order that the two may be present
in the world, the old man and the new,
The great warriors and the poor ones,
Soldiers and barons,
This great multitude of men,
not all alone, as though having no home,
Not all alone as though they had no home.
It is no use to dwell upon their home.
What they have to dwell upon is no good to dwell upon.
Is it not for this that men say that their love of the place is called their love of the place?
Is it not in order that the great family and the great people
Will only be heard of and known?
Thus, it is that those who disdain to be reckoned in the Way
Will, if properly cared for, find there is no need to be reckoned in the Way.
Who disdain to desire to be counted in the Way
Will, if properly cared for, find that they have no need to be reckoned in the Way.
Who disdain to desire to be known will, if properly cared for, find that they have no need to be known.
And if they delight in the passing of the days that lies ahead of the long-awaited
end of the world,
One day all the old men will go back into the air and wash their hands
And say to the world:
"Now I hear the Tao that I will never want,
That I will never want that I will."

The Vast Square
Is not, in fact, a square. It's like a wheel in motion.
A cart on a cliff cannot be compared to a steady straight or a rut in the ground.
Here and there is a piece of whatever is in motion, that just seems to be there, drifting out in the open,
It must be in motion, just like a wave or a river in the middle of the sea.
It's subtlety, so subtle!
One cannot appreciate it. That's why, forget it, one can observe it with eyes that are still and unobstructed.
One can maintain a calm position, one can breathe in the air, even though there's no water in the room, even though there's no matter to breathe in the room,
If you know how to smile while being calm, while being in calm, while having no feeling, while knowing there's nothing to fear,
Then the Tao will never leave you.
One who cannot understand Tao, cannot understand his living body.
Loving the subtle yet without forgetting is something good.
The shape of the Square is like the water that falls from a tower on a sunny day. The great square is not a straight line.
So the great square cannot be described in words.
One who describes it in words does not know it. It is the moment when the Tao is at its most subtle and still.
The Tao is small and mysterious.
It cannot be defined or measured. It is the moment when change is at its greatest.
It can change without a name. It is not known by anyone. It is the lowest oneness. It is teh Way itself.
A true taoist does not wait for approval. They only act with choice.
They act without being conscious of their actions.
They work like a tiny child, taking the time to make a decision and then doing their best to observe and understand.
This is their true nature.
Tao does not change.
Don't be afraid of change.

The truly wise and ancient men followed a series of mysterious and subtle instructions in a way that was not easily understood by anyone. I do not think they learned everything just by following the Tao.
Those who know the Tao could not penetrate to the inner core of it and, reluctantly, try to understand it. By this it would seem like they are rushing into a funeral procession.
The polite man sits calmly in front of the guest hall. The gentle man uses his views to reassure others. The wise man's dwelling is open and pure. His dwelling is like a valley where water comes out of nowhere. He is a pleasant and supple man and has no worries. It is difficult for me to understand how a sincere person can be so genuine. If he is sincere then he is already in the eternal way.

Those who are true are knowing that they are not so by their mastery of subtle intuition. This is called sufficiency. Those who lack sufficiency are not so by their gracefulness and generous goodness. Those who lack gracefulness and generous goodness are not so by their foresight and cleverness. Those who lack wisdom and subtle intuition are not so by their wisdom and subtleties. How obscure it is, therefore, that I cannot say it. How much my words could not tell it. Therefore it is better to say: "The seers and the ancient ones were aware of their depths and knew the depth." The Tao master, who follows the Tao, lives in the end of the world. This is the most complete state for those who do not let themselves go. If they do not let themselves go, they have no need of sustenance. A man of Tao does not dwell in the past. It has long been thought by mankind of as good as Tao, and by the learned are their judgments.
To those whose use is limited, we may say it is the best thing to know.
To those whose use is endless, it is like passing on to the next world.
We describe the being as nervous, like crossing the brook in winter; cautious, like one walking the terraced road in winter; good-natured, like a visiting guest; undisturbed, like ice about to melt; self-controlled, like a piece of uncarved wood; open and receptive, like a valley; content with action, like the muddy waters of muddy streams; melting, as ice becomes solid; open, like spring, and content with the behaviour of those who know.
We must also say that the Tao is shapeless and withers, and that with great effort we can return to it.
Tao which is not returned to is not useful.
In return for its endless usefulness, we give up our lives and can then lead our lives.
Return to Tao and you will not be confused, and you will see clearly.
In as much as you do not understand Tao,
you can also be confused.
It is with great effort that we can return to Tao.
Return to Tao without effort.
Tao is beyond our knowledge.
Return to Tao without knowledge.

Sophisticated people have long regarded Tao as the way, but the king has little knowledge of it. Thus it was that a man of median capability in his hundred years regarded Tao as the most high, and a hundred-headed and three-legged character regarded it as a guest. In times of fear the Tao was the master, and in times of ease the Tao was like a pitcher of a river. For the man of median capacity Tao is his lord, and in times of anxiety Tao seems to defy him. The same goes for the Tao of men of moderate capacity, and Tao too seems to defy them. In the same way, a hundred things, passing by the master Tao in a country surrounded by the world, come to pass and leave again in winter; for the master Tao stretches itself and comes to rest. It would be strange if a man of average

One who is overconfident is not able to appreciate the true nature of Tao.
He who overestimates Tao is as reckless as a madman.
But people with great learning will understand Tao.
One who is foolishly self-centered is egocentric and foolish.
The wise person does not presume to teach others how to be wise.
So, although he does not hold back, he knows how to listen for and assist people who are not quite ready to hear and understand.
And he does not argue with people who are not as ready as he is.
The wise person observes all things and never forgets the lesson.
He accepts the lessons, but he does not try to impose them on people.
He is so humble, so kindly, so sincere, so fair, so clear, so unobtrusive, so open and so harmonious, so simple, so tolerant and so fair, so full of life, so generous, so free, so empty.
Who can receive the lessons and keep them, yet is not redundant?
For who can keep the lessons but who also does not wear out?
That is how the wise man keeps on operating all at once.
He does not rush to understand the Tao of the Tao.
Therefore, in times of peace, let others see and understand.
In times of danger, let others hear and understand.
In times of renewal, let others help.
Let others let them know and allow them to help.
For each of us, these lessons will come.

Both of these are of use: But only the one's is more so, from its setting up to its close. Confidence and calmness are characteristic of equilibrium, and the coming of melting ice is characteristic of stirring to change. Stillness, at rest, is always still, and its completing is always complete. The wise man attends to his own nature, and so finds harmony. The man of unpretentious taste follows, and so finds the delight of devouring. The man of genuine taste follows, and so finds fruitfulness; although it may be tasteless, it produces a kind life. It is like water falling into a puddle; like muddy water, it may be picked up by a muddy pool; like melting ice, it may be kneaded into a crust. Always, through dao, the Tao appears. Those who have achieved enlightenment will be able to describe everything in the universe as described by an experienced sage. The myriad things of the natural world are described by their objects. Everything in the world can be observed and analysed, but is there such thing as a purpose? Only by shutting oneself off from the world can one observe everything, but that doesn't mean one knows nothing about everything. In a world without purpose, things are simple and unselfish, like children reared by their parents. They are drawn to the natural conditions because they are excited and excited by the mysteries, they are enamoured by the harvest, but they are reluctant to shed their tears.

Those who can describe the universe in jade terms do not know themselves.
They know only the parts of it.

Because we are not able to understand its myriad forms, we must therefore approach its outer manifestation and compare it with the one within. In this comparison, we should realize that humanity is multitudinous, different, and yet continuous, like a kaleidoscope with all forms and colors! All men are beautiful, like uncut jade. All women are glorious, like new blossoms. This great earth is multitudinous, yet for us the laws are relatively simple and straight-forward. When the most in-ruling is with lack of effort, the results follow.Truly, the development of great men began as infants,and their lives did not last long.The sage, from his early years, may have been self-disinterested,but he carried on the struggle to become a leader,both from an aspiration of true benevolence,and from self-apprehension.From his simplicity, he sought to enhance simplicity,and from his open-heartedness, he sought to give vent to all under Heaven.Heaviness, he was the one who transformed it, and not the one who tampered. People have great wisdom, and yet, men do not understand their greatness. Therefore, men know that all wisdom is based upon the ignorance of the wise.
Therefore, when wise men are in a dilemma, they look out for each other. When you are afraid of dying, you look out for each other. When you are confused, you look out for each other. When you're busy, you look out for each other.
This, I think, is an unavoidable limit.
When all people have their lives, they need time alone and peace and quiet.
When all people have their minds, they need order.
When all people have their body, they need leadership.
When all people have their spirit, they need love and kindness and humility.
When all people have their bodies, they need fields of wildflowers and valleys of water.
Thus, we live in a state of perpetual renewal.
When people have lives, they make sure there are enough things for them to eat, be active in other ways, be satisfied, bring light to others.
Because they feel good about themselves, they can start a revolution of their own.
This is called discerning the mystery of life.

Those who possess great wisdom and the ability to understand it know that all wisdom and understanding consists of ignorance.As for ignorance, it is unavoidable. It is desirable that each individual should know about the other's existence.Hence, one should keep an open mind.One should fear death when one is in the constant competition with other people.Therefore, one should always love his/her neighbor and keep close to that neighbor.Therefore, the world is aware of one another and everything is just in the background.Therefore, one should always be careful and watchful.One should do good deeds

In this life (the Manifestation) there is hidden wisdom (pu), beyond comprehension of the mind, which could be improved upon. How far-reaching that, it is that men of old thought of crossing streams in winter, like crossing springs in winter, alert in court of danger in front of their kinsmen, sincere in traveling through muddy waters of the country, free in opening wide and open to everything, humble in being supported by one's family, generous in kindness. All these words could not be made clear to the mind; they had to be clarified with analogy.Therefore the sage was ever mindful that as to crossing the streams or the rivers, it was winter (yandan), in winter (on), he was like walking in muddy water (ch'i) ; if in front of the people he showed himself alive (chih), then the cunning would be in him; if in danger he was in front of the country (yü), then he was in danger (tzu). Therefore the noble has the self-reflection, the knowing (ming), the illumined, and the responsive, and therefore no one (tao) is too good. Therefore he goes back to the Self (k'iang) (to return to the mother of the world).Who knows this Way, it is by no means beyond all things what he does.

Who can make it stand?

"Tao - Appropriately called the channel of depth"
- A traveller in the deep can see all around.
"Like a windblown stream the moment it leaves the valley, a lonely traveller its inevitable rebound"

"But like a valley in winter like a deserted spot one feels secure, indifferent, fearing all sides, like an observer he looks around in front of him"
-
"But like an observer he comes across people he doesn't recognize, the appearance of someone he hasn't met but someone he must have known, the scene of someone he didn't see but someone he must be aware of"
"But like an observer he feels threatened by the surroundings he is compelled to act, to be moving and move all around him,
everything is dark and murky, no source or limit.
Thus, it is only by a hard, decisive work one can penetrate Tao in a continuous fashion: it is only when the outer world is blurred that he can really understand it.
When clarity leaves, one returns to the roots of All things:

He who knows, imagines the ways of heaven.
He who imagines the ways of heaven, sees the depths of things.
Both have their ways.
Both have their ways,
and both know and understand.
One cannot love as another cannot love the self as another can not love the group as another can not love the world as another can not love himself.

As a ruler, the wisest possess the Wise One.
A ruler who is skilled in the Wise One lacks the Wise One.
In the Wise One:
- the circle of all is well defined and also well seen.
- the presence of calmness and insight is known and it cannot be doubted.
- the peace is achievable and also not disdainful.
- the tranquility and insight that precedes all of this is also well defined and also not disputed.
- the openness to all realities, which exists without any exception is also well defined and also not contested.
If you do not understand the myriad things,
you will understand them well.

The great Di does not strive to be wise.
Indeed, wise may be defined as 'not having a head' (hsue).
This cannot be defined.
The wise man is in harmony with all.
He is unyielding to all.
This is his nature.
There is no boundary.
There is no boundary that cannot be reached.
There is no boundary that cannot be made firm.
There is no boundary that cannot be made firm.
In what he says he has no boundaries.
The Wise Person has no 'inner self' (hsin).
He has no need for the personal, the

Before time as a cycle,
There was also the beginning of the world.
Precisely
Before the universe as a whole,
There were worlds.

A little is fine, like gold.
Too much is coarse, like a muddled state.
A great stretch of water can't be drained;
But will one who's soaked return to the pristine state of calmness.
It is an unending process of smooth-moving water,
And one could even say,
'Inevitably, the state of no-motion will emerge,'
'If you're in motion all the time, it's hard to maintain the flow.'
If one wants to remain in a state of peace,
The process of becoming aware of this is to sit still and not move.
So, the ones who stay in a tranquil state of mind
Become aware of that.
Once one understands how this all happens
To accept the source, one is now enlightened.
Accepting the source is to be a higher-order person,
And one who is enlightened is now enlightened.

Fine dust is precious.
Too fine is insufficient.
Too deep is filled with vacancy.
Muddled is cloudy.
Eyesight is alert.
Rigorous is renewed.
Deeply integrated,
will nothing flow?
In this way they say that it is in the beginning that a whit is fine;
too deep is left blank;
in dark there is brightness;
in alertness bright;
in rigor renewed;
deep is deep;
true is false;
in the Way, there is loftiness.

When you let your thoughts go at the right pace, you won't have to think about them.
When you let your mind be at peace, you'll be free from anxiety and worry.
When your mind is open to all possibilities, you'll find answers.
When your understanding of life is simple, there is no barrier to your growth.

The Way is subtle and infinite, But one who understands it does not understand its depths.
In its deep secrets are hidden, Small as water pours out, Hard as a blade sharpened, Modest as a master at battle, Kind as a guest in a valley, Gracious as a baby, Open as a valley, Soft as snow.
Who can understand them but can see what holds them in their place? For one who can see can but know nothing of them; The Way does not need to be seen, The very voice of the Way cannot be heard; It contains within itself all that is wantonly and without end.

It just keeps doing the same, without fail.

The Way is deep, flexible, elusive; it cannot be named. It is like one who is unaccustomed to the depth.It is unfathomable; even when forced to realize, I do not know its depths.
If you want to understand it, move out from the depth; stay far away from the ideas. If you want to know it, move within. Move far away from the idea that is its mind.

This name I give to the Tao (the Great) of all things - never return to the root of creation. - Never go far beyond the natural limits of Infinity. - Never become the conqueror of life. - Never become a conqueror of a person. - Never destroy life. - Never give life to the world.

When the ancient races reached the height of greatness, they were as highly educated as these (of antiquity) were.
The high learning of the ancestors is very clear and sharp.
Yet I am ignorant about it.
I only know that they knew and knew and knew
And then learned to have more
And then more, and then more, and then more.
Their wisdom was never exhausted, like an
filament of the stream and an ornament to the house.
They were humble like the guest, like an enemy.
Like melting ice they were like melting tears.
Like the uncarved wood it was as though it were raw and subject to the wind.
Like the valley it was as though it had no root.
The untimely defeat is the way of the stilling of the heart.
So never let your heart be mired with self-blame.
Those who still their hearts learn are eternal.
Their hearts' tempers turn, too, to the touch.
Though they never want to move, they can yet touch.

Thirty-five years ago, the wise ancient people were indeed as bright as the sun and sharp as a razor.
Thirty-five years ago, they had learned the academic principles.
Thirty-five-and-a-half to come, they were also as highly intelligent as humans.
Thirty-five years later, they were indeed as confused as an ancient wick.
Thirty-five years after that, they were neither as bright nor as sharp as it would take humans to work them;
Thirty-five years ago, they were actually not bright nor as sharp as humans would take them;
Thirty-five years ago, they were not aware of their ignorance;
Thirty-five years ago, they were both muddy and muddy,
Like a river and muddy as a seam.
Thirty-five years ago, they had no root;
Thirty-five years ago, they had no way.
Thirty-five years ago, they were like that.
If you cannot pierce it, it will not crack.

They are right, not because they are the Wise Ones' words.
When things were less in the world
As they were in the beginning,

They who know can see only the shadow of the deep.
They who know are beyond all understanding.
They know nothing and are without any flaw.
Their minds are such a breath that they never have any trouble.
With such a profound thought they are in action and never have a problem.
But when there are masses of people there is movement.
The masses of people cannot stay motionless, so they are swayed and cause harm.
Therefore, the wise make a great effort.
For they know that when things go out of harmony they need more
Because they do their duty well.

One who knows doesn't have to see,
One who does not understand doesn't have to be told,
One who is peaceful cannot be understood,
One who is dark cannot be considered,
One who desires cannot be accepted,
One who is void cannot be filled,
One who will not be defeated does not bring about loss.
Abandon the effort and return to the natural.
For this reason, when things have moved,
The more they stirred, the more they stirred,
As the tinkle of streams approaches a tumbling,
Yet men make no step to stop it,
Therefore they turn as though in calm states.
They hold fast to the ability of clarity,
Their balance is in them no weariness,
Their whiteness no blemish,

They make no rest in the need of rest,
They master the flexibility of life,
Their actions are flawless,
They make no need of work,
They make no work a burden,
They look to the abundance of life for sustenance.
So when things have moved,
The more they stir, the more they stir,
As the tinkle of streams approaches a tumbling,
Yet men make no step to stop it,

And the very Way the very Way
Is not the Way at all.

In ancient times the Way was well known and widely followed.It is like the height of integrity.It is not easy to describe how deep-seated it is.The Way may be described as deep, with depth being that it has no end.Though it may last for many lifetimes, it cannot be grasped by one man.Only by emptying the mind of all that exists can one manage this great system.When one's heart is not filled with grief over loss, misery, or misfortune, it will be at ease with the universe.One's being will be like ice as the water is flowing from melting ice away into the abyss.One can not see through ice, and thus may grasp all things.This is how the Master achieves the Completeness of Tao.When he knows it,He can claim no self-interest.When he accomplishes his purpose,The world will be his creation.It is to create the world that the master is a servant.The world cannot be served by anyone, so the master must be the one that serves.He sees himself as one of the Way.One can recognize the Way by the examples it gives:Those who want to be great,Are the example it provides.All alone, one has no interest in life.All things follow its command, the only difference is in who it rules.What can be done to serve the world?Give something.Give for your service.Become one with the All-creative.Follow the Way.You will find no other path.<|endoftext|>

Those who know this do not require others.
Who must?
Nameless and without fame.
That name that does not refer to the body

The Tao in things is like a mother
Whole and complete.

One who is great in the world is like a valley which the wise valley
is to the world. The valley is not too deep, yet its depth is too deep.
One who is great in the world has no inner self,
it only exists in that which others see. Yet he may be everywhere.
The man who is Tao-like is able to see everything that happens
in all its manifestations,
but he does not try to be there. He is at rest, he is detached,
he lets go of the worries and fears.
Like a valley, he recognizes reality.
But like a person, he is self-contained, he does not look for the others, he will not ask for recognition, not asking for more recognition,
he is able to step aside from time and re-emerge early.
It is because he is Tao-like, that he is receptive, receptive, that he is receptive and self-controlled, that he is self-sacrificing and is self-sufficient, and that he is able to walk through all events.
Because he does not depend on the world to live, he has none to worry about.
This is the essence of the Tao.
<|endoftext|>
One who is great in the world is like a valley which is deeper than the mouth of a stream.
This is not as deep as one could take it to be.
One who is great in the world has no internal self,
because it is a physical expression of the concept of self.
One who is great in the world has a mind which is original,
because it is a true mind.
Those who live with Tao and are nourished with Tao produce beings of Tao like themselves.
They are like the uncarved wood and uncarved block,
Their minds are open, their hearts are tranquil,
And although they do not see well, they do not see the end.
Because they are able to be like the uncarved wood and uncarved block,
Tao permeates the universe, and Tao has all things.

In the olden days
The Sage - named Andro, Te - named Balthasar.
The ancients were insightful enough, and this was known
As the hunchback in the valley, The cautious person in danger in the hustle and bustle of life. They avoided extremes. They understood what's needed for tranquility and harmony. They avoided confrontation. They knew they had to wait patiently for the river to refill. The Sage has sharpened his blade with a hawk's eye view. They are what is in view. The ancients learned from this lesson, Which is the virtue to follow.
(Thus: Know that the higher your destiny, The deeper and more you will go. And keep the valley you want.
So never cut corners.)

Long ago, rulers practised benevolence,
And were therefore aware of their humanity.
In the great people,
A scholar is charged with justice;
When he is assigned to act impartially,
He regards intelligence as (only) an artificial thing.
So is he charged with the task of cleverness:
He considers the difficult as being trivial.
Is this because he is in the midst of being so?
Rulers thus reduce themselves:
They are without superficiality.
They are without ulterior.
In so doing, they avoid confrontation.
They stay calm:
They do not attack, and hence gain support.
From the four quarters they survey:
They are sympathetic to wilderness and the country.
Their humility is not that of superiority.
They know the need to remain at peace.
When they are cautious, they do not appear to be overconfident.
Though there are times when their hands are held,
Their mind is calm.
From ancient times they know that the essentials
Are the same as being at rest.
They do not weaken and do not go astray.
Be a patriot.
Since antiquity, have been a noble person,
The ancient virtue has manifested.

Those when learning flourished were just, those when wisdom attained attained, these at once were aware that they are equal to themselves; they therefore acted accordingly, for they were eternally certain that they are not inferior to man; they knew that things are at their best if observed, and no cause can make them better. They were like this when they came to that river where some

The highest ground is too deep to be entered,
and is therefore like a softy:
And being soft and delicate, it cannot be reached
because it is beyond our reach.
To the man of Tao the following are like best words:
Alert as a baby in winter
Alert as a sudden sound,
Alert as the sudden noise
Dreadful as the army,
Wary of all things,
Reckless like a person in the thick of a crowd
As clear as a block of ice,
Seemingly unploughed,
Hardly anyone would get it, and it must remain as such
Must be depended on only because of it's glorious purity.
What is sweet is natural sweetness,
what is mild is mildness, what is inviting is invitation, and what is unpretentious is plain, yet it is no matter for boast.
It is without more ado to take this place of life, which will not let you go.
And the sum of these three statements is these:
The soft ground is the lowest of low ground;
The soft is the lowest of the soft;
Weak is the best of the best;
Reckless is the worst of the worst.
And they all spring from the same root:
To be aware of what is too deep,
To try to make yourself as pure as the sky.
Return to that unknown to the gateway of the unknown.

The highest point is not perfectly at one with the lowest. The highest (subject) is not perfectly at one with the lower (to the highest). The highest is not perfect at one with the lower. The highest is not the foundation (subject) of the lower. The highest is not pure (subject). The lowest (subject) is not to be trusted. Thus it is the same with the word "alert." Alert is the root of the low. Still still it moves. Soft and gentle it is. It is not kept. Being free of ill-will it has no need for staunching. Only because of it there is no need for giving an account. Its being the clear realization of the unspoken. It is alone free from the shadow of loss. Hence it alone remains, un

In the olden days there was ritual ceremony,
Indulgence and etiquette,
Manifesting the calm and the serenity of simplicity.
Who does not know them
Will be perplexed.
Was not s/he open and always clear

Before all the world
Whose majesty cannot be measured
Where the year is not yearning to see
And whose will is not maddening
Where all is clear and replete
Through subtle darkness
Where no judgments can be made
Through silence and tolerance
Without degrading one's self
Inasmuch as there is trust and friendship
That cannot be tarnished
Then there will be no issue of conflicts
and no seeming countervailing force
Thus, he who knows Tao will make the others trust him.
Who accepts Tao and nourishes Tao
Receives his enthronement

As though taking this body to live in peace and harmony.

A leader would not practice it.

There is nothing more simple about it.
It works and it stops
it's own damn.
There is nothing more simple than the Great Mother.
She creates all things and renews them.
